Transformer

Is this the most technically proficient album ever made? The most beautiful? Is it even that good musically? No, not really. But that doesn’t matter. I love this album for its unique NY charm and sense of detached cool, carried a lot by the awkward vocals. “Perfect Day” is the song that, for most people, rises above the rest of the tracks, but for me, it’s just part of the suite. Reed certainly had a knack for writing a melody, especially when it came to the chorus. If you haven’t yet, babe, take a walk on the wild side.

Not super impressed by the vocals...a bit too "talk singing"...but, despite some songs being way stranger than others, I can't deny that I really enjoy the style and the vibe of his music

Unimpressive vocals, odd subject matter for the lyrics, his “hits” I liked but his non-hits were big misses for me.

I liked vicious, perfect day, and wild side. But dang is this guy creepy. Definitely has a foot fetish and keeps rhyming toes with nose.

This record has a cool feel to it. I imagine it's exactly what NYC in the 70's felt like. A bit sleazy, a bit scary, a cool mystique. Lou has such an interesting voice and delivery. Hard to imitate. A classic record.

The three "hits" (read: The songs you know) are unabashed classics, which also makes this Reed's most accessible work. I'm all for Reed and the Velvets appearing on the list. I even love a few other of the album cuts on here (although a couple are an absolute snooze). This baby is a Sweet Jane away from being bumped up to 5 territory.

I've read Reed himself disdained this album at least somewhat but I love it. Wild Side, Perfect Day, I'm So Free... it's rock and roll, it's sweetness with hard edges, and queer as hell to boot. Essential.

This second album from Lou Reed is an influential piece of the glam rock genre. Most of the songs on this album have become Reed's most popular ones. I did not find this album to be moving, but it was a fun listen!

Lou is truly something else. Not a perfect album, couple fun tracks.

One of the greatest albums of all time, whimsical, fun and whilst on the surface seeming like a well packaged pop-album it takes on a range of sounds to create a unique sonic texture with masterful production from Ronson and Bowie.

Transformer for the most part is a well-balanced album...Undoubtedly, some credit can be tossed to David Bowie (producer). The album exhibits some deep cuts along with some seemingly breezier tracks. Worth a listen to, but would never be my go-to.

I would love to know what concoction of "medicine" he was on when this was written. I do like the album, and even though some of his bigger songs are on this album, I actually liked the songs 'Hangin' 'Round' and 'I'm So Free'

I found Andy's Chest to be confusing and upsetting, but otherwise this is a really nice album. Perfect Day and Wild Side are such classics that they single handedly bump it up to 4 stars. You can hear a lot of Bowie in this album. Or, maybe you can here a lot of this album in Bowie.

I know Lou Reed is a big name in '70s and '80s rock and roll, and his guitar work is pretty solid, but listening to this felt like a chore more than any of the albums so far (even Smashing Pumpkins). He sounds like he's been forced to record this and could not care much less about any of it.

A pioneer for sure - Walk on the Wild Side is an absolute staple of the early rock scene and has been influential to so many future artists. One thing worth noting is the insane variety on this album - the dissonance between the tracks is challenging and yet very entertaining. Imagine being at a live show and going from the iconic hits to the downright Sesame Street "New York Telephone Conversation." A cheery reminder that Lou Reed is all at once thoroughly rock-and-roll and also quite embracing of his Rabinowitz self. It's always fascinating to me when artists have more success as solo performers. Lou Reed's #1s will always be bigger than The Velvet Undergrounds, even if both are important to the history of rock.

Love Lou Reed. It retains some of the sound of the Velvet Underground, and features some of his best songs.

Standouts - Hangin' Round; Goodnight Ladies Some nice instrumental sections including strings and tuba Lyrics are kinda funny sometimes, but I don't know if that was intentional or not

I've never liked Lou Reed. I don't like this early 70s glam rock stuff in general. This album is no exception to either of those things. 2/5.

Fine, but really all the songs sound the same. The first song Vicious was very dancy, but they all really blended together.

