Reviews (page 2 of 14)
First time actually listening to blues mixed with rock and I fall in love with it. This is one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard in my entire life.
The Only One, Too Afraid to Love, Sinister Kid, Unknown Brother, These Days Keep My Name Outta Your Mouth are worth remembering. There were a few songs that were "lame" but most are worth runing in the background for a blues/Rock themed session(Everlasting Light, Im Not the One, Never Gona Give You Up, Howlin for You, Long Gone, Chop and Change, Black Mud I&II, Tighten up ) . 9/10 (upon second listen)
A cathartic listening experience - they really have a unique sound and so nice to hear some times I've not heard for a while!
This is a great album, I really enjoyed listening to it while driving in the evening. It gives me tons of nostalgia for 2010s. This is peak late-night music.
really enjoyable! I really liked it, rockin'
Yesssss loved it
So good!!
I like the Black Keys quite a bit and this is my favorite album of theirs. A bit of a mix of their blues rock stuff and some psychedelic influence too
This record was everywhere when it came out. I have fond memories of walking my dog listening to this on my iPod Nano. Still I hadn’t listened to the Black Keys in years and this was a fun stroll down memory lane.
Too Afraid to Love You".
Now this is my kind of music. No skips. Could be happy hearing any of these in the background.
Just great music. Good, laid-back rock that really gets you in the mood
Five listens in and still going. That's the review, really — but I'll elaborate. Brothers came out in 2010, which matters: it's upstream. The same raw, blues-rooted fuzz that runs through All Them Witches, King Buffalo, The Murlocs — The Black Keys were already there, doing it with just two people making far more noise than two people should. Dan Auerbach's voice, the minimal approach, the honest dirt of it. You can hear where a lot of what came later learned to walk. It's also the album I'd put on for someone I want to introduce to my taste without hitting them in the face with a heavy bong in a mosh pit. The entry point. The thing that gets you to the door before you find out what's behind it. 5/5 — belongs in my world.

Love this one
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I had friends that really liked this album, I know a bit of it that plays on the radio How do I feel about this artist? I used to be a little biased against them because I’m a big Jack White fan and they had beef for a while. But that fued ended a while ago and I have since been enjoying some of their hits on the radio. First impressions (before listening): I think I’ll enjoy it based off of the radio hits. I always thought this album cover was stupid, but I guess there was a strategy behind it. Cooper Black is always fun to see on an album, it really stands the test of time. Favorite track(s): Tighten Up, Howlin’ For You Overall Thoughts: I liked this as much as I like the radio hits. The album overall is very solid.
I already really really loved this album.
They’ve got a sound‼️
Spectacular album. Fast, slow, happy, sad. A full rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Instrumental was ok. One other song was alright. Rest of the album was incredible. Brothers is why I love The Black Keys.
Reminds me of a better Cold War Kids.
mükemmel
Brothers feels like cruising through dusty roads with massive guitar riffs blasting confidently, sounding cool, energetic, and effortlessly stylish while every song somehow keeps the momentum alive, making you want to nod along constantly and immediately replay the album once it finally ends afterward again.
music is love
Classic
Goated album.
The band you want playing when you walk into a quality establishment to drink a beer and shoot some pool.
This album is great from start to finish. I actually just revisited a lot of their discography recently, and this was the first album I went to. They really lock in their modern blues-rock sound here and execute it just about perfectly.
Es un graaaaan álbum, es sensual, vulnerable. Toca muchas fibras y tiene demasiadas joyas
Zero skips. Only one song on there I didn’t love, The Go Getter. Every other song was impeccable vibes. Need on vinyl.
Blues rock from the 2010s, my prime music years. Love it!
All songs
Just some good ol' blues rock: simple and straight to the point. 4.5 bumped up to 5.
Just banger after banger with this one. I’ll admit that I was probably the target audience for this album though. They play great modern blues and switch it up just enough. I also love the Halloweeny keyboard that is peppered throughout.
Actually peak. one of the best albums ive ever heard. It's so gritty and full of emotion and energy. The bridge of Howlin' for you is so ethereal its insane.
The Black Keys used to be THE band, man. How did they fall off so hard after El Camino?
Has an instrumental song i like.
I listened to this album as I went about an incredibly productive Sunday afternoon: doing chores, running errands, and spending time with my mom. For some reason, I had gone into this album with the impression that the Black Keys were a sellout band; that's vaguely the talking point I remember reading about time in passing. On one hand, I could see where such a feeling would come from: the sound captured by the Black Keys, at least on this album, is not too dissimilar from the coproratized brand of pop rock that would soundtrack truck commercials throughout the 2010s. I'm even fairly certain I recognize the song Howlin' For You from an advertisement. However, I have two rebuttals to this idea. The first: I will never hold the typical associations of a genre against individual albums within it, as music can be worth more than the reputation its peers have acquired. And the second: I've always kinda liked that corporate brand of rock anyway. And even then, I still believe the Black Keys have much more character and quality instrumentation than those artists typically do. This album brings electronic flourishes to early soul-tinged rock, with lyricism which would fit right at home in the Delta blues; early every guitar riff or piano run is an earworm that I couldn't help but hum along too. Only after listening to this album did I look back into what other big hits the band had, and I realized I've already been a huge fan of their work without realizing it; I'm incredibly glad to have officially been made a fan. Highlights: Everlasting Light, Next Girl, Tighten Up, Howlin' For You, She's Long Gone, Black Mud, The Only One, Too Afraid to Love You, Sinister Kid, The Go Getter, I'm Not the One, Unknown Brother, These Days

♥️♥️♥️
Never been an avid fan of The Black Keys. Wasn't expecting much from this, but it turns out their music is great heard in succession. This was a very pleasant surprise of an album, and rises to the ranks of 5/5.
