Final two tracks were good, seemed like a lot of chaotic noise otherwise. Don't think this has aged that well. 2.5

Oh how I have tried to love this. I love psychedelic music so gutted that I’m missing out on this but I don’t get it. Possibly missed the boat on this one, that the guitar sounds & studio techniques are dated and now the norm. Trying to listen and spot the barriers being smashed 50 years down the line is tricky, Half Man Half Biscuit smashed more barriers in their latest EP. There’s a melancholy to this typical of the time. I like the way you can hear people in the studio having a party though. Best guitarist ever I wouldn’t know about that it’s not obvious from this. It’s a wide ranging LP lots of styles it’s a proper double LP. Maybe half a trip instead of my bottle of red would do the trick, there’s loads going on but he’s no singer to my ears. No surprise given the age but this has dated. Very clear Stone Roses influencer for their 2nd LP but they should have stuck with the Byrds.

This is the third, and I believe final Hendrix album on this list. I still think the dude is crazy overrated. Yeah, All Along The Watchtower is a stone cold classic, but the rest doesn't interest me. I dont care that he was a guitar virtuoso; if he can't write songs that I don't really want to hear that means nothing to me. His vocals have always been supbar too. Feel free to fight me on this one.

Voodoo Child is a powerful blues songs and its goddamn forever long. Burning Of The Midnight Lamp is pretty good. Still Raining, Still Dreaming sucks.

Not a fan of the genre of psychedelic blues...but, I will say, Mr. Hendrix can play the heck out of that guitar!~ Best song is "Cross Town Traffic"

There are the tracks you already know and love - Voodoo Child, Crosstown Traffic, All Along the Watchtower - and then the rest is a meandering, unfocused mess, jazz-like tracks which go on no particular journey. It’s a massive disappointment from such talented artists.

Hmm. This kind of struck me as a snooze-fest. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood? Or maybe it's... just kind of a snooze-fest? I liked "Burning of the Midnight Lamp," which is a tune I was not familiar with, but it feels like overall this record is here just to prop up the last two tracks. It's a damn strange thing to see an album where the best two songs are track numbers 15 and 16, ha. Pretty ballsy in a way!

Not a huge Hendrix fan in general, and this may be my least favorite album that we have listened to on this list. Just average late sixties rock IMHO. 2.5/5

I doubt very very few people have all 1001 albums on this list. Or 1001 albums in general. So I use other sources, like youtube music or spotify or whatever. I found electric ladyland on youtube, with the songs coming from a collection of individual posts. The first song, and the Gods made Love... was a video of a record spinning, playing this song. the second... background music for someone playing quake(?) Oddly amusing, but tough to get through all of it to the masterpiece of the album.

All Along the Watchtower is Great. Everything else seems uninteresting and excessive. I'm not sure Voodoo Child could be a good 4 minute song... why do i need 15 minutes of it? Ugh.

1. ... And The Gods Made Love - are these sounds recorded in Hell? Kinda like the whooshing sound but the demonic voice really wasn't necessary 2. Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) - I like the production, but the song itself ain't anything special 3. Crosstown Traffic - more funky compared to the previous two songs. I like it well enough, but not enough to add it to a playlist 4. Voodoo Chile - nice guitar in the intro, kinda get boring afterwards. Oh damn, after three minutes I notice this song is 15 minutes long. What in the fresh hell. *After 10 minutes I've decided I really dislike Jimi Hendrix's voice - which bodes well for the remaining 12 tracks on this album - and that the guitars are nice, but 10/11 minutes is really my limit. Yeah let's just end this not-so-short-track with 20 seconds of mumbled talking, great, thanks guys! 5. Little Miss Strange - Giving me all the old-school vibes 'came into my parlour'. Cute bop I don't really care about, just grateful it's pretty short 6. Long Hot Summer Night - I like the 'woop woop woop' in the background. Can't help but to hear 'Hot girl summer' - the memes ruined me I fear. 7. Come On (Let the Good Times Roll) - Common theme again: I like the guitar, the vocals and lyrics bore me to death. 8. Gypsy Eyes - Even the guitar is kinda boring in this one. Also the lyrics did not age well... 9. Burning of the Midnight Lamp - Just waiting for this album to end while I'm studying tbh 10. Rainy Day, Dreamy Away - Was the first sound on this track a cough? Ew. So this is just... stoners talking to each other over a funky beat? With one of them sometimes making sounds like he's got at least a cold? I'll pass, thanks. (Nice guitar though). 11. 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) - thirteen fucking minutes!? Are you kidding me right now? Was I just put through almost a minute of wind gushing with cowbells? (11 minutes in: oh my god how is this still the same song, releeeaaase me, please) 12. Moon, Turn the Tides...Gently Gently Away - Again, this is just wind? Damn the hippies were really fucking high when they decided to hype this man up. 13. Still Raining, Still Dreaming - I'm liking the guitar intro. The rest of the track is, again, not capturing my attention. 14. House Burning Down - Just sounds like the rest of the album to me 15. All Along the Watchtower - Nothing really stands out about this one either, except for the fact is has half a billion plays on Spotify and I can't remember ever listening to this before. 16. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - The last track, just five more minutes. What can I say? Hmm.. I like the guitar. Conclusion: two stars for the guitars

He may be an exceptional guitar player, a historic icon and the first for may things that come to mind when thinking about the 70th. Lots of people learned and copied from him. So I give him that. However I could not listen to the whole album. Maybe I need to get stoned first to understand it.

appreciate the good guitar, but just not a rock fan.

