Massive Attack
2/5
The first song (and a couple of other songs in the album) are quite similar to a parody talk that Reggie Watts had at POP TECH where he was saying a bunch of nonsense and was making that kind of music on-stage but it was very nonsensical. I don't think that the album was absolutely amazing, but I am sure it has an audience. There was nice little music in the background and then someone would appear and say things relatively quietly, and sometimes the things would rhyme.

The Who
3/5
Keeping in mind that this album is from 1965, it is slightly outdated because of the crazy rock stuff that came out 10-20 years later, but it is overall quite nice. I enjoyed it but I would say that it was definitely better listening to this back in the day than now.

Kraftwerk
3/5
I was very confused when listening to this album. It was more of a background type of music, that you would enjoy having on while doing something that requires you to focus, as it doesn't really have too much singing, or at least you don't notice it at a lower volume. It was... a different type of experience and I feel like it's aimed at specific people, but it sounds like it would mainly be used as background music in movies.

The Everly Brothers
5/5
Very nice relaxing 60s vibes. I had no idea that Love Hurts was originally performed by the Everly Brothers. I can see myself listening to this album a lot if I was a teenager during those times. All of the songs have the same sounding vibes but it's either a bit slower or a bit faster, but that was popular so no wonder people were shaking their ankles to it.

Thundercat
1/5
This was... just sounds that were probably meant to be the electronic version of a jazz note jumping up and down but it just sounded horrible to listen to. I'm sure there are people out there who would enjoy this and it would have made more sense if this was released in the 80s when someone may have experimented a bit, but 2017.. naah. I realised why this album is here - the Them Changes song towards the middle of the album is relatively popular, so I guess that bumped up the album quite a lot.

Beck
2/5
I know one Beck song and it is "Loser" because it would play a lot on the rock radio that I would listen to, but this album was pretty bad, something that you would maybe write while not at all present on Earth (on drugs). There were a few songs that had some really annoying sounds that made me decrease the volume quite a lot. I would rate this 2/5. It may have been cooler back in those late-90s days while you were enjoying smoking weed on the weekend but it's not really my thing.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Nice and chill, enjoyed it. It's a bit sad that Superstition was not in this album, but hey - we're discovering completely new albums. Stevie did a wonderful job!
Charles Mingus
1/5
I would say that this whole album was off-key and very annoying, and we struggled listening through the whole thing. Yes, it was a good thing that there were only 4 songs but also they were sooooo long, we may as well have listened to 15 songs. I like jazz music and I find it very smooth and relaxing sometimes, but this was a bit too much :D
Earth, Wind & Fire
4/5
The beginning of the album was great - very chill, very nice, very relaxing... but then things started getting a bit too much towards the end because there were too many instruments at the same time, but that was just the last 2 songs, I think. Overall - better than this jazz guy that we got last time.
Dire Straits
5/5
Ah, I love Sultans of Swing... I also love how pretty much all of the songs have this Dire Straits sound. The guitar play is majestic, the songs are very relaxing and chill. You can't really have perfect songs throughout the whole album, so they have their ups and downs in the album, but overall great sounding album.
Funkadelic
4/5
I had veeeeery low hopes for this, given the name of the artist and the album and also the person speaking in the beginning of the first album haha HOWEVER... the beautiful guitar work in the first song really got me intrigued. It kind of had a slightly more expanded Jimmy Hendrix sound to it. The second song was nice but then the rest were a bit too much :D too many instruments playing over there, it was a bit overwhelming, and also the last 3 songs weren't available for my region on Spotify, so I had to look them on Youtube. Things started off well but, as the name suggests, this is more for whenever you are on drugs and want to have something to make things worse in the background. On top of everything, the Wars of Armageddon song had farts and toilet flushing sounds, which was too much, alongside the too many instruments playing at the same time. The last three tracks that were unavailable for me on Spotify are actually Bonus Tracks to the album, and they were actually very nice and normal, so that's great.
Beatles
5/5
I mean... what can I say, it's The Beatles after all. Of course, there are some songs that aren't absolutely top (S) tier but I don't that anyone can do a full 10/10 album. Also, it really helps knowing the songs because it makes you a bit biased when rating them but some of the songs sound so good that even if it was my first time listening to them, I would've still enjoyed them. There aren't that many guitar solos, but I love the ta ta Ta Ta TA TA Ta Ta ta ta bit towards the end of Girl. Compared to some of the albums that we have gotten the last few days, this is amazing.
Radiohead
3/5
I am surprised by how not-too-depressed (as I thought) Radiohead would be. I don't think that I have listened to any other of their songs, apart from Creep, but this wasn't too bad. A couple of the songs were a bit too much but the rest were decent.
De La Soul
1/5
Yeah, so... this is not really my type of music and I didn't really enjoy it, but I am sure there are people out there who listen to that kind of music, so as long as they enjoy it - party time woo
Bob Dylan
4/5
Nice and relaxing music. I know that Bob Dylan has some really great hits, but these hit hard back in his day.
Joy Division
3/5
Kind of neutral, to be honest. It was nice but I wouldn't say that it was absolutely the best. This sounds like something they would play on Absolute Classic Rock Radio, which is great.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Very nice and chill Johnny Cash album, I enjoyed having this as my background music during the duration of all the songs.
Herbie Hancock
3/5
The album started off very nicely - chill, groovy, jazz vibes... but at some point they started using too many instruments at the same time and it got a bit overwhelming, so 5 stars for the first song and then the rest re a bit... meh
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Actually not too bad, feels like the anarchist, punk culture in the UK. At some point, things got a bit too much, but overall - pretty cool.
Pixies
3/5
The album started off a bit meh but later on got alright.
The Yardbirds
4/5
I really enjoyed this album. I checked the year and was shocked to see that it was from 1966. The guitar work is amazing and the singing it okay too. Sounds amazing at loud volume.
Supertramp
4/5
The first song in the albums started off super quietly, so I completely forgot that I was listening to music, and it jumpscared me when it got a bit louder. Overall - nice songs, and it's clear that they are quite old, but still good though.
Eminem
3/5
I didn't expect to see Eminem here, but that was a pleasant surprise. I used to listen to him when I was young but now I just give him a little listen every now and then. I have to admit that I hadn't listened to most of the songs from this album, but enjoyed listening to some of the songs. No wonder Eminem is so popular, some songs are very nice.
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this album in this list, but here we go - I like the song with Aerosmith... who doesn't... but all songs had their own typical style, so they were pretty similar to listen for the first time. Back then - pretty cool album, but nowadays - doesn't impress me that much.
Kraftwerk
The Shamen
2/5
The album was meh at first, then it kind of got a little bit better, and then it started getting super annoying because everything was the same 10 seconds repeated for a few minutes. When I listen to this, I imagine empty clubs with maybe 5-6 people here and there. I didn't find this album that great.
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
I was surprised to find out that there were quite a lot of familiar songs in this album, and the rest pretty much sounded the same.
Janelle Monáe
4/5
actually, not too bad.. I was a bit confused by the beginning of the album, as it started off with classical-ish music and then there were a few songs that sounded as if the instrumental was good enough but there was also this person singing over it, but then things got a bit better, so not a bad album
The Black Crowes
4/5
Rod Stewart
4/5
Very nice and chill album, I had it playing in the background and enjoyed listening to it.
Green Day
4/5
pretty cool album, basically what I would expect from a green day album.. this is what a large portion of music around the year 2000 sounded like
ZZ Top
4/5
Very nice, familiar-sounding zz top album, liked the music but I might be biased because I like that kind of music.
Soundgarden
3/5
Alright album, not too bad, I guess you could listen to the sound of Soundgarden in your garden, but if it's too loud, the neighbours might complain... they always do :(
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Actually not too bad but this album was a bit weak, in my opinion.
Parliament
4/5
Nice and groovy, enjoyed this as background music. Wasn't too harsh but wasn't too soft, so it was nice doing other stuff while this was playing.
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
It's a good thing I was doing other things while listening to this because it was a very lengthy album with basically the same type of songs, so if you weren't familiar with Sarah's music, you wouldn't be able to tell that it's not the same song on repeat. I know that this would have been an epic album 67 years ago but.. yes, personally didn't enjoy that much today.
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Amy's voice is just.. where does all of that come from? Anyway, great album, amazing voice, songs were bops. Would recommend.
Oasis
3/5
It was alright, there was one familiar song and the rest was a bit generic-sounding nowadays
The Undertones
1/5
Holy.... this album was so long that I could barely go through the whole thing, it took 45 minutes to go through the whole thing (well, I took break, so it took me a few hours). It's not bad but the whole thing sounded like a very generic album, which could've been fine for its time but it was too much for me. It started off alright but by the end, I had already understood their whole thing. The most exciting feeling that I felt today was when I realised that the album had ended.
Roxy Music
2/5
This whole album was just a bunch of sounds, or noises in some cases even, it was a very disorienting experience, there was only one good bit, I think during the first song, where there was a pleasant-sounding experience.
Update - the second to last song was actually pretty good most of the time, so that's why it's 2 stars and not less, but then the last song ruined everything again.
Pulp
3/5
This was alright, not too bad but also wasn't incredibly impressive to listen to. It was a nice background album to listen to though.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
1/5
well... it was alright but nothing really happened throughout the whole album, it was more like just music to fill up a whole album. I thought that it was a bit meh
The Who
3/5
wow... not only did they give us a Deluxe album, but a Super Deluxe one, and it has 3 discs in it for a total of 3 and a half hours... definitely way more than I wanted it to be (fortunately, I couldn't listen to disc 2 because it wasn't available on spotify and didn't show up in a google search) but after listening to it, I am slightly disappointed, as I was expecting a good The Who performance. I really like a couple of their songs and this was a bit too generic, nothing too exciting, nothing really happened throughout the whole album. I know that this was probably great for 1969 but I feel like it was a bit meh listening to the whole thing today.
UPDATE - turns out that the Super Deluxe edition is just the same album but repeated three times - Disc 2 is Demo versions, and Disc 3 is the whole album but the live versions from Canada in 1969.
The Thrills
3/5
Okay, so this album was chill, it's a nice little background jam but nothing too exciting happens in there, it's as if they're singing just for the sake of singing haha
The Coral
4/5
WOAH, I genuinely was very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this album. It's not something that a lot of people would appreciate, but I just liked the vibes. I don't think that there was anything special that day but I just felt hyped up when listening to the first two songs of the album. Of course, things started going downhill from the third song onwards, but I didn't expect it to be a perfect album, which is why I am giving it 5 stars. Pretty exciting getting an album that is not difficult to listen to :D
Crosby, Stills & Nash
2/5
This was alright to listen to, not too bad, but it kind of lacked any exciting things. It was chill for background music.
Fats Domino
2/5
This sounded like the typical 50s album. It was nice but it was pretty much the same throughout all the songs.
Elliott Smith
2/5
This was chill but it was a bit too dead at times. It was nice as background music but nothing too exciting.
Peter Tosh
2/5
I don't know... it was alright for just having in the background because it was chill but at the same time, it wasn't anything exciting, so I don't know if I can rate it higher.
Red Snapper
2/5
so.. this was mainly instrumental, but listening to a whole album that sounds like the intense movie chasing scene background music that you used to get in the early 2000s is a bit too much, so I didn't really enjoy it, but at the same time, it wasn't THAT bad to rate it 1 star... and the songs that weren't chasing scenes, it was super annoyingly repetitive, saying the exact same things over and over again. The one song that started off nice and peacefully "Alaska Street" had some super annoying sounds throughout the song towards the middle of the song.
Van Morrison
4/5
I was surprised twice today - once when I realised that I don't think I have listened to Van Morrison before, and also when I realised that Van Morrison's music is not what I expected it to be. I am quite satisfied with this album, pretty happy with the vibes, enjoyed having this in the background while I was doing other stuff.
Public Enemy
2/5
I postponed listening to this for two days (it showed up on a Friday) because it's an hour of basically the same type of music. I am not old but this is not really my type of music. I know that this was very popular for its time but I was listening to the rap music that came out 15 years after this. It sounds alright but it's definitely not something distinctive.
Michael Kiwanuka
3/5
I thought that this wouldn't be too great, based on the first few songs in the album, but the song Hero was quite nice, although it was quite repetitive. It's okay though, but the rest of the songs are a bit meh.
Maxwell
3/5
Actually very nice and smooth for background listening. I wouldn't listen to this on my headphones but playing this on my speakers while chilling in bed, for example. Pretty relaxing album.
Elton John
4/5
Even if you didn't know who Elton John was, you could tell why these songs were popular back in the day. The only one that was familiar was the first one in the album. I am happy with this album, and given that this was released in 1971, this was massive back then.
Neil Young
4/5
The only song that I knew from this playlist was Heart of Gold. Pretty chill for background music.
R.E.M.
4/5
Pretty cool having this album in the background, it was nice.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
I left this running in the background while I was doing stuff, and when I looked at what song was playing, it was towards the middle of the second disc, so I was very happy that the songs had gone by super quickly. I then later realised that I had shuffle on, and in fact I had only played a couple of songs. It's not too bad, and I especially love the extensive singing in the background, it really adds a lot of extra weight.
The Magnetic Fields
2/5
I was extremely disappointed that I had to listen to almost 3 hours of this album, which consists of 3 disks. It wasn't THAT bad, but would've enjoyed it just as much if it was only 15 minutes long. Kinda chill, it's nice that the songs were relatively short. Definitely very weird at times, and although I was going to rate it 1 star, it kind of made me not hate it too much after bonding with the album for almost 3 hours...
Kanye West
3/5
I don't think that I had listened to a full Kanye album, maybe a few songs separately, but actually it's not too bad. People keep saying how he's talented and although I wouldn't really sit down and listen to the whole album again, it wasn't something that I would hate. I enjoyed the "Never Let Me Down" song with Jay-Z and J. Ivy the most, but yes.. it's alright.
