Classic album 4/5
I've never listened to this album in it's entirety before. I probably wouldn't have in general. Not because I thought it was bad or anything, but just because I feel like I have heard most of them. Jamming, one love, 3 little birds. Literal classics and over all a very solid album. Just a classic.
Bob Marley is an absolute legend, and this album contains a few of his most well-known songs.
Bob’s best... and he’s one of the best
Really enjoyed it surprisingly. Not big on reggae but this could be a future purchase! Thoroughly enjoyable album! Who knew I’d like it!
Good vibes
Classic.
yes yes yes
Reggae is such an underrated genre, wish more people would take it seriously. Rip Bob Marley, you would've hated Israel.
Chill/smoke/beach album supreme
I liked this a lot, some big songs.
Great
Didn't think I liked BM, but thought this was great.
Good fun, only criticism is the tracks can get somewhat samey. *and I hope ya like jammin' too*
Jabbadabbadoo
Superb album. Roll up a fat one and smoke da reefa!
A great introduction to Jamaican style, and Bob Marley! Cool religious references. Good pool side music.
Were jammin', jammin' jammin', jammin'... Hittien myötä helppo antaa nelonen ilman Bob Marleyn ikonisuuttakin.
Clean sound, amazing music, better feelings than I suposed. High quality master.
A couple good hits on this one & I enjoyed it
Good
This is a classic album for sure -- great music, great vibes. I definitely liked it a lot
Very solid, sounds so great and lush
7. Wanted to give a 6.9, but it's definitely on the high side of 7 so that would be unfair
Solid album but like all reggae gets a bit samey
Reggae music con la calma
It's alright but hard to care about a reggae album for more than 4 minutes. 7
this album was really good and had tons of hits. I just can't quite give it a 5. I like Bob Marley but this isn't really my style.
Only good reggae
Closest to a 5 yet, a great piece of work that is timeless
Tres bon. Il est lalbum avec plein de classique. Un plaisir a ecouter. 4.5*
Okay, this might be the biggest surprise on the list for me. The first Marley album on this list, "Natty Dread" was the first album I gave a 1 rating to: I found it legitimately unpleasant to listen to. Because of that, I was (natty) dreading this one, expecting it to be another trainwreck where I just couldn't "get" a popular/famous album. Thankfully, no such problems here: this was a very enjoyable, entertaining album and I can completely understand why people like it. It's an album that tackles important issues without losing its upbeat, positive attitude and doesn't come off as preachy. If I have one complaint, it's that Marley's drummer seems to have a clear favorite drumroll and uses it on basically every track: it's not bad, but it feels kind of silly hearing it for the one hundredth time in a row.
Great album. So nice to sit through :)
I mean, this is THE reggae album as far as mainstream taste in the UK goes, I think? Pretty much inescapable, but I think it's a testament to the songs that that much forced exposure to them never sent me into a strop. Fave track - "Jammin"... No, "Three Little Birds"... No, "Exodus".... No, "One Love"... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Quality. I remember this well from parties at college
Super chill
Wonderful sound
I like this
From what I read, this album has the highest number of songs that ended up on the best of Bob Marley. I'm a fan of reggae as everyone should be, the rhythms take and transport you to a time and place far and away from my office cube. The music is great, and the attention to social issues are always welcome. Growing up, I was more familiar with Marley's music from his greatest hits album. Which I think I ordered through the Columbia House CD club. It was everywhere. From posters on the wall at college, to every stoner kid ever taking on Bob Marley as their favorite music. It all feels embarrassing to me now. I've spent a lot of time recently with Catch a Fire, an earlier album recorded in 1973. I would have to say that would still be my fave so far. But I'm still working my way through this one. It's always a joy to hear this music, and it never gets old.
A reminder that Marley is as important as a religious figure as he is a musical figure. Love the production and bass playing.
I don't know if it rules because of Bob Marley or because I listen to reggae so rarely that it's a lovely change of pace. Either way, great listen.