Some incoming personal bias here... I've long been a fan of "Transformer", which sees Lou Reed getting his act together for the first time since leaving Velvet Underground and channelling Bowie's Ziggy-era glam rock (with Bowie and his guitarist Mick Ronson handling production duties). Bowie and Ronson's production is married perfectly to Reed's laconic delivery, to the point where I find myself singing along to a string, piano or guitar part just as often as Reed's vocal. Listen to the acoustic demos (Perfect Day and Hanging Round) and you can hear the impact Bowie and Ronson had on Reed's songs. Without the full production, the songs lack finesse, accentuation- but fully arranged, they are exquisite and often beautiful. The end result is Lou Reed at his most accessible, whether through the out-and-out glam rock of "Hangin' Round", "I'm So Free" and "Wagon Wheel", the effortlessly cool "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Andy's Chest", or the heart-aching ballads of "Perfect Day" and "Satellite of Love". The latter, one of the most plaintive and sweet songs Reed ever wrote, is my highlight on this record: its outro is sheer magic. "Make Up" and "New York Telephone Conversation" are the experiments that don't quite land, but I can't fault Reed for trying something different: at least they stretch the album's sonic mould in an unexpected way with tuba and music-hall piano. "Goodnight Ladies" is a delicious ending track, using the above to full effect for a lounging curtain call off-Broadway. The songs zip by and the whole ride is so enjoyable, so effortless, that it's hard for me to put this anywhere below "classic".

I always forget how many hook-ish songs Lou Reed wrote. Perfect Day is one of those songs. So are Wild Side and Satellite of Love. I never think I'm going to really like a Lou Reed record, but then I listen to it and I do.

Ha, yes, definitely edges out Fred Schneider as the best talking singer. I own this album, it's too hip. Not everything works, but that's often the case with a mind as original as Reed's. I'll always pick a curious failure over mediocre competence

For some reason I expected this to be much more inconsistent than it actually is. Song after song it worked for me and overall I thought it sounded excellent. Cons? No songs about Optimus Prime. False advertising, bro.

Super stuff and a worthy addition to anyone's vinyl collection. So many classics on this one. Produced by Bowie and Mick Ronson you can really hear Bowies' influence on his own influencer. Without Lou and the Velvet's their would be no Ziggy, Punk or Grunge I believe. Where so I start with favourite tracks here? "Viscious", "Perfect Day" The Jaques Brel-like "Make Up" "Walk On the Wild Side" "Satellite of Love" and "New York Telephone Conversation" are highlights for me. Definitely worthy of this list and in the top 100 I think. Love it!

I expected to like this as I'm generally a fan of the Lou Reed-fronted Velvet Underground. But I didn't. Reed's performances here are utterly boring and uninspired, the lyrics are extremely repetitive, and there's a saxophone solo (automatic one-star deduction). And then a tuba solo (there goes another star). And then there are jazz flutes... it's just an unredeemable mess, to be honest. Which is a shame because I had such high hopes.

There are a couple of duds on this album but overall it's pretty solid. Stylistically it's a little weird as it's pretty much spoken word rock and that's cool.

I'm guessing it's considered a great because of the lyrics and the people involved, but purely musically, it's an absolute borefest.

This is such a weird album. The songs that made it to the radio (perfect day, wild side, satellite) are classics and stand up today. The others are cringey are best and just flat out bad in some cases. Lou Reed is definitely a unique experience and I think you have to have a specific mindset to fully grasp it. Maybe I don’t have that. 3/5 mostly pulled by those three songs.

I actually low key loved this. Reminded me of The Strokes in 2002 (don’t @ me). Sometimes dark, very bouncy, but thoroughly fun and enjoyable. Solid as hell.

So many stunning tracks. I think I held off on Lou Teed because of the hype around how he was the start of indie… but it’s all there. The Strokes, Radiohead, Jack White… I can hear so many garage rack bands in this album. And hearing Perfect Day in its original environment (rather than the Trainspotting soundtrack) was fun. This was a LOT better than expected.

Lou Reed's 'Transformer' is one of the leaders of glam-rock. Reed's storytelling ability in his vocals is amplified by David Bowie and Mick Ronson's production, spawning what is a tidy and clean arrangement of an album. Mostly straightforward, 'Transformer' is the perfect soul snack for relaxing and laid-back listening.

Its an eclectic bunch of songs, that's hard not to enjoy. A couple songs strike me as a bit unsettled thanks to how emotionally disconnected Lou's vocals sounds from the rest of the performance. It works well for narrative songs like "Walk On the wild Side" and "New York Telephone Conversation", but feels flat on other songs like "Make Up". Where the album really connects though are songs like "Perfect Day", "Vicious" and the final third of "Satellite of Love" (made even richer by Bowie's backup vocals). Overall it's an enthralling album that crosses boundaries and sounds amazingly modern for an album that's has been our for nearly half a centry.

uhhhhh. ew. gross. literally the first song made me want to rip my ears out. then i heard the rest of the album and wanted to pull a van gogh. literally i hate this so much. the only somewhat redeeming thing was the music SOME times.

