Reviews (page 5 of 13)

Not a style I usually enjoy, but this is so well done, it’s irresistible.

Classic

Greatest soul album of all time, I’ve been loving you too long is immaculate.

Loved the nostalgia and hearing songs that I’m already familiar with from a different tone and perspective.

I love the description of a "dictionary of soul" YES it's amazing! It's partly covers and recorded in 24 hours wow, the covers are incredible though too because Redding brings his unique voice and style and the horns come from the epic Booker T. & the M.G.'s. I must own this on vinyl ASAP. I never knew he wrote Respect originally and his cover of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come is absolutely beautiful and incredibly emotional and meaningful when you learn that Cooke was shot months before the recording. This album is historical and I love it. What a great Friday album.

Perfect for a cold autumn day.

Covers so good they feel like originals

No, Redding hasn't written more than three songs on this album, which is comprised of many cover versions. But Redding's delivery is really special and although the music have different songwriters and styles, he makes the album sound consistent. He restructures and rearranges the music to fit his own style. And together with the amazing backing musicians like Booker T & the MGs, and Isaac Hayes, Redding creates soul magic.

THAT VOICE and oh what a collection of soulful, funky, rockin' songs.

many hits my girl

loved it

Masterclass, j'ai pas raison la team ?

Some cripplingly sad songs on this album one of the true greats of soul

Otis is a legend, and he's in top form here.

Un album de otro planeta. Fresco, movido, histriónico. Para acompañar cualquier momento del día

Awesome album of covers. Exactly what I was hoping to find with this program.

On of the greatest

16th September 2022 Listened in the day while doing bits around the house. Painting the office etc. weekend of house jobs and life admin. Jen in Spain. An album of Otis covering classics, his beautiful voice soars through Sam Cooke and roughs up the stones. Gorgeous.

Honestly an excellent album, one of my very favourites. Had on vinyl since I was about 16.excellent voice, wonderful mood. Evokes something nostalgic, moody and warm. Well arranged genuinely great.

For a short period of time, everything Otis Redding did was perfect. Regardless of the song topics that occupied an album titled Otis Blue, the music within it is some of the more boisterous and euphoric of the entire mid to late era of Sixties soul. From the track that held the key to Aretha's longevity to the honored yet wholly redefined covers of already bonafide classics as well as songs that can guarantee a movement or two on kitchen floors, Otis Blue seems as though it were a misnomer yet it is indicative of what we, sadly, briefly had to bare witness when it came to the overwhelming power of the man himself.

Fan-fucking-tastic. This album is generational.

Loved every bit of this album. Especially the horns. I have some questions about the cover art though.

10/10, so so good Redding amazingly emotional voice + very good manipulation and control of it lots of covers but still better than the original in most cases (ex Sam Cooke on change gonna come)

That was a ripper.

10/10 - groovy as fuck

Seems sick and twisted that this album is in the same company of Alice In Chains

I realize there are a lot of covers, but it is difficult for me to find anything wrong with Otis.

Great performance. 9/10

Fucking glorious. 5/5

Heard before: yes This is a masterpiece. Your soul or heart has got to be missing if you don’t enjoy this slice of fried gold. Great singer, awesome band. Favourite tracks: A Change is Gonna Come, Satisfaction, My Girl, Wonderful World

A great 60s soul album. Really not much else to add here. I have no complaints, enjoyed every song, everything flowed well without sounding repetitive. Definitely something to add to my playlist for future play.

A rare disc that combines sublime covers (many written by the then recently killed/murdered Sam Cook) and great originals. Otis does indeed sing soul - in a way few have done before and after. A must have. And don't get me started on his band, arguably the best ever assembled.

A great voice doing great covers!

Otis Redding has one of my favorite voices of all time. There is so much strength and passion in his singing and it shows on this album. The covers of "Change Gonna Come" and "Satisfaction" are both unbelievable and his version of Respect would probably be better remembered if Aretha did not take it from him forever. No bad song on here.

This was a good album to start your day with, and pretty dang good overall.

decent

Amazing soul/blues album. We all know some of the songs from this, but there's so many good gems too.

