Meh couple decent songs nothing memorable outside walk on the wild side
Kind of dull and monotonous sounding… The same time I did like his voice… Explain that.

Least favorite so far. I couldn't get into it. Obviously I've heard Wild Side before but that didn't help anchor me into the rest of the songs.
2 stars This album is overrated. Lou Reed generally, to me, is an acquired taste. Some people will never really like him. I enjoy a good amount of Velvet Underground. But his solo music, of which this is pretty much all I’ve listened to, has limited appeal. While I like some of the songs, they all feel like demos in that they don’t feel fully produced and fleshed out. And I get it that perhaps it’s a stylistic choice but it doesn’t appeal to me. So while I enjoy “Walk on the Wildside” and “Vicious,” singles “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love” feel like decently written songs that aren’t as good coming out of Lou Reed’s mouth.
The instruments behind him were fine, but his voice sucks all the enjoyment out of it, becoming a bit of a borefest.

A few great songs but not an albums worth. Again a best of would be best.

Novelty of his voice wears thin quickly. Some songs weren’t bad but a couple were really awful.
Lou Reed is cool and all but the second of half of this album really veers off into "goofy (in a bad way) beatles song" territory. Satellite of Love and Perfect Day are pretty good though.

This album features some really creative ideas and lyrics along with some solid vocals that should make for a pretty cohesive and strong album… But I felt like the execution came up short The mastering on this album holds up extremely well which made my listen more enjoyable but it wasn’t enough for me to find any songs that I truly connected with I think this is one of those albums where I want to be more objective with how I rate it but I just can’t get past my personal feelings here Sorry :( Favorites: None Honorable Mentions: None
I realise this has been out since 1972 and I've no context of the music scene of the year of my birth, but still this kind of music sounds quite generic pop/rock to me, lyrical themes notwithstanding. I've heard many of the songs on this album quite a few times and remember thinking why are these played so much. I feel like a lot of the things on this record are slight reinterpretations of things done in the previous and current generation of music, just put into another context and that's it. I'm not saying that is good or bad, but at this point Black Sabbath was up to releasing "Vol. 4" fer fux sake and had created a whole new music genre.
It's got three good songs, and you probably know which ones they are. The rest is pretty terrible.
Surprisingly uninteresting outside of the two major hits. For an album that was influential on glam rock, there isn’t a lot of rocking here outside of a few songs.

Songs like Hangin' 'Round and New York Telephone Conversation take me out completely. Lyrics and musicality completely eye roll inducing. Other songs, like Walk On the Wild Side and I'm So Free are fun enough, if not a little simplistic. If I was a teenager in America in the 70s I'm sure I would have a great deal of respect for this album, but I wasn't and I don't.

Includes multiple classics I've heard but never knew the artist of. Well written lyrics touching on a number of progressive topics including gender and sexuality paired with solid instrumentals (addendum, there's a couple real weak songs in a latter parts of the album). Held back by singing that sounds like Karaoke.

Other than “Walk on the Wild Side” I hate all the songs on this album. It sounds like Lou was high and drunk when he wrote these songs. They’re so annoying
I think this is a 5/10 record for me and maybe it will grow - I didn't connect to some of the tracks here and though I do like Satellite of Love and some of the music hall stuff it wasn't enough for me at first listen.
It takes me a while to warm up to Lou reeds purposely bad singing. Walk on the wild side is great, the front half of the album is better than the back half but the song writing is there to justify it on the list. I can see how it’s influenced a lot but it’s not really for me

Feel like im taking crazy pills. Its just not good, idc that it was influential. The best thing that came from this album is a song that isn’t even on it.

I really didn't like this. Walk on the Wild Side is good, but the rest is just Lou Reed sounding like a mediocre high school band lead singer.
Mid vocals, like speak-singing. Doesn’t really match the funky instrumentals. Simultaneously calm and energetic. Some weird lyrics. Feels like a fever dream musical.
Overall, just boring. Nothing to complain about, but nothing I enjoyed either.

Nah, I’ve had enough of Lou Reed throughout this project. Not my kinda music. Walk On The Wild Side was the only saving grace, but only out of familiarity.
Obviously 'Perfect Day' and 'Walk on the Wild Side' are the standouts - I just don't get Lou Reed. Kinda boring, influential, sure but boring.

“Walk on the Wild Side” and “Perfect Day” are great songs. The rest of this album sounds like demos for a musical about living in New York in the early 70’s that never got made because it was too precious even for musicals about living in New York in the early 70’s.
Opening song gave me blue balls for the rest of the album.

