i'm allergic to reggae. the fact that this is not a one-start review is that i appreciate that this is high-quality reggae...

It's alright. Not really into reggae and religious reggae even less, so the first half was disappointing. Since I have not been living under a rock,I have of course heard a few songs already but it isn't really for me.

This one was a bit of a hard listen. Not because the music was grating, but mostly just because I didn't really care about most of it and while some of the messages were commendable they were also pretty preachy sometimes, and I don't appreciate that very much Standouts Three Little Birds 2/5

Burned out on reggae in the 80s, sorry Bob. 2 stars for once being a feeling.

More of a summer album. Wouldn't have this in my everyday playlist but definitely in my summer playlist. I didn't really like 'the heathen.' I skipped 'Exodus' cuz it was 7 mins long. Stopped listening to the whole album half way through 'waiting in vain' since it just wasn't my type of music, i'm not interested in bob marley, and that if i don't like a genre i WILL get bored. reggae isn't usually a genre that i particularly enjoy on a daily basis.

If you are a reggae fan, this album is for you. Not my jam.

Heard before. Good album.

I know the hits, and I've always thought Three Little Birds and One Love were good songs. At the same time, I've never really gone out of my way to listen to them. Like, there's tons of classic songs I've heard a million times but still choose to listen again and again. I don't know, this wasn't unpleasant, it just didn't do a whole lot for me. I respect his legend, but that's where it ends for me for now.

3rd Bob Marley album from 130 generated, not for me

This album is OK. There is a good stretch of 5 very good songs (and great Bob Marley songs) in the middle of Exodus. But the songs on either side of thise 5 are too similar to each other. The version I listened to had 12 songs instead of 10. The last song, Punky Raggae Party, is a good song to leave you wanting more. I would also give this album 2.5 stars, but that is not an option, so I rounded down

Ok I'm stupid and deleted the whole thing I had written, so I'll try my best to explain what I thought without typing too much because I don't want to write all that again: I'm not a reggae fan so seeing bob marley as my first album was kind of a letdown. The first 3 tracks were a pleasant surprise, I still wouldn't consider myself a reggae fan but I see the genre differently, the keys, guitar and bass kind of compensate the horrible monotonous rythm. The title track blew me away and it's the only song I can say I really liked and I'd even call it a banger. I knew 2 songs before (Three Little Birds and Jamming), I didn't really like them and I don't really like them after listening the whole album either. Overall I believe the record is pretty good for its genre (It's definitely better than any other reggae I've ever listened to, not that it's much but it's a few songs) and a nice listen (I really liked how the songs blended into the next one in the first half of the record), which made me leave with a new appreciation of the smoothness of Reggae's instrumentals. Classic. Not totally my thing, but several very well known songs

Not my usual thing. Lyrical lucidity, howbeit mostly repetitive instrumental/rhythm. Three little birds is the best song on the album and even that is coloured by my endless exposure to it, hence it's a classic. Not to say that it doesn't deserve to be, and the message is sweet, though nothing extraordinarily profound.

Enjoyed this more on the second listen than the first. I guess I just don't really care for reggae - the songs flow together well, but feel a bit samey over the course of the album

While I can appreciate his talent which includes the music and lyrics, I just don't like reggae. This album was hard to make it through for that reason. The Atmos mix on Apple Music sounds good.

2 Really don’t have much to say about Bob Marley that I haven’t already said. I’m going to go with a 2 for the third straight time because I don’t consider any of his music bad per se, but it just doesn’t do anything for me, and I also don’t think this album does anything differently than the last two we’ve had. I don’t want to be that guy, but every song here sounds the same with just a slight tweak to each, and I listened to this 4 times in an earnest attempt to convince myself otherwise. Nothing is better or worse than anything else; it’s all just the same reggae style of guitar, drum, and vocal work that I find so boring - though I did groan when I saw that Three Little Birds is on this album. Look, I genuinely appreciate that the song holds a special place in so many people’s hearts due to its carefree, “Life is good” message, but personally, I’ve always found this song so goddamn cheesy and uninteresting. For the third straight time, I don’t feel like I heard anything here that has me convinced Bob Marley is an all-time great songwriter. Sorry folks, just not my thing.

Another artist I have never really listened to before aside from the big popular songs. A good chill-out, groovy album. Doesn't really speak to me so much but I can appreciate it for what it is. It all just becomes a bit repetitive and boring for me and reminds me of the wee stoner guys in high school lol. Waiting In Vain was probably my fave on this album.

Don't like reggae, don't care for it, never did, probably never will. I understand its importance in music and all but that's it. Listening to this was like torture. Musically speaking it wasn't bad so 2 stars, but I can live the rest of my life peacefully and never listen to anything like this again, and don't regret it. It's just all sounds the same to me. Maybe because I'm not a pothead.

