Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Apart from a couple of well known songs, this album is really...terrible. The lyrics are garbage, music is uninventive, his bad singing is just bad - no charm, no personality. I remain convinced that the only reason people like Lou Reed's music is because for some reason it seems cool to like Lou Reed's music.

2/5. Insanely highly rated (average of 3.67 on this site as of April 2026) for how unimpressive the compositions are. Bowie produces it well enough but no amount of polish will make a dull rock shine. He's able to transform some of Reed's songs into worthwhile listens, but the majority of this album is hippie catnip. I like to imagine that people were constantly chasing the high of listening to "Blonde on Blonde" the first time and look at this album through skewed lenses, identifying some of the same superficial traits that the albums share but failing to recognize there's a stark difference in musical and lyrical quality. It's so strange to see people call the lyrics out as being good when artists like Reed were playing in the shadow of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Townes van Zandt. Not worth another listen.

My favourite song was hanging around may have been different if I hadn't heard walk on the wild side in so many ads. I can see how some may have been inspired by it but it just felt too disjointed and I couldn't get Into many of the songs.

Dude just picks a random woman and then talk about her on every song. Boring ahh

Rock pretty boring tho

Not for me.

I'm starting to question what "great" music is...

Nothing really special in my opinion

I just don’t really care for his voice.

not bad

While there were good moments on the album, I just found it mostly boring.

This wasn't as bad as I was expecting based on what I have heard about Lou Reed. I really enjoyed the song Perfect Day. It's clear he is a gifted songwriter but I just don't love the way many of these songs are performed. Most of it is clever and funny and ahead of its time in concept but just not super enjoyable to listen to.

I can see why I've only heard one song previously

Glam rock isn’t my thing. Satellite of Love is my highlight

Not for me. it’s got the right tones yet the man vocalist is just a little too soft for my tastes.

not for me, some good moments but i do think the musicality of an album is quite important to my enjoyment of an album, and this is maybe more freeform than i’d prefer shall i say

Talk-singing ramblings that sound like a high-school pick me theater kid, wild side still a banger tho

One good song

Flick the bean on the wild side

Don’t really like it not my style. The lyrics are weird and not enjoyable it has that corny band kid vibe almost. Not a fan of songs where people just kinda talk

25/02/2026 11h00 Não sou grande fã, mas entendo quem aprecie. Não é mau, apenas não é bem o meu estilo.

Not really my style. It is good, I like the guitar. My dad would probably listen and like. Reminds me of David Bowie in a way.

Not bad, whimsical. Not my genre but pleasant.

bit boring okay rock album, not a fan of the lyrics

OK I GUESS, JUST DOSEN'T TICKLE MY BRAIN.

Cinema to David Bowie there was a lot of cool instrumentation and production tricks (panning, hand, percussion, etc.), but I don't much care for this style of singing. (Talk-singing with loose adherence to pitch) I was surprised how similar Lou Reed's music sounds to the Arctic Monkeys; it seems the former inspired the latter. 5/10

bro kinda sucks

Don't like his vocals, instrumentals aren't anything exceptional for the most part. Satellite of Love and Perfect Day redeem it a little.

Vicious was alright because it was familiar. Some were decent but some also sounded like they belonged on Barney or some other kids show. Walk on the Wild Side would probably also be kinda boring if it wasn't for the fact that I grew up hearing it, so that wasn't bad.

Not the biggest fan here. I've no problems with it from a production standpoint but it's just not doing anything for me in any other way. I'm disappointed, I wanted to like it more.

0/11 bekannt 5/10 Beste Songs: perfect day, New York telephone conversation, vicious

Was familiar with “Perfect Day” and “Walk on the Wild Side” I feel like walk on the wild side is trying to say something but I can’t quite grasp the point on one listen back to back. Overall, I felt the album was tonally inconsistent with some very slow and uninteresting features. Not my cup of tea. Music-history wise - I’ve heard this album mentioned as a milestone of sorts, but it’s not that captivating in 2026. Think I’ve heard better stuff involving Lou Reed; someone mentioned Velvet Underground which rings a bell.

favs: perfect day satellite of love wagon wheel goodnight ladies rating 2.5/5

yappasaurus rex!!!!!

it kinda has some weird sounds that remind me of a circus

Eh mid

There’s something in Perfect Day, but not enough — or not quite, at least not for me. Maybe this glam rock album isn’t for me, and that’s it. The same happens to me with the track Walk on the Wild Side: I needed more, and less of some decisions (tbh, it kind of won me over at the end with the sax, because I’m a whore).

Pleasant sounds and typical of 70’s for me, meh overall with a few soulful moments.

It was okay

Pretty unique and quite diverse from what I'm used to.

enjoyed the first half more than the second. felt at times like i was listening to the wiggles. 2.5/5

Again, not my cup of tea

I can appreciate the progressive nature of some of the subjects explored in this album, but it is not nice to listen to musically.

Demasiadas expectativas

it's not a bad album, but it's missing something...

