Popular Reviews

Chris by Christine and the Queens

eh, not really my thing, just standard pop music. Good voice and well produced though..

On The Beach by Neil Young
Aug 30 2022

Ironic title, as this doesn't feel very "On the Beach". It's a good listen, quite bluesy/twangy, melancholy and occasionally a bit of fire.

Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch
Sep 01 2022

I can see hear where Jimmy Page got alot of acoustic playing from. this was a nice listen.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Sep 07 2022

certified classic rock n roll album

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Sep 19 2022

Really cool album, Zappa can get a bit weird and experimental, but this one was a bit more "traditional" in a sense of rock albums of the day.

At Budokan by Cheap Trick
Oct 08 2022

Classic! One of the greatest live albums of all time.

Achtung Baby by U2
Oct 12 2022

Great album. Probably the last real classic that U2 has in their catalog. The rest of their 90s stuff was a bit too far outside of what made them famous. And their album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' was more a return to form, than a classic(though its a fine albumon its own merit)

The Clash by The Clash
Oct 18 2022

A good debut album. This was more in line with a lot of punk rock of the era(fast, simple songs, pure energy, reckless abandon). They would go on to really differentiate themselves with their latter work, what became their classic stuff, but this is still an enjoyable listen of "The Only Band that Matters".

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
Oct 19 2022

The album that spawned a whole genre(or two) after it released. Proto punk Rock, this is a cool record, they didn't give a damn about technical prowess or pop appeal. They just played it from the hip, fast, loose, sloppy.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Oct 29 2022

Highly influential blues album. Clapton was already a made man from his time in the yardbirds, but this cemented all that. And its the album that probably kicked off the 59 Les Paul craze as every known guitar player of the era american or british went out on the hunt for a Les Paul burst.

Queen II by Queen
Nov 06 2022

early Queen kicks ass

Nov 18 2022

Pac was my first musical idol, it just connected with me at a young age...Time hasn't really diminshed that, but now being older than Pac was when he made this album by almost 10 years, You realize he was a brilliant, but flawed young man who through many poor choices and being hot headed and emotional ended up losing his life far younger than he should have. All that to say, this is probably his best album in its totality and definitely up to that point in his career. Went #1 while he was in jail and all. Even though its been 30+ years since this came out, and there have been much more technically skilled rappers(hell, even back then there were more technically skilled rappers) this is still an important and essential hip hop album to any true aficionado.

Woodface by Crowded House
Nov 22 2022

..... >

Young Americans by David Bowie
Nov 26 2022

Bowie's soul/R&B era. Really cool album, songs like Young Americans and Fame are such bangers.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Nov 28 2022

This is another of those essential heavy metal records. No collection is complete without this album in it. The band was zonked outta their minds on cocaine, but the record delivers. Supernaut, Snowblind, Changes are some of the finest songs Sabbath ever wrote.

Apr 23 2023

It's not my thing.

May 02 2023

Not too into garage rock/ blues revival records, but this is one of the seminal records of the era.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
May 08 2023

I prefer the Violator record over this one, but it was far from being bad, still a good record overall.

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
May 15 2023

Not my cup of tea. I've never heard or seen this album referenced by anyone as an influence of some sort so it's surprising its even on this list.

Jun 11 2023

Has some cool tunes on it, would listen to it again

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Jun 21 2023

Good album, not sure it needed to be on this list, even the band themselves dont look back on it all too highly. Kid A, Ok Computer and In Rainbows would have sufficed.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Jul 01 2023

It has an interesting vibe, but wasn't really my taste. I may have to revisit it some other time to see if my opinion changes.

Mar 15 2024

\\m// Game changing album from a game changing guitar player

With The Beatles by Beatles
Mar 16 2024

Aside from the mix being kinda terrible, It's the Beatles, so its good. They hadn't hit their creative peaks yet but as pop songs go, these are fine songs.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Mar 18 2024

Some cool riffs here and there, but its not really my thing.

Apr 01 2024

frenetic hardcore punk

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Apr 02 2024

eh, not really my thing, just standard pop music. Good voice and well produced though..

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Apr 03 2024

The Man in Black! Really good live album, I like the little banter in between songs. Johnny was in top form on this one.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Apr 04 2024

Incredible album. Crazy they were that deep into their careers and could make something that can rival their bests in Ok Computer and Kid A.

Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys
Apr 09 2024

I only Know Pet Shop Boys because of their song West End Girls. There was some good songs on here, but overall it didn't grab me.

