Reviews (page 5 of 13)

I was very impressed by the other songs that i didn’t know before such as ‘take a bow’ and ‘soldiers poem.’ I like how they have a very different vibe to ‘starlight’ or ‘supermassive black hole’ but impressed me anyways. They are a very talented band with a very skilled guitarist.

Great radiohead clone

Amazing rock album, just shy of a 5 for me. Still great

Muy bueno

This album has not aged as well as I remember it, but it’s like an old friend you’ve grown apart with.

Cinematic Jeff Buckley.

This album rocks. Muse was my favorite band in high school, they aren't anymore but I still have fond memories of them. Also, they had a few decent albums after this too.

Super solid album from Muse. Probably their best. All around great performances with many layers! Many memorable moments; captures their sound extremely well while it was fresh. 4.1/5.0

I really enjoyed this album. Some songs are great, others are interesting.

Enjoyable album with some different songs I’d not heard before. Can see why they lost the pop war to oasis but this is probably more my kind of thing.

In my head, this is basically like the definition of emo rock. And I'm a little bit too old for it to have really hit me at the best time. But I still enjoyed this listen!

Fresh sound and wide spectrum of genres as we move one song to other. Soldier’s poem initially sounded like “Falling in love” by Elvis Presley. City of delusion blew my mind with its Arabic/ Persian tune infused into the regular melody. Hoodoo sounded so hauntingly beautiful. Knights of Cydonia’s lyrics hit hard: How can you win ? When fools are kings😅

Its got the Twilight song.

Incredibly similar with The Killers, but with a weird twist, amazing riffs and some out of the box guitar solos. 7.5/10.

Love this band

I listened to this album after my mom had stopped by my work today; I helped her load a few tables and dozens of chairs into the back of a truck. Partway through this album, I suddenly had the realization that this sounded a lot like a song my mom was briefly obsessed with after seeing it performed on American Idol; sure enough, that song was Uprising by Muse. I think overexposure to that song, and my main memory of it being an over-the-top American Idol performance, has left me with an impression of it as being a little corny, which is a sentiment that has somewhat extended to this album. This is not entirely meant as a knock, and I am incredibly compelled by much of his album, especially the first few songs which blend electronic synths and elements into rock music in a way that I was completely caught off-guard by bur absolutely loved: Take A Bow is a powerful intro that made me want to punch through a wall, and I was already a huge fan of Supermassive Black Hole. There continue to be a lot of strong elements throughout the project, but I do find myself disconnecting a little bit when the electronic instrumentation fades out or when the songs lean heavier into grand and epic declarations of purpose; it is these moments which, maybe unfairly, lean a little close to that corny preconception for my current tastes. I can't help but feel like there's a deeper theme and overarching narrative beneath the surface of this album which I haven't fully clocked yet, but I thoroughly enjoy what is here, and I'm incredibly glad to have reconnected with an old childhood memory through the power of Muse. Highlights: Take A Bow, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Soldier's Poem, Invincible, Exo-Politics, Hoodoo, Knights of Cydonia

I was dissapointed that an album with a 5/5 song or two could be this mid.

If only pop music would be crafted to this standard.

Ikke deres beste album, unødvendig å ha med på en slik liste.

kinda fun 4

I think if you gave Radiohead an espresso and a meeting with Tool, you'd get Muse.

Legends, but not my favourite album :)

You could say I was pretty aMUSEd!

I knew the hits, but not much more, I feel like they ended getting a little too overplayed. I do like the grandiose nature of the album. I liked the club vibe of Map of the Problematique, that was fun. I've never really enjoyed the vocals that much, I'm not really sure why.

What I always find impressive about Muse is how dense the sound of this three-piece band is. However, this also carries the risk of becoming overwhelming, so that the music eventually starts to get on your nerves. Muse's “Black Holes and Revelations” has exactly these characteristics: “Take a Bow” initially encourages you to turn down the volume, ‘Starlight’ and “Supermassive Black Hole” are strong songs, but there are already signs of the saturation effect that is probably inevitable when you combine harder rock with electronic elements by layering track upon track instead of reducing elsewhere. We already had this effect in a slightly different form on “Siamese Dreams” by the Smashing Pumpkins. On “Invincible,” everything calms down a bit, but my overall impression of a pretty good, but ultimately overloaded album remains the same. It could have been outstanding, but as it is, I can only give it four stars today.

kinda trippy. love the dystopian aspect. apparently i already had supermassive black hole in my playlist. also liked take a bow, assassin, and city of delusion.

The album Queen wishes it could have made.

Already listened a million times before and love it sm. Not my fav muse album but still love it w all my heart

Always been a Muse apologist. Hard-hitting space rock with a few notable bangers, Knight of Cydonia is evergreen.

Muse always bangs. This one has some slower burns but still rocks throughout.

Assassin surprised me lol

I have always enjoyed Muse. Edgy band with interesting vocals.

Used to dislike them but they rock, fuck my teen version.

As with every Muse album, this has some amazing highs, but also seems to go on too long with some serious drag on some tracks.

Enjoyed way more than expected

4.5/5 FANTASTIC start, I love an album that eases you into the vibe and Take a Bow does a stellar job of that. It becomes a little one-note through the 6th song, but song 7 on the album, Assassin, really switches it up which re-engaged me immediately with the more distinctly metal instrumentals that I got hints of in the opening song. Happy to see that followed through on. Some of these songs are going STRAIGHT onto my playlists.

Leuk album. Ik heb Supermassive Black Hole natuurlijk al vaker gehoord. Starlight is een hele goeie.

Super theatrical and grand. Couple of misses but otherwise loved it

Some great songs on this album

Some good tunes. Good epic rock.

Hermoso hermoso álbum lo amé. Me gustaron mucho casi todos los temas (mis favoritos invincible y soldier's poem). Seguramente escuche más albums del grupo

I *loved* this album as a teenager, can’t wait to listen to it again in full with my grown-up ears. ETA: review post listen, I enjoyed it a lot but I did pause a few times and wonder to myself how much of that was nostalgia. I’m surprising myself and giving this a 4 rather than the 5 I expected but there are some tracks that I probably would have found meh if this was a first listen rather than something I used to know inside and out fifteen years ago.

I feel like I have to give this album its flowers. It had a sound, a theme, and a purpose, and it stuck to it really well. I did end up enjoying listening to this album (it helps that Supermassive Black Hole is a certified banger), and was pleasantly surprised by a couple songs that I liked quite a bit. I’m not sure if I would listen to this album in its entirety again on my own volition, but I did save a couple songs from the album, so that warrants a 4 in my eyes.