Approaching this from a critical standpoint is tough for me because holy shit I hate the way Lou Reed sounds SO much. Ultimately there’s are some great instrumental performances over this album and a couple iconic songs but every time he opens his mouth I wanna kill myself. I also just ultimately don’t think this is doing anything even remotely near the other content coming out at this point. While I appreciate the inspiration he was in the more outsider music land, I cannot get down with this shit.

Has some good songs on it, but feels like it's a little bit too uninterested in doing much. Lou Reed's delivery is almost apathetic, but the songs don't seem to intend on evoking apathy but instead entertain. Something they are to a degree. For being glam rock, this is pretty un-glamorous.

vocals are not up to the music

The only song I like it was Goodnight ladies..

baya sıktı bayaa

Nothing happening musically, maybe the lyrics are interesting but they weren't interesting enough to make me go check.

Kind of boring.

vicious is groovy vibes!!!! i liked the repetition of the quick strumming guitar. i enjoyed the percussion. the lyricism is meh but easy to listen to. "when i watch you coming i just have to run" so real i relate andys chest is cute i like all the calls to nature. lyrics sort of random like wtf is he saying just spit balling random jizz. just looked in the credits and david bowie is credited as a producer? was i supposed to know this? perfect day chorus SLAPS i was expecting myself to be bored and yawning while i read the lyrics, but the beat drop was beautiful. him singing about his "perfect day" yet sounding so miserable is so me. the chorus definitely sounds produced by david bowie so this makes sense. especially mixed with the absolute BANGER keys and band. ending was a tad mid but overall i enjoyed. hangin' round is how i feel about all of my friends (half serious) (heh...) def a groovy jizzy beat. i was tapping my foot along with the music. i find the tones of instruments to be very interesting and unique i really like how they compliment his voice! (is lou reed a band or a single person? or both?) i really really like how the chorus is intertwined with the story that is being told it is very fun. i have noticed that his outros are somewhat weak; either fade outs or just him repeating words. walk on the wild side "shaved her legs and then he was a she" doo doo doo dooo dooo doooo the doo doos seemed a lil weird at first but soon became enjoyable. i like the song and story, however not something i see myself listening to regularly. a very mellow song. yeah i think this is my least favorite, maybe it was inspiring or ambitious for its time but i didn't love it. & again, weak outro. alright HOW is this is most successful. make up this is def what lana del ray was referring to when talking about lou reed. i think maybe its a little fun? idk gives me a weird vibe. i really hate the brass instruments. yes lou we ARE coming out!!!!!! satellite of love i ALSO like to watch things on tv. maybe i am too critical, but his lyricism is just poor and difficult to enjoy. i enjoy his voice and production, but half the time i don't understand what the hell he is trying to say. it just sounds like hes trying to get out words in order to call it a song. baby you can come up with better than this!!!! the lyrics ended 2 minutes in and the second half of the song just repeated the same lyrics. bruhhhhhh. ok snaps i enjoy the new. okay trumpets play for me now! i SWEAR I JUST HEARD BOWIE. OKAY THIS IS FUNNBNNNNNN!!!!!!!! SATELLITEEEEEEEEEE OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i liked the second half SO MUCH MORE than the first. wagon wheel i dont like the heavenly father part. it threw me off. maybe i am stupid. what does it mean to be a wagon wheel. i dont like the ending either. i dont like the song alright i made up my mind. new york telephone conversation i thought that lou reed was rock i am sofuckingconfused. this song sounds like something that count olaf and the two old lady twins would sing to the baudelaire children. genuinely HOW did bowie produce this. im so free okay this is funner...... not sold yet though. yeah yeah alright i get it ur so free yada yada yada goodnight ladies i am so so so sorry i know he is seen to be a legend, but i just don't enjoy his lyrics!!!!!! I am BORED! the ladies have LEFT!!!!! Stop saying Goodnight. alriight i am sick of this album.

Let’s be real: Lou Reed can’t sing. Created some interesting songs, but not enough to elevate him to the level of Bob Dylan. Just ok in my opinion. Culturally significant, musically insignificant.

It’s okay.

Rating : 5/10 - Chill music - More so “Talking-Singing” - Best song : “Vicious” - Nothing crazy, more so a mid-tempo-story time-album.

definitely an interesting opener. interesting. track 2 was boring. i wouldnt listen to it unless im listening to the album in full. track 3 is a masterpiece. i also had fun listening to track 4 but after some time it got repetitive. still i really good track. i think that im not a big fun of the way he sings. i would like a bit more passion in the vocals. track 5 is genuinely horrible. track 6 is better, but i still dont like the lyrics, the main melody and it needed to be more fast. track 7 is again a masterpiece. shouldve been a little faster but i dont mind it at all. i loved track 8. track 9 was sweet. not too much to say because its just 1min30 but its good overall. track 10 was also good. not really what you consider a masterpiece but i liked it. last track was genuinely boring. i have a tendancy to not consider the first and last track as a song, and these are the ones that make me like or hate an album. these made me hate the album even more. i would give it a 3 out of 10, but ill say a 5 because of the nice songs. mid

There were a handful of tracks that I liked but the record as a whole wasn’t my favourite. I was expecting to love this due to David Bowie’s influence and because I really like the Velvet Underground but it fell short of my expectations :( Favourite: Hangin’ Round

Not a fan.