Cheap Trick
3/5
It was alright, most of the songs sounded pretty generic but I feel like it's because it sent me to the live performance album recordings of the songs. Overall okay though.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Oh yeah, I knew quite a lot of the songs from this album. I am very happy with this suggestion. Even pretending like I am not biased, I enjoyed the album. HOWEVER, there are better Elvis albums, which is why this is not a 5-star rating.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Nice little playlist, most of the songs weren't familiar, but I would've jammed to them back in the day.
Thundercat
1/5
This was... just sounds that were probably meant to be the electronic version of a jazz note jumping up and down but it just sounded horrible to listen to.
Nitin Sawhney
2/5
This was a bit of a weird album, definitely for background music in movies and not just for listening for fun. There were a couple of interesting songs, which is why this doesn't get 1 star, but a little bit of a confusing album that has a very niche audience, I guess.
Bobby Womack
3/5
Very nice and chill album, relaxing for background listening. Would recommend, although half of the album was unavailable for me for some reason.
Jerry Lee Lewis
3/5
Has some Elvis vibes, sounds nice, makes you want to shake it, pretty nice. Even though the album is live, it's pretty good.
The White Stripes
2/5
I have rated this as if I don't know, and don't like, the two famous songs that they have. Without knowing that they are popular, you would think that the Little Ghost song sounds relatively smart but that's it, not a very exciting album, but it's nice and peaceful.
Sparks
2/5
I really like the guitar solo towards the end of the Complaints song, but the rest of the songs are not too great. The most annoying song was easily Equator.
Carpenters
3/5
The "Help" song confused me a bit but I double-checked and the Beatles had released it 5 years before this album came out, so yes.. had to check, just in case I was wrong. Overall, decent album, nice little background vibes, nothing too exciting.
Depeche Mode
3/5
It's just Personal Jesus, Enjoy The Silence and I guess Policy of Truth that were okay, the rest of the songs were a bit meh. Nothing really too exciting, although these songs became quite popular, but hey, you can't have a whole album that's good.
N.W.A.
2/5
Okay, I know that 30 years ago this was revolutionary because they were direct, they sounded cool, but... I don't know, I prefer the more rhythmic type of rap, so if I had to rate how annoyed I was because of how monotonous this album was, listening to the whole thing, I would give it 1 star. The only reason why I don't feel so bad about it is because Spotify played "Sorry Ms Jackson" when the album was over and I jammed to it, so it distracted me a little bit. I know that this was an important album in the history of rap music, but it's not really my thing.
The Cure
2/5
Interesting in a way, maybe a lot better for just background listening, maybe for soundtrack type of stuff, but if you are doing something and have this in the back, it's alright.
Brian Eno
2/5
This is... an interesting album, it is just stuff happening but not necessarily in a good way most of the time. I understand that this is quite an old album, but it is not something that I would choose to have in the background. It's not too great, but some work has been put into it, yes.
Elton John
4/5
Very nice little album, enjoyed it and there were even some songs that I recognised. I can imagine how much people would've enjoyed this album 50 years ago, and it's still pretty bop-y.
Rufus Wainwright
2/5
That was an okay album, not too bad, and you can see how the author aged over the years in the Spotify profile picture things.
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
Very nice little chill album, enjoyed having it in the background while I was doing stuff early in the morning.
Supergrass
2/5
This album sounds like those generic rock music that all bands were releasing around the year 2000. I like bands that have their own distinctive sound and it could be that I haven't gotten use to listening to this band but it was overall a bit meh, nothing special.
AC/DC
4/5
Oh my gosh, yes! I was very excited about getting an album that I am perfectly familiar with, and that would be this album, among others of course. AC/DC was my favourite band when I was in high school but I still love jamming to their music and know pretty much all of their songs perfectly. I am very biased for this album.
Thelonious Monk
1/5
There are definitely faaaaar better jazz albums, and this sounded like it was just relatively monotonous bass in the background, and the saxophone (or whatever is being played by the other person) just going up and down without making very nice rhythm, and also some drums in the spare time. I understand that this is more than 65 years old, so it would have been cooler but nowadays it doesn't sound that great to me.
The Modern Lovers
2/5
Started off pretty decently, but then things became really bad whenever every single song sounded pretty much the exact same way - music in the background and just shouting (or talking) and overall wasn't a great experience. Normally I would rate this 1 star but because I had really low expectations in the beginning, the first 20 seconds didn't seem too disappointing.
Joan Armatrading
2/5
okay, pretty decent album, nothing too exciting but it was nice old-sounding having it in the background, so not too bad
Michael Jackson
5/5
I am surprised that so many hits (and also familiar songs) are only from this one album. Pretty amazing album, great jams, would recommend.
The Gun Club
1/5
Wow, the whole album was a guitar and drums doing the exact same thing throughout all of the songs and this guy singing in the foreground. You could say that it was very much out of tune but I am sure there was some weird tune that I couldn't catch properly. Anyway, this represents the average British band in the 80s and it is just... not very appealing.
Gang Of Four
2/5
I got basically the same album yesterday - a British rock band from the 80s (roughly) that has some guitar and drums in the background and someone talking stuff over them. This is one step further, which is why I have rated it one star more, as it is overall slightly more decent, but still pretty meh.
Metallica
4/5
Very nice experience. For some reason this is the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, but also live, and it would been an even better experience if this was recorded in a studio, but it's okay, I still jammed through those 2 hours and 13 minutes. Overall pretty good album.
Fela Kuti
3/5
I got excited when I saw that there were only 4 songs in the album, but it's pretty much the same length as a normal album, so that was pretty disappointing. Nice little jazz album, nothing too exciting, enjoyed having it in the background.
Green Day
4/5
Very nice album from back in the day, but half of the songs sounds like it is from a American Pie movie. That is not a bad thing, but it throws you back to what all songs sounded back then. I was a fan of slightly more "classical" type of rock at the time, but you can't deny the number of hits in this album. Although American Idiot has the most listens, I like Boulevard of Broken Dreams more.
Tom Waits
3/5
Nice little blues album, nothing too exciting, although the singing person sounded like he was trying to make his voice deeper and it sounded like he was straining it a lot, although I assume that it is not the case. It was not too bad, it was nice having this in the background.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
I don't know what to say about this album - it was a bit meh as an overall experience but at the same time it wasn't too bad just music-wise. I would say that it was a bit mid, nothing too exciting.
The Dandy Warhols
2/5
A lot of sounds and quite weird, sometimes even trippy, but I guess there is an audience for this album. Overall, didn't enjoy it that much, but instead had a neutral feeling about it, apart from the bits where it was just monotonous background music - then it was negative.
Willie Nelson
3/5
Relatively quick listen, as this is not a lengthy album. Enjoyed having this in the background. Willie Nelson is a legend, and I found his songs enjoyable, as they were chill.
The Notorious B.I.G.
3/5
I had to go to find a full playlist with all the songs on Youtube because half of the songs were unavailable on Spotify. I know that this is a great album for the ones who love that kind of older rap music but I haven't really liked that thing where they basically just talk. There is nothing catchy and I personally didn't enjoy it that much. I don't like the rap that is popular now either, but instead I like the more melodic one. Of course, there were some songs that were alright, and I think that Big Poppa is the most famous one.
Scott Walker
3/5
Nice, peaceful music. Enjoyed having this in the background. Nothing amazing, but it was okay.
Muddy Waters
4/5
This album was great for background listening. I enjoyed having this playing and I was also bopping my foot to it. The cool thing is that when the album ends (on Spotify), it continue playing similar music, which I enjoyed as well, but I think that you need to have Shuffle and Repeat off. Very nice.
The Police
3/5
Nice little album to have playing in the background. I only knew one of the songs in the album, but I bopped to this while cleaning the house.
The Smashing Pumpkins
2/5
First of all, this was 2 hours because it had 2 disks. Secondly, it sounded very generic and it was a bit meh. There were some interesting guitar solos here and there, but overall not very exciting.
Duke Ellington
3/5
I think that the first time of I heard of Duke Ellington was in Big Mouth where one of the characters is his ghost. This album is just 2 hours of jazz music from the 50s, so it is very old school but it's nice having this in the background.
The Who
3/5
This was a good album with a few very nice guitar solos, but because it is recorded live, it is pretty bad quality (not audio-wise). Overall, a bit meh.
Elis Regina
2/5
The overall vibes of this whole album was just artsy people who are also hipsters and use special homemade soap. It was overall alright having this in the background but a bit meh. The one song that was decent was O Trem Azul but the whole thing was also in Portuguese, so it's just meh.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Very nice and chill album. None of the songs were familiar but I still enjoyed the smooth jazzy vibes. I can only imagine how great this sounded more than 60 years ago (not sound-wise, but just music-wise).
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Really nice album, enjoyed jamming to it. You can imagine how people were listening to this back in the day.
Slipknot
1/5
I knew what this album would probably be like, and yet I was still positive about it... I thought that if I gave it another chance now, after having tried listening to Slipknot 15 years ago, things would be different because I enjoy greater range of music nowadays. Unfortunately, I still see that kind of music as way too intense for no reason, people are just screaming in your ear, it is not really enjoyable. There are some nice guitar bits here and there but not enough to deserve a second star. I like some metal but this is way too much, as I prefer (more relaxed) heavy rock. I think that this kind of music would be enjoyed by a 15-year old who is mad at the world for having to do their chemistry homework, although there are older people who listen to this, but I am not sure what they are mad at.. maybe their neighbour for squeaking with their bed at 4am. Overall though, I am not happy with this, I did not enjoy that it was an hour long, but I lowered the volume a bit, so I could get through the day. I guess it's alright if it's playing in the background quietly.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
First of all - '69... nice! I enjoyed listening to this album, the first song was a good choice and made me feel welcome. Although there were some meh songs, the ones that were really good very very enjoyable. Apart from the name the name of the band being a mouthful, my dad likes their music so got me into listening to that kind of old school rock. It was nice having this playing in the background while I was doing things.
Kanye West
2/5
The second song, Black Skinhead, has a nice relatively catchy tune, but the rest are a bit meh. Nothing really happens in the songs.
Sam Cooke
3/5
Actually a pretty nice album, very jazzy, enjoyable having this in the background, makes you want to tap your foot to the beat.
Common
3/5
This was an okay album, and every song sounded like it would playing during a cinematic shot of Las Vegas in a movie, or towards the end credits. I would say that it was maybe below average, but it was okay.
Talking Heads
3/5
That's the album with the "Psycho Killer" song, but I had no idea what the name of the band was. I would say that this is a bit of a meh album, nothing too exciting but not too bad either. It's alright for having it playing in the background.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Not really my type of music, and also not really my type of rap, but it was nice and chill, perfect for just having it in the background. I enjoyed some of the background tunes.
R.E.M.
3/5
I've heard of a few of these songs on the radio but had no idea they were theirs. Nice little album, nothing too exciting but pretty good. If there was a 3.5, I would give it that but 4 is usually for albums that I enjoyed quite a lot.
Michael Jackson
5/5
I am actually surprised that every single song from this album was a hit. As I knew all of the songs and enjoyed listening to them all, there is no other way - I have to give this album 5 stars. I really didn't want to as I am not really a huge Michael Jackson fan, but it's okay, it's a great album.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Overall a bit meh, although there were a few songs that were nice.
Haircut 100
3/5
Nothing too exciting, not too bad for background music. It has some nice saxophones in the back. Overall, a bit meh.
David Bowie
3/5
I know that David Bowie is great but this whole album was a bit mid - nothing too exciting, there were some filler songs. As I am rating the whole album, I am giving it a pretty meh rating, as there were a couple of songs that were good but not that great.
Joni Mitchell
2/5
This was nice as background music but not too great. There wasn't really happening in the songs but it is a very old album, so it's okay.
The Beach Boys
3/5
I had to listen to all songs twice because they were uploaded twice in the album - mono and stereo. Overall, nothing too exciting, nice little background listen, one familiar song and that's it.
Fela Kuti
3/5
At first I was sure that this was something from at least 40 years ago, but then Spotify said 2009, so I was very confused, but it's probably because the live recording is from that year. The album is indeed from 1971 and it's a nice little background listen. There are some moments when nothing exciting happens but it wasn't too bad overall.
Meat Loaf
3/5
I've only heard of one of the songs from this album, and although the rest weren't too amazing, it was a pretty decent listen. Very nice guitar towards the middle of one of the songs towards the end of the album but I didn't notice which one it was.
Scott Walker
3/5
Not too bad, slightly movie themed music with a lot of (actual real, musical) sound effects. I felt like in a fairy tale with some of them, and also as if I was in Tom&Jerry travelling with a train to another place. Overall, very nice background listen.
Randy Newman
3/5
This sounded very familiar and I was wondering why but it's because of the "You've Got a Friend in Me" song from Toy Story. Quite a nice album, nice having this in the background. I thought that I knew this way of singing because of a Family Guy sketch, and yes - that is correct as well.
Linkin Park
3/5
I know that Linkin Park is the light and acceptable version of all those super heavy metal bands, but they are sometimes a bit too harsh for me nowadays. I remember when I heard of In The End for the first time when I was in school, and I also really hard very heavy metal at some point, but then I grew out of it because it was very repetitive and didn't really have that much variety in the tune. This was nice, overall a bit meh but good.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Very peaceful album, nice and chill for background listening. Nothing too exciting nowadays but at least it's relaxing, so not too bad.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Nice little background listen. Definitely not super amazing to have as the main thing playing in your headphones while you're doing something, but having it on speakers on the side while you're working, for example, is nice. Very peaceful album, and the one song that I knew was "No Woman No Cry".
2/5
I like that this was a pretty short album. Pretty outdated album nowadays, it feels like, but I am sure that this was popular back in 1967. Wasn't too bad as a background listen though.
R.E.M.
