Recognized shout and everybody want to rule the world. Interesting mix of atmospheric/spacey with pop and a bit of rock, but generally a bit slow

Never listened to a tears for fears album before. I know their hits and I'm generally not a fan so wasn't expecting to enjoy this. Very 80s, and not the kind that i enjoy Shout and everybody wants to rule the world don't do it for me. I can leave the rest of the album too. However, I think head over heels is a great track. By far the best thing about this album. Head over heels aside, I won't be going back

The two classic songs Shout and Everybody Wants to rule the world are classics for a reason, they are just good songs catchy and synthy and have this dreamy feel. But I have heard them too much and am tired of them, do not like hearing them again. The other songs are strange and slow and have the same dreamy nature like it is a bit hazy and far away in a memory, but they lack some of the punch that especially Shout has. They pull down the album from teh already meh point of the two songs I am familiar with.

"Shout" is great, but that's it really.

Historically not a huge Tears for Fears fan. I did enjoy tracks like Head Over Heels. The bassline is satisfying and I wish it was more forward in the mix. Favorite track: Head Over Heels Least favorite: The Working Hour

Solid first half with typical 80s style but went a bit overboard and Avantgarde in the second half.

“Shout,” “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” and “Head Over Heels” seem to hold up really well? But past that, it’s all 80s cringe to match the cover photo, complete with the usual attempts to ruin the saxophone as an instrument.

I haven’t started listening to the album yet, and I have to say these dudes’ hair is amazingly horrible. It was apropos to the time and genre, which makes me fearful for what is coming. Let’s hear what happens… Shout consists of the chorus repeated repeatedly and not much else. The Working Hour is laden with extra cheesy 80s saxophone shit. Not a good start. Everybody Wants To Rule The World is really good. Let’s go!!! OOF, oof, and Oof! Head Over Heels pulls us out of the nose dive. Conclusion: the hair is apropos to the album, which is bad but not amazingly so.

I’m back in the game and will go through all the missed albums. This one started real good, but tailed off drastically. Shout and rule the world best tunes. 2.5/5, im rounding it down though.

3 great tracks surrounded by Roland Orzabal's massive ego.

Other than the 3 80’s bangers, the rest of the album just sounds like trash. Particularly, none of it flows well together and it veers between awesome to mediocre very quickly.

Only enjoyed a couple songs, but the hits are great.

Really not for me. Some iconic songs and certainly captured the sound of a period in time, but the songs don't do much for me and the focals feel forced.

The first song transported me right back to the 80's and I loved it. However I didn't know the majority of the album apart from the hits, and I cant say I would go back to it again.

This is an album with a couple of genuinely great tracks on it, unfortunately these are few and far between, tucked between the very wankiest of 80s ballads and sad white boy dirges. Donnie Darko did Tears For Fears an absolutely solid favour by using Head Over Heels in one of the most memorable scenes of the past 30 years. Without it, would we still be considering this album? I most certainly would not.

The hits are huge, but what else can be said?

Liked this better than I remembered from 30 years ago or whenever Becky had the CD. Everybody Wants to Rule the World and Head Over Heels are fine. But nothing that grabs me. Somewhere between 2 and 2.5 stars

We’ll produced, good pop singles but nothing exciting

this album is another new wave album that i didn't quite care for as part of this project. i initially considered myself a fan of new wave, but i must be picky with that genre, more than i realized. tears for fears' sound isn't bad, and they can indeed make music--but this album was underwhelming to me. a point in their favor is that it was an easy listen. but perhaps too easy, since i found myself bored.

I feel like this album is only on this list because it has both Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Otherwise, it’s just uninspired 80s pop; fun to listen to as a time capsule of what music used to be, but mostly devoid of character and innovation.

Ok so a little difficult for me, I only really enjoyed the singles and popular tracks off this album, alongside the last track 'Listen' so I probably wouldn't recommend the album nor listen to it again. Just didn't really click for me.

Don't really have much to say. I listened all the way through, but nothing really sparked my interest. Then again, maybe I was born too late to properly appreciate 80s pop rock / synth-pop. I've always had a tough time finding music from those genres to be genuinely interesting or enjoyable; to me, the singing sounds a bit like wailing and the accompaniment makes me think of the bridge of the Enterprise.

