Reviews (page 4 of 13)
Peak Muse. Not a bad song on the album. Maybe it's nostalgia but this is a really good album. Probably a 4.5
Amazing
Here is something better than the pube comment.. this music can be best defined of pop because its not and it made its way into there by hardship..
Already know and love
Already familiar with this one, one of my favourites even if the lyrics are corny as heck.
Knights of the cedonia довольно кайфовая!
All time favorite album
Very good album!!!
Page reloaded and lost my progress, but who needs notes? 5 star album, with a couple 4's.
Over produced and hyper polished...every song seems bigger than the last... And I still love it almost 20 years later.
Great
Beautiful. No weak points.
I loved this album. I need to listen to more muse. There was a good variety of music. I feel like lots of the previous albums have all kinds sounded the same, so this was a welcome change of pace
9/10 Energetic, rich, urgent Highlights: Knights of Cydonia Map of the Problematique Hoodoo Starlight
One of my favourite albums, by my all time favourite band. Was always going to be full marks, but listening again (and again, and again) confirmed it. Riffs, melody, vocals and epic drumming - flawless
I guess this is what a five looks like! Knew I liked Muse. Didn’t realize how many of their good songs were on this album.
Star ratings suck.
Muse rocks hard. So I many bangers and they go hard.
Muse has secretly been one of my favorite bands since I first heard "Muscle Museum" in high school in my quest to find bands with good bass lines. This album was a continuation of the group's evolution away from a Radiohead clone, leaning heavily into political and dystopian themes and experimenting with more prog rock, post punk, and new wave influences. To me, it doesn't touch "Absolution," but few albums do. Exceptionally solid from start to finish.
So many bangers. Knights of Cydonia remains one of the best alt songs of the 2000s. New songs I also liked: Maps of the Problematique, Exo-Politics, Glorious.
🤘🏼🤘🏼
I forgot how much I like the few Muse songs I've heard, I've never listened to a full album, but it holds up. And Muse is still making music now in 2023, I gotta catch up on all the music
Muse has always been a strange one to me. It's a band I've grown up with, always hearing a lot of it on the radio, Black Holes and Revalations in particular, but I've never considered myself that much of a fan of the band as a whole. I've not really disliked anything I've heard, I just never really got into them. However, this was a good listen. It's my first time listening to the album cover-to-cover, and it's just fun. It's like a space-age rock opera. It feels a bit ridiculous and artificial, and I think I almost have a "guilty pleasure" sort of attraction to this. But either way I enjoyed this. It's rocky enough, and has a nice amount of electronic elements to appeal to my basshead brain. It's the musical equivalent of a dumb and cheesy sci-fi TV series that you just can't get enough of. It might not be my favourite album by any means but I think I'll come back to it. Favourite: Knights of Cydonia
Really surprised me how much I enjoyed this album. Good listen.
Loooove this album.
Fab
I really liked this one.
Found gems:) Also imediatley realized Supermassive black hole was used as a soundtrack in Twilight. Loved Assassin and City of delusion.
Dramatic, singable, catchy
Yes, it’s prog rock for the Radiohead generation, but that’s my generation, baby. Bombastic and over the top but amazing hooks in here, and knights of cydonia is one of the all time great songs
Classic Muse album
Really good rock album. Great melodies.
Downloaded. Felt like I was losing it through most of this album because I couldn’t tell if I recognised these songs or they just reminded me of something that I couldn’t put a finger on. Confirmed afterwards that I did most likely listen to it as a kid. Really really really liked it, probably largely down to actively listening to try and see what I recognised about it. Favourite song probably Supermassive Black Hole… or Soldier’s Poem … or Knights of Cydonia …..
One of the most gloriously OTT albums ever released. Knights of Cydonia is magnificently ridiculous, yet the song itself pales in comparison with that absurdly stupid video. This may bit be their best album but it is certainly my favourite
Take a Bow: cool chord progression, fast arpeggiated synths sounds futuristic with big power chords on the guitar; Starlight: poppy happy synth melody, but gets grungier and angrier before quietly sings the album title in the lyrics; Supermassive Black Hole: heavy sound at first, but with falsetto voice and some harmony, industrial sounds near end a la Nine Inch Nails; Soldier's Poem: slow 6-8 in the style of Elvis' Can't Help Falling In Love With You; nice chords and interesting chromatic vocal harmonies in the style of the Beatles and Queen, but a dark story; Invincible: starts with slow military marching drum with sad organ playing a pretty chord progression, but builds up with a synth sounding like a theramin, sounds inspired by U2 after two minutes mark, after 3:30 it gets grungier and angrier with histrionic fast arpeggiated chords on the lead guitar Assassin: best (angry) song on the album, driving, thrashing, angry, cool rhythm guitar; Exo-Politics: theramin synth again, vocal harmony; City of Delusion: very dramatic song starts with acoustic guitar quick strumming then driving bass line, then a middle eastern synth feel before turning to harder rock followed by quick synth bass line that sounds like it's under water. Acoustic guitar followed by rumpet line in spanish feel starting at 3:30. Great song to pound along with on guitar, piano, or drums; Knights of Cydonia: dramatic sound in the spaghetti western feel of Ennio Morricone's movie music, then surfer guitar with simple melody on distorted electric guitar with a bit of trumpet followed by a vocal harmony section.