Listen, at our core, we are all decendents of primates - deep down we all have dumb animal instincts and impulses that can override our better judgement. Thats what Muse is. It appeals to that catchy, shallow subconcious part of your brain. Where Radiohead might be considered cerebral, Muse takes the vibe from Radiohead’s early albums and runs them into an industrial rave (ad least for the first half), which honestly works pretty well. I think Muse had a big enough impact in the 2000-2010s to have at least one album on this list, and this is probably the album to include. It’s definitely better than any of the THREE Kings of Leon albums that are included (at least throughout the various editions of the book). Tune in, turn off (your brain), and drop out.

I was already familiar with "Supermassive Black Hole" and a few other songs that I liked before listening to this album. The space rock description does fit here (if that encompasses groovy bass lines, ambitious guitars, retro piano sounds, and dark tones). The songs and their lyrics also conveyed a sense of seriousness and urgency to me. There are some beautiful moments on this album. A good listen.

I mean its Muse!

No zoning out. Good variety of songs overall.

I enjoyed it. Found Supermassive Black Hole quite fun and good.

Been trying to work out why i like this album but hated the last Radiohead one. They are aimilar in some ways but this is less annoying whine and rockier. Like the drummer and bass here, very in sinc.

Muse is a guilty pleasure for me. A lot of folks I know say they are a lowbrow, knock off Radiohead. I say they are what I kind of hoped Radiohead sounded like before I listened to them. And also probably objectively not great.

Knights of Cydonia

listened to this at a time that it really spoke to me (on the dangerous 40 bus with people i don't want to see). loved the orchestral arrangements on these and the drums are killer. reminds of a jeff buckley if he was hard rock. fav songs: assassin, invincible, city of delusion

Alright, if it wasn't official before then it's certain now, the appeal of alt rock still doesn't land with me. But I had more fun with this album than any of the Radiohead albums I've listened to so far, and pretty handedly. Again, I really don't love drawing direct comparisons, but it's hard not to when Radiohead was clearly so influential in the genre. Still, I'm not a huge fan of Matt Bellamy's vocals like so many others in this genre, and the run time feels awfully long even if it's just 50 minutes in reality, but the instrumentation and composition here is what really kept me engaged. That and the fact that Knights of Cydonia was in Guitar Hero 3. Highlight: Starlight Lowlight: Invincible Surprise Hit: Take a Bow Guitar Hero: Knights of Cydonia

7.5/10

Had not been familiar, but solid album.

This is another album that I think would be a 5/5 if it wasn’t for the sequencing of it. There is absolutely ZERO reason why Hoodoo shouldn’t be the final song on this album. It would’ve been such a good closer, and they fumbled it and picked Knights of Cydonia instead. Great album aside from that though. Favorites: Take a Bow, Supermassive Black Hole, Hoodoo

Nostalgic

3/3. Great album, I’d definitely heard of it before and knew Knights of Cydonia and Supermassive Black Hole, but I was still pleasantly surprised. Great production, awesome guitar work throughout, and well-paced. I’ll be revisiting this.

Know it for a long time, the synth parts are driving this thing forward

Bombastic, with electronic flourishes. Starlight reminds of Keane, as does the lead singer. "Supermassive Black Hole" sounds like Garbage crossed with Prince with some ELO-like production, an electro-dancey number. Map of the Problematique is all about a frantic keyboard/guitar riff and tribal drums with a Bono-ish vocal delivery. Soldier's Poem is an understated lullaby compared to the assault of the first three tracks. Invincible starts as a simple melody but develops into a fist-in-the-air march. Assassin starts with an extended metal guitar riff before launching into a menacing yet plaintive verse-chorus cycle. The rest of the album is more of the same - ambitious and loud. The second half has a couple of songs with a Latin flavor and a few have Queen-style close-harmony vocal passages. Overall, I think there's a lot to like about this record - the lyrics are thought-provoking and critical of the political climate, the musicianship is riff-heavy and the song-craft is clever, inventive, and engaging.

I really enjoyed this album. Great sound. Nicely produced.

Das Album fand ich ganz gut, hatte einen schönen Klang und tolle Abwechslung. Tolle Gesangsstimme und Arrangements der Songs, gerne wieder

gutes gealtertes Album. Mag Muse sehr gerne.

Still a little disappointed with my enjoyment level of Muse. Really should be higher based on the available information and associations. Regardless, although I don't love them, this is a very complete album with a clear theme and purpose. Well done.

Its was odd

good, would listen again

I find this album more 'pop' than their older stuff but I like it either way! Assassin is probably my favourite.. has those old muse riffs and energy! Second half of the album is better for sure.

Excellent big-sound band that would do well on a festival set of speakers. I think that is the best way to listen to them, sadly I do not have these speakers at home. Overall it sounds very good, very well produced but there is a slight quality lacking. Is it innovation or songwriting? Not sure. Enjoyed it though. 4/5

I loved this when it came out, but as a whole album I'm not sure it's held up - Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia still slap though

nice, louder version of radiohead 8/10

I low key loved this

Great album, with Knights of Cydonia being the highlight (fantastic live). Also felt this was the point where they started moving away from their sound from the last two albums.

So, let's see. We've got corrupt leaders, illegal wars, satellite surveillance and... irresistible women that suck you inexorably into their gravity well? Must be 2006! This is the album I didn't know I needed to listen to today. I don't think it's one of the all time greats, but for taking me back 20 years in a heartbeat...

Black Holes and Revelations is a catchy album, but also one of the most eccentric and dramatic albums I have listened to so far. Muse combines alternative rock with electronic and prog influences in a very spectacular way. The album's drama and theatricality make it very interesting and distinct, even if at times it can seem a little exaggerated to a listener less familiar with the band's style. Overall, the album offers an energetic and captivating experience. Rating: 8.5 / 10

Good record, some modern classics like knights of cydonia. Felt like some songs weren’t needed to make it a tighter more exciting album but still good overall

This album hit me with a big wave of nostalgia right away. I instantly remembered Knights of Cydonia from Guitar Hero back in college...still a banger. That song alone sets the tone for how ambitious and over the top this record wants to be. The back half of the album is incredible; City of Delusion stood out with its Spanish and Mediterranean flair, especially the castanets, guitar runs, and trumpet touches. It gives the song a dramatic, almost cinematic feel. Assassin goes hard in a different way, darker and more aggressive, while still keeping things tight and focused. Muse really leaned into those European influences here, and it paid off. The blend of rock with Spanish, Italian, and Mediterranean elements gave the album a personality that separates it from a lot of mid 2000s alt rock.

Alt rock, fun variety

Amazing rock album with no skips. Great work on all instruments present, and sends a great message.

Solid but many flaws lowkey a high 3 stars

Pretty good 4/5 idk Production carried

I used to love this album in high school, and their show on this tour was the first concert I ever went to, so it's hard to be subjective with this one. It's not perfect, and not even the best Muse album, but it's still pretty good

Loved it, should’ve listened to Benjamin Bassindale all along

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to muse all the way through and I really enjoyed it.