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Ole man trouble, A change is gonna come, I’ve been loving you too long, Wonderful world, Satisfaction

An incredible collection of performances from possibly the greatest soul singer of all time. Man, he can really rock too.

One of the best soul records of all time. He was a gift to the world and this record is overflowing with timeless tracks.

Forgot how much I loved his voice will defo listen to some more - and great to recognise from the music of dirty dancing - never knew that was him !

really good

❤️

Awesome.

p75, 1965. 5 stars. One of the all time great vocalists shows how it should be done. Yes, most of these are covers, but they are mostly definitive versions that you'll have heard a thousand times before, and they still sound great. Production is excellent and the MG's are on absolutely top form. There is something on this album for everyone every time you listen to it.

Amazing renditions. Otis was so immensely talented!

Years ago I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A couple of things I saw on that trip are burned in my memory: John Lennon's glasses, and two rumpled remnants of a H18 Beechcraft airplane. Otis Reddding's name was painted on the pieces. I think about that plane frequently when I hear his music, and listening to him is always a bit of a bittersweet experience. Otis Blue isn't a perfect album, but there are several songs on here that are so exceptional that they elevate the whole thing leagues beyond other soul albums. It's silly to quibble over 4 or 5 stars when the music is this good. Otis Redding is a titan among vocalists. He has an ability to exude such earnest sorrow and joy in a way very few singers can. You feel these songs in your bones. Now, most of the songs on this album are covers, but Redding was brilliant as a cover artist. He really makes these songs his own, even songs as iconic as "Satisfaction" or "Change Gonna Come." The star track of course is one Redding wrote with Jerry Butler, the achingly beautiful "I've Been Loving You Too Long." It's arguably the best song Redding ever recorded and possibly the best soul song ever. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): I've Been Loving You Too Long, Change Gonna Come, You Don't Miss Your Water, Satisfaction, Shake, Ole Man Trouble, Down in the Valley, Respect, My Girl, Rock Me Baby, Wonderful World

One of the most incredible voices of all time

Discazo.

This was honestly a fun and joyous listenting experience to be honest. Never would've come across it unless I was taking a music course or went to the US. Has that precise balance of swaying ballads, soul and bumping rock numbers with horns throughout that compliment the sound well.

All the originals

Brilliant

extreme high school memories

Otis Redding’s powerful, passionate vocals were simply stunning, stop you in your tracks good. Even his outtakes were a thrill. Distilled, here, then, the essence of Otis as he ballads (I’ve Been Loving You Too Long) and dances (Respect, Shake) and even rocks (Satisfaction) his way through a near perfect album. The band are great, the vibrant horns act as his backing singers, creating this wonderful mood throughout. What we lost the day he died, taken too soon. His legacy lives on.

DIdn't know that he did Respect and all of these other bangers??? This is so good Change is gonna come is such a great song. Absolutely loved

Did not fully listen but I love his voice

So many hits here. Unbelievably good.

Can't go wrong with Otis

fuck yes otis - banger after banger

Some good ass soul. Otis is the man

Sorry I can't write any notes because I am still recovering from this sexual experience

One of the best albums so far this year

very good!

Classic

Very nice album

It doesn’t get more classic soul than this.

A great album of covers - Otis Redding just has such a phenomenal voice. Incredible

Anything Otis is automatically 5*

Never a bad time for Otis.

The Immortal Otis Redding. I grew up listening to this, and I got the album with Jimi Hendrix and Otis on each side from the Monterrey Pop festival. His voice is amazingly textured.

Absolute classic, bangers all around

Classic soul album. Timeless. Can listen to it any moment.

When it comes to soul music, this is as good as it gets. For some reason My Girl sounded particularly good, and it was interesting to hear Redding's version of Wonderful World, a song obviously made famous by the great Sam Cooke. A superb album that made my day.

The title is self-explanatory: Otis Redding gives his soul spin on classic tunes.

Very blue or soul idk, but I liked the whole album.

Wow what a find!

What a voice, what songs, what versions. It's achingly beautiful.

Every song a stone cold classic.