I can't definitively tell you that the Velvet Underground is the worst music I've ever heard. But I wouldn't argue against it. I'm still angry that I got 2 VU albums in one week last month so getting Lou Reed today makes for a frustrating morning - but let's go, surprise me, Lou, you jackass. I knew the big hit of course but nothing else. Fortunately the album isn't nearly as awful as the sonic sewer of VU (how could it be). The music here is just fine at best - nothing totally unlistenable [yes my bar was extremely low this morning] but also not really ever interesting. And of course now we have to talk about the vocals - I'm never going to get around the double feature of Lou's dry (and fng terrible, just 100% terrible) vocals with distractingly-weird and awful lyrics. Having said that...if you're someone who really zeroes in on unorthodox / unsettling or weird lyrics (e.g. drugs, sexuality, etc.) - I could see the appeal here on that level. For me I'm always going to connect with the music first and it's just not enjoyable. So yes - this is not anywhere close to what I like in rock music and another 1 for Lou. If he's on this list again at all let alone anytime soon I'm calling the editors. 2/10 1 star.

Pretty good for a whiney old punk.

A well-produced effort by Lou Reed with the help of Bowie. "Walk on the Wild Side" is one of my favorite songs of the decade, an artsy sound with verses covering LGBT themes, prostitution, and drugs, among others. Many songs feel bipolar, feeling sad with (seemingly) happy highlights. "Perfect Day" is the best example. I like the weird art rock tracks, and use of brass, that makes the filler stand out. My least favorite tracks are the harder glam rock tracks, like "Wagon Wheel" and "I'm So Free," but I still like the simplistic yet emotional lyrics. This is an album I frequently come back to, even if just for my favorite tracks.

Nothing I didn't like on this album, and some all time greats, namely "Perfect Day" and "Walk on the Wild Side."

I've found that pretty much anything David Bowie touched as a producer turned out to be among the best, if not the best, material that artist would ever put out. This album is no exception. Some nearly timeless and beautiful songwriting here presented with the perfect atmosphere and arrangements. Such a tight little package that still manages to cover many moods. Bowie does such a good job of sweetening Lou up without completely removing his bitter edge. Sounds effortlessly brilliant.

I have heard a few songs in isolation, but not in a while and certainly not in album form. Really like Vicious, Perfect Day, Walk On the Wild Side (most people know this one). Perfect Day was really good because Lou Reed is NOT a good singer, if it was sung by someone traditionally I would not like it nearly as much. There really isn't a bad song on here, but some I could ignore but overall a 4. Nice production as well. It might be a remaster, but if not then that's pretty impressive. Funny listening to Goodnight Ladies on an actual Saturday Night.

I only really knew 'Walk On The Wild Side' before listening to this one - and reading the Wiki, I'm not surprised that it was produced by Bowie. It feels like a dirtier, less polished Bowie/glam rock. I definitely prefer Bowie, this felt like it needed a lot more fine tuning for me. But I can see how it was key to the glam rock scene. My top pick is 'Satellite of Love'.

Wasn't a big fan of this album, unfortunately. It just didn't really appeal to me. But I did like a couple of songs - like Vicious and Walk On The Wild Side.

when I first saw my album for the day was Lou Reed I sank a little, only because when I knew of him was little and my impression was negative. How wrong was I, aside from his well known releases such as Walk on the wild side and Perfect day there are some very good tracks on this album. Andys chest is a little out there, but it does paint quite a picture if you listen to the lyrics, as does Make up, the ones I enjoyed: Satellite of love Perfect day Walk on the wild Side Given that it was released in '72 it was a brave move to talk about alternative sexuality, prostitution and cross dressing all of these things still being quite taboo subjects back then. The Bowie influence is certainly there, there were points in Make up where I didn't know if I was listening to Reed or Bowie. Given that the album is 49 years old its still got a sound that doesn't age it in the 70's

This is an album I admire than I love. Plus I remember listening when I was 15 or so which makes me feel old. It was a tape I found in a drawer and listened to on a Walkman. Really like I m so free. Bit over exposed to many of the others

I was familiar with Lou Reed to an extent, but hadn't listened to this entire album before. I was really blown away by it. Perfect Day is a perfect example of what makes Lou Reed great. On the surface it's a nice, pleasant sounding song, but there is this dark, ominous feeling that pervades it. Lou Reed lets us take a walk on the wild side just by listening to his music. I wasn't expecting to going into it, but I'm going with 5 stars for this one.