Grace by Jeff Buckley

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
May 10 2024

Certified classic. The Story telling on this is so vivd.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
May 17 2024

Weird album in terms of Radiohead's discography. Kinda like Kraut Rock meets Radiohead.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
May 19 2024

Not my thing really.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
May 21 2024

I'm just not a fan of Sonic Youth. Alt Rock royalty or not, It just don't move me.

Even though people have soured on the Pistols of late, calling them a boy band as well as in part due to Sid Vicious being a junkie murderer and John Lydon being a moron racist, this is still one of the best punk rock records of all time. so it deserves it props.

American Idiot by Green Day
May 25 2024

Green Day! Really good album, Aged very well.

May 28 2024

It was alright. I'm just not a fan of psychedelic music, so I probably won't revisit this.

Who's Next by The Who
May 29 2024

To me this is probably the best The Who album. just all killer, no filler.

Electric by The Cult
May 30 2024

\\m// One of the best 80s hard rock records. banger after banger.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Jun 02 2024

Good songs, good energy on this one.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Jun 03 2024

Interesting album, Fiona has a really good voice. May have to revisit again and see If I like it more.

Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré
Jun 04 2024

Not really my thing, though there were a couple good jams. Overall it not being an album sung in I language I can understand, I probably won't be revisiting this one.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Jun 05 2024

Hmm, It didn't really capture my interest. It's highly rated but I don't see the appeal...for me at least.

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jun 09 2024

ELP!!! classic prog

Hotel California by Eagles
Jun 11 2024

Welcome to the Hotel California! Just a classic. what else needs to be said.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Jun 12 2024

Great album, One of the best live albums ever recorded!

Jun 15 2024

I just don't get noise music. It's so bland to me, lacking in this things that make music, music for me. Which is Melody and Harmony.

1989 by Taylor Swift
Jun 18 2024

I don't see what makes this album so highly regarded. I can definitely admit that it is well made, written and produced. But it just seems like the rest of the polished, mass produced pop music of the 2010s.

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Jun 20 2024

Was pleseantly surprised with this. I can get jiggy with this one.

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Jun 22 2024

Had some cool songs here and there, but overall didn't capture my attention and I don't think I'll revisit

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Jun 26 2024

cool album.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jun 28 2024

Grandpa Neil !!!!! Really good record, has some long jams and memorable guitar lines.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jul 02 2024

I enjoyed this. I liked the orchestration used throughout and its got quite the star studded list of musicians.

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jul 03 2024

Overall, I didn't find this very interesting nor reason to revisit. Singer does have a nice voice though.

Rio by Duran Duran
Jul 08 2024

Duran Duran will always have a sense of nostalgia for me for a couple reasons. 1. My mom had their Decade compilation album that introduced me to the band and 2. Hungry Like a Wolf will forever be tied to the movie Big Fat Liar, where Paul Giamatti character is strutting about his house going for a swim and a shower where unbeknownst to him he has dyed himself blue and his hair orange. Fantastic album though, crisp production, fantastic playing(John Taylor had exquisite bass playing), singing. Save a Prayer is my favorite song on the album, though there are no weak links, top to bottom a great listen.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jul 10 2024

It's a hard voice to get used to, but this had good instrumentation and the lyrics were good.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Jul 11 2024

\m/ I've spun this one many times. nasty Rock n Roll record. \m/

In Our Heads by Hot Chip
Jul 12 2024

I liked a few songs on here. Maybe I'll listen to this again to see if I like it more or less.

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Jul 13 2024

I'm not a fan of the washed out, super trebly, fuzz heavy sound.

Jul 18 2024

I've never understood the appeal if I'm honest. It's not for me.

Jul 23 2024

Always heard good things about this album. I enjoyed it, was real solid.

Rust In Peace by Megadeth
Jul 29 2024

\m/ One of the best Thrash Metal albums ever made \m/

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Jul 31 2024

Dark, brooding, depressing. Masterpiece of an album!

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Aug 05 2024

Classic movie soundtrack.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
Aug 07 2024

Really good singer songwriter stuff.

Skylarking by XTC
Aug 08 2024

Had a few songs I thought were cool, but overall I didn't find this particularly interesting

Moving Pictures by Rush
Aug 12 2024

Must listen if you're into Prog. Even though by this point Rush wasn't writing the long epics, this is still must listen.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Aug 13 2024

My favorite Smiths album. There's not a bad song on this record.

Aug 14 2024

Good record. I'm not a fan of a lot of Lennon's opinions but he was undeniably one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Aug 15 2024

Near 4 decades into his career and Bowie was still making an album this good. Really good stuff.