Side 1 is pretty good, if overplayed on the airways, but not much to say about side 2. Not my favourite Lou Reed album

remembered David Bowie while listening, but despite all of that it was hard. lyrics is fine tho, but still

I dunno, I guess it wasn't that bad. I recognized one song, though I never thought it was a very good song. And there was definitely some weird stuff in there. Ok so maybe it was kinda bad.

A little monotonous Enjoyed Vicious and Perfect Day, but the rest I could skip

Dull. Felt like a story told over music. Not my thing. It was chill tho. Nice at times. Enjoyed Vicious and Satellite of Love.

ok mas não é meu estilo

Mais um álbum que não fede nem cheira. Senti um pouco de falta de personalidade. Melhor do álbum: "Vicious". Pior do álbum: "Make Up".

sorrrry

2/5 aika yhdentekevää musisointia, vaikka sanat jepa

..this is the great Lou Reed? Guy has the lyrical ability of a 7 year old and the glam rock isn't anything special. It's not actively bad to listen to, but it sure as hell ain't good. Perfect Day is excellent however.

I think unfortunately I’m still not there to love this as an album, stars for the arguably best bari sax solo ever on the pop charts

Wasn't really a fan. Liked: Perfect Day Satellite of Love

Album is fine, not as bad as the previous couple. It clearly is a contemporary of Bowie (produced by him actually) and as somebody who doesn't enjoy much Bowie... not a fan. Walk on the Wild Side the only real song that catches my attention, which is why this is a 2 star.

Andys Chest- 1/5 Perfect Day- Very cute yet sad song 3/5 Hangin' Round- 2/5 Walk On The Wild Side- 1/5 Make Up- 1/5 bro what Satellite Of Love- 2/5 Wagon Wheel- 2/5 New York Telephone Conversation- 2/5 Im So Free- 2/5 I don't really care to listen to the rest...

A bit boring for my style, but I get the target audience who would enjoy a more vocal, chill album. 2.3/5

Wild thing was the only reason I didn't give this 1 star.

alright - it sucks. i can't believe it. Wild Side and Satellite of Love so effortlessly and entirely outpace every other profoundly uninteresting barely written (at ALL) song on this album to a genuinely embarrassing extent. if you allow yourself to be blinded by nostalgia, you will die in the dark

I wish I could get into Lou. I think he’s fascinating and I respect the influence he’s had on music. But I just never can.

I've mentioned it before, but I don't really like Reed's voice. That came into play here during my listen. Even though it was fine as the album started out, it grew tiresome by the end. I wouldn't say this one was bad, but it just kinda got stayed the same/got worse as it went. Having started out as merely good, that didn't leave a lot to prop it up. Reed made a good solo career out of making mostly OK music. This is a prime example of that at work. Overall: 2.4/5

Eh. I didn't really enjoy this as much as I was hoping. His voice is super monitored. Like it feels like he almost isnt even singing and all the songs sound like this. Actual rating...1.5 Liked Songs: "Vicious" , "Perfect Day" , "Hangin' 'Round" , "I'm So Free"

Meh 2.5

Legendaran album, ali meni on nikad nije bio napet. Baš ono ravnina. 2/5, 4/10

Appreciate the artistry and some classics on here but I was mostly bored. Not to my taste

File under sing-songwriters that are horrible singers; next to Bob Dylan. Also: do-do-do-do-do-do... How can walking on the wild side seem so...boring?

Never really got on board

Vicious - 7 Andys chest - 6 Perfect day - 7 hangin round - 7 walk on the wild side - 8 make up - 5 satellite of love - 8 wagon wheel - 7 new york telephone conversation - 5 im so free - 6 goodnight ladies - 6

Kinda sucks kinda boring but Perfect Day is great in Trainspotting soooo 4.1/10

The songs you know are the ones worth listening too. Everything else, not so much.

It's alright, kinda sounds like that era of David Bowie, for a reason. I'd give it 2.5 if I could.

I know Lou Reed is loved and a massive musical icon but I find his voice and stlye boring and mundane. This album has two bangers, but honestly I found this album hard to listen to. The sounds and lyrics dragged on and on . Sorry Lou it’s not you it’s me

Meh couple decent songs nothing memorable outside walk on the wild side

Kind of dull and monotonous sounding… The same time I did like his voice… Explain that.

★★½

Least favorite so far. I couldn't get into it. Obviously I've heard Wild Side before but that didn't help anchor me into the rest of the songs.

2 stars This album is overrated. Lou Reed generally, to me, is an acquired taste. Some people will never really like him. I enjoy a good amount of Velvet Underground. But his solo music, of which this is pretty much all I’ve listened to, has limited appeal. While I like some of the songs, they all feel like demos in that they don’t feel fully produced and fleshed out. And I get it that perhaps it’s a stylistic choice but it doesn’t appeal to me. So while I enjoy “Walk on the Wildside” and “Vicious,” singles “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love” feel like decently written songs that aren’t as good coming out of Lou Reed’s mouth.

