We were. Unfortunately, my entire family is dead.
День пятый We Are Family Sister Sledge He's the Greatest Dancer и We Are Family.
I like the aesthetic as a whole, but I wouldn’t listen to it on a playlist. I’m looking for more mellow or sparkly
Nile Rodgers usually doesn't miss, but disco just isn't for me. While the A-side delivers the bangers, the second half gets tiring pretty quickly.
the only noteworthy track is the very first one
Alas, more disco than soul or funk. I did like those ‘79 Pirates, though!
All the bar mitzvahs
Low rating only because I'm not a fan of disco. I find the rhythm driving but monotonous. First songs all bled together in my mind on first listen. “We Are Family” is iconic and though not my taste in music, it has a deep nostalgia that you can’t help but dance around to. Truly the Sledge Sisters are talented vocalists. Kathy’s vocals in particular are so warm and mesmerizing. The band was playing in the pocket.
Very close to a 1 but it's not actually bad enough
Типичнейшее диско. Лучшая песня: You`re a Friend to Me
Not my thing at all. "We Are Family" is fine I guess
I thought this was going to be a fun album since I knew and enjoyed We Are Family, but it turns out this is not for me at all.
I feel like I should have enjoyed this more
This is usually my genre but I just didn't get into this one. It might be the disco part of it that's throwing me of - I usually love everything soul and funk, but this feels like a dance album over everything else.
Sleek production can't save repetitive, droning sludge. The guitar tone is nice, though near identical on each track, and the solo vocals are great. There's something I really dislike about the harmonies I can't put my finger on. (2/5)
asansör müziği gibi. favori şarkım You're a Friend to Me oldu
how is this mainstream breakthrough disco bruh
it’s fine.
This is a classic album for me - for the type of music I don’t like. The main album is just way over produced and clinical. Sounds like a computer controlled drum machine and the vocals ran through Autotune but this was way before those came in to being. Now I did hear Nile Roger’s guitar work which did keep this album from getting a one star plus I actually really enjoyed the “We Are Family" (Steve Anderson DMC Remix). Really sad when the remixes eclipse the originals.
2.5
The title track is a classic, but nothing else did much for me. I was surprised how short the original version of the title track is, where the weaker songs dragged on for much longer.
1. Yeah yeah we have hits... Still same ol', same ol' - with the utmost respect 😇 2. We're lost in music 🎶😭 Bring on number 3 I say! 3. Gentle, friendly, nice production 👍 Could've been a good minute shorter though 4. Funky 70s guitars, add bongo 👍 I like the stereo imaging. But again, a tat too long in playing time... 5. Heeey we know this one too! Repetition is key, again 🙄 Next song, Lord, please... Next!! 6. Did anything happen? I wasn't paying attention. 7. A story about friends, I suppose. Everyone is doing a great job, it's just hard to keep paying attention. You understand? ☺️
Not my cup of tea
Nichts für mich. Für entspannte Abende ecentuell ganz gut
enjoyable but after a while it's repetitive and it doesn't tell me anything
It's not bad music. We are family and Somebody Loves Me are music good to dance to. Well the whole soundtrack is, but it's disco. That's about the only time you would play it.
meh
It was alright. Nothing to write home about
not terrible, but not really interesting to me on a first listen, not my bag
This album was okay, standard disco as far as I can tell. It was cool to see where some songs where some samples were taken from
Nothing against Disco music, but this album contains only one hit (repeated 3 times!) and either bland songs or horrible remixes (... Lost in music) 5/10
No me atrapó del todo pero lindo álbum
The 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles blew a 3-1 lead and lost the series to Willie Stargell, Dave Parker and the rest....so, we're off to a not so great start here seeing as I'm an Orioles fan. Obviously familiar with the title track, but the rest just doesn't do anything for me. There are very few disco/dance songs that I like and I didn't find any new ones here. Great guitar from Nile Rodgers, the production is excellent and the sisters have really nice voices. But that's it. Really didn't enjoy listening to it, even though I was just trying to focus on Rodgers' guitar after the first few songs. The thing is, I WANTED to like this and I felt like from a few certain perspectives that I should have...the guitar, the bass lines, some of the beats but I just wasn't into it.
Not my thing but lots of floor filling hits !
Oof... So while I'll agree that there is some damn fine musicianship here, it's still disco. It's very disco. And while there are gems in the genre, by and large disco sucks. Seriously some great playing going on, but... nope.
Album is very long and there are only a few bangers surrounded by filler. 2 stars
Some classics on there but I can only handle so many disco songs in a row.