Ik zou t normaal niet zo snel luisteren maar was wel een experience. Redelijk intense muziek en nummers die ik van spinnen herkende.

Crazy talented musicians

Around this time, I was starting to discover new music, after having given up and thinking "there's nothing good anymore". Muse was one of the bands that I had listened to and really enjoyed their sound. Best Song: Knights of Cydonia

Muse are for people who can’t handle Radiohead. Joking aside this was actually quite enjoyable - knights of cydonia a particular standout.

In 2008 I got obsessed with playing Knights of Cydonia on Wii Guitar Hero, but apart from that and liking Supermassive Black Hole as a single, I didn't ever give this album a listen. You can tell the dance rock/electro influences on this and my Franz Ferdinand/LCD Soundsystem loving early twenties self probably would have loved it. Oh well, better late than never. Supermassive Black Hole sounds like Prince and Matt Bellamy's falsetto finally works! The opening of Map of the Problematique sounds like the Pet Shop Boys.

Cool stuff

Very epic!

solid genre-blurring collection of tracks. Hoodoo is massively underrated. Knights of Cydonia is a killer closer

Listening notes ? First rated album - Beginning of the journey. Can I write and then come back ? - We'll try that Yes you can Are the notes personal to me ? I hope so, because the expectations from my side are really low :) About the album now: Feels already known to me. I probably already listened to it once. Spotify and such may ruin the experience, but the tracks and tracks sequence (apart from the obvious ones) feel personal already Feels very energetic, and courageous (Map of the Problematique) At the same time, lots of minor chords ? Gets very dramatic as the tracks go. We hear how it feels to slowly lose hope. Overall very interesting album. Will hear again

Bombastic, big stadium sounds. It's on my shelves... Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★★☆ (7/10) Total reviewed : 204 Already owned : 45 Purchased : 8 To buy list : 6 Nope : 145

It was pretty good

7.0/10

Very strange that the only album Muse have on this list is their THIRD best. After this they declined quite quickly and somehow are now thought of as really uncool, which means Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution get overlooked and I think they're both masterpieces. Thery don't quite reach those heights with this one but they set the bar pretty high, and it's good enough. But not quite a 5. Those other two definitely are. Another miss from the author of this book.

This is a really solid album overall! A few duds, but also many great tracks on here like Supermassive Black Hole and Knight of Cydonia. This is not only Muse's peak in my opinion, but also the last good album they ever made.

muse is the sorta band that i was really happy to see on the list when it generated yesterday. often i'm disappointed in what the list generated post 2004, especially the albums within the 2000's because it often feels like albums that they think MIGHT get relevance in the future but most of the time they are unknown, but they've hit the head on it this time. it's just lovely rock, def has radiohead influence but that's quite cool

I don't listen to nearly as much Muse as the bands they're perennially compared to, Radiohead and Coldplay, but I always enjoy them when they're on, and this album is no exception! The last 3-track run especially, from City of Delusion to Knights of Cydonia, is absolute fire heat.

Well I'll start off by saying that that was a mind-blowing first listen. No notes. It's heat and bangers the whole way through. I AM hesitant to give it a 5, though. Their whole shtick is these big, epic, heavy-hitting songs that do leave a spectacular first impression, but very quickly lose their edge on repeat listens -- at least, that's been my (admittedly limited) experience with Muse in the past. Still a very solid album I'm excited to revisit! Standouts: Supermassive Black Hole • Assassin • City of Delusion • Knights of Cydonia

pretty good. i saved 8/12 tracks

Like Radiohead on speed.

I love their style of making everything so apocalyptic and epic so much, this one doesn't succeed as much as their last two but comepensates with great poppier songs

really good but some songs are not that good

Mix us Nostalgie und "isch es no ziit für muse?" Aber yes isch es! Gueti Energy für en langsame ziistig morge. E gwüssi cringeness wo am Timon sin Tag versüesst und am Nedi sine versalzet. (ja da hani s review mal glese bevori miis gschriibe han, upsi) Am nedi sini zwei Stern + extra cringe macht nach mine Berechnige vier spassigi Sternli vo mir.

The peak of my time listening to Muse was around my first few years of high school. For one reason or another, I just never really cared too much about them after a while. I think I still prefer Origin of Symmetry over Black Holes and Revelations. Just has more bangers. Will give this a four because Knights of Cydonia still hits.

Funny to listen to this critically after merrily enjoying for so many years. This album is a bit of a funny one. To my mind it has some exceptional guitar playing, in particular the bass guitar that produces some really memorable stuff. The songs that are heavier on the instrumental elements are I think the strongest, the band can shine rather than it being a Matt Bellamy ego stroke. Some of the slower stuff stands up well and maybe you need these anyway to break up the album a bit. But there’s some tracks that are dangerously close to filler for what is otherwise an album with some really strong tracks. A very enjoyable album with some caveats.

"Soldiers Poem" / "Invincible" are relatively slow and melodic.  Then you have "Assassin" which is more about the bellowing of voice over a static base.  Kind of sums up the dynamic for me.  Both have their part to contribute to this being an interesting album, but I prefer the songs that have a shifting base and more vocal intricacy.  It's a mild critic though as can't really fault any song on this album.  When you pick out a specific song where the lyrics or base are slightly less rich, it's so isolated and based on strength of full album seems a bit nit picking.  The floating vocals might not be for everyone, but it's what makes Muse unique.  I don't want to compare to other artists but amongst the fog of other similar bands or 90's alt rock it's a reasonable shining example.  It misses the very top spot for me based on it being slightly formula based.  There is only so much volume and energy an album can handle if it can't insert a little extra detail.  My analogy is like a decent small speaker that can't quite fill the room without distorting.  It lacks that ability to fill the space with its final refinement.  Another band I genuinely liked but for some reason decided they were not my tribe and avoided the full contract.  I will be catching up now though now.

Listening to this has made me realise that I have always quite liked Muse but have never really given them the time to become a regular part of my collection. This album has some great variation, from some electronica influences to some heavier rock tracks. Muse always seem to do a good job of staying undeniably Muse-like despite this variation. I think that the constant overly dramatic vocals can sometimes be a little bit OTT and I prefer the tracks where the vocals aren't fully operatic. This album definitely has enough to it to inspire a deeper dive, as well as some absolutely killer singles that have that quintessential Muse sound.

So much genre and power is poured into Muse's rock. I clearly need to listen to more. 4.5/5

A bit heavier than what I typically listen to, but surprisingly melodic and catchy. I would maybe give it only three stars, but I can see it improving upon repeated listening.

Good album.

Uten tvil bedre enn det meste jeg har gitt tre stjærnor. Noen ordentlig knall låter, med litt listefyll i midten. Menmen.