This album shows Tears For Fears were more than a one-hit wonder, but it's also very self-indulgent and corny at times. Still, as a cohesive piece of work, it's decent.

strange album, was going to give it a high score after first 3 songs, then found the rest almost unlistenable. Shout and Rule the world are fantastic, the rest really not so much.

One can classify this music as new wave pop. This is one of those 'nostalgic 80's albums' that lives up the hype. This album is perfect for a brooding or emotional evening, where one just wants to shut out the world.

Pretty bad

When the album first came out, radio was inundated with so much airplay for Tears For Fears I hated this record. Overexposure on radio and music video does translate to huge record sales, but it also pisses off music fans that know there is lots of other music that should be heard. Listening now, the music does have a nostalgic effect, but I am quick to wake up and put on my turntable much better music from the period that gives me a good feeling instead of a feeling of being stuck in an era and decade that produced a lot of crap!

Not a huge fan of 80's music.. and this album didn't change that. The album had some good beats but honestly it was very forgettable to me..

Outside of the huge singles, this LP struggles to find an identity for itself. The leading tracks all have strong personalities with their defined guitar or synth hooks, but the meandering quality of the rest derail any kind of overall cohesion.

Not for me; couple of cracking tunes but the rest is a dirge I’m afraid. Will almost certainly never listen to again.

I enjoy the initial parts of each individual song, but I find the rest of the songs when the lyrics kick in to be totally uninteresting. I knew a few songs beforehand, but none of them are very great.

Definitely not my cup of tea... Second song sounds like the opening to every 80's family sitcom. Some classics on here (Shout, Everybody wants to rule the world), but not ones I'm particularly a fan of. Actively skipped through songs and turned the music down...

Started out great, and I was really enjoying it, but it gets more experimental as it goes on and I eventually had to turn it off. Still some excellent tracks on here that I’m glad I found.

The hits hit... hard. The Working Hour and Broken I like in the context of the album, but I just can't get into Mothers Talk, I Believe, nor Listen. I Believe and Listen so much so that it takes me out from the rest of the album.

I hated this when it came out and I still hate it. Fuck these guys.

I only knew "Shout" and "Everybody wants..." from back in the days, when it was on every radio station. I wasn’t interested then so I never cared about the rest of the album. It was probably a wise decision, because I would have hated it with a passion. I’m a bit more indulgent now... I’ll admit the two main hits aged surprisingly well, something that cannot often be said of 80s pop. As for the rest... it’s still not my kind of music. I don’t hate it... but as often with 80s slow pop, it mostly leaves me utterly bored. I’d rate it a 1,5* for the two main hits, but that’s about it. I'll admit it's completely personal though, I don't really have anything bad to say about the band.

This is the 167th album I’m rating. I feel like this is going to be shit based off of the album cover. Probably another shitty British album. Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Not Adding to my Playlist - Shout, The Working Hour, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Mothers Talk, I Believe, Broken, Head Over Heels, and Listen. Shout - This album topped the Billboard charts? Fiona Apple never did that and frankly her worst song is much better than this. The Working Hour - Damn I didn't know there was a saxophone. Not that good but still. Some great sax. Everybody Wants to Rule the Word - I didn't know this was by Tears for Fears. This song is so shit. I wish they never made it. All in all I liked 0/8 songs. Yeah this is pretty shit.

Outside of a couple decent songs (Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World) that we all know & tolerate this album is pretty dull, had a hard time getting through it but I did. I don't need to hear this band ever again.

I've always had negative prejudices towards this kind of 80s band. But in this list, I've listened to some albums that blew me away. So when I started this album, it was like, "Uhm... it's not that different to Violator, this will be great!". But no! This is utter crap, bland and extremely cheesy, lacking all the darkness that Depeche Mode could have. Also, the song writing is not good. If this was #1 in the billboards is for a reason: it sucks.

Very 80's I could feel the hair. Over all great listening will do it again. Even recognized some of the songs so nice to know where they came from
