Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Some classics on here like One Love and Jamming. A lot of good vibrations and a classic reggae album. 3.5

I'm not a fan of reggae music. It reminds me of young rich white people being perpetually high and annoyingly apolitical because the only message they get from the music is peace and love. I don't consider myself a cynic, but I am worried and every little thing is not going to be alright, Robert. Anyway, once I got to Three Little Birds, I caught myself singing along to the chorus, so I guess I'm a fraud.

the only reason i've given it 3* is because i'm not a huge reggae fan, not because it's a bad album. i can fully appreciate that this is an easy 5* for a lot of people, but it just doesn't do much for me. with that being said, i did really enjoy some tracks, particularly 'jamming' - i loved the vocal harmonies in it and the overall groove of it. it did feel a little too repetitive for me, with the instrumentation of most songs sounding fairly similar but i do understand that that's part of the genre.

It's easy listening, however most of the songs blur into one another. It reminds me of Jack's dad. Also, I might have enjoyed this more in the summer

I have never listened to this album, but I felt like I'd listened to this album already. Where I grew up, bands were doing this over and over again. Katchafire etc. A big staple of New Zealand culture (and summer). As a result, I didn't really enjoy it. It slung itself into the background (like the soundtrack of a bbq?). A few catching songs in there, but apart from Jammin' and Three Little Birds, my ears didn't prick up much. 3 Stars.

Best Track - "Three Little Birds"

Ya know what? Not the worst thing I’ve heard. I was really dreading this bc I know this isn’t my genre. However, I can appreciate the easy listening and meaning behind the lyrics Bob Marley sang. I won’t continue listening to this, but I can appreciate it more!

Enjoyed and has a couple classics but don't know if this is 4 territory for me

Quintessential reggae. Marley and the wailers brought the genre into the lime light. Still, I prefer Jimmy Cliff, but that doesn’t diminish this album.

So easy going

Not a big fan of reggae, but this is a good one. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Exodus, Jamming, Waiting In Vain, One Love / People Get Ready My ratings are kind of based on general vibes and how many tracks I save to my Deezer profile -- ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.

This album takes me back to my introduction to Bob Marley and Reggae music.

-yooo im getting this exactly one year after Catch A Fire… nice -this was good! for some reason it didn’t stand out to me nearly as much as Catch A Fire did, but it was still cool getting to hear a slightly more classic and warmer sound from him -Favorites are Exodus and Three Little Birds

Not into reggae, but still some bangers in there

34/1089 Natural Mystic is a cool opening track and The Heathen is another strong one. Turn Your Lights Down Low is a nice vibe. How did i not know/remember that Don’t Worry, Be Happy is actually called ‘Three Little Birds’? it’s a classic for a reason, such a nice listen it’s a really nice reggae album and has some highlights but isn’t one i will necessarily return to in full. faves: natural mystic, the heathen, three little birds least fave: exodus and jammin maybe? just didn’t quite click 3 stars or 54/100

There's an undeniable and almost effortless charm to songs like Jammin and Three Little Birds but it's all a little too easy-going and chill, especially after getting a few other albums here recently that feature similar instruments but feel more immediate and attention grabbing.

A truly perfect chill end of summer album. That being said, I'm not entirely sure what makes this stand out from other reggae albums since I'm not super familiar with the genre.

Acho que o reggae é subestimado, e é muito melhor que muitos gêneros... Ouviria de novo, sla, na praia kkkkkk

Standout Songs: Natural Mystic Waiting In Vain Three Little Birds Not the biggest fan of reggae, but I gotta admit this album had me nodding my head to the rhythm a couple times

Some good tunes, Jammin, Exodus, One Love, Three little birds - nothing to complain about really, I wouldn't listen through the whole thing again though.

Not a raggae guy but this was very good throughout

Reggae isn't for me

Easy listening, fun and enjoyable.

I get why 𝘌𝘹𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘴 is considered a landmark album — Marley’s presence is magnetic, the groove is steady, and the message is clear. As the face of reggae, he delivers songs with conviction and spiritual weight. But as someone who struggles to fully connect with reggae, much of the album blends together for me. The rhythm feels unchanging, the energy restrained. It’s undeniably well-crafted, and the second half in particular is full of iconic tracks — yet emotionally, it never fully lands. Respect for the voice and the vision. Just not my sound.