Kala by M.I.A.
Aug 17 2024

I did not enjoy this at all. Even back when this released, I never understood the appeal nor the praise it garnered.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Aug 22 2024

It was an inoffensive listen. Might revisit to see if it grows on me.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen by The Good, The Bad & The Queen
Aug 23 2024

This was alright. I kinda had high expectations since I like Damon Albarn's other projects, like the Gorillaz and this has Paul Simonon on bass too. Overall it didn't perk my ear up, found it dull.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Aug 24 2024

Real good record, probably the Black Keys best.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
Aug 28 2024

I like the occasional Manson song here and there, but I'm not what you would call a fan. This record felt kinda top heavy, kinda dragged in the latter half to me.

Younger Than Yesterday by The Byrds
Aug 29 2024

I liked this. great vocal harmonies, singing and jangly guitars.

Sep 03 2024

I'll give it credit where its due. It's a lot better than I was expecting. I liked the musical arrangement and instrumentation. With that said, I'm not sure if this is worthy of being on the 1001 album you must listen to before dying list...especially for an album released in 2021.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Sep 04 2024

another annoying electronica album. didn't even finish all the way through. The genre just bores me to tears.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Sep 05 2024

definitely dated now since hip hop has changed a lot since then(hell even 6 years after this released, it had changed leaps and bounds), but its still a really cool record, very transitional with the combinations of singing and rapping.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Sep 06 2024

It's a good record. I just think I prefer Angel Dust over this one.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Sep 08 2024

The best selling album of all time. Timeless.

Fear and Whiskey by Mekons
Sep 09 2024

not for me. bored me so bad I didn't finish.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Sep 17 2024

Very interesting album. I don't think I connected with it just yet so I'll give it a few listens more. I definitely like the songs on disc 2 more than disc 1.

Legalize It by Peter Tosh
Sep 19 2024

Really good album. Peter was great songwriter/guitar player.

All Directions by The Temptations
Sep 22 2024

Unsurprisingly, great singing and melodies. It's the Temptations after all!

Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
Sep 29 2024

jangly guitars, great singing, what's not to like? good album.

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Oct 02 2024

It's definitely dated in terms of sound, rhymes and the like, but its a fun record. Hip Hop moved far away from this sound in very little time, but it remains influential, as it should.

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Oct 03 2024

Just dull....I really didn't care for this at all.

Whatever by Aimee Mann
Oct 12 2024

Really excellent songwriting, good songs top to bottom.

Oct 15 2024

Back when Em's music was fun. Lots of dark comedy with a heap of Don't give a fuck attitude.

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club
Oct 17 2024

Great songs on here. The 80s were something else man, so much good stuff.

California by American Music Club
Oct 18 2024

Not on streaming, spotify atleast, so it required finding it elsewhere. I liked a few songs, the music is good, but I don't know if i'll revisit this one.

Synchronicity by The Police
Oct 22 2024

Listened to this one many times. It's not my favorite Police record, but its quality, has some massive hits on it.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Oct 23 2024

She was a great talent. Had a beautiful voice, and this album is top to bottom excellent.

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Oct 25 2024

Good music and songs here. Paul Weller is an excellent songwriter.

Cut by The Slits
Oct 31 2024

Nah. Not my thing really.

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Nov 01 2024

Interesting album. I'd imagine this one was awesome at block parties in the 80s, because thats the kinda sound it evokes.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Nov 03 2024

Sinatra! What a legendary voice. This was smooth and melancholy.

Nov 05 2024

bit of an unusual album. Very melancholic for the most part until the last song. Not sure I'll revisit.

Nov 06 2024

I'm a bit conflicted on this album. It kinda starts off kinda dull, with the shoegaze-y style vocals, then transitions to a more clear vocal mix with some good songs. And then it kinda ends a little boring.....

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
Nov 08 2024

Good stuff! Proper Post Punk music.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Nov 09 2024

Absolute classic and must listen if you're a rock fan.

I Against I by Bad Brains
Nov 10 2024

Interesting sound. Sparkly guitar sound, not as raw as their debut album, but still good songs

Sunshine Superman by Donovan
Nov 12 2024

Not really my thing. Had a few songs I didn't dislike, but overall nothing really grabbed my interest.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Nov 16 2024

Great melodies. Some of the best singing recorded on wax.

Mask by Bauhaus
Nov 21 2024

I didn't really like this one for some reason. Which I found odd because I liked the Bela Lugosi record..

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Nov 26 2024

Good album, very enjoyable.

Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan
Nov 29 2024

It's not for me. Good singing voice though.

Fiona has a great voice. Excellent Debut Album.

Low-Life by New Order
Dec 03 2024

Really cool album. definitely gonna revisit this one.

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Dec 05 2024

It's interesting, but it's tough to be invested when I can't really understand the language. good music though.