I’ve heard the song “We are family “ in the past so when I saw this album name I had a feeling it would be here
Good singles here and the groove is great but I did get bored. I also made a mistake of listening to the 1995 version which had three remixses of We Are Family (the song rather than the album). Did not enjoy this one as much as Earth Wind and Fire so giving this a lower rating. Do not feel I have much to say about this one, promise I am not a disco hater just felt eh about this.
Good pop. Not very interesting.
Ehh
One of those true one hit wonders. Made more TV appearances than music deals
The 4 hit singles from this album are classic bangers. The rest aren't too bad. Not the worst album
2/5, more oldies I've heard a million times. listenable but not what im here for. yeah its disco, yeah its okay. I will literally never play it myself
This just wasn't for me. I'm not a huge R&B fan, and disco isn't my jam either. I can appreciate the talent. I would have been unlikely to listen to this on my own, so I enjoyed getting out of my usual taste freeze. However, not something I'd seek out again.
Not bad - very easy listening though; nothing really standout.
Not bad. Glad I listened but I won’t be back. We are Family is the only memorable song.
Starts strong but fades after the fourth track. I imagine if you had We Are Family on vinyl that the A Side might get some play by disco fans, B Side is filler. Throw a bone to the Sistahs. (2.2*s)
Some decent disco. I was familiar with a couple of the hits which were still fun and held up pretty well. Love the strings integrated with the smooth bass and drum lines. A few of the vocals from the Sledge sisters are pretty silky. Unfortunately outside of the hits they slowed it down a little to much and the back half is pretty much skippable. 2.06 stars
It was an ok album. There were some good songs and some alright ones. Would not listen to it again
Some iconic music on here but hard to really appreciate the disco sound. The slow tracks were not my favourite.
Some good songs, but others that I found annoying. Will not be listening again.
Well…it’s disco. Can’t say I’ve ever listened to an entire disco album before. It was fine.
Not really big on this one. CHIC was better disco. But, if you needed to find a song to play in an Ancestry.com commercial, I guess "We Are Family" would be useful to have. I usually don't listen to deluxe editions or bonus tracks from rereleases, but the version of We Are Family I streamed had the bonus tracks from the 1995 CD rerelease. They make the listening experience worse, diluting the original 1979 vision with remixes from a different era (and dragging it out another half hour).
I liked a couple songs, otherwise it was very MEH
I was ready to listen with an ear to Nile Rodgers' hand in the making of it, and some of these songs were definitely hits, but some did NOT age well, Frankie among those. So how do you stack up a release for an above-average DISCO band against the other albums we have been listening to? Should I factor in the fact that the title track has every ounce of vitality wrung out of it by overuse in advertisements and politics? Should I add points because it has been sampled so many times since release? Do the vapid lyrics drag ot down as much if this was intended as dance music? The worst of the lyrics here were still easier to continue to listen to than some of the high concept albums I've listened to in the past, does that bring it up a star?
Lol trodde detta albumet va fra 90-tallet, så frykta da skulle bli ille. Va i grunn heilt greit
Memories were good but not a great album.
Not bad. I find Disco a bit bland and cheesy to be honest. I’m sure this was a vibe back in the day, but I’ve heard the songs at too many middle aged functions.
i didnt really care for it, production was nothing crazy, voices were good
All I can hear is will Smith's dumb ass getting jiggy with it and a song that's been so overplayed yet apparently still needs additional versions on the Spotify album. I guess there's some historical value to this one, but I don't need to hear anything off here ever again.
Didn't much care for disco back in the day, but now I find I can appreciate things I used to look down upon. I no longer look down upon disco, but still don't much care for it.
Pleasant enough but also just so boring
"We are family" is decent. But some of the newer versions are much better. The rest are just OK. 2/5
I appreciate the production and vocals. But I hate this type of music
It was ok.
Eh
Dated
Ok disco album. One good song
Obviously some incredibly famous songs on this one, but it really is just not my cup of tea. Probably needs a revisit at some point in the future. Other than the title track, I'd say 'Lost in Music' was the standout for me.
Not my thing, but does seem pretty thin and repetitive anyway.
One good--the titular--song. And I'm still resentful, 46 years later, of the wives of the Pittsburgh Pirates dancing to this song on the top of the dugout as the Pirates eliminated my beloved Cincinnati Reds from the NLCS.
2 out of 5. Wasn't feeling it, and so far this is the first time I couldn't find the whole album on YouTube.
The song "We Are Family" is an undeniable ear worm, but the rest of the album didn't perform to the same level.