3/5
Not too bad, but definitely not as good as the R.E.M. album that I got a couple of weeks ago. Overall, it is a nice album that is good as a background listen.
Nick Drake
2/5
The album was half the length of other ones that we've been getting, so I was very happy. This whole album was very chill, nothing really happened, it's like someone is sitting nearby and is just jamming in the woods (yes, you're in the woods as well, for this scenario). Nothing amazing, but pretty good as a background listen.
A Tribe Called Quest
2/5
Definitely a very mid album, nothing interesting happened. I started listening to this at 7am on a Monday and the first song was a baby crying, which was very annoying, so that was already a bad start. Then the people were just talking about stuff but I guess it was decent for a background listen if you are not really paying too much attention.
Stan Getz
3/5
I didn't expect this album to be very good but it was half the length of normal albums that we have been getting (so it was quicker to listen through), it was nice and jazzy, fairly quick tempo-y (made you want to shake it a bit), and all that - from a 1962 album.
Klaxons
4/5
I have to say that the first song in the album - Two Receivers, captured me with the harmonisation (multiple-people-at-different-tonations) because they were running around the octaves up and down and it was a very pleasant experience. I have to say that I was also very pleasantly surprised by how much they were running up and down the melody and because it was multiple people harmonising, the melody was extra pleasant . Overall, very happy with this, even though it was just another album with generic 90s rock band-ish sound, but they made it a lot better. This is from 2007 but if it was made 10 years earlier, they may have been a lot bigger. I was just confused by the last song - Four Horsemen of 2012, which was music in the beginning, absolutely nothing for the majority of the song and then some sounds towards the end, very weird but I assume that there is a backstory behind it since it is almost 20 minutes long.
Rahul Dev Burman
2/5
I had very low expectations for this album because of the album artwork and it also being from 1978, but I am sure this was a huge bop of an album when it came out because it sounds very interesting. Now, is it an absolutely great album - I don't really think so, but I just found it very intriguing for its time and the first half of the album sounds relatively nice.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
I have to say that this is not as good of an album as the previous Stevie Wonder one that we had on here. The last one that we got was an absolute bop whereas this one is slightly disappointing and it might be because this one was an earlier one. Overall, pretty nice though, not too bad, I enjoyed listening to it.
Nas
2/5
This album is from 1994 and this is when that music was popular, but nowadays this is very outdated. I have also moved away from rap music, as I have gotten older, and I don't think that it was very exciting to listen to. Quite meh but alright in the background, I guess. Nothing too exciting, just a bunch of yapping but I do understand that this was the rap music that was popular back then.
The Jam
2/5
So this started relatively promising but then ended up being an album that sounds pretty much the same throughout. Nothing too exciting but this was released in 1980 when it would've been pretty cool to hear.
Wild Beasts
2/5
Not too bad as a background listen, but when you actually focus on what is happening throughout the album, it feels very weird and not too satisfying listening to it. There are some good rhythms but overall a bit meh. It can definitely be worse though, so not too bad.
Nina Simone
3/5
Very nice album, enjoyable jazzy at times, it was great having this in the background. Things go a bit slowly but overall a pretty good album, especially for 1966.
Kanye West
3/5
That's not really my type of music, so I didn't really enjoy the album, but I know that people like it. I think that it's pretty mid overall. There are some background rhythms that sounds pretty nice, so it wasn't the worst album that I've been recommended here, for sure.
Miles Davis
3/5
A nice and simple album with 5 songs, but each was around 10 minutes long (apart from one that was 5 minutes). Overall, nice jazzy experience, so I am happy with this album. I would prefer to have this in the background, instead of actively listening to it, but it was nice.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
The album is a normal length but the songs are really short, even though this is from 1996. Also, some songs have a nice instrumental base part of the song but for some reason they've ruined them all with extra instrumental sounds and then the singing is a little bit weird at times, but overall not too bad, could definitely be worse.
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Not too bad, just a bit meh of an album. Nothing too exciting, but it's a decent album just for leaving in the background.
Brian Eno
2/5
I accidentally had the first song on loop for half an hour because I had "loop everything" on and thought I turned it off but I clicked it one extra time and it switched to "loop song". The album is not too bad, okay for background music but no real essence to the songs, so slightly meh. The ending of "Energy Fools the Magician" sounds a lot like what older movies had as intense music whenever someone was sneaking into a very well-protected area - either a quay with explosives that can blow up the whole of Florida, or a yacht where the key to the biggest safe is stored but everyone is asleep apart from guards with guns outside. Music just went bam bam and the singing people would just make sounds over there but because this is a British band that wanted to just shout things, you can't really understand anything.
Steely Dan
3/5
Actually not too bad, pretty decent album where only the first song (Do It Again) was pretty nice but the rest were a bit meh, although quite enjoyable to listen to, regardless. Overall, a pretty nice album, there were a couple of songs that were pretty nice, so I am not disappointed.
Little Richard
4/5
Very nice little album, pretty much every song made me want to do a little bum shake, so definitely got me a bit excited when listening to it. I am pretty happy with it, and there even were a few popular songs that I recognised. If this makes me want to a little dance nowadays, imagine what it was like in 1957. The automatic Spotify suggested songs after this album ended up being very shakey as well, so I continued enjoying that kind of music even after the album was over.
Neil Young
2/5
Nice little background jam, nothing too exciting. It was not bad but there definitely wasn't anything that made it stand out. Overall, pretty decent, especially for 1974.
Manu Chao
4/5
Actually a nice Latino music, very enjoyable and made me want to do little dance moves. Somehow they made all of their songs really melodic and also the switch from one song to another was absolutely flawless. I then continued listening to other recommended (by Spotify) songs and I jammed for another hour or so, very good stuff. I was a bit tired that day but this album made me feel very excited, but it also matters who you're with when you're listening to this.
Bob Dylan
3/5
I know that Bob Dylan was amazing back in the day, especially given that this was released in 1975, which is a year after AC/DC showed up, but nowadays I feel like I can't give his albums more than a 3. I enjoyed having this in the background but that's all.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I love Led Zeppelin and this album is very nice but because I only really like 3 of the songs from it (the rest are also good but they're not 5-star worthy), I am giving this whole thing a 4, as the best songs are really good and the other ones are nice when they're just playing in the background.
GZA
2/5
This is not really my type of music and although it is from 1995, I never really liked rap where they just talk, which used to be norm up until some point but I like the ones that have more rhythm and more things happening throughout.
2/5
Okay, this is a bit mid - it's great for having it in the background or playing it in a street art gallery that focuses on indie pieces of work, but if you really sit down and try to listen to only this, you might go crazy from the repetitiveness and eeriness sometimes. Art gallery background - 5 stars; actually listening to it properly - 2 stars.
Julian Cope
2/5
First of all, WOW! In a bad way - this was over 2 hours long with two Discs and took forever to go through, as it was also painfully annoying at times. The reason why I am giving the album such a high rating is because of this one song - Safesrufer, that gave off good vibes during the guitar solo but then the dude started singing again. Basically, if you were to listen to the instrumental only, you would rate this 3-4 stars, but because there is singing involved, which ruins the whole vibes, this is getting only 2. It would be 1 but this one song was alright. "If You Loved Me At All" was a song that you could only (maybe) enjoy while on drugs, but I guess there is a market for this kind of music, it's just not my kind of music.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
I have to say that I am extremely disappointed when I saw that this is more than 3 hours, as it has 6 Disks (!!!), but it's alright, not too bad. It is very outdated because this is from 1959 but it's a nice relatively jazzy (sometimes) background listen, so if you don't want to listen or watch anything else while you're doing stuff throughout your day, this is an okay album.
Billy Joel
4/5
This is a very nice Billy Joel album. I like a couple of his songs but this was a nice listen, even though it was released 47 years ago. I like that it was a short album, so it was a quick listen, although I wouldn't mind a few more songs on there, as we have had 3-hour albums that have been worse than this.
Dirty Projectors
3/5
Nothing too exciting, but not bad either. The album was alright, nothing really happened but we have had far worse ones, so I would say this goes somewhere in the middle.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Very nice and fresh album, although it is not as exciting as I thought it would, but it was still pretty good. There were some very slow tracks, but there were also some great bops. I never knew that Gangsta's Paradise was sampled from Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise, 19 years later.
The Who
3/5
Keeping in mind that this album is from 1965, it is slightly outdated because of the crazy rock stuff that came out 10-20 years later, but it is overall quite nice. I enjoyed it but I would say that it was definitely better listening to this back in the day than now.
Grateful Dead
3/5
Okay, this wasn't tool bad in the beginning but then later on towards the end of the album started slacking quite a lot. This was probably cool in 1970 but now is quite outdated.
Dire Straits
4/5
Very nice little album. I really like Money For Nothing from back in the day whenever I listened to it when I was young, but there were a few other popular songs as well, which I was surprised to see in one album. The rest of the songs sounded relatively familiar, but I think it's just the "Dire Straits sound". I enjoyed listening to all the songs in the background, very good stuff.
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Great album, so many popular songs, and it's not like you can party with it, but it's just an enjoyable album to listen to.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
I really like Led Zeppelin and the thing is that although pretty much all of their songs are nice, the majority are pretty meh, especially compared to the really great several hits that they have. There is one song that is really good in this album, and also 2-3 ones that are half good, and because I am rating this whole album, I have to give it a mid rating, unlike this one Led Zeppeling album that I rated, which had a few really good songs.
The Cars
3/5
Nice album, especially for something that you leave playing in the background. Overall, not too bad but nothing really exciting happened, apart from one cool instrumental moment in the Moving in Stereo song, but that was it.
Carole King
3/5
Nice little background music. I wish I could give a rating out of 10, or even halves up to 5, so that I could give the better meh albums a 3.5 and the worse meh albums - a 2.5, but I can only rate in full numbers, so this is more of an okay album that is nice playing on the side and not really something main to concentrate on, although it is not too bad.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Not a bad background listen, although nothing too exciting happened. Pretty melodic and consistent.
Pere Ubu
1/5
I don't know what to say about this album. I was thinking of giving this a 2-star rating because I was thinking that the singing absolutely ruins everything that is happening, but then I realised that the instrumental is mostly not that great either - everything is a complete mess. I don't know what purpose this music serves because usually when an album is relatively bad, it is still decent for background listening. This is annoying playing in the background even, but the good thing is that there are only 10 songs and the whole length of the album is 35 minutes. I wish we could have skipped this album in the first place, but now we were blessed with this "wonderful" 1-star experience.
OutKast
2/5
Overalll, not too bad but I am not really into that kind of rap music, although that was popular at around that time. I was disappointed that the album was 2+ hours and had 2 Discs but I had it playing in the background. Then things turned into jazz at some point and after that - just weird stuff, where you weren't even sure what you were listening to anymore. The weird stuff was better than the beginning of the album, and the whole thing was decent while playing in the background, but overall a bit meh.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
This was not too bad, pretty nice album for a background listen. I would say that nowadays it is a bit okay-ish, and given that this came out right as AC/DC were formed, you can tell that times were simpler back then.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Very nice little album, great guitar work on most of the songs. I haven't heard of any of the songs, and the one that I had - Changes, I didn't know that it was theirs. I can't really give this album 3 stars because it is good, but at the same time, I wish there were middle ratings, so this would be 3.5 and other slightly better albums would go for 4.
Iggy Pop
2/5
I had high hopes for this album because Iggy Pop has some pretty good hits from back in the day, but this album was very disappointing. Nothing really exciting happened and on top of everything it ended with a really bad song and that just brought my idea of the album really low. I feel like you can't really enjoy this unless you're on drugs, really don't care about music or are an Iggy Pop fan.
Destiny's Child
4/5
Actually a nice diversion from the otherwise very bad or old albums. This is an absolute materpiece of an album compared to what I sometimes get. I jammed to pretty much every song and I knew quite a lot of them. The thing here is that it's not really ABSOLUTELY amazing but it's pretty good on its own. I would give it 3.5 stars but I can't give halves, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt for getting me to bop to most of the songs.
DJ Shadow
1/5
That's the first DJ album that I've seen in here and I really expected some (at least) decent performance. Unfortunately, it is another one of those albums where you have to be on drugs to actually enjoy it. It was definitely too much and definitely less than meh.
Adele
4/5
The album started with a 5-star track, had another one in the middle and another one in the end, but the rest were 3.5 and 4-star songs. I hadn't listened to Adele's full albums, but singing-wise - incredible. Overall enjoyability, pretty good and because I am rating the full album, I am bringing the rating down slightly.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I really like Led Zeppelin, but some of their songs in their albums are a bit meh. I absolutely love a few songs from each album, but because I am rating the whole album, I can't really give it 5 stars because it would have to be absolutely perfect, whereas some songs feel a bit meh compared to the major hits.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
3/5
Not a bad album, it was alright having this in the background while I was doing stuff. It was a slower version of a Beach Boys album. I understand that this was released 55 years ago, so this was enjoyable back then. Nowadays, it's a bit meh.
The White Stripes
3/5
Not too bad of an album, there were a couple of pretty okay songs but none that were absolutely amazing. I would say that this particular album was a bit mid, but maybe a bit more towards a 3,5-star rating.
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Okay, so I got another Amy Winehouse album a while ago and it was beautiful. This one is a bit more mid-tier. Nothing too exciting, it's okay to play in the background though. It is one of the few post-2000 albums that we get on here but it is a little bit not too exciting.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
This album is immediately set for failure because of the first song, which was definitely a 1-star track, and it was also way too long (7 minutes). Then the songs were 1.5-star ones, so nothing too special, but because there were a couple of decent-sounding track (the majority just being repetitively annoying where nothing happens) I would rate this 2 stars, and I am very generous.
Prince
3/5
Pretty okay album, with Purple Rain being the only song that I knew. Nothing too exciting, although I know that this was pretty amazing-sounding for back in the day. I would say that overall the album is a bit meh, which is why I am giving it a lower rating, but I would give it 3,5 stars if I could give halves.