There is a lot to like about Muse, but I can't shake the feeling that the vocalist is smugly levitating the entire time.

This is #day518 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… how do I wrap my head around the fact that this record is turning 20 this year? Bonkers. As the band themselves once put it, though, "Time Is Running Out." Black Holes and Revelations was my gateway to Muse, I think, especially via HAARP, one of the first live concerts I remember watching on a PC in the late '00s. Listening to this record now brings back memories of a very different time. "Map of the Problematique" remains one of my favorite Muse songs, if not the favorite. And then came The Resistance, and my second year at college... Damn, I hate how time flies, or rather... runs out? Fun fact: I never noticed those horse figurines on the table in the album cover until today. All that aside, this is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day519.

A lot of tunes here that remind me of being younger which is always nice.

Listened to this several times. Occasionally got lost in the wailing grandiosity. Exo-Politics is a new favorite along with Assassin.

Classic all time favorite

Lucy introduced me to this one (thank you, Twilight), and I don't think I had much patience to listen to some of the more theatrical / musical-type songs at the time. As a whole, and with my 42-and-a-half-year-old ears, it's quite balanced. And I'm totally floored by how melodic the electric guitar is with the lead singer's voice.

more electronic than I expected but cool

Me gustó! 4

absolutely love this album, people are missing out on the rest of the album instead of just listening to supermassive blackhole

I’m a fool for you now Muse. Thank you for the bombast and tenderness, the transitions within and between songs and for kicking life back into me today. Fresh and timeless is not easy to pull off.

- songs i liked: starlight, super massive black hole (twilight baseball scene :)), soldier's poem, and invincible - the intro song kind of scared me but it was okay, def not my vibe - overall, the music is far from what I'm used to, so it was a good first pick in branching my music taste - 6.5/10

I dig it.

First song is giving no good deed bro. Elphaba is casting spells on us.

Loved this. It had a few tracks that leaned a little metal and I loved that

Me he guardado algunas en favoritos.

different to the music i usually gravitate to, would not of listened to if not fir this website but i'm happy i did.

idek it was fun

Muse my love my light. It’s nice to see you again. I don’t remember Muse having such a large sound.

Oui c'est Muse quoi, il y a des trucs supers qui donnent envie de sauter partout, et des trucs qui donnent envie de sauter d'un pont.

Gave me Radiohead vibes haha loved this album absolute bangers in this. 7/10

72/1001 First listen. I don’t know why I haven’t dug deeper into these guys. I like enough of their singles. I was way into this one. A little throw back to guitar hero in There as well. I’ll be back for more. 7/10

This album is so nostalgic for me. Makes me think of my dad. I really like Starlight and Assassin but shout out to Knights of Cydonia. 4 stars easily. Really good flow between songs and wasnt once boring.

The era of indie rock music in the 2000's was very weird. Glam rock died because of grunge, grunge died after Kurt Cobain, it's remains turned into more indie rock things, Radiohead made OK Computer followed by Kid A, Arcade Fire, the whole thing. 2000's indie band music, you either hate it or love it, and you can make fun of all the bands involved, Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Blur, Weezer, and especially Muse, considering their later projects are kinda mid. This album though is really fun and nice to listen to. The synths and orchestration and the weird turns this album goes to makes for a fantastic listening experience, I admit, I was surprised that I recieved this album so well. Great stuff, 8/10

I’ve really been getting into Muse lately, and this album doesn’t disappoint. Great stuff.

A fun album tbh I definitely want to relisten to it in one sitting.

This album sounds like the soundtrack of an epic movie. The singer's voice perfectly transmits the passion and tragedy in every track. Even though it's not my style, it's safe to say that the production is impeccable and the lyrics are amazingly powerful and political, which makes it a very interesting album to listen to.

Tunteellista isoille areenoille tehtyä räimettä. Kolmosbiisi kuulosti täysin Garbagelta (bändi).

I like it! It's dramatic and cohesive, but very interesting to listen to. It is maybe not something drastically different from everything else made at the time, but it's a good 2000's rock album, it's typical and entertaining. Not everything has to be weird and experimental.

QoA Cloudscape.

Classic

Good. 4/5

Overall impression: If you isolated the vocals, this would sound like Radiohead. Many themes of criticism of government corruption, likely influenced by the post 9-11 War on Terror. Instrumentals: very rock-opera? Take a Bow - Opening instrumentals are perfection. Lyrics are a criticism of corrupt world leaders Starlight - Lyrics describing the feeling of being far away from someone you love. Being on the road, chasing fame ("I will be chasing a starlight/ Until the end of my life/ I don't know if it's worth it anymore") Supermassive Black Hole - Lyrics are a metaphor for all-consuming love for someone, being lost in desire, uses metaphors that convey both passion and destruction, using infinitely large scientific concepts (blackholes) to describe feelings that feel supernaturally large Map of the Problematique - Feeling lonely and trapped in a relationship, but simultaneously being unable to let that relationship go. They are mutually destructive to each other Soldier's Poem - Opening instrumentals remind me of "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis. From a soldier's perspective - feeling used and abandoned. Gropes with the painful realities of being sent to war by a government who doesn't really care about you. Different feel (instrumental, vocal style) to the rest of the album - softer, less electric Invincible - First verse - encouraging lyrics - "stand up for what you believe/ and tonight we can truly say/ together we're invincible". Second verse - encouraging a partner to turn things around and stand together because "together we're invincible" Assassin - encouraging revolution, overthrowing corrupt leaders. Refers to "demonocracy" - a criticism of democracy that has turned corrupt Exo-Politics - talks about government conspiracy, manipulation, and alien themes, seems to suggest that world leaders are secretly collaborating with aliens City of Delusion - similar lyrical themes to Assassin, call for revolution against a corrupt government. I love the trumpet in this song Hoodoo - escaping a painful reality into a "new reality" with a lover, offering protection to said lover in this reality. Builds tension throughout the song, coming to a head, and then returning to a melancholy at the end. Knights of Cydonia - themes of waking up fighting back, feels like the soundtrack to a spaghetti western Glorious - reflects on themes of faith - how he feels religious belief is a lie, yet still feels compelled by the beauty of it, many juxtapositions from one line to the next

(jk) 8/10 I LOVED THIS ALBUM

8/10 - A great opening, however the low energy parts of the album just aren’t that good.

when that chorus of starlight starts i turn into a hormonal teen again so all else is forgotten and forgiven

Never heard of them before. Overall I thought it was a poppy kind of Radiohead (which I do like) with a few heavier tracks in there. I've recommended it to my kid, and will prob revisit this, but 4 stars for me.