This feels like it was provocative in the 70s. And important for some reasons that I don’t understand.
1972, Walk on the wild side. Song style like Bob Dylan. Talking some kind of weird story half heartedly. Not very interesting to me.

never got into lou reed, although i will admit that i do like “walk on the wild side”. the guy can’t really sing and he tries to be profound and really isn’t.
I like Lou Reed and there's some good tracks on here but it's real fame comes from Bowie as producer. The last half tapers off, especially downhill after "Satellite of Love"which gets a bit too waltzy but is still decent. "Wagon Wheel" is also decent but I don't like the pop shop girls in the background. "NY Telephone Convo" and "Goodnight Ladies" are the weak links but altogether they're not bad enough to cancel out "Perfect Day" so it's a 2.45 for me.
Apart from the classic "Walk on the Wild Side," this is a mixed bag album of some decent supporter tracks and some complete floppers. What is "Andy's Chest"? No mention of a chest and was just a random babbler track with lame content. Nose toes, bare bears, and bats a swoopin? Bad. Couple other slapped together ones to fill an album. Must have felt so moronic to record some of these in a studio with professional equipment. This album makes the list cause Bowie likes it and the hookers in drag. Expected a bit more from Lou but he's a weirdo so you get this...1.7.

I don't think I'll ever really get into Lou Reed... There's nothing I can 'objectively' say against the quality of these songs, they just don't strike a chord with me. I do appreciate the inclusiveness of some of these lyrics, especially given the time of release. I'm glad Tribe got a great sample out of Wild Side, but that's about it for me.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this was pretty boring. It's pretty musically stale, and it might be pretty scandalous lyrically, but half a century later, it's unremarkable.
I genuinely wonder who listens to this and doesn't fall asleep three songs in.

Reed’s singing really brings this down. He sounds bored and uninspired, singing in a low range that doesn’t suit him. Like a broken man just going through the motions. And maybe he is. It’s a far cry from his work in Velvet Underground. Basically two different singers, and this is the worse of the two.

I've heard some stuff from the velvet underground before so I came into this album expecting a lot more than I got. The beats felt lazy and boring, the vocals were nothing special and the lyrics were awful. I was waiting for the album to start for its entire runtime.
I know "Perfect Day" because of the Puhskinti Day 2019 song and I first heard "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" through a health insurance commercial. I have been introduced to this album in the worst possible way twice without knowing it. There's a good reason why I, the perpetually blind to any music released before the 90s know these songs and it's because they're pretty good on all fronts - they're pleasing and unique in both a clever and understated way. There's a major drop off for me in the other songs, though. They're equally weak on an instrumental, lyrical and vocal level, and the entire album felt like it dragged it's heels despite their being some better-than-average songs on it.
The 3 is SOLEY for the song Walk on the Wild Side which is one of the greatest tunes ever made. Other than that, this album really has nothing that special
On my initially listen I thought I liked the album. But after listening to it again I realised I only like a couple of the songs and the rest were not for me. I don't know if I like Lou Reed that much.
It's OK. Lou Reed is massive and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. he doesn't have a good voice, and musically, this album is just kind of bland. Songs like New York Telephone Conversation are just confusing. It sounds like something that would be on an album for toddlers, and I mean that literally, not as a joke or a slight. I don't know, man. It's not dreadful, I guess?

Lou..... Reed..... solo..... album..... and this is s'posed to be his good one. Some classics for sure but...... I'll take his Hudson River Wind Meditations.
The good points of this album are great, but I'm not sure that they are enough to lift this above some of the cheese here to make this to a truly great album, one that I'd go back to. At least for me, it's more likely that I'll keep songs like Perfect Day and Walk on the Wild Side on general playlists and leave much of the rest as forgettable. There are a couple hidden gems--Vicious perhaps, Hanging Around and Andy's Chest. Others like Satellite of Love are flawed, while Wagon Wheel, Goodnight Ladies, and NY Phone are straight cheese. In fact, if this were a five song EP that ended at Walk on the Wild Side, it would have been a much better product.
None of what I like about Lou Reed shows up on this disk and much of what I dislike about David Bowie does. At times it comes off as Lou Reed trying to be sunny - a bit grotesque. The whole thing cries out for some Cowboy Junkies or Velvet Underground.
Perfect Day is the only song that I really liked out of the whole album, but I have never been a huge fan of Lou Reed to begin with. Walk on the Wild Side also OK, but in general the album is not for me.