The instruments behind him were fine, but his voice sucks all the enjoyment out of it, becoming a bit of a borefest.

Reedin ääni ja laulutyyli on ehkä inspiroinut tuhansia muusikoita, mutta levy kokonaisuutena tuntuu lähinnä antiikkiselta kuriositeettina nykyään.

should've listened to lyrics more :wilted_rose: didnt catch me musically at all

Didn’t make it through, will revisit

This is one of my "nope, no can do" artists. Satellite of Love just makes me fondly recall Ron & Fez (particularly Fez's final broadcast.)

A few great songs but not an albums worth. Again a best of would be best.

I mean it’s really just not that good idk what else to see. It’s disjointed and there are like 2 good songs max

Novelty of his voice wears thin quickly. Some songs weren’t bad but a couple were really awful.

Lou Reed is cool and all but the second of half of this album really veers off into "goofy (in a bad way) beatles song" territory. Satellite of Love and Perfect Day are pretty good though.

Yawn. Lou Reed is overrated

Spoko, nawet mile, ale nie moj gust

Perfect Day was the only song I liked. Not a fan of the vocals but the lyrics are good.

My enjoyment of this album varies wildly song by song

Slow paced, kinda relaxing, not my style.

Okay not something I would seek out to listen to

well...I didn't like it. I'm not a big fan of his voice. however, the songwriting and the themes explored in the songs were interesting.

Not a fan.

Only one good song

One song does not an album make

This album features some really creative ideas and lyrics along with some solid vocals that should make for a pretty cohesive and strong album… But I felt like the execution came up short The mastering on this album holds up extremely well which made my listen more enjoyable but it wasn’t enough for me to find any songs that I truly connected with I think this is one of those albums where I want to be more objective with how I rate it but I just can’t get past my personal feelings here Sorry :( Favorites: None Honorable Mentions: None

I realise this has been out since 1972 and I've no context of the music scene of the year of my birth, but still this kind of music sounds quite generic pop/rock to me, lyrical themes notwithstanding. I've heard many of the songs on this album quite a few times and remember thinking why are these played so much. I feel like a lot of the things on this record are slight reinterpretations of things done in the previous and current generation of music, just put into another context and that's it. I'm not saying that is good or bad, but at this point Black Sabbath was up to releasing "Vol. 4" fer fux sake and had created a whole new music genre.

It's got three good songs, and you probably know which ones they are. The rest is pretty terrible.

Surprisingly uninteresting outside of the two major hits. For an album that was influential on glam rock, there isn’t a lot of rocking here outside of a few songs.

Unique voice, and songs.

Średnie. Nic nie zapada w pamięć. 2/5, bo jedną piosenkę zapisałem.

2.5 - Not bad

ts was cheeks nigga was just describing the surroundings

Songs like Hangin' 'Round and New York Telephone Conversation take me out completely. Lyrics and musicality completely eye roll inducing. Other songs, like Walk On the Wild Side and I'm So Free are fun enough, if not a little simplistic. If I was a teenager in America in the 70s I'm sure I would have a great deal of respect for this album, but I wasn't and I don't.

Not really my jam.

I enjoyed listening to this, but can't imagine myself coming back to it often. Highlights: Andy's Chest, Walk on the Wild Side

Not a fan, sounds kind boring, do not care for the singers voice

Includes multiple classics I've heard but never knew the artist of. Well written lyrics touching on a number of progressive topics including gender and sexuality paired with solid instrumentals (addendum, there's a couple real weak songs in a latter parts of the album). Held back by singing that sounds like Karaoke.

i feel guilty for the low rating as the lyrics are great but it's just boring listen

Rating (1-5): ✩✩ Will I be listening to this again: Nope What do I like about it: I thought it was boring What I dislike about it: I need more energy bruv. Also don't really like the sound of the singers voice :( Higlighted songs: Goodnight Ladies (Instruments)

Other than “Walk on the Wild Side” I hate all the songs on this album. It sounds like Lou was high and drunk when he wrote these songs. They’re so annoying

I think this is a 5/10 record for me and maybe it will grow - I didn't connect to some of the tracks here and though I do like Satellite of Love and some of the music hall stuff it wasn't enough for me at first listen.

It takes me a while to warm up to Lou reeds purposely bad singing. Walk on the wild side is great, the front half of the album is better than the back half but the song writing is there to justify it on the list. I can see how it’s influenced a lot but it’s not really for me

Vicious - Meh Andy's Chest - Meh Perfect Day - 10/10 Hanging round - haat dat dit zo na Perfect day komt Walk on the Wild Side - Nice Make up - Ok Satellite of love - Nice, kende ik nog niet Wagon wheel - Ok Intermezzo Im so free - Ok Goodbye ladies - cute

Feel like im taking crazy pills. Its just not good, idc that it was influential. The best thing that came from this album is a song that isn’t even on it.

I know why i only know perfect day and Walk in the wild Side. Too old sounding for Me maybe If i was born 40 years before

What drugs was he on when making this? Some of the most insane lyrics

I really didn't like this. Walk on the Wild Side is good, but the rest is just Lou Reed sounding like a mediocre high school band lead singer.