Reggae is not the genre I’m used to. On the first listen, I didn’t really enjoy it, felt a bit repetitive, but also different, since it’s so far from what I normally enjoy. But after listening to it again, it kind of grew on me, definitely a feel-good type of music, I can see why others might enjoy it. Wouldn’t listen to the full album again, but there were some slightly more memorable songs: Natural Mystic, So Much Things To Say, Exodus, Waiting In Vain, Turn Your Lights Down. My favorite track was probably Waiting In Vain. Overall, not sure if Bob Marley is my thing, but I’m curious to listen to more Reggae. Probably won’t come back to this album, might listen to some songs on the occasion though.

I haven't listened to this all the way through in years. Appreciate the prominence of the bass in the mix and how its treated as a lead instrument. Exodus itself is a great track with the syncopation and horns that I think provide great musical accompaniment to the message of the song. And I'm a sucker for a People Get Ready cover, so those two tracks would be my highlights. In general though, it's a little too slow for my tastes. I'd rather pull out a live album or Songs of Freedom.

I don't think I have ever deliberately sat down and listened to a Bob Marley record but have heard so many songs over the years anyway. Bob is a good singer, the musicians are very skilled, the songs are alright. Very samey though. 2 stars.

The cursed trio of genres, so far - country, of course, avant-garde jazz and reggae. I am 'a little' biased against this types of albums even before I start listen to them, but I'm trying my best to give it a fair chance. Unfortunately, it's no different with Bob Marley's music. I know his lyrics are as important as Dylan's at times, but even songs like "One Love" have a generic reggae beat, which I have hard time to listen to. I won't give it 1 star, because it's still a big part of the history, but two is a max. No time for a better review.

Favourite Song - The Heathen One for Karaoke - Jammin One for a run - Three Little Birds Just not my cup of tea. I don’t have a spliff in my hand, I’m not arsed about Jesus and one love is like fetch…it’s never going to happen. I’m too much of a misery to appreciate this album I think. Someone tried to kill Bob Marley just before this album and he’s still singing about One Love and that. I can’t deny Jammin and Three Little Birds but as I type this I don’t remember any other song. ✌️

Just not a fan of Reggae. Lot of the songs over time have become trivialized and overplayed. Found it hard to sit through the whole album where most of the songs very similar. Fav song - Waiting in Vain, Natural Mystic Least fav song - So Much Things to Say, The Heathens Score - 5/10

Man, this guy REALLY like reggae, no? This is a type of music that you either dig or you don't. I dig - but only on certain occasions and certain tracks. I appreciate the importance of Marley more than I enjoy anything on this album; that rhythm and those guitars have always been a barrier for me because of the lack of variety my ears can pick up on. I'm sure there's nuance here from track to track. I just can't hear it. Clearly, this is a me problem. Maybe one of these days it'll click. But today is not that day.

I have always assumed to be the kind of person who'd really be into Bob Marley but no matter how many times I tried him, it never clicked. I tried to listen to this classic with more care, even reading the lyrics and reviews and background on the album to better appreciate it. I suppose I'll have to admit defeat with reggae and accept that I'll never fall in love with Bob Marley's music.

July 19, 2021 I think reggae is just not for me - there are some songs on here that I can tell would be classics but I just can't get into it. Very repetitive to me and since I'm more of a music than a lyrics person I don't think I'm getting the messaging as well as would be intended. Also, I'm pretty sure we used to play this album when I worked at Starbucks and anything to do with that hellscape is ruined for me now.

The only artist I know who’s albums are so over shadowed by his greatest hits album. I too am guilty of this and intend to rectify this from today.

1st half great, then it goes into a lot of the songs that I don't like so much - seem really childish...

I'm not vibing with Reggae. Like not at all. Sorry in advanced for all the Reggae records I'm not gonna appreciate. Gonna give it 2, because just because it's not for me doesn't mean it's bad.

Started the first half dozen song and HATED this album. I couldn’t understand it, the beats felt repetitive, the lyrics were cool but it didn’t matter since I Couldn’t understand them. But I came back and understood it. I didn’t like it but I understood it. I could handle of one of these songs came on, I’d dig it, but it drones on after about a half hour. Maybe I need another listen though At the end of the day I guess I can understand it but tht doesn't mean I like it.

Strongly dislike Marley.

I just can't get through a Bob Marley record! The history, legacy, context, the lore around Bob and his activism and impact, all of that is much more interesting to me than the actual music. As it stands on its own, I just think it's boring and repetitive. Probably a different vibe if you got to see Bob play live but hanging out at home in the office, I got through six songs without realizing I was on a new track.

Tinny drum roll, chugga ching chugga ching guitar bit, repeat ad nauseam. Yawn. I know I’m in the massive minority but I find listening to Bob Marley a thoroughly depressing experience. Just wish he’d lived a bit longer so there might at least be a bit more variety of dull songs in beach bars worldwide.

This album put me off Bob Marley and reggae for a very long time. Not his finest 50 minutes, by any stretch. Just find the whole thing a bit thin, in terms of songs and energy. I know it was meant to be a toe in the water for the non-reggae audience, but it had the opposite effect on me. Bland.

Damn, who knew that 3 minute songs can take so incredibly long. It's a very easy 1, but at the same time still much better (or less bad) than I had expected. Nonetheless, it's sooooooo boring. I didn't last 3 full songs.