⭐️⭐️ 1001 ALBUMS- # 35 We are family…We are family…We are family… Essentially this entire album echoes the disco beat of that single song. Yes a great groovin’ tune, however the novelty fun wore thin before I could make it through to the end. 🎧 Classic Track: We Are Family (duh) 🎧 Deep Cut Gem: One More Time 🚫 Skip Track: Somebody Loves Me The vocal performances from the sisters are right on point for this disco funk, however creatively they were merely the showpieces as the songs were written and produced from members of another band of the era (Chic). It’s entertaining without being especially intriguing or memorable (unless you are of an age where these beats backed countless wedding receptions!) Click the Thumbs Up icon below if you enjoyed my take on the album :)
point5.
I expected more and was quite disappointed.
Overplayed unfortunately, also has 4 duplicate songs on, if you've ever been 7 and dragged to your parents friends 35th party you've heard everything on here a thousand times
It's ok. It all sounds good but its got nothing special
Cool bass is the name of this album. Otherwise it's a bit slow and kind of bleeds together. Sister has a great voice, but i need more than fat bass and good vox to really enjoy something.
If I was 60 and about to tear up a wedding dance floor or roller-skate backwards, I would’ve liked it more.
It is what it is....disco with a few classic hits. Not really my cup of tea, but Nile Rodgers is THAT DUDE.
I really liked the hits on this, but honestly it became pretty repetitive.
Have not aged well.
Hitten är bra, men för mig är detta verkligen ett one hit wonder. Tvåa
He's the Greatest Dancer Lost in Music Thinking of You We Are Family
My reviews have been nothing but scathing in recent days. Perhaps it’s the premature warming of the weather and the apocalyptic images that conjures. Prepare yourself for a shock; I’m not a disco guy. Seeing this album pop up on a worryingly warm Canadian spring Monday have me questioning why I’m doing this at all. With that glowing endorsement out of the way, do your worst Sister Sledge. It can only go up from here. He’s the greatest dancer I’ve ever seen. Buddy is absolutely crushing on the floor. In a trance, just hammering the cabbage patch. This is repetitive and the vocals are boring, but picturing some dumpy guy confidently dancing poorly, is well worth the price of admission. With recent tragedies(Br*ce S*ringsteen) I can happily say, that this isn’t making me angry. Based. No job for me either. Now, I wouldn’t join an all-female disco troupe. I’d probably just feel the cool air of freedom for the first time in decades, but you know, same difference. Not horrible. Well. It was only a matter of time. This did not need to be as long as it was. Or as bad. The performances have passion and quality, but the songs are so boring at this point. The baseline is pretty funky, but I’m mostly non-plussed, when I had hoped against hope to be plussed. Oh boy, the big hit. More like the big shit. I kid the Sisters Sledge. Wait. Are they related to Percy Sledge? WHEN A MAAAAN LOVES A WOOOMAN. Wow. This is turning into a great day. This song is mid. That little flute stab has to be a sample in some rap song. Now that would be cool. Total destruction being mentioned is pretty cool. Somebody do a thrash metal cover of this song and change the lyrics to be pro destruction. This riff is pretty undeniable. If this was a 3 and a half minute song or so, it would be good. Oh no. This song isn’t a friend to me. We’ve really slowed down to absolutely nothing. Complete halt precipitated by a reggae guitar sweep and the simplest drum section of all time. Usually, if I could play it, something is wrong. Bad song. One more time? Uhh let’s table it here, ladies. Don’t press your luck. The album wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but I don’t think I can do this again. Let’s get out of here without me saying anything dreadfully mean, and we’ll call that a successful Monday. Colour me surprised. This thing isn’t for me, but it passed the authenticity test to my ear. The performances felt real, despite the clear radio appeal that this record had. There were fun moments on this thing but they were hampered heavily by the interminable run time of every song. That’s the nature of the disco beast. Call me an honorary sledge sister, because this puppy is about 2 stars higher than I anticipated conjuring upon the initial press of the play button. Way to go! 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Guys? I think I’m the greatest dancer of all time.
I see why this is a good album, but I don’t understand why it’s on this list. It’s fun and easy to listen to, but there wasn’t anything that stood out for me
The sample track for Will Smith's Getting Jiggy With it and then We Are Family.
What I kinda was expecting. Title hit, and a bunch of filler. I'm relocating today, so I have neither A. the time nor B. the inclination to give this a another playthrough. Sorry, Sister.
The musicianship is good and the music is often funky. But, the insipid string lines floating above are the reason I thought disco was so soulless.
Well, I never thought I’d be here as an adult, living with my parents, working a part time job. I’ll blame the fire (it was the fire’s fault). It’s been rough. So I wasn’t excited to hear disco, which I never ever dug. However, this album mildly lifted my otherwise ash-colored spirits, so I’ll give it a 2. I won’t revisit it, but I was grateful for it in this time.
