Bit boring to me.
love sinatra but this one doesn’t have a lot of depth
I found it very dissonant. Almost like he was either too slow or too fast for the band supporting him. The lyrics sounded shoehorned to me. The strongest sentiment it stirred in me was humour when I heard Makin' Whoopee...
Sinatra's answer to this new-fangled "rock 'n' roll" thing! Not my bag, Baby.
Listening to his inflection is quite illuminating- I picture Frankie acting like he’s a god and to be honest girls across America were brainwashed to thinking he was and so it goes. The one long song is good white noise but Frankie can’t make women who know better swoon . . .
solid and exactly what'd you expect
There’s no denying the greatness of Frank. A voice you could pick out anywhere. Not my particular favorite, but still good.
I can recognize the talent; he does have a great singing voice. But, this is not for me.
not my cuppa
It’s a classic but it’s not for me
2 and a half.
Song For Swingin’ Lovers says a lot - dated. Makin’ Whoopee says it all! Frank had some staying’ power, as familiar with this one (which is the best song on the album) and also Pennies From Heaven even though they’re from 70 years ago. (1.9*s) Just doesn’t hold up.
This is definitely closer to the Frank Sinatra music that I'm more familiar with and appreciate. I prefer Sinatra with some big band accompaniment belting out a jaunty tune far more than a slowed down romance ballad. I recognized a couple of these from Swingin' Lovers and had about as much fun as I expected which only lasts so long. A couple songs every now and then are a fun reminder of what music used to be. Some of the hits hold up OK but its still something I'd quickly move on from otherwise. Sinatra is a legend and maintains his reputation even if its not close to my heart in any way. 1.99 stars
Love is here to stay 🔥 Making Whoopie 👎🏽
It's a'ight
There is a smugness to Sinatra that I can't get over. It's incredibly easy listening but it's also cheesy and slimy in a way that I don't like at all.
I get that he has a nice voice. I get that this is groovy and relaxing. I get that for its time this was PEAK. But the world evolved, WE evolved, MUSIC evolved, so I don’t have to pretend I adore this just because it was incredible when it was released. It's not BAD per se, but I wouldn't listen to any song on here again, let alone the whole album. I can’t even imagine living in a time with such limited music options. Like, you’re telling me that on top of having NO Wi-Fi, NO shawarma, NO rights, NO FUCKING ANYTHING, because only straight white men deserved the good stuff, THIS is all I could’ve listened to? No thank you.
alright, js more frank sinatra stuff
Gayyyyy. 1.8
Frank has good songs but they seemed to miss this album. Maybe I'm just not a fan of the standards. The first track is the only thing that saved it from being rated a 1
classic romantic songs
My first Sinatra record and this was exactly what I expected from him. Sinatra sure can croon and the instrumentation is lush, but I found myself wishing for this to wrap up. All the songs sound similar and there is no variety. This felt dated and of its time. Compared to the rock and roll records coming out around this time, this has no edge to it whatsoever. Not for me.
Not my jam, but it wasn't unpleasant either.
Not my bag baby
френ легенда. но не мое. хорошо на фон
90/1001 First listen. About what I expected. Honestly, I liked “I’ve got you under my skin” with Bono better. 4/10
i guess i just don’t get it because im not a swingin lover
You will never be a youngin "Every time it rains, it rains" Deep lyrics, love them Trash, but listenable
He was a good singer but he didnt make any good songs. Johnny Cash mogs
Maybe if I had a martini and a cigarette. Maybe...
ol’ blue balls… i mean, eyes… blue ball eyes… ol’ blue eyeballs not a fan
What’s “whoopee”?
Why did I listen to this whole album? WHY?!?! WHY COULDN’T IT HAVE BEEN CHET BAKER???!!!???😩 The arrangements and performances of the backing band saved it (barely) for me, but you could smell the smug, douche baggery of Frank oozing out of the speakers and ruining a perfectly good album and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. This era of American pop music was so lame. Why couldn’t he have sung “Pink Pony Club”?
I gotta admit, Sinatra is kinda overrated imo. Like no, it's not bad music, but I wouldn't listen to it as my first choice. He's super influential in the grand scheme, but it's just nothing special, it's all so same-y. So sue me. Top: We'll Be Together Again Not Top: Makin' Whoopee
Not my vibe, sorry.
Rating: 5/10 Feel like this doesn’t deserve a 2 even though I don’t want to give it a 3 either, it’s a perfectly fine listen that I continually didn’t necessarily want to finish as I got closer to the end. Just good and pleasant enough and doesn’t stir too much in me besides Track 1. Probably underrating it but that’s just my opinion
Very pleasant, listenable, classy and another one of those albums from well before my era that I'm pleased to have heard, despite it not being "my thing". It absolutely merits its inclusion here, but I'm highly unlikely to ever reach for it again.
Solid Frank - but nothing stands out
Fine
Never liked Sinatra. I don't hate Sinatra. This changed neither opinion. It all sounded the same.
