Ironic title, as this doesn't feel very "On the Beach". It's a good listen, quite bluesy/twangy, melancholy and occasionally a bit of fire.

I can see hear where Jimmy Page got alot of acoustic playing from. this was a nice listen.

Really cool album, Zappa can get a bit weird and experimental, but this one was a bit more "traditional" in a sense of rock albums of the day.

Great album. Probably the last real classic that U2 has in their catalog. The rest of their 90s stuff was a bit too far outside of what made them famous. And their album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' was more a return to form, than a classic(though its a fine albumon its own merit)

A good debut album. This was more in line with a lot of punk rock of the era(fast, simple songs, pure energy, reckless abandon).They would go on to really differentiate themselves with their latter work, what became their classic stuff, but this is still an enjoyable listen of "The Only Band that Matters".

The album that spawned a whole genre(or two) after it released. Proto punk Rock, this is a cool record, they didn't give a damn about technical prowess or pop appeal. They just played it from the hip, fast, loose, sloppy.

Highly influential blues album. Clapton was already a made man from his time in the yardbirds, but this cemented all that. And its the album that probably kicked off the 59 Les Paul craze as every known guitar player of the era american or british went out on the hunt for a Les Paul burst.

Pac was my first musical idol, it just connected with me at a young age...Time hasn't really diminshed that, but now being older than Pac was when he made this album by almost 10 years, You realize he was a brilliant, but flawed young man who through many poor choices and being hot headed and emotional ended up losing his life far younger than he should have. All that to say, this is probably his best album in its totality and definitely up to that point in his career. Went #1 while he was in jail and all. Even though its been 30+ years since this came out, and there have been much more technically skilled rappers(hell, even back then there were more technically skilled rappers) this is still an important and essential hip hop album to any true aficionado.

Bowie's soul/R&B era. Really cool album, songs like Young Americans and Fame are such bangers.

This is another of those essential heavy metal records. No collection is complete without this album in it. The band was zonked outta their minds on cocaine, but the record delivers. Supernaut, Snowblind, Changes are some of the finest songs Sabbath ever wrote.

Incredible album. Crazy they were that deep into their careers and could make something that can rival their bests in Ok Computer and Kid A.

I only Know Pet Shop Boys because of their song West End Girls. There was some good songs on here, but overall it didn't grab me.

Certified classic. The Story telling on this is so vivd.

Weird album in terms of Radiohead's discography. Kinda like Kraut Rock meets Radiohead.

I'm just not a fan of Sonic Youth. Alt Rock royalty or not, It just don't move me.

Even though people have soured on the Pistols of late, calling them a boy band as well as in part due to Sid Vicious being a junkie murderer and John Lydon being a moron racist, this is still one of the best punk rock records of all time. so it deserves it props.

Great album, One of the best live albums ever recorded!

I just don't get noise music. It's so bland to me, lacking in this things that make music, music for me. Which is Melody and Harmony.

I don't see what makes this album so highly regarded. I can definitely admit that it is well made, written and produced. But it just seems like the rest of the polished, mass produced pop music of the 2010s.

Was pleseantly surprised with this. I can get jiggy with this one.

Grandpa Neil !!!!! Really good record, has some long jams and memorable guitar lines.

I enjoyed this. I liked the orchestration used throughout and its got quite the star studded list of musicians.

Overall, I didn't find this very interesting nor reason to revisit. Singer does have a nice voice though.

Cool album. I liked the bass lines and production on this.

Duran Duran will always have a sense of nostalgia for me for a couple reasons. 1. My mom had their Decade compilation album that introduced me to the band and 2. Hungry Like a Wolf will forever be tied to the movie Big Fat Liar, where Paul Giamatti character is strutting about his house going for a swim and a shower where unbeknownst to him he has dyed himself blue and his hair orange. Fantastic album though, crisp production, fantastic playing(John Taylor had exquisite bass playing), singing. Save a Prayer is my favorite song on the album, though there are no weak links, top to bottom a great listen.

It's a hard voice to get used to, but this had good instrumentation and the lyrics were good.

I like the occasional Manson song here and there, but I'm not what you would call a fan. This record felt kinda top heavy, kinda dragged in the latter half to me.

I'll give it credit where its due. It's a lot better than I was expecting. I liked the musical arrangement and instrumentation. With that said, I'm not sure if this is worthy of being on the 1001 album you must listen to before dying list...especially for an album released in 2021.

another annoying electronica album. didn't even finish all the way through. The genre just bores me to tears.

definitely dated now since hip hop has changed a lot since then(hell even 6 years after this released, it had changed leaps and bounds), but its still a really cool record, very transitional with the combinations of singing and rapping.

It's a good record. I just think I prefer Angel Dust over this one.

I'm a bit conflicted on this album. It kinda starts off kinda dull, with the shoegaze-y style vocals, then transitions to a more clear vocal mix with some good songs. And then it kinda ends a little boring.....

Good songs on this. What Courtney lacked in singing ability, she more than made up for it with the conviction and attitude she sang with. Not that being a great singer ever mattered much, so long as the songs are good.

oh yeah!!! great album. It has a unique energy to it, Johnny was bantering a lot(probably his addictions had something to do with it), but the crowd was much more raucous than at Folsom also.