This album has so many bangers on it.; Knights of Cydonia, Map of the Problematique, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole... actually, pretty much all of them. Great album! 5/5 for me
So many killer songs on this, even the deep cuts.
In my opinion not the best album from the muse, but still a great one
You’re dead inside if this doesn’t get you dancing.
beauty
This album barely makes the 5 star criteria with five good songs. Take a bow, Starlight, Invincible, Knights of Cydonia, map of the problematic. Muse certainly has a sound and it is really well produced in this album. A lot of shit on this album though....wish they had more material from this era.
this is a good album
MANY BANGERS
This album absolutely fucking rules. All the tracks slap, all the instrumentals are on point, the lyrics are poignant and interesting. How can you not love this? Favorite track: Map of the Problematique
After looking at the other reviews it seems like it is not cool to like Muse, but I think this is very strong album. Love the vocals and the spacey feel of it all. It’s got a lot of songs on here that really hit in the right spots.
Awesome. Best songs are Starlight and Supermassive blackhole
Always enjoy Muse.
Fantastisk platta.
Great album, haven't listened to Muse for a long time so this was a nice hit of nostalgia!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this album. Takes me back to my college days. It still hits hard all these years later. Wore a hole in my copy I played it so much.
I figured I'd like this album since I like a decent amount of songs on it, and I liked basically everything. I probably like Showbiz more than this one, given that it's the only other Muse album I've listened to all the way, but this one is still pretty good. It's a five from me. My favourite songs were Glorious and City of Delusion.
Mioddio Knights of Cidonia
This was very enjoyable. Lots of variations in style and it sounded really good. This is one I might buy in physical form.
This was pretty popular with the set I fell into my first year living in Japan, so it's benefitting from a massive nostalgia bump, although, I dunno, maybe I'd still be into it on its own merits. I don't think I like any of their other albums as much - should probably give "Origin of Symmetry" another spin. It's melodramatic and pompous and urgent - a pretty fun listen! Fave tracks - "Take a Bow" and "Starlight" are a great opening sequence. I also like "Map Of The Problematique" and "Knights of Cydonia"
One of my favourite all time albums. Saw Mise live many years ago and it was incredible.
Best Muse album I've heard fully. The lyrics are a bit ridiculous for the most part but the music still holds up.
Edelleen eeppinen. Ei täyden femman albumi, mut ylöspäin pyöristyy, joten…
When the Zetas fill the skies??? Z? Is it a prediction?
Just coz Paul will score it 1
I know and absolutely love this album, I was introduced to this band and album in middle school and songs like supermassive black hole, knights of cydonia and exo politics will always find a way into my reagular listening routine. This has high energy. Lots creativity and diversity but also you can tell that these song are by muse. The words fits super well behind the music and it great listening in most scenarios. Muse will probably forever be one of my top ten favorite bands 5 stars
Some of the best 2000s alternative, and I was missing out on it. Muse have everything in this album: musicians that learned from the decades of existing rock music and put their own spin on the style, space themes, dark but not emo lyrics, vocals that actually complement the melody (looking at you, Radiohead), and just plenty of bops.
Heavy guitars combined with some electronic sound. Poetic lyrics Some influence from 80's and 70's rock
An easy 5 stars obviously!
Go on then, have 5 stars, I’m feeling generous
Fantastic stuff but knew this already, origins I think is better but this is still a belter
When I was in Brazil, Christian sent me clips from this new band Muse and their song "Time Is Running Out" from their previous album, Absolution, and I loved it. Now, my 2005-2007 culture knowledge is extremely thin, so anything at that time sounded great. Muse's album Black Hole and Revelations came out a few months before I returned, and I listened to it nonstop once at home. I saw Muse live in 2008 at UVSC in Orem. Three mega-hits on this album: Starlight (one of my fave songs of all time), Knights of Cydonia and Supermassive Black Hole. Upon listening to it this time around, I forgot how much I enjoyed the song Invincible. Matt Bellamy's shredding and vocal range are incredible!
2006 Mercury Prize nominee. EXCELLENT. Great, socially conscious lyrics. According to Wikipedia, it is a concept album about war (therefore, 'Soldier's Poem', march tempo on 'Invincible'. etc.). The vocals remind me of 'Burn the Witch' by Radiohead. Tracks two and three are famous; I had obviously heard them before. Good violins on first track. Lovely, smooth transition from hard rock on 'Map of the Problematique' to soft classical pop on 'Soldier's Poem'. Definite 5/5. FAR, FAR better than 'Drones'. 'Soldier's Poem' and first part of 'Invincible' are much softer than songs before. I thought perhaps the album was in two halves, but the second part of 'Invincible' is as hard as the start. Personally speaking, 'Assassin' does not sound as good as the songs before it. I think it's too influenced by industrial rock and metal for my tastes. Does 'City of Delusion' have influences from Bollywood music (in a recurring motif on the song)? It certainly has excellent sweeping strings, and fantastic trumpet-playing. I prefer the classical pop songs (e.g. 'Soldier's Poem' and 'Hoodoo') over the industrial/heavy metal songs. Good production on the vocals in 'Hoodoo'. Nice recurring melodic and rhythmic motif of the drums (bongos?) in 'Hoodoo'. 'Glorious' in NOT on the physical CD (only standard Spotify edition and Japanese CD); thus, do NOT listen to it. Evident electronic influence from first to last song. 'Knights of Cydonia' is amazing. 10/10, or maybe 9/10 -- but a definite 5/5.