2.5
Not for me
I was disappointed, most of the disco albums I've listened to for the first time through this have been really fun, but this one was just kind of dull, I thought. Not enough groove and/or funk.
I can't say this is bad, I just can't...
Oh yay, disco. Thanks.
Puh. Irgendwie billig.
The uptempo tracks are great, but I didn’t like any of the ballad-y tracks.
Its Disco
Bland R&B pop is not my thing. Only knew the title track, the rest was new to me and didn't really engage me.
Listened to about half. I can appreciate it for what it is and I obviously have heard We are Family but not really my thing overall. I’m interested to see if any of these albums from back in the 70s/80s do anything for me because it feels like they’re not really my style and it becomes background music but I hope something surprises me.
boring
Its ok. Its an easy listen, and I found myself bobbing my head along. But the songs do all sound the same after awhile.
Seems fine but just really not what I enjoy listening to
I liked it more than I thought I would.
Is it because their one hit is played out or is it because I never like their best to begin with? I’m not sure, but I know I’d change the radio station if it ever came on while I was driving. For that, it gets a 2.
80s disco, καποια catchy hooks ή soul μπαλαντες. Γενικα πολυ repititive δισκος και επαναλαμβανομενες παραγωγες για 4 5 λεπτα. Αλλα καλη φωνη η τραγουδιστρια .
Meh 1001 album worthy: No - 23/41
If you’ve heard the singles (and who hasn’t?) then you’ve heard the best this album has to offer. I get why the album is on the list, and don’t begrudge its place, but don’t make me listen to this repetitive shite any more, please.
I suppose this is good if you're into disco. But if you're not overly into it like myself, this isn't really going to change your mind.
The title track is iconic on its own rights, but the rest of the album is dull and boring.
Not often that I'll be in the mood for this. No problems with it but not something that makes me eager to go back.
I think I finally understand why so many people became fed up with disco in the 80s. All of these tracks are perfectly serviceable as lone experiences, but become a bit of a drag on one another when paired together. I was quite surprised to discover that We Are Family contains the We Are Family song. It never struck me as being a disco track in my vague recollections of the song
Fine.
1. He's the greatest dancer - Discoo. Samblätty Stepa-Lastenlaulu biisin. Ihan letkeä kuuntelu. 2. Lost in the music - Parempi ku eka. Jammailtava, sanallisesti itseään toistava mut hyvä fiilis. 3. Somebody loves me- Balladi. Ihan kaunis mut aika tylsä. Ei herätä hirveästi tunteita. Tausta takkatuli musiikkia. 4. Thinking of you - Vähän tylsä. Itseääntoistava. Ihan mukavaa taustalla mut ei iskeä sit sen enempää. Puutuu umph. 5. We are family - Klassikko kappale. En oo ikinä hirveemmin erityisemmin digannu. Ihan menevä mutta ei mun mukiin. 6. Easier to love - Vähän niinku hitaampi versio ekasta kappaleesta. Samoja musiikillisia elementtejä. Sanoma toki eri. Sanoma on ihan kiva, mut kuuneltava taas hieman pliisu. 7. You are a friend to me - Joo kai sitä voi jo todeta että tää musiikki ei ole muo varten. Joo sanoma on ihan kivsu mut kun ei vaan iske nii ei iske. Haluan haukotella. 8. One more time - Enkä paremmistoa näistä pliisuista mut ei silti kovin hyvä, liikaa toistoa sellasta minkä huomaa. Remiksit jätän kuuntelemati. Mut pika kelauksella We are family remix olivat plääh ja lost in music remix oli ihan ok meneviä.
A bit too much family.

Meh heb hier niks mee Disco kan me echt niet boeien
Disco isn't good and this isn't even one of the "good" disco albums. There are a few catching hooks here and there, but - for the most part - it's garbage. And the ripped off "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' It" by Will Smith.
We Are Family slaps, but the rest of the album is pretty ho hum.
Not bad. Still not convinced I like disco.
I'm going (4.8) ★★ The hit was the highlight and the closer.. The rest did nothing for me, in fact the slower songs were utter snooze-fests. Not my kind of Disco. I don't find this album exemplary of disco... I'm not sure why its inclusion
Not the worst disco I have heard, but it is still disco. 2.5 stars
Disco sucks - but this is pretty good. I imagine it is one of the era's best - I still wouldn't put it on tho.
One hit song does not make a great album...the rest of it was pretty forgettable.
Meh. It's disco, which should have stayed dead. I really am not a fan of disco, never have been, never will be. They just kinda repeat the same things over and over for 5 minutes, it's really boring. The music isn't even interesting either it's just bland and repetitive.