Limp Bizkit's music carries with it a preconceived notion and bias since they've been a sorta punching bag for heavy metal fans. Musically this was good, Wes Borland in particular is an interesting player. Lyrically its mainly whiny, juvenile and corny, coupled with Fred Durst' whiny voice, its definitely a chore. most likely won't revisit.

similar to their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, I just don't find this band very interesting.

MTV era ZZ Top is still a lot of fun. Much less raw than their earlier records, but they still got that boogie going on.

Some absolute bangers on this album. Bad, The Way you Make me feel, Man in the Mirror, Smooth Criminal etc. I wonder how this was received back in the day, especially 5 years after Thriller. Thriller is obviously the better album, but this is still the King of Pop at the height of his powers, so it must have been a treat for people who waited for its release.

Very interesting concept, to make a an entire album mostly comprised of vocal sounds. I commend the artistry, while at the same time, admitting that I didn't really enjoy this. I like some Bjork albums, but this one was probably too out there.

Not available on spotify currently. So I listened to their debut, and it was cool. Some Q-Tip Production and feature on 2 songs. A bit dated in sound for sure, kinda low budget and lofi even when compared to landmark hip hop albums that came out around the time.

Decent Prince album, I like some of his other stuff better. It started strong but does get a bit long in the tooth with some songs maybe being longer than they should have been. I can appreciate that Prince was pushing boundaries and all with some of his subject matter, but D.S.M.R was not my thing at all. Couple with the fact that it was 8 minues long, when it should have been half that, and Automatic follows it and that was 9 MINUTES!!.

Really cool, funky album. I actually liked this one a lot more than the last Sly & the Family Stone album I listened to last.

Pleasantly surprised with this one. I was expecting another boring electronic album, but this was nice, all the sampling going on and beat switches made this enjoyable and less repetitive than a lot of electronic music sounds to my ears.

Tom Waits is a fascinating artist. I've heard some of the early Tom records, and its a devastatingly good combination of dive bar, beat poet jazz/blues with that raspy voice of his that only gets more raspy as the years of smoking pile up on his voice.

This was a solid listen. I'm not really too into psychedelic rock, although I do appreciate the jangly guitars.

This was cool. Billy Bragg & Wilco made a cool country album, this one will probably get some more listens from me.

Not my favorite Aerosmith album and definitely not as influential as their 70s material, but still a good rock album. This was most probably their commercial peak as well, with the music videos, the Desmond Childs of the world contributing to songwriting, it is no surprise it sold over 7 million records. I like Love in an Elevator(its dumb and catchy, sue me!) and Janie's Got a Gun is banger.

Lots of Tom Waits representation on this 1001 list. I think this is the 3rd album of his on this list. While its excellent, I'm sure there is still atleast 1 or 2 more on this list since they are even more acclaimed.

I was familiar with Right Here, Right Now and The Rockafeller Skank since I've heard them in movies/tv over the years. It's a fun album, though I did start to tire of it toward the end. I have the same issue with instrumental beat/electronic music where the looping of hooks and music starts to get a bit repetitive.

Not really my thing. This falls in the category of electronic/dance music I just don't enjoy very much.

Awesome, funky album. I Zimbra, Mind, Life during Wartime are standout tracks to me.

I didn't enjoy this as much as Dummy, but that's not to say it's bad. Far from it, there's plenty of good stuff on here. The first 4 songs(Silence, Hunter, Nylon Smile, The Rip) were cool, as was machine gun and small.

Another excellent Neil Young album. Honestly he had one of the best decades of music an artist could have.

Metallica pushing themselves to the absolute limit, stretching the boundaries of their playing. Great album, warts and all(the burying of Jason Newstead's bass tracks) and the length of songs which by the bands own admission was maybe too long in some parts. But you got classics on here like Blackened, One, Harvester of Sorrow, the beautiful instrumental To Live is to Die

I quite liked this. Yes just makes great albums, especially the early ones.

Probably Anthrax's best album. Though I do prefer Spreading the Disease over this one, it doesn't detract from the quality of this one.

This was a strange album, very raw, unfocused. Not surprising given this was Syd Barrett post Floyd and when he was in the throes of mental illness. Not really my taste if I'm honest, though I appreciate that its a time capsule of sorts into the mind of a man who wasn't well.

Very cool. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Decent rock album. I might give this a few more spins to see if I like it enough to add it to my library. The song Sweet Joy sounded familiar to, even though I didn't know the name of the song until I listened to it on this.

This album was one of the background albums to my childhood without me really knowing or caring about it. As I grew older, I came to appreciate just how good a live album it is and what an excellent singer and guitar player Frampton is.

This was pretty cool. Krautrock is definitely interesting music, and I enjoy it from time to time.

Super cool album. E,W & F have so many classic songs, so I enjoyed this one.

This is a good album. What else is there to say, I like Emmylou's voice and the songs are good.

Good record, Had a few moments here and there that perked my ear a bit. Idk if I will revisit this or not, because it doesn't really fill my taste for the kind of alt rock I enjoy.