Rediscovered Jammin’ which was very nice. Reggae is not really my favorite style of music so no 5 stars, but it’s otherwise a great album
Not really my style but good in a mellow mood. The repetitiveness of the music is the downside. Some good songs “three little birds” and the back half of the album gets really good. overall I’m glad I heard it. The backstory around the album is even more interesting.
It's Bob fuckin' Marley, you can't hate this, it's impossible.
Classic. Three Little Birds as well. Noice.
Chill. Half of the album was only bangers!
It was very good, and deserving of its 'iconic' status in my opinion.
A classic from an inspirational man
They wailed lol! Also yesterday was a great day for an exodus
v good reggae album obviously
Nostalgic!
Chill AF
I'm afraid that I'm just as reggae-illiterate as I was nine months ago. Still, I had no problem enjoying this record, released during what I understand is the same period as Natty Dread. It's very strong as an album, like the aforementioned project. Some instrumentals, especially that of the title track, are absolute barn-burners. I think a little more dynamic range would elevate much of the music, but the groove's there and the more important thing anyway.
Their magnum opus. 8.5/10 F.T.: Exodus
It's Bob! What more needs to be said?
Good with some bangers but not really my ting
Classic slice of reggae from the man himself. Superb album!
Not a huge regay fan but thiskinda nice
Sorry bob, my mum played you in your entirety too often to bend these white boy ears.
Great mid term album from The Wailers
First Listen; 3.5; I enjoyed this a lot more than the first Bob Marley album I got as part of this project. Much more upbeat and groovy songs. The tracks also sound much fuller and have rich sounding instruments. Has a very smooth and laidback sound without blending into the background and getting boring. Favorite Track: Exodus
This album has almost all his hits!

Heard some songs on the radio but not the whole album. A true godfather of ska.
I'm not a reggae fan, but this was nice to have in the background
Better than the other Marley album I’ve reviewed on this list, just a better overall experience for me. I’ve always been a sort of surface level BM fan, but his hits are great. Best song on this album I’ve never heard is “Turn Your Lights Down Low”
I usually don’t like this genre but Bob Marley is always consistent at least.
Honestly I liked the last few songs of the album more than the beginning but overall this is a very vibey album all love Bob Marley !!
I don't smoke enough for this.
5/10 I didn't enjoy this as much as "Catch a Fire" unfortunately. Obviously there's still a couple super-bangers on here but not many other songs really grabbed me as much.
Wasn’t sure what I’d make of a whole album of Bob Marley, but I was really surprised how good it was. Probably helped that I was listening to it whilst lying on a sun kissed beach in the Med, but there are some very good songs and the remainder were reasonable too.
Pretty repetitive but the last two songs are so good
Such a great end to the album with all the well known lilting songs. The first half is just ok. The whole album is ok. Too played out
Pretty lame to me, like most of Bob Marley's stuff. I just can't dig it- the recording, the lyrics, the music, the myth around the man. My love of Jamaican music definitely peaks pre-Marley.
Slightly mellower Marley still a cut above your average reggae album.
Another quality Marley album.
Täydellinen kesälevy! Jälleen kerran nimikkobiisi veti puoleensa, mut oli kyllä paljon muitakin hyviä. Bob Marleylle (ja ehkä ylipäätään reggaelle) tyypillisesti kävi vähän toisteiseksi loppua kohti, mut hymyilytti loppuun asti.
Harmitonta ja rennonletkeää renkutusta. Paljo tätä enempää ei ois kerralla jaksanu, mut tämän levyllisen verran ihan kiva, vaikkei ihan mun cup of tea.
Ihan solid hyvämmielen musaa. Olipa uskonnolliset sanoitukset. Ajaton.
Solid fun beats Not for me. I can appreciate the talent and it was fine having it on in the background for a while
Não faz meu estilo! Mas tinha umas duas muito boa
ive never listened to a bob marley’s album and let me tell you that it did impress pleasantly. the guitar riffs, the mix btw rock, funk, reggae…. omg 7/10, we will listen to more bob marleys music :)
No denying the genius, just not my bag.
