Sign 'O' The Times

I thought I'd like more this album. Prince seems to be an incredible artist that I didn't have the opportunity to check out. Well, it turned out I didn't like this album. It feels very "all over the place", it lasts more than it should. So many no-rememberable songs. I think I only enjoyed one song to a point of giving it a like. Bummer The instrumental slaps, very groovy and funky. But it didn't get to me.

With such a great talent as Prince I was very excited to listen to this album as I had never heard of it before. It had some good lines, some good arrangements, however it was not for me. I kept waiting for something to hit me musically but it never did. The first half of the album seem to stagnate and never really hit a peak, at least this was the feeling I got listening to this. It wasn't until I heard the break on I Could Never Take The Place of You and The Cross that I heard songs worth listening to.

I don't like the song I do not like the beat and I do not like how they sounds . I don't like this song for some of the same reasons as the first song the beat and how he sounds and it is to slow I do not recommend this album.

the first song is okay it could be better the music is good. the next song is okay. the lyrics are weird the background music the voice is okay it sounds like a girl oms not to be rude but it was lowkey good js a little

So Prince didn’t know who Dorothy Parker was when he wrote The Ballad of Dorothy Parker. I found this whole album naff and insufferable but it did make me look up a couple of Dorothy Parker poems again so here are a couple: “ By the time you swear you're his, Shivering and sighing. And he vows his passion is, Infinite, undying. Lady make note of this -- One of you is lying.” “ Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren’t lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live.” And, of course, there’s her reply when being asked to use the word ‘horticulture’ in a sentence on a radio show: You can lead a horticulture but you can’t make her think.

I thought he sucked before but I didn't think it was this bad. When he stops the weird voices and hysterical shrieking there are a couple of decent songs on here

This sounds like a collection of Saturday morning cartoon intros. So unbelievably stupid, what the fuck am I even listening to. Upon finally finishing this, I have come to the realization that I actively hated every single second. Incredibly obnoxious. Horrible Mickey Mouse vocal performances for 80 minutes.

Never been a fan. The guy makes me cringe and shudder. This album has not changed my mind.

Usually when an artist wants to make a double album, let alone a triple, they have a lot of really great hooks waiting to fill it. There is nothing like that here. This is an hour and a half of fucking around with super simplistic crap that does not warrant anyone's attention. This record felt like a punishment.

Prince ages like milk. The music doesn't stand up to those of his peers. Artists like U2, INXS, Michael Jackson, George Michael, The Cure, Depeche Mode,, Guns n Roses, etc all released music in 1987 where most, if not all, still stand up today. His voice is still Prince, but the music is so outdated and would not consider it an album that one must hear.

Un poco pretencioso y no emocionante

Going through this list makes me realise that Prince for me is a lot like Queen. Some indestructible hits and great individual songs, but by God, I really can't stand most of his albums as a whole. This is just so steeped in 80s production. Including tons of synth drums, which is ironic considering there is a bloody big drum kit on the cover. Also, a lot of the songwriting isn't... Really going anywhere. Except to the next 80s synth sound. You can put all of these songs over any big hair 80s romantic drama movie abomination. And I don't mean this in a sort of nice, nostalgic way. Although I'm sure many will.

This was just.... not good. It made a long car ride even longer. 1/5

I like prince, but this album is not good. I think most people would agree that purple rain or maybe 1999 could go on a list of albums that everyone should hear, but this most definitely should not. 1/5

I didn't enjoy it and kept thinking, why does this sound so much like Flight of the Conchords? Except not funny. 1.25 stars.

These songs are way too horny for a man whose voice sounds like it's been run through a meme filter. I don't think I'd have enjoyed it anyway but that's what made this unlistenable for me.

Turns out I just really hate Prince. His music is pretty much just not my type. I have heard kidz bop that sounds better. I am not listening to all of this, HouseQuake sucks mega balls. I also despise Hot thing and Let me be your girlfriend. Sucks through and through, lyrical content, beat, and singing. This might be the worst album yet, and I really hope we start getting better albums soon because I might lose hope in "1001 albums to listen to".

Yesterday I made it through 4 minutes before turning it off. Like, it's supposed to be funky but I'm only tapping my foot nervously. They even put an alarm in one of the songs so you can't sleep through it, they truly know no mercy.

Wasn’t big on the remastering of the songs.. good beats though.

Hugely talented musician and songwriter wastes his immense gift on poundshop sub-funk pop.

Never listened to a prince album before, but obviously know he's pretty iconic Was all over the place and just thought it was a bit shit frankly. I didn't recognise any of the tracks and I don't really get what the fuss is about based on this album. I thought the last few live tracks were probably the best and most coherent, but still didn't enjoy it and won't be back. I know he's got some classic tracks, which I don't mind, but none are here 1.5

Never really listened to Prince before. I'll give it an honest listen. "Slow Love" is a pretty good song. It's the first track that I really think is good. Well I couldn't make it through the rest. It wasn't really keeping my attention. I don't know what all the fuss is about Prince. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Part of me is like maybe Prince knew how bad this was and so this whole album is super meta and this album is on 1001 because it’s a parody of itself, and of pop music at that time, and that’s why he named it how he did, but the other part of me had to turn it off because I couldn’t listen to it.

Yes! This album is a sign o' the times and it needs to stay there. I was sorely disappointed by this album. This is like that movie Cleopatra, big star, big budget has some fans, but really not worth spending hours of your life in the hopes of enjoying something that isn't relevant. Also, sign of the times is the pushy- rape-y- coercion one-sided dialogue in 'If I Was Your Girlfriend'. Maybe I've been married too long, but I can't imagine that would be okay in 2021. With all this sexxy talk, this album just sounds impotent. Treble is not the friend you think it is. I wanted to get into some of the funk, but it seemed lame and tame by today's standards. Didn't they have a bass dial in the studio? I want to feel the thump of those bass lines and the excitement of the crowd. Unfortunately, time has moved on and left this album behind.

NO puedo con Prince

This was a bit of a mess. I stopped one song short of the end with "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night". It was just so bad. The first few songs were fine, but then Housequake came on and ruined it. There were a few others in the same vein that just hurt to listen to. I wasn't a Prince fan before this and I'm not one after this.

Not a fan of Prince but "Adore" is a jam.

I like it. Cool kid vibes with a heavy pinch of angst and anxiety. Soundtrackable.

I'm both enjoying "If I was your girlfriend" and finding it a little disturbing at the end. Overall it feels kind of flat... pretty good but not a new favorite.

Pretty decent for chilling and listening to while working.