One of the greats.
When I was a little tiny baby boy I used to be one of those annoying "they don't make music like they used to" kinda kids who always thought he was better than everyone else for listening to "Real Music™" and that anything made after the 90s had a 98% chance to be awful. This album was a turning point for me. It's not something that's insanely impressive. It's not crazy technical guitar, the drums aren't revolutionary, and the songwriting isn't particularly special to me. But there's something about this album that taught me not to be like that. I immediately fell in love with the nasty garage feel they put into this album. It felt rushed and refined at the same time to me and it made me appreciate a sloppier style of playing that I had previously disregarded.
A formative album for me in high school, one that built a bridge between the classic rock that I was catching up on and the modern sounds in the genre. This was such a good record for a young guitar player, as I learned every riff and tried to dial my best shot at the inventive octave, tremolo, and oscillating fuzz tones on the tiny LCD screen of my Line 6 Spider amp. It still sounds solid, but to a 9th grade boy this was especially cool and taste-shaping. It was also pretty popular and accessible enough to enjoy it with both my friends and my dad. It’s a five because of the nostalgia, its impact on my exploration of music, and that it’s still pretty good.
I loved Attack and Release when it came out so I was psyched when they announced this album would be releasing on my birthday. My friends and I would listen to this constantly while we aimlessly drove around our quiet town. Later that year we saw the band live and it was an incredible show. Soon after that it seemed like these songs were inescapable. I got tired of it pretty quickly, and by the time El Camino came out I decided I had grown tired of these guys. Now that I’m older I’d probably give this album a 3 but listening to it again made me remember being a stupid kid. 5 stars.
Love it. Already loved it. Just a reminder that this album is so good.
Underrated album P.S. Best while high
Awe yeah
Banger, start to finish. Never tire of this one, and it just keeps getting better.
G’wan the two boyz
Forgot how good this album is
This one has a freshness to its sound that I think their more recent albums lacks.
Loved the classics I knew from this album but discovered a few new favorites. Love the bluesy driven melodies. Guitar riffs that blend with the bass line. Really liked this one
Awesome!!!
Ja gewoon awsome
Wicked album by a band keeping the spirit of rock alive. I don't know their names or anything about the, but I know they make great rock music. Just a good collection of gritty rock.
Tremendous album.
God yes finally my first 5 star! This album is probably one of my most listened to for a good number of years, it was instrumental I think in my transition to slower genres of rock and indie. This was also the album that got me into The Black Keys. I absolutely love it and every track is brilliant! So good to listen to it again after a good while
I loved this. Great beat, awesome if you’re doing housework or going for a walk and want something fun and lively. Some might think the songs sound monotonous with the same synth and drum lines, but I’m a new fan.
Loved it! Catchy songs that don’t sound generic. Amazing album.
Legendary LP
Amazing. All of their albums are 5 stars
The first of the mature albums from The Beatles. Wonderful, groundbreaking.
good for background nice and mellow relaxing different rhythms which I like
Obvs I love this. Makes me feel effortlessly cool (because I forst listened to this when I was 13)
hell yeah, loved being able to get back into the black keys. very good, very fun. album art though? where is it?
Was one of my fav albums from 8th grade through high school. Everlasting Light, The Only One and Never Gonna Give You Up are my favs after my revisit. Would give it 4.5 out of 5 but was not an option, so 5 it is ig
Always a favourite
Fantastic album. Listened to it twice, back to back.
January 9, 2026 (Friday) Album of the Day: Brothers (2010) - The Black Keys Found out about this website from my co-worker Allie Collier. Thought I would try it out. (1/12/2026) Didn't actually listen to this album until Monday. Really good album, generally a type of music I like. Great way to start the day. Favorite Song: Ten Cent Pistol
Best one yet. 5/5 x
Favorite track: Everlasting Light Least favorite track: Black mud (it's not bad i just like me some lyrics!!!) Thoughts: the switch up in Tighten Up at ~2.35 was fckin awesome. i felt it in my bones. The Only One is beautiful - i love the sweet folksy nature of the vocals and overall production of this song in contrast to most of the other songs on the album. Too Afraid to Love You is giving me Dracula vibes with that harpsichord - wasn't expecting that from these guys for some reason, but not disappointed! I knew i was gonna like Never Gonna Give You Up within the first 20 seconds of the song. Overall banger album - the Black Keys have such a nostalgic and unique sound that I'll always have a soft spot for.
One of my favorite albums. Great example of blues rock, takes me back to a magical night at kingston mines in chicago.
banger of a find for me. I love Alabama Shakes and there are quite a few songs on here that remind me of them.