At the time of release, I'm sure this was an incredible album, but imo its aged quite poorly. Even ignoring my personal opinion of not really enjoying psychedelic rock, every "guitar solo" I heard just sounded like noodling in the studio

A really high quality extended jam session but noodling on a a guitar is still noodling.

With the notable exception of a couple of songs, I don't really care for a double album of someone taking psychedelics.

Not for me...anymore. I technically should be a Hendrix fan but I'm just a greatest hits hero. Crosstown Traffic is bluesy but the rest and bit stoney...and I don't get stoned any more.

That's a real rough start for an album ngl. I guess I'm just not the biggest fan of that overly distorted sound design. As soon as crosstown traffic hits, it feels like it gets sort of better, but then Vodoo Chile comes up and I feel another deep sigh coming. I think I might just not be getting that "typical" Hendrix sound/style. It just might not be my cup of tea tbf. Not proud to admit it, but I didn't even get through the whole album.

I had to skip Voodoo Chile and 1983! Didn’t listen to Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). I didn’t mind it as much as I thought I would, but not my favorite. Didn’t add any songs to my liked. 1/5 ⭐️

Long songs not good.

Det handlar inte bara om vilka toner som spelas. Lika viktigt är vilka toner som inte spelas. Här finns inga tomrum, ingen chans för musiken att andas. Följdaktligen låter det dött. Det låter som ett kompband som jammar i studion i väntan på artisten. Att eländet breder ut sig över 4 lp-sidor hjälper inte till. Barmhärtigt att flera låtar tonas ut (vissa till och med mitt i versen). Mer obegripligt är det andra låtar tillåts breda ut sig över 14 minuter. Låter som en bootleg med outtakes snare än ett album.

The first track reminded me of the sounds my mom and dad were making while cooking spaghetti noodles and talking when I was tripping balls on mushrooms. That track gets a 5 for the intense feeling of deja vu it produced. The rest of the album is a confused cacophony of great genres who’s parts far exceed the whole.

Another album where I have heard one song and the rest of them doesn't even have close to the same amount of listens combined. While there isn't anything wrong with the other songs most of them are very experimental and from a time which I am not. These things combined gives this album a low score for me. Maybe hearing them in another context would change that but I can't think of when that would be other than in the 60s.

First "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..." and now this... I am being properly bent over by the 1001albumsgenerator when it comes to hour+ albums. FUCK. Alright guys, I'm. I give up. I don't know when I'll review again. I really need to catch up on my 32 album backlog. I really wanted to exist in the present with the 1001albumsgenerator community. I've wanted it so fucking bad. *dog whimper* I just can't do it. I can't TAKE this shit no more, man. All I wanted to do was like I was fucking music-deprived I wanted to fucking put on some music have a good time have a good listen. I hate my life. I was curious to give this one a listen. I've heard good things about Jimi Hendrix, though I don't think I've heard a single song of his in my life despite being a big enthusiast of rock music. I'll chalk it up to him having a shockingly small discography for an artist of his stature and belonging to a decade of music that I don't really care for. I have to admit that I am getting off on the wrong foot with Jimi. I can only think of one hour-long album that I have viewed favourably in the past. It's already impossibly hard to make a single good song as is. The odds of compiling multiple good songs into a cohesive, collective body of music is infinitesimally small and the odds of those good songs making it onto a good hour-long album is pretty much never going to happen. I value brevity, which is what I'm trying to get at in the most unconcise possible fashion. I have been listening to this man for 57 minutes now and I don't really have a feel for his musical style or how he earns the "greatest guitarist of all time moniker". It all just blends together for me between all of the instrumentals that start out cool, intensify, then peel back in order to allow for Jimi's vocals to butt in. His compositions are very reminiscent of 50s/60s jazz, which is something I can understand the broad appeal of, but does not appeal to me as a general manager of disliking jazz music. The guitar performances are very confident, though they're far too subdued for my liking Because this album is so fockinggg long, I have taken to the lab in order to quantify the objective, perfect duration for an album across 14 releases that I hold up as favourites. The longest album on my list was an hour and 14 minutes, whereas the shortest was 33 minutes. The objective, scientifically perfect runtime for an album is 48 minutes and 57 seconds. Not far off from the hour mark, but it matters because it just does... Okay? I didn't notice until the last three tracks that I had been listening to this album entirely though my left ear - my other earbud died on me. Whoops. Uh, I'm not listening to this one again. Sozzo, Jimi. I will make sure my earbuds are fully charged and geared for music consumption when the next album rolls around. Those last three songs were a lot more engaging than the ones I listened to in left-ear mode.

Im not a huge Hendrix fan, and this album illustrates why. Although his guitar skills cannot be questioned, his composition can. Many of these tracks are compilations of wild, and unattached riffs. While many on their own are great, these tracks do not carry a melody. Sounds like random riffs strung together.

Do you like boring songs? This is it. In my opinion this is the most boring album I've heard on this website. One reason I think it is boring is because his voice is sooooooooooooo slow. Another reason is because the instruments just make my tired. So that is why you should not listen to this album.

I really don't like this album. It's just not good. I feel like it's too all over the place. I can't understand what he's saying, and I don't like his music. His voice is too whiny I feel like. I just don't like it. I recommend that you don't listen to this album.

My husband loves this album. I'm not a Jimi Hendrix fan so I'm rating it lower. My nerves don't like the kind of electric guitar Jimi plays but I understand that he's very good on the guitar.

I just never liked Jimi.

Just not my thing. It was like nails on a chalkboard. I never liked his music, but never thought that I gave it a chance. This time I did and regret the hour out of my life. Yes, he's a great guitar player, but as for the completeness of a music offering, I just got nothing.