Look, I don't like swing music, so I'm starting at a biased point here... But... Gah, the lyrics are toss, they're sung really slowly which gives you time to guess what crap nonsense they'll say next, and you're often right. There are some nice basslines. I suspect that the tunes are fairly nice, but it's all so slow I'm too busy getting bored of it to care. I just don't get it. I can see it works in a film where you need someone to explain a plotline in songform as it's slow and everyone can understand it and the bloke singing can do so somewhat effortlessly and probably wear a suit and hit on some women or something, but outside of a film I don't get it. It just feels like exposition. Then he started talking about "making whoopie". Christ.
Je suis bien incapable de trouver un morceau qui sort du lot, j'ai eu l'impression d'écouter la même chanson pendant une heure. Mais ce n’est pas désagréable à écouter.
Franky boy is always great to hear. But albums of his did not work that well for me. Despite all the songs been absolutely well put together and sounding great there is nothing stuck or at least there a no favorites on the album. It kinda lost me. When Spotify already switched to another album of his I didn't even notice.
The voice is still the voice but I don't like these arrangements.
pleasant but a bit boring, i couldn‘t tell the songs apart at all it all pretty much sounded the same
Repetitive for sure, good singing and lots of trumpets. Not really my taste. Favourite song I've Got You Under My Skin it has a great instrumental bit.
Hard to stay awake to this while listening on my morning commute. Every song sounds the same (as Ben mentioned). Reminds me of the crappy music you hear on New Year’s Eve in time square. Didn’t like. zzzzzzz
It's just not that interesting
I somehow have heard every one of these songs, but never listened to the album. It's a bit repetitive and didn't capture my attention. I was listening while working and didn't realize the first song started playing again. It was fun to try to figure out which movie or tv show I'd heard the song in, but I wouldn't listen again.
I like me some Big Band, but this didn't really hit. I think it's just a bit too shmultzy? Also pretty much every Sinatra song sounds the same, which isn't a problem when it's one in a playlist, but it's a bit much for a whole album. Neat that it's the first ever UK #1 album though, that's a cool fact
Rarely in the mood for Sinatra
Sehr vibey und vor allem weihnachtlich. Vielleicht etwas für ein Weihnachtsessen.
Smooth songs and Sinatra has an incredible voice, but it's always going to be a chore for me to fully appreciate a record like this that isn't my cup of tea and runs for 40+ minutes.
Quite cheerful but definitely not my thing.
I tried, just not my thing
Still don't really care for Sinatra in full album form like this. One or two songs at once is cool, but it gets so samey
I just can't get into this.
Not a fan of frank
It's... fine.
Most of these songs sound the same
Im not swingin nor a lover
OK, but not my taste in music
This one expired a few years ago, no longer fresh, just a bit stale. They banged this album out in one day, all the horns & orchestration are identical and vocal delivery is blueprint Sinatra. I don't hear any reason this is on the T1001 list. I just can't imagine that being the hip new album everyone is talking about, it seems like 200 years ago and people were wearing powdered wigs & triangle hats. I threw in the towel after Track 9, I simply couldn't take any more. One or two songs over an evening but 15 in a row? That's what they do at Guantanamo. 2 Stars.
The entire album sounds like one old good love song. Legendary voice of Frank Sinatra cannot be mistaken. Unfortunately, this kind of music is outdated for me and I can’t really enjoy it.
Its probably not Sinatra's fault that by this point his songs have been in a million shitty movies but they sound so bland and commercial to me. And he's an a-hole.
I kinda understand the popularity of Sinatra, but it still seems weird. He was making albums like this when no one else was. Still, I don’t love his voice, phrasing, etc. Some good songs here, but still, only a 2. This came out when I was 9 months old…
Quaint
Kadett, Pegnitz - Hof, Deutschland. Wenige Banger.
Don’t get me wrong I love you Frank but this album felt like a Christmas album without any of the Christmas. Every song was sort of the same. Favorite Track: Old Devil Moon
Pretty boring for me, a great singer for sure but I'm going to go with a 2
This is better as a relic than an actual listening experience. The music…. is fine, its samey, overly sentimental and Frank’s crooning gets boring after a while. However, if you treat this album as a piece of history on taste of people in the 1950s I think this album becomes more interesting, however it still doesn’t make it special. I could have chosen any Frank album for that same experience. It also doesn’t function as a wholistic history like Ella’s songbook series which is infinitely more interesting. Tl;dr you can skip this one 2/5
I can enjoy some frank Sinatra every now and again. But a full album of it just blends together and drags
I constantly felt like it's Christmas and that was not the vibe. Didn't finish it.
אין שום דבר מיוחד באלבומים האלו של פרנק סינטרה פרט לכריזמה ולאנרגיה ולקול שלו אבל לפחןת זה ממש נוסטלגי
Another Frank Sinatra album! I can appreciate his importance and his wonderful voice, but I still struggle to really enjoy listening to him. Still, I gave Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! a go. The whole album just reminds me of Christmas, somehow. I’m not a swing fan, but I do love a good love song—so I should love Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! I just don’t. On the plus side, Frank sounds at his very best here. What a voice—though I’m hardly saying anything new. The problem is that I simply don’t enjoy swing, and after a while all the songs start to sound the same. It becomes a bit repetitive and, honestly, a little boring. Favourite track: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” is a lovely song, although I actually prefer the Frankie Valli version. “You Make Me Feel So Young” is also great. Least favourite track: The rest of the album feels too samey. You can’t deny the songs are beautiful and sung perfectly, but after three or four tracks, it all starts to blend together. This album isn’t really for me, although I can appreciate its quality. Album artwork: A standard album cover for the time—simple and classic.