A pretty lazy Bowie impression. I know Reed came first but… he’s just coasting on the success of his awful band. Perfect Day obviously a banger but done better by almost everyone who has covered it. The rest? Boring.

There wasn't much that I liked about this. The vocals are weak, the guitars were fine but that couldn't save this.

Reed's got better. Walk On The Wild Side is a GENERATIONAL hit. But so much of the rest is just navel-gazing filler. Out of the context of his uneven career, its forgettable as a statement.
This album started promising, but felt tiring as it went on. I like the social message, but I don't care for the music itself.

First part of the song sounds like he's trying not to wake his parents up. Still boring. {Perfect Day} <7.5/10> I'm a sucker for these kinds of piano chords and the soft spoken lyrics. Reminds me of when my mum used to sing me to sleep. The build up into the climax was delicious. The violins are absolutely gorgeous. Would I add it to my playlist ?? No, but I wouldn't be upset or bored if it came on the radio or smth. Kinda sounds like if Radiohead and Elvis Presley had a child. {Hangin' Round} <6/10> I wouldn't say its great, but I also wouldn't say its bad. Sounds like you'd hear it on a movie about a teen girl finding who she is, specifically the scene where she's getting ready for school. {Walk on the Wild Side} <5/10> It exists ... I don't really mind it's existence ... {Make Up} <-1000/10> Idk, but smth about him saying "slick little girl" gives me the ick. {Satellite of Love} <3/10> Pretty boring. Another [Insert generic sappy love song]. I think I'm finna cut the rating off here, this album is boring asf. I'm rating the entire album 2.1/10
His voice is emphasized in the mix, and I don't think it's that good. The whole thing is just kind of odd, and I'm not really all that impressed. The instrumentation is quirky and fun, but that doesn't really elevate the album out of its "meh"-ness. Favorite Song(s): Perfect Day
I think I like Lou better when he's weird on The Velvet Underground and Nico or White Light / White Heat than I do his more glammy and chill thing here. Don't get me wrong there was some great songs (Perfect Day, Make Up, Sattelite of Love, Walk on the Wild Side) and I love the gay subject matter he goes over but the ways the album can just be mid tempo pop rock or venture into more vaudville stuff towards the end really harmed the enjoyment of the album. Not bad but really not what I want from Lou yknow?
Okay, listen, I enjoyed one or two songs
Love TVU and I love glam rock. But this has always eluded me. Idk why it just feels so unlike the genre in how dull most of the hooks are. The hits are alright, but “perfect day” is the only song I would say is great. The rest are passable to painfully drawn out in Lou’s signature monotone crooning
Apart from Walk On The Wild Side, and I only enjoyed that through nostalgia, this album is pretty crap. Instrumentally good, lyrically it's a mad man's fever dream.
In terms of songs it sucks. It's just a guy yapping over instrumentals that range from either good to boring.

wow. lou reed. legend. I know this. I’ve heard it my entire life. I don’t get it. I don’t know if I have ever gotten it. I first heard Walk On the Wildside when Marky Mark did it and then wanted to hear the original. It was good…and then I heard the rest of the album and either felt too dumb or too smart to get it. I appreciated his work with Velvet Underground but avante garde rock apparently is not my thing. This album makes Lou Reed a One-Hit Wonder in my book, right there next to Gerardo (Rico Suave) and Vanilla Ice.

While I certainly know Walk On the Wild Side, I had never heard any of these songs before. While I totally appreciate his artistry, Lou Reed is just not my jam. I also have to acknowledge how absolutely ahead of his time Reed was when singing about transgender issues and homosexuality in 1972. Bowie and his lead guitarists being the producers makes a lot of sense for the music scene at the time.

Boring, tedious, kinda creepy too. Mercifully short. I feel like most of the New York scene was just a big old circle jerk back then. Velvet Underground might have started something big but this isn't exactly my favorite evolution of it.

The vocals throughout… ugh. Only on some emotional songs - Perfect Day; Walk on the Wildside - do they sound anything substantially more than amateurish and awkward; otherwisw they just sound perfunctory. And then from just glancing at the lyrics the writing is hardly a strength. Some fun instrumentation throughout, and outside of the two aforementioned songs Satellite of Love is pretty good, and Vicious grew on me a bit (even though it is exemplary of my issues with his vocals), but otherwise this isn’t quite it. (Though New York Telephone Conversation is some childish and stupid fun.)