Amazing.

A stone cold classic album - Otis with one of the best backing bands ever.

Otis Redding had such an expressive voice. It was versatile, acrobatic, yet had a persistent grit to it. However, on songs like 'I've Been Loving You Too Long,' his voice smooths out revealing its delicacy. His songs are buoyant with a lilting beat and a robust horn section. He simply inhabits the music in a way that only the best soul/R&B artists do.

1965 - Blues / Band / Soul

I once grew the nail on my big toe so long that when I eventually clipped it, instead of using a key like everyone else, I would use the toe nail as a cocaine shovel. Yes, endless nights were spent shovelling charlie up my schnozz and listening to Otis Redding. Everyone in London knew me. I was a somebody, the toe nail king of the West End. I've left all that behind me now though and can't even look at a bare foot without wincing.

More soul than SHACK's size 18 shoes. Soul/sole - see what I did there?

Love Otis!

Very lovely

Excellent album.

amazing

Listened to some of it, it was okay. Had classics I had no idea about

fucking legend

A wonderful soul album.

Phenomenal album. Might have been how my day was going but this one hit me just right. Every song has a great groove. Love the Satisfaction cover. New find for me will be listening to this one many more times.

Stand out tracks were "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "You Don't Miss Your Water".

This is already getting 5 stars before I even listen. Otis Redding is one of my favorites.

A perfect record

Man knew how to bang.

So good that it looks like a greatest hits: Respect, A Change is Gonna Come, My Girl and a cover of I Can't Get No (Satisfaction)

Classic

Listened to it twice in a row. A great soul record.

Absolutely beautiful album. Otis did a wonderful cover of "Change Gonna Come" and "Wonderful World".

Excellent. Mostly covers. All hits.

I can listen to this album on repeat all day. Such a great voice and artist. Gone too soon.

Her - vor - ra - gend

Had no idea that Otis was the first one to write and perform 'Respect' - massive tune. Feels like a 4, feels so classy and original. Damn, every track is a classic, Respect, My Girl and Satisfaction. Gotta be a 5/5, its an album full of classics

Brilliant.

Soul primigenio, puro. Mítico. Discazo.

Amazing album! Perfect for a cozy rainy morning or a dimly lit evening in. Vocals and brass that show why Otis is so well known.

Excellent. Otis Redding is so easy to listen to.

Otis Redding could sing K-Pop, Rap or Country, doesn’t matter to me, he’s the MAN.

Classic, wonderful album. Beautiful singing and excellent musicianship, particularly love the bass work.

Obvious 5, probably listened to it more than any other album all the way through

Great voice. Filled with classic tracks. Wish I could write a slightly less asinine review :D

Wonderful. The musicianship from the band is incredible and what a voice. Nearly lost a point for the Stones cover which I'm not sure works but that'd be churlish. 5/5

stone cold classic. The voice :adore: the arrangments :adore: 9.3/10. Minor points off for (probably) overfamiliarity and me not being fussy about a few of the original songs. A minor quibble.

An absolute classic. I never get tired of listening to this.

Great album. Some classic hits that are great to sing along to. Otis has such a distinctive voice and the tunes are fantastic. Also great to hear some slower numbers that are less well known.

Simply amazing. Temazos todos

What can you say. A masterpiece

Very good. 5 stars

A lot of songs that are fundamental in the Lexicon of soul, rock, and pop. Very cool and jam-packed with hits.

I liked this one.

Otro pedo este wey

Blues for my soul, RnB for my body

made me feel something. very soulful. they don’t make it like this anymore

It's Otis Redding. Doing what he does, so well.

I consider this a near perfect album. Redding's voice has such authority. He is missed.

Legendary.

Never listened to this actual LP, though pretty much all of the songs were familiar. Absolutely fantastic.

Otis covers - feels like hanging out with a friend

The definitive Soul album. About half the album is covers (Satisfaction is the standout IMO). Aretha Franklin covered Respect from this album.

my girl ...

Du sucre à mes oreilles. Ecouté et réécouté inlassablement.

So many songs sampled from this album

Have listen to a few of his song, always a good time.

