Reviews (page 9 of 13)

Good album, not something I'd want to sit and listen to by itself, but great for mellow background music to chill to

Really good to just chill and listen to this.

Not my favorite Marley (probably Rastaman Vibration for sentimental reasons or Burnin') but legendary for a reason. The whole side B is nonstop (Jamming > Waiting In Vain > Turn Your Lights Down Low > Three Little Birds > One Love / People Get Ready)

Another super solid record from Bob Marley & The Wailers. The formula doesn’t ever really change, but once again the political and socially charged songs are still mostly done right, the love songs remain gorgeous, the music and rhythms are hypnotic, and the production is excellent.

Great album. Great to wake up to and set yourself up with a good mood. 8/10

Just great chill Bob Marley music, I feel like there's not much more I can describe it with. I thought the first half of the album was weaker but the second half is so strong is makes up for that. Some of my favorite of his songs are here including Three Little Birds. 7/10

By now Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer were long gone and Bob was on a tear spreading the word of reggae. This might be the crowning achievement, a classic album of memorable songs, "Jamming" and "Three Little Birds" being the obvious highlights, but the whole album is a solid groove.

Listened to 3 ish songs. It’s definitely Bob Marley all right

to be totally honest i got bored......i can't fault it but i liked it less than i thought

Not a reggae fan but I still love this album for the opener and „Jamming“. Listened to the record at least a thousand times in my teenage days.

Love Marley!

A classic album. I like a lot of the songs on it, but while the rest is okay, none of them are really bad.

Lots of familiar classics. Didn’t know so many of bob’s hits were from the same album. Perfect vacation listening.

Reggae, super, 1977

Obviously heard of Bob Marley, and do quite enjoy Reggae here and there. Quite liking the vibe right off the bat, and reckon I might actually add this to my library.

I want to say not for every mood, but listening to this just forces you into a certain state of mind. I wouldn't choose it every day, but it's got so many classic tracks you can't deny the album's lasting sound and impact. Fav Tracks: Waiting in Vain, Jamming, Three Little Birds, One Love

4/5 I liked 'Catch a fire' a bit more, but this was great as well!

Relaxing brilliant

This is probably the peak of classic reggae for me. Bob Marley's best work and catchiest tunes. We be jammin! 4/5.

A fun listen and my first time listening to Bob Marley.

Favorite tracks: Natural Mystic, Jamming, Waiting In Vain, Three Little Birds Rating: 4/5

Really unique. Quality.

Bob kertoo mitä kansa tekee.. bob itse jumalana kaiken yläpuolella heh näkee asiat obj.. kuin meikä poika konsanaan.. amplified on this album.. siitä +1 star vrt natty dread.. alettu ymmärtää.. juurikin natty dreadiin on aikalailla kaikella tapaa paljon varmempi tuotos.. ei pelkää enää turvatua blues kikkailuihin ollaan täysin raggae ja bold oma ääni..

Every little thing gonna be alright

let's get together and feel alright :0 beautiful album Rating: 8.1/10

You know you've made it big when you survive an assassination attempt. After making waves in Jamacia, Bob Marely nearly loses his life with a poorly-aimed gunshot to the arm. He would flee to London soon after, hence the name Exodus. Exodus is the peak of Bob Marley and the Wailers: smooth, groovy, and full of purpose. An incredibly pleasant listen that makes me appreciate the finer elements of reggae.

perfect album outside of a few songs i didn't enjoy. but great top to bottom

Šis mani aizveda atpakaļ uz laiku, kad devītās klases latviešu valodas runāšanas eksāmenā vajadzēja stāstīt par kādu sevis izvēlētu tēmu, mana - Roberts Nesta Mārlijs. I do enjoy reggae from time to time and I think that Bob is one of the best ones. Overall this album was a bit boring. But three little birds will never get old 💖🐦💖🐦💖🐦💖 cuz every little thing is gonna be allright 🎶💖🐦 Three little birds - 10/10 All other songs on this album 6/10 I'd really love to visit Jamaica sometime!

Nice sounds

I don't fw reggae. It was chill and moody but boring.

Really good, opened my ears to reggae properly. Great tracks, easy listening

very good album

Pretty much the gold standard of reggae. Chill vibe, island felling.

Good reggea, stoner vibes

Classic

Good, but very repetitive.

I don’t listen to a lot of reggae so maybe I should give this another shot. I really liked it but I feel like I’m still missing something.