I was a big Muse fan back when I was 16 (circa 2001), so for me, Origin of Symmetry will always be my favourite of their albums. I didn't really get into this one in a big way. That said, it holds up better than it did in my mind before relistening. Favourite tracks: Take a Bow, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole (which sounds a tad cheesy to my ears these days but is still a banger nonetheless), Assassin, City of Delusion (tragic string arrangement in the chorus is beautiful), Knights of Cydonia (many happy memories of playing this on Guitar Hero).

Missed opportunity not to call this "For your aMUSEment"

Pas vraiment transcendant à mon avis mais album plus que correct

So my family and I went through a Muse phase from ~2008 to ~2014 ish, corresponding with my oldest children hitting their teen years. Rock, jazzy riffs, sometimes classical-ish music? Yes please. Every album from Showbiz to Resistance was on constant play in the car and at home and became the soundtracks of many road trips and Friday night music parties. And then there were the arena tours. Muse came through San Diego every January for 3-4 years straight; we attended every show and were blown away every time. All this to say it is impossible to view this album objectively given the nostalgia. Sure it's well produced, highly polished and a little too perfect but I will happily put it on at any time. 4/5

I'd say it was pretty good. Gave off like radio head and pixies vibes (kinda?) lots of different mood swings tho. I didn't listen to the lyrics though sadly

This is where Muse finds the right balance between high-minded prog and arena-ready glam. The epics are epic, the rockers shred, and the quieter songs break things up a bit. Issues only arise when they try and dip into the deeper end of the pool. They want to be like Pink Floyd so badly they got Storm Thorgerson to do art for them, but they don't quite reach that level of insight or wordplay. No wonder Glenn Beck liked them.

A few corny bits, sometimes feels like they're trying a bit too hard to be Radiohead or Jeff Buckley, but they still manage to make their own sound. Some really beautiful tracks and even the less memorable ones are still a fun listen. Favorite Tracks: Starlight, Supermassive Blackhole, Map of the Problematique, Hoodoo, Knights of Cydonia

Super massively good album. No one else sounds like Muse.

8.5/10

Really strong album. It’s pop and prog and EDM all rolled into one well produced record. So many great songs on this one album.

I recognized a couple of the songs on here, but I'm not familiar with this band at all. I liked most of the songs on this album even though they were all pretty similar. I can see listening to this again.

I remember when I was in highschool and I thought these guys were so cool. Their lyrical themes lack subtly, but I like that about them. This is a bombastic album full of swelling, near overproduced tracks. I'm betting a lot of people don't enjoy Muse's vibe, but as an ex theater kid I had a good time.

This album has a lot going for it. At times sounds a little like Cold Play, but then has bangers like Knights of Cydonia. I love a lot of the big effort songs on here most of all. So many of these albums have their best songs near the back of the album.

This is one of those albums that it's hard to review objectively because it's so familiar and I love every second of it. Origin of Symmetry was the first album I was familiar with having seen them live around this time. This album, when it was released, almost came close to that. Listening with the distance of time, I think this is actually the better album.

The album is pretty good, there are several great songs with Starlight at the top of the list. 3,75/5

Knights of Cydonia my beloved

For all the apocalyptic lyrics and heavy sound, this is ultimately melodramatic pop music -- with heavy distortion and fuzz. It's a spectacle, expertly delivered with full commitment from the band.

Really fun! I would have put Absolution or Origin of Symmetry on here instead but get that this was the "mainstream" breakthrough - that said this was infinitely better than I remembered! :)

interesting themes, high energy, bit repetitive

Debatable how much it’s stood the test of time but I’ll rate well for the nostalgia

Muse is always great.

Fan of one muse song but never heard this album. Take a bow is awesome, feels and sounds like a real album opener. I love how it just builds and builds. Bass drop is crazy. This is a really good song. Good transition into starlight. Good songwriting on this one, not as good background track imo. Black hole is very poppy. Good amount of range on this album so far. This song is really fun. Very 2006. Best guitar so far on problématique. I love the piano as well. This is another banger. Soldiers poem is fine, shows good range but not my style of music. Back on track with invincible. Started slow but songwriting is so good and picks up as the song goes on. This whole album is a great blend of pop and rock, with emphasis on the rock. Assassins is more similar to the muse I had heard prior to this. Just a good rock song. Great drums and guitar. Crazy sounds on exo politics, production is fantastic. City of delusion is good too, cool use of violin/strings. Not the best but not the worst in the album. Horns too at the end wow. Not a normal rock song at all. Hoodoo is super interesting. The first half is mid, but once the piano and following instruments come in it is awesome. I think I’ve heard knights of Cyndonia before? Banger. Classic muse. Glorious is pretty good, I’m counting Cydonia is as the last one. This is a great album. Muse is a great band. Will listen to again. 4.1 stars

Really dig this album The only songs i knew from muse were supermassive black hole and uprising from a differnet album but this music is pretty dope and younger me wouldve went feral for this “Assassin” goes bonkers “Knights of Cydonia” has horse noises so Cool

The drumming in this album compared to the last is insane. Whoever’s drumming is pretty cracked. I really enjoyed this album. Some of the lyrics and whisk Muse vibe is a nooooo cringey but it didn’t ruin it for me. Overall the music is pretty neat, heavier than I usually listen to.

It's a pretty good album with solid hits. Not quite perfect, but one that I'm happy to put on whenever.

Enjoyed this more than I expected. Felt some Tool vibes in here.

Taking Alt Rock to really a different kind of intensity - such a great album. One slight gripe would be the electronic elements which i like in a lot of songs but also they dont work in some songs, especially the slower ones. But it's not something I can't get past, so, overall a VERY good experience. My rating scheme is 2 - decent, 3 - good, 4 - great so this is a 4

Sometimes this list shocks me when it generates an album I was sentient for LMAO This caught me off guard I remember hearing some of these songs on the radio growing up and liked them...but never listened to their album in full. It wasnt bad at all, the singer has such a theatric voice. Just interesting execution overall.

I was "today years old" when I noticed Earth and the moon, poorly Photoshopped into the sky, on the album cover. Don't know why that bums me out. Anyway. "Let's mix ELO, My Chemical Romance, U2, Radiohead, 'A Night at the Opera' and... just see what happens." It's gutsy, it's overly dramatic, and it's EXTREMELY 2000s. I really like this album. It's a ton of fun, and it doesn't get weighed down by too much filler. 8/10

Another one that’s painfully close to 5 stars. Wish I could have seen these songs live

Really like Muse and this is a good album

Fun one to get to know!

What a classic. I recall this being THE Triple J album of 2006. Although I never bought the album, I heard it in its entirety more than a few times thanks to its constant airplay. These days I occasionally revisit its hits but upon this morning’s full spin I rediscovered my love for Invincible - I’d forgotten that one to time. And of course, Knights of Cydonia is of one of the most epic rock productions of the century.

