Reviews (page 13 of 13)

Station to Station: I can appreciate dissonance in a song, but I didn't like when the instrumental resolved, but the vocals were dissonant. While I'm sure there is a musical reason for it, I can't see anything for it beyond being on so much cocaine that it just kinda happened. This makes the lyrics "It's not the side effects of the cocaine, I'm thinking that it must be love" all the more ironic. That said, there were things I liked too. There is an instrument (harmonica?) that was faint in the background, but it helped tie everything together very nicely. Golden Years: This is another song where I feel the instrumental far surpassed the vocals. Maybe my problem is that I've never used cocaine and I just don't get it. The rhythm worked really well, and the guitar line was solid. The vocals just didn't work well with the instrumental for me. Word on a Wing: I don't normally listen to funk, but this track seemed more cohesive than the previous two, at least to me. Bowie's vocal delivery was on point for the song. The keyboard supported his voice very well. The subtle use of the organ also fit the theme of the song well. TVC15: This is one of the slowest fast songs I've listened to. It has a quick tempo, but there is so much repetition that it feels like it is moving slow. I guess cocaine could once again be the answer. It would certainly make sense that a stimulant might have that affect. I didn't like or dislike anything about this song enough to be noteworthy. Stay: I truly hated this song. The guitar line felt like it belonged in a hard rock/metal song, but everything else felt like either funk or disco. The vocals felt like they were trying to imitate Earth Wind and Fire, but were out of tune enough to not get that clean effect. The only redeeming aspect of this track is that only half of it has vocals, the rest is instrumental that at least isn't terrible. Wild Is the Wind: I appreciate the message of this song, including the story behind it. I felt tension with the vocals lagging behind the music that I didn't like. Most of the notes were also flat. Maybe it makes the song more relatable to people, I'm not sure. I felt like I was losing my mind, time to go do a line or two I guess. Final thoughts: Each track of this album felt separate, yet it all seems to fit within an album. One of my main critiques of other albums so far has been that they have either been too similar or haven't felt cohesive. While the album felt more like what I would expect, the music within didn't cut it for me. Apart from 1-2 songs that I didn't mind, I genuinely didn't like the music, and 80% of the music I listen to is some form of rock or metal. I'm going to listen to some of my favorite songs to cleanse my palette after this one.

Not my cup of tea

Too theatrical. It was good at parts, but I’m never gonna replay this album

Meh. meh?

Nearly 3 stars. Will probably go back to it.

didn't love-not for me

Not for me.

earache

Ok album, not a huge early Bowie fan!

ok, but not my cup of tea.

Meh...I dont really "get" Bowie. Seems like a club that I can't join. I want to get it but it just leaves me cold, as does all his music.

Another Bowie, probably the fourth within the first 100. Strange. And I’m not even enjoying him so much. Incl. this record.

Golden years and stay are good. Everything else, meh.

Feels like really weak funk for the most part. I don't get it.

Ugh. David…

I used to have an ex that was obsessed with Bowie, to the point that she cried when he died, and said Blackstar is one of her favorite albums ever. Needless to say, I've heard a few of his songs, I'm aware of his work, but it was generally not something I listen to. Even so, I'll see what this is about, as it is clear Bowie has transcended rock stardom. Wiki says the genres of this album are art rock, funk, and R&B, but I can most definitely hear the first two. Word on a Wing - The first song I actually liked from this project. Bowie has a rather.... distinctive singing style, to the point I'm not sure he's even a good singer, but he is an effective vocalist, and this is the first song where the songwriting really connected with me. TVC15 - For some reason this give me the vibe of a NASCAR race in the early 80s, in that it sounds a little country (especially in certain vocal runs/inflections), and the guitar/piano work could have directly been pulled from a country song. On paper the final bridge/outro is rather repetetive, but definitely still works. Stay - The first song on the album where he really sounded like a rockstar. First guitar solo on the album if I'm correct, and Bowie really sangin on this one. I think I would enjoy an album more on this side of his lexicon. Wild is the Wind - A cover song, and unfortunately, my favorite song on the album. I really like Bowie in this aspect, so hopefully I find more from him that is similar to this. I don't forsee myself listening to any of these songs in the future. Best: Stay, Wild is the Wind Worst: Station to Station Overall: 4/6

Boring is the biggest criticism I can throw at this album, I can listen to it but it’s just background music honestly. Bowie has many more better albums than this and this is the first album where I’ve thought should it honestly be on this list

It's ok! No song stood out, It's Bowie though!