Summer, hot sun burning on your skin you just want a water to drink and forget this hot weather and than this album comes ahh feeling
I love this album. Since a longe time ago.
Loved it
OK who gave permission for the Black Keys to have an entire album of bops and bangers?? Like, some of these lyrics are the best I've heard before--witty and engaging and not over-the-top. The guitar hooks are catchy and delightful. The Black Keys are able to bring together a classic rock seventies sound (like Led Zeppelin) with a modern aughts rock sound (like Kings of Leon) to 2010. I just could not stop listening to Brothers, and if that's not a sign an album is worthy of a 5, I don't know what is.
Always good
Think White Stripes but more polished. Sort of at the point where Jack White sold out. There’s blues and jammy feels and good choruses. These guys have it down. Another album where a person would be hard pressed to not like it even just a little bit. Choice cut: Howling for You
A regular listen
fever is such a banger
YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY!
Car commercial music. They’ve also got a great blues sound and catchy lyrics
Perfect album, no skips, love this band!
used to be a favorite in college
Great album
I loved it! Great album!
One of the best of their albums.
I've listened to this album 50 times before and seen them in concert. One of my favorites.
Top top
The best album from The Black Keys. Love the sound of this album and the lyrics are so rich and memorable.
Fantastic album all the way through
I think this is The Black Keys version of Metallica's Black Album...this is where they went fully mainstream. Like Metallica losing most of their thrash and aiming towards a larger audience, this is where The Black Keys stopped being just two guys hammering out white boy blues and went for a full band sound. I can't fault musicians for cashing in, I think most people would do the same if given the opportunity to do so. But if someone absolutely had to include a Black Keys on this list, I'd have gone with Thickfreakness or Rubber Factory instead of this. And for my money, nothing they released after this is worth listening to, maybe with the exception of El Camino. Anyway, I was a big fan of theirs back in the day and I listened to this album a lot when it came out. I didn't mind the stylistic shift but it's an album that's fallen by the wayside for me over the years...and maybe that's because The Black Keys have fallen by the wayside for me since everything after El Camino has been played once or twice and never been played again. I'm rambling, but this feels right, this feels familiar. Next Girl is one of my favorites of theirs, Tighten Up, Howlin' For You, She's Long Gone, all great. Forgot how much I liked Black Mud, the mid-album instrumental. I think my only real complaint with this album is that its a bunch of mid-tempo songs. It's not a slog, but it's more subdued and that's fine. That, and they front-loaded the first half of the album. The second half is still good, but not as strong as the first. Unknown Brother is the weakest track on the album, it should have been left on the cutting room floor and maybe These Days, too. That said, I can't help but give this a 5. Maybe not for this particular album, but because it makes me think about a happy time in my life when I was excited to get this album, played it a ton and was really into the Black Keys. If anything, this makes me want to go back and listen to their previous work...especially the lesser known Chulahoma, the Junior Kimbrough tribute EP. And maybe because I had to listen to the absolutely terrible Bjork album yesterday, this was very much welcomed.
Nije Lana luda...
Already knew I would like this one, but WOW did I like it! Great album with good flow and not one mid track!
Just amazing
This is a fantastic album
Great album. Black Keys have a unique sound that holds up against any band. Thoroughly enjoyable and worth multiple listens.
This probably a biased 5 because they're one of my favorite bands, but gosh it's good
Amazing.
Reminds me of my early 20s
Just all around good.
I wouldn’t listen to it in entirety often, but I dig this kind of rock. 4.5 stars
I loved this album back when it came out and I still love it. The bluesy rock is great and there are so many tracks that stand out.
What a fantastic album. Mix of alternative and blues so of course it’s getting 5 stars from me.
Nostalgia + pure thickfreakness
One off my most favorite albums.
Excellent album
Love everything about this. The Black Keys are modern blues rock and belong here. I would be surprised if the Keys get more than one album here (although they are more deserving than a half-dozen duel or even triple album artists I've come across, they are objectively only deserving of one album), so my criticism is that it should be El Camino. An argument could be made for Thickfreakness over Brothers as well. Still, I love me some blues rock, these guys are it, and the live shows are awesome. Influencec 4. Hits 5. Quality 4. I love this shit 5.
great, simple funky rock. catchy beats and fun vocal performance. one of may favorites.
Dude this is like the GOAT album for garage rock
Real good. Listened to this one a lot
I love the Black Keys. I'm going to try to be unbiased, but with the first notes of Everlasting Light, I know this is a five star album. Every song is good, Next Girl, Tighten Up, Howlin' for You...they're all awesome. The drums from Howlin' for You remind me of Rock and Roll, Part 2 by Gary Glitter. Sinister Kid is one of my favorite songs, not just from the Black Keys. A sinister kid/Is a kid who/Runs to meet his maker/A drop dead sprint from the day he's born/Straight into his maker's arms/And that's me, that's me/The boy with the broken halo/And that's me, that's me/The Devil won't let me be is a great chorus. It's stupid but I also love the album cover. Great band, great album.
Great album - good to learn a fab new band thx!
It was good, the black keys have a husky vibe. The songs were nice sounding, I recognised quite a few of them. Very enjoyable.