Solid reggae album. Infinity relistenable. Great production, and a fun polished sack of songs that everyone can sing along to. Very commercialized obvious. The curse of reagge culture is popularism.
It was okay reggae. That genre has never blown my mind, but also I've nothing to complain about it
Actually, a very chill album. It was nice leaving it in the background. Overall, nothing too exciting, but it was pretty much what a Bob Marley album would sound like.
Three Little Birds
Never a Reggae lover but he a brief flirtation with it in the mid 70’s during the Ska revival. In all honesty think I went with the crowd and what was popular at the time rather than a great love of the music but during that time I bought this album. Hardly played it since until today. Whilst i was admittedly ambivalent back then my views and appreciation of Bob Marley in particular have refined to the point that when the time and place are right I can enjoy his music. 3/5 27/5/26
It's good at what it wants to do, and it got me relaxed, but nothing really stood out. Not really what I'm looking for
3.5. Not bad at all. Gladly surprised.
Reggí er í raun allt eins, nema sum lög eru betri og önnur eru aðeins verri.
Chilled out reggae with sexual and political messaging. The back half of this album is loaded with the hits that continue to make Bob Marley the face of reggae as a genre. Unfortunately, everything here feels like pretty standard fare for reggae. The songs are good, but not *that* good. Enjoyable, but just so.
three little birds good 3/5
Fun occasionally but not something I want to listen to on the regular.
Groovy tunes. Not really up my alley but not unenjoyable.
Smoke Chihuahua
I don’t like reggae, but this will definitely be the best reggae album I will have to listen to because I knew quite a few songs on it. I knew Jamming, Three Little Birds, and One Love. I also knew all the words to Turn Your Lights Down Low, but I didn’t know it was a Bob Marley song. I obviously know a cover of this song, but I can’t figure out who sings it and I can’t find it anywhere. It’s driving me crazy.
honestly, I had not listened to much of Bob Marley before this album, but just kept the good vibes rolling in terms of album Exodus was my favorite song. however, as an overall album pretty solid, not my favorite.
It's got some classic reggae tunes! I love reggae as background music but perhaps don't have the knowledge to fully appreciate/differentiate.
This felt like the same 2 or 3 songs on repeat. Good songs nonetheless but not enough variety.
3,5
Meh
I don’t like reggae music and before today I would have said I don’t like Bob Marley but this album surprised me. I didn’t like every song but found myself enjoyed at least a few.
Relajante buenos ritmos
doggo/10
Decent. Exactly what I would expect from a Bob Marley album. Spotify has 12" versions of Jamming and Punky Reggae Party. I Like Jamming a lot. Favourite song: Exodus.
Better reggae than the last album I got. Still not quite for me, but it's always fun to have that "oh, *that's* where that song is from!" moment when going through this list. 2.75 rounded up to 3.
love the first song. so groovy. exodus felt like a never ending loop jamming gave off like im going on a date and it’s super weird and cringe and this is what’s playing… three little birds: oh my god the song from shark tale one love: also know this. it’s good
I can definitely see how this album hits very strongly for a group of people. The overtly political message and underlying spirituality through it all makes it for an enlightening listen for someone so separated from his issues at the time. As a message, this album is as important as it is reserved. Beautifully written and produced without a doubt. In terms of my listening, it's just okay. Most of the songs sound the same barring the lyrics, and I far more enjoyed the second half than the first. I recognize a lot of the bigger tracks on the second half as well which might make it hit harder. Definitely not something I'd listen to all the time, but I recognize its greatness in the pantheon of reggae and political music.
Great album. I am just not a fan of some of the songs and the album cover.
Electric guitar riffs go hard. Last half is full of classics. The groove is a given but the message and bobs lyrical melody are timeless.
Wouldn't go out of my way, but I'm glad it's on the list.
chill nice vibe
An relaxed album, made me want to go to the beach ☀️3/5
y'know. It's really solid. I appreciate the music, but i just dont know if I'd ever come back to the album for multiple re-listens.
