Doolittle did very little for me. A few good songs (which I have on the greatest hits) this didn’t blow me away.
I’m very much in the minority it seems but I just don’t really get the Pixies.

I was asked if I had laser eye surgery because I had stopped wearing my glasses.
I explained about 1001 albums generator and how it’s a great way to get out of a musical rut and expand your knowledge. It introduces you to things that may never have been on your radar and you otherwise may never have heard of.
I then told them about The Hagman’s Beautiful Daughter by The incredible String Band, an album so terrible it made me regret the endeavour, grudge my Apple Music subscription and ultimately cut my ears off so as to never endure something like this again and that is the reason I no longer wear my glasses 🤓.

The good thing about 1001albumsgenerator is that you maybe start with the opinion that although you liked the Jam, you hated Paul Weller solo stuff, and just like that you get Wild Wood and your opinion is validated.
A competent album that neither moves or excites but simply floats over your head leaving you no better off for having listened to it

Thought process while listening.
What a din.
Don’t know if I like it but.
Sonically some interesting ideas just a shame the can’t turn them into songs.
How long does this go on for?
Can’t wait to hear what’s next.
Are these lyrics I’m supposed to be hearing?
I bet people have killed while listening to this.
At least that one was short.
Jings, what’s next?
Jesus wept
And
Just laughing to myself
Certainly a challenging listen. Not my taste wouldn’t say it was good but also not the worst thing I’ve ever listened too.
Don’t think I’ll be listening again though.

I’m a massive fan of rap music and I do like Eminem but find a whole LP a struggle. That aside I don’t think I’ve listened to The Slim Shady LP in its entirety in about 25 years and I must say it’s fine, I can totally understand why some people would not be on board with it but I’m not one of them.

It ain’t hard to tell that this is a contender for the best rap LP of all time, maybe Wu-tang pip it to the post
An excellent debut that really does represent a NY State of mind
Representin’ y’all it’s illmatic
1 rapper, 1 guest spo (the criminally underrated AZ), 5 dope producers (Large Professor, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Q-tip and L.E.S.)
9 incredible songs and an intro.
An album I’ve owned on CD, cassette, LP, MP3 and I even have the documentary DVD.
Nice to take a trip down memory lane.

Love this LP, still got my vinyl copy purchased for £8.99 at One-Up records, Aberdeen in 1994.
Jeru is a great rapper and these are some of DJ Premier’s best beats. I am somewhat surprised but happy to see this on the list,It’s a solid east coast rap LP no mistake, just not sure it’s more worthy than countless other great rap lps released in 94 (well 90s in general),Never know we may see some of them later.
I also wonder if we’ll see “Wrath of the Math” on the list.
Miles Davis
2/5
Erm, I don’t hate this but I don’t like it either I’m barely down 2 songs in my drive to and from work and I usually do a whole album in that trip.
I may come back to this at some point but I’m not sure my patience will let me
Afrika Bambaataa
3/5
I’m a big fan of rap and hip-hop so I am fully aware of Bambaataa, (the good stuff and the bad) his impact on hip-hop and I’ve even seen him DJ live. I’ve never however, been a massive fan of Electro. Sure of course I know Planet Rock, Renegades and Perfect beat but I wasn’t excited to listen to this LP, but I must say I enjoyed it more than I expected.

88/89 saw the release of It takes a nation by Public Enemy, 3 feet high and rising by De La Soul, and Paul’s Boutique by The Beastie Boys, all 3 LPS were a masterclass in sampling and really showed what could be achieved “stealing” from other artists.
Paul’s boutique has an estimated 105 samples, although I suspect there’s many more. The fact that it is so cohesive is testament to the production skills of the Dust Brothers
Unfortunately the legal action taken against De La meant that the sampling laws changed and hip-hop has never really sounded as good as this ever since.
Paul’s boutique-An easy 5⭐️
Beastie Boys are potentially my favourite group of all time and this might be my favourite of their albums (it’s not its Ill communication. It’s not its Hello Nasty)

In 95 I was deep into hip-hop, had no time for the likes of Alanis Morissette.
Wasn’t for me, wasn’t my thing, wasn’t good.

4/5
A very important piece of hip hop history. No NWA, no or certainly very different versions of Ice Cube, Dr Dre and by extension Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Tupac to name a few. An album I first heard as 12 year old, I don’t question its cultural significance. I do however question its stature. It has 4 or 5 very good songs but songs with Easy E or no Ice Cube suffer.
Still a 4 though for its impact

Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
OutKast
4/5
Let’s be honest here, I like OutKast but they have 4 better albums than this. It’s not bad, in fact I enjoy the majority of it.
Big Boi’s speakerboxxx is the better of the two solo albums but it’s Andre 3000 who has the bigger song cause if you don’t know OutKast from Ms. Jackson you sure as hell know them from Hey Ya.
I’d probably give this 7 out of 10 so I’ll round up to a 4 out of 5 but I do think this is OutKast’s weakest LP…. Idlewild doesn’t count.
Also truly a double LP with this essentially two solo albums but it’s tooooooooooo long.

American pie is a banger and consequently I think the rest of the LP suffers. I like Maclean’s voice and the songs are good but the rest struggle to match the title track

Now, did I like this more than I expected or hate it less than expected.
Not my bag but not terrible. Reminiscent of BodyCount, don’t like them either

Thoroughly nice LP if ever so slightly bland, if it were ice cream it would be vanilla, pizza it would be Margherita and crisps it would be ready salted.

It’s like Bowie and Beyoncé birthed a big beautiful bouncing baby but better and it’s brilliant.
Loved it

Automatic For The People by R.E.M.
A truly great L.P. and an easy 5 ⭐️. I was 15 or 16 when this was released and my friends and I listened to it a lot as well as other LPs by the band.
I tried to ignore the fact that I know I love this LP and the band and listen with fresh ears, I still love this LP. Although it does hit differently as I approach 50, far more melancholic than I remember.
I have so many memories attached to this record and it is truly a masterpiece.