Regarded as a classic by many, regarded as overwrought and a bit tedious by me...

Ill be honest the highlight of this album for me was when I accidentally misclicked halfway through Word on a Wing and The Saga Begins started playing. I was honestly tempted to leave it on but hey ho we ride. Yeah idk its alright I guess. The first song I kinda liked, the rest I wasn't massive on, none of it really grabbed me. I can appreciate the elements that went into it, and can hear its influence all over Post-Punk and Art Rock albums to come. But it was just a bit eh. Favourites - Station to Station

Fine album. I really like Golden Years but everything else was not upbeat enough

Gefällt mir nicht wirklich!

Typical overrated Bowie

I've never really liked David Bowie and never understood why people were so obsessed with him. Sure, he was unique, but his music never really made me feel anything really. This album did not change my opinion of him.

Straight up kinda shit ngl. 2nd and third songs were alright but literally everything else was less than mid like straight up dogshit and the last song especially bro sounded like a boogeyman in the night what a fucking pedophile.

Me no likey ☹️👎

I thought I'd enjoy this more than I did but it really didn't do much for me sadly

Wasn't really into it, quite slow. Favourite track: Stay

Was kind of bored I fear. I can appreciate how it sounds objectively good but I think it just wasn't for me. It felt real old and not in a good way.

Didn’t love the vocals and style at all

I found it kind of boring.

I find it both amusing and maddening that I’ve been stuck giving Bowie's albums two stars for over a year. In fact, I constantly enjoy and respect his music. Although these albums have been consistently underwhelming — not terrible enough to deserve one star, but far from good enough to rate higher — the remaining two Bowie albums are my two favourites! The tide is turning! ( ¬ᴗ¬)

Not to be homophobic, but maybe David Bowie just isn't for me.

Not my favorite Bowie album.

2 Sterne

Grand pop album

I usually like Bowie, but this short album felt uninspired and slow/tedious

I enjoyed TVC15. Not a particularly great album though.

Like Bob Dylan, my familiarity with David Bowie and his catalog of music is very scant. The only things I really am familiar with of his are his Ziggy Stardust persona, his song "Space Oddity", and his role as the Goblin King in Labyrinth. This is a legendary artist that I've always wanted to get more into. Overall, I think I liked this record, however I couldn’t really scratch the feeling of a lot of it sounded very Improvised. It kind of sounded like they made really interesting and unique instrumentation and Bowie sort of improvised the lyrics on top of that. Obviously, not actually I’m sure what happened but I couldn’t shake that feeling. Weirdly enough I felt like Bowie’s vocal performance was the worst part about this record. It just seemed like the melody for the vocals did not at all match the instrumentation and it left the songs feeling a little aimless. This album unfortunately didn’t do much for me but I appreciated the talent of everyone involved in the making of this one. Standout tracks on this one are “Station to Station” and “TVC 15”.

Just came up short for me.

Question 1. How many Bowie albums are on this list? Question 2. Am I listening to the same album with a different name? Question 3. Do people think Bowie is great because that's what everyone says.

Not the best Bowie album, but not the worse either

lo siento

No thank you. No matter how many Bowie albums they put on this list, I can't bring myself to like his general sound.

hm, weiß nicht....... Schwanke zwischen 2-3 Sterne, weil kein einziger Song mich gefesselt hat, es aber auch nicht "anstrengend" war. Jedenfalls kein Album woran ich mich lange erinnern werde.

I know I'm supposed to like this, but....

This is the album he was on a lot of drugs when he recorded I think? i think he said he didn’t remember the experience. I unfortunately feel the same but hope the album clicks with me one day.

Another Bowie album. Safe to say I wasn't exactly eager to put this one on. Not the worst one of his, but I didn't like it on the whole It had its moments - I really enjoyed the guitar on Stay! Word On A Wing would have been lovely as an instrumental But why did he sound like a ghost, wailing over these songs?? Was it the coke? Absolutely terrible, and ruined the songs. The other songs were pleasant enough instrumentally, but it was more like background noise I've said it before and I'll say it again - would have scored higher with a different singer. Sorry Bowie fans, he's not for me! 2 ⭐️

With each additional David Bowie album this list makes me listen to, the more confident I become in saying I don't really care about his music. Sorry to all the sensitive students out there who want to be as nonconformist yet popular as him, you can't do that just by listening to his music.

Not my cup of tea.

In my opinion one of the worse albums of Bowie. Can't really find anything special here. "Wild is the Wind" is quite good. All the other songs nothing special.