Здесь старичок ещё не совсем ушёл в троллинг нормисов своими неслушабельными опусами и даёт вполне нормального рокенролла с фирменными Ридовскими странностями. Для меня вообще звучание и атмосфера праймового Лу Рида - одни из самых близких во всей музыке, поэтому жаловаться особо и не на что. Разве что сведение подкачало чутка, инструменты тиховаты порой, и не хватает мяска, наверное глухой еблан Боуи всё запорол как обычно. По песням плюс-минус ситуация похожа на Loaded - есть и хиты, и просто годнота, есть и немного претенциозная нудятина, поэтому это не 10/10 ни в коем случае, конечно, просто хороший крепкий альбом. Даже пройдусь немного по хайлайтам: Vicious - Бодренький боевичок на вступление, конечно не так круто как Who Loves the Sun или Sunday Morning, но атмсоферу задаёт. Andy's Chest - врыв в припев годный + папапапа в конце прикольные Perfect Day - ну хули тут говорить Hangin' Round - чет хз, не понравилось, скушновато Walk On The Wild Side - ту-туру-туру угарные, особенно когда они рандомно становятся супер громкими Make Up - не запомнил тоже, необязательная песня Satellite Of Love - достойно быть хитом наравне с Perfect Day как будто, качает прям Wagon Wheel - Тоже кач, стандартный такой Рид со странными текстами New York Telephone Conversation - какая-то богемная приколюха, особо не понял I'm So Free - подпевки четкие, песня немного смешит ближе к середине. Goodnight Ladies - ну это худшая песня, лол, как обычно нашли место полную ебалу вставить. В общем и целом для меня 7/10 где-то (просто по факту, что годнотой лишь половину альбома можно назвать), но при этом эта семёрка будет повыше предыдущей восьмёрки для Rumours, т.к. Рид - комфортик.

Lou took a Walk on the Wild Side before it was hip to do so. That was one of my favorite so many years ago. Different piece of work can’t say I was impressed, just different🤔 Album cover is so boring… he should have followed his “wild Side” theme and done something way out there.

I think I remember Lou Reed being one of the greats but I can't remember. Just like I won't remember listening to this album after I'm done and more focused on the actual better albums that came out this week in 2021. Some of these were entertaining but for the most part I found him a little creepy and it wasn't just because of the album cover.

Here's a genuine classic. I've heard it before, there are some undeniable jams on here. Vicious especially, that was my big takeaway the last time I heard this. Of course, you've got Shed a Light on Love, Perfect Day from Trainspotting, and Walk on the Wild Side, infamously sampled by ATCQ on "Can I Kick It." I was really hoping I'd love this today, but the lows on here are pretty low. Songs like NY Telephone Conversation, Make Up, and Goodnight Ladies are all pretty unlistenable. Lou Reed has such a strange voice; I can look past it when the music is engaging, but when the music is weak his voice sounds even weaker. I respect this album, I think it deserves its place on here, but I can't quite bring myself to give it four stars. I just wasn't feeling it overall. Favorite tracks: Vicious, Walk on the Wild Side, Satellite of Love, Perfect Day. Album art: Absolutely iconic. I've always loved this one. So bold, such a strong cover. I really wish I enjoyed the music more because I'd love to have an album looking like THIS on vinyl. 3.5/5

The songs themselves generally sound slow and nostalgic, but the lyrics are very charged with topics such as sexuality. It's an album that I like and might listen to once or twice but not very many more than that due to the uncomfortable element of the lyrics. I really like the songs, however, and they really hit the spot on a lower energy day. Favorite track: Satellite of Love

Lou Reed just had a way of writing a great song. I don't want to get too pretentious about it, but I really like Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground. Highlights: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 11.

listening to it right now. i expected it to be a lot more similar to Walk On the Wild Side which is his one song i know off this album, and it is definitely not anything like these songs. not complaining though

'Berlin', sein drittes Solo-Album, hat mir ja überhaupt nicht gefallen, dieses hier finde ich besser, und 'Walk on the Wild Side' ist natürlich ein überragender Song. 'Perfect Day' fand ich noch nie so besonders, der Rest ist auch eher so meh bis ok.

