The Strokes
2/5
I'm in the minority here for sure but... what's the appeal here? Tonally it's quite monotonous. Sonically, nothing new. Lyrically, hard to tell. The vocals are mixed so far back and the slight distortion on them makes the words just blend into the rest of the instrumentation.
Pretty meh. I recognize a few of the tracks, but that doesn't mean they're good, just that they're played on the radio.

It's probably my western biases, but I can't really differentiate between all the songs on this album and when I say songs, I mean 10+ minute solos.
I thought it was very cool how he explains the differences between western music and the Hindustani that he was playing.
I'll listen to this again, for sure.

I truly do not understand the hype behind Prince. Amazing performer no doubt, but the music is pretty cookie cutter 80's pop.
My two favourite tracks were Computer Blue and Baby I'm a Star, the least Prince sounding tracks on the album. I think I just don't like Prince.

Good? Ehhhhh... and I say this as a Dre fan. Listening to it critically in 2023, this isn't really a good album. There's very little Dre, all the tracks are about the same thing (that's kinda just gangster rap though) and like big dicks or whatever.
The production does all the heavy lifting on this album. It still sounds great and reminds me of the golden era of hip hop.

Some of the worst, self indulgent crap I've ever heard. The worst part, is that sonically this album sounds FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. There are a smattering of good ideas in there too, they just forgot to put them together in any kind of meaningful way.
Plus it's a stupid album name, with an arguably as stupid band name. Would give zero if I could.