There is much better Bowie

Don’t really like this era of Bowie. This one certainly shouldn’t be on here. Bowie says he can’t remember recording it because of the drugs - no David, it’s because all the songs are boring. The best one was covered 100x better by Cat Power.

point6.

Not my bag

A self-indulgent slog of an album. Like having a talk with someone on coke.

Sorry if I offend anyone but I am not a fan of Mr Bowie. This has some good tracks, notably 'Golden Years' but I struggle to connect with him. Strange

I think that there might have been some recording interrupting Bowie’s arduous cocaine sessions for this. A staggeringly long 38 minutes of music.

Really not my thing but Golden Years was good. Kind of annoying to be honest lol

It was just fine. Nothing blew my socks off. That's 70's rock for you

Even Bowie can't have listened to as much Bowie as we have on this list....

Usually like Bowie but this one didn’t grab me

unimpressed with this version of Bowie

its ok but eh

ainda não foi dessa vez que eu dei moral pro bowie, cada dia considerando esse mano mais e mais overrated

Another Bowie album, but this time he is a whiny racist? Musically this album is much better than the others. The first track in particular started off really well before Bowie's vocals came in and ruined it for me.

Boring. Not the best Bowie to me.

Eh. This album was fine. A lot of the guitar parts were fun (especially in "Stay") but eh... The song "Station to Station" was good, but I did not really like the introduction. I feel like it's disrespectful to rate a Bowie album this low, but I know there are better albums. Real review of like 1.5 stars Liked Songs: "TVC15" and "Stay"

This list seems to be taking the "you just haven't heard the right album yet" approach to those of us who don't fall all over themselves in adoration of the almighty Thin White Duke. Does this is album change anything? Nope. Even Bowie himself didn't remember making this album. Give it an extra half-star for the only part that really interested me, Earl Slick's brilliant guitar solo on "Stay." Revision: I am taking away that half-star because the Spotify algorithm now thinks that I am some sort of Bowie superfan and has clogged up all of my "Made for You" lists with his music.

Golden years is great. The rest is....not. TVC15 is OK, but this album doesn't do anything for me.

Definitely not one of Bowie's better albums...

I just never could quite get there with David Bowie. But I do appreciate him and there were some songs I thoroughly enjoyed. 2.5

David Bowie + mass amounts of Cocaine = This album that is as fragmented as any Bowie album in existence. Flashes of the past, flashes of the future, but nothing that really leaves any lasting memories. This almost seems like that album that an artist who has already checked out, still owes the record company, that they've lost any love for. Basically, a great album to show young artists, why you should control your chemical desires.

Not gonna lie, this record feels pretty dull. “Golden Years” is not a good song, “Wild Is the Wind” is uneventful, and his vocals are too unmelodic for me to get into on most tracks; Making for music I never felt the urge to sing along to. I’m not too familiar with Bowie’s works, but I imagine this probably isn’t his best record and am sure he has other records on this list that I would enjoy more. Maybe one of those will make me a Bowie fan. Until then, I have no intentions of touching this record again. Favorite track: Stay

Golden Years and Wild is the wind are highlights, otherwise this is skippable Bowie

Struggled with this, wasn't anything to draw me into it. Felt quite low tempo and stripped back for what I'd come to expect from Bowie

This David Bowie album just wasn’t for me.

Didn't like this as much as i thought i maybe would. Sonically, everything feels in place and the album floats by like one long experience as any good albums should, but nothing really sticks. None of these songs are songs I will think of for long. Best song: Station to Statio Worst song: TVC15

Jesus enough fucking Bowie

i see the appeal but not my thing

This is the worst album so far. David Bowie didn't even remember this album as he made it while on a ton of cocaine.

2 - really didn’t get this, thin white duke tho

Pretty boring for a Bowie album

This album just isn't for me. It is alright but it just doesn't catch me

Outside of Golden Years, this doesn't offer up much from Bowie.

Listened to this album three times, I can't remember any songs

Not for me.

This is an uneven album. I love Golden Years but that's not quite enough to get it up to a 3 for me. The crooner-y stuff is not my style.