All the songs have a very similar sound. Not super exciting for me.
The lyrics are pretty nonsensical, but not Ina fun or provacative way. Music is good, but not fun enough to spin again. The wild side song is alright, but even that was boring. Just boring.

And another 70s rock album. What the hack! I like the simple positive lines over a more tense, complex instrumental on ‘Perfect Day’. It creates perfect tension and makes me feel like there is a deeper message. Other than that I’m not too big of a fan of this album.
Two of the album's songs are timeless and appealing.
It might have gotten a higher rating if it weren't as vaguely creepy as it was.

I wasn't looking forward going into this one as I'm not really a Lou Reed fan. I will say after listening to this that it was not as bad as I thought it would be and will likely run through it again sometime soon. It began to grow on me starting after "Walk On the Wild Side". Especially the quirkiness of the songs on the 2nd half of the album.

Just okay. I know Walk on the Wild Side was/is popular, but it really only registered for me because ATCQ sampled it.
Lou Reed is not a good singer but he has this atonal, stylistic quality that is kind of interesting. I wanted to give this album a 3 but multiple factors worked against it. Some of the song lyrics were stupid and pretty bad. Strings were a bad choice on one of the songs and they took me out of that listening experience. The jury's still out on the numbers using the tuba and the other horn, I don't know if they really fit the vibe of this album.
2/5. There are some good songs here but god damn, Lou Reed doesn’t even want be here singing it. It’s like lazy karaoke, just boring vocals and lyrics. There are just mostly songs by other artists that sound exactly like these songs but better: Bowie, Doors, etc. I would rather just listen to those other albums. I do like satellite and wild side but otherwise, mostly pretty bad, not wholly unlistenable.

Njaaaaaaaa, texten var VÄLDIGT ifrågasättbar och jag blir alltid lika uttråkad när jag lyssnar på låtar som ”Walk on the wild side”. OCH då är det illa när den låten är min favorit låt på hela albumet. De förekom dock inte någon 100% musikalisk så de var iaf bra. Därför får albumet 2 stjärnor, och de ska sägas är väldigt generöst!

Its interesting for sure. The style starts to annoy me after a while though.
Alright, this album was mid, at best. The common theme I could not get passed was the spoken vocals. My favorite few songs off the album involved his vocals (Perfect Day, Satellite of Love, Wagon Wheel) The only saving graces of this album were the experimental instrumentals on each track. And, of course, I come to find out this album was produced by Bowie. Well no shit this album got attention if Bowie had a hand in it. Without Bowie's production, Reed's vocals probably would have been backed by yawn-worthy instrumentals, which in turn would have made this album dust in the wind.

It's fine. Not my cup of tea.
To begin: I understand the cultural significance of this album. However, this album is proof that everyone was on acid in the 70's. It is an objectively not great album. Listen to 'New York Telephone Conversation' again, look me in the eyes and tell me this album is 5 stars. It does have it's moments. Bowie makes it shine. But that is also the problem for me; without Bowie this album would be objectively awful and not worth listening to. This album was a product of it's time I seem. I don't feel it aged well. Production is not great (but forgiven since it is the 70s), songwriting is okay, but a lot of songs sound like poetry a depressed 11th grade dropout would make. While that may resonate with those that like this album, it's like listening to emo done poorly before emo existed.

I had never personally heard a Lou Reed song before this album though I knew of him. I must say, I doubt I will be familiarising myself with his discography. Some I enjoyed and some had lines that sounded like mad libs. Favourite: Satellite Of Love Least Favourite: Perfect Day

Not my cup of tea; however, the success of Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day must mean something. To me the lyrics sounded forced, just for a rhyme.

Started off strong, but the back half has some odd tracks that didn't land for me. Can definitely see why Bowie was in Lou's corner. Sound is crisp and mixing is top-tier.

Maybe it is simply not for me. I can see the album being extremely cosy and nice. But to be honest, it bores me.

Spotify suggests this album to me constantly. I listened to it. I do not understand the praise this album gets. Not the worst, but not good, IMO. Looking forward to seeing what other people think.