A mix of old school blues and stoner rock like no other. Energy and soul!
Banger after banger after banger, literally belt this shit out every time I listen.
Great album, top to bottom! Nearly flawless for my tastes and sadly the last of their album I can say that for. I do miss the duo days. Then again, I miss Richard Swift. 4.5/ 5
Always the best
Lol, all the WhItE pPl mAkInG BlAcK pPL's mUSic takes are so stale. We get it, you went to college. One used to learn how to have an original thought there. Album is great. Deserves to be on this list, but not the only one. Still a crock that Neil Young has 9 albums on this list. Thickfreakness, Rubber Factory, Magic Potion, Chulahoma, El Camino, Turn Blue. All better than anything Young ever did. The obvious gen Z / Millennial reviews are getting worse than the boomers. Jfc
Good Stuff. FAVs: Tighten Up, Too afraid to love
One of my faves…
4.5
This album is great.
Dit kenn ick
Still grated album i appreciate the second half of the album more as well Fav tracks: The only one, unknown brother, next girl, everlasting light
I’m a fan of their entire catalog for the most part, but this is definitely the one that first drew my attention. I’ve read comparisons to the White Stripes since they’re both power-duos, but the Keys seem to project a bit less hipster and a bit more blues.
Such a cool album. Great stuff.
Tighten Up and listen to this! It’s Howlin’ for You!
Best Black Key album of their collection. This is when they hit their peak.
Nostalgia from the 2010s Favorite track: tighten up other picks: howling for you, everlasting light, she's long gone, sinister kid
A departure from their early blues garage rock sound, less raw and more polished, think they got the balance right.
Done
This is the 174th album I’m rating. I only know them because Lebron likes them. Probably because they're from Akron. Adding to my Playlist - Everlasting Light, Next Girl, Tighten Up, Howlin' for You, She's Long Gone, Black Mud, The Only One, Too Afraid to Love You, Ten Cent Pistol, Sinister Kid, The Go Getter, I'm Not the One, Unknown Brother, Never Give You Up, and These Days. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Howlin' for You - I know this song. I wonder where I heard it. Probably 2k. All in all I liked 15/15 songs. The Black Keys are pretty basic but I like basic.
Cool, catchy, modern rock. Nothing revolutionary but really enjoyable. Some great riffs and the vocals match the music very well. For such a big album I was surprised to only recognize Howlin' For You. Also I really enjoy the start of Too Afraid to Love You. It sounds like a nasty beat for a rap track and I was half-expecting a sick verse to come in but it was just the usual singing. Favorites: Tighten Up, Howlin' For You, Too Afraid to Love You
This has completely flown past me, but wow, what an album. I really like the swamp blues feels I get, mixed with grunge and distortion. Works really well. The album takes off straight from the get-go with a stellar intro track in 'Everlasting Light'. Really nice groove and overall rhythm to it. The singing complements and works great with the instrumental as well. While the following tracks after were good as well, the formula repeated itself a bit for a while, but then came 'The Only One' which had some oriental vibes to it, and completely flipped it around. Probably my favourite track of the record. In summary this record took me completely by surprise. It rarely happens that I instantly like something when hearing it first time, but this was one of those records. Really impressed!
The Black Keys. What a great band for times like these. I think that El Camino is their best album, but Brothers were their peak of creativity. I'd like to listen to more bands like this on mainstream.
The Black Keys have two prefect albums and this is one of them.
album cover, songs, length, genre all top tier.
A bit surprised I ended up here, but it's one great song after the next. This is the Black Keys at their stripped-down, tight best.
There are albums that define a moment in time—and then there’s “Brothers”, which transcends it. Released in 2010, this powerhouse from The Black Keys isn’t just a record; it’s a gritty, sweaty, soul-drenched experience that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. From the haunting organ swell of “Everlasting Light” to the deep, bluesy swagger of “Next Girl,” Brothers hits like a bourbon-soaked sermon. Dan Auerbach’s guitar work feels raw and urgent, like it’s clawing its way out of an Alabama juke joint, while Patrick Carney’s drums punch and rumble like thunder rolling through a rust belt skyline. It’s garage rock, it’s soul, it’s delta blues—it’s a genre cocktail that somehow never spills. “Too Afraid to Love You” aches in all the right ways, soaked in vintage synths and regret, while “Tighten Up”—the breakout track—proves that a whistle and a stomping groove can still start a fire. And then there’s “Ten Cent Pistol,” a noir tale of betrayal that sounds like it was recorded through the walls of a dive bar at midnight. What sets Brothers apart is its authenticity. It’s unpolished, deliberate, and oozing with character. It feels like the band locked themselves in a desert motel room with old amps, a case of beer, and some ghosts—and came out with something timeless. Fierce, fuzzy, and unapologetically soulful, Brothers is a modern classic that cemented The Black Keys as more than revivalists—they’re torchbearers. If you’ve got a pulse and a speaker, this album will find its way into your bones.
Lovely album
This isn't a sound I would pick for myself, but I like it!
Fantastic! So much energy! Immediately saved album.
