Johnny Cash
4/5
The Man in Black! Really good live album, I like the little banter in between songs. Johnny was in top form on this one.
Radiohead
5/5
Incredible album. Crazy they were that deep into their careers and could make something that can rival their bests in Ok Computer and Kid A.
The Adverts
3/5
A lot of good snappy tunes on this record.
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
I only Know Pet Shop Boys because of their song West End Girls. There was some good songs on here, but overall it didn't grab me.

PJ Harvey
3/5
Sonic Youth
2/5
I'm just not a fan of Sonic Youth. Alt Rock royalty or not, It just don't move me.
Sex Pistols
4/5
Even though people have soured on the Pistols of late, calling them a boy band as well as in part due to Sid Vicious being a junkie murderer and John Lydon being a moron racist, this is still one of the best punk rock records of all time. so it deserves it props.
Louis Prima
3/5
enjoyable listen.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Some lovely singing and melodies on this one. I liked it.
Green Day
3/5
Green Day!
Really good album, Aged very well.

Ali Farka Touré
2/5
Not really my thing, though there were a couple good jams. Overall it not being an album sung in I language I can understand, I probably won't be revisiting this one.
Elvis Costello

ELP!!! classic prog
Eagles
4/5
Welcome to the Hotel California!
Just a classic. what else needs to be said.
Deep Purple
4/5
Great album, One of the best live albums ever recorded!
1/5
I just don't get noise music. It's so bland to me, lacking in this things that make music, music for me. Which is Melody and Harmony.
Taylor Swift
2/5
I don't see what makes this album so highly regarded. I can definitely admit that it is well made, written and produced. But it just seems like the rest of the polished, mass produced pop music of the 2010s.
Manu Chao
3/5
Was pleseantly surprised with this. I can get jiggy with this one.
The Bees
2/5
Had some cool songs here and there, but overall didn't capture my attention and I don't think I'll revisit
The Teardrop Explodes
3/5
cool album.

Not my taste. I've never liked Tainted Love either.

Grandpa Neil !!!!! Really good record, has some long jams and memorable guitar lines.
Lou Reed
3/5
I enjoyed this. I liked the orchestration used throughout and its got quite the star studded list of musicians.

Overall, I didn't find this very interesting nor reason to revisit. Singer does have a nice voice though.
Klaxons
3/5
Cool album. I liked the bass lines and production on this.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
It's a hard voice to get used to, but this had good instrumentation and the lyrics were good.
The Stooges
4/5
\m/ I've spun this one many times. nasty Rock n Roll record. \m/
Hot Chip
2/5

5/5
\m/ One of the best Thrash Metal albums ever made \m/

Arctic Monkeys
4/5

Paul Simon
3/5
Really good singer songwriter stuff.
XTC
2/5
Had a few songs I thought were cool, but overall I didn't find this particularly interesting
Rush
5/5
Must listen if you're into Prog. Even though by this point Rush wasn't writing the long epics, this is still must listen.
The Smiths
4/5
My favorite Smiths album. There's not a bad song on this record.
John Lennon
3/5
Good record. I'm not a fan of a lot of Lennon's opinions but he was undeniably one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.
David Bowie
4/5
Near 4 decades into his career and Bowie was still making an album this good. Really good stuff.
M.I.A.
1/5
I did not enjoy this at all. Even back when this released, I never understood the appeal nor the praise it garnered.
Arcade Fire
3/5
It was an inoffensive listen. Might revisit to see if it grows on me.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
2/5
This was alright. I kinda had high expectations since I like Damon Albarn's other projects, like the Gorillaz and this has Paul Simonon on bass too. Overall it didn't perk my ear up, found it dull.
The Black Keys
4/5
Real good record, probably the Black Keys best.
Stan Getz
3/5
Cool record
Marilyn Manson
2/5
I like the occasional Manson song here and there, but I'm not what you would call a fan. This record felt kinda top heavy, kinda dragged in the latter half to me.
The Byrds
3/5
I liked this. great vocal harmonies, singing and jangly guitars.
Lana Del Rey
3/5
I'll give it credit where its due. It's a lot better than I was expecting. I liked the musical arrangement and instrumentation.
With that said, I'm not sure if this is worthy of being on the 1001 album you must listen to before dying list...especially for an album released in 2021.
The Chemical Brothers
1/5
another annoying electronica album. didn't even finish all the way through. The genre just bores me to tears.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
definitely dated now since hip hop has changed a lot since then(hell even 6 years after this released, it had changed leaps and bounds), but its still a really cool record, very transitional with the combinations of singing and rapping.
Faith No More
3/5
It's a good record. I just think I prefer Angel Dust over this one.

Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Really good album.
Stereolab
2/5
Not really my thing. Did'nt really enjoy this.
Prince
3/5
Very interesting album. I don't think I connected with it just yet so I'll give it a few listens more. I definitely like the songs on disc 2 more than disc 1.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Really good album. Peter was great songwriter/guitar player.
The Temptations
3/5
Unsurprisingly, great singing and melodies. It's the Temptations after all!
The Byrds
3/5
jangly guitars, great singing, what's not to like? good album.
Beastie Boys
3/5
It's definitely dated in terms of sound, rhymes and the like, but its a fun record. Hip Hop moved far away from this sound in very little time, but it remains influential, as it should.

1/5
Just dull....I really didn't care for this at all.
The United States Of America
1/5
I didn't find this very interesting at all

Aimee Mann
3/5
Really excellent songwriting, good songs top to bottom.
Eminem
4/5
Back when Em's music was fun. Lots of dark comedy with a heap of Don't give a fuck attitude.
Culture Club
3/5
Great songs on here. The 80s were something else man, so much good stuff.
American Music Club
2/5
Not on streaming, spotify atleast, so it required finding it elsewhere.
I liked a few songs, the music is good, but I don't know if i'll revisit this one.
The Police
4/5
Listened to this one many times. It's not my favorite Police record, but its quality, has some massive hits on it.

4/5
She was a great talent. Had a beautiful voice, and this album is top to bottom excellent.

3/5
Good music and songs here. Paul Weller is an excellent songwriter.
3/5
Good album.
The Slits
2/5
Nah. Not my thing really.
Afrika Bambaataa
3/5
Interesting album. I'd imagine this one was awesome at block parties in the 80s, because thats the kinda sound it evokes.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Sinatra! What a legendary voice. This was smooth and melancholy.
Dion
2/5
bit of an unusual album. Very melancholic for the most part until the last song. Not sure I'll revisit.
Doves
2/5
I'm a bit conflicted on this album. It kinda starts off kinda dull, with the shoegaze-y style vocals, then transitions to a more clear vocal mix with some good songs. And then it kinda ends a little boring.....
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Good stuff! Proper Post Punk music.
Deep Purple
4/5
Absolute classic and must listen if you're a rock fan.
Bad Brains
3/5

Not really my thing. Had a few songs I didn't dislike, but overall nothing really grabbed my interest.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Great melodies. Some of the best singing recorded on wax.
Bauhaus
2/5
I didn't really like this one for some reason. Which I found odd because I liked the Bela Lugosi record..
The Young Rascals
3/5
Good album, very enjoyable.
Jazmine Sullivan
1/5
It's not for me. Good singing voice though.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Fiona has a great voice. Excellent Debut Album.
New Order
3/5
Really cool album. definitely gonna revisit this one.
Milton Nascimento
2/5
It's interesting, but it's tough to be invested when I can't really understand the language. good music though.
Daft Punk
3/5
good debut album for Daft Punk, overall electronic music still doesn't quite do it for me, but Daft Punk might be the exception where they make it interesting enough for me to not get bored
Magazine
3/5
Real cool album. Quality songs all around.
Liz Phair
1/5
Nah. not my thing. I didn't find the music interesting at all.
Madonna
3/5
This was fine, nothing too crazy, just so good ol 80s pop.

4/5
great record! quintessential jazz album, a must in any jazz collection
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
Banger! Start to finish a great album.
Randy Newman
4/5
Nice little album, Always had a bit of a soft spot for Randy Newman, his songs are pop culture with all the various movie soundtracks he's done.

2/5
Eh, It was ok. It's not bad or anything, just isn't my jam.
The Cramps
3/5
Cool record. good energy and songs from start to finish.
AC/DC
5/5
\m/ Bon Scott's finest hour! \m/
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Excellent album, some top tier writing by a great lyricist, Nick Cave. Not easy listening, its an album tinged with meloncholy and grief, but also hope.
Orange Juice
3/5
Pretty fun listen, some cool funky tunes on here.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Killer record, not a bad song on there. I prefer this over their Mellon Collie
Beatles
4/5
What many would consider the beginning of the peak of the Beatles albums, great album not a bad song on it.
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Solid album, might need to revist to see if I like it more after some more listens.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Bob Marley is good music for the soul. strong album from start to end.
Hole
3/5
Good songs on this. What Courtney lacked in singing ability, she more than made up for it with the conviction and attitude she sang with. Not that being a great singer ever mattered much, so long as the songs are good.
Sonic Youth
2/5
It's not really my thing. I enjoy a few sonic youth songs casually, but overall noise rock isn't really my thing.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
Super long listen, over 2 hours of country and bluegrass. great playing throughout. If Not for the length I'd definitely revisit this one with more regularity.