This is the album my Dad would have made. Vicious is maybe the best first track I’ve ever heard - just in how it sets up the rest of the album. Blues, rockabilly, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, beatnick poetry - I heard it all in this one. Music a good, lyric are maybe even better. Great album

Seminal work from a rock and alternative pioneer. Reed explores New York City through the lens of a lyricist and archivist as he encapsulates the time and city, free from Velvet Underground. It is amazing how timeless all of his work is, but this stands out as among his best.

Great album from lou reed. Really pushed the boundaries for rock and roll music. Very much ushered in Glam Rock.

With the monumental Velvet Underground behind him, Lou Reed has moved on to do his own thing. A lot of these are perfectly good songs but Walk on the Wild Side is a bonafide classic. Overall though, I'm not all that impressed with the music. Around this time Bowie was doing Ziggy Stardust and that blows Transformer out the water imo. Side B is a bit more theatrical and fun than side A, but the whole product still stands on it's own.

May not have aged the best, nor is Lou Reeds voice my favorite thing on the planet. But the writing and vocals are weird, which I did enjoy quite a bit. Listened to it twice back to back. I liked it more so the second time around, especially once I got used to it.

How am I only hearing this album now? I've heard the hits, but this is fantastic. I expected VU kinda stuff. But this really good.

got berlin some time ago. first song: still dislike his voice. music is not awful but it does nothing for me. really, really want to emphasize how much i dislike his voice and monotonous delivery. on the second song now and i appreciate when he sings a little bit louder with a little more power cause at least it's giving something, can't stand his murmuring. 'walk in the wild side' is surely a song, seems like the most popular one but i can't say i've ever heard it. huh 'satellite of love' sounded familiar, there's a remix that i still hear on the radio. i do like the remix so kudos to him for providing the base for it, hopefully it can be on spotify someday. so, i'm done. really don't dig his lyrics, which i guess is the main appeal for ppl that do like this. it gets a 2 solely because of satellite of love.

Vamos tentar desconstruir aqui rapidamente e atribuir uma nota justa. Existe novamente um foco na letra, várias vezes até parece que é algo humoristico. A instrumentação é variada tendo alguns instrumentos menos comuns o que torna a expriência de ouvir o álbum mais interessante. Existem algumas músicas famosas como Perfect Day e o Walk on the Wild Side, aprimeira música é uma clara alusão ao Bruno Aleixo. Contudo existem músicas que são desintressantes, até parece que o arranjo delas é mau. Contudo,enquanto expriência geral de se ouvir é algo porreiro, vou com o meu gut feeling e terei de dar o 7. Really nice listen. Had some classic songs and some songs I wasn't familiar with, but all were enjoyable.

I'd say this is actually a bad album. It's quite arch, and a lot of the songs are stupid. Two bangers though.

Sensual and flavourful

it was enjoyable, the singles are epic, not as good as velvet underground but still an enjoyable album. some weird songs on it, but they're still pleasant on the ear.

I like Lou Reed so can’t fault this album

My overriding feeling listening to this album is disappointment. A couple of classics songs on here which needs to be acknowledged but even these failed to get me excited. A pretty unremarkable album which did nothing for me.

Speaking of loo reads. I was reading 'Being Freddie' by Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff whilst squeezing out the most painful, dark, foul smelling, Guinness shit yesterday. I must say, what a funny and articulate young man he is. To be a world class cricketer, who goes out on the lash at the drop of a ball, try your hand and boxing and they become a national tv treasure, you really have to hand it to the man. I bet he gets the Guinness shits a lot too. By jove, it was brutal, it felt like molten lava pouring out of my soul.

It was ok. Enjoyable musically in parts but I didn't get on with his voice. Obviously a couple of strong songs but they seemed a bit out of place to me with the rest of the album. 2*

Remember in the mid 90s when a bunch of singers covered Perfect Day? Like Heather from M People smashing the granny out of it. David Bowie, The Lightning Seeds and bloody Boyzone!!! What a time.

I have to be in the mood for Lou Reed and this one always puts me there whether I want it to or not. Such a good album. Not a classic, but very very good.