The high energy songs are all front loaded but otherwise this is fantastic. Big booming drums and overloaded guitars, bluesy vocals. Looked up Dan Auerbach and his solo stuff is great too. The criticism of Black Keys is that the drums are too simple and similar from song to song but I very much liked this as a rock album that does what it does very well.
Love everything about this album and this band. Just doing their own thing in a world ruled by disposable pop. One of the few current acts that will keep me listening for years to come!
I don’t get some of the reviews here - rated 3.6 at the moment, but 75% of the top reviews are absolutely ragging it. I really enjoyed this - a really good rock album, and one I will definitely be coming back to great stuff.
Great
Excellent album. No bad songs and 5 or 6 absolute bangers. Their best album among many great ones.
Great album by one of the greatest indie rock bands. So many hits from this album already have a permanent home on one of my best playlists. So... Yeah, it's great and I recommend it.
This is my most ideal album
Classic at this point, loaded with fun songs.
Amazing. They've tapped into the best of 60s and 70s rock to create a rhythm that fits my heart. 4.5/5
Not perfect, but a real heavy hitter. This is among my favorite albums of all time.
Hell yeah, The Black Keys. I have loved this group since I heard Lonely Boy for the first time, and Brothers is so quintessentially them. Bluesy, rocky, muddy, skunky, all things I would say make The Black Keys a band I could listen to all the time and they always make me feel real cool.
my cuppa tea
Really great album with modern blusey sound. One of my favorites from this era, although El Camino is probably my favorite Black Keys album. If anything, it’s a little long and you could probably cut a song or two.
Here is a a perfect example of when the stars align and a great album is produced.
Good stuff, miss the old Keys
Any band that brings back the blues element is okay with me.
Clássico do rock.
Always loved this album. Met them backstage at a Festival too which bumps it up a bit.
Awesome
I liked this album a lot. I had not really listened to much from these guys. They have a nice mix of guitar, percussion, and blues.
They definitely deserve the hype and praise that they get
only very marginally listened to the Black Keys so was excited to listen to this album. and it did not disappoint. loved the energy, the distortion & fuzz, and varying tempos. great listen. 4.5 stars
Just an outstanding album, for me.
It's difficult to rate a record where some of the songs are just indelible markers of an era. This album is ingrained in the minds of most people who care about music. I can understand the hate it might receive for its appropriation, but at least they did it better and more interestingly than Clapton (this guy fucking sucks) and Beck. I can't really hate it. I've tried to avoid these guys with preconceived notions. I was wrong.
I remember listening to The Black Keys in school. For some reason I never fully listened to this album though, which is a shame All the songs were as good as eachother. I knew a few of them and really enjoyed this album! Sidenote - I always thought they were British! 5 ⭐️
How did I not know about this band. Banging.
Have bought it when it came out. It's a staple of my listening habits. Just a great album all around with very few lows and many many highs.
A special album for me. I remember randomly torrenting this when it came out when I was in eighth grade and loving it. Probably one of the first full albums that I got into and really made me realize there’s good music outside of the Top 40. The music itself stills hits pretty hard and is just jam packed with bluesy rifts and really good complementary drumming. Love it! 9/10
Every song is a banger. Forget how much I love this album.
Love this album!
Love the Black Kets.
This album kicks so much ass and it’s not even their best. Incident lay, think this may be the first in the list that I have the vinyl on.
Amazing album. I will probably listen to it again. Loved the last 2 songs. These Days was wonderful. Definitely want to listen to it again.
Bluesy, guitar rock
Smooth, little bluesy indie rock
Raw blues sound mixed with modern distortion and catchy rhythms. What's not to love?
This album has been an all-time favorite of mine since its release.
Great album. A classic throwback to my high school playlist.
One of my personal favorites. Pinnacle of blues-infused garage rock. All the tracks are great, "Tighten Up" will always be nostalgic, other fave is "Unknown Brother" and the closer "These Days" is underrated.
This shit is my shit !
GREAT ALBUM. Got me into me and have me hooked for life.
Before I started to wonder if the album has held up well. If it still sounded raw and new or out-dated. Within the first 10 seconds I had my answer--pleasantly surprised it still sounded awesome.
This album is so fun and rocks hard. I don't listen to many blues-inspired artists but love the ones I do. I'm not sure I would go as far as to say I'm a big Black Keys fan, but I love this album. 5/5
Not my introduction to The Black Keys, but this record is most definitely the one that got me into The Black Keys. Not as lo-fi as the earlier stuff, but I prefer that. We can hear all of the things that make this band so good, yet it still has that Rust Belt grunge on it. Stand out songs: "Next Girl", "Tighten Up", "Howlin' For You", "Never Gonna Give You Up".
In the early days of Pandora, I found that the playlist for all my stations would converge to the Black Keys. I liked what I heard, but never chose to listen to them proactively. Why?!?! The Black Keys are like Doritos for my ears — designed in some chemical laboratory in New Jersey to be the perfect mix of rock, blues, and soul. Always grooving hard, but remaining in the pocket. Nothing is forced. 5 stars.
Great album
Really enjoyed this one b4 valentines
A favourite
Fantastic album!
Shi was fire
Like
A bluesy, garage rock, and psychedelic (and maybe indie???) in some spots album. I've liked songs off the album for a while as well as others by The Black Keys but somehow never got around to exploring whole albums by them. I found I enjoyed most of the album as much as the songs I already knew. Overall really love this album and their style.