I listened to this 100 times the year it came out. Still holds up for me. It's dramatic and theatric music without being over the top. Muse all the way.
Just a great album and the first songs, Take a Bow > Starlight > Supermassive Black Hole > Map of the Problematique are just amazing then later on Knights of Cydonia, all great tracks.
Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Map of the problematique, Take a bow, Invincible, Exo-politics, Starlight, Supermassive black hole, Knights of cydonia
Another Album I've listened to on repeat. Easy Five Stars.
I've heard muse before, but hearing an album by them is just incredible
I've never really listened to Muse but I've known about them for such a long time. I really enjoyed this album yet at the same at it has this sheen to it that sounds overly produced. It's not bad, but I can't help shake this feeling it sounds a little too slick and polished. Still the guitar work is really great and those solos are great.
This album rocks. Exciting front to back. Mostly flowy alt rock but brings in ethereal elements and clean distortion that brings an extraterrestrial feel. Standouts are "Knights of Cydonia" "Assassin" and "Map of the Problematique"
I own it and listen to it loads love it!
Muse was my favorite band some years ago, and then I suddenly changed to listening to other stuff. I'm back to this album again. I think it's longer than it should be, but it's still a precious release. I don't know exactly how, but these songs leave me in another state. Nostalgia perhaps? Maybe, but it's still worth it a lot.
I loved this album. Muse is great!
Absolute fucking bangers front to back
Top
it was good
Superb album. Muse have a certain sound to them, very distinct and this was when it all came together. Stylised sounds and subject matter that turns a lot of people off but well like by others. Driving rock anthems although it seems they have fallen prey to the 'not trendy to like Muse' brigade. These are the same people that used to like them but have now convinced themselves they should wear flat caps and sunglasses and listen to cult performers no-one else has heard of.
Muse is cool as hell. Got to get more into this band for sure.
Black Holes and Revelations is the 4th Muse studio album. It was released on 3 July 2006 and described as featuring progressive rock and space rock. Like their previous albums, it features political and dystopian undertones, with lyrics covering topics such as political corruption, alien invasion, revolution and New World Order conspiracies, as well as more conventional love songs. Have listened a few songs in my teenage years. Didn't enjoyed then. But enjoyed the full album now (14/02/2023).
So glorious 😱
jahas innoissani menen katsomaan arvosteluja suosikki bändin albumista.. hyvä albumi, yhtä hyvä mitä muistin aikoinaan.. huoh.. mitä näkyy e.. HAISA VITTU1111 MIKS KAIKKI VIHAAA.... OLEN POIKA!!!!!!EN OLE V*RJÄNNYT HIUSKIA!!!! map of the problematique
One thing you can't be after listening to a Muse album is not pumped, I may have to see the fuse box because I've just been amped. Muse take you through all the feelings as you go from soft and delicate to hard drums that make your legs hurt from trying to copy the drum fills, they venture from classical to latin horns to a synth Queen rock hybrid baby's that make you phase out of time and space and drift back down for more. Will always come back for more. Favourite tracks Starlight, Assassin, Knights of Cydonia.
It's really hard to argue against this one. It's just a masterful album. The production is out of this world, of course. But the songwriting and performances are also stellar. Does every track slap? No. But the ones that do? They bang hard enough to more than cover the few that don't. Just a great album.
Forgot this is a great album
Muse is a band I was only vaguely familiar with and for some reason just assumed I didn’t like. But fuck this thing rocks so hard. It owns bones.
Excellent
One of my favourite albums of my youth! Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole sounded absolutely incredible live. Always loved the bass tones of this band. Phat.
Listened to this album a lot through high school. Still a hit today for me! Starlight is my favorite song by a lot. Hearing Assassin again was a nice surprise, forgot about that song
An epic rock smashed operatic intensive experience.
Knights of Cydonia. Magnificent. Rest of it’s not bad either.
Probably my favourite Muse album. It's just the perfection of what makes Muse. The singing, the lyrics, the instruments, the sounds used. A leap over the already great absolution. Like any album that has 'Knights of Cydonia' can not be lower than an 8/10. 9 to potentially a perfect 10/10
Great album
I think this is probably the last great Muse album for me. From here they did some good songs still, but the band as it exists now is so far removed from the one I was really into. This album though is solid front to back. I really, really like the fact that they're unafraid of going as big as possible. Massive sounds, big riffs, interesting instrumentation and lots of fist pumping stadium bangers, highlighted best with the ridiculously epic Knights of Cydonia.
Great album.
Ei tarvitse sanoa mitään
Haven't grown out of it yet! Love the synths, loves the ridiculousness. Still regret not seeing them around the time of this album - I was on a run near Wembley Stadium around the time of this album and heard their soundcheck for the concert to support this album. Sounded amazing.
Great album! I spent a lot of time listening to and playing all the riffs on "Knights of Cydonia". It is such a great song and a perfect encapsulation of the whole album. Leading bass guitar, very upbeat drums, plenty of electronics, weird solos on guitar and a constant (and sometimes a bit annoying) vocal by Matt Bellamy. Every song on this album sticks to that concept, whether slower or faster, more melancholic or less, they have a recipe that works. It is not my favourite album by Muse, I find "Origin of Symmetry" a bit better and more diverse than Black Holes and Revelations, but still, it is a great album and I 100% recommend it to everyone.