Lou Reed puzzles me. The man CANNOT hold a tune to save his life. And yet he is held up on such a high pedestal. You listen to John Lydon, and the Sex Pistols' music is... not super-melodious. But you let it slide, because it's punk. It's not Sinatra, it's not the most croon-y. But you hear "Walk On The Wild Side," and most of the time he's not really holding a melody there. But it fits the song ok. But other songs on the album... doesn't fit as well (i.e. "Satellite of Love," "Goodnight Ladies"). Really needed to have someone who was really able to hold a tune. The two songs of Reed's everyone knows are on this album, and I will give him that. "Perfect Day" and "Walk On The Wild Side" are great songs. But other songs on it are real head-scratchers (I'm looking at you, "Andy's Chest."). They are just total nonsense. And maybe that's from Bowie's suggestions, turning this more into a glam record. Lou Reed's inability to keep the tune just really puts me off on most of the songs. Anyone else sings these tunes with this level of ability, and they're laughed at. Reed does it, and he's a genius. I just don't get it. But I'll give him 2 stars for those 2 classic songs, but that's all you get from me.

For me, it was a forgettable album. The notable exception was take a walk on the wild side glass track. I like that one overall two out of five.
Only a 2 from me. I feel a bit bad about this actually since it's so famous, and for real Wild Side and Perfect Day are both great tracks. But somehow the rest of the record feels like a bit of a joke haha a throwaway. I think this whole 'glam rock' thing doesn't hit a bullseye with me in general.

Pretty sure I only knew two Lou Reed songs before this. I've never particularly cared for "Walk on the Wild Side," and I actively dislike "Perfect Day" (at least in part because Hollywood uses it ironically during scenes of chaos and destruction so fucking much it makes me want to scream), but I was hoping an entire album of Lou Reed would change my perception of him. It did not. Is it just me or is he kind of dorky? I don't know, but this isn't for me.
I have two of my very beloved songs on this album, so I have some expectations. … It didn’t live up to my expectations.

"You have a hairy minded pink bare bear"! The lyrics don't make sense too frequently here, the music is OK, but not outstanding. There are iconic songs (Perfect day and Walk on the wild side) that will always be popular, but the rest is no more than OK.

I just don't think Lou Reed is for me. Something about his music just doesn't do it for me. Walk On the Wild Side is great and all but I didn't really enjoy half the album. Will return for another listen if my moods different but its a 2/5 at the moment.

This is apparently Glam Rock. It's an odd genre since it seems to be more about what you wear than what you perform. That being said, it does seem to feature an almost dead pan singing style. It's rough for a whole album. I can't get behind it. It does have Walk on the Wild Side, which is great. It shows the dead pan approach can work, but it's not enough to save the album.
The Bowie-Ronson influence in the production and instrumentals is very obvious and great. However, the elephant in the room is that they're working around a bad singer. They cover for it well in some of the tracks (Perfect Day, Hangin' 'Round, Walk on the Wild Side, I'm Free), but he honestly just sounds bored on most of the other ones. Favorite track, non-Wild Side division: I'm Free
This album just felt like his stuff with velvet underground but worse in every way. Took a perfect formula and got the wrong answer. I’ll give it a two. If I ever revisit this album I hope I am able to enjoy it.

My first Lou Reed album. Really enjoyed the guitars and piano, vocals a bit bland, and overly ordinary, though with interesting and poetic lyrics. Production reminiscent of Stooges meet Bowie, but lacking the edge. Really feel like I'm missing some edge here. Vicious and Satellite of Love are possibly the best tracks. Would be rated higher, but gets significantly weaker towards the back-end.

This second album from Lou Reed is an influential piece of the glam rock genre. Most of the songs on this album have become Reed's most popular ones. I did not find this album to be moving, but it was a fun listen!

Transformer for the most part is a well-balanced album...Undoubtedly, some credit can be tossed to David Bowie (producer). The album exhibits some deep cuts along with some seemingly breezier tracks. Worth a listen to, but would never be my go-to.
I know Lou Reed is a big name in '70s and '80s rock and roll, and his guitar work is pretty solid, but listening to this felt like a chore more than any of the albums so far (even Smashing Pumpkins). He sounds like he's been forced to record this and could not care much less about any of it.

I only really knew 'Walk On The Wild Side' before listening to this one - and reading the Wiki, I'm not surprised that it was produced by Bowie. It feels like a dirtier, less polished Bowie/glam rock. I definitely prefer Bowie, this felt like it needed a lot more fine tuning for me. But I can see how it was key to the glam rock scene. My top pick is 'Satellite of Love'.