This is a tough one to rate. There was a moment, (late college, but as a non-partaker of herbal sacrament) when I thought Bob Marley was revolutionary and dangerous. But this record seems like it is tailor made for white kids in college. It's not nearly as confrontational and aggressive as Catch A Fire. I personally recommend a listen to Talking Blues, an in studio example of just how good the Wailers were live and in real time. The Wailers had transformed into a professional music making machine. And while it is impossible to overstate Bob's influence on world and popular music, or his position as the most recognizable Jamaican in the world, I have become more of a fan of less heralded reggae artists, and find Bob overplayed and kinda mid anymore. Find some Toots and the Maytals, Abyssinians, or Augustus Pablo. Dig deeper into Dub and Rocksteady with King Tubby, Ernest Ranglin, The Aggrovators.
Some notable jams on here, but Marley is still not my favorite thing to listen to. I think it's great playlist music. I want to listen to one song here and there.
not bad, very chill
5/10 Hard for me to rate this one. Nothing particularly bad about it and nothing particularly great. Just smooth, easy listening. Not my preferred genre but I can appreciate it. Best track: Three Little Birds Will I revisit?: No
Some absolute bangers on here obviously, but also super repetative, you don't notice it until you listen to album end to end.
very sade vibes. the song exodus was nice.
Not my cup of tea but listenable
Good music overall - i am not fond of the style but it looks like a Classic
very funky and groovy 6/10
All due respect, I love a couple of reggae tunes but 3's usually my limit.
Not my style of music, but good to hear once in my life. Chill album to listen to as background music.
Good listening experience.
three little birds was by far my favourite song. other songs were decent but they weren't as lively/fun to listen to as three little birds. overall nice playlist, would listen again. addition: alright i also liked one love/people get ready. decent album, would recommend to other people.
Okay. I didn’t know where to place these in my playlists though, do I have to make a separate reggae one?
This is pretty good. And quite different to Catch a Fire.
It was good.
Hmm, lots of the same reggae
I don't care for reggae at all, and this is the third Bob Marley album we've encountered on this list, plus a Peter Tosh album. Of all of them, this one is the best, but I still do not care for it
7/10. good album, not sure of the influence it had on music today, because i lowkey wasnt around in 1977. but the sound is soo chill. Ill be honest i was feeling like straight shit till listenening to this album. felt like I was riding a kite in the shara desert. just like drifting. a lot of the songs sounded really similar which is why i didnt rate it as high even tho I liked it. it was a good listen but almost the same son for 1h.
mid
Great I love a good Marley project
2,9/5
Thoroughly enjoyable with some classic song-along.
Wish I liked this more than I do. Might have been underwhelmed after reading some glowing reviews before listening. Might need a re-listen. RYM: Y (#391) Saved a song: N
The chill out call for stoned students everywhere.
I'm usually not a big fan of reggae, but I have to admit this is a really nice album. Probably Marley's most accomplished work. The instrumentals are solid and less formulaic than in most reggae albums. Lyrics and voice are beautiful, hitting just the right balance between soulful and laid-back. Not every track is equally good, but there's a substantial number of bangers. Still not my favorite kind of music - it doesn't move me on a fundamental level, and I have a hard time getting through a whole album in one sitting. But if I ever want to play a reggae album in the future, it will probably be this one. 6/10
I think I would like reggae more if the world music genre didn’t exist.
3 pretty iconic Bob Marley songs in this album. The bass line in One Love always gets me. Great walking bass line.
The middle class white burnouts from my High School made me dislike Reggae back in the day cause they were so annoying about it. I'm still not super in to the genre, the repetitive rhythms and consistent slow tempo just doesn't do it for me right now, but Marley has a great voice and there are some amazing melodic moments throughout the album, and the last 3 tracks are undeniable all-time classics
чіл
Type of album you’d find rummaging through your favourite uncle’s CD’s. 🙂↕️
I actually did like it more than I expected, as generally I find classic reggae sound pretty boring. Probably because this one is quite unlike the “generic” reggae. Still, it’s not enough to call it real good. If only it had more tracks like The Heathen (or Natural Mystic) and less like Three Little Birds (or So Much Things to Say)…Alas, it doesn’t, and as an album it’s only mid to me.
