Reviews (page 6 of 13)

For a three piece band, the music is impressive. I’ve always liked muse, but the vocals are kind of a downer. Like the tone is very whiny to me even if that’s not the intention. I still think it’s an excellent album.

twighlight

Perhaps we were a bit harsh on you, my friend Zach.

Actually my first time listening to a full record by these guys, always been turned off by comparisons to Coldplay and Radiohead… but I think those comparisons are unwarranted now and that they have a pretty idiosyncratic sound. Love that they blast on their instruments sometimes but not all the time.

Oerhört varierat och väldigt musikaliskt. Behöver lyssna mer för att komma in i det men minst en fyra!

I used to live and breathe this album. Every Muse record up to this one reminds me of my ex, though - it's as if all the feelings have etched themselves into the very notes of the songs. I don’t feel this music in my bones the way I did back then, but it’s still enjoyable, and definitely nostalgic.

Better than I remember. Liked it more than I thought I would.

Unique sound, like rock through a static radio. Uniquely muse, uniquely good. Strong 3.75-4 stars

> The Beatles

Really enjoyed this, although it wasn’t new to me. If ever you wondered what Queen would sound like covering Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti western soundtracks with Thom Yorke on guest vocals, then you’re in for a treat. I would love to see this lot live - must be epic.

Another album that makes me happy I am doing the 1001 list. I knew very little about Muse or their music before I listened. I don't know how to describe them, like a mashup of New Order, U2, Radiohead, Queen, NIN/industrial-adjacent, and electronica, I guess. Whatever it is, it is a very unique and engaging sound. Amazing album that makes me interested in exploring some of their other music.

I never understood why Muse had a big following but aftwr listening to this album I can understand why. They got a niche of metak and pop that somehow worked. The album was good, they hit the nail on some songs (mainly singles) but Matt Bellamy falsetos can be overwhelming at times and the guitars to repetitive I kinda feel it is a concept album but meh. The fact that itvwas a soundtrack for twilight doesn't help as well.

I really love this album, my favorite of theirs 9.7 ★★★★½

The best Muse album. Very cool a d anthemic. 4.5 stars

Amazing album

Grandiose and over-indulgent, and I like it! At least most of it. Starlight is an obvious highlight, but the triple treat of tracks 6-8 is also a really nice gift

Though I started listening to Muse to impress Maria DiMarzio in high school, I have found very high highs with their songs. I probably listen to Starlight once a week and it’s a never-skip for me. I’ve got 5 songs saved coming out of this listen and am happy for the trip down memory lane here. Oh Maria. What could’ve been.

This album rocks. Right from the buildup in Take a Bow I knew I was in for some fun. The blend of rock and electronic is put together so well, and the way different sub-genres of rock show up throughout the album really helps keep you interested to see what’s coming next. I went back and forth between a four and five while I was thinking about this album, and I’m going with a four due to length and the sometimes difficult to understand vocals.

I listened on Friday and I'm reviewing on Monday. I know that's not the best way to review albums, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single thing about it. I know it wasn't bad, but clearly not a standout. After being called out by the group, I gave this album another listen. It's much better than the original 3 I gave it. I absolutely love "Starlight", but I'm still not convinced this album is a 5. I think it's his voice that does it for me. It's right on the edge of being annoying. Still, a really good album.

Such a great album that I have listened to in years

Great album. Probably 4.5 for me

The opening feels like Queen (Flash era) and the weakest song for me. The rest of the album feels more distinctly Muse. It has a fun operatic rock style that could be a successor to Iron Maiden without sounding like ripping them off. It's easy to imagine how enjoyable a live show would be.

I like this album, Big stadium rock with some Muse classics. Would listen to this loud.

Some great stadium rocking moments, such as Assassin, SMBH, Knights of Cydonia, Starlight, etc. The lyrics are a bit meh, but taken in the right spirit this is a strong album, if not their best.

One of my fave albums, was excited to see it show up on the list.

Starlight and hoodoo hit me personally. Take a bow and knights of Cydonia are amazing tracks. Assassin is also underrated in the catalogue. But absolution is THE muse album. 4/5

I knew this album existed from knights of cydonia on guitar hero. I also have a special place in my heart for muse because my friend David and I absolutely jammed out to them hanging out in my room on a really good day. Flows nicely. Sounds out of this world.

Oh yeah.. Muse at the top of their game. A nice mix of progressive-rock and indie

I had this album from around when it came out but hadn't listened to it since. Great to revisit. The maximalist approach really suits Muse as a band. They've never been subtle so might as well chuck it all at the wall. The mixture of synths and guitar is great and the weird conspiracy vibe fits perfectly

Muse had a foundational sound on this album

supermassive black hole is good honestly better overall than I expected, good stuff generally couldn't help but think of twilight...

It's been a while since I listened to it and I think it still holds up. But I don't know if it is effortlessly relistenable. For that reason 4/5.

Muse is a big sound. It is so slick-the music equivalent of a Marvel movie. But just because it it crazy slick and hella produced doesn't mean it is bad. If I need to feel the motivation on the treadmill like I am running through a dystopian, evil-robot filled landscape, this is the music to get me there!

Banger album. 9/10

Black Holes and Revelations... Muse as a band had a rough start in America, after touring their first album (Showbiz) as the opener for RHCP/Foo Fighters, they decided that their creative freedom was more valuable to them and decided to not release their second album (Origin of Symmetry) in america with their original american music label (Madonna's Maverick Records) like the rest of the world in 2001. That made them tour for their follow up in colleges and small theatres for Absolution, which made them have a small but loyal fanbase in the US. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fSURP7E6I7U The inclusion of Supermassive Black Hole in the twilight movie worked wonders for the popularity of the band. What do I feel about it 20 years after it was released? It still holds on, but it is not my favorite muse album 4/5 Knights of Cydonia as a epic still holds on, but it was fonzie jumps the shark moment for Muse, everything afterwards felt less epic than this. Not necessarily their fault, but its how I feel about the band, future albums could have great songs, but concepts or self impossed rules made them less good than they probably could have done. Favorites: Knights, Take a Bow, City of Delusion

7/10 vampire baseball

Matt Bellamy can't seem to stop ascending the harmonic minor scale

Great album 👌

Som bäst är detta 5/5 alla dar i veckan med Map of the problematique som är en av mina favoritlåtar. Tyvärr håller inte deras försök till variation måttet dock. :(

Fan vad bra Knights of Cydonia är! Guitar Hero-klassiker. Resten av albumet också riktigt bra!