I don't like disco. vocals are fine, but each track just repeats a refrain over and over. and over. and over.
A decently funky and entertaining time. Nothing really great, but it was fine
i'm sorry this is so nothing to me. there's just nothing here
disco died appropriately as it was getting too repetitive. slow sounds making me feel some way.
I mean it's alright, the title track is obviously iconic but the rest of it all just sounds exactly like that one. There's not a whole lot of out-of-the-box thinking here.
A couple of good songs. Otherwise the album is just full of filler. But to be fair, I'm not that familiar with disco...
I truly do not want or need this type of music in my life. Well crafted for what it is, but it's not for me. 2/5
If you like to hear women screaming ... This is for you
At different points in this record I felt like I was stuck in a dentist’s waiting room and it would switch to feeling stuck in a Julia Roberts film.
ok ok, it's a classic. that doesn't mean i have to like it...
The singing is lovely however some of the tracks and miles too long
Get jiggy wit it! That’s the best thing about this album. I don’t like disco.
Each song had great moments but most were drawn out so desperately that I couldn’t continue to enjoy it. Clearly an album meant to be danced to , not really sat down and analyzed. Solid talent but very little substance
Correcto
We all know the We Are Family song. Well this record is basically the same song over and over again. It's got a lot of cool funky bass parts and the vocals are sung great. But the songs are very similar to each other and thus made this album kind of boring. It's not horrible, I did enjoy it for the most part. I was always curious to what the next song would be like, and to my disappointment, it was just the same ol' cookie cutter Sister Sledge paitnt-by-numbers formula. I won't listen to this again.
Kinda repetitive throughout. Songs all felt a little too long. Not something I’d see my self going back to. Fav Song: We Are Family.
It’s always fun to find a hip hop sample in the wild (Greatest dancer - used in gettin jiggy with it) and We are family is super catchy. BUT the rest feels like filler and didn’t hold my interest.
Pretty ok Dance/70's music -- I have heard my partner's family sing "We are Family" every year at New Years for seemingly ever!
If you were listening to music in the 70s, wore bell bottoms and big spread collars, pulled your striped tube socks up to your knees, and liked Soul Train, you probably liked Disco, R&B and Soul. I was listening to music in the 70s, wore bell bottoms and big spread collars, pulled my striped tube socks up to my knees, liked Soul Train, and liked Disco, R&B and Soul. I do not do any of those things now.
"We are family" was on the do not play list for my wedding reception, so.....
maybe didn't listen enough but felt very bland 2
Standout song: Lost in Music
This was a bit better than expected. The faster tunes were pretty catchy.
Sister Sledge, I never liked them! I still don't like anything on this album except one song. Hearing it for the first time on a good speaker, with the volume up high, the guitar, bass & percussion on 'Thinking of You' sound great!
Felt so wrong not having Will Smith come in on the opener. Honesfly 2 feels harsh because I liked it but I think its better suited for a venue. Favourite Track: You’re a Friend to Me
Appreciate the disco and there are a couple Jams, esp the first song on the album. Overall though, I want to dance and this was pretty low key for disco.
It was okay, a lot of the songs sounded the same.
This is probably a well done disco album, but the songs were way too long and sounded mostly the same. So it wasn’t enjoyable.
I didn’t love it. Too much disco, but there was some funky guitar. There were some three star songs on here, but too much of the rest grated on me. Also, I had to listen to We Are Family while not at a wedding reception.
Disco er og bliver bare ikke mig
Disco is still not my jam.
Gleichförmiger R&B. Bekannte Ausnahme und Highlight ist der Song "We are Family".
Disco’s just not for me
Totally okay! The singles are the singles, timeless yet beaten to death and a bit too luxe-cuddly to be the disco greats I love. 'You're a Friend to Me' is pure 'think of the children' nonsense about the state of the world. Highlights: the tambourines on 'Lost in Music', the confidence to not make the title track the opener
Disco is not really my thing. 2/5
Meh
This disco album doesn’t really do it for me. The singles are solid dance music that can get the masses on the floor (“We Are Family”, “He’s The Greatest Dancer”). The rest/slower songs don’t add much value. Some quality funky/groovy instrumentals - particularly the bass. There’s good quality across this album, it’s just not really my thing.