Bowie kinda lost his fastball after Ziggy for me, and this one goes back and forth between being very interesting and the garden variety Weird Bowie that makes up most of his backlog

not really my favorite bowie era

maybe if david had laid off the coke even a little bit we'd have gotten more "Golden Years" and less "everything else on this album" when we got Aladdin Sane I was already a little curious why that album made the "1001 albums from the whole world in all its history you have to hear" list and this one is lower than that one for me I think this is a situation where anything this guy put out at this time was going to be massively influential on music and fashion, and not really about the album itself being influential or particularly innovative. in the next few years we get some of my favorite tracks and performances but here I just think "hmm yes the time he was storing urine in his fridge because he was in some sort of drug psychosis imagining witches stealing his bodily functions"

Bro cooked something inedible. No wonder he pretended not to have made it. Outro in Stay was nice Golden years, gwa gwa gwa

There are 2 things that I like about this album. 1.) It has Golden Years on it. 2.) It's a short album which is good cuz the rest of it sucks.

One of my least favorites by Bowie

Bowie never did anything for me. I know he was beloved by many, but I could never get it. I think it was his voice, even though there's nothing wrong with it. Maybe it was because of his over the top emotive style. I don't know. The songs are just not interesting to me. Oh well.

Overrated

Wild is the Wind is the only track I sort of was ok with on this.. haven't been much of a Bowie fan over the years and this album's mix of alt and rock and pop didn't change that for me.

No good Bowie song on this album

Not too interesting in my opinion, I loved the production end of things but I felt like the lyrical content didnt appeal to me For someone who has only listened to one previous project of Bowie's, some parts of the projects it was difficult to understand him and I did need to google lyrics. 2/5

Just okay, nothing more nothing less.

Sorry what was this? Really didn't vibe with it at all. Stay had a great guitar section and there were some jazzy moments that wee nicer but overall this didn't grab me at all

Not the best Bowie album

I tried listening twice and it didn't stick with me.

I don't get it. I like Ziggy a lot, but in general, I just don't get Bowie. Obviously, much of music is subjective, so all I can say is that I find this album boring. I wish I could see the genius that others do, but I don't. I'm not saying it's not there, but I just don't hear it.

its a bit whiny

Too slow and boring. Well produced

Golden Years

Never really been a Bowie fan. Someday maybe.

no hits. no stand outs. im sad.

Strange

Didn't love it.

Nein, David Bowie ist mir zu avantgardistisch.

Very overrated

Forgettable

I’m just not a Bowie kinda guy. The talent is there but it isn’t for me.

Surprised not to take anything from this. Didn't hear evidence of Bowie's genius. A lot of the songs felt plodding and unimaginative.

Short album that I thought was just ok

Kinda disappointed, tbh.

Station to Station is a curious concoction, neither fully satisfying nor utterly disappointing. Bowie's exploration of funk, soul, and rock creates a blend that feels disjointed at times. While tracks like the titular Station to Station and Golden Years showcase his innovative musicality, others falter in their execution. The song's lengths can feel indulgent, sometimes overstaying their welcome. It's an album I think that requires patience and multiple listens to fully appreciate its nuances. Overall, Station to Station falls into the realm of mediocrity, failing to reach the heights of Bowie's best work but still offering glimpses of his immense talent. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None

not my favorite album

Alright. Not a big fan.

1st listen, not impressed. Mostly sounds like an album pulled from a staged musical or something. 2nd listen, starting to hear notes of Iggy Pop and a taste of Josh Homme from QOTSA.

I'm not clever enough to understand what the fuss is with most of Bowie's stuff. As a result I was a bit bored.

what the hell was that intro…. good stuff started at around a minute and 20 into the first track. the lyrics not coming in until around 3 minutes and 20 seconds in was pretty annoying. on the third track and his voice from the start of the album has not been for me. ‘Word on a Wing’ lyrics are super great and the harmonies are appealing. ‘TVC15’ is a super fun track would definitely play it again! ‘Wild Is the Wind’ whooo yess love it! The last songs intro is such a solid one, i just want strut my stuff to thiss! ‘Stay’ is a very bold song to end the album off with. Last half of album was mostly certainly better than the first half.

Didnt listen to to the entire album. What i heard was ok, but nothing i could get very excited about.

neither fun nor interesting, I'm always astounded how many people think he is a great singer when the falsetto parts are absolutely grating. lots of repetitive parts, but the piano here is excellent. this album is at least listenable, which is more than can be said for many of his other works

Bowie. He left us with some great music!

got nothing out of this. the drugs rlly got to him on this one

Konzeptalbum, typisch 70er Jahre. Ich mag die Stimme von Bowie einfach nicht.

album de 10 minutos. Ni de lejos lo mejor de David Bowie.