Is that the Mambo Sun bass line? Next Girl reminds me of something....Gary Clark Jr. They pull from a lot of sources, but it is entertaining in the long run. I may give it the elusive 5.
now this is a solid banger
This is literally one of the best albums by the black keys, it was such a great surprise when I heard it the first time! There are so many good songs and the whole album just flows!
Rock that goes hard. I love their distorted sounds. Want to listen more.
so much gold in one album. it's a cohesive work with just enough variation so as to be full of flavor. loved it
One of my all-time favorite albums. Listened literally hundreds of times before this, but I'll never argue against another.
Stabilhell yeah
Easy 5. Excellent instrumentals and vocal work. Great vibe! 'Tighten Up' was my fave.
Already one of my favs, The Black Keys never disappoints.
Well the crooks are out And the streets are gray You know I wouldn't have it any other way, yeah Your mother's words, they're, they're ringing still But your mother don't pay our bills, yeah A sinister kid is a kid who Runs to meet his maker A drop that spreads from the day he's born Straight into his maker's arms And that's me, that's me The boy with the broken halo That's me, that's me The devil won't let me be I got a tortured mind And my blade is sharp A bad combination in the dark If I kill a man in the first degree Baby would you, would you flee with me? Here's the thing - This is a great album. I know that its 2 white dudes playing blues rock and appropriating all kinds of shit with both hands but at the end of the day its still just a damn good album. 5/5
Fantastic album. My favorite from The Black Keys. Nice blues riffs and good songwriting make for a fantastic listen.
Oujee, ihana groove, ihana jytä ja rokki 5/5
Cool
found my new fav album
Great album!
I listened to the deluxe version. Not sure what the difference between that and the original but it is brilliant. Blues based and sounds so good. It sounds perfect for a day when you want to sit back and chill and listen to some great tunes.
I know it's kinda cool to hate on the Black Keys now and I get it... yes, they sold out... yes they are a knockoff White Stripes... yes they do make blues music for people afraid of black people but fuck it. It is an important album to me. My very first concert was Black Keys, and this album helped to really get me into music in general. 10/10 though admittedly biased.
Already one of my favorite bands. I think this is their masterpiece so far. Blends the two eras of the band perfectly. The old raw and dirty with the newer polished raw and dirty. I love it. Their music always goes straight into my body and gets me moving.
Excellent rock blues album. My eldest nephew reminded me I got him into this band, and that's a nice feeling as an aunt. Great listen.
Chimbita, me gustó
A great recording. I was never into the Black Keys although I have had heard of them. I wasn't aware that this album was their breakthrough. All of the songs are good and "Everlasting Light" "Tighten Up" are stand outs.
Solid album from start to front.
bopppps all around!! Felt perfect for opening up the jazz building too! Will definitely listen again
Love the Black Keys. Raw, banging and rock solid.
I always loved the Black Keys and their songs on the radio but never listened to a full album The Go Getter was not my favorite but that was about it. Beyond the hits it was still great. Ten Cent Pistol, Everlasting Light, Howlin for you all great. I also liked I'm Not the One, it just had a dark gritty sound that was great. Unknown Brothers was good, had a loving vibe (maybe it was the jingle bells) that just feels heartwarming in a rock way. These Days was beautiful, touching, emotion filled and brings a tear to my eye. Their sound is just so uniquely them. Spotify calls it blues, rock, and it is but also more. The voice, the synthesizers, use of drums, and everything just makes these sound that is so deep, raw and something worth listening to again and again.
Great album
This album rocks!!
I liked this one a lot. Reminded me a lot of Alabama Shakes. The backstory of recording in the original Muscle Shoals Studio makes it even cooler. Rating: 4.8
2010. Blues rock, garage rock
DISCAZO
Maybe a little too glossy for a blues record, but this gets 5 stars for being purely nostalgic. Lots of great songs, covers, productions and just rocking. Surprised this is on the list but a good surprise
I have always heard this is a good album but never gave it a list. Love this!
Black keys are definitely a great reintroduction to blues rock, and by association. They've reintroduced me to a lot of other new artists that I really like. How can you go wrong with piano , guitar, and vocals.
One of my favourite albums of all time. 10/10
Love it. I used to listen to this album on repeat.
Transporting. “The perfect album doesn’t exi—” Sinister Kid gtfo what further proof do you need that they made that crossroads deal.
Oikein oiva, entuudestaan tuttu.
It's an instant classic. Every song is instantly recognizable and brings back great memories.
Amazing blues album. I thought the 55 minute length would not hold, but Black Keys makes every song interesting. Love the drum work same with the guitar work
Solid album, love The Black Keys Too Afraid to Love You is my never-heard standout
I was 15 when the album came out and I fell in love with it, it really helped me discover a whole world of music. If possible I’d give a 4.5 as a couple of songs could have been left off the record. But my 15 year old self wouldn’t forgive me if I gave it a 4 so has to be a 5.
This is a fantastic album. I can't really label it a particular style or genre, there were many different influences. If I had to name it I would call it blues-rock-funk. I don't think there were any weak tracks. It flowed so well. I listened to it twice initially and will be delving into the artists catalogue.
A great fuzzy rock album. Will listen again
Album 510 of 1001 The Black Keys - Brothers Rating : 4.5 / 5 Awesome album that makes me want more. I may be going a little high here but I really like what I hear.
Sonorità ruvide e viscerali, cattiveria e scarsa igiene personale. Che Album meraviglioso.
Great stuff from these guys. Not sure what the “deluxe” album is that this directs you to because it’s track for track and the same length as normal🤷
Awesome
Love this album! Knew this album from before and I think this listen I enjoyed it even more and should have had it in the regular playlist. Great Album!
I enjoy the album. It isn't perfect but it is pretty dang good.
Love the bluesy feel to many of these tracks :)
It just sounds fantastic.
Great album
Love it! I can't listen to disc 2 (not available on Spotify) but it's fine since it's live versions of some songs from disc 1
Nice sound. I'd listen to it again
Great sound
4.6
Classic
Might be nostalgia but it’s got such a bluesy feel to it. Love it!
Great album with so many good songs including Next Girl, Tighten up and The Only one. Good variety of vocals with an instrumental track
absolute banger of an album. no notes.
La triada I´m not the one, Unknown brother y Never gona give you up (versión del clásico de Jerry Butler) es una maravilla. Ten cent pistol y The only one son otras dos joyas, aunque cualquier tema tiene un nivel muy alto. Lo escuchas del tirón y quieres repetir. Otros discos de 2010: Best Coast- Crazy for you, Joanna Newson- Have one on me, Twin Shadow- Forget, Tracey Thorn- Love and its opposite, Caribou- Swim, Vampire weekend- Contra, Crystal Castles- Crystal Castles, Sufjan Stevens- The age of Adz, Kanye West- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The National - High Violet, Delorean - Subiza, LCD Soundsystem -This Is Happening, The Drums - The Drums, Arcade Fire -The Suburbs, Janelle Monáe - The Archandroid, Deerhunter -Halcyon Digest, Beach House - Teen Dream, Radio Dept. -Clinging to a Scheme, Belle and Sebastian- Write about love, Lana del rey- Lana del rey, Sade- Soldier of love, MGMT - Congratulations, Band of horses- Infinite arms, Superchunk- Majesty Shredding, Elton John and Leon Russell- The union...
This is right up my alley
I thought I already got this album but honestly I don't care if it's the second time because I could listen to this album on loop endlessly. The first four tracks are each all-timers and the rest of the album keeps up the momentum to make my favorite black keys album and one of my favorite albums in general. This also sounds great live.
I had a big Black Keys phase when I lived in Mississippi, but I was more into El Camino at the time (since it had recently been released). Now that I have revisited the band, Brothers is SUCH a tight, cohesive, and phenomenal album. Every song is filled with feeling, danceability, and soul, but also manages to keep each song feeling unique and valuable to the album as a whole.
I favorited like six tracks on this album but for some reason I’m having a hard time giving it a 5*. I like it. It rocks. I have a great time listing to it. It’s prob like 4 songs heavy. Would have preferred a tight 38-43 minute album. I don’t really know what I’m talking about. Mavs won. Gummy kicking in. Fuck it, 5*!!! LFG!!! #MFFL 4.5/5
the bangiest black keys album and the beginning of the decline
This is the album that got me into the Black Keys. I've always understood this is a take-off of the blues, but I've never considered them to be a blues band. I think the Black Keys are a rock band with a southern blues influence. The Black Crowes if the Black Crowes were not from Georgia. I'll call this urban rock-blues. Anyway, this is a great album and I can always trim 3 tracks off this album to make it 12 songs of great songs. The front half feels like the traditional urban blues sound they have, while the back half is just as strong with slower songs that I enjoyed the variety of. This is the second album in the really good trilogy they put out from 2008 through 2011. You can feel them go from the more experimental Attack & Release, to the more urban blues and rock of Brothers and finally towards more mainstream rock with El Camino. This is a must-listen album in my opinion.
I got excited when I saw Black but then realized that Keys is not Puma. It's actually a fantastic album though.
Great band, Great album. Ohio’s finest!
The Black Keys are an interesting group. They took blues rock and made it commercially successful all while being from Ohio. This album is really one of the best rock albums post 2000. This album has many hits along with great softer songs. The whole album is very rounded out and produced in a way that makes it easy to go track to track again and again. This is a terrific album. 8.8/10
Sensational album. Perfect bluesy rock. Story telling. Great vocals. Interesting throughout. Riffs that just stick in your head for the rest of the day. The whole thing just hangs together - nothing to skip. Can’t really pick a favourite track, as it depends on how the mood catches me. Today’s mood was ‘Ten Cent Pistol’ for the lovely noodling on the lead guitar. Oh, and the slow groove of ‘I’m not the One’.
One of my favorite bands. Uncomplicated and fun!
WHAT A BANGER, would like to listen plenty of more times.
TA BIEN WENO. 9/10

The Black Keys have gone platinum in this household, I know that’s for true
This is an album by The Black Keys. The name of this album is Brothers. The Black Keys went on quite the run in the early 2010s, with this (2010) and El Camino (2011) in back-to-back years. My understanding is that they weren't particularly well-known before Brothers and it's their sixth album, so this was a real breakthrough. Credit where it's due, this album is awesome. It has a truly iconic start, with "Everlasting Light", "Tighten Up", and "Howlin' For You" as three of the first four songs (and "Next Girl" is no slouch either). I knew the hits already, but I was impressed by how deep the rest of the album is. It's certainly top-heavy (how could it not be), but there's plenty of good stuff throughout. They manage to do the bluesy / garage-rock / Jack White / Alabama Shakes vibe while keeping the sound fairly fresh and interesting throughout (speaking of Jack White, apparently he hates them and thinks they ripped off his sound). It might've benefitted from being a few songs shorter (15 songs at 55 minutes on the original release, with a few misses), but hard to knock it too much. This is about as good of a 2010s rock album as I know of, both from a "hits" perspective and a "top-to-bottom" depth perspective. I'd probably give it a 4.5 if I could, but there's plenty here to round up. Favorite song: Everlasting Light Other: Next Girl, Tighten Up, Howlin' For You, She's Long Gone, The Only One, Too Afraid To Love You, Ten Cent Pistol, Sinister Kid, I'm Not The One, These Days 4/17/24
Likely my favorite/most listened Black Keys album. So many jams that I could listen to anytime. 5 stars all the way
Everlasting light & tighten up & howlin for you & the only one
Absolute 5 star album. Felt like a whole musical moment when this broke through. Ten Cent Pistol gets my Fallout games / western vibes a goin' too!
Great sound, great album. Blues firmly undergirds the sound on the album, and while there are more poppy elements (Everlasting Light, Tighten Up, Howlin' For You), they blend that with a very laid back feel where even the more rocking pieces feel pretty chill. She's Long Gone and Sinister Kid has a Led Zeppelin by way of Beck feel, Never Gonna Give You Up has more of a Soulful/Memphis feel, and These Days has a kind of Midwest Emo feel. Faves: Tighten Up, She's Long Gone, Sinister Kid, Unknown Brother.
kaleo hello?
Great album, great band. Love their mix of blues and modern rock. 6 songs starred. Album starred.
01) Everlasting Light - 9,0 02) Next Girl - 9,0 03) Tighten Up - 9,5 04) Howlin' for You - 9,5 05) She's Long Gone - 8,5 06) Black Mud - 9,0 07) The Only One - 9,0 08) Too Afraid to Love You - 9,0 09) Ten Cent Pistol - 9,0 10) Sinister Kid - 8,5 11) The Go Getter - 8,5 12) I'm Not the One - 9,0 13) Unknown Brother - 8,5 14) Never Give You Up - 9,5 15) These Days - 9,0 TOTAL: 8,97 (90/100) I'm reading the reviews and am surprised by how many people said that this isn't worth being on the list. I mean, have you listened to some other shit that pops up here? The fu**? This is a very good, listenable, catchy rock album and I would rather listen to this than exactly 123 albums that I listened to so far (this being my album #140). On the other hand, it has an average of 3,66 so that means that I'm not the only one that feels this way towards The Black Keys.
I have heard some of these songs, but I did not know it was The Black Keys. Lots of falsetto. Over all an enjoyable album.
This has got to be one of the best albums of the 2010-2019 decade. I had forgotten how good it is. The song order is impecable. Its a progressive love story with diferent rythyms and beats that works as a continious song. Its very rare to find an album like this now a days where the producers only care about making one or 2 singles. This is a masterpiece and although I like El camino’s albums singles a bit more this really work as an album and I enjoyed it more than the album with the better singles.
The Black Keys are one of my favorite modern bands and "Brothers" has my vote for their best album. "El Camino" is the Friday night party album, "Rubber Factory" is a great early-era blistering blues album and I'll always have a soft spot for the melancholy psychedelia of "Turn Blue" but this album feels like the one most deserving of the #1 title. It's got the sprawl of a double album and spans a range of blues and rock styles with a variety of moods. The songwriting is excellent and the production is impeccable. I heard new details in the mix today which is always exciting for an album I've listened to countless times.
Wowowow yes. I remember hearing The Black Keys back when the HBO show "Hung" had "I'll Be Your Man" as the theme song. I loved that album and loved the albums that followed, but when this record came out it was a really incredible breakthrough into the next level for them. I love all of their albums, but I respect this one as being THE one. It's the one that blew them up into huuuuge stardom, and is absolutely jam packed with A+ 10/10 songs. It's almost like a greatest hits album, where at the start of every new song you find yourself saying something like "oh yea this song is on this album! Awesome!" "The Only One" is a beautiful little track that is reminiscent to the older albums. For me it particularly sounds like it could be on "Attack & Release". Outside of the monstrously huge hits, "Sinister Kid", "Ten Cent Pistol", and "Too Afraid To Love You" are favorites. Perfect artwork for an album that is really a statement. I'm confident that this will be looked back as one of the best rock albums of all time.
Rating: 4,5
10/10
Great album
Awesome
Really like this album. The songs all have their own feel, but there's a distinctive "sound" to the whole thing. A lot of great tracks, as well, but my favorite is probably "Howlin' For You."