Listened on August 6th. Kinda repetitive, but it's fine. Great lyrics. 5/10

That's not my taste in music - But some pleasant songs

Classic reggae

Songs were a bit same-y but overall quite good

Listen I like the album but I just couldn’t get behind the start whatsoever! The last 3 songs were amazing but I seriously didn’t like it all that much… that being said I know it’s good music! If it was on like the radio I wouldn’t complain but I don’t think I would go and listen to the album on my own except for the last 3 songs!

I should listen to more reggae. After performing a couple bob marley songs, I can confirm it’s hard to be this groovy.

I will never forget that the title of the song is three little birds and NOT don’t worry be happy

Not my favorite album on the planet. I can absolutely respect this album for its culture and musical impact that it had at the time, but it's not my favorite style of music. I feel as though I would likely be warmer towards it had I been around during its release

Many others did it better, but hey I’ll check it !

I like how the album is split into two halves with two different vibes. The first half is more pessimistic and calling for a change, culminating in the “Exodus” of the people to a better place, part two. This half of the album is significantly more optimistic and upbeat, and is very fun to listen to.

Definitely gaining a better appreciation of Bob Marley...

C’est Bob, c’est bon mais ça ne touche pas plus qui faut

Nah I mean ok I guess

Don’t think I’ve heard an album with a side 2 so much stronger than the first nearly as noticeably as in this album. If I wasn’t committed to listening to these albums in full I’d have probably turned it off long before any of the good stuff hit. Where the first half of the album lacks in the way of lead instruments/vocal melodies, and feels directionless and samey, the second half delivers exactly where the first was lacking. The songs are hookier and the instruments are playing some really nice lines at time. A shame, because cutting a few of the weaker songs from the first half and reshuffling the track listing would probably make this one of my favourites so far. Natural Mystic (6/10) So Much Things to Say (5/10) Guiltiness (7/10) The Heathen (5/10) Exodus (6/10) Jamming (8/10) Waiting in Vain (8/10) Turn Your Lights Down Low (6/10) Three Little Birds (10/10) One Love/People Get Ready (9/10) 7/10

Behagelig hele vejen og et par bangers.

The hits are great, the rest really aren't

I'm not a reggae fan. It's a bit repetitive. I used to work venue production and had to do a reggae fest. 10hrs of reggae is too much. But, as far as this genre goes, this is a nice album. I used to listen to this record in college so, right from track one, I'm reminded of smoking sessions, good people, and good vibes.

i just don't get reggae.

good sound, good album, good reggae

Bom disco, eu gostei...

Great record. Nice vibe.

I think I am not a fan of reggae, but I can appreciate that this is probably as good as reggae gets

Reggae for me requires TASTE! It's Bob Marley for crying out loud!

Great listen. Felt some of the songs dragged on a little bit, but overall a relaxing one!

A smooth and laid back record

not my style but ok

Upon first listen, I found the album pleasant, but musically repetitive. The constant guitar strum brought to mind later Interpol albums where each song melds into the next. I appreciated it more upon a second go - the guitar riffs are great and add energy to the tracks, there is a also a very specific sound that reminded me of the Talking Heads '77 (same year!) with occasional glances back at the 60's Motown backup singing style.

p375. 1977. 3 stars. Reggae. so wrong audience. On the plus side, some classic tunes. Just doesn't do it for me. "I don't like reggae/oh no"

If you count Reggatta De Blanc, 3 of our last 8 albums have been reggae. I'd say this one's alright (I preferred Catch a Fire), but there are a couple of classics on side two ("Jamming" and "One Love/People Get Ready"). You can probably credit my affinity for "Jamming" to the Simpsons episode where Hank Azaria ad-libs Chief Wiggum singing it over the closing credits. Maybe it's kind of a shallow song - I still like it.

Got the big hits but not better than Survival

This is better than the other Bob Marley one, but I could have done without it. Maybe I need to sit down with the lyrics, but repetitive nature of each track reminds me why I don't listen to dance music.

Fine reggea, not much to add

It was okay. Not bad, but not really something I would listen to

Very gentle very chill cannot complain much

Fine for what it is, but it all largely sounds the same to me. 2.7

Some really good songs on there, but i'm not made for a whole Reggae album

Would give it 3.5 but it won’t let me. While Reggae has never been the most important or influential genre to me I’ve always had a soft spot for Bob Marley. The first half of this album is a fine/fun listen but the second is banger after banger. Great album!