Very solid album here. Some fun rock, mixed with fun synth and other futuristic noises and beats. Association with the Twilight movies almost ruined this band for me but I’m glad I came back.

Fun fact, the leader singer of Muse, Matt Bellamy, once cancelled his interviews for the week because he genuinely believed that there was an extraterrestrial asteroid about to hit Earth and kill everybody. He also believes that lizards secretly control the Earth, that he was abducted by aliens, and that 9/11 was an inside job. Actually, that last one is fair enough. Anyways, crackpot lead singers aside, this album ranges from obvious and obnoxious Radiohead ripoffs, so some genuinely good tunes. I found myself nodding along to Assassin, the guitar work is really good on that, but I will concede that the vocal style does get a little annoying. The offcuts on this thing really did stand out here - especially in the latter half of the album. Supermassive Black Hole is also a supermassive hit. Shoutout to my team Jacob Twilighters. Not a Muse fan so I'm genuinely surprised at this thing.

Muse have a really weird reputation to me. I liked them in highschool, and knew that they were pretty popular broadly, but I’ve yet to meet an adult man who says Muse is their favourite band. I’m sure a lot of their musical clout comes from being included on the soundtrack of various video games in the period 2010-2015, but I don’t know if they have any legacy from the period of this album that isn’t overshadowed by the reddit music (pejorative) that they put out now. I enjoyed this album, but without Knights of Cydonia I’d downgrade it to a 3 If you want to ruin muse for yourself forever pay careful attention to the sharp as fuck exhale the lead singer does after every line. No joke he does it on every track they have and it’s distracting as fuck once you notice it.

An interesting and energetic rock album Fav songs - Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole 4/5

Can't help it, listened to it when I was 18 so it tickles my lizard brain still

this caught on with the normies and in 2006 that was enough to turn me off of it, but now i'm a normaler person and i can admit that this is mostly weird and good, and sometimes fantastic

Litt lang, men har noen bangers. Knights of Cydonia er konge.

A solid album overall. Muse's best effort. I like the stadium rock opera aspirations Muse has. I have a soft spot for them because I feel the comparisons and accusations of ripping off Radiohead feel unfounded to me. I've also seen them live a couple of times and they put on a fantastic show. I think Muse knows where they stand in the realm of popular rock music. I don't think they were ever trying to be as innovative as Radiohead. Are they the best to ever make this kind of operatic stadium rock? No. But is this still a solid record. Supermassive Black Hole is one of their best singles. I think this album is worthy of being on this list as an example of popular alternative rock from the mid 2000s.

Reaaally good album. First three songs are my favouriteee, and ofc startlight is a goated song looove it. I dont think i was fully able to appreciate it due to my speaker, but it was a very pleasant listen and kept me company while cleaning the house.

Muse is a great band. What holds them back from being a top band, for me, is that they're a little too perfect. This could likely just be the result of them being great musicians, but still, I feel a dash of humanity would do them well. If I found out they were an AI band, I wouldn't be all that surprised. Absolution is my favorite album of theirs because it's more "rock band," but this one's pretty dang good. They started delving more into fancy-pants electronic stuff on this record, but it's not overbearing.

I've never heard this band before. They're like Radiohead with 25% less depression. First few songs slap, though it kind of slows down after that. Solid overall, though. Will I listen again? Maybe, if I can remember the name

Para guardar: "Take a Bow", "Starlight", "Supermassive Black Hole", "Assassin" , "City of Delusion" y "Knights of Cydonia".

Pretty solid! Take a bow and Knights of Cydonia great. The synth really takes it up a notch

In terms of Diet Radiohead™, I'm more of a Coldplay fan, but this was surprisingly good given what I've heard about Muse. Citing Depeche Mode and Lightning Bolt as influences was certainly a choice. I hear the Depeche Mode, but definitely not the Lightning Bolt. If they actually combined the two influences and made an overly sexy noise rock album it'd be the easiest 5 stars of my life. Sadly, we do not live in a perfect world. What we got is still a great album, though. Maybe overly derivative, but at least they did enough with it to be their own thing. The Latin influence in City of Delusion and Hoodoo alone is enough to show that.

I think this holds up pretty well. Dude's voice is a little annoying at times rising up into those notes, but on the whole this is a really solid record. I always thought of Muse being the baby of Coldplay and U2, and I think I like them more than at least U2. These guys are good players for sure and they've had quite a few hits along the way. Starlight is still a cute charlie song. I'm feeling a decent 4/5.

This shit rips

Pretty fun and actually got me singing along. Something about his slurry singing soaring above the band rocking out...

more fun than I remebered

Great. Hadn't listened in years, some excellent album tracks I'd forgotten about.

- Ich mag den typischen Muse Sound - Würde ich auf jeden Fall wieder hören, nur 1-2 Songs gefallen mir nicht so gut Topsong: Invincible

I liked this album from the start. Supermassive Black Hole has been overplayed, and I didn't really like it to begin with, but there's other great songs on here. Take a Bow, Starlight, Invincible, and City of Delusion stood out 4.5/5

Kinda silly and a bit cringe, but I still enjoy it. Sometimes you just need dorky music

Really enjoyed this album. Good vibes, good singing, I liked it.

re-defined rock. Lots of bangers.

Our hopes and expectations

What a great record. I remember vividly when this record came out. I watched the video of Knights of Cydonia on Fuse TV when it was released and it blew my mind. Neo-country surf rock space anthem??? Hell yeah. Sign me up for that shit. I love how that song just comes in hard with that Dick Dale inspired guitar riffs and then just builds from there. That song rocks. Starlight is perfect indie pop song. Its got all the feels. I love the politics and comentary of this record throughout (Take A Bow, Soldier's Poem, Exo-Politics, Assassin). Post 9/11 War of Terrorism era made this feel extra edgy and taboo. I loved Map of Problematique as a teenager, I used to listen that on repeat. (Not really sure why? I just really liked it.) My hot take is that Super Massive Blackhole does not fit the rest of the album is actually the low point for me. It is a cool indie pop song, but it kind of annoys me. Speaking of being annoyed.. like 4 of these songs were on X96 on repeat for the entirety of the 2000s. Which kind of degraded the record for me. Its also about 2 songs too long as well. And.. its a little over zealous. I love the kind of Bowie inspo spaceiness of this record, but I don't feel like they're always landing the plan. It kind of feel like the movie 500 Days of Summer in that way. Still great. Still a sick album. Cool band.

As someone who rarely listened to Muse this album sounds pretty great. Its grand, wide and polished.

