I'm in the minority here for sure but... what's the appeal here? Tonally it's quite monotonous. Sonically, nothing new. Lyrically, hard to tell. The vocals are mixed so far back and the slight distortion on them makes the words just blend into the rest of the instrumentation. Pretty meh. I recognize a few of the tracks, but that doesn't mean they're good, just that they're played on the radio.

I get that this was a genre defining album for the time, but the genre is really bad, so I can't condone these actions.
1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die eh? Well death didn't come quick enough to save me from this. No stars.
The fuck was that?
I don't understand why people like Pearl Jam.

This is absurd
Just can't get into B&S
Didn't age well
Like if Bob Dylan was born on the Titanic and also interesting.
The fuck was that?
Didn't get it at all
Doesn't exist on Apple Music
It would be good if it didn't suck.
Wtf was that?
Not as bad as I thought, but not really my thing either.
Drive-By Truckers HAVE good albums, this is not one of them.
I don't understand why people like Pearl Jam.
I get that this was a genre defining album for the time, but the genre is really bad, so I can't condone these actions.
The band who started elevator music I guess?
The more I’ve tried to like Pet Sounds over the years, the more I don’t get it. It’s aggressively okay?
I knew what the album would sound like just from the title.
I don’t love it, but there’s a lot to unpack here. I’ll give it another few listens but I can see why people wouldn’t be into this.
This feels like a record exec justifying an expensive studio. I don’t get the appeal of all high-mid, breathy vocals.
No doubt there are some absolute legendary bangers on here, but as a cohesive album this just doesn't cut it. It feels like a bunch of randomly thrown together songs that Paul McCartney maybe let some other people help with? Idk I don't get the hype.
This album reminds me of that friend who asks, "HAVE YOU HEARD *song you've never heard of*?!?! IT'S SO FUNNY" and then proceeds to show you YouTube clips of whatever the fuck. I guess it's funny, maybe if you like stuff that sucks.
Nothing funny about this.
Leonard Cohen songs are meant to be covered, not listened to by the original artist.
What did you think we were raging against? The toaster?
This has always been my favourite Beatles album. Dang heck yeah.
Where the hell did this come from? This was fan-fuckin-tastic!
That song about the Rooster really sucks.
It's probably my western biases, but I can't really differentiate between all the songs on this album and when I say songs, I mean 10+ minute solos. I thought it was very cool how he explains the differences between western music and the Hindustani that he was playing. I'll listen to this again, for sure.
Well I can't say anything new about this album. It fuckin' slaps.
I'm in the minority here for sure but... what's the appeal here? Tonally it's quite monotonous. Sonically, nothing new. Lyrically, hard to tell. The vocals are mixed so far back and the slight distortion on them makes the words just blend into the rest of the instrumentation. Pretty meh. Somehow all the worst parts of 80's music got amalgamated into a single album and then I had to listen to it.
Disco sucked. It still sucks, but it sucked too.
Not sure that I HAD to listen to that, it was okay I guess but nothing extraordinary.
Yawn.
What a snooze fest.
Apart from the singles that the whole world knows, it's a pretty ho-hum album.
The harmonica player was listening to a different album than I was. Holy, tone it down.
Someone teach the kids how to use compression, yikes.
I truly do not understand the hype behind Prince. Amazing performer no doubt, but the music is pretty cookie cutter 80's pop. My two favourite tracks were Computer Blue and Baby I'm a Star, the least Prince sounding tracks on the album. I think I just don't like Prince.
Well that was a waste of bandwidth.
Influential? No doubt. Good? Ehhhhh... and I say this as a Dre fan. Listening to it critically in 2023, this isn't really a good album. There's very little Dre, all the tracks are about the same thing (that's kinda just gangster rap though) and like big dicks or whatever. The production does all the heavy lifting on this album. It still sounds great and reminds me of the golden era of hip hop.
I loved this as a teenager. It's actually not very good. The bangers still slap sure, but the rest of the album kinda sucks.
I'm sure this sounded great in their heads. It's unfortunate that it didn't stay there. This is awful.
I liked this album more than I thought I would, but it's not exactly good. If the songs were half the length it would have been an improvement.
The bangers fuckin' slap, the production was game changing but Kanye still Kanye. He's an okay rapper, clever at times, lazy at most. The production is obviously the standout and always has been. Too bad he turned into such an awful person.
Some of the worst, self indulgent crap I've ever heard. The worst part, is that sonically this album sounds FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. There are a smattering of good ideas in there too, they just forgot to put them together in any kind of meaningful way. Plus it's a stupid album name, with an arguably as stupid band name. Would give zero if I could.
They wrote three singles and realized they had to fill up the rest of the album. And that filler.... hoooooo boyyyy is it filler. Overall an awful album, the bangers slap.
I love QotSA but this is a demo.
I'm still waiting for the album to start.
'MURICA.
I like Lou Reed, but I don't like Lou Reed albums. There I said it.
What is it that I'm missing about this guy? Why do people like him, why are there so many of his albums on this list?
90's indie rock from the late 70's. I will not be listening to Mr. Costello again.