Don't really enjoy this kind of David Bowie. Among his vast and diverse discorgraphy I enjoy his other albums more. The songs in this album seem to me really long, repetitive and boringly similar to one another. I can appreciate the artistry and maybe I haven't yet reached the point to enjoy or understand this type of music and with time this may be subject to change, but for now it just feels like a chore to listen to. 4/10

I can listen to it if I have to, but I think I would normally change the channel pretty quickly if it were on the radio. I would rate it as mediocre.

The lady can sing! This goes everywhere from rap to what passes as a jazz standard, from a band arrangement to an orchestral accompaniment, from a lead guitar solo to a violin solo, from an R&B vocal to an ethereal chorus sound. The two overtures were good. The last two songs I especially enjoyed. I must admit, this was a very interesting listen. I might even listen to it again.

Okay. I hung on through the first track. second was not bad

Not my cup of tea. Songs aren’t catchy or tuneful for the most part, & it’s kind of cold & depressing.

schräg, jaulend, nervig

Choo choo. Was nice and short but I didn't find it that exciting. 2/3*

I hated this album, much slower pace than I like, with the singing style being that whiny British voice “Stay” had a sick guitar solo which was the only the thing I liked about this album Why does the first track have a minute of train noises at the start?? 2/3***

He is still too weird for me. But I see the genius in his music.

I feel like I appreciate David Bowie more than I enjoy the actual music. I love how eccentric, theatrical, and (for lack of a better word) "artistic" he was. I just don't really care for listening to the actual music too much unfortunately. To me, it's like seeing a really gorgeous, intricately made, striking piece of clothing at a store that doesn't fit me. I can appreciate it for what it is and the effort and talent put into it, but it's just not something I'd wear.

Niet Bowies beste werk. Wel heel veel zin om hunky dory weer een keetje van te luisteren. Dus heeft toch iets moois gebracht.

Yeah, this is just kind of fine. I'm wishing it was more rock influenced. I just didn't really like it that much.

Not my favorite. Electro rock was an interesting combo but seemed a bit unjointed. Did enjoy an few individual songs

I kind of expected more out of Bowie. I honestly don’t have that much knowledge of his songbook, but based on his persona and adoring fan base, I figured there would be something I could grab onto here. Unfortunately, there really wasn’t. Nothing bad, per se, but just a bit uninspired.

Meh. I didn't hear anything that really sparked my interest.

Classic 70s vibe. This was the first Bowie album I have ever listened to. About what I expected. Stay was the best song on the album.

Wild is the Wind is the only saving grace for this album.

Quieter for bowie. Solid I guess. 2.5 stars

I knew more Bowie was coming and since we've had about a year in between I suppose I'm ok with it, although his big single from this - "Golden Years" - represents everything I didn't (and don't) like about Bowie growing up, admittedly never delving deep and only ever hearing the singles. What is that? Smooth funk? eh it's awful. "Low" was a true surprise to/for me as it's been the one Bowie album I have truly enjoyed - (mostly) avoiding that weird crooner-style of his that I don't like. I mean... there's no ever getting around the fact that I never liked his vocals, so the only question for me here is whether there's going to be enough interesting around it to catch me (ala "Low"). This starts differently-enough with "Station to Station" which could either be plodding and dull or a mysterious instrumental intro to an experimental work... I'm going with the latter, perhaps reaching for anything nice to say or simply reaching back to my long ago love of long tracks with multiple sections (hat tip: 70s Yes/Genesis). 10 minute cut to lead off the album? Bold. But I still don't connect with this album - I'd say accurately that I (again) prefer the parts where he's not singing and it *sounds* good but it's generally not that interesting; the songs aren't great. It's effortless in not a complimentary way, in a way that it feels like he made little effort. In singing (again i know i beat this horse to death but it's my comment dammit) and in construction. It's almost worse in a way that none of it is really terrible but the songs are just not memorable. I just listened again and what even happened over the last 40 minutes other than i had to endure Golden Years again. That alone just made me a little angry. Once again I pass on Bowie. Fine fine give me the next 8 albums of his....sigh... 4/10 2 stars.

Still can't get into David Bowie. Enjoyed the R to L panning of train sounds in the intro. One standout was the track TCV15. Wouldn't go out of my way to listen the entire album again.

Would be good background carnival music

idk if I listened to the entire thing because it was on shuffle, the only thing worse than a 10 minute song is a 10 minute song I don't like, sorry bowie

Short album, Bowie's songs don't always do it for me.

I wasn't really very interested in any this album and I didn't know any of the songs.