Awesome album

Enjoyed. More songs on here that I recognized than I had originally thought I would.

84/100. Great album to run to, only knew Knights of Cydonia before listening. Not something for every day but would like to see them live, great bass and drums

Good album good songs mix of style

War am Anfang bei fünf Sternen, wiederholte sich dann aber doch zu oft und zu lange. Trotzdem geniale Songs drauf.

All in all, quite great! Difficult to decide whether Starlight or Knights of Cydonia was my fav track. You do get the feeling that there's something missing, though - it all starts to sound samey in the end.

It is odd that this album got removed in later versions of this list, at least four of these songs were radio hits I knew before I listened. Fuzzy sound and politically conscious lyrics feature prominently, while also filled to the brim with bombastic electronic production. The revolution never sounded so dramatic.

twilight soundtrack mentioned!!! enjoyed this. a lot, actually. thought about giving this a 5, but 4 stars is probably more accurate.

Unexpected banger of an album

Banger

Amazing album, except for Mother.

3.5/5, Great album, but not their best.

I feel like you don’t normally use the word penultimate when reviewing an album, but Knights of Cydonia is the best penultimate song of all time.

Ive always been tenuous about Must, mostly because I find the singers voice to be a little grating. Upon listen though, I actually found myself enjoying this a lot. The drama and emotion they bring to the rock / pop-rock genre is captivating, and I liked a lot of the "non-hits" Overall- very solid album

It’s solid I like absolution by them better but it’s better than origin of symmetry imo

The bombast of this album still works for me. The band’s tight - the bass lines are always moving like a storm at the edge of breaking. I feel like the band isn’t taking itself too seriously on this one, and that definitely helps to swallow the excesses.

Another album I haven’t listened to in a while that will be back in my rotation

V pohode album Muse, neni ale lepsi nez 2001 album

Really good album, though a bit front-heavy when it comes to the best songs. Ending on Glorious was an odd choice, considering this is an album full of bangers. Favorite song is Map of the Problematique. Sad that Muses legacy feels a bit tarnished, I guess because of the type of bands they inspired. They deserve better.

This is a great album. The way the first 3 songs lead the album off gets this album rolling like a freight train. Highly recommend.

Great album, their last good one! Still no Origin of Symmetry tho

Being the Twilight baseball song boosts an average album to above average.

Killer song to open the album Starlight: I love this Regrettably, I haven't ever listened to this entire album before. I have missed a lot of time that I could have been listening to more than the 3 or 4 singles on it. The deeper cuts are fantastic as well. Map of the Problematic has a a really cool feel. Great vocal pairings between the lead and accompanying voices. The choir effect is very befitting of the song Invincible reminds me a lot of a U2 song Assassin has a great fast-paced opening, leading into Muse's signature style, which I quite like In City of Delusion, the transition to a sort of Middle Eastern/ mariachi interlude was a really cool contrast with the rest of the song The intro to Hoodoo is very reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, and after reading Bellamy's Wikipedia page, that seems to track pretty well Knights of Cydonia is awesome. If you're not banging your head and tapping your feet to this song, I don't think you liked anything on this album. This is such a cool surf guitar/western movie-themed song. There's even some Daft Punk/Tron sounding stuff in there It's albums like this that make me glad I'm going through this list. I liked Muse. I knew a few tracks on this album. Now, having heard the entire thing, I'm going to intentionally listen to these guys a lot more, and I'm going to look for shows of theirs I can attend. This album made me a Muse fan, rather than someone who had heard a few of their songs .

This is not a band I've really invested any time into before, so much so that I wouldn't have been able to name a single song of theirs, or name a member of the band. Track 1 (Take A Bow) was decent. Track 2 (Starlight) I'd heard before, but wouldn't have known it was one of their songs. I like it though. Track 3 (Supermassive Black Hole) is an absolute banger, don't think I'd ever heard it previously. Fuck me, this album is starting to excite me. Track 4 (Map Of The Problematique) is decent, certainly listenable, a bit of a comedown from the previous track but still ok. Track 5 (Soldier's Poem) reminds me of Queen, completely different sound from the previous tracks but really enjoyable and it somehow fits. Track 6 (Invincible) was another "decent" track. Track 7 (Assassin) was my least liked track so far, but still ok. Track 8 (Exo-Politics) is back on target, another good track. Track 9 (City Of Delusion) pretty good. Track 10 (Hoodoo) listenable, not the best track though. Track 11 (Knights Of Cydonia) talk about save the best 'til last, an absolute belter to round the album off. It was so much better than I was expecting. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. I think it's close to being 5 stars, but I'm going with 4.

The more I know about Outer Space, the more terrifying it becomes.

9/10. I do not understand why this album was taken off of later versions of "1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". I love its proggy vibes!!! :)

4/5. I liked it better than I expected to being I don’t know much Muse. I liked the electronica, the epic sound. Great vocals, great harmonies. Would listen to again.

Mye bedre enn ventet

The only Muse I really knew was 'Knights of Cydonia' from my Guitar Hero days. This album was better than I expected. Chalk up another interesting Wikipedia music genre "Space Rock."

Bel rock, potente ed espressivo. Mi ha gasato un botto, da prendere.

classic

Overall: 7/10 I went on a date with a woman I matched on with on tinder years ago who had absolutely monstrous sized breasts and she showed up to our date wearing a Muse shirt which I thought was so awesome and after the date she messaged me to tell me she didn't want to go on another date with me cause I was a huge pervert who couldn't stop staring at her boobs and I spent the next half an hour convincing her that I just really loved her Muse shirt and we ended up going on a few more dates after that cause she didn't know I was such a huge Muse fan but sadly it didn't work out. God, she had great tits. For real though, this is a pretty good album but I've listened to it so much that it kind of became background noise for me. I think they have better albums but I love the stadium rock/Queen feel that they have going for themselves. Knights of Cydonia is an incredibly epic song that I used to absolutely smash on Guitar Hero and Supermassive Black Hole could have been a Prince song honestly. Fav Song: Knights of Cydonia Least Fav Song: Hoodoo

Groupe connu. =>4/5

Very, very good. Dynamic album with lots of different sounds and distinct songs. The techno sounds work well with the guitar work (which was fantastic this album), and the Muse singing style. Obsessed obsessed obsessed with the end of Map of the Problematique, definitely my favourite 45 seconds of the whole album. Did I love every song on the album? No, but there was enough in there for me to really enjoy myself. 4/5 stars.