Soul/R&B, nice vocal harmonies but a little slow. Recognized the title track, of course
Sorry, not my thing
5/10 Highlights: We are Family Hes the Greatest Dancer
We are family
Stop giving me jazz
The super well known songs on this album have the double effect of raising the score as well as making the album seem better than it is. Take a step back and look at its whole and it’s not that great
This seems to me to be a Chic record in all but name. I has all the high quality classic disco production skills that one would expect. But despite all that, this record leaves me completely cold. It has no significance for me at all - back in the day if I went clubbing, it wouldn't be at the kind of clubs that played this sort of 'disco music'. I'm giving this 2/5 because of the production. I see from the Wikipedia review that Sister Sledge didn't have sight of the songs before being presented with them on the day of recording, which seems astonishing to me.
Klingt ja wie Chic. Wobei ich die besser fand.
Not my favorite genre, but I realize there had to be some disco on this list. First song was good.
he's the greatest dancer lost in music easier to love
It is just not my style of music. I can hear the beats being used in other songs. Everything just feels and sounds the same.
Nothing amazing here. Obviously a couple good songs, but I would say only good because of how we see them now. Not necessarily good as a standalone piece.
Ok. Familiar
No disrespect to this album specifically, I just really don't like disco, especially from the 70s/80s era. I can appreciate that as far as disco goes, this is actually a really good album but it just isn't to my taste at all.
I expected it to be more interesting.
nope
Not really my thing but objectively good and a couple of classics on here. I gave it a go but won't really be coming back to it.
Not bad but not great
Not my type of music but a classic.
Fun but only real memorable song is their classic, "we are family"!
Wow, apparently I never knew who sang “We Are Family” before. Nothing too interesting or surprising here. Slightly boring, and even the main hit (while legendary) didn’t give me enough feels that would put this album above any of the others we’ve listened to so far.
Misery alert: I hate the song We Are Family. Maybe there's an undeveloped bit of my brain that can't just say 'that's a fun song that people like to dance to', but there we have it. Greatest Dancer is a good song, and the production is extremely shiny, but I'm afraid it's not for me.
It's really good for its time, a lot of classics. But not really my time of genre for running through daily. Might add to a long playlist but won't be keeping this in my daily rotation.
It was fine, but it felt more dated than the other albums we've heard. Also, the titular song, "We Are Family," is so overplayed at family-friendly events that it almost seems like a parody of itself at this point.
to hear
duplicate
Not bad. But I was hoping for better considering I knew "we are family" 2.5
favorite song - we are family just all sounded the same would probably be fun remixed with other stuff or for dancing, but not to listen by itself
Not my style, but interesting that I learned "Gettin' Jiggy With It" by Will Smith took its lick from the first song here.
Många bang bang bangers Lite erotiskt? Synd att remixarna är med. Drar ner.
It's disco and I just can't get into it. This was a bit more mild on the parts of disco I dislike and the singing was good. Which helped the score not be lower.
Generic disco

I’m sure this was amazing in ‘79. In 2023, sounds boring. Or maybe just not my thing. [0085/1001]
It's just your basic, cheesy disco stuff. No thanks.
It’s ok. Gets repetitive
Mediocre disco-funk. Competent in every respect but devoid of any real creative impulse.
Blast from the past
Amazing production. Really dumb songs. These songs are so dumb they could be SNL skit songs. But they'd be dumb SNL skits; like mid-90s SNL dumb. Of all the amazing disco and soul music from the 70s, the fact that this album makes this list makes me question my decision to participate in the first place. We are family may have been worthy of being a hit in '79. Now it's just a cliched wedding reception staple.
meh
Naff 70s disco
With 0 context and 0 research this is as soulless as disco was supposed to be according to those telling me about it
Album started off strong but the quality quickly faded.
I lost interest in all the songs before they were halfway through, including We Are Family. It’s good music for the roller skating rink.
dusty
Very funky disco vibes. First couple songs were enjoyable before it starts to slow down.We Are Family I've definitely heard before. A couple stand out songs but also a bunch i really didn't care for, probably a 2.5 overall.
Nah, not for me cheers. Kind of music that is so incessantly played on radio it becomes nail bitingly terrible.
Catchy disco/funk music album, but nothing special. Tracks I like: He's the Greatest Dancer We Are Family
This is good music sure but at no cost. Meaning no chances taken and no challenges met. Derivative to say the least
Not my thing
Bouncy, well-played, but corny as FUUUUUUUUUUCK. Ugh.
Title track is decent. Wish ratings were more granular, its better than 2 stars but not quite 3. Dead average, funky.
Groovy but felt short idk
2 good songs. first song and title song. this has no place on this list. i give it a 2 bc i liked the first song a pretty good amount.