Not my favourite Bowie offering, it's a bit weird even for him, doesn't quite resonate with me properly although it has its moments.

Allt är inte bra som han gjort.

Not Bowie's best work. Not bad just not amazing.

I was excited to listen to a Bowie album I was unfamiliar with, but overall, the experience fell flat. After a promising first several minutes, “Station to Station” started to feel more like a description of the BART ride I had just taken than the title track of an album from a rock legend’s prime. It dragged on, and I was ready to disembark for most of the ride. “Golden Years” may be the most popular song on the record, but now having given it more attention, I appreciate why I don’t go out of my way to listen to it. By “TVC15,” I had gathered what I hope was an intentional stylistic choice throughout the album: Repetition. I’m sure there is an artistic value here, but I personally don’t see it. With the penultimate track, I felt like I was looking less at a song title and more at a command from Bowie himself: Stay! Station to Station is by no means a terrible album, but it is far from Bowie’s best work. Overall, the record reminds me of a fart in the wind. It wasn’t particularly unpleasant, but we all heard it and we probably wish we hadn’t. We can only be thankful that it didn’t linger for long.

I don't know I didn't found it very interesting, but it has such futuristic vibes I enjoyed a little bit.

ehhhh. fun ig but not my vibe.

Just an ok Bowie album

Not bad but not a huge David Bowie fan overall

One massive banger, lots of filler

lite tråkig platta av bowie :/

Bowie can be a bit hit and miss for me. This was more miss than hit soz

It was alright. With the various Bowie albums in the 1001 list, I haven't found any of them to be overall brilliant, mostly a couple of stand out tracks on each. Golden Years was good on this one.

I thought Bowie was supposed to be good

Golden years is a banger. Everything else was musically decent filler.

I don’t enjoy a lot more Bowie than I thought I would, to be honest.

Weird and lovely but I think it’d take more listens to really sink my teeth in. I think Bowie must have been in an off period for this. He seems a little unsatisfied with it himself. (Prior listen)

Very standard Bowie. Station to Station is solid. The rest is okay at best

Not feelin' it.

Not that interesting to me.

Okay, nothing notable

its giving musical theater (derogatory)

Perinteisesti totean ”ihan ok”

Just like Bob Dylan, David Bowie has 7 albums on this list. So just like with Bob Dylan, I'm going to evaluate every Bowie album relative to the other Bowie albums only. This particular album started off strong with the title track, the band is on point, the instrumentals are tight and exciting, Roy Bittan on the piano in particular is outstanding throughout. Bowie's lyrics and vocal melodies however are kinda lazy and seem overly self-indulgent. As the album progresses, it feels like Bowie becomes complacent, as the energy of the first song is not only never matched again, but is often diluted by songs that sound similar but just not as good. The band remains solid, but the funk grooves don't compensate for the middling songwriting. The cover of Wild is the Wind is adequate at best considering who he's covering. Overall, I'd say this album is more for diehard Bowie fans. Two lines of nose candy out of five. 🏔🏔

Best Song: TVC15. Seems like a post-apocalyptic ad for the best rocket launcher money can buy. Worst Song: Station to Station. Maybe it's just my mood right now, but I can't stomach the choice to kick off the album with a 10 minute song that could've been 5. Overall: It certainly sounds very Bowie, but is that enough to warrant the inclusion of all his albums on this list? Surely the rest of the world combined has produced at least a few albums that are better than this.

Station to Station review: An album from the revered David Bowie, I’m pretty jazzed. First song is ten minutes?! Literally said “eff off”. Finish listening to it, and it’s no Frampton comes alive, I’ll tell you that. Golden years was a catchy palate cleanser…but the next four songs just didn’t catch my attention, and overall this album seemed like a bit of a vanity project now that he was at his 10th studio album and into another persona along with a fun drug habit. I might be ADD because I didn’t notice the deep lyrics, and instead found the songs dragging on. I’m sure I missed something though, since I’m told Bowie is ahhh-mayyyy-ziiiingggg

Faded into the background a bit, not much interest in it

Not my type of music. Wild is the wind is a nice tune. Funny to read that Bowie was heavily addicted to cocaine during production and remembers none of the recording. You can somewhat tell from the album from fast paced, to long droning songs with repetitive sound to consistent backing tracks.

T3B 1. Station To Station 2. Wild Is The Wind 3. Word On A Wing

Golden Years only

Individual songs are way too long and repitive to be of much interest.

Boring

Tracks are OK but too repetitive, songs could have been compressed 50% and still had the same sound and avoided the boredom that creeps in.