Mid vocals, like speak-singing. Doesn’t really match the funky instrumentals. Simultaneously calm and energetic. Some weird lyrics. Feels like a fever dream musical.

Overall, just boring. Nothing to complain about, but nothing I enjoyed either.

I do and don’t understand why this is so popular

Nah, I’ve had enough of Lou Reed throughout this project. Not my kinda music. Walk On The Wild Side was the only saving grace, but only out of familiarity.

Obviously 'Perfect Day' and 'Walk on the Wild Side' are the standouts - I just don't get Lou Reed. Kinda boring, influential, sure but boring.

Annoying. Satellite of love innocent though.

I don’t get Lou reed, sure the album has some charm but that is all Bowies production, clearly I’m missing something

Lou reed is some strange music

“Walk on the Wild Side” and “Perfect Day” are great songs. The rest of this album sounds like demos for a musical about living in New York in the early 70’s that never got made because it was too precious even for musicals about living in New York in the early 70’s.

Opening song gave me blue balls for the rest of the album.

Music-7/10. Can really hear Bowies influence. Singing-1/10. Jesus christ

This feels like it was provocative in the 70s. And important for some reasons that I don’t understand.

1972, Walk on the wild side. Song style like Bob Dylan. Talking some kind of weird story half heartedly. Not very interesting to me.

Somehow he managed to make rock n roll boring.

Sort of poetic story telling put to music kind of thing. Not bad but probably not something I am going to want to listen to again. I can see the appeal though, it's kind of cool.

I do not like this album because it is boring. I do not relate to the lyrics.

wtf was this…

never got into lou reed, although i will admit that i do like “walk on the wild side”. the guy can’t really sing and he tries to be profound and really isn’t.

I like Lou Reed and there's some good tracks on here but it's real fame comes from Bowie as producer. The last half tapers off, especially downhill after "Satellite of Love"which gets a bit too waltzy but is still decent. "Wagon Wheel" is also decent but I don't like the pop shop girls in the background. "NY Telephone Convo" and "Goodnight Ladies" are the weak links but altogether they're not bad enough to cancel out "Perfect Day" so it's a 2.45 for me.

Apart from the classic "Walk on the Wild Side," this is a mixed bag album of some decent supporter tracks and some complete floppers. What is "Andy's Chest"? No mention of a chest and was just a random babbler track with lame content. Nose toes, bare bears, and bats a swoopin? Bad. Couple other slapped together ones to fill an album. Must have felt so moronic to record some of these in a studio with professional equipment. This album makes the list cause Bowie likes it and the hookers in drag. Expected a bit more from Lou but he's a weirdo so you get this...1.7.

2 for Wild Side

Recognized one song. Mostly okay

I don't think I'll ever really get into Lou Reed... There's nothing I can 'objectively' say against the quality of these songs, they just don't strike a chord with me. I do appreciate the inclusiveness of some of these lyrics, especially given the time of release. I'm glad Tribe got a great sample out of Wild Side, but that's about it for me.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this was pretty boring. It's pretty musically stale, and it might be pretty scandalous lyrically, but half a century later, it's unremarkable.

I genuinely wonder who listens to this and doesn't fall asleep three songs in.

Warum finden auf dieser Website die Leute alles geil was David Bowie anfasst? Es geht an mir vorbei. New York Telephone Conversation war ein Graus. 2 Sterne, David Bowie kann mir gestohlen bleiben

Reed’s singing really brings this down. He sounds bored and uninspired, singing in a low range that doesn’t suit him. Like a broken man just going through the motions. And maybe he is. It’s a far cry from his work in Velvet Underground. Basically two different singers, and this is the worse of the two.

Liked the songs that I’ve heard before, but didn’t love the rest of the album.

Was ok

Why is this considered good? Honestly do not get it. Perfect day is a quality song but the rest is diminishing returns. The tail end is woeful. 2.5*

I've heard some stuff from the velvet underground before so I came into this album expecting a lot more than I got. The beats felt lazy and boring, the vocals were nothing special and the lyrics were awful. I was waiting for the album to start for its entire runtime.

I know "Perfect Day" because of the Puhskinti Day 2019 song and I first heard "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" through a health insurance commercial. I have been introduced to this album in the worst possible way twice without knowing it. There's a good reason why I, the perpetually blind to any music released before the 90s know these songs and it's because they're pretty good on all fronts - they're pleasing and unique in both a clever and understated way. There's a major drop off for me in the other songs, though. They're equally weak on an instrumental, lyrical and vocal level, and the entire album felt like it dragged it's heels despite their being some better-than-average songs on it.

The 3 is SOLEY for the song Walk on the Wild Side which is one of the greatest tunes ever made. Other than that, this album really has nothing that special

On my initially listen I thought I liked the album. But after listening to it again I realised I only like a couple of the songs and the rest were not for me. I don't know if I like Lou Reed that much.