4 songs are some of the best disco tracks around but the rest of the album doesn’t live up to them
not bad music but not my kinda music either
2 Yeah… not really a disco fan. I tried going into this with an open mind, but outside of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, this is probably as disco as disco gets. Apparently this album was entirely written and produced by the two frontmen of Chic, to the point where one of them claimed this as the best album of Chic’s career. Appropriately, it just so happens I have the same hang-ups with this album that I do with C’est Chic - songs go on too long, lyrics are pretty unimaginative and cheesy, and the R&B moments are weak. Lost in Music was the only song I kind of enjoyed, though I can concede He’s The Greatest Dancer could potentially hit pretty hard if it was playing in a dance environment and I had a few drinks in me. Not much else to say here - the title track is overrated and overplayed. No disrespect to anyone involved with the making of this album, and by no means do I think this is bad, but it’s not my thing.
some hugs hits on the album but i felt it was just ok overall.
This was my last album before the great hiatus. I have no mercy anymore. This is new Brian. I will one good song = one star.
Who hasn't heard "We are Family"? Very 70s, not my thing
OK
Meh
Undoubtedly talented but not my genre.
I tried to like this more than I did. Didn’t love it.
Fun enough but too long and repetitive
Música disco que está linda para un rao. Pero es muuuy monótona, se vuelve aburridisima.
Surprisingly low energy, aside from the title track.
Disco on a Monday morning. Ugh
This album is pretty much ruined now. Will Smith ruined He’s the Greatest Dancer, weddings and school dances ruined We Are Family. Lost in Music is actually pretty annoying. But I never realized Thinking of You was such a jam, definitely the highlight. The other songs are fine, but not memorable. And it’s disco so that knocks off a star.
Okay album, 1/3 of it was made up of 2 songs with slight different versions
Catchy, yet repetitive and outdated. Of course this isn't a surprise for a standard disco album.
It was fine!! There aren’t too many ways to do disco different. I thought the first song was good but then every song after it sounded the same…
Everyone likes disco to some extent, you’re gonna be tapping your foot to the Four on the Floor beat at some point. However, I lose my appetite for disco pretty quickly. There’s typically little creativity, the songs don’t tell a story or lead you anywhere. He’s the Greatest Dancer, for example, takes almost 5 1/2 minutes and just repeats the same few musical motifs. I will say, if you can forget just how overplayed “We Are Family” is, you have to acknowledge it’s likely a top 3-5 disco tune of all time. Props.
Soul funk com vocais agradáveis.
Disco is not my thing.
jammin
Oh man I hate disco. To begrudgingly give credit where it's due, Nile Rodgers does lay down some good rhythm guitar and that gets it over the starting rating of 1 that applies to all disco albums.
Today I learned that the four singers are actually sisters so We are Family brings a new meaning to me. The only bright spot on this album is Nile Rodgers' inimitable guitar playing. When he's playing the tunes have an infectious funky beat that really elevates it from the detritus of this pop/soul album. There are two passable songs on this album so it gets two stars.
Not for me
Was alright. Funky but a bit samey after a while.
Decent, for disco, although Lost in Music is a hypnotically great track. Some of the slower songs drag massively, and even the big hits are only decent. Involvement of Chic elevates it slightly, but I just didn't enjoy it enough for it to score very highly.
It's fine. Pretty straightforward. We Are Family is obviously a classic, but not really too much going on outside of that worth mentioning. Standouts: We Are Family
every song sounds the saaaammmemememeem
2.5
Track 1: He’s the Greatest Dancer This is groovy. I like the lyrics and this song a lot. It does get really repetitive over time. Track 2: Lost in Music This is fine. Sounds like a more toned down We Are Family. Track 3: Somebody Loves Me This is a ballad, but sad. It’s very nice. Track 4: Thinking of You So far, so many of these songs sound the same. This is an okay song. Just disco music Track 5: We Are Family This is the title track and is simply the best song on this album. It stands out and just possesses so much diversity in sound. Compared to the other songs. Track 6: Easier to Love This song is ok. I’m honestly just bored. Track 7: You’re a Friend to Me Once again, this song is mediocre. Not much stands out to me. Track 8: One More Time I like this one. It’s simple but catchy. I love the guitar solo. (Skipping the remixes)
For a minute, I thought "He's a Great Dancer" was a wholesome appreciation of a guy's good moves. Then it turned out they were just objectifying him from the dancefloor to the bedroom. "We Are Family" is a terrific disco classic, but there's not much else of note here. Disco can be kinda dull and repetitive sometimes, seemingly working counter to the dance-fueled aims of the genre.
I echo all the reviews that pitch this between a 2 and a 3. So rounding up or down is the dilemma. On balance I’m not revisiting this album unless you were in a discussion about Nile Rodgers. I will give a 2 ignoring his other contributions to music. Eg Bowie
Yea man this sounds like the kind of music this group would make. Made the album to sell that one song
Kinda my vibes, but didn’t get to listen enough
Good disco album with nice riffs, but could do without the remixes at the end.