David Bowie has never been shy about acknowledging his influences, and since the boho decadence and sexual ambiguity of the Velvet Underground's music had a major impact on Bowie's work, it was only fitting that as Ziggy Stardust mania was reaching its peak, Bowie would offer Lou Reed some much needed help with his career, which was stuck in neutral after his first solo album came and went. Musically, Reed's work didn't have too much in common with the sonic bombast of the glam scene, but at least it was a place where his eccentricities could find a comfortable home, and on Transformer Bowie and his right-hand man, Mick Ronson, crafted a new sound for Reed that was better fitting (and more commercially astute) than the ambivalent tone of his first solo album. Ronson adds some guitar raunch to "Vicious" and "Hangin' Round" that's a lot flashier than what Reed cranked out with the Velvets, but still honors Lou's strengths in guitar-driven hard rock, while the imaginative arrangements Ronson cooked up for "Perfect Day," "Walk on the Wild Side," and "Goodnight Ladies" blend pop polish with musical thinking just as distinctive as Reed's lyrical conceits. And while Reed occasionally overplays his hand in writing stuff he figured the glam kids wanted ("Make Up" and "I'm So Free" being the most obvious examples), "Perfect Day," "Walk on the Wild Side," and "New York Telephone Conversation" proved he could still write about the demimonde with both perception and respect. The sound and style of Transformer would in many ways define Reed's career in the 1970s, and while it led him into a style that proved to be a dead end, you can't deny that Bowie and Ronson gave their hero a new lease on life -- and a solid album in the bargain.

It was ok.

Musically transformer is interesting. It's a bit like someone with a bit of musical skill rambling. Lou's Perfect Day made me feel sad. Walk On the Wild Side is a classic that I don't have in my library, and now I know which album it's from. He sounds like a musical version of Quagmire from Family Guy. "slick little girl" and "goodnight ladies" are some of the lyrics that gave me that feeling. In the end, the music was good, but the singing was a bit lazy.

I’ve lived with Lou Reed music for most of my life, due to the musical tastes of my father (and I assume my opinion on any other kind of 70s-90s rock or new wave albums on this list will be influenced by it), but even knowing the three “hit” songs on the album, _Perfect Day_ (made famous via _Trainspotting_), _Walk on the Wildside_ and _Satellite of Love_, this wouldn’t be an album that I would want to listen to. I think some of the songs are also jokes?

The high water mark for glam. clever tunes, smart lyrics dealing with the underbelly of society and Bowie on production duties. One of my favourite albums of all time

This album has Perfect Day and Walk on the Wild Side on it, both of which are stone cold classics. The former is a particular favourite (thanks BBC). Otherwise, this album is fine, but nowhere near that standard. I like Lou Reed's voice and can hear the Bowie influence in the production. 3/5

Its cool. Walk On The Wild Side is a generational tune. The Bowie connection on this album is strong. Its a good album that has that late 70's new york city metro sexual vibe.

It's something very pleasurable to discover a new album and recognize it as something classical. This album is great!

What a piece of trash! The awkwardness of the band trying to play a nice tune while the lead singer is raping the microphone is too much. At the start of each song he seems to pick a note and just sticks with that, barring half a note up and down once in a while. The Beastie Boys made horrible music, but at least they didn't claim they could sing - they just had a fun time recording. This dude is so much worse in that he had potential of producing nice music, if only he would shut the flip up and let his band play. Disliked, unsubscribed!

He looks like Frankenstein’s monster on the cover. Besides “Perfect Day” and “Walk On The Wild Side” (which are both fantastic) and to a lesser extent “Satellite of Love” and maybe “Goodnight Ladies” (for its weirdness), this album kind of sucks. Like quickly scrawled high school lyrics mangled and shoehorned to fit over basic power chord guitar music.

This album was produced by Bowie and I think you can tell on certain tracks. I have a fond memory of singing Perfect Day in a choir at Primary School.. a few years later I was told it was about drugs and then felt sad that we were singing that as children. BUT NOW I have just found out that actually it is just about love and having a really good day. My memory can be restored. I really enjoyed this album, varied and solid tracks

Find ich sehr langweilig. Der Gesang ist mäßig, da liegt aber der Fokus drauf. Der Rest ist dementsprechend auch nicht besonders. Den Mix, vor allem das Panorama, mag ich überhaupt nicht. Zum Teil sehr rechtslastig, was ich sehr unangenehm finde. Goodnight Ladies fand ich ganz nett, reißt aber den Rest des Albums nicht raus.

I have always had a difficult time with Transformer, I love Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day, Satellite of Love is good but I find Lou Reed's country-blues thing just not my thing. I know this is a great album but doesn't feel that consistent to me.