It was really good, but not exactly my style. I really liked Soldier’s poem, since it was the most like calm one, while the beginning of the album sounds like heavy and metal? (Not in the music style way but in a more “guitar and drums and WAHHHH” way) and since I prefer “soft”things (like the smiths or Lana del Rey or the cure) well I was sceptical at the start. But then I listened to the last part of the album and “wow”. It’s definitely not basic and I love the album for it. There’s also Assassin who’s really good. In my opinion they’re all guitar and drums but some have more screaming than others (like in the beginning) and since I think this is what I don’t like, well it’s what actually makes me not giving a 5 stars. The beginning of City of Delusion sounds like Radiohead. Hoodoo is probably my fav one. Maybe Knights of Cydonia too, it kinda sounds like something the sort of song an edit of interstellar would have, at least that one part. Clearly people love that song, since it’s in like the top 4 of the most listened songs on the album. Glorious is “WOWWWW” and made me come to the conclusion that it does sound like Radiohead. The end did not disappoint.

What a ride that was! Whole album is a wall of explosive sound. Love it. Strong vocals that blend very well with the instrumentation. Stand out tracks are Exo Politics, Knights of Cydonia, and Starlight.

Shockingly good. I assumed I didn't like Muse based on the three songs from this album that are played incessantly on the radio. Turns out the rest of the album is much better than those (Cydonia is still good though).

Ikke hørt så mye på Muse før, men ble inspirert til å høre mer

Great!

tbh, this is a tad "big" for my tastes (stadium-focused, pompous) since I tend toward a quieter, more introspective, club-show band. However, this album is undeniably good. Not perfect by any means (again, it's a bit grandiose). I can't deny, however, that all-in-all I rated all the songs 3-plus, with several 5s. 4 stars.

Ok. This may be a merlot to you pinot noirers...but this is just fun and dramatic and nostalgic for me.

If Radiohead didn't move into more electronica with OK Computer and Kid A, I think this is what they would sound like. I've heard many times that Muse sounds like Radiohead but I didn't think so with the handful of hits they got, but listening to this album fully I totally understand now. And that's not a bad thing because this album is pretty damn good. Starlight was already on of my favorite songs ever AND the song from Twilight where they play baseball while raining is on here? That's automatically 4 stars.

they kind of fell off by knights of cydonia still kicks ass

listened to again certified hood classic

Hyvä levy. Ei varsinaisia heikkoja lenkkejä ja yks tajunnanräjäyttäjäkin.

Opening track is amazing. A bit dull in middle, Knights of Cydonia is a great track.

I was already familiar with this album. I suppose this is best classified as progressive rock, but this album touches on multiple subgenres within rock. The vocals remind me of U2, and the instrumentation is excellent. Several tracks are particularly memorable: Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, and Assassin, which would not sound out of place on a metal album, along with Knights of Cydonia. I would listen to this album again for sure.

The project did have it stand out with me, knowing the most famous song generally and it didn’t amaze me. It’s not really my favorite kind of music, but it isn’t music. I don’t like either so it is a low seven out of 10 for me.

Really good album that was already on my favorites list. I think it's great with a unique sound and catchy beats. It all fits together nicely and is an easy listen. I'm sure I will be listening to this many more times.

Mi je poznan album, ampak ga že več let nisem slišala... Začnemo ("Take a Bow") takoj s tem značilnim hitrim Muse šopanjem na, hm, sintesajzerju? (Jep, wiki prav, da je Moog.) Tak zanimiv mix elektronike in rocka. "Starlight" mi je znan. Te klavirski deli so mi bli zmer kul. Pa njegov vokal. Isto poznam naslednjega, "Supermassive Black Hole". And I like it, what's more to say. Zmatrana sem po tem tednu, ne morm bluzit. "Map of the Problematique" je non stop šopanje and it's good. Ta vmesni del v "City of Delusion" mi je res kul. Po pa randomly tak mal mediteranski vajb? Sploh ne vem, ampak kul. "Hoodoo" je počasen, lep, dinamičen, mal žalosten. In album se epsko zaključ z "Knights of Cydonia".

Energizing music on dark topics. I love it.

This album grew on me as I listened to it. I liked the album opener Take a Bow but was not feeling the more electro pop vibes of Supermassive Black Hole. The opening guitar to Maps of the Problematique got me back on board and the guitar, arrangements, and orchestral touches across the album are what sealed the deal. I was vibing to the opening of Knights of Cydonia so hard I was kinda bummed when the vocals started in.

Some of the music sounds like songs I know, but it is good music, especially when they pick up the beat.

Probably my favorite MUSE album. I really enjoy the drumming on this one.

Terrific album

Has an amazing song: super massive black hole. And many other great songs

I remember when this album came out, and first remember listening to Muse in a Virgin Records store at the mall, not sure if it was this or the Absolution record. Either way, this band was all the rage during my high school years and the opening track brought me right back to the Watchmen movie trailer from 2009 that featured “Take A Bow”. Muse has such a unique and recognizable sound as well as many songs I know very well. What a great listen and trip down memory lane for my Friday.

I was in my 20s in the 2000s, so even though I never really got into Muse, I recognized a lot of the tracks on this album. All of those radio hits were of course bangers, but I was most surprised by some of the songs that were new to me, especially Take a Bow, City of Delusion, and Glorious. To me, it falls just short of 5 star for two reasons: 1) there were a few songs I didn't particularly enjoy, and 2) they definitely have a bit of a homogeneous sound. Though, in defense of the homogeny of their sound, it is a pretty cool sound they have going on even if some of the tracks sound the same. It's like Abba meets Radiohead and the heaviness is cranked up. Overall, a very strong entry and another reminder as to why I like this era of music so much.

Only knew Knights of Cydonia coming in; Supermassive Black Hole sounds familiar; sick riffs throughout, especially Map of the Problematique and Assassin; the album was basically the exact length of my run, seems meant to be.

Honestly an enjoyable album from a band that I’ve faded a bit in the past, thinking they were “trying to be Radiohead” or something. When you think about it the only similarity between Muse and Radiohead is Matt Bellamy and Thom Yorke sing falsetto a lot. Otherwise the bands’ music is pretty different. Starlight is a tremendous song, and the whole album is solid.