Hmm depends on the mood I’m in. Today found gross & cringe. Another day maybe cute & nostalgic 🤷🏼♀️
The most Gentleman's 3 to ever 3. 2.5 Editing window update: This is a 2. I got to bored to finish it.
not to my taste, felt very outdated and songs sounded the same for the most part but respect him as an artist
Not finished listening but it is so fucking old and so fucking white it's embarasssing
Too outdated for me, alas.
Reading about Frank Sinatra’s life is more interesting than listening to his music. I found the whole album to be dull.
Meh
The only way I knew a new song started is because they all started the same way
Good for this type of music but just not for me
Sounds like another Sinatra album. My friend Kurt loved him when we were teenagers, oddly.
Worth a listen and it has a certain feel to it which is quite nice. Not something I need, but I enjoyed listening to it. 2/5 stars.
This album is a well done steak and all you have is a butter knife, but then again given the title I'm not sure if I should even be listening to this. 2.5
The backing band had some good tunes. I never understood Frank Sinatra and still I don't think I understand his appeal. The only thing I can think of is he sounds like a guy trying to sing, there was a mass brainwashing to popularize his songs so regular guys could sing them to their girls and sound just like Sinatra. I really don't understand it.

I don’t care for Sinatra, would be open to non-Sinatra swing from this list. Riddle the real MVP
Old
I wanted to enjoy this, but the whole big band sound with this happy lovesong vibe is just super uninteresting to me. Even though the songs were short they felt long to me. I enjoyed Sinatra's style on "In The Small Wee Hours" much more Standouts - 2/5
Sinatra's not my thing.
I think I prefer sad, In The Wee Small Hours Frank. This is relentless swing and theatrical winks, and everything song sounds the same. The piano tinkles, Sinatra twinkles, and it’s smooth, but I can’t be doing with choral brass sections. The lovers can swing away, but I’ll stick to drinking bourbon in smoky bars with sad Frank.
It's just not for me.
2 begrudging stars for fumbling Frank.
Just rolled my eyes so hard I did a backflip
sandwidge
Just not a fan. If I want big band, I ain't going to Frank as my first choice, I will tell you that for free.
I know I'm in the minority, but I can't stand Frank Sinatra's bum ass. This whole era of croonerism is absolute dog shit. "But It was a vibe, man"... the greatest generation? My ass. This MFer was "selling a mood" and not doing jack shit with the form, just sleepwalking his way through talking a song just keeping those musical boundaries up and refusing to break through anything... how the FUCK was this dude seen as "cool" and "rebellious" at the time it's a crock of utter shit, puffing his chest like he's some kind of bonafide outlaw when really he was a sleazy rich guy who drank too much and bailed on his contracts, meanwhile you had ACTUAL rebellion in Chuck Barry who was creating rock n roll and Little Richard tearing up the stage, man fuuuuuck this guy
Dated and predictable. I might have a different opinion if I was 80. Pairs well with eating cabbage and visiting grandma.
Well, I guess there's a first for everything. Never ever listened to a whole album of Sinatra, and I don't think I will ever do again. But, in the right mood and on the right time, like on a sunny Sunday morning, it isn't that bad. But still, prefer the space age orchestras from the late 50's and early sixties a lot more than these crooner ballads which sound pretty much all the same. 2/5
Ne znam, Sinatra mi je oduvijek dosadan. Kao kužim, sve pet, samo ono, šta da dam ovdje 🥲 2/5, 4/10
I audibly groaned when this popped up. With the standard caveat that Sinatra's an icon yada yada, this does very little for me. I was just relieved that it's only 45 minutes.
I was surprised that I did not hate this as much as I thought I would. It would seem that it was a best of type album as it covered most of the Sinatra songs that I had previously heard. It was okay as background but I couldn’t have listened to it as the only thing.
I'm more partial to "sad" Sinatra, but I really love this. These songs still sound fresh. Not in their style, but the quality of music and singing is timeless. The music has real dynamics to it. Parts are softer, parts are louder, it’s nice. Standout Track(s): You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me, I’ve Got You Under My Skin
2.5, just not my thing
It's perfectly fine as background music. Inoffensive, just not very engaging. Most of these tracks sound the same. I'd actually much rather listen to Dean or Sammy D.
What a horny album. Is this what people in the 50s listened to in the club to get them all frisky? Who knew you could use the exact same idea for every single song on an album. It’s not unlistenable, but the constant love obsession starts to grate quickly.
Inoffensive and I'll never listen to it again
Sure it might be a re-working of old standards. And while I can appreciate the significance of that, this just bored me. Definitely nothing I would choose to put on and listen to. It could be good background music for a boring dinner party that I would hate to be at.