Great pop styling put over easy to listen to reggae, especially noticed the clever lyricism 3.5
Classic reggae. Chilled out, repetitive reggae beats with some lovely bass. Would I choose to listen to this? No. But for what it is, it’s not bad.
Kul bakgrundsmusik. Three little birds. Hade typ önskat mer från detta album
I mean it's alright... Very Bob Marley. Very... boring.
stoned teenager me definitely listened to this a few times
I'm just not a Marley guy. The vibe is good, but reggae isn't for me.
Not listened to a Bob Marley album before. Enjoyed it much more than I expected
I thought I would really like this as I only knew the big hits from it. Listened a couple of times through and never really got into it - really liked Wait In Vain, One Love, and Three Little Birds but the rest didn't really catch me.
It's a nice vibe, but I never realized Reggae felt so repetitive
Isn't my genre but it's nice.
Not for me. But has a great general vibe that is uplifting.
Nice laid back vibe. Easy listening.
i put this while i was sewing in the hallway and my parents were humming the songs
Wish I had listened to this outside of work! Just made me want to flee to fresh air
Good... a few of their very famous songs are on this album. It didn't blow me away though... it was good, and easy to listen to. Very chill and mild.
good vibes
Ganz gut. 3? 4?
I actively avoid Reggae. Can't stand it. But I think this is an alright record on account of melody and meaning.
Definitely not my kettle of fish. I can appreciate the technical brilliance without really getting much from it. Each song was too repetitive for me, and outside of the last couple of tracks, I didn't get too much from it.
Not my thing, but undoubtedly very nice. Another title track that bangs quite hard but Waiting In Vain my fav.
Tranquil bangerthon
Not the biggest Marley fan, but this is an iconic album with some good tunes for sure.
Probably the most popular reggae album of all time, love the piano and the trumpets, the album is full of hits and songs that I enjoy
I don't love reggae and the repetition got a bit grating. There's undeniably some massive songs on here though and the vibes are nice enough. I think it's just not very for me.
Solid album, the singles are standouts. I think it’s more cohesive than I thought it would be, but a little one note. Religious themes more prevalent than I initially remembered.
Very summery and chill but I couldn't get much into it, kept comparing it to "Living is an Art" in my head because of the beats. Very cohesive album though, I think I would have liked it more if I could find the time to also read the lyrics while listening.
I probably hadn't listened to this for 15 years and had forgotten how good it was (side one especially)
Very pleasant listen, not exactly something I see myself coming back to often but I enjoyed my time and “Waiting in Vain” is a banger.
So many OG bangers. Sometimes the tracks kinda bleed into each other.
And of course we back-to-back with a much more famous Bob album. This one is also good, but that second half, while full of his greatest hits, suffers from the same issue that plagues his music - it all melts into white noise. His lyrics pack a much better punch in the first half and there's a funky, dance friendly production on the whole record that shows how the band has progressed since the early days of Marley's Wailers. It's still good - but not good enough for more than a 3.
Not my genre but it's fine
It was okay. Most of his hit songs were here. All of his other songs just went in one ear and out the other.
It seems that this is the album with the most hits from Bob. Good songs on here, but I really don't prefer listening to reggae. Good for what it is though.
This was an enjoyable listen from a notable artist with some familiar songs and some new insights from listening to and reading about the album as a whole.
Waiting in Vain and One Love are highlights. Some tracks too jam based for my liking. Interesting hard panning choices. Very wide sounding album. 5/10
it was okay
Reggae og
I'll admit I got excited when I saw Exodus as I thought I'd be getting some thrash metal, but this is okay too. I never really listened to a lot of reggae or Bob Marley. I am a metal and punk guy so I gravitate more toward ska punk when I do feel like listening to something reggae adjacent. This is a powerful record that millions love. I do not fall into millions, but it has its moments. Jamming is probably my favorite.
It was rather enjoyable for something I don’t usually listen to
Not bad by any means, but very repetitive and monotonous to listen to altogether. Put me on a beach somewhere by the equator and I can listen to this all day.
Why do I feel like I should like Bob Marley more than I do? This was OK but reggae isn't especially my kind of thing. It's kind of niche so a little goes a long way.
Very high quality, just not really for me
For me too relaxed, but great for raggae lovers
Fav.: so much things to say
I’m trying to keep an open mind to genres I don’t normally listen to, but I just can’t get into this. That said, I didn’t hate it, and some songs had me tapping my foot.
Reggae is one of my least favorite genres. Incredibly boring. If anyone is going to change my mind, it's Bob. Right? Let's dive in! ---- Yup. The A side is pretty boring. "Exodus" at least reminds me of Fela Kuti, so that's nice. But the rest is just so bland, and repetitive, and meh. The B side has all the hit singles and is a marked improvement. I'll take the big hits and leave the rest. THREE STARS
🥇exodus 🥈so much things to say 🥉three little birds HM: the heathen, jamming, one love/people get ready
Favourite Songs: Natural Mystic Three Little Birds
Actually pretty good, some of the most known songs of Bob Marley, some songs kinda sound the same but it brings up a good mood, a solid 7
favorite track: Waiting in Vain least favorite track: So Much Things to Say can't stop head bopping....big fan of the horns i'm hearing in a few of these. Exodus (the song) is fun. Thoroughly head bopping to Jamming. Love that guitar solo and riff in Waiting in Vain hellllll yeah. EVERY LITTLE THING IS GONNA BE ALRIGHT<3 Overall this is a nice album. It's not something I would typically listen to, but I enjoyed listening to it! My mood 100% improved from before > after the album.
it's a nice listen, even though i'm not really a reggae fan
Very chill, honestly don't take it too seriously. Listening to it while playing Fortnite. I probably wouldn't listen again, there are no songs that intrigue or make me really interested in the album. I don't listen to reggae, which just really isn't my thing. It gets a little better toward the middle of the album, but its just not my taste sadly.
one day i will come around to reggae. It's not today, though it'd be hard to deny that Exodus is really well done, but I will actively enjoy it eventually.
Lots of head bobbing to this one. 👍Three Little Birds, One Love / People Get Ready
I love Bob. This is a very good album deserves prolly 3.75 1/5 didn’t finish the album 2/5 didn’t keep the album 3/5 kept it and will listen when songs randomly show up on shuffle 4/5 kept it and will listen to it again front to back on my phone 5/5 buying the vinyl
Hard to listen to this with fresh ears and hear beyond the beach party soundtrack that this has become. Waiting in Vain and Three Little Birds are the highlights for me. Christgau calls it "solid and enjoyable," and that about sums it up.
Might as well be his greatest hits
I really enjoyed listening to the 2013 remaster with lossless audio. Definitely a better experience than the radio version. It's a solid album, and I understand why it's here. Gets a little lyrically repetitive but I feel like that's a reggae thing?
The Wailers gung däremot är förstås oanstastligt rakt igenom.
I’ve never really liked reggae. It feels like an alien culture to me. It all sounds the same. And I think I have too much internal nervous energy to listen to such relaxing chilled out music. If anything it makes me MORE nervous as my system reacts against it. But even I can see this album has some absolute classic songs on it. I have to imagine myself in a bar with a rum punch to get into the flow. So, I dunno, three stars? Seems unfair but there we are.
🙂
waiting in vain is a perfect song
I didn’t feel entirely moved by this one but definitely understand its impact!
This is a classic Reggae album, cant go wrong, whether your chilling at home or on the beach, this is timeless.
Not what I typically listen to
Feel good music with classics I knew and I couple songs I haven’t heard before. Would listen to the same couple of songs
this has nothing to do with the album - i had a stomach bug from eating cold seafood and i also spun around for 5 minutes right before hitting play, so i was feeling nauseous the whole time. i think somehow the guitar and the percussions (?) made it worse. i will listen again in a better state of health, but for now, 3/5. favourite song: Turn Your Lights Down Low least favourite song: all from side A
Yeah some cool reggae, not my favourite. 3 stars
Bob Marleys bästa?