Yawn.
1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die eh? Well death didn't come quick enough to save me from this. No stars.
He wrote that one song I guess.
Yeah nah.
This is one of the worst albums I've heard in my life.
No.
YES. GOOD.
This sucks.
This album sucks a fat one. Full offense intended.
Oh good, more middling British 60's music.
What is this a participation trophy? That sucked.
I think I would have liked this when I was younger, but now it's pretty whatever.
I had no memory of listening to this, which should tell you all you need to know.
Really? This one?
You guys can admit it's unlistenable. You're not cooler because you like this.
Belle and Sebastian is music for people who find The Smiths a little too edgy.
Sometimes in life you ask yourself, "How much worse could it get?", and then you listen to Limp Bizkit's third studio album and every day seems brighter after that.
Equal parts charming and depressing, loved it.
I'm a simple man; I see Aerosmith, I shit talk Aerosmith.
Love Wu-Tang, but most of the spin-off albums aren't great.
I guess this isn't on Spotify because it sucks?
Joni is a legend no doubt, but it feels like every two weeks is another one of her albums. We don't need to listen to her whole discog. Plus this one is pretty boring.
They ripped off Still DRE and no one talks about it. If I had a time machine I would go back and stop Grizzly Bear from forming, because had they not released this album, humanity may have been spared from the onslaught of, "Stomp, clap, HEY" bands that followed. I threw up in my mouth just writing that. No stars.
Between Iron Butterfly and The Doors, who ripped off who? The answer? Who cares.
No.
I don't want to listen to Bruce Springsteen anymore.
Oh good, more British music no one cares about now and didn't care about then.
I would have loved this in high school.
If the Beach Boys grew ironic hipster mustaches and took themselves way too seriously.
You know when you can tell what it's going to sound like by the cover? Yeah, this.
I hate to be predictable, but this really is a 5 star album.
Not the biggest Pac fan, but I get it. Much better than most of his releases.
Tracy Chapman, but from Temu.com.
Some of that good junkie Nick Cave.
Not much of a trombone guy
More boring British electronic. You can spot these albums a mile away.
I'm not cool enough to like this
I see why I skipped this before.
I will not listen to Morrissey.
Kings of Poo-Town more like.
Blunder indeed.
Some of the most self-indulgent non-sense I've ever heard. Some of it shows promise, but it's longer than a movie.
Love Wu Tang, love Method Man, but this album is objectively bad
One of the worst albums I've heard from
A cultural breakthrough for sure, but why not Under Construction? It's SO much better!
If you gave this more than 1 star you obviously didn't listen to it.
"Dad, can we get some Beyoncé?" "We have Beyoncé at home!" The Beyoncé at home
2 bangers off the top and then filler. Classic rock album to the core.
Bad. Bad, not good. OH that's where they got the name from.
Unlistenable.
I don't care for live albums typically, and this one is no different, but it does make me want to listen to more Cheap Trick, so I guess it worked?
Cool until he starts singing and he sings a lot.
Like if Zeppelin sucked and also had a flute player that sucked.
Straight up nostalgia rating here
Front loaded with bangers the not much else
Too similar to The Smith's to be considered listenable
One of the only albums I didn't manage to push through. -5
Mescalin must have been so fun in the 90's.
This list doesn't need the entire catalogue of the combined Garfunkel and/or Simon. Christ.
Opening up recording technology to the masses was a mistake
Like Coldplay if it was good. I don't think it's good, but if Coldplay was good, this is what it would be.
Just because you're British doesn't mean you belong on this list
Anything but the good.
I just can't do live albums.
I like shitty music but this just sucked.
Just because your name is Elvis, doesn't mean you should make music.
Why do I love this so much?
In an album where Bruce Springsteen does his best Bob Dylan impressions, it's about as good as you might expect. Which is to say, not very.
I get why people like Kate Bush
Incredibly strong start, weak finish. Sounds like me.
Blur is rubbish.
Close but you're way off. This is mixed and produced very poorly, with some very good ideas lost in the chaos.
Some children shouldn't be encouraged to follow their dreams.
This must be all over, "Expensive Looking Hotel Lobby" playlists
I love seeing what nerds have to say about Slayer. 666/5
Listen to this on a good system. Some hard skips for sure (anytime he sings) but some very cool production.
Not a real saint.
I had a girlfriend who liked Pere Ubu. She was pretty mean to me. That should have been my first red flag.
This is my fifth album from Elvis Costello. I can't stand Elvis Costello. Why does the author love Elvis Costello so much? Fuck Elvis Costello.
Ella's a gem but I am not listening to FIVE discs
Like if Beck was as bad as he seemed on paper
This sucks.
Laaaaaame.
Why are we celebrating an album about statutory rape? Do better.
To those people who think this is good, your music taste sucks, just no one has ever told you.
Hotel music for people who don't like hotel music.
I didn't realize that Eric Clapton has always sucked
They must have been so mad when they heard The Beatles for the first time. WWWWWWOOWEWEWWWW
Was this supposed to be good? I might have got the wrong album.
Kid fiddlin is pretty wack.