Tom Waits
2/5
Tom Waits but it doesn't sound like he waits for anything - he just very aggressively started the album with a bunch of stomping and shouting. Overall, I guess the album wasn't terrible, although there were songs that definitely were. I was very confused as to what kind of an album this is and on top of everything, two songs were unavailable on Spotify so I had to go and listen to them on Youtube - I would not recommend bothering. This could have definitely been a 1-star album but there were a couple of songs that could be deemed decent, I guess.
Lou Reed
2/5
Okay, so there are some weird songs, but a few other ones are pretty decent, so that slightly makes up those unenjoyable minutes and this is why I have decided to rate this slightly higher.
Blur
3/5
Blur's Song 2 was recorded as a joke but it ended up being their greatest hit. The rest of the songs on the album are a bit meh, nothing too exciting but not too bad either.
Duran Duran
3/5
Not too bad of an album but not that great either. I have always heard the name Duran Duran from my dad but it has always been a part of the joke about why it's repeated twice - well, so that we can remember it easier. I have never actually heard their music on purpose but I have heard of Hunry Like The Wolf on the radio, which is not a bad track. I would say that it is a pretty decent album and it would have been nice back when it came out.
Willie Nelson
3/5
This was a nice and short album, but it was a bit too meh because nothing exciting really happened. Of course, Willie Nelson is a legend but I like it when things are a bit more dynamic.
The Verve
3/5
Overall, the album was a bit meh, apart from the one song that is their (I think) only popular song, which also had over a billion stream on Spotify - Bitter Sweet Symphony. That one song is a great jam and boosts the rating of the whole album slightly. Nothing too exciting overall and nice just having it in the background, as it is relatively chill.
50 Cent
3/5
Okay, so I used to listen to this album and similar ones when I was in elementary school, or at least to the two popular songs from this album, which seem to have around a billion listens on Spotify, and maybe one or two other ones that have a nice rhythm. Nowadays, most of the songs from the album seem very meh and nothing too exciting, but I guess it's a classic now.
Beatles
3/5
Okay, so listen. This is their third album, but it just sounds a bit meh, apart from maybe the first song. This album just sounds very generic from around that time, and I just can't give it a higher score because if this was another band with similar songs, I would've leaned more towards 2, whereas now I lean more towards 4.
David Bowie
3/5
Okay, so David Bowie has had some great songs throughout the years but as his last album from not that long ago, I didn't think it was THAT amazing. I am rating it solely by itself and completely disregarding all precious tracks of his. The first track was very disappointing and brought my whole rating down to 1 star, but then things pushed things a bit. Nothing too exciting, but it is supposed to be a slower album.
Pavement
2/5
I don't think that this album was that great, it was at most very mid, nothing really happened, but I guess it was alright for a background listen, and it was also nice that it was a fairly short one, so it went by relatively quickly. I would give it three stars but it didn't catch my excitement from the beginning.
The Electric Prunes
2/5
I would say that this sounded like an average album from around this time. This is before things got a bit more interesting with AC/DC showing up 7 years later. Still, not too bad and okay as a background listen.
Gotan Project
3/5
Actually a pretty nice album. I had a very low expectation for this and so I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty mid still, but nice tango-ey vibes, definitely a great listen if you just leave it in the background.
Eagles
3/5
Very nice album, I would say 3,5 stars but because we can't do halves, we will have to round it down a bit, because most of the songs were nice but there was only one that was really good. I enjoyed listening to it.
CHIC
2/5
Not too bad of an album, enjoyed having this in the background, although at some point the songs would just be the exact the same 5 seconds but repeated over and over again (a great example being the last bit of Le Freak). Pretty decent, enjoyed it a bit.
Nick Drake
2/5
Not a bad playlist, it was alright having this on the side and it went by pretty quickly. I am happy with the overall vibes, although realistically nothing too exciting.
Eminem
4/5
I am surprised how many songs that I like from back in the day are in this one album. I enjoyed jamming to this and the majority of the songs in this album were familiar and great jams.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Very nice album, enjoyed listening to this, it was pretty good although there was only one major hit in there. Having this in the background was nice.
The Black Keys
3/5
I couldn't listen to the second disc because it was unavailable on Spotify and I couldn't be bothered going to youtube just for the live versions of songs. I am surprised with how good this album was and I enjoyed listening to it in the background. I wish we could give half-star ratings, so this would be 3.5 and not just a mid album, but it's not really a 4.
Radiohead
2/5
Not too bad of an album but I thought that it would be slightly better and I also thought that there would more popular songs but these ones were a bit meh.
Joni Mitchell
2/5
I think that I wasn't in an understanding mood when I was listening to this album because I hated the higher pitched bits, and I have listened to Joni Mitchell before, but this set of songs was just too much. I would not rate this super low because I know that normally it would not have been like that but I did not have a good time.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Not too bad of an album, and it even has "Like a Rolling Stone", which was exciting. As this was released almost 60 years ago (wow), it lacks these exciting sounds that the music industry added, even 10 years after this coming out, and so it feels like nothing really exciting is happening and he's just talking while some tune is playing in the background. Pretty nice album though.
The Specials
2/5
The majority of the songs from this album are a bit meh, nothing too exciting, and then there are a couple that are pretty okay-ish. I do understand that this was released 25 years ago but nowadays it is mostly outdated, so I'm giving it a mid-ish rating of 2,5 stars but because we can't give halves - I'm rounding it down.
Talking Heads
2/5
Okay, so there are some intriguing songs but the overall vibes of the album are just a bit too weird and there's a lot of repetition. Not too bad as a background listen but not too great.
ZZ Top
4/5
Very nice album, great collection of songs, epic guitar solos and also just background appearance. I like ZZ Top and had heard of a couple of songs but that was it.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
This was an okay album, nothing too exciting but I had it in the background and it was alright. It is a pretty outdated album, so the tunes are quite old-school but not too bad.
Joanna Newsom
2/5
I opened the album on Spotify yesterday and now it's gone. I am not sure why it loaded yesterday because Joanna Newsom hasn't had her music on Spotify for a long time but I am just confused as to why it loaded yesterday. I listened to the album on Youtube but overall, it wasn't too exciting. Nothing too great happened and just overall a bit meh. It alright as a background listen though. It was released in 2006 but it had this Broadway vibe but the old-school early 2000s vibe.
Sugar
3/5
Pretty alright of an album, nothing really exciting, just some generic tunes although given that this is from more than 30 years ago, it would've sounded pretty cool back then. I would say pretty meh nowadays though.
Prince
3/5
This was an alright album. I know that it is Prince but it was mainly enjoyable as a background listen and wasn't too exciting to properly focus on the songs. A bit mid nowadays, 42 years later but as we all know, 42 is the meaning of life, so I'll just rate this somewhere in the middle.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Not a bad album, they knew that "Son Of A Preacher Man" would be such a good hit that they even put it twice in here. Pretty enjoyable, especially for a background listen, but slightly meh nowadays, as this is over 50 years old now. Overall, I did enjoy the vibes though, and I am sure people absolutely bopped to it back in the day.
TV On The Radio
2/5
I expected a bit more from a band that is named "TV on the Radio" but it was a bit meh, although nothing too annoying as a background listen. I would say that it was decent but nothing really happened throughout the whole album, it was just a bunch of stuff going on every now and then.
The Triffids
3/5
Actually not a bad album, and not even that long, which was great. Half of the album was Disc 1, which was the proper album, but then there was Disc 2, which was just the same thing but the Rehearsal Demo version of each song. Would I have been happier without the Rehearsal Demos in there - yes, but I listened to it anyway, just so I can complain about it without feeling guilty that I haven't even listened to it but I was hating on it. Well, I listened to everything and I am hating on how long the whole thing became.
Liz Phair
2/5
Not a bad album, but pretty non-exciting. There was a bunch of meh throughout, although if this was during the 90s, people would be jamming to it, and still, I feel like they would have jammed more to other things but it's okay. It was fine just playing in the background, and it was quite annoying that three songs towards the end of the album weren't available on Spotify, so I had to go and find them manually. Not that they were worth it but it just made things more tedious, as this album was longer than an hour. There were some okay songs but there were other ones where nothing happened and it was a whole drag, and it was just not great.
George Harrison
2/5
I can't believe that we had to listen to a 2-hour album, but we are finally done. There was one song that was popular - My Sweet Lord, and the rest were half alright jams for background listening and half just meh songs. They all seem to have quite a lot of listens on Spotify, so the album definitely has fans but it was just overall a bit meh.
Santana
4/5
Great album, a couple of the songs were very familiar and the rest were just jams. The whole thing was instrumental, so nothing too exciting, but it all sounded great. Carlos Santana has this unique sund and you cal tell that it's his guitar playing. I liked that it was a quick listen, we got through the songs fairly quickly and that was it.
Anthrax
2/5
I used to llisten this kind of music when I was younger but this is just a bunch of sounds and shouting. I don't like my music being as rough, although there seems to be melody in the basis of what is happening.
Guns N' Roses
5/5
Great album, that is something that I really enjoyed. I knew half of the songs, which I was surprised by, because I was a big fan of Guns N' Roses' music when I was younger. I still enjoy their greatest hits and clearly also enjoyed their not-so-greatest hits. I would say that out of all of the albums that I have gotten on here, this one might be overall the best one, as the other albums are either super weird or not all of the songs are 5-star worthy ones.
The United States Of America
2/5
This album gave me a very patriotic first impression but then it was just awfully out-of-tune sounds in the beginning of the first song (very much like the current state of that country right now, or in the past several years, the main issue being clown being leaders in this whole thing). Then the songs became relatively alright, but were very weird, sometimes circus-sounding (which again - perfectly matching the name) and then things turned a bit chill, it was all over the place. Overall, not too bad, I am sure people on drugs would mainly enjoy this in the late 60s and early 70s before more intense music started getting released.
The Band
4/5
Actually not a bad album, it was pretty nice as a background listen. I have to be honest - the album artwork did not make me feel very confident about this whole experience but the music was actually pretty good. I would say maybe 3.5 stars but sure, let's round it up to 4.
Pearl Jam
3/5
Pretty nice album. Pearl Jam's vocalist has this interesting sounding voice, so most of the songs are pretty obviously by him. I am happy with this album, there were two song that were quite popular - Everflow and Jeremy (that I've heard on the radio at some point), and the rest were alright.
Throwing Muses
3/5
Not a bad album, although it took forever to go through all of the songs, especially as there was a second Disc with "Doghouse Cassette Versions" of the songs. This album was a nice background listen, nothing too exciting but it was relatively enjoyable.
Dinosaur Jr.
2/5
Somehow this album felt really long, even though it was a relatively short one and it just kept on going and going (unless I maybe looped it but I didn't realise when the songs changed as they all sounded very similar). The whole album had a little bit of a generic 90s feeling and given that it came out in 1988, it was probably slightly ahead of its time. Nothing too exciting, I guess it was also for a background listen, but pretty meh nowadays. The song "Don't" though, which is second to last in the album... crazily bad, actually just screaming into the microphone, and although the instrumentals were alright, it's like getting a free ice cream after someone beats the shizzle out of you. That dropped my rating significantly because it wasn't a normal length but 5 minutes and 41 seconds. Yes, I could have skipped it but what kind of a reviewer would I be...
3/5
I know that Bob Dylan was great and influential but his music mostly feels a bit outdated nowadays. It's still good but I just feel like it was shadowed by more melodic. I enjoy "Like a Rolling Stone" but the majority of the songs from this album just felt a bit meh.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Pretty decent album, nothing too exciting but I can see people enjoying this pre-2000s. It was alright for a background listen but I feel like it'll be a little bit too meh if you properly focus on it.
Metallica
4/5
Great album, Battery and Master of Puppets are wonderful songs but the rest are a bit mid, compared to these two. It was overall a very nice experience listening to everything and it was almost a full hour although there were only eight songs. I would give this 5 stars if all songs were at the Battery/Master of Puppets level but I give it high 4 for now.
Eels
3/5
The whole album being introduced with "Life is hard, and so am I" was great, it really set the standard really high. Overall, it was a nice album to listen to in the background while you're doing something else. Definitely more thought has gone into these songs than some of the other albums that we get on here. The album artwork is a bit weird but that's okay.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
I kept listening and listening to this (not on loop) and I was still only on the first song, but it turns out that it is 20 minutes long. The instrumentals are really good, but the vocals are a bit meh. I would say that the overall experience would be a bit mid, but that's okay, that's still better than what some albums offered.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Actually a pretty nice album, the songs were good and I enjoyed having this in the background. This album was released fairly recently but it would've been a great listen back in the day. Nowadays, I feel like it might be a bit outdated but I am sure there would still be people who would enjoy while chilling.
Stan Getz
3/5
That was an okay album, it was just jazziness for less than an hour, so it was nice. Nothing too exciting, great for background music, so I would say that it was good overall.
Pretenders
2/5
To be honest, they were Pretending to be a good band. I would say that this was a pretty mid album - it was alright to just have somewhere in the background but pffff, if you were to listen to this as your main activity, then you would likely just get annoyed and move on to something more stimulating. Overall, meh.
The Go-Betweens
3/5
Actually not too bad, pretty melodic. That would've been pretty nice to listen to back in the day, as it is pretty chill.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Pretty decent, I only knew one song. I assume that this was a great album back in the day, but nowadays I feel like Leonard Cohen is just speaking, although he does have some pretty melodic songs. Overall, not too bad and it was a decent album.
The Temptations
3/5
Actually, a really nice album. The songs weren't popular but were very melodic, so they were enjoyable to listen to. The main person always had something to yap about and the background people were repeating things, but it's okay, good album overall.
Jimmy Smith
3/5
Very nice album, enjoyed listening to it. It seems that it's a pretty old one but it was nice and jazzy. I like that there weren't too many songs and it was a quick listen.