Sounds just like how you think it would.
soundtrack to a world ready for rock and roll.
Oh boy, that cat is too much
All the songs you've heard before. Just what you'd expect.
More Jazz, some of his songs are ok and very popular but I just ain't a fan
Rating: 4/10 Nah.
Bit disappoting. Been disappointed by Frank on this list. Feels like its missing a banger or 3. Voice is good, but feels like a bit safe and samey
5/10 back in january
I shouldn’t have listened to this while in such a “love is dead” mood.
While the occasional song about love is fine, this isn't for me. Do I just not like crooners?
Straight up did not like this album. I like Sinatra but all fo these songs were saccharine and cringy to listen to. Product of the times and they did not age well at all
Love Sinatra with all my heart, but this particular piece doesn't jingle my bells :)
There’s not a lot you can say, it’s Frank Sinatra. Amazing how many of these songs are embedded in my head despite never having deliberately gone out to find them before.
OK jesus christ we get it, you're in love
This is a decent album with solid performances, but I find Sinatra hard to take in large doses like this. It's all uniformly uptempo and chirpy, and it lacks variety and emotional nuance (to illustrate, the algorithm is now serving me "It Was a Very Good Year" from another album, and it's a reminder that Sinatra did, in fact, have some range). I'd much rather listen to the versions of these songs offered by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn, both of whom add much more feel to the American songbook than Ol' Blue Eyes.
I like Sinatra well enough in small doses. But I can't do a full album. It's just way too much big-band orchestra and, as iconic as Sinatra is, he really is a one-note kinda artist.
Music for people who have never cared to experience the agony and bliss of giving the self in love, nor have ever truly lost anything in the attempt.
Pleasant and boring.
It literally says what it is on the tin.
Fine background easy listening. At work.
Too much of a samey thing don’t get the fondness for this.
ehĥhhh
No....fuck this crooning horseshit. Broadway/NY in the 50's must have sucked ass. Cole Porter's original version of Anything Goes is miles better than Sinatra's version. Favorite songs: Anything Goes, You Make Me Feel So Young, Too Marvelous for Words Least favorite songs: Swingin' Down the Lane, Makin' Whoopee 2/5
I appreciate how Sinatra became a legend, the innocenct innocuous undertones and usic style just isnt me. Making woopie though.
lol at this title. Language truly is malleable and ever-evolving. My prior that Frank Sinatra is fine but generally boring remains. Such dulcet singing for such limited payoff. The lyrics are pretty shallow, the vocals are as conventional as they can be. This album feels really long because all of the songs are roughly the same. 2.5 rounding down. Every time I was listening to this I'd be like "okay that was fine", then I'd check and it was only half over. How can a 45 minute album feel so long?!?
I don't understand Frank Sinatra's reputation as a charismatic singer when "Makin' Whoopee" has so much negative rizz.
Not for me
I really do love Frank Sinatra, but this album just sucked. I did not really care for most of these songs. Frank's always got a great delivery but when most of this just goes in one ear and out the other it doesn't matter. And this is not because I just got dumped a few months ago because even before that I didn't like this album. Couple good tunes kept this from a 1
Nelson Riddle's arrangements on this album are utterly hyperactive, with horns and strings cartoonishly jumping out in every direction, *seemingly* trying their hardest to steal the spotlight from Ol' Blue Eyes. Two things prevent this: one, Sinatra's voice is squarely up front in the mix, and two, he sings with absolute confidence and control. Lesser voices might have been overwhelmed by the barrage of instruments, but Sinatra is completely in charge. Even though most of the songs on this album are from the 30's and 40's, Sinatra's delivery is thoroughly timeless. What detracts from the whole enterprise though, is the ridiculous, gimmicky (and horribly dated) big band accompaniment which renders this album both tedious and exhausting to listen to.
I like some Sinatra albums; yes, he's a great singer. no, these upbeat orchestral pop tunes nothing for me. his more melancholy stuff hits harder. this is OK.
Gillar inte riktigt swing. Inte min grej
2.5
Felt ready for a change of album by the end. 2.5 really
It started off nice enough, and then it just kept on going on and on. It does turn out that I only like Sinatra's voice in small doses.
All the songs are the same. I didn't know any song on this record. But the iconic voice makes it better to listen.
Tiktok låtar, mid
Absolute snoozefest. Not denying sinatras vocal ability, but every song is the exact same and the chord progressions are painfully predictable. I guess you have to be a swing lover who also knows what it feels like to be loved in order to enjoy this. I guess I wouldn’t mind it as background music at a party/date, but that’s about it
not for me
I don’t mind Sinatra generally but this album didn’t do anything for me.
Man is great and his sound is great, but album isn't. After fifth song it felt absolut repeat of itself.
Perhaps it's too old for my taste. Nothing here stands out. All the tracks feel and sound the same
Just not that into it
I really don’t understand how people like this
downloaded 2&9 only. trumpets man. could listen again and again though would need to be dancing or doing something else besides listening to every song with headphones . dare i say his album is background music 😔
3/10
What's to say, it's Sinatra. Classic big band with crooning. Not really my cup of tea, most tracks sound the same to me.. Best track - Anything Goes
heeft de tand des tijds niet goed doorstaan... the ole blue eyes are closed!
