Bono is a tax dodging wanker who was in the Panama Papers. If he was capable of sucking his own dick, he would be too busy doing that to make more shitty music that all sounds the same. I still went ahead and listened to this album hoping it would change my mind, but it's just as boring as every other U2 song I've heard. I'm sure the other U2 albums on the list will sound just like this
Incredibly tedious to get through. Lyrics seemed (to me, at least) surface level and cringy. Not to mention, overall boring as SHIT I already can’t stand U2, so I tried to keep an open mind, but this album encapsulates all the things that irritate me about this band (mostly Bono tbh). They try too hard to sound deep, but it doesn’t seem like they actually know what that entails.

One full hour of listening to Bono wail... I didn't like this and I'm subtracting an additional spite point point for putting their album on every iPod in like 2008
Gosh I really dislike U2. Especially Bono, whose voice and lyrics and whole energy just repel me. The band is tight but forgettable. The suffer from what I call the Nashville Effect (after the awful Altman film) where something is either widely beloved (U2) or universally praised (Nashville) but is actually mid at best and it makes you like it even less because the praise makes it extra insufferable. I was optimistic about this one, after mostly suffering through the obscenely overpraised Joshua Tree - hey, Berlin, fresh start, nasty. Everything good here is done wayyyy better elsewhere, including in Bowie's Berlin Trilogy, which I've never even heard, I'm just that confident in Bowie's weird greatness against this recycled trash. Without Joshua Tree's couple iconic hits, it doesn't even merit two stars.

I am a big fan of U2 back when you could still hear their punk influences. This album is like lukewarm coffee. Tepid, boring, and lacking anything to hold my interest.

I've always liked their early work, but it seemed to fall off around Joshua Tree. This opens up sounding a little bit like The Cars. Was not expecting that. But by the halfway point, that is honestly the most positive thing I have to say about it, and the back half sure doesn't redeem it. Most of this a complete bore. Basically sounding like audio drivel, tailor-made to be commodified. Not shocking at all it would only be a short time before they were shilling for major corporations.
The Edge is a great guitarist to bad he is in U2. Worse than I remember.

I've never understood the hype for U2, so I hoped maybe listening to this all the way through would be educational at least. It's actually kind of impressive that they managed to make music this bland and soulless. There are albums on this list I actively hated more, sure, but I've rarely felt boredom so intense as in waiting for this one to finally be over.
It's so safe and generic. War is a better album by a large margin. I got so bored with this one..

I'm not a regular U2 listener unless they play on the radio or a random song of theirs makes its way to my shuffle playlist. I had this playing in the background while I was doing stuff, I didn't even realise spotify played a different artist after this album finished.
Truly one of the most sauceless albums in existence. Aggressively, confrontationally boring.

Apple Music says that this is “ U2’s most transformative album—the one that would re-jigger the band’s sound, re-energise its members and win over even the band’s fiercest critics” If this is the case then the others must be complete trash as this album was just trash.
First though was, I think Eno is trying to make a "Bowie" sounding album, but it falls completely flat with U2. This was a slog to get through, this album is just boring from start to finish. When I read the wiki it said it was a darker sound, I disagree, this album is definitely more poppy than any of their previous albums, but, if you want to listen to a "darker" U2 sound, listen to the War album.

Do not get the popularity of U2 at all. Guess they have a broad appeal, no bold choices, but as this album went on I got more and more frustrated. Do something interesting! Sure I heard bono say he spiked someone's drink in until the end of the world too.
As expected, found this a hard listen. So dreary, mopey, lame.
I like the odd U2 song, but not a single one of those was on this album. This was a really awful album. I think my feelings are best summed up by the face on the album cover.

Echt, ik probeer er echt zonder vooroordeel in te gaan. Maar al bij de eerste noten komt mijn afkeer van U2 omhoog. Wat een drama van een eerste nummer. Het is goed dat One enigszins optijd komt, want dat is natuurlijk een goed nummer, maar de rest... Bluh. Ik weet ook niet wat het U2 is, tenminste, een ding weet ik wel: die 'wall of sound' is dramatisch. Alles op maximale reverb waardoor niks echt naar boven komt, ik vind het helemaal niks. Ik dacht nog dat One deze naar 2 sterren kon tillen, maar nee, 1 ster voor mij.
My preconceived notions about U2 either influenced my disdain for this album, or validated. I don't know which and really don't feel the desire to discern which.
This album was incredibly boring to me and the kind-of wannabe emotive vocals of Bono are annoying to a point it completely ruined the album. U2 can be great, especially in their early 80s phase, but... What was that?
Interesting story behind this album, but the music fell flaaaat for me. I've never taken to U2, so I'm coming in with a bias. But like, the author told a story about the band's struggles and how they wrote 'One' and it's the song that saved the band. That's the song that saved the band?! U2 is assuredly not for me, even when trying to objectively put them in to context and ignore all the baggage surrounding Bono and Edge. I guess the best I can say is I can see why people would be in to this. But it's not for me.
I do not like U2 at all aside from a couple hit songs. This album has none of them. Just boring from beginning to end. You can feel Bono's insufferable-ness oozing through every note. I especially loathe Myserious Ways. It is not "all right" at all, sir. Overrated band that I can see people liking, but I 2ill never understand how they got so massive. Sadly I doubt this is my last encounter with them on this list. "Yay"

I’ve listened to a U2 song aeons ago and quite frankly couldn’t tell you what it was. That’s how abysmal that song was for me and also how I feel about this album. Unmemorable.
This does not appeal to me. It felt pretentious while listening to it. Most of the songs aren't anything special; they were all bland. They're all about a person or someone else, but it still felt like they were trying to preach something at me. This was not an enjoyable experience.

Zoo Station - what in the parted buttocks is wrong with the production of this? It sounds like a concert bootleg from someone with a tape recorder in the khazis. Muffled, echoey, generally unpleasant to listen to. The next track - one I vaguely remember from the 1990s - is by a sheer fluke of coincidence called "one", and it is shit. Bono's voice is grating, incapable of holding a note and generally reminiscent of a third rate pub singer. Now we move on to "to the end of the world" and I don't want to think that the bass is hitting some resonant frequency where it's overpowering, but the guitar's soaring pomposity makes me think they've spent too much time listening to Ride, and the overpowering bass is actually deliberate. I can't finish it because it hurts my ears. The first forty seconds of "who's going to ride your wild horses" is enough to convince me that this album is going in the bin. Byeeee!
