Reviews (page 8 of 8)

I expected this to be too poppy for my taste but it’s certainly unique even with that pop classification, I went back and forth on throughout the album, it’s not great song to song but the title track is of course a classic and I found myself nodding my head to the music a lot more than I expected. Love is a stranger was a good opening and one I didn’t know, however didn’t take much else from the album and is a soft 3 at best

Not a fan of eurythmics. Was a tough listen

This album swings wildly between jazzy electro-swing and dull house music. There are a couple fun standouts like Sweet Dreams and Love is a Stranger, but as an album it does not stand out at all.

TBH I'd never listened to this before and had only heard the Marilyn Manson version of Sweet Dreams. I can see why people like it but not my cup of tea.

I respect the talent and their presence in the 80s, but have never been a Eurythmics fan.

the title song is obviously great, but i wouldn't come back to this just because of one song

Dave and Annie. They bestrode top of the pops like mid-80s colossi, making the most of that new MTV thang to the max. Received wisdom: she had a great voice and presence. He wrote snappy pop songs. My wisdom: cynical industry chancers who were so in the middle of the road they've got white lines all down their faces. Inescapable at the time, irrelevant now. Two stars only for the last track which hints at what they could have done with a little less slavery to the machine.

Overrated

i like the title track, but this album isn’t my jam. but, new appreciation for influence on acts like la roux in 2009? and i have to think the fifth element was borrowing her look.

O single, ou seja, o hit é bem maior que o álbum.

Sweet dreams

Strong 2, maybe I’m over synths

One okay "hit" and a collection of rubbish

Not sure if it's due to the remaster, but a lot of the vocals sound very disjointed, from each other and from the rest of the mix.

Pretentious

This was surprising dull

Nice slices of 80s pop

Enjoyed the first third but man did they drag that album out!

God damn so boring

Sweet Dreams (the song) is a classic. But mostly this album is cold and dry without such excitement. The Inhuman League as it were. The electronics are all competent, but this Tin Man lacks any of the heart of its compatriots' albums.

Nooit veel aan gevonden, nu ook niet…

Not a massive fan of this album. Ofcourse sweet dreams is a tune, i also liked this is the house.

This is the music that gets played in a club while a Terminator that looks suspiciously like Annie Lennox is chasing after you. Best Tracks: I Could Give You (A Mirror); Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This); This Is The House

2 star only because of sweet dreams

I’m giving it a two off of sweet dreams alone but my god this sucked

Knew and likes one song. Not my type of music.

Title track and Live is a Stranger are excellent. Rest sound dated.

Weirdly bland. I expected there would be other songs I enjoyed on this, but I really didn't. I love the sound of her voice, but the music doesn't live up to it beyond the obvious single.

Not sure about that. A bit to "bop be bop" 80s for me.

Annie Lenox salvages, to a degree, these otherwise cold and soulless songs. The 80’s weren’t the best of times for pop music and 40 years later, it shows.

Never been much of a fan of Eurythmics, and listening to this album in full hasn't really changed anything. The hits are definitely the highlight, and despite some cool synth sounds and productions choices a lot of the other tracks felt like filler.

DONT CARE. best song: Jessica

One song was fine

The title is obviously a banger, but none of the rest of this album is sticking with me at all, and I really like 80s synthpop. Everything after sweet dreams feels so anemic too and just plods along

The only song I knew was Sweet Dreams...and that is the best song on the album.