Wu-Tang Clan
2/5
Okay, so I know how influential the Wu-Tang Clan was back in the day but I enjoyed the more melodic kind of rap from several years later because it was more of a song and this was more of a recording of people talking. Yes, this had music in the background but it wasn't really my type of rap.
M.I.A.
3/5
Paper Planes is singlehandedly carrying this whole album because although the rest of the songs were intriguing, they weren't that great. Listening to this album was a bit weird, the fourth song is just annoying and is not available, but apart from that, the rest of the songs just sounded like they would belong in a movie soundtrack while something intense is happening, possibly when people are on drugs and trying to do something in a crowded area.
Turbonegro
4/5
I was really skeptical as soon as I heard the beginning of the first song of the album, and also this being from before the year 2000 (even slightly before that), I didn't have a lot of hope for the whole album, but I was bopping to the music by the third song. The fourth song's chore caught me off-guard and I had to double-check the name of the song just to see if I wasn't hearing things wrong. Overall, pretty nice album, and I am sad that I can't rate things out of 10, as this deserves a higher rating, but not necessarily a 4, but it is getting it because it is definitely not 3, but the instrumentals are great, the singing is alright.
Van Halen
4/5
I knew that Van Halen were great but I only knew a few songs. This album was pretty nice, and given that this came out in 1978, people must've gone crazy listening to it, and even at live concerts. Great instrumentals, singing is good and overall very boppy music.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Very nice album, I wish I could rate it with 3.5 stars because it is not really 4 but I have given other really meh ones 3 stars, so I will be generous today.
Radiohead
3/5
Pretty nice album, enjoyed a couple of the songs, one even sounded familiar (No Surprises) and the Exit Music one was very intense but not in a bad way. Overall, pretty alright stuff.
Giant Sand
3/5
Not too bad, it was alright having the album play in the background. There wasn't anything too exciting but it was somewhat enjoyable. Nice little rhythmic music.
Sex Pistols
2/5
I know that Sex Pistols were huge 50 years ago but I've never been a huge fan of that kind of music that sounds slightly generic and the songs sound very similar. It was alright having this album playing in the background, and it was a fairly short one, but I wouldn't listen to it on purpose.
The Pogues
3/5
The Pogues sound very Irish but also very farm-y, possibly because of the banjo, and judging from the album artwork, they have tons of members. This is what you hear when you enter a pub very late at night and everyone is shouting. When you listen to the main singer, you don't really imagine him looking like that, especially looking at the rest of the band members, but I think that he is the most popular one. I am actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this whole album, and you can also tell which song is the most popular one, as it has 400 times more plays than the rest.
Radiohead
2/5
Not a bad album, but I was confused as to what genre they stuck with, as there was some white noise in there, there were some church songs and also some normal songs, but I don't know.. it wasn't too bad, but just overall a bit meh. Nothing too exciting happened throughout the whole album.
Beastie Boys
2/5
I had no idea that Beastie Boys sounded like that, for some reason I kept thinking that they have some Beach Boys vibes, but this is some 1989 rap where they mainly just talk, which I am not a huge fan of, but I know that a lot of people really enjoy. I would say that it was a bit meh, as the whole album seems like one long song when you're not really paying attention to it.
2Pac
3/5
This was an alright album. I am not a huge fan of the rap songs where they just talk and there isn't really enough melody, but compared to a Beastie Boys album that I got yesterday, this is a lot better. I would say that it is a bit mid, although I know that 2Pac was massive during that time but I was a fan of the things back then.
Various Artists
4/5
So, this is a nice little Christmas Compilation Album. It appeared just in time for Christmas (on Christmas day, so I assume it was rigged) and had quite a lot of popular songs. Overall, I had a pretty good experience with this album, which just had songs by different artists.
Massive Attack
2/5
Having this album play in the background while you're just.. existing, is not too bad, maybe a bit meh because nothing really happens, but if you were to actively listen to this - it is definitely too much of the same thing over and over again. So 3 stars for passive listening and 2 stars for active listening.
David Bowie
3/5
This was an okay album, nothing too exciting, it was good as a background listen but a little bit too meh for a direct listen.
Ramones
3/5
Not too bad, it's an alright album that has this overall similar sound throughout and all of the songs sound somewhat alike, especially the overall main guitar vibe. Listening to it in the background is fine, especially given how short it is.
The Human League
2/5
It's an okay album, nothing really too great, it sounds like a not as enthusiastic Depeche Mode. The songs were a bit meh.
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Pretty meh of an album, nothing caught my attention and even their most played song was nothing exciting.
Animal Collective
2/5
This album felt a bit tedious because all of the songs are 4-5 minutes long, and they are all relatively similar. They are not bad if you just play them in the background while you're doing something, but it gets a bit tedious when paying attention to them. Overall, a bit meh.
Jurassic 5
3/5
When I opened this album in Spotify, I got a notification that it was released 23 years ago on this day and got some balloons flying up, but only managed to pop one. The songs are that kind of rap where there isn't too much melody and instead they just talk, which I am not a huge fan of, but it's overall not too bad, it could definitely be worse. The one song that I somewhat enjoyed was What's Golden, but it seems that this is their most popular song, as it has 5-6 times more listens than most of the songs.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Overall, this album is not too bad of a background listen as it is melodic and not invasive. Nothing too exciting though, apart from California Dreaming, which has over a billion listens on Spotify, whereas most of the other songs have a couple of million.
The Kinks
3/5
I was surprised at how catchy the first third of the songs in the album were, but then they started getting very generic. Overall, it was an okay album and it would have been even cooler-sounding back in the late 60s when it came out.
Lucinda Williams
2/5
This was an alright background listen, the album was not too bad but nothing too exciting as well. I think that it had a bit of an outdated sound, given that it came out in 1998, so I thought that maybe Lucinda Williams would have been popular 20-30 years prior to that, but it's actually this album that was her breakthrough.
Ravi Shankar
2/5
Yes, there are only five songs, which excited me a lot at first, but that means that you get a lot more of those last four extremely long tracks, because the overall length is of a normal album. There is some sort of a tutorial in the first 4-minute song and then after that, he just parties with that instrument. Overall, pretty alright as a background listen but definitely not too easy focusing on it throughout, and yet slightly interesting though.
Louis Prima
3/5
Not a bad album, nice and jazzy, and the first song was quite popular, despite it telling you a story about a gigolo. Overall, pretty nice vibes and the songs were relatively different, unlike some other albums where you couldn't tell the difference between all the songs.
Beatles
4/5
This is one of the most popular albums of relatively modern time and it has some jams that hold up even to this day, especially the artwork. I would say that there are some songs that are a bit meh but overall everything sounds great, especially when you leave it as a background listen. I did enjoy the few very popular songs.
Lana Del Rey
2/5
This is an alright background listen, but very depressing as your main listen. The album was decent, nothing too exciting, Lana was overall clearly very upset when writing this, and it's a bit meh.
Finley Quaye
2/5
Not too bad, it was a good background listen but nothing too exciting.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
3/5
Actually, that was a pretty decent album. I expected it to be meh, but it was actually not too bad. It was melodic and a bit rock-y, so I assume it was great until maybe the AC/DC days a year later.
Muddy Waters
4/5
Great album, I jammed to pretty much every song in it and there were a lot of familiar ones as well. I know that people were jamming to this tons back in the 60s.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
This is an alright album where the "Somebody to Love" song is their most popular one but "White Rabbit" sounds very similar and somehow has more listens but doesn't have that part that is really cool. Overall, not too bad, it was fine as a background listen.
Adele
4/5
Pretty nice album, there are a lot of popular hits, Adele's voice is great and this is great not only for background listening but also for actually paying attention to the music. Overall, pretty great.
Jeff Buckley
3/5
This is a good album, some of the songs are pretty nice, and it's great for a background listen. Also, a pretty good Hallelujah performance, which is the song with the most listens in this album.
Neneh Cherry
2/5
Not really my type of rap but I'm sure it did well when it came out. I like more melodic things. It was alright having it in the background but definitely more meh than okay.
Talking Heads
3/5
This is an alright album for just having it playing in the background but definitely not too great for proper listening. Nothing really happened in the songs, it was a bit meh, but given that it came out in 1978, it was probably cool back then.
Metallica
4/5
Ah, this might be the best Metallica album out there. It has a few of their hits and I have jammed to these songs numerous times throughout the years. I would definitely recommend this and I really enjoyed listening to the whole album. I would give this 5 stars but there are a few songs that bring it down by half a star and because we round things down, otherwise the rating would always be 4 for the albums that we get here - this is a 4-star album, but in reality, it is almost perfect for me - at 4,5.
John Martyn
2/5
Not a bad album, but it was just a bit meh, so although it was fine having it in the background, it would be a bit too much if you properly concentrated on it.
Astrud Gilberto
2/5
This is an okay jazz-y album, a bit slow and very similar-sounding throughout, but there were a couple of nice jams. It is definitely alright as a background listen.
Pixies
3/5
The album artwork is probably the best part of this album, because the music is mostly just meh. There are some things happening and you could manage listening to the whole thing if you just leave it playing in the background but overall nothing really exciting, at times even irritatingly repetitive.
The one okay song, as I went "oh, that sounds alright, OH, and it sounds familiar as well", is "Where is my mind?" and it has a billion listens, so this is the one that is alright, the rest are definitely meh at best.
In the Gigantic song, they sing "A big, big love" towards the end, repetitively, and I just kept hearing "A pp love", which.. slightly disappointed after I looked up what it actually is.
Queen
5/5
That was a wonderful album, I definitely jammed through Bohemian Rhapsody and I knew a few other songs but I was surprised to hear the majority of the songs for the first time and they sounded wonderful. If this is not a 5-star album, I don't know who to give 5 stars to, so my 4.75 stars are getting upgraded to 5 stars.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
This is a nice and relaxed album, you can leave it in the background and it's just chill, despite having "noise" in the name. It sounds alright, nothing specifically good but it does have quite a lot of listens on pretty much all songs, so people like jamming to it probably.
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Not too bad, the album had an okay background vibe, it wasn't very invasive. I thought it would be more psychedelic, given the name of the band, but I am happy that it was not a crazy album like some of the ones we've gotten in the past.
XTC
3/5
Actually, that wasn't a bad album, in fact it was pretty good, possibly even enjoyable at times. I would definitely recommend this for background listening but if you are listening to this on your headphones while walking on the street, it would be a bit meh. Also, this definitely doesn't feel like a 1986 album, but instead like something from this century. The last song "Dear God" was the best one and it definitely improved my experience and rating because they left me with that song in mind, and it also has the most listens on Spotify, which I hadn't noticed until I started enjoying it a bit too much.
The Cramps
2/5
This was a little bit of a weird album. Their "The Mad Daddy" song sounded "The Bird is the Word" song but it wasn't it, which was a bit disappointing. But then so did "Zombie Dance" and even more - "Tear It Up", so I guess that's just their style, but I checked the it was "The Trashmen" that released the bird song. Nothing too exciting throughout, we survived listening to all the songs but overall a bit meh.
Pink Floyd
4/5
What an album - 5 songs but almost 45 minutes, and it was such an adventure listening to all NINE parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I think that this album is great, but it's not for all occasions - you can't really listen to it and party, it's more for when you're in a relaxed mood and want to have this playing in the background.
Van Halen
3/5
Nice little Van Helen album, there were two songs that were familiar, but overall I would say that I feel like it is a bit meh nowadays. I am giving it 3.5 stars, so I am rounding it down to 3.
Ministry
2/5
This was way harsher for my taste, as although I appreciate a nice Metal jam, I like the melodic ones better than just the complete mash of everything in one place. I would say that the album was decent at times, but overall very meh.
Scritti Politti
3/5
This was an alright album, nothing too exciting, a bit mid but overall could definitely be better.
Barry Adamson
2/5
This is a very confusing album, it doesn't have really good songs but they're decent for just leaving them playing in the background while you're doing something. The whole thing felt like a movie soundtrack because there were all these sounds and they weren't really going anywhere. It wasn't necessarily bad but just a bit confusing. There was a bit of piano and a bit of saxophone at times, which made things a bit better, but that's pretty much it.
T. Rex
4/5
Very nice album, cool and vibey and my favourite songs were Lean Woman Blues, which had a great guitar solo at the end, but the song that I've jammed to the most is Get It On, and you can tell that it is the most popular one because of the hundreds of millions of listens more, compared to the other songs. Overall, great album.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Nice littlle album, recorded in a prison. The whole album has Fallout (the game) vibes because they use that kind of music from around that time. The album is live and there seem too be quite a lot of people, and they seem too enjoy it quite a lot, so that's great.
Rod Stewart
3/5
Just the usual Rod Stewart-sounding album, they are all very similar, I pretty much didn't understand a single word he said, but it's okay. Overall, pretty alright album to have chilling in the background, it has a good 70s sound.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Google Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and Dazed and Confused, maybe even Communication Breakdown, are huge jams that I've bopped to when I was younger and they sound almost as good nowadays. Overall, great album, has a few huge hits but definitely not as popular as the fourth Led Zeppelin album.
Talk Talk
3/5
This was a pretty alright album, nothing too exciting, just average 80s vibes. It was nice having in the background, but it was a bit meh.
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Pretty nice album, a little bit blues-y at times, very enjoyable as a background listen, maybe a bit too repetitive if it's your main listen. Enjoyed listening to the album, it was nice.
Janis Joplin
4/5
Great album, the vibes reminded me of when my parents would take me to gatherings with family friends and they would listen to that kind of music. This was a nice album to have in the background, the only song missing was Piece of My Heart but it's okay, it was still great.
This was an alright album, nothing too exciting, only one song that was popular, and just the generic U2 sound throughout. I would say that it was a bit meh after a while but it's overall not too bad.
