Better than I expected
Syrupy voice. Fun but no Nina or Ella
Feels like a cleaner less dirty Tom Waits (early stuff)
Decent but unremarkable blues
3 stars
Some bangers but a bit of filler the too; unnecessarily long album

Quite a ride.
A few bangers, but plenty of whiny songs
Not my kind of hip hop
A few bangers, but plenty of whiny songs
I missed this album when it was released (apart from what was on the radio). So no real emotional attachment to it. But wow. So great to be able to discover it now
"Do it again" is a masterpiece :chef's kiss: but the rest of the album is decidedly ordinary.
Quite enjoyed this
I'd give this 4.5 if I could. Half the album is brilliant. The other half is fine but ruined by the heights of the first half.
Interesting. Not much outstanding, but definitely more than a background listen
Sparse but excellent
Pure poetry
Some great harmonies but overall not that special
Hadn't heard most of this. First two tracks are brilliant (Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer), rest is pretty good
Probably worth 3.5
That's some solid flow. Somehow missed Nas at the time, even though I was quite into hip hop
I'm not much into this style of jazz, but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The bass and drums are great, and the trumpet has it's moments, though it's too piercing and abstract for me overall
A couple of pretty good songs, bit 7 gets a bit long in parts
Started off strong, but kind of petered out in the second half
Some great songs but a few that are just 'good'. Probably hold them to as higher standard than other bands...
Fun, but might have overdone fela at uni
Took a few listens to get the hang of it, but really enjoyed
Not my thing
A couple of brilliant songs, a few whiny ones, and commercial radio and ads ruined a lot of it for me
Decent, but unremarkable & derivative
That's a solid album. I've heard bits of it but never the whole way through
5
Some bits were a bit too wild for me, but worth another listen
Never heard of these folks but quite enjoyed. A pregenitor of a couple of styles/bands that I like
Decent commercial pop
The titular track is not my favourite Bowie song, but the rest of the album is pretty solid
Never heard this one. Enjoyed a lot
This is what I came here for! Never heard of her before, but great album. I'm a sucker for a big female voice
Didn't quite do it for me in; though I do really enjoy some music in this genre, and can see how this has influenced other artists
First half was brilliant, dropped off a bit in the second half
3.
Hadn't heard this album before
Didn't listen much at the time besides the radio play on my jjj. This is good stuff
New to me. I like. 4
Sounds like spinal tap
Never heard them before, but wow there's a lot of bands I like that built on this.
A couple of good songs, but not quite enough to get a 4
3. Plus 1 extra for take 5
Faith no more did it better. 3
Great harmonies
A lot of interesting parts of songs, though oddly I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" this that much, but am intrigued enough that I need to relisten multiple times
A couple of amazing songs (Tusk the song is a masterpiece) but a fair bit of whiny stuff there too.
Couldn't really get into it. Monndance is good but not that good and not enough to hold it
Ok, but unspectacular country
I do love this album, but according to my rating system, only deserves a 4; there's a few songs there that don't quite do it for me
Not really my thing
Pretty abstract; quite interesting at times, but a bit of work to get through
A few parts of the album were quite decent, but then sways into mainstream too much. Decent enough mainstream, but not my thing.
3
That's actually pretty good reggae. Though perhaps lacking passion
First track is great. Rest has its moments
Solid punk
A few masterpieces and some meh
Meh. Title track is good, that's about it
A few solid blues numbers but nothing groundbreaking
A few interesting bits but mostly not my thing
I bought it at the time and enjoyed it, but a bit meh now
A few pretty good tracks but overall not an amazing album
Not their strongest; would probably warrant a 3.5 as I'd enjoy it in some moods, but only really enjoyed a couple of tracks
I had to listen twice to decide between 4 and 5. I'd heard the songs before in passing, but the album passed me by in it's time. But despite having no nostalgic value, this is a 5. Brilliant music, and every song is a story.
Stereolab travels back in time and does a co-lab with Jefferson Airplane
A bit whiny
Surprisingly diverse
A few brilliant songs there, but as an album it doesn't quite flow
A couple of gems but overall the album is a bit same-y
Couldn't get through it.
Freedom 90 is one of the greatest pop songs ever made, but the rest of the album doesn't keep up. Every second song was interesting in some way, but not enough to want to go back to the album
A couple of amazing tracks, but not quite there as an album
Half the album is 4, but half is 1 or 2.
The 2nd half drops off a bit, but still holds up.
Pretty good for a Christmas album. But it's still a Christmas album
The hits are great, but too much filler
Very pleasant
Almost gets annoying at times, then becomes quite interesting
2 great tracks but overall the album is a bit weak
Heavily biased by nostalgia
The sounds are before their time, but overall something felt missing
Title track is a classic but the rest of the album doesn't quite do it for me
I want to like it, but it just doesn't do it for me
Not my kind of country
Just a bit too jazzy for me
I had a tape (we had very few of those) of this era Beatles growing up, so nostalgia is strong. Some solid music there all the same.
Not what I expected at all, pleasantly surprised
Solid first half then falls off
Reminds me of Ummagumma
Good but gets a bit same-y
Almost lost a point for jazz police, but I think it might be a joke? Otherwise sublime
All up, it's not as consistent an album as some of their others; a few amazing songs but not quite a 5. Did take two listenings to get to that decision
It got better
A bit repetitive
Excellent name, but music too cheesy
Fun, shallow youthful anger
Promising at first but the periods of silence in the middle of tracks were really annoying
Listened to this a lot as a youngster. I think it's gotten even better and more relevant
I didn't really enjoy Bjork too much when this was released, but appreciate it a lot more now
Really torn about this one. Some excellent tracks, and fits together really well as an album. But also a bunch of tracks that just annoy me.
I quite enjoyed this. I've heard the name but can't pinpoint a song is theirs I've listened to
I had the record as a kid. So there's nostalgia biasing this
The title track is fantastic, though the rest of the album didn't grab me... on the first pass. On a second listening I enjoyed it a lot more
Smooooooth
Decent; reminds me a bit of PJ Harvey at times.
I really got into the groove of the last track but otherwise was ok
Delightfully weird but not sure I'll be listening regularly
I really hate this vocal style
There's something that I don't get about this. I appreciate it but don't necessarily like it. I'll probably come to really like it eventually though. Will need to listen a bunch of times to get there though
This rocks. Ashamed to say I haven't heard it before. This is what I'm here for
A bit long, but enough bangers in there
I don't mind a song or two of this style, but definitely not a whole album
Curious
A few good dance floor numbers, but a lot of filler schlock
Never heard of them. A pleasant surprise
First band I saw live, though never actually listened to this album before (live seeds is my all time favourite)
Listened to this a lot as a teenager, good blues rock but nothing groundbreaking
Brilliant
I enjoyed this. There's something about Elvis Costello that I can't quite commit to a score - the albums are good, but don't seem great, but then they might be. Also, Goon Squad!
Pretty whiny
Good flow, but the lyrics were a bit much. Which is odd as I don't generally mind, but found myself enjoying it a bit less... which some of the songs allude to. So I don't know.
A whole album is a bit much
Didn't grab me the first time through but enjoyed it a lot more in the second listening
I quite liked this. And only now realised that They might be Giants song "why must I be sad" is an ode to Alice Cooper
Only discovered this a couple of years ago.
Deceptacon is gold, but the rest of the album fails to keep up
Listened to a bit of Jamiroquai when I was younger, but doesn't quite do as much for me now as it used to