I think I remember Lou Reed being one of the greats but I can't remember. Just like I won't remember listening to this album after I'm done and more focused on the actual better albums that came out this week in 2021. Some of these were entertaining but for the most part I found him a little creepy and it wasn't just because of the album cover.
'Berlin', sein drittes Solo-Album, hat mir ja überhaupt nicht gefallen, dieses hier finde ich besser, und 'Walk on the Wild Side' ist natürlich ein überragender Song. 'Perfect Day' fand ich noch nie so besonders, der Rest ist auch eher so meh bis ok.

got berlin some time ago. first song: still dislike his voice. music is not awful but it does nothing for me. really, really want to emphasize how much i dislike his voice and monotonous delivery. on the second song now and i appreciate when he sings a little bit louder with a little more power cause at least it's giving something, can't stand his murmuring. 'walk in the wild side' is surely a song, seems like the most popular one but i can't say i've ever heard it. huh 'satellite of love' sounded familiar, there's a remix that i still hear on the radio. i do like the remix so kudos to him for providing the base for it, hopefully it can be on spotify someday. so, i'm done. really don't dig his lyrics, which i guess is the main appeal for ppl that do like this. it gets a 2 solely because of satellite of love.

I’ve lived with Lou Reed music for most of my life, due to the musical tastes of my father (and I assume my opinion on any other kind of 70s-90s rock or new wave albums on this list will be influenced by it), but even knowing the three “hit” songs on the album, _Perfect Day_ (made famous via _Trainspotting_), _Walk on the Wildside_ and _Satellite of Love_, this wouldn’t be an album that I would want to listen to. I think some of the songs are also jokes?

Find ich sehr langweilig. Der Gesang ist mäßig, da liegt aber der Fokus drauf. Der Rest ist dementsprechend auch nicht besonders. Den Mix, vor allem das Panorama, mag ich überhaupt nicht. Zum Teil sehr rechtslastig, was ich sehr unangenehm finde. Goodnight Ladies fand ich ganz nett, reißt aber den Rest des Albums nicht raus.

Despite a few outstanding songs I didn't enjoy the album as a a whole. Reckon you would have to be more invested in the artist to appreciate the art in this one.
Ich musste lachen, als ich seinen Namen gelesen habe, weil er mir als ein Künstler bekannt ist, der eher spricht und weniger singt. Hoffentlich wird das kein weiteres Debakel. Ich glaube, mein Vater mag ihn. Die Musik ist gut. Ich wäre ein paar Mal fast in einen Groove gekommen, aber dann hat er wieder angefangen zu erzählen. Es ist schon eher eine Art SingSang. Sicherlich bewusst. Wahrscheinlich möchte er seine Texte damit mehr in den Vordergrund stellen. Das muss man ihm lassen: Die Texte sind ordentlich UND lang. Ich kann ihn sehr gut verstehen. Werde ich sicherlich nicht noch einmal hören, aber ich erkenne ihm einen künstlerischen Wert an.

Sleazy glam rock and art rock built from loose guitars, piano-driven arrangements, understated rhythms, and dry conversational vocals drifts like wandering through neon-lit alleyways at 3 a.m. with a poet who’s equal parts detached observer and provocateur—stylish, decadent, and unevenly fascinating. At its best, it feels effortlessly iconic.
Pre Listen: Yet another band, album, and artist I have no knowledge of off the top of my head. No expectations going in on this one, absolutely blind. Notable Tracks: Viscous - The best song I heard on this album. I say best, but I wasn't really a fan of anything on here, it's just this was the only song that wasn't absolutely terrible. Satellite of Love - I quit listening to the album on this track. Trash. Post Listen: So I guess this an early example of Emo Rock? Half the time Lou Reed's vocals make him sound like he's about to fall asleep. He looks positively bored in the album cover. The music they've produced left me bored as well. They sound like a Walmart-brand amalgamation of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and a hint of the Kinks, but without any of the fun, creativity, or raw talent. Songs about sex, drugs, and other adult themes without any talent in the actual sound of the music or lyrics might've been unique in the 60's and earlier, but by the 70's it's so played out. I guess they could be applauded for some positive themes about queerness in a time when that kind of thing could get you exiled from your community, but their music sounds so terrible, it may have contributed to LGBTQ hatred unironically. This will be my first album I couldn't finish because of how grating it sounded. 1/5 Stars.
I like it. Was not familiar with Lou Reed before this and tried to kept it that way for the initial listen. This might be one of my favorite voices that I've heard. He really shines in Perfect Day, which was easily my favorite track and probably one of my favorites from every album we've gone through so far. Unfortunately kind of an okay album altogether. The b-side was not good (I don’t know what New York Telephone Conversation was trying to do but I don’t care I didn’t like it at all). I’m So Free was probably the strongest track here but it didn’t stop the second-half of my listen from feeling like a slog. EDIT: Actually never mind this was some trash dude.