Good, but very samey

It’s nice to finally listen to an entire Marley album that isn’t a greatest hits one. That being said, I like this album but i see why I wasn’t going out of my way to listen to them. The music is good but not entirely my thing.

Classico but not great

Insipid collection of some of the worst reggae ever by the token Caribbean artist from most peoples’ collections. The likes of Dr Alimantado, Culture and The Congos piss on Marley from a great height. Gets a generic three for cultural impact and having two or three hits.

All the songs are classic, for a certain vibe I’d enjoy the album more. Just a lot of Bob Marley to listen to a whole album

I feel I'm on the beach listening to this.

Joojoo.

easy listening but lyrics worth paying attention to

a lot of great tracks on here

7,5/10 Highlights: Natural Mystic Jamming Three Little Birds

I know what a heathen is, but I'm not sure what it means for him to be back deh pon di wall. It's good natured, entertaining music. It's not something I'd seek out but I found myself getting lost in its atmosphere and groove. Warm 3*

Good vibes great listen

3.4 I thought I would enjoy this album on the whole more than I did, I consider myself a Bob Marley fan, but maybe can't as don't think i've listened to this album all the way through. Score might be harsh given it's got multiple all time great songs. But more of them didn't engage me than the ones that did

Not really a fan of reggae, but it's a relaxed, slow album.

3 Little Birds is worth 3 little stars on its own.

I liked this more than I expected to. It definitely defines a mood. If there were half stars, I'd rate 3.5.

I guess I'm a basic bitch, but I prefer Legend, the greatest hits album.

There's a reason the singles are good, that's because they're a little bit different. Sometimes I feel like reggae gets too samey.

Clearly a great album, just not my favourite genre

I liked this slightly more than the last Bob Marley album. "Jamming" is classic.

on the phone

Reggae Classics.

its reggae

Än Klassiker. Unglaublich, was de Bob Marley für än Legändestatus erreicht hät - und nüd, weller so früeh gstorbe isch. Mir händ siini Musig, aber au UB40 u.a. i de 80er- Jahr ufe und abeglosed.

Hard for me to separate this from what I perceive the average Bob Marley enjoyer looks like. It's a me problem but I don't enjoy this as much as I want to.

- Entspannt.

#554. I didn't expect much seeing as how every reggae song/album is basically the same, and it was more or less exactly what thought it would be. This one does have three big hits that I've heard before, so I'll give an extra star for not absolutely boring me to death like most reggae albums do. 3/5: fine

A big album full of Bob Marley hits. I’m not super engaged with Bobby Boy in general, but this was a pretty enjoyable album to play during my evening walk.

Its pretty decent I like it I've never listened reggae like this I know multiple tracks that are very good and the "exodus" is spelled with Amharic alphabets "ሒትዑፍህያ" but rearranged cool Top 3 track's So much things to say One love Three little bird's

Good songs but gets boring

Reggae slowly grew on me, though the majority of the songs blend together with how similar they sound.

It was okay.

okay but not for me

Its easy to listen to, but more of background music, not something I would listen to deeply or intently.

More reggae. How much reggae is on this list??? Just enough to not be a complete annoyance

not a style of music i usually listen to, but of course there’s some classics in here. probably won’t become a new fav, but not bad. i liked it.

Boom chaka boom chaka ad naseum for an hour. Was good for a couple songs. Then gets old.

Easy listening. Loved the band itself they sound great, but reggae is a bit monotonous for me. I recognize I should more deeply listen to the lyrics too, so this is an easy revisit.

Bob Marley is an actual legend, but reggae bores me.

it's just not my thing (i wrote thang first then got embarrassed)

It's a good album sure but there's nothing of the magic of those early recordings.

I've never got into reggae but if I was going to, this album would probably have been the catalyst. Three Little Birds and Jamming are superb but I find the rest of the time, the tracks merge into one reggae reggae beat and as much admiration as I have for Bob, it's just not my turf.

I really want to like this more. I want to like reggae more in general. I do love quite a few tracks on this, I also love other reggae artists like Barrington Levi, but this album had me split between just vibing and paying attention to the philosophy and theology expounding. I felt too spread out. 3/5

perfectly fine and pleasant!