Slayer
2/5
There are some moments when parts of some songs in this album sound fairly nice but the majority of it is just a complete nightmare. I would not recommend listening to this while trying to focus or working on something that is really slow (my work computer was a great example of this), as the songs are very high tempo, so writing this was great because nothing was freezing and I was very fast, but replying to a work email on my work computer was so annoying because I would start typing and Outlook would freeze and the song would just keep going and basically nudge you to continue. Overall, a bit meh and pretty much all songs sounded very similar.
Beatles
4/5
Compared to all the other Beatles albums that we've had, this one seems to only have only a couple of popular songs but the rest also sounded pretty nice. If they sounds alright nowadays, imagine how cool they would've been back in the day and since the rest of the music from that time was quite boring, this must've been amazing.
The Smiths
3/5
This is an alright album that you may hear playing in a pub, but I don't think that it would be very popular nowadays. There isn't a lot better, a bit meh.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
There were a couple of famous songs, but overall it's the normal Red Hot Chili Peppers sound throughout, so not too bad, especially as a background listen.
Gary Numan
2/5
This was a bit of a weird album, so I assume people would have to be on drugs to fully enjoy it, or just have it in the background, although it's not really just a simple listen, but it's a bit intense. Everything sounded very repetitive, really nothing exciting, but I guess people were experimenting with making that kind of music at the time, so I understand why it sounds pretty meh nowadays.
John Lennon
4/5
In this album, it's pretty much Imagine and Jealous Guy that are really good, whereas the rest are alright, it's just that they're not on THAT level. Pretty nice album to have in the background and even properly focus on it.
Cream
4/5
Very nice album, Eric Clapton really gave every song that boost that it really needed. Overall, pretty great stuff.
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
I had very low expectations from a "Franz Ferdinand" band (I thought it was one person at first) that had a "Franz Ferdinand" album, but the first couple of songs were actually really good and then the third one hit - "Take Me Out", which is very popular, so I ended up enjoying the album quite a lot. Looking at all of their songs from this album, they all seem to have more than a million listens, and the majority even have tens of millions. Quite happy with this one.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Great album, enjoyed having it in the background, there are some nice jams but the biggest one is of course Sympathy For The Devil.
Tina Turner
4/5
Very nice album, super powerful songs, there were a couple of hits in there as well, but overall really nice having in the background.
Ice Cube
2/5
This is one of those rap albums where there isn't really too much melody but instead just the old-school rapping, which I am not really a huge fan of, but it's alright having it in the background, and it even creates this gangsta environment in movies whenever it is playing in a car repair shop, for example.
Mudhoney
1/5
This whole album was such a tediously mediocre experience that I barely managed to get to the end. It was two hours of, possibly, live music during a concert, for some reason, and pretty much all of the songs were very much meh. There was basically no difference between the songs, there were a couple of alright ones but if you just had this playing in the background, it was just noise and it was also very stressful when trying to do work and focus properly, as this was just stress-inducing noise in the background, so I had to lower it a little bit. Overall, I wouldn't say that it was decent but there were some alright songs, so my rating was originally not going to be one star but holy moly, the last song was so painfully long that I got so annoyed that the album was still going. It was great when I saw that I was on the last song but then it went for a bit too long and turns out it's 14 minutes. The end of the album made me feel great - I was so happy that it was finally over.
The Velvet Underground
2/5
Pretty alright album, not really what I was expecting from "Undead Underwood" but it was alright as background music. There were a few songs that were pretty different from each other, so the album was a bit all over the place but overall not too bad.
Nirvana
3/5
This is a nice album, it had a few very popular songs but I am surprised that it didn't sound bad for a live performance. Overall, it was alright having it in the background and I enjoyed the songs that I knew.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
This was an alright, typical-sounding British album, nothing too exciting, it was not too bad having it in the background.
Youssou N'Dour
3/5
This is an interesting album, it was fairly short and only had four long songs, but it was a nice jam having in the background. Overall, nothing too exciting, but just some soul kind of, jazzy sometimes even, music.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
This is an alright album, nothing really too exciting but t wasn't too bad having in the background. It has quite a lot of listens on Spotify but I would say that it's alright overall.
Beatles
4/5
Pretty nice album, it was great having it in the background, I think that they were super popular at this time, so they were going all in on just whatever music they wanted. There were a couple of popular songs, there were some that were a bit meh but overall good stuff.
Kendrick Lamar
3/5
This is not really my type of music, so it wasn't that great, to be honest, but I know that a lot of people like it and also it seems that pretty much all of the songs from the album have hundreds of millions of listens. I would say that for me it's a bit meh, especially for a first listen.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
This is not as exciting as The Sound of Silence, but I guess Mrs Robinson is a really popular song as well. The rest of the songs in the album are a bit meh and nothing exciting really happens but it's overall alright, especially as a background listen.
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Not too bad, I feel like this is slightly outdated now but overall has a good vibe. It's okay having the album playing in the background, you may even jam to parts of some songs.
Robert Wyatt
2/5
The first song of the album started pretty well and then about a third of the way in, things got a bit weird with the melody, so I would understand if this is used as background music for a movie. The third song is just all over the place - just crazy sounds, which you could call "playing out" when the jazz band just makes sounds but... no. Overall, not a very pleasant experience, especially when you're trying to listen to this while working, for example, and things are a bit stressed out already - the third track just makes things so much more intense than they actually are.
Norah Jones
4/5
Pretty nice and chill album, compared to some of the weird ones that we've had on here. I enjoyed having this in the background, it had a "live performance at a restaurant" vibe where the music is nice and chill but you're mainly focusing on doing other things. This was released in 2002 but it has a much earlier vibe.
Arcade Fire
3/5
This is not a bad album, it was alright having it in the background, nothing too exciting though.
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
Not a bad album, it was nice having it in the background, it had this 90s vibe. Nothing too exciting throughout but it's alright overall.
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
Not a bad album, definitely feels outdated nowadays but this must've been pretty good in the late 50s. Imagine the Beatles making crazy music 10 years later - no wonder the world enjoyed them so much. But yes, this album is a bit meh, nothing special, the songs are all pretty much the same and they're singing about real-life events, it seems, mainly personal experiences.
Incubus
3/5
This was an alright album, nothing too exciting, it feels like they were experimenting a bit right at the end of the millenium. It sounds like the songs are just alright to have as background music.
Coldplay
3/5
Not a bad album, it had the typical Coldplay sound and some of the songs were even familiar. Overall, their songs are mainly just for a background listen because sometimes nothing really happens, whereas if you just leave it playing in the background, it's a nice little jam.
The Prodigy
3/5
If I hadn't listened to these songs when I was younger, I don't think that I would really find them too exciting nowadays, but I have jammed to a few of the songs from this album and they seem to be the most popular ones anyway. The rest are a bit obscure and not really too great but it's overall noot too bad of an album, although a normal person would think that this music is crazy.
Elvis Costello
3/5
This is another Elvis, but not as popular as the other one. The music is alright, nothing too exciting, and I assume that it would've been a bit meh amongst all the other cool music that came out at around this time, when things started going a bit crazy and music wasn't peaceful at all. Overall, not too bad though.
Circle Jerks
3/5
I was really excited when I saw how short this album was and each song was about a minute long. Overall, nothing exciting happened throughout this album - each song was pretty much the same and had this generic sound for that kind of music where the music is playing in the background and the singer just talks about stuff, but there is no good rhythm, so it's a bit meh.
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
This album isn't too bad, the songs sound quite ages compared to what is popular nowadays but this must've been pretty cool just having in the background back in the day, before all the rock bands started getting popular at around that time. Overall, a bit meh, nothing too exciting but not a stressful album, so that's nice.
Bob Dylan
3/5
This is a nice album, but definitely outdated nowadays, as it is not really that exciting, the melody is alright, but I find it a bit meh in 2025. I would say that it definitely hit a lot harder back when it came out.
David Bowie
3/5
This was an okay album, nothing too exciting, a bit meh, but it was alright as a background listen.
Billy Bragg
3/5
Not a bad album, it has an old vibe to it, even though it's from 1998. Nothing too exciting, but it was alright having in the background while I was doing stuff.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
The Blues Variation song was pretty nice but the rest were a bit meh. Nothing too exciting, but I guess this is a pretty old album, so it must've hit differently back then.
KISS
3/5
So, KISS sounded super hardcore when I was younger but it just seems a bit soofter than what I remember now, but I would like to say that the two songs that I knew from this album were pretty nice - Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud.
Paul McCartney and Wings
3/5
You can tell that pretty much the whole album has a Beatles vibe, I don't know if it's on purpose or just because Paul brings that vibe, but he was surely trying to feed off of the already existing success. Overall, not too bad, it was nice having it in the background. I actually enjoyed the last song - Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five.
King Crimson
3/5
The first song - 21st Century Schizoiod Man, is actually a song that I didn't expect to know but it is something that I've heard in the past. I shouldn't have judged "the book by its cover" but I thought that the album would be very disappointing, based on the artwork. Overall, I am happy with the experience, it was very nice - pretty chill from the second song onward, but it was a bit intense during that first song.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
I really enjoy Purple Haze, Hey Joe and Foxey Lady, but the rest oof the songs were unfamiliar. The whole album sounded nice, enjoyed having it in the background.
Jamiroquai
3/5
Apart from this being a very long album, it was not a bad experience having it playing in the background. Overall, nothing too exciting but it was alright.
Common
2/5
This is when rap became a bit more melodic and it wasn't just talking, but I am not a huge fan of the songs from this album, although it was alright having it in the background. If you pay more attention to it, it would probably make more sense, but it's a bit meh.
The War On Drugs
3/5
Overall, this was a pretty nice album having in the background, nothing too exciting but it was definitely better that some of the things that we've had on here, because it is chill and it's not a burden when it's playing on the side while you're doing something.
OutKast
3/5
There were two popular songs in this album, and the rest were a bit meh. The whole thing was alright, but nothing too exciting. Two two jams - So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson were great, of course.
Baaba Maal
3/5
This was an interesting album, definitely can't say that it is something that I listen to very often, but it was enjoyable having it in the background. The typical African music element in it was interesting to hear, but I am not sure whether I would listen to this again.
The Byrds
3/5
Overall, not a bad album, it was quite enjoyable having it in the background but of course it is quite outdated nowadays, and as the more aggressive music became popular a few years after this album came out, so it was probably nice chilling and listening to this.
Abdullah Ibrahim
3/5
This was a pretty nice and relaxing album, by Various Artists, and it is just background music that is similar to what they sometimes play in some restaurants. Overall, nothing too exciting in the whole album, but it definitely wasn't too bad.
R.E.M.
3/5
Pretty nice album, enjoyed having it in the background while I was doing stuff. It has this R.E.M. sound to it, as if I'm listening to Losing my Religion or Everybody Hurts. Overall, nothing too exciting but it was an alright listen.
Boston
3/5
Pretty nice album, it was enjoyable having it in the background. The first song, "More Than a Feeling", is the only one that I know but it was also the most melodic and enjoyable one as well, even though the rest were alright as well. The solo in "Foreplay / Long Time" was pretty nice as well but all of the songs had that Boston vibe to them.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Leonard Cohen has about two or three popular songs that are quite melodic and the rest are pretty dull-sounding, which is not a bad thing, but if you haven't really listened to any of these songs before, they all pretty much sound the same. I feel like with him it is more about telling a story, and not so much about the melodic bit, but I am not an absolutely huge fan of his stuff, even though it's alright having it in the background and I would jam along to the popular songs.
Genesis
2/5
This was an interesting album - it started off with a pretty nice song, but then later on things felt pretty repetitive. It wasn't necessarily bad, it's just that it wasn't exciting anymore, although it is a pretty chill choice for background music. The overall vibes were pretty bizarre - this is quite an old album and yet it has some different sounds and is a bit all over the place.
The Cardigans
3/5
Overall, not a bad album but it definitely feels like it's not from the late 90s. I can imagine people enjoying jamming to this. I also hadn't really thought about who sings that "love me, love me, say that you love mee" song, which is also their most popular one. Overall, the album is pretty chill, nothing too exciting but also nothing too bad.
MGMT
3/5
So I didn't know who these people were but I knew the first and fifth songs, and they're not absolutely amazing but they're pretty nice. The rest of the album was alright, and it was okay playing it in the background, as it is fairly chill.
Derek & The Dominos
5/5
OKAY, so... yes, Layla is their most popular song in this album, and yes, Bell Bottom Blue was very nice and jammy, but holeh moleh - this whole album was such a bop. I enjoyed listening to the whole thing, and it seems that they just had fun playing this whole thing as well, it wasn't forced as well. Overall, great songs, really nice stuff, and Eric Clapton absolutely destroyed that poor little guitar.
Talvin Singh
2/5
Overall, nothing exciting but it is not really what I expected. I think that this is a pretty niche type of album and it was a mix of Indian and electronic music, which I haven't really heard before. Overall, a bit repetitive, slightly confusing at times even, maybe a bit annoying at moments.
Hüsker Dü
3/5
I had pretty low expectations because of the name of the band, for some reason, but it actually wasn't too bad. Given that this came out quite a long time ago, I can imagine that this kind of music was quite cool back in the day. It gives off The Pick of Destiny epic-sing-off-battle-with-Satan vibes, especially Ice Cold Ice, but overall not too awful even nowadays.
Weather Report
3/5
This album feels like one that would make more sense in a movie, as background music, but it was overall not too bad, as it was jazzy and pretty chill.
3/5
I am not an absolutely huge fan of David Bowie, although I know that he's great, but I did enjoy Starman and some of his other songs. Overall, this was a pretty nice album, nothing too bad.
The Go-Go's
3/5
This was a pretty alright album, nothing exciting happened but it wasn't bad. Overall, a bit meh but it was fine having it in the background while doing other stuff.
Tim Buckley
2/5
This was a bit of a slow album where nothing really happened but it's definitely fine for a chill background listen. I would say that this would maybe even be great as a movie background track.