Ramones!!
An Essential album in any punk rock fans collection.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
The album that launched Kendrick Lamar's career. Top to bottom its a great album, a modern hip hop classic.
James Brown
4/5
James Brown! The Godfather of Soul! Great live album.
Massive Attack
3/5
Pretty enjoyable album. I liked it.
Dr. Octagon
2/5
Didn't vibe with this one. I didn't find the production very interesting.
Steve Earle
3/5
Good little album, good songs.
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
Went in fulling expecting to dislike this, but was genuinely surprised at how good this was. had some honest lyrics with a good message and well crafted songs overall.
Barry Adamson
3/5
I probably won't revisit this again, but It was interesting. It had a few good pieces of music and was not boring.
Gorillaz
3/5
Gorillaz are awesome. Cool record, good debut
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
1/5
Not my thing at all. I didn't enjoy it.
Lightning Bolt
1/5
nope. not my thing
Johnny Cash
4/5
oh yeah!!! great album. It has a unique energy to it, Johnny was bantering a lot(probably his addictions had something to do with it), but the crowd was much more raucous than at Folsom also.
2/5
Limp Bizkit's music carries with it a preconceived notion and bias since they've been a sorta punching bag for heavy metal fans.
Musically this was good, Wes Borland in particular is an interesting player. Lyrically its mainly whiny, juvenile and corny, coupled with Fred Durst' whiny voice, its definitely a chore. most likely won't revisit.
Wilco
2/5
similar to their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, I just don't find this band very interesting.
ZZ Top
3/5
MTV era ZZ Top is still a lot of fun. Much less raw than their earlier records, but they still got that boogie going on.
Gene Clark
3/5
Nice record, good songs on here. might have to add it to my list.
Mj Cole
1/5
Another Electronic album I just did not enjoy very much. boring and uninteresting
The Cure
4/5
Must have for any goth rock fan.
3/5
That was a Fun record, with catchy and quirky songs.
George Michael
4/5
Really good album, i thoroughly enjoyed it, I think I like this one better than Faith
Bee Gees
3/5
A bit strange to hear pre disco Bee Gees, its almost a different group altogether. Some really nice songs on this though,
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Another awesome album from the Boss. really enjoyed this more stripped down approach.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
May need to give a few more listens, but I did like what I heard mostly.
LL Cool J
4/5
Classic Hip hop album. LL was in top form.
Metallica
5/5
\m/ Thrash Metal masterpiece. It can't be overstated how great and important this album is. Essential to any metal afficionado collection \m/
Sade
4/5
Awesome album. So smooth, its a vibe for sure.
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Solid, but I didn't connect with this one. maybe another listen down the line may do it.
Turbonegro
3/5
\\m// Fun Rock n Roll album. pretty enjoyable from start to finish \\m//
Roxy Music
4/5
Awesome album. top to bottom a very enjoyable listen.
Morrissey
3/5
Morrissey is definitely a prick..but a talented one. This is a good album, maybe not on the level of the Smiths, but good nonetheless.
Dinosaur Jr.
2/5
Not my thing really. I just don't really like that super fuzzed out sound.
George Jones
3/5
Short and concise album, but not a bad song on it. very enjoyable country album.
The Human League
3/5
Really good listen. I'm particularly amused that what is probably their most famous song, Don't you want me, is at the end of the album. That's not very common that an artists hit song is at the end of the album
Marianne Faithfull
3/5
Pretty cool album, Marianne sung with such attitude which more than makes up for her passable singing voice.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
Did not like this at all. I don't like noise rock, made even more so in a language I don't understand.
The Dandy Warhols
3/5
Solid, I thought the first half of the album was stronger than the latter.
Slayer
5/5
\m/ Thrash Metal masterpiece, an absolute clinic in under 30 minutes of run time \m/
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
Super cool album, The Killing Moon is a banger of a song. Overall super enjoyable on my late afternoon walk in the a light fog.
Japan
3/5
Cool album. Quiet life the song, is awesome.
The Beach Boys
4/5
One of the best pop records of all time, RIP Brian Wilson
Tori Amos
2/5
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I'd hoped. musical arrangements was nice and lyricism good, but I didn't really vibe with this.
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
\m/ Solid overall \m/
Animal Collective
1/5