Amazing!!!!

Smooth.

me like

This was a slow start. At first I was like meh, but by the end, I really loved it. I wouldn’t call ”Satisfaction” a soul song, but he nailed it.

I love this era of music, because songwriting/the music industry in general was so different from how it is now you would get the same couple songs performed in a completely different style from pretty much every artist. So on this record alone we have Respect — written by Otis Redding and made into the legendary song it is now by Aretha Franklin two years later, Change is Gonna Come written by Sam Cooke, My Girl written by Smokey Robinson, etc. It is a practice I love, every single artist had their own arrangement of the song and made it entirely unique. I love Redding's versions of all of these songs in a completely different way than I love other renditions, and I absolutely need all versions. I love Otis Redding'd voice, and every single song on this record hits as much as the song before it. Highlights: Respect, Wonderful World, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

The man is a legend. He influenced everyone you like. And while the songs of his that you know probably aren’t on this album, you will know many of the songs here. And the songs you don’t know you will like. Four stars.

Otis is singing the hits like only he can

I was already familiar with most of the songs on this album. The songs are soul but there's a strong hint of rock and roll to them and in some tracks he'd leans into funk. The drums are heavier than you'll hear on any other soul music and his voice operates more like a guitar than a vocal instrument with very precise timing and the way he bends into notes which is unique to him

- i was booooooooorn by the river - i love love LOVE the brass - my girl is... just is

So many amazing classics, love it.

Gorgeous vocals, compelling instrumentation. If this was an album of originals, it would be a 5 for me, but since it's covers, I'm restraining myself with a 4.

Sehr schönes und entspanntes Album. Gut zum Hören nebenbei. Sehr gute Songs/Covers

Awesome voice and awesome songs.

A versitile voice belts out banger after banger.

Otis Redding has an amazing soulful voice that he is a master at controlling and using to express emotion. The songs are familiar and comforting, an instant stress reliever. You can’t help but be in a good mood listening.

Otis Redding has an awesome voice and the composure to successfully pull off Blues, Soul, Rock & Roll, R&B, or whatever else is thrown at him. This was a great listen and it had me rocking in my chair for the entire 2 hrs It played.

THIS is soul. Music that has you wincing as if you were belting out the song yourself. Damn that was good.

I have nothing to say other than i love soul songs and dance break songs. Very enjoyable experience was this album!

A classic album covering hit blues, r&b and Motown songs and transforming them into distinct southern soul. Rolling Stones’ satisfaction, The Temptations “My girl”. He wrote “respect” in 1965 and Aretha Franklin made it her anthem in 67. Loved Ole Man Trouble which was a song written by him!!

Otis has a fantastic voice, so many classics

I don't like soul, but this was fantastic.

Testament to how good Otis Redding was as a vocalist that this has as much of the performing power vocally and otherwise that the other live soul albums that have come up, and its testament to the strength of sound here that despite it being largely covers, you’d be hard pressed to not believe it was all originals, as they’re all pulled perfectly into the very distinctive vocal and instrumental sound Redding has (with Booker T and the MGs). Could do with some different ordering maybe for variance of sound across the album but it’s really quibbles by that point.

Weirdly low energy for a soul album by Otis Redding. Kinda harshed the vibe

On the one hand, Aretha does Respect better… and none of these covers are superior to the originals (Cooke, Temptations, Stones, etc.). On the other hand, it’s Otis. Closer to a five.

i already knew and love some of these! favs: respect a change is gonna come down in the valley i’ve been loving you too long shake my girl wonderful world (i can’t get no) satisfaction rating 3.7/5

Ole Man Trouble, I've Been Loving You Too Long, You Don't Miss Your Water

It’s funny how many of the covers are songs I’d never heard of and the originals are songs I’d heard the covers of. I guess that’s the way it really worked in the 60s. Of all the ones with more famous covers I think only “satisfaction” is better, but that’s largely because I don’t think incredibly highly of the stones. The originals were largely same-ish, but it doesn’t detract from the performance. Redding’s voice is unique and it shines in all of the songs in here. A good, quick listen.