Homework by Daft Punk
Dec 09 2024

good debut album for Daft Punk, overall electronic music still doesn't quite do it for me, but Daft Punk might be the exception where they make it interesting enough for me to not get bored

Real Life by Magazine
Dec 13 2024

Real cool album. Quality songs all around.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Dec 19 2024

Jan 18 2025

This one might be a bit of acquired taste. I didn't love it, though it did have some parts I enjoyed some.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jan 21 2025

An Essential Rock live album for sure. The band was smoking from start to finish.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Jan 28 2025

great record! quintessential jazz album, a must in any jazz collection

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Jan 30 2025

Nice little album, Always had a bit of a soft spot for Randy Newman, his songs are pop culture with all the various movie soundtracks he's done.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Feb 01 2025

Eh, It was ok. It's not bad or anything, just isn't my jam.

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Feb 14 2025

Excellent album, some top tier writing by a great lyricist, Nick Cave. Not easy listening, its an album tinged with meloncholy and grief, but also hope.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Feb 26 2025

Feb 28 2025

Solid album, might need to revist to see if I like it more after some more listens.

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 01 2025

Bob Marley is good music for the soul. strong album from start to end.

Celebrity Skin by Hole
Mar 04 2025

Good songs on this. What Courtney lacked in singing ability, she more than made up for it with the conviction and attitude she sang with. Not that being a great singer ever mattered much, so long as the songs are good.

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Mar 06 2025

It's not really my thing. I enjoy a few sonic youth songs casually, but overall noise rock isn't really my thing.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Mar 07 2025

Super long listen, over 2 hours of country and bluegrass. great playing throughout. If Not for the length I'd definitely revisit this one with more regularity.

Tommy by The Who
Mar 11 2025

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Mar 12 2025

Excellent album. Lots of great songs on the album.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Mar 13 2025

Such a great album, one of my favorite Iggy Pop records.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Mar 14 2025

Good listen, maybe got a bit long at the end but overall good songs on this.

G. Love And Special Sauce by G. Love & Special Sauce
Mar 17 2025

Didn't really like the combination of rap and blues. Neither the rapping or the blues was very interesting honestly.

Suede by Suede
Mar 21 2025

>>>>>>>>>> It was solid, but probably won't revisit it. <<<<<<<<<<

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Mar 23 2025

Awesome debut album! crazy album from start to end.

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Mar 25 2025

It was ok. probably won't listen to this again.

Drunk by Thundercat
Mar 28 2025

Real good listen, Thundercat is a quirky guy, lots of fun lyrics on here, insane bass playing too.

Imagine by John Lennon
Mar 29 2025

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> It's a good album, though I think the song imagine is idealistic nonsense <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Apr 02 2025

Excellent album, lots of tasty playing from Knopfler and the band.

Gold by Ryan Adams
Apr 03 2025

Good album. It was mostly enjoyable.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Apr 04 2025

Maybe not as refined as the follow up, but a strong debut. Great singing obviously.

Ramones by Ramones
Apr 12 2025

Ramones!! An Essential album in any punk rock fans collection.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Apr 13 2025

The album that launched Kendrick Lamar's career. Top to bottom its a great album, a modern hip hop classic.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Apr 21 2025

Pretty enjoyable album. I liked it.

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
Apr 23 2025

Didn't vibe with this one. I didn't find the production very interesting.

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
Apr 25 2025

Good little album, good songs.

A Little Deeper by Ms. Dynamite
Apr 29 2025

Went in fulling expecting to dislike this, but was genuinely surprised at how good this was. had some honest lyrics with a good message and well crafted songs overall.

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
Apr 30 2025

I probably won't revisit this again, but It was interesting. It had a few good pieces of music and was not boring.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
May 01 2025

Gorillaz are awesome. Cool record, good debut

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
May 07 2025

oh yeah!!! great album. It has a unique energy to it, Johnny was bantering a lot(probably his addictions had something to do with it), but the crowd was much more raucous than at Folsom also.

Limp Bizkit's music carries with it a preconceived notion and bias since they've been a sorta punching bag for heavy metal fans. Musically this was good, Wes Borland in particular is an interesting player. Lyrically its mainly whiny, juvenile and corny, coupled with Fred Durst' whiny voice, its definitely a chore. most likely won't revisit.

Being There by Wilco
May 10 2025

similar to their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, I just don't find this band very interesting.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
May 11 2025

MTV era ZZ Top is still a lot of fun. Much less raw than their earlier records, but they still got that boogie going on.

No Other by Gene Clark
May 12 2025

Nice record, good songs on here. might have to add it to my list.