Obviously Bob is monumental in so many ways. What I disagree with - is having 5 or 6 of his albums in a top anything list. Reality is reggae by in large sounds samey same and afterwards if you played a random non-hit single .....I doubt anyone would know the name of it.

Thay do be the bob Marley and that do be the wailers wow very standard album from them wow

It's just a standard good reggae album, but it's not the stuff for me. The last few songs are great, but the rest is just alright.

Some of the most overrated music ever made. It’s not that it’s bad. It’s just very, very average. If you want reggae, Lee “scratch” Perry is way better

A fun album that would sound great at the beach, a Tiki bar or even better a Tiki bar at the beach! Not something I would play all the time but at the right time I can see this being a great soundtrack to summer activities. Makes me wish I was at Black's Beach skinny dipping in July!

Für ein Reggae Album ziemlich gut. Schön positiv.

it was nice, 7/10

chill and fun!

First marley album I listened to, it's nice to get some variety. Also this album has some of his greatest hits

Maybe I'm in a different spirit today than when I had "Natty Dread" because this one here I don't hate. A righteous classic, for all I care, although the first half was more tolerable, because I know the rest and: it STILL bores THE fuck OUT of ME. See what I did there, that rhythm? Oh well, one more Wailers album to go, then I'm done with this.

Enjoyed more than I expected, would have preferred to be outside in the sun rather than stuck in an office listening! The Heathen stood out for me

Feel good album. Smiled with the sunshine whilst listening on my morning commute, but it didn't do enough to get me skipping through the afternoon. "Waiting In Vain" is my personal favourite.

Bit nice for me. I mean there’s nothing wrong with it; the performances are great and it sounds amazing (of course it does, it’s 70’s reggae) it’s just that it’s also very sterile and children's partyish. Once you’ve heard anything Lee "Scratch" Perry was doing around this time, or even something like ‘Uptown Top Ranking’, it’s hard for this to truly hit the spot. It’s also a shame, as there’s a really good album lurking amongst this. Songs like ‘Natural Mystic’, ‘The Heathen’ and the hypnotically amazing title track are great, and it’s a shame that we didn’t get a whole album of this, as it would have led to something far better and more interesting. Sadly; said interesting album neither would nor could contain the heinous scourge of ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘One Love.’ It’s all a bit too Prince Charles dancing with Jamaican children for me.

It's good, but I get tired after 2 Bob Marley songs in a row. 3.5

3.5 — enjoyable but I wear out easy on reggae

Exodus has much more recognizable songs and really put Bob on the map. Side B is slowed down a bit but better than side A. Def improvement from the earlier album we got "Natty Dread." I have a Marley remix album which features some hip-hop renditions of "Guiltiness" and "Turn Your Lights Down Low" which are great...even preferable to the originals. This album is a deserved lister and gets a 3.43.

He’s very talented and I enjoyed the album enough but I probably won’t be adding this to the regular rotation.

This is nice to jam to. Reminds me of my friend who loved Bob Marley and named her series of large dogs after him. Her memorial bench has a plaque that says "every little thing's gonna be all right"

1. myztic - 2 2. zay - 1.5 3. guiltinezz - 1 4. heathen - 1.5 5. ezoduz - 1.5 6. jamming - 3.5 7. vain - 2 8. louu - 1.5 9. birdz - 2.5 10. people -3 11. jamming 2 - 2 12. reggae - 1.5

Decent effort. Not his best but quite alright.

Es klingt halt alles gleich. Mag man eins, mag man alle

Not bad, typical Marley.

Good album, great even. Reggae just ain't my thing 7/10

Mi first time a lisn tu Bob Marley outside a di greatest hits an mi did pleasantly surprised fi find out seh him actually good! Afta mi seh dat, mi a nuh no massive fan a reggae as di non-hits dem pan yah can really sound samey an drag on. But it did enjoyable enough but mi really nuh see nobody a put dis whole album on fi a spin sober. Di laas two song dem a evergreens though, absolute classics. Highlights: So Much Things To Say, Exodus, Three Little Birds, One Love/People Get Ready

Not bad. I enjoyed the upbeat vibe and several of the songs.

Geneeristä reggaeta

Good vibes as always from Bob Marley. I had never listened to the full album before but I had heard several of the songs. Listening to this makes me just wanna sit on the beach, sip on something good and relax. This is almost a 4 star rating for me, but not quite. I would give it a 3.5/5 if possible.