Not really my style overall, but some fun stuff. I always enjoyed that jangly style of Niles Rodgers on the guitar. The harmonies are great and the sisters sound like they are having fun. The title song is certainly a classic. The rest is ok but this isn’t something I think I’ll be throwing on much.
Mwoah. Eher langweilig.
We are family. I got all my sisters with me. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. They basically take one line and stretch it out to fill an entire song. I really don’t like disco. Now here I am twelve hours later and it’s still stuck in my head.
Okay album. Songs are repetitive throughout each song and most of the songs sound similar to each other so it gets kind of boring. I'm sure some people like it, but not really for me.
• Definitely not my usual style of music, but it is catchy • This album is the definition of background music • Their Alvin and the Chipmunks cover is cool • The fast songs all sound the same and the slow songs are boring • The close doesn’t have the same punch as many of the other tracks • I was happy when the album finally finished Favourite song: We Are Family
Lo que le pasa a todos los discos de disco: hacen una rola de tres líneas y luego la repiten medio millón de veces.
Ook dit is niet mijn genre. Maar het luistert wel aardig weg.
Not a big fan of disco. This album has a few good tracks but most of them get on my nerves
Chill, upbeat, nice to have on in the background.
Not a terrible album, but as it's a remaster there are a lot of the same track, and not all of them are successful. Wouldn't turn it off though.
Ok for what it is, but not my cup-of-tea, and I’m not a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. (You probably gotta be aged 55+ to get that reference…) Also, I don’t think there is any compelling reason to put this album on the list.
Ouains.
Good production and melodies on this one, just not enough distinct material to sustain much interest.
Hard to stand listening to the song We Are Family at this point. Rest of the album is boring.
Kinda boring dont eve finished
Positively speaking, this album contains many of the tropes of the 70s, from the R&B smoothness to the Disco beats, and it does it with real authenticity. While not the usual fare for this listener, the album experience on Spotify was great, the tones and sounds were warm, the vocals were clear and distinct, it was a well-executed-for-this-ear listen. "We Are Family" a most recognizable chorus that has claimed its status as what will likely be a permanent social/pop culture reference, is certainly worth the full listen. Put aside the commercials and with intent disavow the jingly reputation of the song, and give Sister Sledge an opportunity to introduce themselves.
Not my thing but didn’t hate it
Plätschert etwas dahin. Lost in Music fand ich aber schon immer geil. Gute 2.
It's not the best disco out there at all. Some okay tracks to start with but it loses steam as it carries on
Meh. I mean...it was okay I guess? I didn't completely hate it. Not a huge fan of disco though, so I'm a bit biased against this one. Fave track: We Are Family is the obvious choice but also enjoyed He's the Greatest Dancer.
fking disco :)
I like the track "We Are Family", but the rest of the songs are boring and uninteresting.
pretty funky but still boring
Great for a Disco album
Die können nichts dafür - nicht mein Ding
Good sound
Lots of these sounded like the same song. Not super crazy for this.
Standard Rodgers/Edwards disco. Heard this play on the radio way too many times.
Te zoetzappig.
Vlees nog visch.
Eh. I mean, really… Eh. Unless it’s being played after a wedding, I’m all good on ever hearing the title track again in my life.
Meh. The current spotify version has We Are Family on it 3 times, and two of those versions are over 8 minutes long! Nobody likes that song enough to listen to over 20 minutes of it on one album.
Second Listen. Still not great. 2/5. A few good songs, no doubt.
Some good hooks, the hits are recognizable from pretty much any Disco related media you've ever seen. Very repetitive, seems like they get an idea for a song and then just milk that one line or tune on repeat for 5+ minutes.
We are family
Funky, groovy album with pre-nods to disco. Not my favorite.
Way too long an album and very repetitive. Too bored to finish it fully, or maybe I just wasn’t at a party in the 80s…
-not my kinda jam... -kinda catchy songs -sweet sounding but not my thing
Either the entire style or at least this particular album didn't age well at all. The music isn't bad as such, but it's entirely uninteresting to me from start to finish. The well-known title track might be the worst song of the album by virtue of being catchy in an annoying way.
No coneixia aquestes germanes, tret del seu èxit "We are family". Àlbum amable de disco funk. Per tenir de fons, inofensiu i agradable, però sense més.
From the golden age of disco, where you can repeat the same lyrics 80 times over! Some of the bass funk lines are awesome!
Still feels fresh. Got that obvious Niles Rogers influence.