I love Bob and I think everyone should at least like Bob
made me so excited for summer, cool cover art. exodus, jamming and waiting in vain like best three songs. super good flow without every song sounding the same. 7/10
Maybe I’m a heathen, but reggae music isn’t for me. It all sounds the same. This was 50mins of the same song (and Jamming).
Better album than others by Bob Marley on this list. I'd probably listen to this again. 3.5/5
Clearly a groundbreaking album, just not really my jam. I don’t think a middle-aged white man from the UK was his target audience.
Once again, Bob Marley sticks to his lane and does what he does best. Unfortunately, he only ever does that one thing, so it gets pretty boring pretty quickly (though thankfully, this album is also fairly short). Bottom line: I don't hate this, but it doesn't excite me, either. *Separate shoutout to Annie Lennox for elevating 'Waiting in Vain' to the next level.
top 3: the heathen, three little birds, waiting in vain (yaris, a4)
I couldn’t quite get behind the first half, even after registering to it. However the second half was pretty good. Not quite my style of music but I could still recognize it as a bop.
I'm too white to enjoy this. Also no dreads for me
Ahhh some great tracks on here. Also some very boring ones. Waiting In Vain doing a lot of heavy lifting.
I thought it was good. Very jammy and dancable. Some of the songs did just start to sound the same after a bit which i didnt love cuz I like when songs stand out. Added 5/12 songs to my liked songs.
Summermood
Exodus, the song, is so good. And Jamming is one I know well too. But other than that this was kind of forgettable. Super pleasant, no complaints, but yeah just kind of background music.
There are some highlights in the album, but mostly it's a pretty boring listen to me. The repetitive, slow rhythm puts me to sleep, and nothing else exciting is happening with the music. It's too saccharine and predictable. The breakout songs are way overplayed and not really exciting to relisten in the context of the album. I was hoping/planning to give this a 4 or 5 and be one of those who rediscover Bob Marley by a thorough listen, but alas it's not to be. It must've been a classic for its era, but I guess all the replays, covers, derivatives over the years killed the novelty.
This is classic reggae. They do it well. I found the songs smearing together though, but that's just the nature of the genre. I appreciate the talent, but didn't find myself ever saying "What is the name of this track, I want to be able to listen to it again"
We Jammin’
6/10
Lovely chill time. Most songs aren't something I'd add to my library, but perfectly pleasant to listen to. So Much Things To Say was a new discovery that I love.
Good fun! Not my favorite but it's impressive how many hits were in this one album.
3.0
Chillig, OK
Nice album to listen to, very chill. Apart from Three Little Birds though nothing stood out super well but overall very decent album.
Back in high school my buddy and I went to a bunch of Wailers concerts, their live shows are awesome. Once my mother grew suspicious of us and caught us trying to sneak some tequila before going to one of those concerts. She took the tequila, but still let us go to the show. And it was an incredible concert. Their recorded albums don't hit as much as the live shows, but this one really brought back some memories.
Surprisingly good. I don't even like Bob Marley. 3.5
Look Bob Marley is good and important and all that but I’m never going to choose sit down and listen to an album (unless directed to do so). The big hits have been omnipresent since, well since he died at least. Three Little Birds is taught to schoolkids! For me the band’s a little too tight, the production’s a little too clean, the tunes are a little too catchy, and the lyrics a little too….what? Outside my expererience? A little too spiritual (for me, personally). I can recognise it’s a good album, but it’s not my bag, man.
Bob stays consistent. Good stuff.
ok.
Smooth relaxing music but didn’t scratch the itch bob does. Maybe more of a summer time music than winter - Caitlin Sensational instrumentals throughout. Those last two songs mean business - Kie Kie LPs It's got the talent but no my vibe- Emma
I’m not sure how to explain this but I know this album is good but it doesn’t feel like the right time for it.
Definitely a certain vibe
Good, still just not for me.
First listen
Solidno vozi, ne bih prečesto slušala zbog monotonije. Više volim reggae izmiješan s drugim elementima definitivno.