It's good, a bit repetitive as my ears are not sensitive to reggae also haven't been paying attention to the lyrics which I think are important here. Might give it another chance.

I don't particularly like reggae, so listening to this album was more about focusing on being objective. The production is clean and very accessible. The instrumentation (especially solos) is worth noting. The lyrics are probably the big draw here. I can't see myself putting on this album to listen to for fun, but this is clearly a very well made album. All that said, I really didn't need to hear "Three Little Birds" again. That song is one of the top overplayed songs in the history of mankind. A true feat.

I really love the feeling of the music. So calm. Bob Marley's got a great voice too. Extra points for "Three Little Birds", probably the only song that has calmed me down in a moment of real anxiety. I don't agree with Marley on a lot, religion, social views, and how to create change. I think he's way off-base with the music and the meaning, so significant points deducted. Like..."Guiltiness"...placing a lot of blame whereas he and his family are the richest in Jamaica and their religion oppresses many. Play without lyrics my man.

It's amazing how some artists just resonate with people and have staying power. Bob Marley has an insane number of monthly listeners on Spotify... 23+ million. I was familiar with a lot of songs on this album, like I think most people would be. But the ones of the ones I wasn't, nothing really grabbed me. It was mostly a "meh" experience. Although to be fair, I was familiar with almost every track. Kind of amazing for an album I have never specifically listened to that almost all of the tracks were universally known tracks. Also... not sure what was up with the fidelity, but some of the tracks felt like karaoke versions. Like "Three Little Birds." The production didn't sound very sophisticated.

Same as the last Bob Marley album!

It's a good album, I enjoy Bob Marley but it's not my favorite.

Decent, boppy songs

This Marley album isn't bad. I like the instrumentation and arrangements on this one a bit better than some of the other albums of his we've had on the list. 3.4/5

I don't care for reggae, but if I'm gonna listen to reggae, I want it to be Bob Marley. This one is I think better than the other. This is something that is ok. 3/5

Something about Bobs voice that sounds effortless, mixed that with the laid back swing of reggae and you get a very laid back album. Not a fan of the genre, but this was a decent listen overall

Surprisingly sad

270/1001

A pleasant enuff album wid sum undeniably big enjoyable hits, oweva di muzik does become a likkle bit repetitive an feels somewhat hollow afta a while. Dat coupled wid di fact dis genre of muzik ave neva bin mi cup of tea means a star rating of tree is probably fair. Mi tink mi too cynical fi dis chronically happy an melodic jamming, fi instance, tek "Three likkle Birds" an di example an di repetition of everything unequivocally being alright. Mi cyaa help but respond tuh it inna mi haad inna di same relentlessly grounded realism as Mark from Peep Show, wen confronted wid Jeremy (caught inna anotha inane daze of infatuation) repeating di quote: "We nuh ave nuttin tuh fear, except fear itself" Well Bob.. "What about losing all your money? Or shitting yourself in public? Or the tabloid press mistakenly outing you as a paedo? Or Alzheimer's? Or all of those things, plus you're drowning?" And for anyone sitting there thinking, "Well this review is nice and racist, isn't it", or proclaims this review to be "literary blackface", I'll have you know that it is written in the spirit evoked by the music I have listened to... and also with the help of www.jamaicantranslator.com, so stick dat inna yuh pipe an smoke it, bumbaclart.

I went into this album semi-excited. Seeing the tracklist I was familiar with about half of it, and liked all of that which I was familiar with. Issue was that upon listening, they were the only ones I particularly liked… there was nothing wrong with the others, but they did just blend into a kind of nothingness… Thankfully, the ones I did like really carried the album. Turn Your Lights Down Low is the stand out for me. Always loved that song. But leaves the album kind of middle of the road as a whole

Nothing remotely as powerful as Natural Mystic but I liked it on the whole.

Exactly what I expected, cool album with an insane vibe in its simplicity. Bob Marley absolutely shines in there with incredible and entertaining performances. To try with weed. 3. 5

yep, it's reggae

Qué decir? Estoy seguro que no es el mejor álbum de Bob Marley. Un poco aburrido pero siempre sólido. Nota: 3.1

Solid Marley with 3 big hits (Jamming, Three Little Birds, One Love). Always easy listening. That said it's nothing ground breaking. 3.3/5

Exodus was a pretty decent album. This is only the second reggae album that i have listened yet i don't have a whole lot to say about it. The songs here are all pretty pleasant listens with no outright awful sounding stuff but that's all it kinda is. There is nothing about any of these songs that stands out as really good or really bad, It's just mainly mid tier stuff. I will admit that the transition From So Much Things To Say to Guiltiness was pretty sudden and abrupt but it doesn't really change my opinion of this album all that much. This is a perfectly fine album and that's all i can say. Best Song: The Heathen Worst Song: So Much Things To Say

not really my thing.