I didn't even finish this. Why is this on here? What is so great about this album that it deserves to be on this list. boring.
Red Snapper
2/5
Although I don't think this will get repeat listens, it was pretty solid from start to end.
Carpenters
4/5
Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice. honestly, what a talent. This album was excellent from start to finish.
Ian Dury
2/5
Not really my thing, I liked a few songs atleast, like Sweet Gene Vincent, If I was with a woman, Blockheads, Sex & Drugs & Rock n roll. Probably won't listen to this again.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Some absolute bangers on this album. Bad, The Way you Make me feel, Man in the Mirror, Smooth Criminal etc. I wonder how this was received back in the day, especially 5 years after Thriller. Thriller is obviously the better album, but this is still the King of Pop at the height of his powers, so it must have been a treat for people who waited for its release.
Ash
3/5
Better than I was expecting. Pretty Rockin album from start to finish. Lots of big riffs, I can appreciate that.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
\m/ Nick Cave stuff is soo good. I really liked the song When I first came to Town, the way it build up and peaks is so well done. \m/
Sigur Rós
1/5
Dull and boring. Not my thing at all. I don't enjoy this type of atmospheric, melancholic music
4/5
\m/ YES!! \m/
Gotta love some Yes, Super Important band for Prog Rock.
Björk
3/5
Very interesting concept, to make a an entire album mostly comprised of vocal sounds. I commend the artistry, while at the same time, admitting that I didn't really enjoy this. I like some Bjork albums, but this one was probably too out there.
Jungle Brothers
3/5
Not available on spotify currently. So I listened to their debut, and it was cool. Some Q-Tip Production and feature on 2 songs. A bit dated in sound for sure, kinda low budget and lofi even when compared to landmark hip hop albums that came out around the time.
Digital Underground
2/5
The Humpty Dance is an iconic hip hop song.....The rest of the album is alright at best. Definitely not something I think deserves to be on a 1001 albums before you die list.
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
Really cool, funky album. I actually liked this one a lot more than the last Sly & the Family Stone album I listened to last.
Brian Eno
3/5
interesting album....Will probably revist this to see if I like it more, but there were definitely a few songs I enjoyed straight away, Regiment, The Jezebel Spirit, Moonlight in Glory.
The Birthday Party
3/5
Hmm, I didn't dislike this, but I didn't love it either. Will have to revist a few times to see if it grows on me or its just not for me. Nick Cave was wild on this, super interesting to listen to him before he went "solo".
The Avalanches
3/5
Pleasantly surprised with this one. I was expecting another boring electronic album, but this was nice, all the sampling going on and beat switches made this enjoyable and less repetitive than a lot of electronic music sounds to my ears.
Röyksopp
3/5
Not bad at all, pretty solid overall. Good beats, some decent melody here and there, not too repetitive.
Tom Waits
4/5
Tom Waits is a fascinating artist. I've heard some of the early Tom records, and its a devastatingly good combination of dive bar, beat poet jazz/blues with that raspy voice of his that only gets more raspy as the years of smoking pile up on his voice.
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
This was a solid listen. I'm not really too into psychedelic rock, although I do appreciate the jangly guitars.
Billy Bragg
3/5
This was cool. Billy Bragg & Wilco made a cool country album, this one will probably get some more listens from me.
Mudhoney
3/5
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This was alright. I liked a few songs in particular, Thorn, Broken Hands, Who You drivin now?, Don't Fade IV. Maybe I'll check this out again after some time and see if it grows on me.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Good album, has real good songs.....I liked the record that follows this one too.
Joy Division
5/5
Banger. One of my all time favorite albums. There isn't a bad song on here.
Nirvana
4/5
Great album. Not much else needs to be said.
Buffalo Springfield
3/5
Good album, lots of excellent songs like Mr Soul, Expecting to Fly, and Bluebird. Not surprising, you've got both Stephen Stills and Neil Young featured on here.
Lou Reed
4/5
Good stuff right here. This album had that Bowie magic tough all over it as well, with him and Mick Ronson producing and arranging
Tricky
2/5
Not my thing, but far from awful.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
1/5
Not for me.
Beatles
4/5
It's a great album. The Beatles made a lot of great albums and wrote great songs. Come Together, Something, Here comes the Sun, I want You(She's so heavy), Because, are fabulous songs.