Sincere by Mj Cole
May 13 2025

Another Electronic album I just did not enjoy very much. boring and uninteresting

Disintegration by The Cure
May 14 2025

Must have for any goth rock fan.

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
May 17 2025

A bit strange to hear pre disco Bee Gees, its almost a different group altogether. Some really nice songs on this though,

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
May 20 2025

Another awesome album from the Boss. really enjoyed this more stripped down approach.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
May 21 2025

May need to give a few more listens, but I did like what I heard mostly.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
May 23 2025

\m/ Thrash Metal masterpiece. It can't be overstated how great and important this album is. Essential to any metal afficionado collection \m/

Diamond Life by Sade
May 24 2025

Awesome album. So smooth, its a vibe for sure.

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
May 28 2025

\\m// Fun Rock n Roll album. pretty enjoyable from start to finish \\m//

Country Life by Roxy Music
May 29 2025

Awesome album. top to bottom a very enjoyable listen.

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
May 30 2025

Morrissey is definitely a prick..but a talented one. This is a good album, maybe not on the level of the Smiths, but good nonetheless.

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
May 31 2025

Not my thing really. I just don't really like that super fuzzed out sound.

The Grand Tour by George Jones
Jun 02 2025

Short and concise album, but not a bad song on it. very enjoyable country album.

Dare! by The Human League
Jun 03 2025

Really good listen. I'm particularly amused that what is probably their most famous song, Don't you want me, is at the end of the album. That's not very common that an artists hit song is at the end of the album

Broken English by Marianne Faithfull
Jun 04 2025

Pretty cool album, Marianne sung with such attitude which more than makes up for her passable singing voice.

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Jun 07 2025

Did not like this at all. I don't like noise rock, made even more so in a language I don't understand.

Reign In Blood by Slayer
Jun 10 2025

\m/ Thrash Metal masterpiece, an absolute clinic in under 30 minutes of run time \m/

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Jun 11 2025

Super cool album, The Killing Moon is a banger of a song. Overall super enjoyable on my late afternoon walk in the a light fog.

Quiet Life by Japan
Jun 12 2025

Cool album. Quiet life the song, is awesome.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

One of the best pop records of all time, RIP Brian Wilson

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos
Jun 14 2025

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I'd hoped. musical arrangements was nice and lyricism good, but I didn't really vibe with this.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
Jun 17 2025

\m/ Solid overall \m/

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
Jun 18 2025

I didn't even finish this. Why is this on here? What is so great about this album that it deserves to be on this list. boring.

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Jun 20 2025

Although I don't think this will get repeat listens, it was pretty solid from start to end.

Close To You by Carpenters
Jun 21 2025

Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice. honestly, what a talent. This album was excellent from start to finish.

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
Jun 24 2025

Not really my thing, I liked a few songs atleast, like Sweet Gene Vincent, If I was with a woman, Blockheads, Sex & Drugs & Rock n roll. Probably won't listen to this again.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Jun 25 2025

Some absolute bangers on this album. Bad, The Way you Make me feel, Man in the Mirror, Smooth Criminal etc. I wonder how this was received back in the day, especially 5 years after Thriller. Thriller is obviously the better album, but this is still the King of Pop at the height of his powers, so it must have been a treat for people who waited for its release.

1977 by Ash
Jun 26 2025

Better than I was expecting. Pretty Rockin album from start to finish. Lots of big riffs, I can appreciate that.

Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jun 27 2025

\m/ Nick Cave stuff is soo good. I really liked the song When I first came to Town, the way it build up and peaks is so well done. \m/

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Jun 29 2025

Dull and boring. Not my thing at all. I don't enjoy this type of atmospheric, melancholic music

Jun 30 2025

\m/ YES!! \m/ Gotta love some Yes, Super Important band for Prog Rock.

Medúlla by Björk
Jul 01 2025

Very interesting concept, to make a an entire album mostly comprised of vocal sounds. I commend the artistry, while at the same time, admitting that I didn't really enjoy this. I like some Bjork albums, but this one was probably too out there.

Done By The Forces Of Nature by Jungle Brothers
Jul 02 2025

Not available on spotify currently. So I listened to their debut, and it was cool. Some Q-Tip Production and feature on 2 songs. A bit dated in sound for sure, kinda low budget and lofi even when compared to landmark hip hop albums that came out around the time.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Jul 04 2025

The Humpty Dance is an iconic hip hop song.....The rest of the album is alright at best. Definitely not something I think deserves to be on a 1001 albums before you die list.