The electronic distortion and singing voice is not for everyone and I myself am still not 100% convinced by it, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a great rock album with couple of bangers that rock hard! 🤘🏻
Loved it. The artestry and pagentry and drama.
The last great muse album.
one of the greatest
Another fantastic surprise, but I have loved Muse before
Awesome. Loved this since I was a teenager and it's been a while since I've listened to this. So a nostalgic ride. Plenty of great tracks on here and Knights of Cydonia is one badass album closer.
I understand why this album is on this list. Not one song was a sleeper. It seem like the album continue to pick up pace song by song. They reminded me of Queens of the Stone Age lead vocals, and of course queen harmonies. I heard a lot of 70s influence in this including Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. I want to sit down with this again read the words and read some liner notes.
This is the final great Muse album. What a fun ride. Aside from a small lull in the middle with Soldier’s Poem, every song on this album is unique, hard hitting, and well written. Every instrument pulls its weight. Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, and Knights of Cydonia are my favorites on this album.
This is mainly for nostalgia because i love this album. Great songs
I love Muse. Love this album. Amazing band! Wish to be on their concert soon.
What an album. The drama, the performances, the innovation, the ability... Early 2000s muse were a force
Almost perfect, very exciting, not 1 song sounds the same
One of the best albums of them, every song on it is a banger
21/08/2022 Muse – Black Holes and Revelations 5/5 Muse is one of my favourite bands, at least their early period including The Resistance. It is one of those that you need to go to one of their concerts before you die just because how incredible the experience would be. Matt Bellamy’s voice is also, in my opinion, one of the best male voices of all the time, and I love his vocal range and use of falsetto in songs like Supermassive Black Hole or Micro Cuts (of Origin of Symmetry). Black Holes and Revelations is, maybe nor their best, but their most regular album, with great singles like Supermassive Black Hole or Knights of Cydonia; and incredible not so well-known songs like Take a Bow. I think I’m biased and probably my review won’t be objective, but I can’t leave aside how much I like them. Take a Bow – 5/5 I think this is the hidden gem of the album (and we are just at the beginning). Take a Bow is a great crescendo song that is perfect for introducing the listeners to the sounds and feelings of the album. Probably my second favourite song of the album, the initial synth arpeggio, the transition, and the rocking end are fantastic. All of that ornated with the fantastic Matt Bellamy voice. Starlight – 4/5 One of the weak legs of the album, not because the song is not great, but because it clashes a bit against the album and maybe even Muse’s previous sound. Apart from that, it is a fantastic pop song with a touch of rock. Supermassive Black Hole – 5/5 If I remember correctly, this is the song that introduced me to Muse (maybe from one of early 2000's FIFA’s games?). Again, maybe a little bit more pop-rock that usual, but the right amount to not become too different. Again, absolutely great falsetto vocals, and the core of the song. Map of the Problematique – 4.5/5 Another great song, but this one needs a little bit more to be perfect for me. Maybe it needs a bit of uniqueness compared to what we have listened previously in the album. Love the guitar riff and piano that the song is built around. Soldier’s Poem – 4/5 Another weak leg of the album. It is the type of ballad Muse normally composes and it should have needed to stand out from the rest to be better. Invincible – 4.5/5 Another slow song, but this one has the things to make itself unique. The marching band drums and the build up to the guitar solo and the end of the song are great. It is also a very good middle point to the album and transition to the “B-side”. Assassin – 5/5 Turning towards the more “heavy-rock” sound of the band, it is quite powerful and successful in what it tries to achieve. Exo-Politics – 4/5 A bit generic and flat-sounding, but not bad. Very recognizable Muse sound. City of Delusion – 4.5/5 Great at creating a very exotic atmosphere (“Wild-west” with the guitar riff and trumpet, more “oriental-inspired” with its strings). Good and different rock song. Hoodoo – 5/5 Following the lead of City of Delusion, this track starts as a ballad that continues the atmosphere of the last song, but evolves into a more dramatic and grandiloquent sound, very similar to Space Dementia of Origin of Symmetry. That makes it very interesting. Knights of Cydonia – 5/5 My favourite Muse song, and the strongest of the album. What a 6-minute masterpiece. It is great developing a story, not only in the little lyrics it has (and the context behind them), but also through the evolution of its sound as it progresses. It is also great at gathering energy thorough until it all explodes at the end. Glorious – 4.5/5 I am one of those who believes that Knights of Cydonia could have been the best closure song to this album, ending it with a great clash of energy. This song is not bad at all, nonetheless. Another space-rock inspired track that follows Muse most knowledgeable structure and sound.
While Radiohead is still my male manipulator music of choice, this is a good entry into that genre. I still love supermassive black hole and knights of cydonia but the rest of the album also goes hard, especially the first two songs. Overall, right up my alley and it’s getting an objective 4 but subjective 5
I forgot how good this album was, really wish Muse could get back to this level one day. I have some minor issues with the 2nd half of the album, but the highs more than make up for it. Love the layers of guitar and synth that build up such a big sound.
Gorgeous futuristic and nice lyrics
Hell yes! So many hits and hard hitting album cuts like Assassin. Probably my favorite album of a band I really love. Knights of Cydonia is an all-timer! One of my favorite running songs ever...