All these songs sound the same to me. Great voice, simple music.
What lead paint does to an mf
Not for me. These songs have been ruined by all the x factor hopefuls thinking they are as good as Sinatra
Swingin' from the gallows, maybe... OK, it's not THAT bad, but I can only take so much big band and ol' blue eyes... Furthermore, this can't possibly be the best Frank has to offer, so I don't know what this album is doing on this list... make room for something better...
joa, Franky swingin
honestly he botched pennies from heaven
Pretty disappointed with this one. Didn’t do much for me at all.
I have listened before and it is fine Sinatra music and I will rarely turn to it.
Cant stand it
I remember kissing Frank right on the lips on the vegas part of Houmous & Chutneys world tour. It was like kissing a wet ash tray. Horrible. Len grimaced and said ‘good to see you’re still a bit too samey Frank’ 2.1
Sinatra is not my thing. It's me, not Frank. I appreciate his songs when they pop up but I don't own any Sinatra albums.
I found myself tapping my feet and singing along but after about 5 tracks it began to sound the same. On it's release in 1956 swing had been around for a while so it's hardly ground breaking and was about to be blown away by rock n roll. Pleasant enough but I won't listen again
Enjoyable on the whole but did get a bit samey after the first couple of tracks. Enjoyed when the big band was unleashed more than anything else. Favourite tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young Probably not one to revisit. 2/5
When I started this I thought "oh, this isn't as boring as I expected", but then it went on, and on, and on with the same shit, feeling much longer than its 44 minute runtime. Most songs were just okay, but the mediocre cover of Pennies From Heaven was disappointing, and I really didn't like Makin' Whoopee.
White Nah just like... this is bgm that only white people liked in the 40s/50s. Saying this as a white dude. Great performances I'd say, but so forgettable. I can't remember anything about it other than how similar it was to everything else on it. Historically significant tho. I guess I'm not a swingin' lover. Damn.
Sinatra's greatest sin remains the largely indistinguishable number of auditions of America's Got Talent for which his legacy is responsible.
Helt trevligt att lyssna på i bakgrunden men allt låter ganska lika. Fantastisk röst
This music is so ubiquitous to me. I feel like it's the soundtrack to a million scenes in a million shows. It's just music for the background to me. Harmless.
Ja i mean elk nummer klinkt hetzelfde maar is wel lache een keer te luisteren 2,5/5
Review for Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! is Frank Sinatra at his most polished and charismatic, crooning his way through a collection of timeless standards with the lush support of Nelson Riddle’s orchestration. Released in 1956, it’s a hallmark of the easy-listening genre, with tracks like “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Pennies from Heaven” defining Sinatra’s swingin’ persona. But let’s be honest: if you strip away the classy veneer, this album is basically Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” for people who were 20 years old in 1956. Think about it—this was the soundtrack for a generation looking to sip martinis, put on their best suits, and charm their way into someone’s heart (and maybe a little more). While Trent Reznor’s version of seduction is all moody aggression and whispered promises of destruction, Sinatra’s is all winks, finger guns, and velvety smoothness. It’s the same game, just with a better haircut and less eyeliner. For those new to Sinatra, this album offers a great introduction, embodying his charm and the golden age of crooning. But for listeners who want more variety or emotional depth, it may come off as background music—great for washing dishes or hosting a dinner party but unlikely to leave a lasting impression. 3/5.. just middle of the road swing that's just inoffensive and classic but not going to listen to this again of my own free will
Feels like I'm listening to one long song, it's a fine song but there is very little going on here. Fine background music I suppose. 2.5*
Rarely do the songs let that great voice fly - instead it's replaced with a sort of club singer inflection and hackneyed big band parping. Even the ballad here 'We'll Be Together Again', seems very pedestrian by comparison to something like 'I Get Along Without You Very Well' from Wee Small Hours. And the recording on Small Hours was excellent - Frank was singing next to your ear - this often feels a bit lost in the big band mêlée.
Not for me
Initial thoughts: *heavy sigh* everyone is supposed to like Sinatra for some reason, but I do not. Ok, so, it sounds like Frank Sinatra. Like, who gives a shit? It’s fine, I suppose, for what it is. But honestly, you could convince me that Sinatra had one album, and this is it, because every song sounds like every Sinatra song I’ve ever heard. And here’s a mini rant: yesterday was Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite and it’s sitting at a 2.98 rating. Because this is Sinatra, I guarantee this one will be above 3.5, probably creeping towards 4. But what’s the difference in the two albums? They’re both full of love songs that are a bit sappy. They are both filled with songs that all sound a bit similar. They’re both sung by very good, very smooth singers. But this one will be ranked MUCH higher, even though it’s not as good of an album, in my opinion. I don’t know. It’s a 2.5 but I’m ranking it 2 stars because I’m a bit of a dick and I’m annoyed by what I wrote in the last paragraph. It’s time white Americans stop idolizing scumbags like Sinatra and Elvis.