Take a bow : a great introduction for the albums main tone great opener 8.5 Starlight: it's one of popular songs from the album and it's popular for a reason 8.5 Supermassive black hole: Decent song but I'm not fan of it 7.5 Map of a Problamatique: Highlight of this album with soldiers poem 9.5 Soldiers Poem: I love Matt Bellamy's humming voice and it fits the song so well and drums are great too 9 Invincible: soldiers poem but worse 7.5 Assasin: I love the knight Rider theme like riff and it felt great after 2 ballad like songs good album structure 8.5 Exo-Politics : Criminally underrated song of the album 8 City of delusion : it sounds like Radiohead's escape song(for a film) and I love that song 8.5 and the violins are brilliant Hoodoo: it sounds like one of the anathema songs but I don't know which one great power ballad 8.5 Knights of Cydonia: Never liked the song don't know why it's that much popular 6.5 Glorious: Piano run sounds like the bassline from panic attack from dream theatre, great song i don't know how to rate this because it doesn't sound like anything I know 10 points from the originality part

My initial thought upon seeing this album on the generator today was "Muse is on this list?" This was not a complaint, as I thoroughly enjoy their music though I haven't really listened to them in about 10 years. My second thought, as soon as the record started playing, was "Oh yeah, Muse is Queen for millennials." I remember thinking that back in the day when I saw Muse live, as they totally reminded me of Queen (who I saw live in the late 70's). There's overblown everything, and on this album it's in the best ways. And it also doesn't hurt that Matt Bellamy can sometimes do a mean Brian May impression. This album did not disappoint. It's all of the bombast and, yes, silliness, that is the best of Muse. Starlight is a fantastic song IMO, and there are five or six others that had me smiling and remembering why I enjoyed listening to them as much as I did back then. It's not a perfect album, so I don't think it'll get a 5, but it's a solid 4.

I knew a couple songs off this album but I think I slept on it as a whole. It's wonderful operatic metal. I'm glad that I revisited it.

Solid alternative rock album, full of some of Muse's best concert staples, but still has a handful of filler songs that get in the way of the listening experience. Bonus points for the record's title and album cover.

Would buy.

Muse is a band I’ve been messing with since my early 20’s

Музыка: 8/10 Разнообразие: 7/10 Тематика и вайб: 9/10 Цепляемость (отдельные песни зашли): 7/10 Реиграбельность (можно ли рандомно врубить на фон): 8/10 Итог: 7.8

Amazing album. So modern and clean sound.

I was completely obsessed with this album when it came out - was a very cathartic listen. Knights of Cydonia and Starlight are still instant classics to this day, but it's not quite a perfect record.

Muse is cool. Like U2 meets Soundgarden with a little techno circus music.

Not my favourite muse album but still very good!

I really enjoyed this album. You can hear the influences, like Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode.

Some outstanding tracks. Iconic riffs unfortunately drenched in wild self indulgence

Been a while since I’ve heard this, some cool rock opera moments, perhaps some self indulgent ones that didn’t need to be here but on the whole pretty nice

10 years ago this would have been an easy 5. In recent years I have soured a bit on Muse. It isn't so much that I dislike them. I still enjoyed this album. It just felt more lacking than it once did.

Epic sounding, big songs... may be a little too much at points, but generally great stuff

I enjoyed this album more than I expected. Soldiers Poem and Take a bow really stood out to me as unique, especially amidst the rest of the album.

нормалек.

Divertido y fresco de principio a fin. 4💫

This is a pretty solid album. Nothing too challenging, or revolutionary, but very tight and generally a good time. Definitely tries for an epic feeling, and it kinda works, but doesn't leave a lasting impression.

Liked this less overall than I remembered back in the day. I still enjoyed it a lot but some tracks just lulled for me. Of course you have the massive bangers of Supermassive Black Hole (which just makes me want to watch Twilight) and Knights of Cydonia. Those epic ones are what Muse has always done best. (3.5 stars)

Really good.

Held up better than I expected, honestly. 3.5/5

I’ve always been a Muse skeptic. I do think it’s corny at times, but the music is undeniably impressive.

Spiritual successor to Queen. Feels like a rock opera. Best: Starlight, knights of cydonia, exo politics

This album is delightfully beautiful, at many times oneiric, with quite interesting instrumentals. However, some songs weren't really of my like, feeling more like pop songs with not much interest. Overall, this is a good album, pretty solid, but not a 10, nor a 9. I'll give it an 8. And still I've liked it a lot, but there are things that are not that nice. It could have been much better.

So tempted to write "I don't usually like heavy metal" just to troll. I never got into Muse back when, and I get the Radiohead-lite criticism, but I enjoyed this. The songs are satisfying, well-polished in parts and deliberate in their roughness, like a Shona sculpture

This was really cool. Memes aside, I’ve always liked Supermassive Black Hole so the rest of the album keeping up with it is awesome. Very interesting epic space rock vibes with some more haunting songs I really enjoyed. Some of the lyrics were cheesy but overall a really solid album.

I know and vaguely like a couple of their (later) albums already, but haven't heard most of the songs on this one. As always with Muse, I enjoy the vibe and would listen again, but mostly all their songs just sound 'Muse-ish'? i.e. distinctively them, but none of them very memorable or standing out from the others for me?

Knights of cydonia - гімн боротьби.

Great heavy music album. Knights of Cydonia is an absolute classic

Just a few underwhelming moments on what is an extremely impressive record. Very cohesive and sticks to the otherworldly themes and sounds. Knights of Cydonia" is an all time classic. 4/5

Really enjoyed this, lots of great songs. I also feel like I could have missed some pretty sophisticated musicianship by being uninformed on what I should listen for. 4/5 for today but I could see myself rating this anywhere from 3-5 stars on any given day

Muse are never quite as good as I want them to be. This is probably their best record too. Knights of Cydonia is a tune though

Pretty solid album, one of my favourite songs in there

Muse is good!

Paar goeie bangers maar ook wat herrie

Not sure to give it a 4 or a 5, really enjoyed this album, lots of bangers and iconic songs. Wasn't too familliar with Muse, but i get why they are huge within the genre.

J’adore Muse, et je n’avais pas encore pris le temps d’écouter cet album en entier… Une erreur maintenant réparée!

A band and album I have heard a lot before this and with songs that appear often on my playlists. Really good music from a good band with their own style. Not much more to say.

Nostalgic and one of the surprisingly best live shows at ACL fest

Great great album from top to bottom. Only listened to it once!

4 Stars (11/15)

Excellent album. Well produced and arranged. Muse is not my regular go-to music, but it's ok from time to time.

4/5 Très bon album, avec de bons singles qui font toujours le taf ! Par contre, un peu longuet…

This band has some great electric vibes

A really good surprise for me. I wasn’t interested in Muse back when it was all the rage (I probably wasn’t the target demographic), so I never gave them a chance. I wasn’t expecting much from this album... but I ended up listening twice in a row (to my own surprise). I know perfectly well that it’s not super original, that it’s derivative, that it’s partly a louder Radiohead clone... Nonetheless, I think they really make it work, and definitely bring something to the table (at least more than other imitators from the same time period). There’s a scope and an ambition in this album that I really appreciated – it’s loud and bombastic, the orchestration is epic, and there’s some surprisingly heavy guitars. It’s not a gamechanger, but it’s pop-rock done right. Will definitely listen again.

It’s this kind of music that’s responsible for turning me into the dirty, god forsaken socialist I am today. Still rocks pretty hard though.

This was mostly on in the background for me, but I got good vibes.
