Reviews (page 13 of 13)

disco is dead

The source of a lot of hip/hop and rap hooks and beats later one. Full force disco funk with wedding staples that every DJ dreads. But they are staples.

Groovy, funky. Too clean, not much substance.

My sisters and me did not like it very much.

Definitely disco. But I find myself jiggling my foot and getting lost in the music as I work. Pleasant at first, but some of it's kind of sappy. ... OK reeeeally sappy. Won't be listening again. It's fine but it's just not for me.

Good funk album. Lots of iconic samples from this album. Not exactly my cup of tea

Too Disco for me...

eh.... not the best

Best: #5 We are family

Oh, no. Disco.

The music is very boring and the lyrics sound like they were written by a 12-year-old. There's nothing interesting about this.

I remember the song "We Are Family" being really popular back in the day, when it first came out. I seem to remember it being played at the roller skating rink the few times I went there. I listened to this 3 times in a row and none of it really grabbed me as something I need to listen to again. I wasn't into disco music at the time, and turns out most of it hasn't grown on me. This album just seems kind of generic to me. It doesn't grab me lyrically, musically, vocally. It feels way too smooth and edge free. I've come to the realization that in MOST cases (not all), people that are singing songs that they didn't write tend to feel like they are just going through the motions, playing a part, not really contributing artistically. This album reinforces that thought for me. Some top of mind exceptions I can think of are Diana Ross, Linda Ronstadt and Patsy Cline - where they take other's songs and make the definitive versions that are great. Old school artists like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley are like this too - where they are great at interpreting songs written by others. I did end up clicking "like" on "We Are Family" more out of ironic nostalgia than anything - since roller skating was fun. This song also clearly stands out on this album since they seem like they are singing more enthusiastically - which I think is why it still stands the test of time relative to the rest of this. Not for me

Seriously - what is the criteria to get on this list ? The hit, “We Are Family”, is innocuous disco that seemingly helped the Pittsburgh Pirates win the World Series in 1979 but other than that there isn’t much to get excited about on this LP.

Not something I enjoy

not 4 me. only listened to the 1st song.

Essentially a Chic album with a different set of vocalists. Rare for a late 70s pop album to have four top notch hit singles on it. You can hear the sound Diana Ross would develop with Nile and Bernard the following year. One of the best disco albums of the era.

Track 1 - 2.5/5 Track 2 - 4/5 Track 3 - Albümün girişiyle çok alakasız? 2/5 Track 4 - Vokaller güzel de şarkı feci tırt 1.5/5 Track 5 - 2.5/5 Track 6 - 2/5 Genel olarak tırt

Nah. Not even sure it's all in tune, but the recording could be bad I suppose.

Obviously can’t listen to this - hideous.

Oh. Disco. Being Raised in the '80's, I am a "disco's dead, long live Rock!!!" kind of person. That being said, this was an enormously sucuseful record.disco ain’t me forte. And other than the obvious, I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a Sister Sledge song. Can’t say as though I’m tempted to listen to more. This mostly sucks with a slight deviation to “been-drilled-into-my-head-so-much-I-mostly-like-it” for the title track.

To be honest, I can't stand most of the R&B, and especially that from the 70's and 80's. Just not my thing at all.

Really not for me. Nile Rodgers is a genius and the guitar and bass parts on this make some of it a worthwhile listen. The keyboards sound absolutely atrocious. Some bangers on here of course but only good on a dancefloor really. As an album it’s rubbish and repetitive.

I always thought this was a heavy metal hair band. Totally different end of the spectrum. I understand how the sisters influenced modern R&B girl groups like Destiny's Child but it's just not for me. The title track will always be ruined for being used in a McDonalds commercial. Hit this album with a sledge hammer and give it a 1.4.

If you want to dance the night away, this is the album for you! I don't want to dance the night away.

Man, disco sucks. Like, the music is good, but the lyrics are just awful. Who sings about this shit?

Not for me. 1/5

Too much disco for me.

Boring, not my cup of tea

Sure seemed like a REALLY long album. It just dragged on and on. I mean, I made it through, and was familiar with "We are family", but that couldn't save this one. And then tack on 4 horrible remixes ...

Disco sucked then and sucks even more now

Is disco meant to be this boring?

“We Are Family” COME ON DOWN TO OUR TOYOTA SALES EVENT! You can’t I hear it. I guess it’s not their fault their somewhat catchy hit got repurposed by every commercial ever. The other songs on the album sound pretty much the same. A fairly boring March through middling disco.

If it weren't for BUFFY - THE PROM, I'd not care for this at all, wink wink nudge nudge, ya know what I mean... 2 stars

We are family, der Klassiker in der Disco. Aber es bleibt halt Disco.

funky. probably won't ever listen to that again.

🥱 Lost in Music? Lost on me, tbh. The star is for the start of Thinking of You, which is quite groovy. But just the start. I kept turning this down because it was annoying me so much 🤣

Not a fan. Sorry

Nope. Every once in a while I think I hear some funk, and then it goes flat. Disco has little to no appeal, to me.

Disco is still dead. I did try to listen to this album on its own merits, but it's still the same repetitive, slick, overproduced monotony that it was in the 1970s.

Disco gals of the 70’s. Other than that not much.

I think this was more disco than R&B

Not my vibe

Ah memories

Didn't expect a disco album to be in here. Won't ever listen to this again.

Couldn’t give no stars !! Terrible!!!

Disco sucked. It still sucks, but it sucked too.

Extremely overplayed.

Elevator music has more depth. Disco sucks.

Not my vibe at all

Pretty unremarkable. Sure it was good for the time, but I’d be fine never listening to it again.

Not sure disco is for me. The hits are catchy enough though

Just couldn’t. Got to the 3rd song and could not go any further. 1st album I could not complete.

Mot my type of style or no so groove. Only really liked one song off the entire album.

Lidt for 70'er dance agtige.

Disco sucks!

Oh boy, another hour long album. Oh, so this is the band that "We Are Family" comes from

cool experience listening to this. i can definitely hear a LOT of future funk samples taken from this album alone (saint pepsi sampled easier to love, moe shop sampled he's the greatest dancer, etc...)