Classic soul album, Redding's powerful and emotional delivery, combined with the solid groove of the backing musicians created something timeless and stirring.

Otis Redding's 3rd album for Stax is arguably his best, and arguably one of the best of the 60s soul boom. Not a revolutionary statement by any means, especially in an age when anybody can listen to these songs and be instantly blown away by the best horn section this side of Sinatra and the best vocalist this side of... well... The only confounding thing here is "Respect," a song I am acutely aware is great, but one that I am also acutely aware I don't like very much. This version, at least. It was cut in the 60s, so I wouldn't go so far as to 'cancel' (whatever that means anymore) Mr. Redding for reflecting what he understood masculinity to be in songs, but I can say that it's a slight blemish on an album that's so goddamn smooth it needs to apply aftershave to mitigate burns.

Loved it!

I dig it

This was a treat. Extremely expressive and you can hear the influence his vocal style had on rock and roll music to come.

7 out of 10. There are some good tracks that are enjoyable and replayable. But it gets kind of boring overtime for me. But, for a 1965 album? This is good stuff. R.I.P. Otis Redding 🙏🕊

Always tinged with sadness otis redding albums when you realise how short a career he had. A voice filled with longing and hope. This is his best album with such great songs like ive been loving you too long and a change is gonna come the standouts. Wonderful stuff.

Yeah I know he died in a plane crash and there's another universe where he lived and became the greatest musician ever yadda yadda yadda Pretty good voice and selection of songs, but man it must suck being the original creator of Respect.

Historic and good, but doesn’t get me hyped

Nice album and easy to listen to.

Amazing album, great songs and Otis does have such a unique voice to bring those songs/covers in a real special, soulfull manner. 1. My Girl 2. I've Been Loving You Too Long 3. Wonderful World

Now *this* is soul music, well and truly embracing the name of the genre in every moment with how passionate and soulful this project is. It's just pure bliss and beauty all the way through, and to be honest I feel like the only thing holding it back is the slightly primitive production, because of that it just seems like there was just a little bit more that this album could have had to offer if it sounded even smoother. But Otis Redding's voice and vocal performances are still easily good enough here to show that he is undeniably a once in a generation singer.

Glæsileg plata, vægast sagt. Otis silkimjúkur eins og fyrri daginn.

Great album

I've Been Loving You Too Long - песня Отиса, которую каверили роллинги My Girl - кавер на Temptations, которую также каверили роллинги Не удивительно, что мне такое близко

Yes! Short and sweet, banger after banger. Good stuff.

Beautiful, soulful voice! Incredibly smooth and soothing. Some of the best soul hits sung in an amazing manner. I admit, it got a bit monotonous but I loved it a lot. Especially because I never heard his versions of these songs, I only knew the originals, and I liked hearing a different approach.

I did not realize Otis Redding had done an album of soul covers but this was a fun way to kick off an otherwise monotonous Wednesday morning at work

Pleasant to listen to. I liked it

Man's got a great voice! This is the kind of music I love to have mixed into lists, but I never think to grab an album like it. He's got a lovely voice with a good range and it can be very expressive. But the covers and the same-ness of so many of the songs keeps it off my lists. "Respect" is crazy. One of those very rare instances where a cover is so much better than the original. It's fun to hear it here and to acknowledge the songwriter. But Aretha owns this one! I've added couple of these to lists. His voice is mesmerizing. But honestly, I still won't be pulling up the album for a go-through again. And the music? with Booker T and Isaac Hayes? Yikes! I usually think of a lot of soul like I do modern pop. It always seems to be a simple melody, light basic drums, and some keyboard to fill the space. And then you get the singer that's belting it out. But I NEED the music to be interesting too! Albums like this, where the music is banging and really supports the singer, are great revelations. I'll go with a 4 on this.

This guy can cook! What a voice. These songs still sound great.

mostly cover songs but Otis is a great vocalist! full of energy and soul for sure. quite long since it's a compilation album tho lol.

Loved it. Redding's mighty voice and those horns are a combo for the ages, most of the album is covers but the way he interprets them makes it still feel exciting

Really enjoyed this & it prompted me to listen to some more Otis Redding too.