It's OK. Lou Reed is massive and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. he doesn't have a good voice, and musically, this album is just kind of bland. Songs like New York Telephone Conversation are just confusing. It sounds like something that would be on an album for toddlers, and I mean that literally, not as a joke or a slight. I don't know, man. It's not dreadful, I guess?

perfect day is great but some other songs were pretty strange

I didn’t dislike this as much as I thought I would, but I don’t get Lou Reed.

Me not like

A good reminder that I actually know more Lou Reed songs than I thought, but not really a thing I need more of. It's fine, I guess.

Lou..... Reed..... solo..... album..... and this is s'posed to be his good one. Some classics for sure but...... I'll take his Hudson River Wind Meditations.

The good points of this album are great, but I'm not sure that they are enough to lift this above some of the cheese here to make this to a truly great album, one that I'd go back to. At least for me, it's more likely that I'll keep songs like Perfect Day and Walk on the Wild Side on general playlists and leave much of the rest as forgettable. There are a couple hidden gems--Vicious perhaps, Hanging Around and Andy's Chest. Others like Satellite of Love are flawed, while Wagon Wheel, Goodnight Ladies, and NY Phone are straight cheese. In fact, if this were a five song EP that ended at Walk on the Wild Side, it would have been a much better product.

None of what I like about Lou Reed shows up on this disk and much of what I dislike about David Bowie does. At times it comes off as Lou Reed trying to be sunny - a bit grotesque. The whole thing cries out for some Cowboy Junkies or Velvet Underground.

Perfect Day is the only song that I really liked out of the whole album, but I have never been a huge fan of Lou Reed to begin with. Walk on the Wild Side also OK, but in general the album is not for me.

it was halfway good classic rock.

A pretty lazy Bowie impression. I know Reed came first but… he’s just coasting on the success of his awful band. Perfect Day obviously a banger but done better by almost everyone who has covered it. The rest? Boring.

I know, I know, sacrilege! But I always thought Lou Reed was totally over-rated. This does not convince me otherwise.

Mid- fairly boring

There wasn't much that I liked about this. The vocals are weak, the guitars were fine but that couldn't save this.

I loved parts of it and couldn’t stand other parts of it. There was more I didn’t like then did like. I’d probably give it a 2.5

i really wanted to love this album but i couldn’t get into it

What an icon. But a bit too much poetry reading for me. Most of these songs sung by different singers sound really amazing. Proof the writing is really good.

David Bowie has to have one of the worst production catalogues I’ve ever seen (see Stooges). This is not quit that bad, but it’s definitely not great

Reed's got better. Walk On The Wild Side is a GENERATIONAL hit. But so much of the rest is just navel-gazing filler. Out of the context of his uneven career, its forgettable as a statement.

This album started promising, but felt tiring as it went on. I like the social message, but I don't care for the music itself.

Felt thrown together.

Lame, boring

{Vicious} <3/10> Not really my style. Not entirely fond of the vocals. Neutral on the guitar chords. All in all, It's a pretty boring song. {Andy's Chest} <2/10> Still not a big fan of the vocals. First part of the song sounds like he's trying not to wake his parents up. Still boring. {Perfect Day} <7.5/10> I'm a sucker for these kinds of piano chords and the soft spoken lyrics. Reminds me of when my mum used to sing me to sleep. The build up into the climax was delicious. The violins are absolutely gorgeous. Would I add it to my playlist ?? No, but I wouldn't be upset or bored if it came on the radio or smth. Kinda sounds like if Radiohead and Elvis Presley had a child. {Hangin' Round} <6/10> I wouldn't say its great, but I also wouldn't say its bad. Sounds like you'd hear it on a movie about a teen girl finding who she is, specifically the scene where she's getting ready for school. {Walk on the Wild Side} <5/10> It exists ... I don't really mind it's existence ... {Make Up} <-1000/10> Idk, but smth about him saying "slick little girl" gives me the ick. {Satellite of Love} <3/10> Pretty boring. Another [Insert generic sappy love song]. I think I'm finna cut the rating off here, this album is boring asf. I'm rating the entire album 2.1/10

His voice is emphasized in the mix, and I don't think it's that good. The whole thing is just kind of odd, and I'm not really all that impressed. The instrumentation is quirky and fun, but that doesn't really elevate the album out of its "meh"-ness. Favorite Song(s): Perfect Day

I think I like Lou better when he's weird on The Velvet Underground and Nico or White Light / White Heat than I do his more glammy and chill thing here. Don't get me wrong there was some great songs (Perfect Day, Make Up, Sattelite of Love, Walk on the Wild Side) and I love the gay subject matter he goes over but the ways the album can just be mid tempo pop rock or venture into more vaudville stuff towards the end really harmed the enjoyment of the album. Not bad but really not what I want from Lou yknow?

Okay, listen, I enjoyed one or two songs

Love TVU and I love glam rock. But this has always eluded me. Idk why it just feels so unlike the genre in how dull most of the hooks are. The hits are alright, but “perfect day” is the only song I would say is great. The rest are passable to painfully drawn out in Lou’s signature monotone crooning

Apart from Walk On The Wild Side, and I only enjoyed that through nostalgia, this album is pretty crap. Instrumentally good, lyrically it's a mad man's fever dream.