This album was fantastically epic. Perfect soundtrack to the world ending. Knights of Cydonia bangs.
nice muse
Love this album. The synth/electronic/rock works really well in my opinion. Also really enjoy the heavy basslines throughout the album. "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia" were my favourite tracks.
i love muse, and i knew the headliners of this album starlight, supermassive blackhole and knights of cydonia but the other songs are also great, special mention of map of the problematique. Only critique is that since hearing the live version of knights i cannot hear that one anymore without the once upon a time in the west intro
Extraordinary album, from Take a bow to Glorious. I got to know Muse for The Resistance. Nowadays, I dont which one is my favourite. The artistic concepts generated by Bellamy's band are perfectly executed in this album.
Muse is a great band, and their conspiracy theory vibes are bit harder to stand in this day and age, but this album is absolutely fantastic. Knights of Cydonia is an all-time great tune. Starlight, Map of the Problematique, Assassin, and Supermassive Black Hole are all top tier songs.
Bro fuck my girl for not showing me this whole album. I played guitar hero and was like what is this pretentious shit w cydonia but damn this some flame. Perfect w some aot
Great album which started my love for Muse. 5
superb
A great albums. I’ve never heard any of their music until now. Really enjoyed it
Fantasticly done
What are these sounds and why do I like them so much?! It’s space age and grungey at the same time and beautiful something emerges from the chaos. Very engaging start to finish
Una maravilla
Fantastic album! Chalk full of hits, the B-sides are great.
I was a bit taken by surprise by this one. Singing "You will burn in hell" to a Philip-Glass-sounding synthesizer caused me to short circuit. The more I listened, the more I got it. It's pretty operatic. I love all the amazing sounds on this album. I also realized that I bought Muse's song "Uprising" some years ago and have always been a fan of it without really hearing that those lyrics are also pretty over-the-top.
Great
Some pretty beautiful classically inspired parts on here but they still rock out. They pull from several genres and lean heavily into "nu-metal" territory with Rage Against The Machine sounding riffs and runs. Really a cool mix throughout the entire album. I really don't like the newest Muse records, though, so I have to separate that in my mind when I go back and listen to the good ones.
8/10 similar qualities to radiohead but more rock?
"Knights of Cydonia" is my favorite, but this is a very good album.
Everyone calling this a Radiohead/Queen hybrid in these reviews is more correct than I would have thought possible
An exercise in rock n roll maximalism and frankly it works quite well.
Not as good as Origin of Symmetry in my op but still some great tracks.
favs: supermassive black hole
160420 4
Despite being poser, shit talkers - this is a good album.
Everyone knows Knights of Cydonia, but the whole damn album hits.
I just so happened to listen to this album for the first time a few weeks ago but wasn't too blown away. Giving it a second listen now though, I'm really impressed with how many different directions it goes in while still having that iconic early 2000s rock sound. Really enjoy Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia, and Map of the Problematique is a personal favorite. Unfortunately the album starts to get a bit stale after Assassin and doesn't really pick up again until Knights, which is why I can't give this a 5.
Great album.
This was surprisingly good
Bombastic fantastic. Yes, it is ludicrously over the top at times but it works for the most part. And they do put on a great show. Also it’s fun to bawl along to which cannot be underestimated
Every song had different vibe and felt like there weren’t any concept to tie all these songs with. It was an emotional roller coaster overall but smoothly paced.
Good stuff, Muse knows how to make entertaining music. A little too polished, though, doesn't quite feel like someone's passion project.
Really solid album. I think it’s propped up a bit by a couple killer songs, but overall, this is a good listen.
muse é mm bom
Knights of Cydonia is absolute Cinema
Not much to say this one. Good listen. Opened my ears to Muse.
Pretty enjoyable and seemingly different. Probably a 3.5? I already knew Knights of Cydonia (shoutout guitar hero), fun and unique listen.
wow thats a lot of styles used
I haven’t listened to this since I was in high school. Considering the commercial success of this album, it’s actually quite wierd using sounds and textures not common in pop at the time. Guitar hero era overshadows my feelings of the singles from this album, but I do really rate it.
Me gustó muchísimo.
When to listen: in someone's basement after Guitar Hero. Idk why this album is getting so much hate I found it very listen-able. Loved the intro song. Love Supermassive Black Hole despite the Twilight. And obviously Knights of Cydonia. You might think it's rock for dummies, but I'm a dummy so let me be.
Bonus point for the biggest hit being "Supermassive Black Holes"
it was alright
This is really entertaining! I like the theatricality and drama. I'm getting Radiohead and Panic! At The Disco vibes from this. I have heard plenty of Muse before and I like their sound. I think I was actually introduced to them in middle school because my band teacher was a fan of them. Of course I love Supermassive Black Hole because of the iconic baseball scene from Twilight, and I honestly think those movies have great soundtracks so that is a real compliment. Knights of Cydonia is another one I've heard before and it's so epic. I wouldn't really say there are any bad songs on the album - it's an enjoyable listen all the way through.
Overall, this is a really solid album. All of the songs were enjoyable to listen to. But, they aren't all super memorable. 8.75/10
Pretty good.