NOT GET IT

Hohum listen

Disappointing.

https://timeline.com/the-cocaine-fueled-fascist-who-almost-destroyed-david-bowie-46bf936e3035 https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/rock-star-david-bowie/ "Station to Station" declares “the return of the Thin White Duke." But also, thankfully, the end of the Thin White Duke. My music education has many gaps, with the 70s being the biggest void. With the 1001, I am slowly filling in those gaps, and connecting the dots. The intertwined history of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, in particular, has been illuminating. And what I've learned about this period in Bowie's life and career has been... well... I'm glad he moved past the Thin White Duke. Inventing a character just as outlandish as Ziggy Stardust, albeit in a much more controversial direction, was certainly a choice. It's not a gimmick anyone could get away with in 2022. As far of the music goes, I like it only barely more than I like the Thin White Duke persona. Not saying much. Each song has a little bit of something that I dig, but it's drowned out by too much that's not for me. Bowie's impending return to Europe apparently also came with an interest in krautrock, and early signs of it show in the opener's extended intro which brought back unfortunate memories of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn." "Discussing his flirtations with fascism in a 1980 interview with NME, Bowie explained that Los Angeles was 'where it had all happened. The fucking place should be wiped off the face of the Earth. To be anything to do with rock and roll and go and live in Los Angeles is, I think, just heading for disaster. It really is.'" Well, I'm glad he got out, I guess? And glad he eventually shook the demons he took with him when he left.

No idea why of all the Bowie albums this one is featured on the list. This may be my least favorite of them all and offers little to nothing new or influential compared to other albums.

First time hearing this album. Besides Golden Years, I don't any of the other songs. I really like the Bowie albums that I know.... Since this is a new one for me it might take a few more listens to really enjoy. 2/5 for now. Standouts: Golden Years. Others:: Wild is the Wind.

curious & excited cause its my first bowie. a little afraid. took elvis costello to have me realize i like elvis better.

6 canciones y 38 minutos.

Weird and lovely but I think it’d take more listens to really sink my teeth in. I think Bowie must have been in an off period for this. He seems a little unsatisfied with it himself.

Meh, I do like some Bowie stuff but sometimes it feels a bit overrated. As though people like it just because its Bowie, not because of its own artistic merit. I also prefer the Nina Simone cover of wild is the wind..

I do not like david bowie that much.

Not bad

Unsure what to make of this one, there are flairs of the Bowie charm here and there but the tracks feel too disparate to form any kind of cohesive LP.

Over rated

It's fine.

Golden Years was the obvious highlight, the rest of the album felt like generic Bowie noises and forgetful accompanying music

Felt old listening to this. Music was enjoyable but nothing I would seek out

I find Bowie to be overrated. I don't find this really all that enjoyable to listen to, it doesn't make me want to come back to it either. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one.

it was fine :/ idk i kinda don't get the hype around bowie, i might be cringe tho, that's likely. it sounds like he says dababy in golden years

Second Bowie album for me from this list now and neither have done much for me, starting to think he probably ain't my bag. Best track: Golden Years

Nice songs but doesn't really go anywhere. Best track word on a wing.

i really am a bowie greatest hits kind of guy. not in to this at all.

Can’t fault some of the music but quite dull and Bowie’s voice doesn’t suit quite a lot of it - one great song from six

2/5 not especially good tbh

Zijn image, zijn fashion sense en zelfs zijn acteerwerk was te pruimen (Twin peaks, Labyrinth), maar die muziek... eigenlijk nooit iets aan gevonden. Omdat ie zo cool is, toch 2 sterren.

Mwah, iets teveel Bowie de laatste tijd. Vond dit ook niet zo super eerlijk gezegd. Iets te wazig ofzo

Ophouden met David Bowie nu!

didn't really stand out IMO

Pretty lame

None of the songs were crazy awesome.

I know people love him but this album was terribly boring.

Not for me

Oldie pop radio music cool drums sometimes horrible overdubbed vocals funky but bland 3/10

A couple great songs and the rest is forgettable at best.

Art rock and funk-infused rock built from hypnotic grooves, layered guitars, elegant keyboards, and detached vocals feels like being trapped on a luxurious train that never seems to Go anywhere—meticulously crafted, atmospheric, and for me ultimately dull. The album's slow-building lengthy compositions are evidently too static to remain engaging.

Wasn't for me

Artista totalmente sobrevalorado en davíd arquito. Sus mejores actuaciones están precisamente en el cine y no en la música. Qué disco de mierda además!