Super glammy but DIY punk themes are definitely sprinkled throughout. Mick Ronson guitar is outstanding but the piano gets a little annoying after awhile

This is an album I've been meaning to get to for a long time as many of my favorite artists are big fans of Lou Reed, John Frusciante being the first of these that I noticed from my days of geeking out on RHCP in my youth :) Hints of early punk roots and lazy singing that the frontman from Cake must've stolen decades later. Love it!

Such a wonderful, cozy album. Makes me want to stay inside with friends and kiss a boy and dance around.

Super chill. Definitely not something I could listen to all the time, but the hits from it are the way to go. Wagon Wheel was a surprise banger that I didn’t see coming.

I recognized this album right away because of seeing the album artwork so many times from listen in to "Walk On the Wide Side". I imagine Lou is a bit of an "odd one out" kind of person, and to that I say good. It's what makes this album so fun and peculiar. A good listen make me want to check out his other work. Going beyond the hit often reveals hidden gems. Lou to me seems like the male version of Nico. Summary- A nice short weird album.

Perfect album

The album of the day is Transformer by Lou Reed and it's made me very excited. I know it produced one of the Reed's most popular songs 'Walk on the wild side" which I've enjoyed for years. But it's 'Perfect Day' that is by far my most favorite song from this album. I'm sure it has a lot to do with a certain scene in Trainspotting, a movie I've seen so many times. Besides the subject matter, a really great dark comedy that gets funnier every time you watch it. Except the baby scene of course, which devastates every time. I'm enjoying this album and it's like an old friend I get to hang out with this morning in my office cube. It makes me want to dive back into the entire Velvet Underground catalog today and absorb it all into my head. Good for David Bowie to champion Lou and help birth this album into existence. This might be exactly what I needed this morning in my life.

Singing made it a bit of a slog, but enjoyed some of the concepts and some of the guitar riffs sounded like founding concepts for a lot of rock that followed.

Despite a few outstanding songs I didn't enjoy the album as a a whole. Reckon you would have to be more invested in the artist to appreciate the art in this one.

Great song "Walk on the Wild Side." The album was kind of an electic mix of styles. Some tracks made me think of David Bowie's Hunky Dory at times.

This has been my favourite one we've had so far. I find it such an original album unlike anything else, even Velvet Underground. It's got some ultimate bangers on it.

Mixed feelings about this one. Full of massive tunes but I’ve always found the lyrics to be a bit childish or sort of half though out. Don’t think I can give less than 5 stars though.

Ich musste lachen, als ich seinen Namen gelesen habe, weil er mir als ein Künstler bekannt ist, der eher spricht und weniger singt. Hoffentlich wird das kein weiteres Debakel. Ich glaube, mein Vater mag ihn. Die Musik ist gut. Ich wäre ein paar Mal fast in einen Groove gekommen, aber dann hat er wieder angefangen zu erzählen. Es ist schon eher eine Art SingSang. Sicherlich bewusst. Wahrscheinlich möchte er seine Texte damit mehr in den Vordergrund stellen. Das muss man ihm lassen: Die Texte sind ordentlich UND lang. Ich kann ihn sehr gut verstehen. Werde ich sicherlich nicht noch einmal hören, aber ich erkenne ihm einen künstlerischen Wert an.

Better than I would have expected. Had a thought his voice would be unappealing to listen to and I enjoyed this.

Samey, but fun I like some of the jazzy instrumentation. Reminds me heavily of Pavement's Terror Twilight, also Strokes-y. A sort of apathy/ wry look at the everyday with a combination of an appreciation of the good/ beautiful parts. Fav. Never really got into Lou Reed, this doesn't change much. It's got a certain lackadaisical personality to it, and I like the wide array of instruments. But it doesn't really do much for me. Favorite tracks: "Satellite of Love", "Walk on The Wild Side", "I'm So Free"

One of the great art rock artists and one of his solid proto-punk works. I especially like when he works jazz into his sound like on Goodnight Ladies. Also Walk on the Wild Side is a certified classic.

Lou Reed made better records before and after, but ‘Transformer’ has a hold of my heart. From the stellar glam rock production contributions of David Bowie and Mick Ronson to Lou’s subversive tales of the early 70s glam/gay scene, this album is a landmark in queer art.

Good stuff here. I always knew Lou Reed for "Walk On the Wild Side", but a lot of the sons are here are great as well. I would pick this up if I saw this at a store.