Top notch stuff from the glitzy rockers, great touch of indie in there too
4.5 I like Muse, you can definitely hear the Radiohead influence but I think they have a more unique style than people give them credit for, especially on this album
An amazing space rock album that I never fully listened to until now. Obviously the singles from this are iconic and still the best songs on the album, but that by no means implies that the rest is forgettable. Outside of Soldiers poem and invincible which are kinda boring, the album doesn't let up with the amazing vocals, varied and unique instrumentals, and cool themes throughout. 4/5
Very Nice album, Muse always deliver good stuff
I already knew Supermassive Black Hole (and really liked it)! I enjoyed the rest of the Album as well.
00’s Rock ⭐️Knights of Cydonia
I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan or anything, but it's ridiculous to deny an album its deserved praise when every song is as good as this record shows. Rhythm section here does a lot of really cool accelerating/decelerating tempo stuff on many of these tracks and the melodies on the ballads and rock tracks alike stick in the ear like clockwork.
never listened before but it was really good - great production
Knights of Cydonia kicks ass. 4/5.
liked it but i was playing a horror game while listening and it got a bit scary at one point. rlly switched up the vibe
Klingt alles recht pompös Prog
Wicked
Discazo
Finally! Something I already knew! I'm more of an origin of symmetry person but there's bangers on here
Like a supercharged radio head with a pop bend. I like the social commentary as well. Wild I never really knew these guys. They are so close to my typical listening lane.
This was fun! Needed something a little darker and rocky. 7/10

It's been a year! Hard to believe I am 365 albums in, been a fun journey (mostly). This record was another good listen. Muse is a band I have never really sought out, even if what I have heard on the radio I have generally liked. This was the first time I listened to any of their albums front to back. And I have to say that this was a fun record. It wasn't the best of starts though, at least to my ear. Take a Bow just kind of dragged along for me, at least for the better part of the song. Starlight appears to be an attempt at an anthem type of song and it just didn't hit for me. After these two, though, the album picked up. Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique, Exo-Politics, City of Delusion, and Knights of Cydonia were all excellent tracks that I really liked. Even though they are a considerably different band, it felt like there were echoes of Queen in some of this. Not quite half of the album, but close. They have an interesting sound, well worth the listen. 4 stars.
I have listened to most of this album's songs in the past. very peak. starlight is my favorite one.
Supermassive Black Hole Glorious City of Delusion Knights of Cydonia Starlight Assassin Exo-Politics Map of the Problematique Hoodoo Invincible Take a Bow Soldier's Poem
I enjoy this album. Some of the sounds seem to have come from a Wii welcome screen, but the "space" rock is unique and they are easily distinguishable.
I already listen to 2-3 of these songs on a regular and seen them live. Glad I got to see this rendition of them. Their later works aren't great.
take a bow 7,5/10 starlight 7/10 supermassive black hole 8/10 map of problematique 8,5/10 soldier's poem 7/10 invincible 7,5/10 assassin 8,5/10 exo-politics 9/10 city of delusion 8,5/10 hoodoo 9/10 knights of cydonia 8/10 glorious 7,5/10 biiseis hyvä kitara ja laulu, hyvä albumi autoon kuunteluun, biisit vaikuttaa kivalta opetella kitaralla, jotkut biiseistä ei nii hyviä alus, mut lopussa paranee, kitarasolot ihan best, sopivaa vaihtelua biisien pituudessa, hyvän fiiliksen tuova albumi, hyvä solid 8/10 albumi, voisin kuunnella ehdottomasti uudestaan. lempparibiisi. hoodoo
Bon
I first got into Muse in my teens after their third album, Absolution, came out in 2003. I went back to Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry and loved both at the time. My memory is that this album, their fourth, had a mixed reception. They moved away from a rock sound and started playing around a bit more with other styles, which a lot of friends of mine didn't like if they were rock purists. Others loved it and Knights of Cydonia became a big hit. While I probably think that Origin of Symmetry is my favourite of their albums, I like a lot of songs on this one. Indeed, some of their more Genre-Fluid tracks are the ones I prefer. I think Supermassive Black Hole is probably the most interesting song on the album. Dare I say that it has elements of Prince coming through it. I also like Map of the Problematique. A bit dance/electronic but it harkens back to the industrial goth sounds of NIN, Sisters of Mercy, and such. Take a Bow is a bit too overwrought for me but I also like City of Delusion, with it's "flamenco metal" sound.
Has some of my favorite Muse songs (Knights of Cydonia, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole) and a couple of my least favorite Muse songs (Soldier's Poem and Hoodoo). The rest of it is pretty good, occasionally great. Not the best Muse album, but a solid 4*
actually good
This rocked, like rocked, way more than I remember, great fun
I saw the reveal and immediately reached out to a former roommate to relive the year that this was in heavy rotation for our shared commute. Starlight and Knights of Cydonia are both S-tier tracks, and thankfully I don’t associate Supermassive Black Hole with Twilight.
Really solid album. Not a huge Muse fan but really glad I listened to the whole thing. It was a fun listen. Love the instrumentation the singing just isn’t my vibe.
good

I've already listened to this a lot, but it's been many years since I last visited it, so it's nice to go back.
- always love me some Muse - some bangers on here - good vibe
Nice very gentle songs and occasional hard prog rock but a lot of the earlier album falls into an unpleasant pop rock or even pop punk sound. Heavily backloaded. Highlights: "Take a Bow", "Assassin", "City of Delusion", "Hoodoo", "Glorious"
I like Muse and am familiar with this album, it's in my library. But this is not Muse's best. Not by a long-shot. After the Absolution album, they got stuck in this mode of perpetually making hollow arena rock anthems.