Didn't age well. A classic song + a lot of 80s new wave misses

Started off on a relatively high note with Love Is Strange. Started losing it with I’ve Got An Angel. Jumped back up with Wrap It Up. Meh with I Could Give You and The Walk. Always really enjoyed Sweet Dreams. But the video was whacked, what the heck was up with all the cows?!? Feel like the video should have been more sexually visually. Could do without Jennifer. The Scooby Snacks we’re definitely kicking in when they composed This Is The House. Somebody Told Me is unremarkable. Too much guessing in The City Never Sleeps. I GET IT, YOU GUESS IT’S JUST A FEELING! Hate redundant loops that go on and on. Enough already! Home Is Where The Heart is was almost ok but then started to do the repeat thing. Had my hopes for Monkey, Monkey because who doesn’t like monkeys?!? Always said if I ever wrote a movie, I’d have a monkey in it. A monkey and a midget. Gotta have a scene or two with a midget too! And while I think Annie has an amazingly beautiful voice, I don’t want to listen to a song with a repeating beat and her saying monkey, monkey over and over. Baby’s gone Blue. Good, hopefully it’s dead. Not sure if I was listening to an album with some bonus tracks but don’t know what the difference was between Sweet Dreams Hot Remix and the original Sweet Dreams. Anyway, don’t need two versions of it. Same with Love Is A Stranger Coldcut Remix. 1 version was enough and now I’m turned off on the original version! I’ll stick with Lou Reed’s original version of Satellite of Love. Or maybe even U2’s. I could see Rob Snarski playing his version in the corner of a coffee shop. Not opposed to it. Men Without Hats version isn’t bad. Probably like Natalie Wouldn’t’s version the best (can you use an apostrophe s on a contraction when it’s part of a name to show possession? I think yes even though MS Word doesn’t like it). Nice upbeat and good use of horns which I always appreciate. But again, how many times can you say 1 word in a song?!? Apparently, a lot. I do wonder who Harry, Mark and John are though. I thought about a 3 star because again, appreciation of the genre for those that like it and respect for Eurythmics impact and relative mainstream success. But never liked techno (always makes me think of Eminem’s Without Me line ‘Nobody listen to techno’). And while Eurythmics isn’t true techno, google search indicates synthpop, new wave, dance rock and even genre-fluid music (probably the start of gender fluid right there!), it’s too much for me and I’m not in total disagreement with bettywaxit in thinking yuck. So had to go with a 2 star.

I had a lot of hope for this album based on the amazing single. But unfortunately I think it's a bit too 80s/of the era for me. Maybe I'd enjoy it more on another day.

Few songs only and of course title song.

I usually love new wave, but this did not meet my expectation, although Sweet Dreams will always be a banger.

Stimme is nix.

Sweet Dreams are made of this is an amazing song. Didn't care for the rest of the album.

Not really a fan of this album. Sweet Dreams and Love Is A Stranger are classics though.

Outside of the title track, this one fails to impress. Some of the vox here are shockingly bad, and the instrumentation presents itself in sparse and displeasing ways. Unsure why the wonderful vocal harmonies and synth lines of 'Dreams' didn't play a larger role in the album as a whole.

Aww man… I love her voice so much and the title track is a classic. I was hoping to like this so much more than I did, but so little here stood out to me. I liked “Jennifer”? Probably because it’s about Jennifer Grey (I assume). But that’s about it.

Tveir bangerar. Restin ekki alveg þar. Samt stórt þrep í áttina að því sem þetta dúó varð.

48. Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics 10 tracks. Love the electronics and contrast of Lennox's voice but this is less an album & more an amalgamation of odds and sods that weren't good enough to finish never mind about release. It's really poor. 2/5

kinda boring tbh 2.5

Couldn’t get past two songs

Not particularly my style. I enjoy their energy, but it feels weird in a way that I’m not a fan of listening to.

another gash album with two massive hits on, its a formula we've heard loads in this list. its nice to hear the huge hits but grimacing through the rest of them is hard work. I was all set to fuck this off and listen to something good but then i heard jennifer. that lovely bit of dark synth work almost made the rest of the album worth listening to. i say almost. it fucking didn't.

There's a lot going on on this album. I was quite surprised how complex the songs were but in the end they weren't that strong.

Nja, ingen slam dunk. Bäst: "This is the house"

Kind of not great other than Sweet dreams

Primitive. Bass-y synth beat on Wrap It Up (a song about using a condom?) was good. Sweet Dreams is clearly head and shoulders above any other song and is the only reason I didn’t give 1 star.