This album is such a joy. A slow start with the first track, but after that it's nothing but upward and away. With the original version of "Respect", his cover of "Satisfaction" (which was a cover cut very shortly after the Stones' release), and so many other hits, this album is great for easy listening, chores, cruising in the car. Whether you realize it or not, Otis Redding has helped you build memories in your life. Everything about 7this music is lovely. We lost such an incredible musician way too soon when we lost Otis Redding.

RATING: 9/10 HIGHLIGHT: Down in the Valley LOWLIGHT: Respect

I'm giving this 4, because while I love soul, and this was a fun listen, I prefer some of the originals rather than the covers on here.

A short and sweet listen. Otis is a great performer but to be honest I rarely feel like his renditions are among the best. However I think that has little to do with his own talent and more to do with there being so many high caliber performers around this time. It’s a stiff competition and definitely a matter of opinion. Regardless, I enjoyed the experience and it’s an excellent afternoon vibe.

My only slight against this album is that I do not appreciate the lack of coherent song endings. I truly hate the fade out and I recognize that it's a product of the time, I'd like to see an Otis Redding performance from the time to get some quality ending cresendos.

Fantastic album from Otis

How can you not love a record containing some of the best soul singing of all time backed by Booker T the MGs and Isaac Hayes ? It’s pretty much as awesome as advertised.

1.Ole Man Trouble / Great 2.Respect / Amazing 3.A Change Is Gonna Come / Great 4.Down in the Valley / Amazing 5.I’ve Been Loving You Too Long / Amazing 6.Shake / Great 7.My Girl / Great 8.Wonderful World / Great 9. Rock Me Baby / Good 10.(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction / Good 11.You Don’t Miss Your Water / Amazing This Albums has some very groovy tracks and stays consistent throughout the whole thing

Klockren 4a. Sjysta låtar med snygga arr. Bra soul!

Another classic jazzy feeling album with great instrumentation and feel good vocals. Also loved the cover of my girl in there. 7/10. Favorite Song: My Girl

stunning

Good stuff

Classic! A no skip album for sure.

Old school bluesy vibes. Good stuff

1) ole man trouble (sounds very familiar) Overall a good listen for oldies fans

No1. Mike-8.5 Josie-9.0 Listened on the day we got a tenant for our flat

I really enjoyed this. I can understand why it’s beloved and the appearance from booker t and the MGs was hype

Tenk det a

I'm pretty sure I've listened to this in its entirety at some point before, but I couldn't tell you when. It's interesting how little audible difference there are between the covers and the originals on this one. I know which are which simply by exposure, but if I didn't know already, I probably would not be able to tell from how they are produced and performed. That's a real professional there. The cover of 'Shake' is a low point. Arrangement sounds thin and ramshackle. I do prefer the Devo cover of Satisfaction. Though it is interesting to hear Steve Cropper do the Satisfaction riff with his obviously superior technique. This album is sitting at an interesting point in history, right? It's right at the transition point where the album is just starting to come into its own as the medium of music, but the single still reigns supreme. Obviously, 'Respect' is the album's centerpiece, but 'Old Man Trouble' is the standout to me. Perhaps that's just because it sounds like the prequel to the Dock of the Bay I know is in the future, but Redding sells weariness better than almost anyone I know. 'Respect' is a bit of a strange one to listen to now. It's not unusual for a song to be eclipsed by a superior cover, but it is rare for a song to be eclipsed by a cover that completely inverts its meaning, as happened here. The original is still a great song, of course, but it's lacking something crucial that we now know it can have.

8.2/10, honestly his voife was very amazing i like the instruments. Everthkng gous so well together

Otis is a great songwriter with a powerful voice. Would love to hear more of HIS songs. That being said, he still does the covers justice.

lotta classics on here. Otis writing “Respect” is so funny to me. only thing that could make this album better is “Try a Little Tenderness”

souful , jazzy , nostalgic!

4.5 stars Solid album with solid songs. Great covers and a great original that became a great cover. Straight to the point and delivers as promised.