1999 by Prince
Jul 06 2025

Decent Prince album, I like some of his other stuff better. It started strong but does get a bit long in the tooth with some songs maybe being longer than they should have been. I can appreciate that Prince was pushing boundaries and all with some of his subject matter, but D.S.M.R was not my thing at all. Couple with the fact that it was 8 minues long, when it should have been half that, and Automatic follows it and that was 9 MINUTES!!.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Jul 08 2025

Really cool, funky album. I actually liked this one a lot more than the last Sly & the Family Stone album I listened to last.

Jul 10 2025

interesting album....Will probably revist this to see if I like it more, but there were definitely a few songs I enjoyed straight away, Regiment, The Jezebel Spirit, Moonlight in Glory.

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Jul 11 2025

Hmm, I didn't dislike this, but I didn't love it either. Will have to revist a few times to see if it grows on me or its just not for me. Nick Cave was wild on this, super interesting to listen to him before he went "solo".

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Jul 15 2025

Pleasantly surprised with this one. I was expecting another boring electronic album, but this was nice, all the sampling going on and beat switches made this enjoyable and less repetitive than a lot of electronic music sounds to my ears.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Jul 16 2025

Not bad at all, pretty solid overall. Good beats, some decent melody here and there, not too repetitive.

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Jul 19 2025

Tom Waits is a fascinating artist. I've heard some of the early Tom records, and its a devastatingly good combination of dive bar, beat poet jazz/blues with that raspy voice of his that only gets more raspy as the years of smoking pile up on his voice.

Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg
Jul 22 2025

This was cool. Billy Bragg & Wilco made a cool country album, this one will probably get some more listens from me.

Jul 24 2025

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This was alright. I liked a few songs in particular, Thorn, Broken Hands, Who You drivin now?, Don't Fade IV. Maybe I'll check this out again after some time and see if it grows on me. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Casanova by The Divine Comedy
Jul 26 2025

Good album, has real good songs.....I liked the record that follows this one too.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Jul 29 2025

Banger. One of my all time favorite albums. There isn't a bad song on here.

In Utero by Nirvana
Jul 30 2025

Great album. Not much else needs to be said.

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield
Aug 01 2025

Good album, lots of excellent songs like Mr Soul, Expecting to Fly, and Bluebird. Not surprising, you've got both Stephen Stills and Neil Young featured on here.

Pump by Aerosmith
Aug 05 2025

Not my favorite Aerosmith album and definitely not as influential as their 70s material, but still a good rock album. This was most probably their commercial peak as well, with the music videos, the Desmond Childs of the world contributing to songwriting, it is no surprise it sold over 7 million records. I like Love in an Elevator(its dumb and catchy, sue me!) and Janie's Got a Gun is banger.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Aug 07 2025

Good stuff right here. This album had that Bowie magic tough all over it as well, with him and Mick Ronson producing and arranging

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Aug 09 2025

Not my thing, but far from awful.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Aug 11 2025

Not for me.

Abbey Road by Beatles
Aug 13 2025

It's a great album. The Beatles made a lot of great albums and wrote great songs. Come Together, Something, Here comes the Sun, I want You(She's so heavy), Because, are fabulous songs.

Technique by New Order
Aug 14 2025

Good album. There's not a bad song on it.

Rocks by Aerosmith
Aug 20 2025

Aerosmith were cooking on this. They were at the peak of their powers and excesses. Essential 70s sleazy Rock n Roll.

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Aug 21 2025

Lots of Tom Waits representation on this 1001 list. I think this is the 3rd album of his on this list. While its excellent, I'm sure there is still atleast 1 or 2 more on this list since they are even more acclaimed.

Aug 26 2025

I was familiar with Right Here, Right Now and The Rockafeller Skank since I've heard them in movies/tv over the years. It's a fun album, though I did start to tire of it toward the end. I have the same issue with instrumental beat/electronic music where the looping of hooks and music starts to get a bit repetitive.

Leftism by Leftfield
Aug 28 2025

Not really my thing. This falls in the category of electronic/dance music I just don't enjoy very much.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Aug 30 2025

Awesome, funky album. I Zimbra, Mind, Life during Wartime are standout tracks to me.

Third by Portishead
Sep 01 2025

I didn't enjoy this as much as Dummy, but that's not to say it's bad. Far from it, there's plenty of good stuff on here. The first 4 songs(Silence, Hunter, Nylon Smile, The Rip) were cool, as was machine gun and small.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Sep 02 2025

Another excellent Neil Young album. Honestly he had one of the best decades of music an artist could have.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Sep 03 2025

Metallica pushing themselves to the absolute limit, stretching the boundaries of their playing. Great album, warts and all(the burying of Jason Newstead's bass tracks) and the length of songs which by the bands own admission was maybe too long in some parts. But you got classics on here like Blackened, One, Harvester of Sorrow, the beautiful instrumental To Live is to Die

The Yes Album by Yes
Sep 04 2025

I quite liked this. Yes just makes great albums, especially the early ones.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Sep 06 2025

Probably Anthrax's best album. Though I do prefer Spreading the Disease over this one, it doesn't detract from the quality of this one.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Sep 08 2025

This was a strange album, very raw, unfocused. Not surprising given this was Syd Barrett post Floyd and when he was in the throes of mental illness. Not really my taste if I'm honest, though I appreciate that its a time capsule of sorts into the mind of a man who wasn't well.

Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear
Sep 11 2025

Very cool. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

D by White Denim
Sep 12 2025

Decent rock album. I might give this a few more spins to see if I like it enough to add it to my library. The song Sweet Joy sounded familiar to, even though I didn't know the name of the song until I listened to it on this.

Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton
Sep 15 2025

This album was one of the background albums to my childhood without me really knowing or caring about it. As I grew older, I came to appreciate just how good a live album it is and what an excellent singer and guitar player Frampton is.

Movies by Holger Czukay
Sep 17 2025

This was pretty cool. Krautrock is definitely interesting music, and I enjoy it from time to time.

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Sep 20 2025

Super cool album. E,W & F have so many classic songs, so I enjoyed this one.

Pieces Of The Sky by Emmylou Harris
Sep 24 2025

This is a good album. What else is there to say, I like Emmylou's voice and the songs are good.

Highly Evolved by The Vines
Sep 25 2025

Good record, Had a few moments here and there that perked my ear a bit. Idk if I will revisit this or not, because it doesn't really fill my taste for the kind of alt rock I enjoy.

The Libertines by The Libertines
Sep 26 2025

This was pretty good, good band, good british rock.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
Sep 30 2025

Solid stuff, not really my thing and I probably won't be revisiting this at all. But, I don't have a negative thing to say about this, it's just not my jam.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Oct 02 2025

I've heard a lot of great things about this album and Elliott Smith. It was cool, but maybe expectations from all the hype didn't quite match.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Oct 03 2025

I liked this. I'd heard good things on the Screaming Trees, but had never checked out their music. Might have to check out other stuff in their catalog.

Wild Wood by Paul Weller
Oct 07 2025

Excellent album. I'm familiar with Paul Weller from his work with the Jam. Top notch songwriter and this one is no exception.

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Oct 12 2025

A lot better than I was expecting. The singer, Tracey Thorn has a nice voice and the songs were good.

I Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons
Oct 14 2025

Not my thing, I found it too samey overall. I did like the piano playing here and there though.

War by U2
Oct 17 2025

Classic!!!

Oct 21 2025

I was not impressed with this sadly. beats weren't very interesting, rhymes were fine, but overall this was a miss for me.

Oct 22 2025

One of my all time favorite Thrash Metal albums. Essential album to any heavy metal collection.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Oct 24 2025

Possibly the greatest Rock n Roll album ever made.

Tom Tom Club by Tom Tom Club
Oct 26 2025

Fun little album. Very jiggy.

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Oct 30 2025

Really cool record. Donald Fagen is a genius and I dig his work with Steely Dan and I enjoyed this too.

Meat Puppets II by Meat Puppets
Oct 31 2025

Only know of the meat puppets because they performed on the Nirvana unplugged show/live album. This was cool though, kinda like country punk or something like that.

Fun House by The Stooges
Nov 13 2025

great album, real loose, nasty proto punk rock n roll album. one of my favorites.

The Stooges by The Stooges
Nov 17 2025

This is the worst of the 3 Stooges albums. Which doesn't make this bad by any means. Simpyl Fun House and Raw Power took it to the next level.

Timeless by Goldie
Nov 22 2025

I don't like this kinda electronic music, where it's just repetitive. It's probably cool to listen to at a club, while on substances, but at home sitting down, its boring.

S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things
Dec 09 2025

cool record. Psychedelic rock is a bit hit or miss for me. Sometimes it gets a bit much, but this was nice.

Music by Madonna
Jan 16 2026

I don't think this will get repeat listens from me, but this was interesting, had good lyrics and interesting music. I just maybe didn't like this as much as classic era Madonna music.

Cupid & Psyche 85 by Scritti Politti
Jan 23 2026

Not for me. It's too pristine and sparkly to my taste.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Feb 08 2026

cool album. Temptations made a lot of great music, especially the early stuff. This was late 60s, so it was bit funkier and slightly darker in feel.

Mar 14 2026

I just thought it was ok. It didn't really make my ear perk up. some hip hop from the late 80s or early 90s sounds really dated, even though there were some hip hop artists that sounded ahead of their time and still sound fresh a few decades later.