In terms of songs it sucks. It's just a guy yapping over instrumentals that range from either good to boring.

This was all over the place. Not sure i enjoyed it much

Eh this is pretty drab and boring.

pretty good album nice to have on in the background whilst occupied

Ah mano, no máximo legalzinho

Not a fan of his voice at all.

I don't understand Lou Reed. Did learn A Tribe Called Quest sampled him for arguably their best sign, so that was cool!

Hmmm. Thoroughly underwhelmed. Lyrics were clunky, his voice was a drone, and overall was disappointed. Couple of well-known stand out tracks paper over the cracks of the very, very weak bulk of album tracks

3.5/10

This was fine but unremarkable. 2.5 if I could

was fine, but nothing stood out as worth going back to. Contrary to most people's reviews, I think Bowie's touch is a negative

One great song , another that was just ok...and then a lot of trash that was not meant for human consumption. The last two songs are nails on chalkboard.

how does he make his own album sound out of tune. impressive

I know it's considered great because of the lyrics and the people involved, but purely musically, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Not my style

A strange opening to the album, not really sure how I feel about it. A Perfect Day was where I almost abandoned the album but then decided to keep going. 2.5/5 on a personal scale.

Starred off good, then it got worse

Oh, the 70’s. I usually love your music. Found this boring but others really love it, so I guess there’s someone for everything out there.

wow. lou reed. legend. I know this. I’ve heard it my entire life. I don’t get it. I don’t know if I have ever gotten it. I first heard Walk On the Wildside when Marky Mark did it and then wanted to hear the original. It was good…and then I heard the rest of the album and either felt too dumb or too smart to get it. I appreciated his work with Velvet Underground but avante garde rock apparently is not my thing. This album makes Lou Reed a One-Hit Wonder in my book, right there next to Gerardo (Rico Suave) and Vanilla Ice.

It's just totally fine. Didn't hate anything here, but didn't enjoy it either

One amazing song on an otherwise boring album

2/5 - again, I get why, but I do t like it

Gretchen, stop trying to make Lou Reed/The velvet underground happen. It’s not gonna happen.

Walk on the Wild Side is such a great song, but incredibly (embarrassingly) dated. The rest of the album was forgettable.

Sad trombone.

While I certainly know Walk On the Wild Side, I had never heard any of these songs before. While I totally appreciate his artistry, Lou Reed is just not my jam. I also have to acknowledge how absolutely ahead of his time Reed was when singing about transgender issues and homosexuality in 1972. Bowie and his lead guitarists being the producers makes a lot of sense for the music scene at the time.

Couple I recognised, didn't need a whole album

Viele bekannte alte Songs Schön zu hören aber wirkt doch etwas angestaubt

Beyond Perfect Day, Wildside, and Good Night Ladies a very forgettable album for me but those songs are good...

Boring, tedious, kinda creepy too. Mercifully short. I feel like most of the New York scene was just a big old circle jerk back then. Velvet Underground might have started something big but this isn't exactly my favorite evolution of it.

i literally hate his style of talking singing

✅ could see this growing on me a lil, a more grown up Lou Reed than Velvet Underground and Nico, without Cale to push him into weird shit and with Bowie around to push him towards pop.

The vocals throughout… ugh. Only on some emotional songs - Perfect Day; Walk on the Wildside - do they sound anything substantially more than amateurish and awkward; otherwisw they just sound perfunctory. And then from just glancing at the lyrics the writing is hardly a strength. Some fun instrumentation throughout, and outside of the two aforementioned songs Satellite of Love is pretty good, and Vicious grew on me a bit (even though it is exemplary of my issues with his vocals), but otherwise this isn’t quite it. (Though New York Telephone Conversation is some childish and stupid fun.)

Sometimes okay, mostly boring and weird.

Ehhh whatever. I liked one song in this album and it wasn't walk on the wild side . otherwise boring. I mean i get it. I guess these albums are iconic style origin artists or something but they're all shit. I would not send most of these into space and I'm kinda offended that they would be chosen on my behalf

All the songs have a very similar sound. Not super exciting for me.

The lyrics are pretty nonsensical, but not Ina fun or provacative way. Music is good, but not fun enough to spin again. The wild side song is alright, but even that was boring. Just boring.

Slow talking music, but with a bit more melody. Feel like the guy is bored as he's singing. I don't like this very much. 1/2** Lyrics are kinda meaningful or something, but also just idk I don't like them. Favorite song was "satellite of love"

Boring album held up by a few legendary tracks. If it was released today, it would be considered loser indie trash; does this make it ahead of its time?

Personligt ikke fan. Sangene ligner hinanden, ikke specielt fede sange, med dårlig instrumentation og kedelige melodier. 5/10

And another 70s rock album. What the hack! I like the simple positive lines over a more tense, complex instrumental on ‘Perfect Day’. It creates perfect tension and makes me feel like there is a deeper message. Other than that I’m not too big of a fan of this album.

Two of the album's songs are timeless and appealing.

It might have gotten a higher rating if it weren't as vaguely creepy as it was.