Adam & The Ants
3/5
It feels like this is quite an old album but it's from that time when that kind of music was quite generic, I think. Nothing too exciting but it's alright leaving it in the background. Overall, a bit meh but it was alright.
American Music Club
3/5
The whole album was unavailable on Spotify, which is something that I don't think I've seen before. I had to go on YouTube and listen to it there, but luckily it was a short listen. Overall, not a bad album, pretty chill and nice for background listen.
Miles Davis
3/5
This was a pretty chill album, although at times it had these unnecessarily stressful jazz moments where the music gets off-key and it is very difficult to listen to, but this was mostly a nice album to have in the background or to even pay attention to. I was really excited to see that there were only two songs in the album, but each was almost 20 minutes long, so it was just a normal short album long. Overall, pretty nice, nothing too exciting but also not disappointing.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Very nice album, three of the songs being quite popular and the rest also having this Black Sabbath sound to them. Overall, pretty alright but I feel like we've gotten spoiled with the music that came our a few years after this album, although this was definitely important in rock music history.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
3/5
This was an alright album, nothing exciting but it was fine playing in the background. Fairly meh at times but it's okay.
Ryan Adams
3/5
Ryan Adams, not to be confused with the Bryan one, I guess making older-sounding music in the year 2000, but it seems to be quite popular, judging from the number of listens on each song. Overall, not too bad but pretty meh at times.
The Beach Boys
3/5
This album has the typical Beach Boys sound, or maybe it's just the boy bands from that time, which isn't necessarily bad nowadays, although it feels a bit outdated compared to what we're used to listening today, but it's pretty nice having in the background.
Alice In Chains
3/5
Poor Alice, being in chains.. but apart from that, overall not too bad of an album, pretty chill for what I always thought was a pretty harsh-sounding band. It was nice having it in the background and although it wasn't super chill, it sounded pretty nicely.
Talking Heads
2/5
Overall, pretty meh album, even though it has missions of listens on each song on Spotify, but it is also quite an old album, so I guess it has a fanbase. I would say that this isn't too great nowadays but I can see it being quite exciting back in the day. The two songs that have the most listens are the least-worst sounding ones, but the singing is just very distant, not really too melodic and overall meh.
Goldie
1/5
Possibly one of the least exciting albums that I have gotten on here - yes, it may have been cool in 1995 when it came out because people would take drugs and this would play in the background and they would just chill there, but I don't know.. it's just not really that great. Pretty much all of the songs are basically the same thing and there is nothing really going on. The most upsetting thing was when I found out that I was playing the first song after about 15 minutes and thought that I had listened to the whole album, but as the whole thing is almost 2 hours, I realised that I was still on the first song and I already wanted to stop listening to the album. It's a good thing I was doing other stuff, so this was playing in the background, so that I was kept distracted.
Love
2/5
The songs were very chill and a bit meh until the "Seven and Seven Is" song, which seems to have the most listens, where they just turned into a whole different band. Overall, pretty meh stuff, it's alright but not really that great, it just sounds a bit empty. I understand that this is a pretty old album, so given that, this must've been pretty cool back in the day.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Very nice and relaxing album, the orchestra in the background filled in any gaps that there may have been. Overall, great stuff, it was great having this in the background.
Metallica
4/5
This is definitely not as great of a Metallica album as their other ones that we've had on here - the songs sound great, and I wish we could give half ratings, so I would give this 3.5 stars but I've been rounding things down. Their solos are great, so despite the meh overall vibes, I would say that this would maybe get a 4, even though I think I rated the other albums 4s because they were not absolutely perfect.
Deep Purple
4/5
Oh, I remember buying a couple of songs from this album when I got an iTunes gift card maybe around 2011. Overall, great album, and although there are some songs that are a bit meh, the fact that I am so familiar with it made me enjoy it a bit more. I feel like overall it would be slightly over 3.5 stars, so I'm giving it 4, but it has to be pointed out that it is not a full 4-star rating.
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
This is overall a pretty chill album, nothing too exciting. The most popular song here was Nothing Compare 2 U, but the rest were just a bit alright, so they were fine being in the background.
The Last Shadow Puppets
4/5
Okay, so the album artwork and the beginning of the first song screamed 70s but I looked at the year and it said 2008... Overall, this was a very nice album and the vibes that I get are similar to what Arctic Monkeys has. UPDATE - turns out that both bands have the same frontman, Alex Turner, so that explains a lot. Overall, there are some songs that are a bit mid, but there is no empiness in the songs - each beat is very well filled up with sound.
The White Stripes
3/5
Seven Nation Army is in the album, so all of the other songs seem a bit meh compared to it, but the overall feeling of the album is pretty decent. Nothing too exciting, but there are some moments when the songs sound pretty good.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Overall, this was a pretty alright album for playing in the background, but really nothing too exciting. It is a live recording, so not a proper studio recording, but real Johnny Cash fans would probably enjoy it just as much.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Very nice album, it creates good athmosphere and is just very nice having it in the background while doing other things. Some songs are quite jammy and others are pretty chill, but overall a great album.
The Stone Roses
3/5
This was a little bit of a meh album, where nothing exciting really happened, but it was definitely alright as a background listen. If you properly focus on the music, it gets a bit annoying, but if you are busy doing other stuff, it kind of just goes by in the background.
B.B. King
4/5
This is a great album, although it is live, and B.B. King's guitar makes everything sound great. Overall, very nice experience, especially if you just leave it in the background, as it can even help turn a solo meal into a fancy jazzy restaurant experience.
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
Overall, pretty alright jazzy album - it's great for when you're having dinner, but there are times when the drums try to look very cool and that is a bit too much, but apart from that - nothing really too bad.
The Smiths
3/5
Overall, this album isn't too bad, but it is not very exciting. I would mainly recommend leaving this in the background and doing something else, as it is not THAT great when you properly focus on it. Still, given that this came out in 1987, it must've competed with quite a lot of fast-paced music, but I am sure this had quite a lot of fans as well, as it is not too bad.
The Byrds
3/5
This was a pretty alright album, nothing super exciting, but it was nice having it in the background while I was doing stuff. A bit old sounding, but given that it came out in 1965, before all the more exciting music, this sounds pretty good actually.
U2
3/5
There are two songs that are popular in this album, but the rest are just a bit meh, although they are alright as a background listen. I think that this kind of music was cool back then whenever you were on drugs or just wanted to lay down and chill, OR maybe just having it playing in food places or whatever. Nowadays, they are not THAT great, although Apple was really pushing them with special editions iPods and giving away their latest album for free to everyone. I would say that this album was pretty meh overall, with a couple of good songs, and it surely doesn't hit the same as it may have back in the day.
Beastie Boys
2/5
This is one of those albums where they made rap music that was just a bunch of words and the beat repeats forever in the background. I am not a huge fan of that, I think possibly because that slightly predates me, but instead I prefer the rap songs that have a more melodic vibe. Overall, not a bad album, but I am just not that excited about it.
The Stranglers
3/5
Actually surprisingly good album, I thought it wouldn't be as good. Given that this is from 1977, it must've been pretty popular, but it is also around the time when more exciting music was getting popular, so I assume it did alright but not the best. Overall, it sounds pretty alright, not necessarily 4-star worth, but around 3.5 at least.
Black Sabbath
4/5
This was probably manually pushed today, in honor of Ozzy's passing. Black Sabbath was a very heavy band, a possibly bordering what I would normally enjoy, but I love their main hits, and their guitar solos are always great. Overall, not a bad album, although it doesn't have any of those hits that we've all heard of. I would say pretty nice and in honor of the Prince of Darkness himself - you will be remembered.
The Replacements
3/5
This album is a typical one from these days, I think, but these usually sound a bit outdated nowadays, so I feel like the songs were nice as a background listen, but properly listening to this would be a bit too much and nothing too exciting, apart from a couple of decent ones, but I would say a bit meh.
Hugh Masekela
2/5
Only the first two songs of the album were available on Steam, I guess the rest just weren't meant to be listened to. Overall, not too bad of an album, it sounds like background music for a movie from the 70s where not a lot is happening in the scene that we're watching, but then in the second song, it sounds like even less would be happening. Not a bad jazz piece - a bit meh, but definitely very chill.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
This album has this Phil Collins vibe, but it is undeniable that most of the songs are a bit meh, although they are great for a chill environment while you're playing it in the background, while you're possibly on drugs in the 80s, BUT the most popular song on the album - Sledghehammer, is very cool and I enjoyed listening to it again, but I just didn't know that Peter Gabriel was the person singing it. Overall, a bit meh for the whole album, but not necessarily in a bad way.
T. Rex
3/5
Overall, pretty chill album, nothing too exciting. It was alright as a background listen, but it doesn't epic songs like Bang The Gong.
Tangerine Dream
2/5
A little bit of a nothing playlist, it was just a bunch of sounds, not even LoFi, but just things happening as if they're on a very microscopic level. It was pretty much the same, but overall a bit meh.
SAULT
2/5
The songs in this album are the kinds of songs that they play at the beach, which are super repetitive and you would maybe enjoy if you like that kind of music, or you're on drugs. A couple of the songs were actually pretty decent, but still, nothing too exciting. I think that the whole album was trying to raise awareness for Black Lives Matter, which is great, but purely focusing on the music - it is not really my type, so it is a bit of a meh from me.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
This was a really nice album and they had a couple of songs appear twice at the end, so that they make sure you remember them. Overall, I really enjoyed having this in the background. It obviously had this old 60s sound to it but I may be slightly nostalgic to that kind of music from when I was younger and my parents would listen to this whenever we were visiting family friends.
4/5
This was a nice Beatles album, there were a few great jams but there were a few songs that were just okay. Overall, the album was great and imagine what it would've been like if this was back in the day.
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
This is a little bit of a meh playlist, nothing really too exciting but it was alright just having it in the background and it was relatively enjoyable. I assume this was pretty normal music back in the day when it came out, even though there were definitely more exciting things.
Michael Jackson
3/5
This is a pretty nice early Michael Jackson album, but none of these songs are really popular. Overall, not too bad, it was a nice throwback to chill music from that time.
Kings of Leon
3/5
This was a pretty alright album, I knew two of the songs and it seems that quite a lot of people like them because of all the listens they had. Overall, a bit meh but these two songs made it a bit more than alright. I don't know if it's 4-star worthy, but 3,5 for sure.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
This was an alright album, definitely a bit outdated though, but chill. Overall, it was alright having it in the background, as it was nothing intense.
Deep Purple
3/5
I really like Child in Time but the rest of the songs are just alright. Overall, not a bad album and just overall great Child in Time experience.
Jane's Addiction
2/5
This was a slightly weird album, which we should've expected from the album artwork. Overall, nothing too exciting but there were little bits here and there, where it sounded quite nice, so overall meh is what I can say. It was decent just playing it in the background while doing other things, but I think it would be a bit too much if I were to sit down and focus on listening to the whole album.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
There was one popular song, which I didn't know was by Peter Gabriel, but the rest are just good background songs. Overall, nothing very exciting, but it's pretty alright.
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
The "My Bloody Valentine" reminded me of that 2009 movie that I went to see in the cinema but was very young and interestingly enough didn't really hate it. Overall, quite meh of an album, with some songs being pretty weird, with a lot of background sounds that don't really make a lot of sense.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Pretty chill album, nothing exciting but I think that it's a bit outdated nowadays, although it's still pretty alright. It's just a bunch of talking while music is playing in the background but yes.
The Cure
3/5
So the music is alright but it's just a bit meh. It's nice leaving it in the background while you're doing stuff because it's very chill but it's just not exciting whenever you properly focus on it. I only knew Lovesong and that was nice but the rest were just meh.
Tom Waits
1/5
Tom Waits, but what is he waiting for - no one knows. But apart from that, the whole album was very weird and I guess I should've known from the album artwork, but it's just weird sounds, not great singing and it's a bit all over the place.
UB40
3/5
I didn't expect the Unemployment Benefit 40 gang to sound great, but it was actually a really nice chill album. I had this playing in the background and although the last 2/3 of the album sounded pretty much the same, the first 1/3 was actually pretty nice. Overall, very lowkey album and it was enjoyable to listen to. It has some reggae vibes and is quite upbeat.
Elvis Costello
3/5
This album has that millennial tv show intro music, especially "13 Steps Lead Down". It is overall alright, nothing too exciting and at times a bit meh, but it's alright, as it's pretty chill.
Air
3/5
I didn't expect this album to be great, but it was actually pretty nice. It mainly sounded like background music for movies, but it is some pretty cool movie background music. The other songs sounded like it was just LoFi but slightly different, which wasn't too bad either. Overall, it was a pretty decent experience.
Björk
2/5
I know that Bjork is a bit weird-sounding and listening to this album confirmed it - the whole thing was just overall very confusing to listen to, but I know that there is a group of people that enjoys listening to this when on drugs because I think it would have some kind of psychedelic feeling. In my opinion, while not on drugs, I don't think that I am a huge fan of that music. It's relatively alright playing in the background but nothing too exciting.
Orange Juice
3/5
This is a pretty chill album, it was nice having it in the background. There was nothing exciting, but I am sure that this was quite chill listening to back in 1982.
The Fall
3/5
This was a pretty chill album, nothing too exciting. The first song had a nice solo towards the end, and the rest of the songs sound a bit outdated nowadays, but they're alright as a background listen.
Dead Kennedys
1/5
A whole bunch of shouting and noise, so when I had this in the background while working, things felt a lot more intense than they actually were. I wasn't a huge fan of this at the time, so I would say overall a bit meh.
The Kinks
3/5
Overall, nothing exciting and sounds a bit dated when I listen to it today, but I know that this was pretty cool to jam to back in the day.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Very nice and chill album, the first song was the most popular but the rest were also pretty nice. Overall, quite enjoyable having this playing while you're doing something.
