1st listen, not impressed. Mostly sounds like an album pulled from a staged musical or something. 2nd listen, starting to hear notes of Iggy Pop and a taste of Josh Homme from QOTSA.

I'm not clever enough to understand what the fuss is with most of Bowie's stuff. As a result I was a bit bored.

what the hell was that intro…. good stuff started at around a minute and 20 into the first track. the lyrics not coming in until around 3 minutes and 20 seconds in was pretty annoying. on the third track and his voice from the start of the album has not been for me. ‘Word on a Wing’ lyrics are super great and the harmonies are appealing. ‘TVC15’ is a super fun track would definitely play it again! ‘Wild Is the Wind’ whooo yess love it! The last songs intro is such a solid one, i just want strut my stuff to thiss! ‘Stay’ is a very bold song to end the album off with. Last half of album was mostly certainly better than the first half.

Didnt listen to to the entire album. What i heard was ok, but nothing i could get very excited about.

neither fun nor interesting, I'm always astounded how many people think he is a great singer when the falsetto parts are absolutely grating. lots of repetitive parts, but the piano here is excellent. this album is at least listenable, which is more than can be said for many of his other works

Don't really enjoy this kind of David Bowie. Among his vast and diverse discorgraphy I enjoy his other albums more. The songs in this album seem to me really long, repetitive and boringly similar to one another. I can appreciate the artistry and maybe I haven't yet reached the point to enjoy or understand this type of music and with time this may be subject to change, but for now it just feels like a chore to listen to. 4/10

The lady can sing! This goes everywhere from rap to what passes as a jazz standard, from a band arrangement to an orchestral accompaniment, from a lead guitar solo to a violin solo, from an R&B vocal to an ethereal chorus sound. The two overtures were good. The last two songs I especially enjoyed. I must admit, this was a very interesting listen. I might even listen to it again.

I feel like I appreciate David Bowie more than I enjoy the actual music. I love how eccentric, theatrical, and (for lack of a better word) "artistic" he was. I just don't really care for listening to the actual music too much unfortunately. To me, it's like seeing a really gorgeous, intricately made, striking piece of clothing at a store that doesn't fit me. I can appreciate it for what it is and the effort and talent put into it, but it's just not something I'd wear.

I kind of expected more out of Bowie. I honestly don’t have that much knowledge of his songbook, but based on his persona and adoring fan base, I figured there would be something I could grab onto here. Unfortunately, there really wasn’t. Nothing bad, per se, but just a bit uninspired.

I knew more Bowie was coming and since we've had about a year in between I suppose I'm ok with it, although his big single from this - "Golden Years" - represents everything I didn't (and don't) like about Bowie growing up, admittedly never delving deep and only ever hearing the singles. What is that? Smooth funk? eh it's awful. "Low" was a true surprise to/for me as it's been the one Bowie album I have truly enjoyed - (mostly) avoiding that weird crooner-style of his that I don't like. I mean... there's no ever getting around the fact that I never liked his vocals, so the only question for me here is whether there's going to be enough interesting around it to catch me (ala "Low"). This starts differently-enough with "Station to Station" which could either be plodding and dull or a mysterious instrumental intro to an experimental work... I'm going with the latter, perhaps reaching for anything nice to say or simply reaching back to my long ago love of long tracks with multiple sections (hat tip: 70s Yes/Genesis). 10 minute cut to lead off the album? Bold. But I still don't connect with this album - I'd say accurately that I (again) prefer the parts where he's not singing and it *sounds* good but it's generally not that interesting; the songs aren't great. It's effortless in not a complimentary way, in a way that it feels like he made little effort. In singing (again i know i beat this horse to death but it's my comment dammit) and in construction. It's almost worse in a way that none of it is really terrible but the songs are just not memorable. I just listened again and what even happened over the last 40 minutes other than i had to endure Golden Years again. That alone just made me a little angry. Once again I pass on Bowie. Fine fine give me the next 8 albums of his....sigh... 4/10 2 stars.

Still can't get into David Bowie. Enjoyed the R to L panning of train sounds in the intro. One standout was the track TCV15. Wouldn't go out of my way to listen the entire album again.

I was excited to listen to a Bowie album I was unfamiliar with, but overall, the experience fell flat. After a promising first several minutes, “Station to Station” started to feel more like a description of the BART ride I had just taken than the title track of an album from a rock legend’s prime. It dragged on, and I was ready to disembark for most of the ride. “Golden Years” may be the most popular song on the record, but now having given it more attention, I appreciate why I don’t go out of my way to listen to it. By “TVC15,” I had gathered what I hope was an intentional stylistic choice throughout the album: Repetition. I’m sure there is an artistic value here, but I personally don’t see it. With the penultimate track, I felt like I was looking less at a song title and more at a command from Bowie himself: Stay! Station to Station is by no means a terrible album, but it is far from Bowie’s best work. Overall, the record reminds me of a fart in the wind. It wasn’t particularly unpleasant, but we all heard it and we probably wish we hadn’t. We can only be thankful that it didn’t linger for long.