Probably Bob’s best produced and well known album. The songs are great and feature some of his best work, though I prefer some of his other stuff more. 4.5/5 Will listen again

Jeg er i utgangspunktet ikke veldig glad i reggae, men fanker'n dette er bra saker. Albumet gjør meg i enda bedre humør, og låta "Three Little Birds" er fantastisk bra.... "Baby don't worry. Everything is gonna be alright"

The back half of this album comes in strong! Jamming, Three little birds, and One Love. All time album 4.5/5

Liked it

very funky but i had fun relaxing to this album in la. obviously it’s has classics like three little birds and jamming, however i enjoyed natural mystic and gultiness

Em dúvida entre jamming ou one love, como melhores musicas do album Good album, bom para apenas existir enquanto tomo água de coco deitado na praia

Reggaezinho classico. O álbum perfeito para passar uma tarde tranquila curtindo o vento e a vida. • natural mystic melhor de todas • vou ficar a semana inteira cantarolando three little birds

Filled with classic tunes I've heard for years. Reminds me of buying "Legend" while in New Zealand for the first time (2000? 2001?). Super strong album. Also surprised it came out in 1977, would have thought 5 years earlier. Also really impressive how the island of Jamaica created a musical style that shook the world (at least for a bit). Still shakes mountain towns and white kid dormrooms in Boulder lol.

Understand why some think it's too samey, but to me there was enough variation going on in the background to keep my attention throughout. It's also just fun to listen to.

So many hits take attention away from a solid album. Torn between a 4 and a 5. Let's call it 4 and a half stars.

Simplesmente Bob Marley. Muito foda e várias pedradas como Jamming, Exodus, Three Little Birds e One Love

Album enregistré aux UK après une tentative d'assassinat. C'est celui qui l'a mis su'a map. Solide album

Obvious classic, can just jam and chill

Bastante bueno. De inmediato se nota un buen álbum. Agradable sorpresa escuchar a Bob Marley más de fondo.

good vibes got a 48 on a menders quiz lololol but the rest of my day was pretty good

Oh man my subwoofers love this album. My walls are moving.

Reading the other reviews there are a lot of people that "don't like reggae" but "love this album". Whilst not a genre I'm overly familiar with, of course all the hits are here. The blend of "chilling at a beach shack" with the hint of spiritual overtones is clearly very impressive and there's a lot to love here. Stick it on in the background on a cold winter's day, or whilst grilling on the BBQ on a hot day - it still works.

4. Pretty chill album. Title track is a little boring and feels way too long.

Fun album with some true classics.

Pretty chill vibes. Some of the songs were too repetitive for me.

Such a great album. I love all the songs.

Good, not perfect, Good lyrics but in the end it's just a good reggae album

Excellent

Inspiring... to kill myself for my worthlessness... inspiring to be more. To be positive and lead and grow. Title song hit hard. I felt a dam break. It drowned me and washed my useless body ashore.

Have listened before. It’s good.

Chill vibes

Initial thoughts: Title track (track 5), was low probably the weakest song. But then its followed up by the classic Jammin'. Halfway through, solid 4/5. Alexis says album is enhanced if I light up, we'll see if I partake lmao Final thoughts: Great reggae album. Definitely a staple in the genre, and a great example of why Bob Marley is still as famous as he is.

Le meilleur de bob

Good Marley album.

liked this album a lot.

Just amazing. The way Bob Marley can use Reggae for fun boppy music, powerful protest songs, and mellow love songs is just astounding. All of the instruments and background vocals blend together in perfect harmony to convey the experience.

Pretty chill tunes, made a chalice out of a sprite bottle to this

More trance and less happy than other Marley stuff, perfect for rolling up and smoking

standard solid Bob Marley Album

Bob Marley knew. This is a classic album. I've never listened to so many reggies in a row before, it was quite a shock.

Great listen, really chill

First Bob Marley record ! Liked it very much !

Surprisingly pleasant listening from start to finish, holds up very well after so many years.

Was never a huge fan but this album is very cool.

The album takes a bit of time to get going, but the mixing is really excellent. I'm not sure if it's because I'm listening to a remaster. Some of the songs drag, but there's also so many jams! I can see why it's a classic.

good reminder that the greatest hits on that ubiquitous record came from somewhere

Comment ne pas aimer les rythmes, les cuivres, le parfum jazzé et l'optimisme indéfectible qui teinte ces chansons? Ça en vient presque à éclipser les thèmes politiques plus sérieux, que je suis quand même heureuse d'y trouver.

Cool vibes

Second half rocks harder than the first, but pretty great

Exodus is filled with classic songs with a chill feel and profound meaning. I can’t listen to it all the time, but there’s nothing better when I’m in the right mood.

Either I'm in a better mood, or this is far far better than the serviceable, but a bit boring, Natty Dread. Obviously there are more recognisable hits but I've heard 3 Little Birds and One Love so many times that is potentially a negative. Can never hear Jammin too many times though, funny how that works. Love the darker feeling of side 1. I never need to hear 3 Little Birds ever again. Great song but one of the most overplayed songs of all time.

Starts good and that second half is fire

4/5. Bob Marley is always a great listen. Aside from the usual “Three Little Birds”, I especially enjoyed Natural Mystic. Fantastic song, and an instant add to my music list.

Pleasant enough mood music with topical lyrics. Relevant beyond its genre boundaries.

Relaxing, chill. Some songs that i like, nice.

Yup. It's bob marley

Never been a fan of reggae, but man this album is good. Makes me realize how much of a virtuoso you have to be to just invent a genre of music by yourself. Super cool to listen to.

Every song is a great listen. For me, something the put on perhaps in the background and just relax to

Unexpectedly good

very jammy

listened to again this is the quintessential Marley album

A classic album full of good vibes. Four stars only because reggae isn't really my thing.

By far the pinnacle of it's genre. Was a real delight to listen to. 4.5/5

Not really my things, but very chill and easy to listen to

It was good with a lot of well known hits. Although I am still reminded of Chief Wiggum singing along. It is relatively short album which means the songs were well produced and well edited. I would listen to it again.

what a classic album, wait in vain just might be my favorite reggae song of all time

Pleasant, uplifting, classics 4/5

EXODUS, MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE. Love this one. 4.2/5

4/5 good, has quite a few flaws

This one's the one with all the hits. Not as annoying as I often find it and by the end I was bopping away, so its charm is pretty infectious.

добротный, светлый регги алкоальбом: каннабис под пиво

Classic BM.

Liked it! Pleasant and catchy.

Going into this, it will probably be a 4 / 5 unless there is something to drag it down. Near perfect runtime (~40 min) and a stacked tracklist with Exodus > Jamming > Waiting in Vain in the middle and Three Little Birds > One Love / People Get Ready closing it out. The rest of the songs are serviceable, if forgettable.

Inoffensive pop reggae bangers

Always have loved the standouts but never gave the full album a listen. Really enjoyed it all the way through despite not being huge into reggae.

Yeah bob Marley man

Good vibe but could only listen to this kind of music for so long because it’s not really my thing

Highlights: "Waiting in Vain," "Exodus," "Jamming," "The Heathen" It seems like this album stands out for adding higher production to the sound Marley had developed over the past decade. The keys and synths are especially strong compared to the earlier albums, although all the elements sound great -- the vocals, the drums, etc. It could be released today to equal success. It holds the genre in a resilient, timeless place. It does also feel, though, like this album achieved broader success by walking back Marley's political messages to some more universal (vague) material that flatters both the WASP and the secular consumerist -- the exceptions are the most musically awkward piece, "So Much Things to Say," and of course, the songs that assert fornication as a religious imperative. It's just a bizarre position for most non-Rasta listeners. I'm not sure it's a good sign that this album is the source of most of his hits, because even as so much material here can win you over, a lot of those hits are the kind of blithe material that causes people to write off reggae in the first place.

4 at least

day 20 and another repeated artist. It’s like the algorithm says oh you didn’t like this? You’re gonna try again in a week! This is a good album. Good songs both well-known and new to me, and there is more variety and conciseness to this one that I appreciate compared to the last album I reviewed, -checks notes-, Catch a Fire. new faves: Natural Mystic, Waiting in Vain. I guess I appreciate the songs without the backup singers’ echos. Exodus is also a jam, just too long and repetitive for my taste. I appreciate this album more knowing that he wrote it after surviving attempted assassination and exiling to London. Still cranking out infectious, feel-good songs that still resonate today. Just a pure soul. While the religious themes don’t personally hit with me, the tunes can transcend that so that anyone can find something to love. solid 4/5 for me.

Great vibes

Uppskattade detta

Just the right album for a holiday weekend. The driving beats. The songs that are familiar. The songs that aren’t as famous. It all mixes nicely together to make a really good album. 4/5

Ik ben geen enorme Bob Marley fan, maar op dit album komt het wel allemaal perfect samen.

Ik heb een zwak voor de zorgeloze, relaxte liedjes van Bob.

I have always loved Bob Marley - he's a huge talent. This album has some amazing tracks (Natural Mystic, Exodus and Jamming), but also unfortunately some annoying tunes (Three Little Birds) that stop me giving it a 5. It is a little over-exposed in the beach bars of SE Asia, but you can't blame him for that.

Chill, relaxing, fun album, one of the best of reggae.

4/5. I’m not a huge reggae guy but Exodus was a pretty moving experience. You can feel the sadness in each song as Marley tries his best to convey his campaign for peace. Some classics for sure but even the other songs are repeated listens. Best song: Exodus, One Love

All the classics. Great, but I can only take so much reggae.

A chill album filled with wisdom and love from Mr Marley himself.

reggae

Je pensais que le raggae me taperait sur le système après trois chansons, mais non, c'était une belle expérience et cet album a de superbes chansons

PREFS : Natural Mystic, The Heathen, Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, One Love/People Get Ready MOINS PREF : Turn Your Lights Down Low

Yep, this is pretty great

Delightful. Bob and the Wailers are jammin'. I like jammin', too.

IDK if I've ever listened to this album. I think all my Bob Marley listening was Legend. This was a great record.

Vibes!

This one is also really a 3.5 to me, BUT it deserves its place in the history of music and in this list, so I'll give it a four. There are maybe a few fillers, but the hits are so strong and will be forever remembered.

Own it. Didn't love it as much as Rastaman Vibration. Still good.

I'll never not like listening to this

oh yah (fav songs: natural mystic, the heathen, exodus, jamming, three little birds, one love/people get ready)

Well, for being "not a fan of reggae", I have enjoyed my time with Bob Marley in this project. I much preferred the second half of the album over the first, and I think that may have left me less reggae-weary than I think that I would typically be after a full album. Thank you for the education, 1001...

Maybe it is the mellow pace or something but reggae is not really a genre I’ve ever been able to connect to. My younger sister loved this stuff when we were teenagers, but despite her many efforts I didn’t enjoy it. I put this on expecting to fall into the usual reggae 2-3 ranking range. I sort of listened on autopilot until the title track really piqued my interest. Hmmmm… There’s a lot I liked about this album. The songs and specifically the arrangements were a bit more interesting than I was expecting. I think I’ve found an entry point on which to appreciate more this genre.

Great album, haven't listened to that much reggae, but I've listened to a lot of dub. I like the more modern style used on a lot of the songs on this.

So good, love this!

Such an easy listen

v chill album! a good morning listen

Side 2 of this album is incredible

⭐ Jamming

Relentlessly hypnotic groove and snap. Takes you somewhere else with both lyric and sound. Lack of width blocks perfection.

Nice album. Liked it.

Big vibes and great spirit throughout.

Interesting use of rhythm. The Jamaican accent is rhythmically playful. Jamming is my favourite track on this album.

Por Three Little Birds se merece un 4. Agradable, y eso que a mí no me gusta el reggae

Top tier album. Great music, great lyrics and singing

Not a fan of raggae, but some of the songs are good. 3.5

Pretty f'ing d, although the album seemed to last for about 16 hours, not that I was complaining.

The hits are very good still thing its one kf bobs weakest albhms

Unsurprisingly chill. Soothing background music.

Bob Marley delivers as usual. This album is overall a great album. It's got a great dynamic between mellow reggae (Jamming) and surprisingly punchy style (Exodus).

Bob Marley’s Exodus is brim-filled with songs that are ingrained into the global cultural cache that it is nearly impossible to distinguish its quality from its time-tested ubiquity. and yet, while listening to the songs collectively, it is easy to see the heart so warmly embedded into the record by Marley, a preacher of human unity who’s plea for peace can be heard loud and clear in the music — even when he is not singing. that’s really the album’s strong suit here: the groovy reggae compositions are too sweet to ignore. Marley weaves light rock and blues influences that give the oft-repetitive structure of the reggae some variety. the lyrics are rich with ideas of love and community, even though at times Marley’s writing is clunky and uneven. and so you’re forced to return to the music itself — the bongo in the background; the trumpet showing up every other beat: it all makes for a calm, vibey listen that relaxes in all the right ways.

Another album I'm very familiar with and have regularly listened to since college. It's not my favorite Marley album as I prefer the fiery older material (Burnin'/Natty Dread), but there's some absolute classics on here and the album as a whole is never less than very good. I prefer the "romantic" side to the "religious" side for sure as I think all of side B is the highlight here for me. I'd give Side A a 4.0 and Side B a 5.0, so that naturally leads to:

It's the album I often see cited as Bob Marley's definitive studio album and for good reason, as it showcases his militant/political and mellow/romantic sides in equal measure. It's not my favourite Marley album though, "Kaya" probably takes that (of all albums, amirite?). favs: The Heathen, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds least fav: Guiltiness (if I had to pick one)

Exeter! Movement of Jaa People!

Kinda slid by. Good album but also good summer wallpaper

"Exodus" into "Jamming" are two great cuts from this album. "Three little birds" of course, is a timeless classic. I think you can appreciate this album more when you know context - that it was recorded after Marley's assassination attempt in London. Very good record.

Really enjoyed the organ chords and groove on the tracks. The second half of the album is great fun, but the first half isn't bad either. Edit: This is the one rating that haunts me, I don't think I'm ready to give this a 5, but I like it a lot more than that initial write up. We'll see...

classic, full of hits

Very laid back, very groovy. Lovely pop songs. Exodus is one long groove and I haven't even looked at the lyrics! Another all time great album.

For most of my life I've never been that much into reggae. Of course i've heard the big hits and while I do enjoy the laidback vibes, I just never felt compelled to dive into the genre more. So here goes! I like the general message and vibes of the songs, drums are tight, great pumping bass lines, nice keyboard and guitar melodies, the solo in The Heathen particularly was very good! All in all, I liked most of this album, and It opened me a bit more towards reggae! Key tracks are: Natural Mystic, Guiltiness, The Heathen, Exodus, Jamming, Turn Your Lights Down Low, Three Little Birds, One Love / People Get Ready. 8.5 out of 10

we're jammin' oh yes

Always had a soft spot for Bob Marley.

Not a fan of reggae but found this album more accessible than I expected. A good mix of musical styles and some classic songs.

This is a great album. Some fantastic music by some great musicians and some great melodies. No filler and some serious all time hits.

It's typical Marley, good but not my usual type of stuff

Seeehr chill und gut. Fast 5 Sterne, aber ein paar Lieder sind dann doch ein bisschen zu langweilig? Bestes Album bisher!

Absolutely brilliant. Will buy it.

I've had Jammin' stuck in my head for about 24hrs now

Excellent

Very nice. Not new to me, but it's a been a little while. I enjoyed the listen.

I know this is a trend, but I like hearing some of these albums where I know some songs but only from Greatest Hits albums -- nice to hear them in their original settings. Was thinking a solid 3 stars before Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, and One Love pushed it to a 4 at the end

Listened many times to this classic.

Bueno pues con "Exodus", "Waiting in vain", "One love" y "Three little birds" no se puede pedir mucho a un disco. 4 estrellas directas.

Прослушано! Боб Марли всегда хорош. Альбом классный!

Great music. As least 6 stellar tracks on the album, and they all hold up pretty wide. Really enjoy the Bob Marley reggae vibe. Easy to listen to on repeat.

Good album. The only dud title for me is Turn Your Lights Down Low, which isn't even a bad song, just the weakest of a strong tracklist. Of the songs the average person doesn't know, Guiltiness and The Heathen are both outstanding. This is the toughest rating for me - I'm going 4 stars today though I could easily go 5 stars depending on the day I'm listening to it.

Reggae is not something I would typically put on, but what can I say – it was an enjoyable album.

pretty epic, heard a lot of the songs before over time. mainly cus my dad played em all the time but yea it’s good stuff

jamming 😤

Classic post assassination attempt stuff right here

Reggae is a genre of music I typically only enjoy in small doses. I appreciate, as best I can, the larger cultural importance of artists like Bob Marley, but when it comes to the music, I find that the similar tempos, rhythms, and song structures get monotonous after a few tunes. I think three (at least) songs on this album begin with that identical steelpan drum intro that is like the reggae version of the Intel logo — you know what's coming next. So with that caveat/admission aside, this is clearly a brilliant album by an artist in his prime. Lots of enduring classics, a band in great form, and an interesting blend of religious/social themes and personal stories of a man looking for love. I never considered that Prince might be a big reggae fan, but that juxtaposition of spirituality and sexuality struck me as I listened to the album. Whether or not I'm inclined to return to listen to this album in its entirety, I appreciate that it's really damned good.

I never heard reggae until Freshman year of college. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh touched a groove. While one might listen to this album and hear overplayed reggae hits, they are the hits because these songs are just so good. I listened to this album walking around Washington DC so I couldn’t take notes. But I can say it’s a most awesome album to turn on and vibe around town on a sunny day.

I had actually never listened to a single reggae album before. I knew that Bob Marley and this album were iconic so, needless to say, the expectations were high. Well for context I have been listening to Haunted Mound all day which is rather intense to put it lightly so listening to this album was a create palette-cleanser for the night. Relaxing instrumentals and nice rhythms, i guess. FAV tracks: jamming, natural mystic

Favourite song: Three Little Birds One for the Karaoke: One Love One for the Car: Jamming Every little thing gonna be alright

Amazing. Different tones throughout. “Guiltiness” followed by “The Heathen” shows that. Solid all around.

Un classique du Reggae!

Good album that contains some of my fav Bob Marley songs (waiting in vain, Jammin). 4/5

The Reggae Record.

Sehr geiles Reggae-Album

Calming

A classic.

12th August 2022 Started listened whilst high in our tent in Cornwall with Joe and Adna for a laugh. Finished on Monday while working from home. Amazing how someone can totally embody a genre of music. Smooth and soulful but with an edge, Bob Marley has created music that is both free and fierce.

A really chill and relaxing album, but it was unexpected how the whole album went together so well. The second half is so well known, but each song sounds fresh and together it all flows perfectly.

Bob and the Boys Wailing away to some serious classic reggae.

Bob Marley defined reggae for me and every American before me. Protest songs, love songs, songs of joy and praise. Iconic.

good stuff, listened with riggs

I liked Jamming and Punky Reggae Party the most. Theres a time and płace for reggae for sure!

Gotta say "Natural Mystic" was an amazing opener and raised my expectations for the rest of the album, but nothing else came quite close to that groovy tension, and I was left wanting more. Still, I enjoyed some of the more chill, laid back tracks, and overall a classic album. Standout Tracks: Natural Mystic, Jamming, Waiting In Vain

Good. Album was new to me, though the main songs weren't

One of his finest

Nice and chill - soothing. Funky beats

Listened to on 7/13/22 4/5 Favorite song: Exodus, Three Little Birds This album was so good - love the Caribbean vibes but wish I was drinking on a beach

Good album with some all-time classics by Bob Marley towards the end (Three Little, Birds, Jammin), but the start of the album was just okay. Would give a 4.5 if possible but going with a 4.

Up there with the best reggae albums Iv heard

Rođendanski i dobar je. Vibe dok sam čistila kupaonicu. Al naravno ne bih svrstala album u one za slušanje dok čistiš kupaonicu. Bolji je od toga

Dobar je Bob i Wailersi.

A great reggae album. I'd say an iconic album for this genre, plagued of all time hits. I like it!

Tiene muchas canciones que me gustan y que escucho desde los 90 que fue cuando descubrí a Marley. Waiting in Vain y Jamming son mis favoritas

Really enjoyed and can tell it’s a classic.

Some of Bob’s greatest songs

8/10 Best Song - Three Little Birds

Muy Pacheco 😂

"Don't Worry 'bout a thing. Every little thing is gonna be alright. " This is a good one! The first four songs are fine, but they don't compare to the rest of the album. Songs 5-10 are exceptional. Three Little Birds is my all-time favorite. Classics: Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, One Love/People Get Ready. 4/5

Yeah ok, it's reggae, it's Bob. Interesting story. Faves: Exodus, Jamming, One Love

I always say to myself that I prefer reggae at the rootsier end of the spectrum...and then this polished, pop-oriented album comes along and makes a mockery of my supposed convictions. Anchored by probably the finest rhythm section in reggae, this is full of bangers - I'm not even a huge fan of 'Three Little Birds' not 'One Love / People Get Ready', and it doesn't matter because everything preceding these is solid gold. And these two tunes, whilst a bit saccharine for my tastes, are perfectly listenable. 'Jamming' is playful, with a great vocal hook in the verse; 'Natural Mystic' lopes along with a kicky, underrated bassline; and 'Waiting In Vain' is a lovely song brimming with yearning. Oh well - back to The Congos for me!

Reggae music con la calma. Un 4.

Por Three Little Birds se merece un 4. Agradable, y eso que a mí no me gusta el reggae

My problem with this album is that it makes me wish I was on a Caribbean vacation, but instead I'm at work.

I’m not much of a Bob Marley fan. This album may change that.

Boring but lyrics were deep

Although not usually a genre I enjoy, the infectiousness and commitment of Bob Marley is hard to ignore and there is a freshness and energy to his approach which is winning. So many memorable hits are here and the production sparkles.

Some absolute and nostalgic classics on this seminal album

Great album, has waiting in vain on it

Ég á svolítið erfitt með Reggae. Þótt það sé að mörgu leyti skemmtilegt er eitthvað element í því sem ég er ekki að dansa við. Þetta er mjög áheyrileg plata og margt þarna hefur maður vissulega heyrt mjög oft. Góð, en ég mun ekki leita hana uppi aftur.

Really enjoyed this one. As it's the winter that will never end, I'm excited about the possibility of sitting outside when it's 75 degrees out and listening to an album that seems like it's meant to be listened to in open air. "Side B" of the album contains all the hits.

Good stuff. Although I do get the sense after this album that once you hear a few reggae songs, you've heard all of them. Not that this is a bad thing, but it does get a little samey after a while.

we jammin

Classic reggae! : ]

I was jammin!

I was pleasantly surprised by this album! Bob Marley is obviously a well-known icon even in today's world, but I wasn't too familiar with his music before listening to 'Exodus' (it's actually tough for me to think of another artist THAT iconic that I can name less songs from. Tupac maybe?). The one song I knew for sure was 'Three Little Birds' which originally came from this record. While that song is pretty good, I felt that this album as a whole reached some greater heights than I originally anticipated based off of that one track. I am not familiar with the reggae genre at all, but I find it difficult to imagine an album topping this one for me. While I still feel that this type of music seems to blend into one another, these songs all had clear messages, smooth vibes, and very clear instrumentation/production throughout. It was a calm listen that caught my attention a few times over its short length. 'Waiting In Vain' was my personal favorite (got that track added to my Starred list), but I didn't find any of the songs on here objectively bad. It wasn't enough to convert me into a full-on reggae or Marley fan immediately, but I did have a good time going through this one and might throw it on again in the future. 3.5/5.

You can't listen to this without bobbing (pun intended) your head along. Gorgeous, catchy production and infectious lyrics.

Classic reggae. The back half of the album is where all the famous tracks are.

Solid album that’s a pleasure to listen to.

Always good.

Luv da ray guy mon

Now that’s one funky reggae party. Had me boppin all day long at work. Prove to me that it’s not Will Ferrell on the cowbell on Turn Your Lights Down Low…

I love this album, and it’s admittedly a bit of a nostalgia trip. The driving rhythm and urgency of Exodus to the relaxed persistence of Waiting in Vain show the masterful musicianship and songwriting that I think is often overlooked in reggae as a genre.

Classic. Reminds me of summer barbecues.

Really good album with some mega hits and an overall great reggae vibe. Will listen again and again.

A top tier example of reggae, which can often sound so similar and one-speed throughout the genre when not done well, but this is done very well. An okay start, good middle and a legendary finish with two of the most feel-good songs ever written, 4/5 because it has loads of replayability and resonates 50 years after it came out.

This is the opposite of most of the albums we've listen to - the first few songs are fine, but nothing special, and then it kicks up a gear or two when you hit the middle of the album. Exodus - Jamming - Waiting In Vain - Turn Your Lights Down Low - Three Little Birds - One Love/People Get Ready is as good a run as we've had so far. 4/5. Not something I'll listen to regularly, it's not really my style of music, but of the limited amount of reggae that I'll listen to, most of it is on this album.

Simply amazing. Very well produced and has 6/10 hits. IMO it's less about Reggae and more a platform for Bob so it's comes down to "do you like him or not".

Not a huge fan, but I do like to listen to some Marley from time to time.

Nice, chill, relaxing vibes. I would listen to it again.

A pretty solid outing from Bob Marley & the Wailers until it falls off a cliff with two of the most annoying (and misrepresentative) songs in their discography. The fact that it actually ends the original release (not including the two bonus tracks) is mind boggling in and of itself. Good thing Punky Reggae Party exists in the bonus edition. Favorites: Everything except One Love/People Get Ready and Three Little Birds.

Classic.

A wonderful record with great messages, made even more amazing by the fact that he truly believed and lived by it.

This album has my my two favorite Marley songs, "Waiting in Vain" and "Three Little Birds." It really is an album divided into two parts. Side 1 or the first five songs ending in " Exodus" is more serious focused on political issues. Bob Marley left Jamicia to London after a failed assassination attempt where he recorded this. Side 2 totally changes direction, almost a different album and the focus is "having fun" and hope. Besides the above mentioned songs, it also includes "Jamming" and "One Love", all hits. Apparently, this sound was not quite the reggae style of time in Jamica, incorporating more blues, soul and rock. I can't comment on that since this was my introduction to reggae and I have not dug that deep into the reggae style and history. An excellent album.

Banger after banger. The last minute or so of the title track drives me wild. 4.25

great album!

Really nice and elevated by a trio of huge heavy hitters in 'Jamming', 'Three Little Birds' and 'One Love/People Get Ready'.

I think this might be the peak Bob Marley album - chill vibes throughout, featuring all of Exodus, Jamming, Three Little Birds and One Love. A slow start loses the shot at the fifth star but I very much enjoyed listening to this.

Half of the songs on this album are true classics! The rest are just damn good! 4/5

I really enjoyed this, have listened to BM over the years but never a complete album. Was pleasantly surprised that so many of his well known hits were on one album, one I would listen to again

I really like the guitar on "Natural Mystic." The next few tracks felt didn't deliver anything particularly special, and it turns out "Exodus" is a bit repetitive. But "Jamming," "Three Little Birds," and "One Love" do plenty to carry this album. To follow up on hellyeah, not only is it crazy that Marley died of melanoma, but that the kind of melanoma he got has an average age of onset between 60 and 70 years, and an 67% 10-year survival rate. Too many musical tragedies where we can only wonder how the artist would have evolved over a longer career. What would the 80s and 90s have been like if Marley, Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Lennon, and others had been alive? What would the 00s have been like if Cobain, Biggie, 2Pac, and so many others had still be around? For an even further tangent, because I started thinking more about the alternate world where Cobain lived to grow old... if Kurt stuck around, would there never have been the Foo Fighters. If Andrew Wood lived, would Pearl Jam have never existed?

absolute classic

So many hits on 1 album

Cool und unterhaltsamer als gedacht. Auch wenn es immer derselbe Rhythmus ist, nicht langweilig.

First listen to a reggae album, didn't give full attention so can't rate properly, but would listen again

This album bore 5 singles and three of them were monster hits for Bob so there’s that. But apart from those singles I found the songs to be too preachy and political and basically complaining about the same thing, ad nauseum, so it gets tiresome after awhile. However, there were those monster hits that must be acknowledged.

This was a pretty damn good album. I'm still learning to appreciate reggae more, and Bob Marley makes it super accessible, so I can dig it.

Reggea ist immer chillig. Von allen Reggea Songs sind die meisten bekannten/besten hier drin

Not my favourite Marley album but still a great record.

Not as good as I remember but still an absolute dime.

Fantastic. Loved this album and hearing all the songs I hadn’t heard from Bob before. 8/10

love me some bob marley

Classic Bob. Like musical medicine. Love it.

Some real classics in there. Very revolutionary type vibe. power to the people.

While I am not a huge fan of reggae music. This album undeniably creates a great vibe, brings joy to the soul and doesn't outstay it's runtime. Full of songs that have become extremely iconic and well known.

Let's get together and feeeeel alright

This is Bob Marley and I'm very happy to see it on the list. This is not the best thing that I listened here, but for sure it fits all the characteristics of a classcial.

Very strange to hear these songs in order rather than individually on the radio

Liked everything about this. 4.5+

Probably merits a 3-3.5 because it's light outside of the hits but based on influence and my own enjoyment I'm feeling like a 4.

nice cheerful reggae with 3 bangers and the rest is good too

I always enjoy Bob Marley’s stuff. Very masterful and a cut up above in reggae. The only real problem is that after him, who is there? Very few other reggae stars you can think of off the top of your head. I have heard most of this in collections or live performances, so it was nice to hear a couple imof tracks I had missed.

Wow. I'm actually not a huge fan of reggae but this album is amazing. It was clever of Bob Marley to split it the way he did too by putting the spiritual and political songs on side 1 and the songs about sex and relationships on side 2. This is my favorite Wailers album (even though technically they broke up but he kept the name). There was one track (on side 2 I think) where you can hear his influence on some of Sting's singing as well. I also enjoyed this enough to listen to the bonus tracks and bonus live disk and can't help but wonder if Sepultura's "Roots Bloody Roots" was a lyrical homage to Marley's "Roots".

One of my favorites, close to a 5

It’s Exodus- what else is there to say. All the songs are good, and the album sits well as a collection of them. The production is also spot on. Only 4 stars because, though like every Bob Marley song is good, One Love always seems to hog the spotlight. Bob Marley at least to me has been played to death, but I still respect his musicianship and songs. Still, play something else god damnit !

I never had them down as much of an album act but this is very strong. Lots of recognisable songs and the album tracks are decent too

Enjoyed it

Solid album. Lot of songs I grew up with. (8/10) Favorite Tracks : Three little birds, One Love

funky beachy Christian music