New Order
3/5
Good album. There's not a bad song on it.
Aerosmith
5/5
Aerosmith were cooking on this. They were at the peak of their powers and excesses. Essential 70s sleazy Rock n Roll.
Tom Waits
3/5
Lots of Tom Waits representation on this 1001 list. I think this is the 3rd album of his on this list. While its excellent, I'm sure there is still atleast 1 or 2 more on this list since they are even more acclaimed.
Fatboy Slim
3/5
I was familiar with Right Here, Right Now and The Rockafeller Skank since I've heard them in movies/tv over the years. It's a fun album, though I did start to tire of it toward the end. I have the same issue with instrumental beat/electronic music where the looping of hooks and music starts to get a bit repetitive.
Leftfield
1/5
Not really my thing. This falls in the category of electronic/dance music I just don't enjoy very much.
Talking Heads
4/5
Awesome, funky album. I Zimbra, Mind, Life during Wartime are standout tracks to me.
Portishead
3/5
I didn't enjoy this as much as Dummy, but that's not to say it's bad. Far from it, there's plenty of good stuff on here. The first 4 songs(Silence, Hunter, Nylon Smile, The Rip) were cool, as was machine gun and small.
Neil Young
4/5
Another excellent Neil Young album. Honestly he had one of the best decades of music an artist could have.
Yes
3/5
I quite liked this. Yes just makes great albums, especially the early ones.
Anthrax
4/5
Probably Anthrax's best album. Though I do prefer Spreading the Disease over this one, it doesn't detract from the quality of this one.
Syd Barrett
2/5
This was a strange album, very raw, unfocused. Not surprising given this was Syd Barrett post Floyd and when he was in the throes of mental illness. Not really my taste if I'm honest, though I appreciate that its a time capsule of sorts into the mind of a man who wasn't well.
Burning Spear
3/5
Very cool. I enjoyed this quite a bit.
White Denim
3/5
Decent rock album. I might give this a few more spins to see if I like it enough to add it to my library. The song Sweet Joy sounded familiar to, even though I didn't know the name of the song until I listened to it on this.
Holger Czukay
3/5
This was pretty cool. Krautrock is definitely interesting music, and I enjoy it from time to time.
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
Super cool album. E,W & F have so many classic songs, so I enjoyed this one.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
This is a good album. What else is there to say, I like Emmylou's voice and the songs are good.
The Vines
3/5
Good record, Had a few moments here and there that perked my ear a bit. Idk if I will revisit this or not, because it doesn't really fill my taste for the kind of alt rock I enjoy.
The Libertines
3/5
This was pretty good, good band, good british rock.
Fred Neil
3/5
Solid stuff, not really my thing and I probably won't be revisiting this at all. But, I don't have a negative thing to say about this, it's just not my jam.
Elliott Smith
3/5
I've heard a lot of great things about this album and Elliott Smith. It was cool, but maybe expectations from all the hype didn't quite match.
Screaming Trees
3/5
I liked this. I'd heard good things on the Screaming Trees, but had never checked out their music. Might have to check out other stuff in their catalog.
Paul Weller
4/5
Excellent album. I'm familiar with Paul Weller from his work with the Jam. Top notch songwriter and this one is no exception.
3/5
Loretta Lynn is an all time country great. This was short but very enjoyable.
Everything But The Girl
3/5
A lot better than I was expecting. The singer, Tracey Thorn has a nice voice and the songs were good.
Antony and the Johnsons
2/5
Not my thing, I found it too samey overall. I did like the piano playing here and there though.
U2
5/5
Classic!!!
Public Enemy
4/5
Public Enemy is awesome. This is a banger!
Mike Ladd
2/5
I was not impressed with this sadly. beats weren't very interesting, rhymes were fine, but overall this was a miss for me.
Megadeth
5/5
One of my all time favorite Thrash Metal albums. Essential album to any heavy metal collection.
The Rolling Stones
5/5
Possibly the greatest Rock n Roll album ever made.
Tom Tom Club
3/5
Fun little album. Very jiggy.
Donald Fagen
3/5
Really cool record. Donald Fagen is a genius and I dig his work with Steely Dan and I enjoyed this too.
Meat Puppets
3/5
Only know of the meat puppets because they performed on the Nirvana unplugged show/live album. This was cool though, kinda like country punk or something like that.
The Stooges
4/5
great album, real loose, nasty proto punk rock n roll album. one of my favorites.
The Stooges
3/5
This is the worst of the 3 Stooges albums. Which doesn't make this bad by any means. Simpyl Fun House and Raw Power took it to the next level.