Really enjoyable listen, except for Satisfaction.

The tone of Blue vacillates between soulful, solemn, spirited and sometimes even sexy. I didn't realise so many of the songs were covers, so am relieved that Respect is his own, a song which looms larger than Otis Redding himself.

Otis Blue is getting a low 4, i still deduct points for playing standards which may be unfair, this is beautiful music

Fantastic vocals and instrumentation! I wouldve liked to see to see more original songs and more diversity in sound

this guy and his vocals can join the "people who could sing literally anything and i would lap it up" club.

yup, love me some Otis

This album has some really great songs, some others are not that interesting, but, sure, I've enjoyed this record. There is a bit of everything it can offer without being just soul. So it's a pretty enjoyable and pleasant listening. I haven't loved some tracks although, so it hasn't totally convinced me yet. But it's a beautiful record, it really is.

Probably in the top of my favourite vocalists ever, Otis takes these cover songs and absolutely smashes them. Many versions compare or surpass the originals in my ears.

Beautiful blues! Energetic, danceable, and foundational.

Great performance of a lot of covers, even though I associate most of the songs with covers by different artists.

this is so incredibly smooth

================================================ CALIFICACIÓN ★★★★☆ ================================================ Es un álbum excelente, le pondría entre 3,5 a 3,7 redondeando a 4. Algunas canciones como "Ole Man Trouble" y "I've Been Loving You Too Long" me produjeron una sensación conocida como "frisson" algo que "no es muy común". Directo a mi biblioteca.

Great and wonderful stuff, much of which I already knew. Hell of a singer, hell of a songwriter.

Found it delightful. Lots of songs we already know that were performed by others and his versions were fun and fantastic.

I wonder what Otis would have become if he hadn't died so young. Great covers and original songs.

Some bangers, but maybe a little bit too old school.

otis blue- kanye sample born by the river ive been loving you very good MY GIRLLLLL wonderful world made me feel better about being bad at math good album 8.5/10

You can tell when an album is regarded as a classic, because you can buy merch via Spotify! Tempted by the Respect skinny pink T-shirt. Especially if it really makes me look skinny! Good luck with that 😅 Anyway, Otis Blue really is a "classic", unlike a lot of the drivel I've heard since starting this challenge. The voice! The horns! I could listen to this all day. It's an easy four, bordering on five, from this jury.

Hard to go wrong with a premise like this! While I do think it can get a touch repetitive at times, and I can’t say every cover Otis undertakes is an improvement on the original (most obviously “Respect”), but if the title is something you’d like, you’re in for a good time.

Very good. Just too many covers to get the full 5 stars

- i love his voice so much he does these songs so well - favorites: a change is gonna come, down in the valley, my girl, (i can't get no) satisfaction - rating: 3.5/5

I’ve been loving you too long. Ole man trouble, You Don’t miss your water och Change gonna come kanske ännu bättre än originalet.

Rating: 8.5/10 Favorite song(s): A Change Is Gonna Come, I’ve Been Loving You Too Long, Respect, My Girl Review: Very easy to listen to. Amazing voice. Great song writing and cover selection. Not my absolute favorite Otis, but a great album. Listen again?:

Heerlijk

Every soul album prior to the 70s has the same formula of writing the big singles, and then packing the rest of the album with a bunch of filler (maybe a cover or too here and there). So when the generator gives a record like this, do you rate it off the singles or look inward at the filler? The filler wasn't even that inconsistent though, and actually ranks well among the hits. Great singing along with nice songwriting and arrangements with the orchestras and band make the album absolutely listenable, but I don't hear anything out of the ordinary from this respective genre. Quality soul and blues.

I had never listened to Otis Redding before. I now understand why he is so famous. Seems so solid for 60 years ago, and the context of the racial tensions in the US at that time it gives it a powerful meaning to me. Incredible voice that captures the soul of soul music.

Love me some Otis. 4/5

I loved this. Soulful and rich. Few can sing like Otis Redding. I was a few songs in and thinking I was gonna give this a 5, but then it occurred to me how many of these songs are covers. It’s just a compilation record, not a true “album.” So for that reason, I’m downgrading it to a 4. But that doesn’t diminish how enjoyable this is to listen to.