Just like Bob Dylan, David Bowie has 7 albums on this list. So just like with Bob Dylan, I'm going to evaluate every Bowie album relative to the other Bowie albums only. This particular album started off strong with the title track, the band is on point, the instrumentals are tight and exciting, Roy Bittan on the piano in particular is outstanding throughout. Bowie's lyrics and vocal melodies however are kinda lazy and seem overly self-indulgent. As the album progresses, it feels like Bowie becomes complacent, as the energy of the first song is not only never matched again, but is often diluted by songs that sound similar but just not as good. The band remains solid, but the funk grooves don't compensate for the middling songwriting. The cover of Wild is the Wind is adequate at best considering who he's covering. Overall, I'd say this album is more for diehard Bowie fans. Two lines of nose candy out of five. 🏔🏔

Best Song: TVC15. Seems like a post-apocalyptic ad for the best rocket launcher money can buy. Worst Song: Station to Station. Maybe it's just my mood right now, but I can't stomach the choice to kick off the album with a 10 minute song that could've been 5. Overall: It certainly sounds very Bowie, but is that enough to warrant the inclusion of all his albums on this list? Surely the rest of the world combined has produced at least a few albums that are better than this.

Station to Station review: An album from the revered David Bowie, I’m pretty jazzed. First song is ten minutes?! Literally said “eff off”. Finish listening to it, and it’s no Frampton comes alive, I’ll tell you that. Golden years was a catchy palate cleanser…but the next four songs just didn’t catch my attention, and overall this album seemed like a bit of a vanity project now that he was at his 10th studio album and into another persona along with a fun drug habit. I might be ADD because I didn’t notice the deep lyrics, and instead found the songs dragging on. I’m sure I missed something though, since I’m told Bowie is ahhh-mayyyy-ziiiingggg

Faded into the background a bit, not much interest in it

Not my type of music. Wild is the wind is a nice tune. Funny to read that Bowie was heavily addicted to cocaine during production and remembers none of the recording. You can somewhat tell from the album from fast paced, to long droning songs with repetitive sound to consistent backing tracks.

The intertwined history of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, in particular, has been illuminating. And what I've learned about this period in Bowie's life and career has been... well... I'm glad he moved past the Thin White Duke. Inventing a character just as outlandish as Ziggy Stardust, albeit in a much more controversial direction, was certainly a choice. It's not a gimmick anyone could get away with in 2022. As far of the music goes, I like it only barely more than I like the Thin White Duke persona. Not saying much. Each song has a little bit of something that I dig, but it's drowned out by too much that's not for me. Bowie's impending return to Europe apparently also came with an interest in krautrock, and early signs of it show in the opener's extended intro which brought back unfortunate memories of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn." "Discussing his flirtations with fascism in a 1980 interview with NME, Bowie explained that Los Angeles was 'where it had all happened. The fucking place should be wiped off the face of the Earth. To be anything to do with rock and roll and go and live in Los Angeles is, I think, just heading for disaster. It really is.'" Well, I'm glad he got out, I guess? And glad he eventually shook the demons he took with him when he left.

No idea why of all the Bowie albums this one is featured on the list. This may be my least favorite of them all and offers little to nothing new or influential compared to other albums.

First time hearing this album. Besides Golden Years, I don't any of the other songs. I really like the Bowie albums that I know.... Since this is a new one for me it might take a few more listens to really enjoy. 2/5 for now. Standouts: Golden Years. Others:: Wild is the Wind.

Meh, I do like some Bowie stuff but sometimes it feels a bit overrated. As though people like it just because its Bowie, not because of its own artistic merit. I also prefer the Nina Simone cover of wild is the wind..

Art rock and funk-infused rock built from hypnotic grooves, layered guitars, elegant keyboards, and detached vocals feels like being trapped on a luxurious train that never seems to Go anywhere—meticulously crafted, atmospheric, and for me ultimately dull. The album's slow-building lengthy compositions are evidently too static to remain engaging.

This music sort of epitomizes my love/hate relationship with David Bowie's music. There is the genius of his earlier works - most notably Ziggy Stardust - some other interspersed classic songs such as "Heroes", "China Girl", etc...and then there's this dreck which was foisted upon us - including one of my all-time love-to-fate songs "Golden Years" (wop wop top). Ugh to this whole disc - time to take it out to the back yard and smash it with a rock...

Didn't enjoy this at all. I felt that if he weren't already famous nobody would be onto this. Jangly and directionless. I don't really like his voice. These are personal taste things, but yeah, not for me. Golden Years and the last track better than the rest but as an slvum it did nothing for me.

Instrumental intro to the first track was so good, though maybe I was about to find a second Bowie album I liked, then his vocals started and just killed it. Least favorite album so far. The bass lines are far and away the best part of this record.

I’ve never really listened to much Bowie, but I know how important he is, so I approached this quite eager to at-least like it. Alas, it bored me to tears.

Oh no. Another David Bowie. I either love his music or I don't and there's not much in between. Given that this is 70s Bowie, I'm probably going to lean toward not caring for it. So far, this is leaning towards the not caring for category. It just gets worse as it goes.... It sorta got better in the end? But not enough to really matter, especially when there's only six songs and most are bad.