Previously rated: #316 - Natty Dread (3/5) #779 - Catch A Fire (4/5) ***************************** Album #939 Well done reggae is still repetitive and not really my bag. I don't have a lot to say, but it was OK.
Reggae is a difficult genre for me to get into. Obviously these are the classics so it was nice, especially the 3 I know. I'll continue to have an open mind.
The lyrics are very repetitive, I wonder is this a reggae feature. Few familiar hits at the end to pick up my interest anew 3
I guess this one is one of "those albums" that depends on the listeners' taste. It's a reaaly good cohesive album, with the most classic of classical reggae sounds. Probably the most listened to Bob Marley and the Wailers album (???). As a casual reggae enjoyer, this one is good. As an album for my personal tastes, it's ok. Not mind bending, and certainly not my favorite reggae artist, but something I could listen to casually. And that is the point, it does not move me in a lot of ways. Really good album, not for my taste.
This is a good album, but I just can't get into reggae. It all sounds the same to me. I literally listened to the album 1.5x and didn't realize it had started over.
Good chill vibes
6/10 Highlights: Exodus The Heathen Three Little Birds Jamming Guiltiness
If I was listening at the beach with a bev this would be higher. Unfortunately, I’m driving through a cloudy 50° Virginia in October so Ian and I agree on 3
I still don’t feel any better qualified to pass comment on a reggae album, so it’s a ‘neutral’ three again. At least I knew some of the tracks on this one.
Either there are an extraordinary number of Bob Marley albums on this list or the RNG has failed us… It was clearly a stronger album than catch a fire but suffers from a lack of variety due to the conventions of the genre.
Interesting to listen to this so soon after ‘catch a fire’. It’s better, but still not really feeling it unfortunately. I like the slightly more politicised messaging in it, like there is more to be said and the instrumentation just seems to come across better in this (the bass just sounds that much punchier). Can’t said I’m jammin’ to this though.
This album is classic Bob Marley reggae music. I listened to the original release (ten tracks). Other than “One Love”, all the other songs were new to me. All of them were well done and easy to listen to, nothing that stood out as outstanding.
Maybe this is the anti-War (good album, bad cover). I guess I don't have that much Bob Marley (or reggae) listening experience, but of the songs I already know, they all sound... a lot like these. I do like the song(s), but they definitely feel same-y. (Is reggae related to ska? It's also like that.) Anyway, chill vibes, pleasant, decent lyrics. I'm a little sick of 'Jamming' but that's not the song's fault. Also not quite a 4 for me, but good. Highlights: 'Waiting in Vain', especially the lyric "ooh girl, is it feasible", 'Three Little Birds' Syntax aside: I like 'So Much Things to Say' because I also use "much" for countable nouns sometimes (so now I'm hyperattuned to it). Maybe it's dialectal and not just me being a weirdo!
If aliens ever come to Earth and ask what reggae is,just play them this album.
natural mystic- 5 so much things to say- 6 guiltiness- 5 the heathen- 6 exodus- 5 jamming- 5 waiting in vain- 5 turn your lights down low- 5 three little birds- 6 one love/ people get ready- 5
I wish I liked this more but these songs are just so ubiquitous to the point they feel cliche even though he's the originator. Still an enjoyable listen but just songs that have been over played and have crept in everywhere in pop culture for 50 years
Once again, fine, not great. Reggae is just not my thing, but pleasant enough to listen to from time to time.
Second Marley album - it's decent for me, but I'm just not drawn to Marley's sound that much. Ah well.
6/10
Bom album, excelente ritmo de baixo
Enough with the reggae already!
Bob Marley and this album has been crammed down my throat for decades at this point. That said, he was also my entry point for reggae and an undeniably great song writer and ambassador for the genre. But... I'm never choosing to listen to this again.
Quite enjoyed! Nick Drake album also yesterday (what are the chances?). Definitely like, not sure I’d seek him out for a relisten.
Some great songs, but nothing that exciting
Chill
Good stuff! I really liked Punky Reggae Party, So much things to say, guiltiness, and Jamming.