Really enjoyed this!! Some of it felt a biiit similar to Ok Computer, but it wasn’t too much an issue, I’ll definitely check out more by these guys!

Spectacular, this music sounded very cinematic and punchy which is something I enjoy a lot, the songwriting and album concept were very solid too. My only complaint is I got a little bored in the middle but it picked right back up at at the end. Favorite Tracks: Take A Bow, Starlight, Knights Of Cydonia, and Hoodoo.

Oh, hooray! This is like the Californication album cover but with some dudes sitting there. It doesn't scream "Muse". But the album is great. Peak college listening. Come to find out this too is considered "space rock"!? I mean, I guess several of the song titles suggest space, but who knew that was my secret favorite genre? Although they don't shy away from an electric guitar, Matt Bellamy has both a unique voice and a 2000s-rock-countdown-coded voice. One thing I like about Muse is that their sound is very 'thick' -- no empty spaces at all. The orange juice of music. Also, the mashup 'Teardrop Madness' is one of my all-time favorites (although 'Madness' is not on this album). Highlights: 'Starlight' (very good), 'Supermassive Black Hole' (ruined and revitalized by Twilight the Movie and college acapella, not necessarily in that order), 'Invincible' (cringey lyrics, but I appreciate the positivity, plus it reminds me of silly MCR)

I knew Supermassive Black Hole before listening to the whole album. Thought the album was fun and solid. I’m a bit torn because some of these songs are so awesome, but not quite enough to reach a 5 for me. Maybe at a later date, but definitely an album to return to.

Musen tunnistaa kun sen kuulee. Makee levy ja tätä pitäisi kuunnella enemmänkin

Millennial magic. Great album, great songs.

I think muses biggest problem is how overly earnest they are with some fairly over the top ridiculous lyrics and music. Could do with more of a sense of fun, but I just can't see this as being as horrendous as some people some to think. Still entertaining 3.5*

Muse has some pretty good songs, My favorite of which isn't on this album. However, Supermassive Black Hole is a banger as well. The record overall is pretty good. About 3.7 stars from me.

Points for Starlight which is an exception song.

I didn't hear it whole but I really enjoyed some of the songs

I understand the mixed reviews on this one but I genuinely found it enjoyable. Muse was my first concert and seeing Starlight, Knights of Cydonia, and Take A Bow live were mind blowing. Many of the lyrics are shallower than I previously thought (at 16) but the thematic and musical elements of the album still hold up for me.

Good background for what I was going. No idea what the lyrics were

It was really good. It was pleasant while also being interesting. I will definitely listen again.

4.0 - Very Good

It's still really good, but I'm not sure it's as good as I thought it was growing up, and it's definitely not as good as Matt Bellamy thinks it is. Some excellent musicianship on display, though, but my long-standing point remains that Take A Bow is an absolutely garbage track to open on.

Rating: 4/5 | Favorite Track: Supermassive Black Hole --- This album is just pure fun and energetic alternative rock. I love the sci-fi theme that permeates the tracklist. Great listen!

Decent album. Will have to listen to again... Assuming I ever find myself in a situation where I would choose to listen to The Muse...

I have fond memories of seeing this album cover as a kid and assuming this must be the most boring shit ever. I take it back now — they somehow make prog rock catchy. If anything it could actually benefit from being a little more toned down.

Muse rocks and I'm tired of pretending like they don't. Yea, this would definitely feel annoying on the third or fourth listen in a short time period - but every once in awhile throwing on a Muse album kicks ass Best Song: Starlight Rating: 7/10 (Solid) Stars: 4/5

Excellent album!

Brings back old memories also listened too it like a month ago

Album reminds me of the period of my life immediately after college when I was trying to navigate complete upheaval in my life. This was one of those albums that was always just on in the background. Good stuff then, and good stuff now.

Abby choreographed a dance to Map of the Problematique

Enjoyed it - a good rock vand

Good, it was rock but kind of different, it sounded like there were some aspects of electrical music but I’m not sure if that’s just what I heard .

The first track on the album should be the last track on the album, or just not on the album. The ballad should be deleted. Some sneaky tracks changing genres 2 mins in. Call me crazy but I really enjoyed it minus the bad ones. The good tracks were great. The bad tracks are annoying. I loved the guitar; don't know what any lyrics were only because I was more engrossed in the music not the singing.

I had heard quite a few of these tracks. I always thought the instrumentals were cool, but never liked his singing. Still a pretty good album overall

music gets less inspired at the end and sort of feels like it’s trying to replicate the first half of the album would give it 3.5/5 if i could but because it starts off very strongly i’ll round up

If Coldplay are the "sell-out" Radiohead, then Muse are the "metal" Radiohead and, given my sensibilities, it makes sense that I hate the former but have a soft spot for the latter. They are a bit of a guilty pleasure - often bombastic and silly, and I think you have to be in the right mood AND pick and choose the songs, but there are fair few good ones on this album. Enough to give it a better than average score.

Solid Queen, Metallica, Rage against the Machine, Radiohead mash up covers band…. What’s not to like…. I love it!

Not big fan of Muse but I really enjoyed the album on a whole.

I read something a long time ago to the effect of "Muse makes music for people who comment on reddit 'you, my good sir, have won the internet for today'", and I think about that a lot. I don't really listen to them anymore but in middle school I was a big fan, so this album takes me back. For music that I listened to a lot in middle/high school and don't anymore, it's a bit of a coin toss on whether I might enjoy it or the vibes will be rancid and put me in a weird and bad mood. But I enjoyed listening to this. It's a bit over the top and symphonic, but in a way that's far enough away from Queen and in the direction of, say, System of a Down that those become positives instead of negatives. This album is a little bit all over the place, from the almost Coldplay-esque ballad in "Starlight", to the heavily distorted synths on "Supermassive Black Hole", to the soft and minimal "Soldier's Poem", to the heaviest track on the album in "Assassin", to flamenco and Arabic influences that close out the album on "City of Delusion" and "Hoodoo". The very last track, "Knights of Cydonia", sounds very Ennio Morricone. I could understand how this could be an annoying amount of stylistic hopscotch for some people, but I really enjoyed it. When I first put on this album, I wasn't sure if it was going to hold up nearly 20 years later. I am surprised to find that coming back to it, with a richer understanding and appreciation for music than I had when I was literally like 12, I like this album more, not less.

Great album, very nostalgic

I am a Muse fan, but after a thorough listen, I must admit this album has not aged as well as I remembered. I give it 4 stars because there are some really great songs in between.

Really fun album. It’s got all the glam-metal theatricality of Queen fused with the sci-fi dystopian vibe of Radiohead’s “OK Computer.” I forgot that Muse can get pretty heavy. “Supermassive Black Hole” is of course an awesome song, but “Assassin” is also a really sick, heavy track too. Man, I remember being so into “Starlight” when this first came out. It’s cheesier than I remember, but I also kind of like the cheesiness.

Muse is a really great modern band that does a lot of things right, and has some of the best and catchiest arena-rock hooks that you'll ever hear. In fact when I think of specifically current arena-rock type bands, I'm pretty much thinking of them first. "Starlight" is impressively beautiful, even after hearing this song thousands of times on rock radio over the past ~19 years. Break this all down into a piano ballad and it would still be gorgeous. Make it into a blues song and it would grab your heart and squeeze it. Great track. The thing that is keeping it from a 5/5 for me is that I often want some kind of respite from the super compressed drums and synths. I'd really love some parts where the layers are played softly. To me it sounds like when they want a quieter part, they will just turn down the volumes of whatever layers they want.

This project is so fun. I’ve only heard The Muse on the radio or music videos. Great songs all around. Favorite so far is Map of Problematic.

Better than i expected, a really good listen

As evidenced by the album cover, it's a bit too grandiose for my liking but there is no denying that parts of this go extremely hard. Really 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous enough to round up. Not something that would be in the regular rotation, but might flip it on when I'm in a certain anthemic-needing mood.

Knights of Cydonia *chef’s kiss*

It's good, Knights of Cydonia easily my favourite on the album, they have a good sound and energy although I found the middle of the album a little sedate

They have such a melancholic, kind of apocalyptic, sound. I like it, but there isn't much variation.

если бы это были только black holes and частичные revelations......... я люблю всем сердцем карту проблематики (Map of the Problematique) и старлайт!! восторгаюсь от неизбежной мелодичности остальных композиций данного альбома, но, похоже, что не более того

Supermassive black hole is one of my favourite rock intros of all time, starlight also a great song and there are a few other bangers in there I hadn't heard before

Lenge siden eg har hørt på muse

Great album! Stand out songs are Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Knights of Cydonia. They really come up with some amazing bass tones and guitar stylings. Found myself getting tired and miffed by the vocal style, but on some songs it fits perfectly! I really enjoyed the album and will spin it again.

Is this right?

8/10. Some serious bangers on this album tbh. At times it actually gave me Radiohead vibes and while I think it was often less artistically 'interesting', I thought the riffs writing itself and often times the timbre were superior. They had a few more heavier numbers that I did enjoy - again even if the riffs writing was simplistic, the crisp vocals and instrumentation made the simplicity effective. Obviously multiple very iconic tracks on here (Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight, Knights of Cydonia), its a shame that some of the mid section was a bit slow and forgettable for me but overall very enjoyable.

Muse is rock music for middle aged men who work in consultancy and insurance. I also think they’re a worse early Radiohead. Saying that, I LOVE this album! Favs: Take a bow Starlight Supermassive black hole Assassin- MY FAV Knights of Cydonia Glorious

Albumi #176, 15.03.2025 Musen neljäs studioalbumi julkaistiin vuonna 2006. Black Holes and Revelations on ehdottomasti Musen parhaita albumeita. Levy sisältää mielestäni muutaman todella loistavan kappaleen.

Better than I remembered.

It was nice

6/12, 50%

No private session used for Spotify. I used to listen to Muse, and this album a lot, not sure why I stopped. Best band in the genre "Space Pirate Rock" I can think of. It's fun, it's high energy, and super dramatic.

Knights of Cydonia, starlight, several great tracks, beautiful and innovative instrumentations, and arrangements, overall just awesome.

Massive, but I did love it growing up so I’m biased. Probably the last good album before they went off the boil.

89/100.. Black Holes and Revelations by Muse is a highly enjoyable alt-rock record, capturing the iconic sound of their early era. The album features strong vocals, thought-provoking themes, and dynamic instrumentation, making it one of their best releases. A powerful and engaging listen that showcases Muse at their peak.

Nice stadium rock with great synth mix and good vocals . Drags in the middle but the start and end shine

Has the big symphony song on it

Still haven’t seen them live 😔

In my collection, love it

Pretty good

Some songs by Muse just HIT, and then others just really fall flat for me, but I enjoyed the overall vibe of the album. Their music kinda makes me feel like I’m about to get abducted by aliens but in a fun way? Starlight, super massive black holes, and knights of cydonia are all incredible songs in my opinion. 3.8/5

I think this 1001 Album thing has made me a fan of Brit Rock, which is starting to worry me

Didn't realize how much I liked Muse. Trippy at times. My highlights are Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia with Hoodoo up there. Really enjoyed.

Really enjoyed it

I liked this one and I felt like I’d heard parts of it before. Good pair of openers in “Take a Bow” and “Starlight.” There was a comment elsewhere here about Coldplay inheriting the quiet end of Radiohead and Muse inheriting the loud end and I can definitely see that.

they tried reheating Thom Yorke’s nachos and honestly? it worked for me

This album made me believe in aliens

Thumbs up

I'mma be honest! BHAR is not my fave. I think it's very good but I'm not so much into the space-y stuff. I do like most of the few lyrics that are intelligible.

Time yorke is that you??? Kidding…. I am now a muse fan! I really wanted to give this a 5. It had the legs. It’s not unfortunately, BUT it’s a lovely album. Everything up to assassin is such a journey. Supermassive black hole is worth the listen just on its own especially progressing to the soldiers poem which is a delicate and beautiful song. It’s one of those musical experiences that immediately understood who their inspirations were but it didn’t bother me. For me, that says a lot. I hope to visit the rest of your artwork

Like a faster harder and more emo U2. Kinda better than U2. Solid 3.5 goin to 4. Twilight tried destroying Vampiric Lore.

Amazing

Some Muse albums get quite annoying, but this album contained a lot of good songs. I like it

Feels like a mashup of NIN, Cake, Weezer, and Queen, sprinkled with some old school Radiohead. I liked;)

Decent revelation

Didn't like some tracks but overall enjoyed it. Knights of Cydonia is fantastic

Not too familiar with Muse but I really enjoyed this album.

Really good album

Back to being sixteen.

my running jam

This is one of those albums i always listen to. Muse had a great first 5 run. Lyrically, melodically it’s sound. Even the bonus track is great. Some songs get old like Supermassive Black Hole or Starlight but they still hype me up. Soldier’s Poem is a hidden gem. Some people might find this album noisy or Bellamy’s falsettos may not be what they’d enjoy but not for me. Overall it’s a guitar based album and one of the last mainstream ones so even that deserves 5 stars. Ps.: I recommend everyone to listen Knights of Cydonia on H.A.A.R.P live album, the energy is contagious.

Good album but don’t love it.

Muse’s second or third best, but probably the most focused album they’ve released.

Starts off with a banger, rest of the album is kind of mid

Can’t believe this was their last good album

I liked it. Enjoyed the hits and had enough variation to hold my interest.

quite good!

Kinghts of Cydonia, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole. A lot of songs with a lot of different sound variation, however characteristic to the album. It tickles your brain in the right way.

Potente. Tenia tiempo sin escuchar algo así.

Muse is one of those bands that I really have to be in the mood to listen to, but when I do I really enjoy them. That said I still cannot listen to them for too long, they can get a little monotone after awhile. I just listened to this album I'll be OK for the next year if I don't hear another album. A song here and there sure (I have a few sprinkled in my playlists) but not a whole album. To me the album is a solid 4 when in the mood.

Never was a great Muse fan but this album Rocks! Good variety in songs also! Better vocals of Matt than on the earlier albums (too much breathing before each line he sings)...

takes me back :’)

Starts brilliantly and stays good but settles into something not quite worthy of a 5. Feels like everything has to be massive

Why I have not listened more to Muse before?!?! Supermassive Black Hole takes me back<3

4 estrelas

Liked it! Great start for this musical journey

I love this Album. I've always liked Muse.

The best Muse album?

Muse is alright in my books.

It was good, some of the tracks were too slow, but supermassive black hole is a banger.

Love Muse. So great songs on this one.

9/1001 The album started out really funky and enjoyable I must say. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of a good chunk of the material. Of course some of the songs got a bit repetitive or forgettable, but when they were on point it was a great listen. Especially Assassin, which I think had a really great riff. 3,5/5

Better towards the end, last two tracks are bangers.

Black Holes and Revelations was my final album of 2024 and it was more suitable than I thought. From Wiki: “it features political and dystopian themes, with lyrics covering topics such as political corruption, alien invasion, revolution and New World Order conspiracies, as well as more conventional love songs..” so yeah, 2024. Muse has a pretty epic sound. Hard-hitting, yet melodic. Often compared to Queen and Radiohead, it’s like the perfect mix of the two bands. Very enjoyable album, I gotta put more time into this band.

Oh, this is quite the remarkable and creative album. Muse not only created a unique sound for themselves but impacted alternative rock while making it impossible for others to copy them. Black Holes and Revelations is haunting, beautiful, and epic. Nothing is dull or subpar. And the lyrics are engaging and provocative.

Muse really cemented their signature sound with this album, and I have always dug it. This album in particular definitely finds ways to pepper in progressive and space rock genres and make them both more approachable to a general public. Most of this album is just generally a vibe to me, with a couple of standout tracks that I never grow tired of (looking at you: "Starlight", "Supermassive Black Hole", and "Knights of Cydonia"). I would put this at about a 3.5, but worthy of a round up from my perspective.

Definitely a standard alternative rock feel, but enough unique sounds to make it their own and be fresh.

I like this album, powerful, creative, and plenty of nice sounds. The ending of Invincible and all of Assassin are awesome. Hoodoo is painful. City of delusion, Map of the problematic and Knights of Cydonia are epic.

it's odd that for all their influences, for all that they allegedly draw from Depeche Mode, Lightning Bolt, and (yeah, sure) Sly & the Family Stone, they just can't help but sound like nerdier Queen. like, that's all i can hear -- these theater kid vocals swaying through ever present guitar flourishes and the ever so slight difference of the bass being super loud. there's great songs here, but i think any ambitions for a big coherent prog rock project are sorely misaimed. in no way do i dislike Black Holes and Revelations with its earnest operatics and drama, but i still find myself remembering how dull Queen could have been if it were led by anyone but Freddie Mercury. Bellamy comes close, but Earth's close to Mars, and Mars is still really fucking far away. and god, i hate Hipgnosis. such ugly covers of greasy men standing in glossy deserts. thank god "Knights of Cydonia" is on here or this thing would be a half point lower for the crime of looking at the cover.

I respect it, but the enjoyment levels are low. That’s personal though - I always thought they were a little cheesy. But the talent levels and craftsmanship is high.

classic for a reason

Actually heard this one prior since I'm a fan of Muse. It's generally a superb album and Matt's vocals really help the project shine, the greatest flaw here in my view would probably be that the middle-section of the album strikes as less memorable than the rest of the material. It's overall decent however, with obvious highlights being Map of the Problematique, Starlight, and of course Knights of Cydonia. If you like grandiose alt-rock, then you'll probably like this album, definitely recommend even if it's arguably one of the weakest (pacing-wise) of their earlier releases.

4 stars. Album is fucking great, I dont know why there is some 'drama' and 'hate' around it.

I’ve always loved Muse. The hard rock version of Radiohead, and to some extent Queen’s younger cousin. There are some amazing songs on here, and it is definitely one of Muse’s best albums. Knights of Cydonia might be my favourite Muse song.

solid bangers

I know this band but I have never listened to an album.

Really grew up with this one and there are some bangers, Muse were really trying to sound like Queen here

Solid rock album!

Nice album!

Had been a long time visiting this album. Still a great piece of music!

Probably a 3.75/5 this one. I have listened to it plenty, but never straight through in one shot like today. Some iconic Muse tracks (Starlight, Assassin, and of course Knights of Cydonia). However I feel the rest of the album is a bit samey for me. I found that the lead single, Supermassive Blackhole, sticks out like a sore thumb on an album that otherwise flows nicely across its theme.

modern, progressive, rock - 2006, seems like yesterday - excellent live band too

So many bangers. A lot of artist would kill for this album to be the greatest hits of their careers. Cautionary tale: Just because you love Muse, doesn't mean you should choose a song by them for karaoke.. Especially not if the song is Supermassive Black Hole... RIP eardrums of people in the bar in Copenhagen back in 2012ish..

This album somehow still sounds so futuristic, which is crazy given it's 18 years old. It is cohesive, and flows well. All the songs are great (and I was excited to listen to Knights of Cydonia).

Maybe I'm biased, but I love Muse. I think their discography is incredibly diverse from their early days to how they sound now. That being said, I love this album. I've never listened to the full thing before. So many highs with Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, and my personal favourite Knights of Cydonia (thanks Guitar Hero). And I discovered a new song from here that I really enjoyed, Assassin! Not a perfect album, but really solid. 4/5

Лучшая песня - Map of the Problematique.

Fairly shocking I’ve never listened to this Muse album considering I’ve heard all the new stuff. Definitely one of the best out of the discography. Map of the Problematique was a standout I’ve never heard before, and Knights of Cydonia always brings back good memories/is a banger. Will definitely listen again.

Classic album with many amazing songs. It is really just not enough for me to give 5 stars.

very good blend of symphonic sounds, melodic rock and funk. Songs are all to the point and solos add to rather than take away from the effect

226/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Go big or go home and Muse shoot for the stars It’s massively overblown and full of itself but it’s a great ride

4/5. Awesome sauce. The dissonance and heaviness mixed with accessible and catchy melodies and lyrics. The lyrics are weird and spacey while also political. Some of the songs do carry similar structure and just being loud is a main feature of some songs. Love the vocals and guitar. Plus there are at least 4 songs on here that are absolute bangers. The main issue comes around the second half of the album, I kind of lose interest and then it comes back around in the last two songs. Otherwise, a great collection of songs. Best Song: Supermassive Black Hole, Invincible, Starlight

I enjoyed the album, since I heard its hits back in the early 2000s. I loved Assassin a lot as well as Knights of Cydonia. Loves the strumming overall.

I've never really liked Muse, but I will admit this is a great album

Ah, it’s been a couple of years since I listened to this, so pleasant to encounter it here. Never understood all the Radiohead comparisons but it seems more obvious now, though most of the similarities seem to me in the vocals rather than the music. In any case, this album has plenty of lovable bangers, and I don’t recall finding Take a Bow to be one of my favorites, but now it definitely is.

Tantos años sin escuchar a Muse y esto me devuelve a tiempos mucho más simples. Sonido de oro planeta. 4.5/5

This album opens with a huge bombastic blast with arpeggiated synths, huge guitar riffs and crashing drums, like Queen crossed with Phillip Glass. It calms down a little after that with Starlight sounding a bit like Coldplay, although Supermassive Black Hole returns to the big 70s glam rock feel. The standout for me is Knights of Cydonia which adds galloping horses and Dick Dale style surf guitar to the mix. Excellent fun all round. Sagittarius A*-tastic!

I've discovered Muse with their first two records as a teenager, and these partly opened me to new things -- it was the most "indie", non-metal thing I listened to at this time. When this album was released I already lost interest in Muse, they lost their indie/fragile side and became a hit machine. It was nonetheless the last album from them I really listened to. And years after, the verdict is that it is still a pretty solid album, full of epic hits, and designed for stadiums. It's too much, but it's kind of its signature. The production work on this is really impressive, I feel like it's at the crossroads between rock, electronic music, with some indie touches here and there. Definitely post-modern. Definitely entertaining.

I think this is a great album, Muse is one of my favorite 2000's era bands. Not every track is great, but the album is driving start to finish, interesting mixes, and I do like the vocals.

Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole are bangers and give this an extra bonus star

Absolutely loved this album growing up. One of the first I had on CD and one of the albums that got me in to music. Listening to it now, I can appreciate the influences of Radiohead and how Muse made their own sound off of it. Starlight, Invincible, and Knights of Cydonia are bangers with great mixes of guitars and synths, and there isn't a better playing-baseball-in-a-thunderstorm song than Supermassive Black Hole

Forgotten why I hated them so much

81% Best: Starlight; Supermassive Black Hole; Assassin; City of Delusion; Knights of Cydonia Must-Hear? Almost

I can't believe this is only my third album from 2006. The only other albums I've gotten until now from my birth year were Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics and Ghostface Killah's Fishscale. I liked those albums well enough, but Black Holes and Revelations by Muse is definitely my new favorite from the year. This album's awesome. The sound is just so cool. The space rock vibes are just incredible. There's some heavy moments in here that just wowed me upon listening to them. Matt Bellamy's vocals are pretty solid, as is his writing. Songs like "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia" really stand out as being awesome. I wouldn't call the album perfect or even a masterpiece. This is definitely one of those albums where it appeals to me specifically as opposed to being an objectively amazing album. I wouldn't quite go all the way with a 5, but I would definitely give this album a very high 4/5.

Amazing guitar work and vocals lyrics hit the mis and I'm not massive on the feeling good cover 8.7

Take out the synthesizer in any Muse song and you’d get what Radiohead would have sounded like if they didn’t go artsy. Muse is one of those bands that a person would never hate but just not go out of their way to listen to an album. For me, I know it’ll be good and I’ll enjoy an album but I just haven’t taken the plunge until now. This album if full of energy. So far, you could start a run on song one and not have to slow down until much later. Muse feels like a band that is there to cheer you on in any sort of competitive thing you may be taking part in. They are a soundtrack for accomplishing anything. Big or small. I could be wrong though. Maybe they hate humans.

This is the album that some folks proclaimed they "stopped sounding like Radiohead and came into their own". While I feel they managed to make their best one at that time,I thought the Radiohead comparisons weren't entirely fair. They were also better song craftsmen. I think Thom York can be overrated.

Good one. Different but I like it. Added.

Broadly, I don't listen to Muse enough. When I randomly select this album, or when prompted by things like 1001..., I think "Yeah. I should listen to this guitar-driven nutter more often." But ... then I just forget about them. It's a good, no great album, but it's rather OTT and riff-tastic for regular consumption.

Fantastic. One of the best on the list so far

Excellent guitar and composition, but I absolutely cannot stand the singing. Knights of Cydonia definitely still goes hard as fuck though.

Muse is my muse, absolution is sick but unfortunately we don’t get a lot of good albums on this list apparently

Reminded me of radiohead's sound

Great sound and vibe.

One of the better muse albums. Knights of Cydonia just about lifts it to a 4.

Great album, some lovely fifa songs on there too

yeah i love muse, and this album has so many electric bangers on it. it sounds like a late night on the internet as a kid, the instrumentation in a lot of these tracks (along with muse's overall sound in general from that era on other albums too) sounds like background music from mid-late 2000s youtube compilations made with windows media player and i mean that in the best way possible. it's vaguely spooky and also comforting. also starlight has consistently been one of my favourite songs for years and nothings changing anytime soon

Pretty great performances all around. Some nice rock out parts. Cool bass tone.

This album grabbed me right away. Very entertaining. The end wasn't as strong as the beginning.

it is Radiohead for theater kids…still enjoyed it

wide ranging sort of prog sound with an enjoyable almost cinematic sound to it.

really liked the second half of the album, reminds me a little of radiohead. favorite songs: starlight, city of delusion, supermassive black hole

This really isn’t a four it’s a 3.5 but this is a joyful reaction to the crap that preceded it.

Quite epic, in its way

De ja voo. Reminded me of guitar hero days

Knights of Cydonia one of the all time guitar hero songs. Had listened to most of the songs before but good album.

not my fav muse album, but has some fantastic songs on there.

Fun album. Nostalgia is a good drug, didn't blow me out of my socks though.

Great music, great texts.

Svo skrýtið með Muse, yfirdrifin melódísk dramatík, töff sánd og ágætur söngur, og einhvern veginn náðu þeir að fylla tómarúmið sem Radiohead skildi eftir sig um aldamótin. Ég hef samt aldrei beinlínis sagst fíla þá, en við þessa endurteknu hlustanir spyr ég mig, hvers vegna í ósköpunum ekki?

It seems everything I enjoyed about this album tends to be the reasons people don’t like it. Which I can understand partly. I do really like the influence of Radiohead, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many other alternative rock bands so obviously seen on this record. For some reason that’s a bad thing? I get that it’s not super original, but you have to give it credit for the grandiose, electrifying sound this record brought. Maybe at the time the genre was a bit over saturated and people were tired of listening to “what if Radiohead did grunge?” but I think it still holds up. Today, in this moment, this record remains a staple of the genre and has persisted to be a must-listen to album. In that respect, and because of the strong alternative rock feel I’ve been missing, this album gets a 4. The “critics” can go listen to some indie band that “I swear is actually original.”

The best Radiohead tribute band. 3.5/5.

The type of album that either gets you or it doesn't. The thing with a dramatic opera epic like this is that if you aren't sucked in, it's hard to take it seriously. Perhaps because the aesthetic is too synthetic and the instrumentation is so squeeky clean. It doesn't have any of the rust or jingle that radiohead has. You're very aware that you aren't listening to radiohead when you listen to this. When you shoot for the moon, even if you miss it, you might still make something very good. I would say this falls into that category. This has the pop sensibilities and accessibility that radiohead did not, and as someone who isn't a big lyrics guy, I personally have no issue if the lyricism is subpar, I wasn't paying attention. This feels distinctly early 2000s, it reminded me of some bands I like such as Circa Survive or even Panic! at the Disco, or IDKHOW. I personally like a robotic progressive score and I think this hit the nail on the head. It feels worth its runtime and I think it succeeds at making emotional music that doesn't bury itself in so much abstraction. Solid project.

I think Muse were/are truly the last good pop-rock band. They songs are better than the usual diatonic chord progression stuff that most bands put out and they keep the instrumentation and singing complicated enough to be more than just background noise. That isn't to say they aren't also a bad pop band too - songs like "Starlight" and "Supermassive Black Hole" could be Coldplay songs, and I don't mean that in a complimentary way. I've always liked that Muse writes their heavier songs in some sort of double/triple time throughout the 4/4 with either the drums or bass hitting 16th or triplet note runs throughout verses and chorus sections. "Knights of Cydonia" is of course the biggest example with that killer bass run that, while "basic" musically, is really great to listen to. "Map of the Problematique" does it with the drums and bass and "Take a Bow" does it with keys. It's fun, I know it's cliche but I really do like it. Songs like "Soldiers Poem" and "Hoodoo" are their much older song "Unintended" just written again, in my opinion. It's not necessarily a bad thing but I'm not too fond of them knowing that the band is capable of better and more engaging songs. Ultimately outside of the heavy hitting tracks which are great, this album is so so; it's about half the album. I want a full album of songs like Knights of Cydonia, Invincible, Glorious, and Assassin. This has always been the issue I've had with Muse - they are so close to being a really fantastic band but they keep cranking out these (popular for sure) songs that sound like if Radiohead were married to a house song and three instruments. It's hard to blame them when that's what sells, I guess. The heavier stuff carries it's own sound (you could argue it's derivative, and probably be right) and I do enjoy it.

Are Muse the kind of band that really need to be represented on this list? Not really. But, if you're going to put any Muse album on the list, then this is absolutely the one. Easily their best in my opinion, real shame how hard they fell off after this album.

this was sick, punchy and great production, really enjoyed it and songs weren’t too long

While some of this sounded like 2000s era rock that I don't like (Radiohead, Maroon 5, Coldplay), it really has some epic sounding stuff that blows that crap away, especially towards the end. I really liked City of Delusion, but Knights of Cydonia is the big standout to me and pushes the whole thing up to a 4/5. Will listen again.

Movie soundtrack

This was fun all the way through.

Not bad, surprisingly easy to listen to

I have this one. It's not my favourite of their albums, but still very good. I feel it's actually let down a bit by some of the hits... Supermassive Blackhole has this dirtiness, especially when Matt really gasps out the title. I know Knights of Cydonia is super epic and popular, but I'm always let down by the vocals in the second half of the song. The melody is too simple, in my opinion. My favourites are Starlight, Soldier's Poem and Invincible.

Bien, pesado, parece como si pintaran con colores primarios, Starlight es muy buena

so good mom used to listen to supermassive black hole

If My Chemical Romance and Radio Head had a baby. 8/10

This is probably as close to a '5' but not quite album I've had so far. The music is very technical, draws you in, and just great. Very skilled musicians making great songs. The whole album has good flow and each song can stand on its own. The downsides are that I find the lyrics a little lame at times and the voice of Matt just doesn't quite connect. Overall, I think it is an album I will come me back to and can find myself liking more over time. Made me like Muse a lot more than previous.

La prima volta che lo sentii pensai che questo fosse il rock degli alieni. Passionale e intenso, potente, libero e totalmente svincolato dalle logiche che pervadevano il mercato discografico di quegli anni. Da sentire e risentire.

I remember going to see them on this tour when this came out, Great album

Imagine Dragons if they made good music

I don’t think it’s great, but I dig it. Possibly in spite of myself.

Another college favorite - I got to see them live, and they were fantastic. Knights of Cydonia in particular was pretty epic, blew the recorded version out of the water. This album has stood the test of time, it was nice to listen to it again.

I loved it when it was released. Hadn’t heard in a few years. Nice surprise today. I liked it a lot again.

Man, this album hits pretty hard. It seemed like "Uprising" was on the radio all the time a while back. I'm glad to hear they are more than that song (which I hate). Some people compare the band to Radiohead, which I do not see that much of a comparison, actually. Maybe a little with "OK Computer," but if they were really a Radiohead ripoff all of their songs would sound like it. Really enjoyed it. Top tracks: "Starlight," "Supermassive Black Hole," "Hoodoo", "Knights Of Cydonia," "Assassin"

I liked this album, but it gave me a lot of "this sounds like something else" vibes. I heard echoes of Radiohead (singing in Take a Bow and Soldier's Poem) and Elbow (at 3:15 of Take a Bow). Starlight absolutely sounds like The Killers. Hoodoo gave off Queen vibes, even if it didn't exactly sound like Queen. The opening arpeggios in Soldier's Poem made me think of Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. Sure, it changed away from that quickly, but there were a lot of points where I said "they sound like X." But the vibe that hit me a lot was Imagine Dragons. Sure, I know Imagine Dragons came later (and say they were influenced by Muse), but I was having a hard time putting my finger on why they made me think of them. My teenage daughter helped me figure it out - she agreed that they have an Imagine Dragons vibe and then said, "they're both rock music for people who don't like rock." I don't know if that's entirely fair, but I laughed. She went on to firmly state that Muse is much better than Imagine Dragons, but I still got a kick out of that explanation. Anyway, I enjoyed the music despite the nagging feeling that they often sounded like someone else. Lots of really cool moments. I'd listen again, and I do like rock, thank you very much. Favorite tracks: Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Invincible, Assassin, Exo-Politics.

This is a 4.5 stars for me. Almost 5. I love this album. Starlight, spermassive, assassin, knights of cydonia are my favorites. Reminds me a childhood. Would love to have seen these guys live in their prime.

This is an album that I have always wanted to listen to because I already knew a few of the songs on it, glad it came up on this list. Something about Muse's sound just does good things for me. The combo of heavy rock, electronic, and fuzziness that they put in just works. I also really like the variety on this album between all of the songs and how it seemed to get heavier and heavier as the album went on. Knights of Cydonia has been on repeat for me recently, wouldn't be surprised if it was my top song on Spotify wrapped this year. Such a baller song with the buildup of the guitar and horns, then just the drop with the heavy heavy guitar riff. Gives me the chills every time. Starlight is also a great song that I will never skip. This album lived up to my expectations. Definitely a pretty high 4

I have a super soft spot for Muse so this might be a little biased. I saw them on this tour (opening for My Chemical Romance lol) and this shit fucked. It has the bangers along with some random jams in there as well. Knights of Cydonia is such a jam and also a great song to ski to. High af 4 but some songs just fall flat to push it over the edge for me. Would've been an easy 5 for me in high school.

A great Muse record, with tracks taking cues from different genres. This was before Muse went completely downhill and became absolutely ubearable. There are a few traces of that here already but the true jumping the shark moment was still a couple of albums away. Key tracks: Take a Bow Starlight Map of the Problematique Supermassive Black Hole Invincible Knights of Cydonia

Interesting album, it went to so many different types of genres. Will likely listen again/check out their other stuff

pretty good 4/5

I didnt have as high hopes going into this one as the last one, but i went in with no preconceived opinion and came out very pleasantly surprised. The fusion of rock and synths create a vibe that i really havent heard in an album ever. I’m a sucker for beautiful electric guitar, and this doesnt disappoint in that department. Supermassive black hole is a w song def going on the playlist. I dont listen to rock as much as other genres so i’m not really the target demographic for this type music, but even i really enjoyed it so i can see how this made the book. 8/10 for me

I liked it!

muy theatrical, parece el ost de algún spaghetti western o space opera rockero muy excentrico, ademas tiene varios bangers. el mejor de muse

Me gustó bastante, lo siento muse siempre pensé que eras aburrido

It's an easy 4 with a couple bangers and lots of strong tracks.

Enjoyed this much more than expected. Full of bangers.

Muse is a band I’ve been aware of, but have only dabbled in lightly. I just figured for the longest time that they weren’t really my thing. But I’ll admit they have some interesting songs. I still think Butterflies and Hurricanes, Stockholm Syndrome, and Hysteria are some of the best alt-rock songs of the 2000s. I have Need for Speed to thank for that first song. The two bands you see get pegged as “Radiohead clones” the most are Muse and Coldplay. As much as I love Coldplay, their first two albums don’t exactly help them beat that label. Radiohead is a band that is known for their incredibly powerful and moving music. But it’s often more drawn back than people might think, and uses big moments as pay off. Muse, and more specifically Black Holes and Revelations, is the complete opposite of that. This is big, explosive, and in your face almost the entire way through. If Radiohead ever made anything like this, it would sound totally insane coming from them. Muse gets criticized for their overly self-indulgent and theatric sounding music. And to be honest, I’m here for it. Which was a shock to me. I figured I would walk out of this disappointed in what I heard. But when the drop came in on that first song, those thoughts were immediately put to rest. And the rest of the album is pretty consistently great from there on out. I’m still not a fan of Starlight though. It’s catchy, but that piano is so much it’s almost nauseating. The issue I have with a couple of these tracks is that, while the build up is cool, they always save the best for the end. So really I only enjoy 1/4th of those songs. But when they get it right, it fucking hits. There is some seriously strong musicianship at play here. Especially when it comes to their drummer. Matt also seems to get a lot of crap for his singing. I’m not really sure why, because the man can sing. Those harmonies on the chorus in Knights of Cydonia are insane. I think it’s just that same Thom Yorke comparison that makes people not like him. I love when an album surprises me like this. When I hear stuff like this, and The Mars Volta, I can only think that progressive rock was in good hands in the 2000s. Rating: 8/10

muse used to make good music

Überraschend gut. Ich habe andere Muse-Alben schlechter in Erinnerung. Könnte ich mir fast noch mal anhören.

Not an everyday listen, but this is a solid play-thru album. Many strong tracks with my favs being “Invincible”, “ Assassin”, and “Knights of Cydonia”. Rounding up to a 4 just because if I was going to reach for this ( most likely on a road trip) it would be for a full spin front to back vs selected tracks. 3.5