Classic though not my favorite Marley album.

This is a special type of music, a mix of rock and latin, but I could be wrong. However songs are very pleasant to listen during an activity or just enjoy your Friday morning.

Sehr viel besser als natty dread aber das Genre ists wirklich nicht

This will be blasphemous to a lot of people but I’ve never been into Bob Marley’s music or mainstream reggae in general. There have been some dub-influenced artists and sounds that I’ve enjoyed quite a lot but Marley’s style strikes me as (sigh, again, sorry) basic. I feel nothing. The lyrics are much more interesting to me than the music. Plenty of others, I’m sure, consider this a must-listen, and I am tempted to call it one for the cred. Gotta be true to myself though. It’s merely fine.

Love the songs, Exodus and Jammin. Overall a great album. Three Little Birds is such a classic. makes you feel so nice and warm. Also, I really jam with the Jammin 12" version and Punky Reggae Party 12" version.

It's okay. Just okay The whole thing's fine to listen to, but honestly, I’d never choose to play this myself—and I’m sure I’ll never come back to this album

Bob! I do love reggae. Something about the beat mimicking a heartbeat. I think 3 Little Birds is the most famous track but for me, One Love/People Get Ready is pure gold. 3/5

ok. some lesser known songs not that great

Bob Marley is the vibes but he’s not the consistent

Chill af

Chill, not my thing but good background

Suprised that i kind of enjoyed it

It's Bob Marley. Good stuff.

Aangenaam genoeg voor een voldoende maar spreekt me niet echt aan.

ja lache maar ga het verder nooit opzetten

chill music, nice intro to reggae top tracks: turn your lights down low

more reggae excellence from the legend himself. songs of spirituality and relationships. just a fun, quality listen.

Helt ok bakgrundsmusik

Masterclass in songwriting, recorded almost completely without soul.

Not a fan of reggae, still, not too bad

Some classic songs

Es klingt halt alles gleich. Mag man eins, mag man alle

Great album with some of my favorite Marley songs.

Not super into this but it was still okay 3/5

Pretty good album. Not something I would normally listen to, but I appreciate what it did for reggae music. Bob Marley is an icon. Favorite songs: Exodus, Waiting in Vain, Jamming, So Much Things To Say, Three Little Birds (of course)

Who doesn’t like Bob Marley. Lots of well known songs on this album like Jamming, Three Little Birds, One Love, Exodus (which should have been about three minutes shorter), and Waiting in Vain. I do prefer the Annie Lennox version though 😬 I’m happy people can’t comment directly to that 😁 Overall, it was a fun listen.

Aside from providing the inspiration for a staple of the dad joke world it’s not a bad album but found myself picking up on the well known songs and not so much on the rest of the album tracks.

I like this less than a lot of others, i know. I'm much nore apt to drop a diff BM album. But obv solid stuff. 3.5

Pretty nice to listen to. Standout tracks: Turn Your Lights Down Low, Three Little Birds, One Love / People Get Ready

Some really nice tunes. 7/10

Ein abgerundetes, stimmiges Album; zeitlos und universell hörbar.

Have you guys heard that one reggae song that goes like, unka chaka unka chaka? I think it's called....ALL REGGAE SONGS.

Not for me.

It’s a pretty good album. Definitely amazing background music. Favorite song is jamming

Not my particular vibe but I can understand how it was so popular and well loved. Bob Marley was an amazing musician.

I think I need to listen to more reggae because it all sounded the same

I liked it. The hits are the best songs in my opinion, but most of the others are good too. Not every song was amazing though, there’s a few I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to again.

Generally speaking, this is not my kind of music. It’s not bad, not by a long shot, but not something you d ever choose to revisit. That said, one love and three little birds give me nostalgia for Hurricane Harbor, and Exodus was pretty cool with the horns. Not a bad time overall. 3/5

A very sad let down , particularly after catch a fire.

I liked this album. It was a good mix of hits and b-sides.