Better than Coldplay
MUSEEEEE dit heeft wel echt bangers!!
gwn een hele goede klassieke rock album based asf
first reaction....twilight... but I never fully listened to this album...memorieesss Well okay quick disclaimer for me, I'm rating all the songs based of how I felt very subjective so to say and It's literally me first time experiencing it and sometimes songs does not hit the way it will hit later on hence the lower ranks. Why am I rambling too much, Idk let's get to it. take a bow- what an album opener??? oh I'm sat starlight- I feel like I will love this album and be mad at my younger self for not listening to it in its entirety. oooh name drop of the album, i wanted to cry???? hold you in my arms is giving early twenty pilots i mean it's probably quite opposite considering that this is muse but yea u get me supermassive black hole-i mean, my childhood over ther. I saw people commenting twilight ruined this song but in my case it made me find this cool as song soo i mean it had a undeniably good soundtrack, as I'm wandering around internet I saw people mentioning this album as not their best got me wondering how good the previous ones map of the problematique - i like it, okay its the other day and im a bit overwhelmed (not from the album but) but its actually very good. notes: started writing this on 07.05.2026 now its 08.05.2026 its actually one of my faves so far soldiers problem- im too tired to listen and think abt it okay listened to rest but am kinda out of place so no review generally i really enjoyed
Really enjoyed this. Big stadium sound
Muse really rocked on their first few albums but this one was the start of the downturn. They overdo the theme and theatrics at the loss of riffs. Still an enjoyable listen and Starlight and Supermassive Blackhole the obvious highs.
For me listening to Muse is just like listening to Queen. Both are extremely playful musically and lyrically. But both i’d rather they concentrate on the riffs and less on the theatre for my tastes. But when they get the balance right it’s absolutely banging, like on Supermassive and Knights.
As every MUSE album , it has interesting things to discover. For example, this time i enjoyed the trumpet solo and overall dynamics of City of Delusion . The best song for me stays Map of the Problematique
3.65
A bit over saturated/produced, but there’s still some great songs in here. Rating: 7/10 Favorite Song: Knights of Cydonia, super massive blackhole
Song bangers some forgettable
4.5/5
pretty good album
Goodstuf
"Finally... some good fuckin' food" - Gordon Ramsey But seriously after a 13-streak of sub-4/5 albums, its nice to get something that actually hits with me. I don't think this is my favorite Muse album (probably Absolution), but it is a good one, and their last good album before they devolved into incredibly cliche "fuck the government, we will resist" tropes. Very "old man yelling at clouds" energy on those later albums. That said, this is a good album. Songs like Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique, and Knights of Cydonia are great. I'm not very enamored with prog these days, but alt-prog like Muse, Coheed, and Mars Volta I can still get into. I will say, while it doesn't affect my score, this album can fall into spots where the songs are clearly ripping off other (better) songs. Map of the Problematique is clearly heavily inspired by Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence, and Soldier's Poem just straight lifts the guitar from Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis) for part of its melody. But yeah, very good album.
Nostalgic. Was one of my go-to albums in 2006. Reminds me of the Twilight series. Reminds of emo-adjacement music. You forget how good the vocals are. Matt Bellamy's voice does things & conveys emotion in the moments of crescendo & in the quiet whispers. Big fan.
Some bangers on this
Pretty nice and diverse set of sounds. Always liked that album cover looks like it inspired the Breaking Bad color scheme.
album #2 and not only is it another one i already know, it's an album that as a teenager i considered one of my favourites! i don't know that i really have much to say about it though... it's mostly just some some good as hell stadium rock from one of the best headline bands of the early-to-mid 00's, right before an inexplicable nosedive in quality from which they would never pull themselves back up. that being said: i don't think this should be on the 1001 Albums list over {ABSOLUTION}, and certainly not over their bizarre sci-fi magnum opus {ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY}.
A struggle here. A few great songs with a bunch of really mediocre...
Heard many times. Always liked the singles. The other tracks still need time to grow but they're sticking in the head better after this listen.
loved the album cause it me made feel as a teenager again. But nostalgia aside, I struggle to find something that gives cohesion to the album. It sometimes felt like a lot of good songs on a playlist rather than a coherent album telling you something
An enjoyable listen and very well produced album. Highly recommended
Still from the future even 20 years later. Ahead of their time!
Big and bold, to an almost corny extent.
crazy good
supermassive black hole assassin city of delusion knights of cydonia огненный альбом
i was going to throw so much shade for them sounding like radiohead, but that is apparently not a new thought. still slaps tho
Not my favorite Muse album, but Starlight was maybe the #1 song I listened to most in college. Good memories with this album.
Some fantastic songs, occasionally felt a bit samey 4.5
Classic but a little slow when you are in an adhd mood. Fits the Oregon/Washington vibe for sure but twilight could be altering my viewpoint on this.
Transported me physically and emotionally back to being 12 years old and getting SO into this album. One of the first ones I bought when we moved back to the UK from the US and it just blew my mind. So nostalgic to listen again. As an album it holds up so well still, despite the singles being played to death (Starlight in particular). I recognise more of the influences that fed into it now, which does actually enhance the listening! Some 70s through lines.
gros classique
Rock/classical
Great memories from this one, still sounds great
Very front heavy album, but some class tunes on here nonetheless. Nostalgia for my teenage years
This was super good! Didn't realize how similar they were to the Killers.