Dr. John
2/5
The album started off pretty well, but then things got a bit weird and there were just a bunch of sounds, so at first it was great and then very bad. Overall, a bit less that meh.
Badly Drawn Boy
3/5
Overall, this is a pretty chill album, quite enjoyable having it in the background even, and possibly even a good experience. There were no crazy songs, it was just calm with sometimes a little bit of guitar noise.
Megadeth
3/5
I like my rock/metal up to hard rock, but sometimes I do enjoy it whenever the metal-y music is a bit softer and not as harsh and extreme, so this ended up being a pretty nice listen. Usually when it's busy at work and I am listening to a heavy metal album, it makes things feel a lot more extreme than they are, so I end up stressing about work, but this is actually borderline decent. Overall, not too bad but also enjoyable guitar solos and there's no screaming.
Pixies
3/5
Overall, not a bad album, a bit rock-y 90s sounding, it was alright having it in the background. I was wondering what the popular Pixie song was, that I knew, but that is not in this album (Where Is My Mind?). There are moments when things are a bit harsh, but nothing too bad, as it was overal pretty chill and relatively enjoyable even, I would say.
System Of A Down
3/5
The vocals are very talented, the instrumentals are wonderfully-sounding, but the overall vibe is a little bit too harsh, compared to what I normally enjoy listening to. I am giving it three stars because it does sound alright but it is too intense for my liking. I do like a couple of System of a Down sounds, but this album was not it, unfortunately.
The Residents
1/5
Overall, very weird stuff, there were just a bunch of sounds and nothing made a lot of sense. I don't think that this album can be enjoyed, unless you're maybe on drugs, in which case it would maybe make it worse, so I don't even know...
Jimi Hendrix
2/5
Okay, so I really like several Jimi Hendrix songs, but the ones in this album are a bit meh, so I can't really rate this 4 stars. It was overall a bit worse than meh, hence the lower rating, but it's pretty decent for when you're just listening to this in the background.
Holger Czukay
2/5
I was excited that there are only four songs in the whole album, but the second and fourth were around 30 minutes total, which was 3/4 of the whole length of the album. Overall, not too bad of an album, as my expectations were quite low. The album is called "Movies", so that probably explains why all of the songs had this "movie background" vibe where they would be great as soundtracks while something extreme is happening in a movie.
Solange
4/5
Very nice, chill album. The vocals are very nice, it's just that nothing really happens in the songs, although they do have that calm vibe, so it's great having in the background while doing stuff, or even playing that at a fancy restaurant would be nice.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
3/5
There was one song that was way too long and I even thought that I had Repeat on, but it was almost 14 minutes long (Welcome to the Pleasuredome). The band sounded quite familiar, and then I heard Relax and The Power Of Love, so those were songs that I knew. Overall, pretty chill having this album in the background, nothing too exciting but it's not too bad.
Paul Simon
3/5
Overall, this was a very chill album, it was nice having it in the background. I had the first song in my Favouirites but I don't even remember listening to it, so I guess it was a long time ago. Nothing really exciting happened, but it's more of a Just Chilling type of vibe.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Thew first song was very weird, it was just a bunch of sounds, then the second one was really enjoyable to listen to and I was even ready to give this album 4 stars, but then the rest of the songs were just a bit meh - nothing really happened, althought they were alright to play in the background.
Miles Davis
3/5
This was not a bad album, it was jazzy, nice having it in the background, relatively enjoyable as well.
Elastica
2/5
The whole album was a little bit meh, nothing too exciting, but definitely listenable. It was fine having it in the background though, and things weren't that bad overall.
The Sonics
3/5
Overall, not a bad album, quite enjoyable playing in the background, but you can definitely feel that it is a bit outdated nowadays. I'm sure it was pretty cool back in the day, but now it's just a bit meh.
David Bowie
3/5
I know that David Bowie was very liked, but this album is overall a bit meh - yes, the music is pretty alright, but there is nothing too exciting. I assume things would get more appealing if I listen to it more often.
Merle Haggard
3/5
Overall, this was a nice-sounding album and it was enjoyable having it in the background, but it had a little bit of an older sound, so it is a bit outdated nowadays, but overall not too bad. There was even one song where I even bopped my head a bit.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Not a bad album, it was pretty chill, enjoyed having it in the background while I was doing stuff.
The Who
3/5
This was a very long album, but it was overall quite nice. I only knew two songs but the overall vibe was quite nice.
The Avalanches
2/5
Overall, a very repetitive album, it's a bit like LoFi but not really, but it's more like what they would play at the beach where I would go, where it was just the same beat and it would have someone talking over it, but also there would sometimes be that kind of not-so-bad stuff playing. Overall, quite a bit meh, nothing exciting, it became a bit more chill towards the end, but nothing too cool.
Paul Weller
3/5
Overall, this was a pretty chill album with nothing really exciting going on. It was alright having it in the background though, as it is a relaxing piece to listen to.
The B-52's
3/5
Only the first song was available on Spotify, so I had to listen to the full album on YouTube. Overall, quite a bizarre album, a bit futuristic in a very old kind of way, but then I saw the year - 1979 trying to make it look futuristic. The Rock Lobster song was actually quite cool and has this tune that I think is another song because it sounds quite familiar, so I assume they sampled it from this track then (UPDATE - I move away from my computer and I realised that it's actually Miley Cyrus' Fly on the Wall). Overall, quite a knee-shaking experience back in the day, whereas now - it is not that exciting, although it still has a nice sound to it sometimes.
Machito
3/5
Overall, not a bad album, quite jazzy, but there were too many noises towards the end of the second song and things got very annoying but luckily, it was only for several seconds, so I didn't give up listening to the whole thing.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
I was rushing a little bit, so this whole album was a little bit of an "okay, come on... nothing exciting is happening, pretty meh overall, and I just want it to finish", but I am sure it is listened to, because it was relatively chill.
Moby Grape
3/5
Some of the songs from this album weren't available on Spotify, but I listened to the rest. Mr Blue had a little bit of a Rolling Stones vibe, but also a tiny bit of a Jimi Hendrix vibe, and the rest were pretty nice to listen to, and this must've definitely been pretty cool when it came out in 1967.
Queen Latifah
2/5
I know that her music is quite important from back in the day, but I was not really a huge fan of that kind of rap, but instead enjoyed the more melodic one. Overall, the songs seemed pretty similar, but I do understand that the lyrics are what mainly matters here.
Prefab Sprout
3/5
Overall, not too bad of an album, but just feels a bit meh overall. I also understand that this may have been pretty nice and chill to listen to back in 1985, if you weren't into too intense things.
Orbital
1/5
The songs in this album were pretty long, especially the last two. Overall, pretty meh album, nothing really exciting and very repetitive stuff. I want to say that if you've listened to one of the songs, you've listened to them all, but they are slightly different, although the main idea remains. I am not a huge fan, nor am I a middle-sized fan, so I am rating this album pretty poorly, but I do understand that there are people who would enjoy the repetitiveness of it.
Antony and the Johnsons
1/5
I felt like this album was quite weak - nothing exciting happened, it wasn't too fun to listen to, but we managed to get through it. It is fairly new, so I assume that it maybe could've definitely done better.
Lightning Bolt
1/5
This album was a little bit too much - yes, the instrumentals had some potential, but there was just too much going on, regardless if the song had a lot of listens, or not. I think that this was overall very meh and didn't really enjoy having it in the background, but I guess maybe in certain circumstances, some people might find it entertaining.
Iggy Pop
2/5
I like "The Passenger", and coincidentally, it was also in this album, but the rest of the songs are not that great. Whenever The Passenger came on, I got a bit excited, but one song can't carry the whole album.
Jungle Brothers
2/5
Overall, this wasn't a very exciting listen for me. I know that some people like that kind of early rap music, but I prefer the more melodic one, as I don't tend to pay attention to the lyrics that much. This was a bit meh and not really for me, but I am sure it has its fanbase.
Burning Spear
2/5
Overall, not a very exciting album, but it's chill just leaving it in the background. Sometimes it has a little big of a reggae vibe to it and it's overall pretty alright.
Public Enemy
1/5
That's not really my type of rap music, as it is not as melodic as I'd like it to be. Overall, didn't really enjoy this album as much, although I know that this kind of music was huge back in the day.
Waylon Jennings
2/5
Listening to this nowadays - yes, it does sound alright and it's pretty chill to just have playing in the background, but it is definitely quite an outdated album. Overall, not too bad but I just keep thinking about the most intense stuff that came out a couple of years after this.
Baaba Maal
2/5
This is not necessarily a bad album and it's alright for leaving it in the background, but it's definitely not my thing as my proper music to-go.
Iron Maiden
4/5
Great album, I really enjoyed having that on the side, it was probably just perfect timing because I really felt like listening to that kind of music at the time. I didn't really enjoy the vocals when I was younger, but nowadays I appreciate how not-too-hard it is, and also the instrumental is just beautiful, and it overall doesn't feel extreme. There are three popular songs in this album, but the rest were nice just having in the background.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Really nice album, there are a couple of songs that are popular, and the rest of just nice to have in the background. Overall, this was a good experience.
Koffi Olomide
2/5
This was not a bad album, but it wasn't that exciting to listen to, although there were moments that would make you do a shakey shakey. Overall, it's alright, but only as a background listen.
Pantera
3/5
Overall, not a bad album, maybe a tiny bit too intense for my liking, but I was familiar with Walk, but the rest sounded pretty much the same. I would say that this is alright, but only in certain cases, whenever you feel like listening to that kind of music.
John Coltrane
2/5
This is a pretty nice jazzy album, fairly short one as well, so it was alright listening to it. At some point, it kind of gets annoying because there's just too many instruments playing their own thing, but it's manageable.
Jane's Addiction
2/5
Overall, the album is not too bad, but it's just a bit meh-felling. There's nothing exciting and the whole album overall didn't really make me feel too excited for what next song could possibly play, but I was mainly looking forward to just moving on and getting back to whatever I was listening to before that.
Portishead
2/5
Overall, pretty chill album, nothing too exciting, but also nothing too bad. I would say that it was alright having in the background while I was doing other stuff, but it's a bit too slow for more exciting activities.
Os Mutantes
2/5
Overall, a bit of a meh album, wasn't very thrilled aboutt his whole experience, but we got through it, as it wasn't a very long list of songs. I think that it's maybe a bit too outdated nowadays, but I can see this being alright for a pretty chill setting.
Count Basie & His Orchestra
2/5
Overall, this was a pretty chill album, nothing too exciting, but I think that because it's a bit old and because it sounds like it's for the background of an intense movie, it just sounds like an old movie is playing in the background.
Ananda Shankar
2/5
Not that exciting of an album, but it is defintely something that would be alright as a background in a movie, for example. Overall, quite oriental-sounding, but maybe a bit meh.
Stereo MC's
2/5
Overall, pretty meh-feeling album. There were beats that would make you feel like the song isn't too bad, but it doesn't really go far from there. Leaving it in the background would be fine, but that's all I guess.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
5/5
Amazing album, I really enjoyed listening to it, and then when I came back to write the review, I noticed that Eric Clapton was there as well. Overall, beautiful instrumentals, definitely 5 stars, no doubt.
The Prodigy
2/5
I like the two popular songs that The Prodigy has, but this album was a little bit meh. I think I enjoyed that kind of music a bit more when I was younger, but now it's just a bit too repetitive and there are just sounds here and there. Voodoo People is good, but that's pretty much it. Overall, a bit meh-feeling.
Fairport Convention
3/5
This album has an Irish kind of vibe, nothing too exciting, but also wasn't too bad just having it playing on the side. I enjoyed doing stuff while this was playing, so I am quite happy with the experience.
10cc
2/5
Overall, this album was pretty meh, nothing too great about it, but it was alright for background music.
Pere Ubu
2/5
I assume that this was alright back in the day but wow, was this an annoying album to listen to today... Some of the songs were alright but others just had very annoying off-tune sounds, the vocals were super meh, but some of the instrumentals were pretty alright at times.
Faust
3/5
Overall, a bit meh because this whole thing was just sounds, but not in a bad way, for sure.
The Byrds
2/5
This was an alright album having in the background. Nothing too exciting but it sounds pretty alright. Possibly maybe a bit outdated nowadays, but it's still listenable.
Ray Charles
4/5
Pretty nice album, really enjoyed having it in the background. I don't know if I can say that it is Ray Charles' best album because there are a few songs that are really good and catchy, but this was definitely great listening to.
Tito Puente
3/5
This was a pretty nice album, enjoyed having it in the background while I was doing stuff. It makes you shake a little bit.
Blue Cheer
2/5
This album felt a little bit meh, nothing too exciting, nothing too great, but it was alright having it in the background, as it wasn't too annoying.
The Beta Band
2/5
Alright album, it wasn't too bad having it in the background, but there were some songs that were very meh.
2/5
This was a very weird album, where they were making a lot of noises and the vocals were mainly screaming. Overall, not that great, but it was manageable in the background for a bit.
Tom Tom Club
2/5
Pretty weird album, but there were a couple of songs that were alright. I can confirm that the popular song was indeed good, and the whole album was not too bad running in the background.
Genesis
2/5
Not too bad of an album, it was alright having it in the background, and some may even say quite enjoyable, but definitely a bit meh overall. Given that this is quite old, I assume that it wasn't too bad back in the day.
The Associates
2/5
Kind of a meh album, nothing really exciting, but it was okay having it in the background. The popular song with the most listens was not that great, but it was definitely manageable.
Korn
3/5
I thought that this album would be too extreme, but it's not that harsh most of the time, it's alright having it in the background and listening to it once every couple of years. I might even go as far as to say that some songs were even enjoyable to listen to.
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
This is overall an alright album but nothing too exciting. It was alright having it in the background, but it was a bit meh overll.
Alice Cooper
3/5
This album was alright, there was one song that I knew, but the rest were alright playing in the background. Overall, it's okay but I know that it was pretty cool when it came out.