Ok album. Not a big fan of the vocals, but the music wasn't bad. 2.5/5

Perfect Day is 5 stars on its own

Not grea

Not for me

I wasn't looking forward going into this one as I'm not really a Lou Reed fan. I will say after listening to this that it was not as bad as I thought it would be and will likely run through it again sometime soon. It began to grow on me starting after "Walk On the Wild Side". Especially the quirkiness of the songs on the 2nd half of the album.

Pretty boring, but not actively bad

Doesn’t do anything for me

Masterful lyricist, but Jesus Christ he sounds like he is going to fall asleep on every song.

não me pegou... parado, chato, vocal que não combina com a obra. sou sem cultura por não apreciar Lou Reed? maybe! prendam-me!

Fora do meu nicho musical

Not for me

Just okay. I know Walk on the Wild Side was/is popular, but it really only registered for me because ATCQ sampled it.

Lou Reed is not a good singer but he has this atonal, stylistic quality that is kind of interesting. I wanted to give this album a 3 but multiple factors worked against it. Some of the song lyrics were stupid and pretty bad. Strings were a bad choice on one of the songs and they took me out of that listening experience. The jury's still out on the numbers using the tuba and the other horn, I don't know if they really fit the vibe of this album.

2/5. There are some good songs here but god damn, Lou Reed doesn’t even want be here singing it. It’s like lazy karaoke, just boring vocals and lyrics. There are just mostly songs by other artists that sound exactly like these songs but better: Bowie, Doors, etc. I would rather just listen to those other albums. I do like satellite and wild side but otherwise, mostly pretty bad, not wholly unlistenable.

good album, fun to listen to for the first time, but i don't think i'd listen to it again.

Weirdly theatrical in a way I didn't expect. Lyrics remind me of trot music

Lou has a really dry songwriting style. He comes off sarcastic most of the time. Walk on the Wild Side is quite beautiful. Other than that song this record doesn't do anything for me.

The instrumentation is wonderful (because it’s largely Mick Ronson of David Bowie fame), but that’s about all I enjoyed

Kinda silly.

I did not enjoy this album

Everything but Make Up was great. That one was real weird. The rest was just kind of weird. Just the one skip, but I wasn’t blown completely away.

Honestly don’t really get the hype, ok I guess

Album no. 1/1001 Not my thing. Don't like the singing voice and some songs seem a bit low-effort. Listen for the shocking lyric "she had sex in the hall"!

I like Walk on the Wildside

This album was just 40 minutes of meh. I don't really enjoy Lou Reed's music or vocal stylings.

Nothing special. No tracks particularly stood out.

It was kind of unpleasant to listen to

walk on the wild side

Other than Perfect Day, it's just not for me. I think I need more "musicianship" for want of a better word.

Its interesting for sure. The style starts to annoy me after a while though.

Alright, this album was mid, at best. The common theme I could not get passed was the spoken vocals. My favorite few songs off the album involved his vocals (Perfect Day, Satellite of Love, Wagon Wheel) The only saving graces of this album were the experimental instrumentals on each track. And, of course, I come to find out this album was produced by Bowie. Well no shit this album got attention if Bowie had a hand in it. Without Bowie's production, Reed's vocals probably would have been backed by yawn-worthy instrumentals, which in turn would have made this album dust in the wind.

Smooth, great for doing dishes

Love Lou but Nah

This album was okay. I liked only a couple of the songs and the rest were uninteresting. Favorite Song(s): "Vicious", "Walk On the Wild Side"

It's fine. Not my cup of tea.

To begin: I understand the cultural significance of this album. However, this album is proof that everyone was on acid in the 70's. It is an objectively not great album. Listen to 'New York Telephone Conversation' again, look me in the eyes and tell me this album is 5 stars. It does have it's moments. Bowie makes it shine. But that is also the problem for me; without Bowie this album would be objectively awful and not worth listening to. This album was a product of it's time I seem. I don't feel it aged well. Production is not great (but forgiven since it is the 70s), songwriting is okay, but a lot of songs sound like poetry a depressed 11th grade dropout would make. While that may resonate with those that like this album, it's like listening to emo done poorly before emo existed.

Some classics on here.

It was ok

lou reed is a BITCH

Crazy slow. Take a walk on the wild side

Standout: Satellite of Love.

I had never personally heard a Lou Reed song before this album though I knew of him. I must say, I doubt I will be familiarising myself with his discography. Some I enjoyed and some had lines that sounded like mad libs. Favourite: Satellite Of Love Least Favourite: Perfect Day

I was kinda meh about this album. Probably won't listen to again.

Can't deny Lou Reed's influence. Enjoyed the low key instrumentals but his voice is hard to listen to. Stand outs include Perfect Day and Walk on the Wild Side

Not my cup of tea; however, the success of Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day must mean something. To me the lyrics sounded forced, just for a rhyme.

Musik gut, Stimme Katastrophe

Started off strong, but the back half has some odd tracks that didn't land for me. Can definitely see why Bowie was in Lou's corner. Sound is crisp and mixing is top-tier.