Не зашло
I’ve never quite understood the appeal of old blue eyes and indeed the whole crooner genre. Also, swinging lovers means something very different these days
This is dire. It's so bland, so generic, it sets my teeth on edge. The man had a decent voice, though. 2 stars for musical ability and good voice.
Bahbahbahdeebeh song tiiiitleeee
Very of it's time. A bit is enough
Too many songs that blend in together, not the worst I guess if what you want is music to set the mood to a place but I think if that's all of Frank's appeal then I have no much reason to hear his version of vocal jazz/swing, especially if most of it runs in the same sound/vibe/moods. I guess songs like Pennies from Heaven is the exception by being more distinct but how distict I couldn't tell you frankly (hah)
I went through a Sinatra period, but TBH these days it only really works as background music for me.
I've just finished to listen to it and... I can't really remember it. It was OK as background, it sounded familiar, but nothing too memorable for me. Really not my jam.
Поёт хорошо, но резкие звуки духовых инструментов сильно режут уши
Another Frank Sinatra album. Exactly as expected, but lacks any of his really big hits. I think this is the third Sinatra album so far? Definitely one of those artists who is overrepresented. Make room for some weirder albums, make me listen to stuff I have never heard of! Don't give me the same pablum reheated again and again!
Frank was cookin with track 1, but the rest is a little too old timey for me. Like buddy is talkin about “making Whoopi” what are we doing. Smooth talker tho, he says things well, well spoken fella. Slicker than a can a paint.
There is some Sinatra I love, but this isn’t it. This to me is big band schmatlz at its finest. Nothing for me to grab into really, but pleasant enough.
Very smooth. I can imagine really liking one of these tracks if I'd hear it on the radio or a playlist in between other things. But a dozen or so of these slick orchestral cheese balls in a row is a bit much.
Day 58 - Oct 28, 2024 M-M-M-M MID!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2.5/5
I didn't really get into this.
This is a bit hard to review. Obviously he's a fantastic singer, and every individual song on this is great, but the album as a whole is a slog to get through since there is no variety whatsoever and the songs are very simple. The production is also showing it's age since all the instruments other than vocals sound very thin and tinny, like they're recorded from another room.

Italian Mom music. Idk man maybe I’m just hearing this at the wrong time in my life, but this music makes my depression infinitely worse. Coming home to the wife and kids with dinner cooked POV. I’ve always just had this feeling that Sinatra is one of the more overrated artists of all time, but I’ll probably die alone on that boat. Oh well. Rip.
Zzzzz
Det her ligger SÅ langt fra min smag. Sange er umulige at adskille. De lyder ens. Ja jo han syger da godt. Men jeg keder mig. Det er for pænt og nydeligt
eh
Not my thing, but easy enough to have in the background. Might have been a 3 if the songs didn't all sound pretty much the same and Whoopee wasn't there at all.
All sounds the same
It's fine but it's just so boring to me.
It was just ok
Gay algunas canciones que no me gustan nada
more like a 2.5. Great voice and some iconic songs in here but as an album i find it quite dull
unfortunately i fell asleep listening to this. my toxic trait is this just makes me think of christmas music.
It’s alright, most songs were okay. my favorites are: You Make Me Feel So Young, How About You?, and Makin’ Whoopee.
My idea of hell is sitting in the back seat while my father drove, smoked cigars and listened to this guy and his fellow crooners. Just no.
..
Sinatra. Dull
Same old story, same old song and dance, my friend
Ahh, the songs my grandparents fell in love to. Maybe all art is made specifically for its time and going back to experience old art is pointless. Maybe we shouldn’t go to museums to look at the Mona Lisa and should instead just watch TikTok videos. Maybe the whole idea of art having timeless qualities is a delusion. Maybe all art is equally good, it’s just that some appeals to more people at the time it’s made than others, but no matter what, all of it should be tossed as soon as a new generation comes along so they can make their own art for themselves. I don’t know. I guess people read “The Odyssey” for a long time and seemed to be okay with it. All I know is that this is just old people music to me. I guess it’s okay for what it is. But I don’t want to listen to old people music. I’m only in my early-late 40’s. I still want to rock! When are we going to get a Billy Joel album?!
Tommy Pischedda : Excuse me... are you reading "Yes I Can"? Limo Groupie : Yeah, have you read it? Tommy Pischedda : Yeah, by Sammy Davis, Jr.? Limo Groupie : Yeah. Tommy Pischedda : You know what the title of that book should be? "Yes, I Can If Frank Sinatra Says It's OK". 'Cause Frank calls the shots for all of those guys. Did you get to the part yet where uh... Sammy is coming out of the Copa... it's about 3 o'clock in the morning and, uh, he sees Frank? Frank's walking down Broadway by himself... [Nigel raises the limo partition] Tommy Pischedda : Fuckin' limeys. Marty DiBergi : Well, you know, they're not, uh, used to that world. Tommy Pischedda : Yeah, yeah. Marty DiBergi : You know, Frank Sinatra, it's a different world that they're in. Tommy Pischedda : You know, it's just that people like this... you know... they get all they want so they really don't understand, you know... about a life like Frank's. I mean, when you've loved and lost the way Frank has, then you, uh, you know what life's about.