Fuck david bowie

Ah. 1001 Davie Bowie albums to listen to before you die. No.

Not another Bowie album PLEASEEE 😭😭 I just cannot get behind his music. He is an artistic and creative genius though.

i listened to this before daniel told me it was inspired by the demons so that’s really awkward i’ll give it one star in solidarity

Like all of Bowie's music, this album is tedious. I don't see what people who like him see.

0/10 Fav: -

5th David Bowie album so far. Out of 500. Didn't listen. Automatic 1. Sorry David.

Idk not a big fan. Was getting annoyed listening to it. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood but I tried it again second time and still didn’t feel like it was hitting for me.

1. ztation -1 2. golden - 2 3. uuing -1.5 4. tv - 1 5. ztay - 1 6. uuild - 1.5

Golden years is lovely. Piano accompaniment in TVC15 was cringe. The rest is ok.

Seriously hate bowie music

Boring and annoying

This music sort of epitomizes my love/hate relationship with David Bowie's music. There is the genius of his earlier works - most notably Ziggy Stardust - some other interspersed classic songs such as "Heroes", "China Girl", etc...and then there's this dreck which was foisted upon us - including one of my all-time love-to-fate songs "Golden Years" (wop wop top). Ugh to this whole disc - time to take it out to the back yard and smash it with a rock...

Didn't enjoy this at all. I felt that if he weren't already famous nobody would be onto this. Jangly and directionless. I don't really like his voice. These are personal taste things, but yeah, not for me. Golden Years and the last track better than the rest but as an slvum it did nothing for me.

Please!!! No more Bowie records.

I am not a fan.

Nah not for me

I mean... Honestly, all this site seems to show me is David Bowie, and quite frankly I am NOT a fan of David Bowie. I do not get it. And it's not that it's out of context, of another time, because I like tons of stuff from another time. It's just... I don't like it. Pretentious, whingy, not good

Instrumental intro to the first track was so good, though maybe I was about to find a second Bowie album I liked, then his vocals started and just killed it. Least favorite album so far. The bass lines are far and away the best part of this record.

I’ve never really listened to much Bowie, but I know how important he is, so I approached this quite eager to at-least like it. Alas, it bored me to tears.

1/5 fuck Bowie

I just think overall David Bowie is boring. I love his voice though and appreciate his art.

Awful very poor and dull

This ain't my bag baby

I've definitely heard of Depeche Mode, but I had thought they sounded very different than this for some reason. It isn't really my jam. Solid album outside of that, though

Not loving it. I have a hard time with David Bowie most days. Golden Years it the only real standout.

I’m not into this album. I love so many of his songs, just not these.

only thing worth listening to is "Stay"

2/6 songs added to playlist Best song: TVC15

Oh no. Another David Bowie. I either love his music or I don't and there's not much in between. Given that this is 70s Bowie, I'm probably going to lean toward not caring for it. So far, this is leaning towards the not caring for category. It just gets worse as it goes.... It sorta got better in the end? But not enough to really matter, especially when there's only six songs and most are bad.

nie no ten Bowie to jakies gowno, drugi album do bani

I just don’t like this coke head! Nor do I like his music. Never have. Sorry!

I don't get Bowie and still don't. Is it 'quirky' music for the masses? Do I need to be on drugs? It sparks nothing inside me

I wasn’t moved by this album at all.

Not a fan

Genre: pop rock Instruments: 2/5 Modern Translation: 2/5 Dance Potential: 1/5 Listening Location: desk at work Favourite Song: NA Made me feel: love a short album but this whole thing sounded the same and I don’t love electric guitar as it is.

This isn't the best of Bowie

David Bowie is massively overrated outside of his few radio hits. He’s proof that if you throw enough shit at the wall, eventually something will stick.

Not the biggest Bowie fan.

Está na segunda música e eu já estou achando horrivelmente chato. Horrível. Pior merda que eu já ouvi

Recognized one, maybe two songs from the radio but not my style at all.

Not a fan. Recognized 1 song from radio but way too quirky overall.

i always heard golden years at my retail job, never did i once think to my self “damn who sings this, its such a good song? i want to hear more.” his voice sounds short of nails screeching on a chalk board. not for me.

Just don't really get or like Bowie.

I guess what I'd expect from David Bowie's quirkiness and style of music. Talking heads vibes (I'm not sure who came first - that's okay) Not really my thing either.

Wasnt impressed, heavy background noise