Exactly what i would have expected. Not great, not bad.

Getting through this has been a little difficult, it's not quite my vibe today. But I press on!

Interesting I suppose. Uses multiple tones amd themes through, not my thing though.

Not my cup of tea

eh, not a huge fan, nothing stood out to me other than sweet dreams and I don't necessarily love that either

Eh, honestly kinda weak. outside of sweet dreams not a lot of these tracks really called out to me. kind of bland and stereotypical

Don't get me wrong. Sweet Dreams (the song) is a solid 5/5, but this rating is about the entire album, and the rest of the album was rather bland to me. I won't let a single song carry the album's rating.

Not any really engaging songs. I've heard Sweet Dreams before but even that is kinda meh to me. I probably won't explore what else this group has to offer.

Their name says it all. They were the first tectonic band that had lyrics. I could go on and on about Annie Lennox. What depth and range she has! Her album The Annie Lennox Collection is in my top 5 of all albums. Listen to that to hear her talent ooze from start to finish 🎧 For fun watch her video “walking on broken glass” and be surprised by her A list friends. This album was her breakout album since prior were not hits. I enjoy her music more when she goes single. Sweet Dreams is a catchy tune, but as mentioned future albums are so much more fun

First song and title song are great. The rest of it seems pretty similar to Yaz except not as engaging.

A couple of decent singles and lots of filler. I found Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) dissapointing.

Not my type of music

The title song of this album is a complete classic but I couldn't find any other songs I could get behind. I did enjoy Wrap It Up but only for the weird noises. This was a bummer since I've always been a fan of Anne Lennox.

Not my thing

Pop, tecno.

Weird and fine for the most part. A couple pretty good songs.

Expected to love this but it was a big miss for me.

Not my type of music

Too 80s for me, but not terrible.

Besides Sweet Dreams, nothing else stands out

'80s synth crap, don't care for it.

other than sweet dreams rest is pretty weird

Yhden biisin levy. 784657365 kuuntelukertaa kärkibiisillä ja ääripäällä 53726 - tilastot kertoo kaiken...

Boring and annoying

Never did like Lennox and Stewarts work. Sounds awfully dated now.

Been a while since this list annoyed me with more FUCKEN new wave bullshit, good to see it hadn't exhausted its supply. This was even worse than usual new wave in that it wasn't even upbeat, just emo dog shit. 2/5 because it wasn't total anti-music.

At first glance, I assumed this would be a 2 stars album. It would be ok, the hit single would add in a star and it would be fairly mundane Euro Synth Pop music. That lasted until track 3 when the abomination of a cover of "Wrap It Up" was inflicted on my ears. It's fucking bullshit. Seriously, it's trash and fuck the Eurythmics for doing this. They took an Isaac Hayes and David Porter written song and destroyed it. The Sam and Dave version is a stone cold classic. Hell, even the Fabulous Thunderbirds did a decent cover. BUT this pair of clowns fucked it up. That single song was so bad it colored my feelings for the rest of the album. This is a 0 star album in my option. I have to give it one in order to move on, but it's a 0 star album for sure. Idiots.

100% could have died fine without hearing this. Don't get me wrong, Annie Lennox is a fine singer. But I'm surprised they could write a tune as good as Sweet Dreams because going by this album apparently they couldn't write for shit. And I did not need the exceptionally shitty Sam and Dave cover, the inclusion of which only proves my previous point.

1.6/5 Other than the title track this album offers very little.

Un titre mais j’aime pas trop

hot ass

Sounds like the stupid shit everyone used to do on the Yamaha keyboards in school…. ‘DJ! DJ! *elephant noise*’

I saw a review which said every song feels like 30 seconds of material stretched out to three (sometimes six) minutes and I couldn't put it better myself. Even "Sweet Dreams.." - by far and away the best track on the record - is the same, but with a much catchier riff and chorus. I like that song less having heard it in the context of the full album. I found "Jennifer" grating, while "Satellite of Love" is up there with the worst covers I've come across. The runtime of 1:12 seemed excessive given the above and I am ready not to hear any more Annie Lennox

Malum şarkı dışında yükselemedim mlsf

By-the-numbers synthpop with stiff, mannered singing. Musically, it lacks any of the edge that more innovative groups like Soft Cell or Yaz had.

Sweet dreams are made of these. Wait. This??? I am already infuriated. I hate adjusting words to make things rhyme. I hate a lot of stuff, come to think of it. After just my 9th 5 star rating, we plunge back into the nightmare realm with this tossing, turning, and steaming pile of radio-electro slop. That one song that everybody has heard before and about 9 other equally boring and repetitive dance (?) tracks that have me questioning why I ate that loaded XXL Garbage Blast Supremo Burrito before bed. When I'm questioning my late night consumption of 3500 calories, you know that something is wrong, and something was very wrong here. This sucked. This isn't one of the 1001 most important albums ever. Try harder. 0.5 HIGHLIGHTS: *GREGORIAN CHANTING*

mto eletronico, nao é minha vibe, 2/10

This felt so dry. I needed more warmth today.

This is all VERY 1983, in the worst possible way. The vocals are heavily mannered, the keyboard sounds and drum sounds are frozen in time. It also has a rotten, pointless, cover of "Wrap It Up". A tiresome, tiring listen

Fuck I hate eurythmics

Excited as I was from knowing this will feature one of the all time classic songs "Sweet Dreams" I got instantly and continuously disappointed by this Synth-Pop album.

1. love - 1.5 2. angel - 1.5 3. up - 1 4. give - 1.5 5. uualk - 1.5 6. dreamz - 2.5 7. jennifer - 1.5 8. houze - 0 9. me - 0 10. city - 1.5

1 star Sounded like someone messing around with keyboard sound effects. I never liked the title track. And it doesn’t get better from there.

I can’t explain why but I fucking hate Eurythmics.

Doubt anyone who listened to this album as a teenager when it came out can name a single song other than the titular

Vocals just failed to deliver on pretty much every track, instrumental was alright, but final product sounded like shit

dunno...

Meh, peak meh. This album has never been good.

This is 80s euro pop trash. I suspect there was a corporate interest behind their success

This is definitely the type of album that just isn’t for me. It just sounds like pounding in my ears with the relentless electric sound.

Title track is good. The rest had good ideas at their core, but never really developed into anything memorable - just more 80s sounds. Meh.

Did not like. Just annoyed me.

I guess you had to be there. Poor man’s Pet Shop Boys.

Other than the title track, I'd say this album is fairly forgettable 80's synth-pop. The Eurythmics, in my opinion, are a singles/best of band, not a 'listen to the whole album' band.

One hit wonder, rest is shit

Unappealing mix of thin 80s Pop instrumentation, detached robotic sound, and corny emotional content.

So boring I didn't even finish

I just got through the whole Sweet Dreams album. God, it's boring. That one song really is the only good one I've heard by them. I thought Jennifer and This is the House were alright. Mostly, though, it's all so stiff and sterile and empty. It's a prog band trying to do pop, and I imagine this is how I'd have felt if my extremely stern, punitive IT teacher had ever tried to do a 'fun' assembly: really bored, a bit amused by the sheer naffness of it all but desperately trying not to show any emotion in case I get shouted at. The title track lacks a second verse, but the rest of the songs are even more underwritten. It's certainly no La Roux. I don't think I'll ever get over my hatred for that kind of lifeless 80s production, either.

They have one good song and we all know what it is. I can kind of see a Beach House influence.

Min favoritlåt från albumet var Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)- hot remix. TACK FÖR MIG

Terrible. Made me like their one hit even less after putting myself through that synth pop horror.

As much as I like Annie Lenox and sweet dreams, neither could save the rest of this album for me…

Super boring. Didn't even make it all the way through

Only for sweet dreams

Actually after a day I can't remember like a single thing about this album except the weirdly popular title track. I think there was a bit of narration at some point? Whatever

Are we serious with this? *Checks Reviews* ....ARE WE SERIOUS WITH THIS?! This is not good music. It's not interesting music. It's debateably not even music. Give me a fucking break man.

Sweet dreams are absolutely NOT made of this. I have hated that song since I was ten, so I went into this with some hesitation but figured that maybe the other stuff on the album might be better. I was wrong, it's all crap.

Kind of slow

This is bad.

Sweet Dreams is a fun song and a classic but most of this album stinks. NEXT!

Terrible garbage. Their big hit on here is pretty good but mostly for the familiarity. These guys suck

The ultimate 1 hit wonder. This album has the hit. So. That kind of tells the whole story here.

Not great, even with the title song being good. The rest of the album is just so flat and boring.

Not a fan

Bad album

one good song, rest is absolute trash

Seriously? Good voice but the music is irritating.

This City Never Sleeps

That first track has the weirdest background noises that I am pretty sure are the same as Legend of Zelda II on the OG Nintendo NES! Hahah. Track two brings on the flute bounce which is pretty stressful. Anyhow, overall, I think if I never heard Annie Lenox sing to me again, that would be fine. Glad she's out there and I hope she made someone happy.

overrated song meh album

odd, trance, not similar

Not for me very minimalist 80s new wave. Few good songs (sweet dreams stands out) otherwise pretty boring.

Beforehand, I did not see the point of the Eurythmics. Firstly, ridiculous and pretentious name that invites unintentional spelling mistakes, so I wasn't inclined to take them that seriously. Secondly, Sweet Dreams is massively overplayed, seemingly bolted on to every documentary about Thatcher, even though it doesn't really go anywhere. Still, I rather like synthpop; indeed, I love Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Soft Cell and New Order. So I tried to have an open mind, seriously. The first side, I didn't hate. I know, faint praise. I felt the songs were slightly overstretched, but were tolerable, pleasant enough. I still don't get the affection for Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (by the by, that is a genuinely annoying use of parentheses after the title: Annie Lennox clearly says "these", especially since it rhymes with "seas" in the song). But when Jennifer came on, I found myself genuinely liking it: a sinister, minimalist, impressionistic murder ballad. So I began hoping that the second half would continue in this unsettling trend: synthpop has always been an excellent vehicle for the macabre. Nope, the next song This is the House is horrible! It's really, comically bad! An unwitting self-parody that's also the lamest attempt of a Bowie impersonator attempting funk, with added sound effects. This is outrageous! This is contagious! This was released as a single! Then, on the next song, Somebody Told Me, Annie Lennox THREATENS TO RAP. She doesn't, but she really indulges the hip-hop inflections in the chorus. With that, you can really taste your anus at the back of your tongue. The last song is a meandering and really dull bit of real dullness, conning itself that an epic closer is reducible only to length. So, can I condemn an album for three weak tracks at the end? Yes, I can. Imagine a chef offers to prepare you a meal. The first half consists of a passable, slightly stodgy stew. You feel a little bloated, not too impressed, but not inclined to complain. Then, they offer a delicate lemon and honey sorbet as a palate cleanser, and they get the sharp and sweet balance exactly right. But at the end, the chef clambers onto the table, lowers his strides and does a massive, stinky poo right onto your plate. What would you remember, the stew or the poo?

one hit wonder.

"Sweet Dreams" is, of course, a classic. But I'm not feeling the rest of the album. Too synthy (its weird that I like Chvrches, that's way more synth than I usually like), but particularly a lot of weird sounds (the beginning of "I've Got An Angel"). I laughed out loud when I don't think I was supposed to at a lot of parts. There's a reason "Sweet Dreams" was the only hit off this record.

I swear I try, but except for some very popular songs, Electronic music is definitely not for me. In this case, even the meme song "Sweet Dreams" is tiring.

This is awful lol just way too 80s for me

Not for me, chief

sweet dreams is the only good song on here no cap

Great álbum