Somewhat felt very familiar, probably because lots was sampled later on & RESPECT from Aretha or Satisfaction (actually a cover here). Nonetheless interesting to listen to!

When I saw this album pop up it made my day. Truly one of the lost legends, a voice and writing talent ahead of his time. Sadly most of the songs on this album were not Otis originals but you can still enjoy is smooth vocals on some classic songs like Satisfaction, My Girl and Wonderful World.

This was good. I'm typically not a fan of soul, though a few make it through, such as this one.

For being such an iconic piece of 60s music, I didn't realize just how many covers and iconic tracks would all be able to be squeezed into this short 32 minute runtime. Whether it is the original version of Respect, the gut wrenching cover of Change Gonna Come, or the groovy version of Satisfaction, Otis Reading truly shows off a lot of his own musical talent as well as inspirations all throughout Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul. I knew covers were a lot more common back in the day, but the fact that this project has 8 covers and 3 original songs is truly mind-blowing to myself in the year of 2026. It is also really interesting to see just how well Otis makes each song his own as he just bodies them and makes the presentations feel so fitting for his own style. It isn't anything extraordinary, even with some killer covers, it is just a great Soul album from an artist gone too soon. Is there anything else that really needs to be said about that?

Almost no one sounds like they put more effort into singing than Otis Redding.

Superb You cant be blue after listening to this So many classic songs What a voice

Quite good for my 1/1001 albums to listen and discover. Kind of reminds me of Beyoncé’s Homecoming Live at Coachella; that would be the closest proximity I have for this type of sound. Standouts are Change Gonna Come and Down in the Valley. A song that I know of is My Girl. I give it 4 stars out of 5.

I didn't know what to expect going into this one, but then it turned out that I already know a bunch of these songs. Yeah, there's some classics here, and they are popular for good reason. "Wonderful World" especially always puts a smile on my face. Favorite tracks: "My Girl," "Wonderful World," "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"

Not bad

muito chill, gostei! :)

Beautiful album. My Girl its a Classic but wow the rest of the album is just pure passion. Soul is definitely a part of my essence in some way.

Love it! Some songs were added to my favorite playlist so for me that means a lot

Some really good stuff here. Some tracks kinda blend into one long one with the same style, pacing, instrumentation, etc. But hey, it sounds great throughout.

Otis Redding's kind of soul music: powerful, emotional, and heartfelt.

4 a change is gonna come

buen album de soul Ive being loving you too long me gusto esta chida suena a señora de familia tradicional limpiando su casa mientra su esposo llega en su ford falcon 1965 color azul cielo y su camisa de tirantes (importante la camisa con tirantes eh)

Buenísimo! Muy de la época, me sorprendió.

This is an awesome cover album. Love how he blends soul and blues with rock and jazz. Otis has great emotion in his singing. This album will get your toes tapping.

Great genre crossover album

That’s the best version of Satisfaction I’ve ever heard

Genial

Pure shite

This album rips. I had no idea how many absolute classics were here, a great listen.

Nice album

While I prefer the original versions of several of the songs Otis covers here (especially the Sam Cooke numbers), he does a great job on all of them, and his backing band is excellent too. I don’t think this is one of the definitive ‘60s soul albums that some reviews argue it is - it may not even be Otis’s best - but it’s a damn solid record. 4.5/5

Excellent voice, excellent backing band, excellent song choices and originals. I'm definitely not a Soul music person, but the quality here is simply undeniable. Redding was simply one of the best to ever do it. I don't know who that blonde lady is though. Key tracks: Ole Man Trouble Respect I've Been Loving You Too Long My Girl Wonderful World

This is how you do emotions in music right! You feel everything but it doesn't feel like he is doing too much or that he is over the top. It feels raw, real and true. I didn't know he did Respect first, but thats awesome and a very different perspective hearing it from a guy! Lots of soul...deep soul here. Gotta give him respect

Soulfully great collection of songs!