The first song was bad but the rest are great. Good lyrics good grooves
Should have probably listened to it while I was doing my physics homework instead of my geography but oh well.
No podcast
I feel really bad because Symphorock should be an emilycore genre but it simply isn't. I can't explain it. Maybe it's because everything is so over-the-top epic and badass that it becomes the new baseline and stops sticking out. There are good songs on here for sure like the song from the baseball scene in Twilight but yeah. It sounds good but not 'I need to listen to this again' good.
This really good. Much better than The Black Album.
Very interesting political alternative album.
Quite good, first half of the album was the most enjoyable. It got a little stale for me by the end but I'll definitely be listening to this one again. I'd give it about 75-80/100
its a great album maybe tgey should put more vocals
It really made my morning better and I listened again so I have to give it a four!!!!
already knew
A trip down memory lane for me as I really liked this album and Muse in general as a teenager. The start holds up, with the first four tracks very strong and still stirring that sense of injustice that they did when they were used as ‘I’m right and nobody else is’ songs back then (perhaps helped by the political climate as I write). It doesn’t quite hold up throughout the album, with later songs a bit blander or variations on a theme. I remember really liking Knights of Cynodia, but didn’t hit quite as much now. The start is strong enough to hold on for 4 though.
the baseball scene….
Pretty good. I’d heard Starlight and Supermassive Blackhole before and I enjoyed some of the other songs.
This left me Invincible. It was Glorious.
I know very little about Muse other than whatever album and hit song they had in the mid-2010s. So this album was all new to me. I dig it. Metal dance.
No skips. Brillante.
I used to really enjoy this album, but was surprised to find that it didn't quite reach as high as I expected. Still good, but not quite at the five star mark this time. I do think other albums of theirs are better.
sexy space rock.
Muse were an important band for early teenage me so it was nice to get an album I knew well. That being said, I would have chosen any of the three previous studio albums over this as the Muse representative on this list. The poppier stuff on Black Holes (Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole) doesn't work for me but I enjoy the more electronic Take a Bow and Map of the Problematique. Knights Of Cydonia remains the stand out track; bombastic and silly but great fun.
8 - GOOD
Coyote good songs but kinda operay singing for me
probably their high point (i fell off after the resistance tbh)
Pretty cool album. I assumed this would be a bit more by-the-numbers alt. rock but the band get's pretty creative with the songwriting. Matt Bellamy's got some killer riffs, but his voice still needs to grow on me a bit. Chris Wolstenholme is easily one of the best bass guitarists of 2000s alt. rock. I now can see why during a period where I was obsessed with Dream Theater, their song "Panic Attack" was derided as a Muse ripoff. 8.5/10.
Really love the instrumentation in this one, always keeps me on my toes. I only ever heard the singles from this one before but I'm glad the rest of it is more of the good stuff. Favourite track: Knights of Cydonia
7.5/10 Might be a bit samey but I love how high energy it sounds, especially on the second half.
Very good album was in the gym aswell
It's giving head.
Well this is very different. I like the first couple of songs and I didn't know I already knew Supermassive Black Hole but apparently I do. Unfortunately the album made a pretty big turn that I don't jive with on Assassin but I liked it until then. 4 / 5
This really was Muse's last great album before really falling off into some frankly bland musical territory in their following releases. Thankfully this record retains the stellar quality of music that was featured on their previous music, but certainly doesn't represent a band that is furthering themselves into a greater era musically, rather it's more of a last hurrah before that dive into mediocrity. This all sounds a bit grim, but I do really enjoy this album. Tracks like Supermassive Black Hole represent some of Muse's best work as a band, and I can understand why some fans would consider this their very best record. I do personally prefer their earlier album Origin Of Symmetry, and its heavy maximalist energy, but the quality of music and production is still superb here almost entirely across the board. It is mostly the more theatrical and poppy sound of a couple of tracks on here that leave the album falling a bit short, like Invincible, Soldier's Poem and even Knights of Cydonia. Still, I will gladly give this album its flowers Fav Track: 3 - Supermassive Black Hole Best Three Track Run: 7, 8, 9
Excellent songs and playing, sometimes let down by over-the-top lyrics.
Killer album! Great music, great instruments, great vocals! I had a good time listening to this and will definitely check out more of Muse's music because of this album. An essential album for every rock fan.
this changed my life for the better but perhaps its a little too late to just be finding out about muse.
Great album, I feel let down slightly in the middle.
It was good. I really liked it.
Has much drive to it and gets me going . But not everyboy likes them because its something special.
Take a Bow - 4/5 Starlight - 5/5 Supermassive Black Hole - 5/5 Map of the Problematique - 5/5 Soldier's Poem - 3/5 Invincible - 3.5/5 Assassin - 4/5 Exo-Politics - 4/5 City of Delusion - 4.5/5 Hoodoo - 3.5/5 Knights of Cydonia - 5/5 A grandiose space-influenced album that tends to be a bigger than it actually it. These songs sound like they are meant to be played in a stadium, leaning into the arena-rock aesthetic maybe a bit too much. Didn't detract too much from my enjoyment, with the first 4 tracks and the closing track being the far and away best parts. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique, City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia
