FunkadelicFunk gold. Such a superb, perfect album.
Funk gold. Such a superb, perfect album.
Great album. “Paranoid Android” is a masterpiece. A few low spots, but overshadowed by stellar writing with many superb tracks.
This album needed an editor. So many great songs. but a number that should have been B-sides. 1:20 minutes long.
Possibly the best Zeppelin album, and that’s saying a lot.
Funk gold. Such a superb, perfect album.
Perfection.
What a wonderful surprise this album was. This was the first in the project I had never listened to. Such a solid album.
Gibby Haynes is awesome and a lot of the Surfers output is great. I get this, but it’s just too much noise to be really enjoyed.
This album is of course foundational for heavy metal music. It’s good, at times. Comical at others. But the horribly raw production is tough to bear. Even remastered, it still sounds pretty tough to listen to.
Pure soul perfection.
Solid album that helped establish AF as indie gold. I prefer their next two to this one, but still a great listen throughout.
Such run of the mill electronic music. Sounds like bad video game music. How is this on this list? Makes me question the value of this list.
A classic, great album overall. But there are a few sleepy spots that do not rival the highlights.
Certainly, there are highlights here, like the classic, irresistible Buffalo Gals or Double Dutch, but some of this is not perfect. Consistently fun though!
So many outstanding songs on this classic. So ahead of its time. I was raised on their greatest hits, so much of this is on my DNA.
This album is fine. Not bad at all, but bookstore background Brit pop from the turn of the century. I wasn’t missing anything before finding this album on this list (for some reason).
On my 500th listen, this album is still as exceptional, perfect and important as it was back in 1991.
Simply a classic concert in an astonishing venue at the perfect time in history.
A superb showcase of the many talents of Elton John. Maybe a bit longer than it needed to be, this album is still chock full of superb songs.
This is their debut and it absolutely slays. What a momentous debut!
A little too twangy for me, but clearly Ely is an excellent musician. “Boxcar” is exceptional, but that was the clear highlight for me here.
The grandmother of punk at the peak of her powers. There are many superb Patti Smith albums, but this one is just unstoppable (just like Easter).
What a debut! Such a great album. Not everything Presley did was superb, but this one is excellent in all the right ways.
Another amazing debut, with killer songs on repeat.
After Iowa, I hadn’t bothered much with Slipknot, because while talented and composing badass tunes at times, it all seemed very monochromatic. The same applies here. Good, even great at times, but it all sounds alike, but worse when slowed down.
The brilliant, but uneven solo debut is great at times! But always a solid listen, especially on a rainy day as I did this time around.
Clearly, Adele is a talented singer and songwriter. And the second song here, Send My Love, is a banger, Adele just isn’t for me. I am clearly not the intended audience and would never seek this out without this project.
Perfect. Every song.
How is it that this was a first listen to this album. Sure, I knew some of the songs, but what a superb piece of work!
The beginning of the Seattle scene and man does it cook. Love this band.
Sade is a treasure and her debut is excellent evidence of what is to come in the ensuing decades
Never realized how much Chris Martin sounds like (or aspired to sound like) Jeff Buckley. There are some really superb songs here.
One of my 4 favorite PJ albums. What a treasure this woman is love all of this!
Really solid throughout!
Love that opener, but it’s too repetitive. The rest of this is enjoyable, but not exceptional.
I just love this album. The Juliana Hatfield backing vocals, the hooks, all of it, start to finish. This is by far, the only great Lemonheads album.
A classic, from start to finish!
Before this band sucked and Bono’s ego ruined it all. Not great, but pretty solid.
This would be a 3.5 for me. There are some real duds here, but the rest are excellent!
Like most Zeppelin albums, this is perfection.
I had never listened to this album all the way through. The standout, Papa Was a Rolling Stone and a few others are well known and outstanding. But some of the R & B tracks were a bit sleepy.
Every song hits. Like every album by The Police.
It’s a mood. By no means bad, but very limiting by that very specific mood. Solid background.
Super fun, classic glam.
Bowie at the peak of his powers. And he had so many peaks!
A great time throughout. Hooks for days.
The first few albums by Roxy Music are so outstanding. The his one included.
Really enjoyable, if a bit repetitive in tone.
Hits, hooks and jangles.
Bowie was the closest of what we get to a musical god. This album is great, but he has many better ones.
A couple of really great songs here. And then, a lot of disposable ones as well.
A really awesome debut, with a few killer songs and a bunch of good songs.
What an unexpected surprise this one was. Really solid tracks, covering many genres. A natural progression from The Jam.
Love the hits. Leave the rest.
Raw, goofy, but great.
Love Neneh Cherry! But this album is spotty at best. Not the sound she would grow into, but would rapidly grow out of.
Enjoyable, but not something I’d ever reach for. Liked some of this when it first came out.
Prog gold!
More Common with Dilla beats!
What a pleasant surprise this album was. Had never heard a single track and I was very impressed. More so with the second listen.
Peak Allman’s doing what they do best, playing live!
There is also much to love about Nina Simone and this has some of her best, most classic tracks.
Is this an everybody gets a trophy kind of project? Seriously, how is this album on this list. It seems that there was an effort to include every genre, even if that genre generally sucks. This album objectively sucks.
A compilation? Seriously, on this list? Sure, this is a solid compilation, but it’s not an album. This seriously throws into question the value of this project. Some of these songs don’t appear on any other album, but this was not an album intended for release as a cohesive project. Compilations should not be on this list.
Classic, seminal punk where Henry Rollins learned to be Rollins.
Classic rock radio staples throughout! Solid tunes.
Solid first half, but the second half is pretty mediocre.
There are a couple of great, now classic songs on here. But the reality is, U2’s best days came before this album and Bono is simply insufferable
A really exceptional debut! Somehow perfectly 1980.
A wild album for sure. There’s so much going on, this is a Roxy Music album unlike any other.