Like listening to shopping mall Christmas music.
Listened to this in gym. Not the ideal soundtrack but enjoyed it more than I was expecting. Not in a rush to hear it again but can see the appeal. Felt b like I was in the fallout universe. 5/10
Initially wasn't so keen to listen to this FS album, but having it play in the background it is actually fine. Two stars, as it is unlikely I will listen to it again in future.
Plenty of familiar tunes on here. Don't think the mood will strike me to replay anytime soon though.
songs for boring losers
I thought this one would be better. The songs and arrangements just seemed mediocre to me. Pennies From Heaven and I’ve Got You Under My Skin were stronger, but not enough to give this higher than a 2.
Pleasant to listen to but uninteresting
He certainly nailed the style. Some good song writing. But the music generally doesn't do anything interesting.
# 260 : MORE BORING JAZZ! all of these songs were pretty pleasant, and I honestly can't say anything bad about it, except it seemed more like one boring 45 minute song then an album. Whatever I was doing while I was listening to this album was just a little but more enjoyable for it. If I had to pick a song : I've Got You Under My Skin
Don’t like frank Sumatra’s voice didn’t even listen
All due respect but this plays like children's music nowadays. Plus, anyone else hear a strong influence on The Doors' Jim Morrison?
important album but it's time has passed
Believe everyone enjoy some Frank Sinatra from time to time. If not during christmas and new year, then some of these numbers on a early summer day is very nice. Not much of difference in between the songs - except for You make me feel so good and I've got you under my skin are outstanding tracks. Otherwise a bit too long making finishing the listening a bit boring. 2/5
boomer slop 2/5
I think a lot of people feel like they need to like this just because it's old. And don't get me wrong, it is definitely important to have at least a little bit of appreciation for classic music, even if it isn't to ones taste, but old music definitely doesn't equate good music. And I must admit, I didn't really enjoy this album that much. It didn't initially repulse me, but it was certainly nothing special. There is very little that makes each song unique, and by the time I was half way through, I just wanted it to be over, since there just wasn't anything about it that I found interesting anymore.
If someone was to list the pros & cons of living the swinger lifestyle, this would be on the cons list.
This really didn't keep my attention at all. Sinatra is just someone I'll never be a huge fan of, as much as I respect his talent and style, and this album didn't have anything that caught my ear like some of the tracks on Wee Small Hours. Not something I'll ever choose to listen to again I'm afraid.
Pleasantly enjoyable. The music is so tight. Well crafted. Sounds so easy, but it's so well done. I heard my father crooning along in my memories, r called him moving in his beslippered, arthritic yet graceful way, demonstrating how he danced in dance halls to fresh this faced young Sinatra chap. 2 stars. A worthy member of this list, but not likely to be a repeat contribution to my playlists. Thanks Frank, I'll listen again when I want a rich dose of nostalgia.
There is an episode of Frasier where the sons find out Marty wrote songs and sent them to Sinatra. They sounded very similar to all of the songs on this album which makes sense because there must have been a formula for big band music. Still, didn’t mind listening to this one - made my 40 minute commute enjoyable.
Meh 2
All the sounded the same. Franks voice is truly magical but there was no variety.
It’s fine. He has a great voice, I definitely love some of his performances, but as an album it isn’t super interesting front to back. Individual hit tracks from Frank are fun, but I don’t find him compelling in this way.
I mean yeah it's a Frank Sinatra swing album. It's nice, good vocals and shit but in 2024 is this really something I'm loving? Nah. Fav songs: - You Make Me Feel So Young - Love Here is to Stay
Je reconnais les qualités mais un peu trop crooner à mon goût.
Not the biggest fan of this style. Sinatra's voice is obviously great to listen to but every song sounds the same.
Not my jam, but beautiful voice.
Not my bag of tea... it's fine I guess?
4.5/10
Before listening: I only know two Sinatra songs and you can probably guess which ones. I'll say it - I don't get Sinatra. What the hell is the big deal? What makes him so goddam famous? Perhaps it's because I'm listening to this nearly 70 years later but you know what, I listen to Elvis and Buddy Holly, and I like them. I'll see how this goes but it reckon I'm gonna be bored shitless. After listening: Yep, I still don't get it and I'm gonna leave that to the fact that this music is just far too old for me. That being said, I found myself humming some of the songs all goddam day, so I guess that must count for something. In terms of enjoyment, this should get 0 stars. However, I was humming all day so I'll add an extra star. And then, just for the fact that it's Frank Sinatra, I'll add another star. This is far more respect than I gave Slade.
The kind of music you'd hear at a shitty american restaurant that claims to serve authentic Italian food... much like the food at said restaurants, this album is incredibly bland. frankie gets an extra star for being talented and I suppose unoffensive and bad is better than offensive and bad
It's not bad music, it just does nothing for me. It all starts to blend together outside of a few standouts
This one is exactly what you thought it was. Everything sounds like different versions of the same song. . Boring and predictable but it has a weird Olive Garden/Wedding sentimentality to it. My Italian grandfather liked this style of music so I thought of him while listening to it. There are some of Sinatra's best songs on this album however including "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Pennies From Heaven" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" so you can reminisce about watching movies in the 80s/90s when it seemed like picking one of these songs for the soundtrack was a requirement. Otherwise, it's a skip and totally played out. 2.5/5
If there are going to be like 5 more Sinatra albums on this list, I am going to lose my mind. I'm done listening to this crooner. He has an amazing voice, but as for listening in the year of our lord 2024, it really doesn't feel important or like a 'must listen.'
Did not connect with this one. I found it annoying, but I can easily see why he was a big star. He was the man for his time and place.
nahhhhhh, doesnt hit the spot
Easy listening in the car
Not my favourite style. Still classic artist though
Close your ears grandma, I am not really a fan.
Swing, 1956, soft+flott -> 2
Great voice and all but…this streak is Over done. “You/You’re” in half the titles is telling. Next.
The more cultured I am, the less I find myself drawn to Sinatra.
Sinatra has a distinctive sound, but all his songs sound mostly the same. Decent album, but its never been much my style.
I'm just not a huge fan of Sinatra. I can see why it's here, but it's not for me. 2/5
Not a fan. Never understood the plaudits.
Wer Swing mag...
Frank: doo-we-doo-wop it's the 1950s and I'm making whoopee with lots beautiful women A bunch of horns: WAH WA WOMP
2.46 per track. Fine for background music.
The soundtrack to depressing microwaved ravioli and cloying sentimentality. Musically, this genre for me is primarily associated with Looney Toons and the vocals with comedians using the style as a way to do bits. So its hard to take seriously as real pop and I expected to hate this, but it was better than I thought - there's plenty of swinging big band stuff with energetic horn parts and dynamic bass/piano interplay that makes up for the occasional plodding schmaltzy orchestral ballad. The vocals arent exactly my thing but he is a masterful performer oozing cool confidence and control. The melodic phrasing always has some little surprise like a downward resolution running against the grain or an unexpected modulation.
Everyone loves Frank Sinatra and he's great. Obviously this is something from the earliest days of an album being an album, but it is so one note. Great crooning swinging songs that certainly just blend together and sit in the background.
I'm not a big Frank Sinatra guy
Several songs I knew. Reminds me of Kurt Cobain and also Palm Desert. I hope Sinatra was a good guy. Will look into that.
Sinatra war nie mein Fall
I recognize the significance of the album...but not for me. Would have loved it if I was 40 years old and living in the 1950s.
The man can sing... but I just don't feel anything when I listen to him.
Easy-going, well-made, but a little boring. I'm not sure whether or how this stands out from Sinatra's other albums, but it didn't exactly wow me. The shtick just gets a little old for me, despite his obvious talent as a performer. Rating 2.5/5 Favourite tracks: It Happened in Monterrey
Haven't finished it yet, a few songs sure but 50 mins is trying
Cringe. Making whoppie?
The production of the album is top notch considering it was made in 1956. Sinatra was talented as was the band playing behind him, but I really dislike this superficial swing music and also that it's so repetitive musically.
The only Sinatra songs I listen to are Christmas ones. The album is okay but it gives me Olive Garden vibes. I wouldn't opt to listen to this on my own.
Not bad. Not the kind of thing I’d choose to listen to.
My first reaction was simply: No thanks. But after giving "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" a spin my studied reaction is: Okay, but only in very small doses.
Jake is not a Sinatra fan. I'm more indifferent. This is the kind of music I would play is someone said, "hey, play some music, but I don't want to actually listen to it. I just need some happy shit to play in the background while I wash dishes. Oh, and make it the most whitebread, inoffensive music you can find" This is what I would play.
alright
I can understand why this style of singing - crooning - was big in the 50s, but there's no emotion and it's boring. Of course I'm familiar with the songs because this sort of music was always in the background when I was a child, until it was displaced by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, et al.
Lame. Zero edge or energy. This record makes me thankful that the year it was released is the same year that rock 'n' roll came along.
Boring. Again, the most overrated of the crooners ever. If he wasn’t mob connected, career would have gone nowhere
Was OK, nothing really special.
It just didn’t do much for me. Some good songs but it feels so focused on the vocals, which are good, that the rest of the music doesn’t really do much interesting stuff.
Allt í lagi. Ol' blue eyes er ekki alltaf minn.
I know my wife would love this album. Unfortunately, I'm the one who had to listen. Just not a fan of this guy or any of his music. I mean it's OK, but after about the 2nd or 3rd song, I need to check if it's the same song or a new one. Just seem to be a run of one long song with minimal variations to style or sound. There is a positive though. I found myself thinking about my wife while this playing and that always make me smile. I love that girl so much. Back to this dude. I'll give a 2. It wasn't offensive or downright terrible. Just nothing that excited me or made me want to revisit. 2
Honestly, kind of annoying.
Too old for me. Unrelatable
I know what this is going to be and there's plenty of other music that I want to listen to. It's fine, one song here and there is good, but no more than that and definitely not a full album
Liked it better than I thought
some good tracks but gets repetitive