Scum by Napalm Death
Mar 15 2026

I don't love this, but I do like it and more than anything else, I give props for being one of those essential extreme metal albums.

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Mar 21 2026

C'mon!!!!! Stevie during his classic period is unbeatable. This is my favorite Stevie album.

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Mar 22 2026

Appropriately named album. It is a very enjoyable listen.

Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
Mar 28 2026

Don't know If I'll revist this, but it was an enjoyable listen. Good songs throughout, no skips.

Le Tigre by Le Tigre
Mar 30 2026

Cool album, very high energy. Very 90s alt rock. Good listen.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Apr 02 2026

Really nice album, good songs top to bottom. Will revist.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Apr 25 2026

So nice. This is that top tear, singer-songwriter music. Joni had such a lovely voice, top to bottom excellent album.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
May 07 2026

Not for me. Didn't really enjoy this much at all.

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Jun 03 2026

Really good listen, since its early hip hop, the rhymes and beats are simple, but still good.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Jun 11 2026

I liked this one a bit more than Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge which is also on this list and I got recommended before. I still don't love it as much as a I maybe should overall, but it is what it is. *A petty complaint but I resent that Spotify only has the deluxe version of the album.

Strange Cargo III by William Orbit
Jun 15 2026

Electronic music by and large is just seemingly not my thing. I just find it boring for the most part with few exceptions.

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
Jun 20 2026

quick, enjoyably Rock n Roll album from one of the forefathers of the genre. personal failings aside and all.

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Jun 25 2026

Really solid debut album from Lenny Kravitz. Had only really checked out his Mama Says and Are You Gonna Go My Way albums, so this was a first listen. Let Love Rule, I build this Garden for Us, Does Anybody out There Even Care, Mr Cab Driver and Rosemary were standout for me. But overall it was very enjoyable from start to finish.

The Specials by The Specials
Jun 27 2026

Not terrible at all....But I didn't really care for this, I'm not really a fan of Ska much. I'd rather just listen to reggae instead.

Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
Jul 04 2026

Really cool album. I had never been inclined to check out Janet' music before this was recommended. I do think pop music has advanced enough in the present where this does sound a little dated, but I imagine this was very revolutionary and forward thinking for its time. It still a strong album and I don't think it had weaknesses, mostly consistent top to bottom, real good political commentary that is still sadly very relevant in the present

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Jul 09 2026

Nothing wrong with this album, I just don't like a lot of indie rock because I'm not a fan of the guitar work. I don't like the style of picked out chords with chorus and reverb drenched all over it.

It's a good U2 album. Not at the same level as Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby, but good. critics were right to herald it as a return to form after Zooropa and Pop.

Jul 17 2026

I didn't really connect with this one. UK indie bands are a bit uninteresting for me by and large, with a few exceptions here and there.

OK by Talvin Singh
Jul 23 2026

Another electronic music project into the bin. I didn't even get all the way through this one.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jul 24 2026

Unbelievable album. A must needed part of any serious music afficianados music collection. Timeless.

Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby by Girls Against Boys
Jul 25 2026

This was better than I was expecting it to be, some good uptempo rock overall. My only complaint is I don't like the mix of the vocals, it gets buried sometimes by the guitars/bass when it maybe shouldn't.

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
Jul 29 2026

I gave this one a genuine listen even though its not really my jam. Of course I'm aware of Britney's hit songs since they were all over radio and mtv/vh1 in the late 90s-early 2000s and its part of pop culture. There are some decent songs on there, I thought the first 3 tracks were a strong start, then Soda Pop rolled around and that was the cringey kind of corny I don't like. The rest of it was fine altogether. It had this kind of innocent charm through the whole thing, and she had a great voice even at 16, which is crazy thats how old she was when she recorded this....makes total sense why she's had her mental health battles for the last 20 years or so.

Aug 01 2026

I didn't really enjoy this. There wasn't anything that jumped out at me to really latch onto.

Let's Get Killed by David Holmes
Aug 06 2026

Another electronic music project, another project I did not like. Did not finish all the way through.

Aug 08 2026

Great album. Oasis had 2 excellent albums right outta the gate, hard to pick one over the other, they are both so good. killer songs throughout on this one like Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova are well known classic songs.

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
Aug 10 2026

Eh, Its not really my thing. I actually remember Sex On Fire being everywhere back in 2008 and how annoying the song was/got.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Aug 13 2026

Mostly solid, although its not really my thing. I just never liked most of psychedelic rock music aside from a very select few bands that had bit more bluesy-ness mixed in than the middle eastern thing.