It was pretty good, always think of a late friend who loved this man when I listen to his songs

If you're into raggae, it's all here for you!

I always want to hate Bob Marley - then when you listen to his full albums, not just the singles it’s hard not to groove along to him. Anyways classic 3/5 record. Nothing to hate, nothing that blows my mind.

vähemmän offensiivista reggaeta, vaikka ei vieläkään mikään mulle aukeava genre. 3/5

This is the first time I’ve actually sat down and consciously listened to a Bob Marley album from start to finish. Marley always reminds me of being 18 at house parties, where other privileged suburban kids would go on about how “the man” is holding them back and how hemp could save the world, usually while they’re taking bong hits. So, yeah, Marley’s music has always brought some cringe-worthy associations for me. As for this album, it sounded just like I imagined—a typical Bob Marley record.

Reggae annoys me. This is tolerable

3.5 but giving a 3 as some people seriously overrated this

Bob Marley is an important artist, I just don’t know if I would return to this album much. For reggae please drop the needle on “The Harder They Come” (soundtrack) and Pato Barton’s “Never Give In.” Thank you, and sorry.

This is #day3 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... I have never listened to an album by Bob Marley in its entirety in my life. Only a couple of songs... Now, reggae? Not my cup of tea at all, but I get the way reggae and dub influenced the rhythm and depth of post-punk (some early trip-hop comes to mind as well... think "Blue Lines"), which is the genre I find myself most comfortable with. The Police is a perfect example of marrying both (yes, I love Sting). Anyway, Exodus flows fine from the first track (my favorite here) until the last one. I like the vibe and all those Rastaman vibrations, but is this the record I'd want to return to anytime soon? Rather unlikely. Did I enjoy discovering it as part of this challenge? More yes than no. Let it be a 3 this time around. Looking forward to #day4.

A good album but passed me by a little bit. Might need to sit and focus on it a bit.

Not my favourite Wailers album, but you can't argue with how strong it is. But it's the highly commercial Bob Marley show by now, and I find the whole Exodus schtick a bit odd. Like Bob knows what's best for the black people of the western world, they need to "go back where they came from" I fee like I've heard that before somewhere. Very polished and of course contains some classic singles, pop-tastic reggae goodness.

Not bad - haven't really listened to Marley before. Chill, as expected, but don't know if I could play more than just the album at a time without being over the reggae.

Saving it for later!

Nothing wrong with it just not really for me. I do like how all the songs seem to bleed into each other, that’s always cool to me.

Good listen but not my usual listen.

Reggae isn't my scene at all, but this was quite enjoyable.

3.5, very good, overplayed in my head

Even though this is rated higher than Natty Dread, I couldn’t get into it as much. Still a great, worthwhile listen nonetheless 6.5/10 Favorite song: Three Little Birds

Not sure I like jamming Bob but thanks for the offer Less dull than his other albums but still find it rather basic.

não sou chegada ao reggae mas me surpreendi com a personalidade que esse disco tem baseado no meu conhecimento quase nulo do gênero

Good reggae. Good job bob. 72/100

I was pleasantly surprised by the deeper cuts on this one. Heathen and Waiting in vain were great tracks. My hatred towards Three little birds and One love bumps this down significantly though, can’t stand these don’t worry be happy-esque reggae songs.

Once it breaks out of the shackles of the protest album and loosens up, it plays like a greatest hits. Newfound respect for Wait in Vain. Yes there is a needless guitar solo which is a requirement for 70s albums, but musically more complex than I'd previously given it credit for. Not a coherent album, which ends on a high after Exodus track.

Not my favorite album due to the religiosity. 3.4

I preferred his earlier work with the proper Wailers. This is good, however a lot of the weird mystery stuff has been dropped for more religious themes. Jamming, One Love, and Three Little Birds are good of course, but the rest largely blended into one. I feel harsh giving it 3 stars but I have absolutely no interest in re-listening to the repetitive stuff.

Really enjoyed the first couple of songs, but the album felt like it was the first couple of songs over and over again.

Hey it's the song from Shark Tale... Fav songs: - Natural Mystic - Three Little Birds - One Love/People Get Ready

1977. Reggae. 7/10

"Waiting in Vain" reminded me of "Ghost Town" by The Specials and I'd rather listen to that. I think for this album to really shine for me, it'll take a more concerted listening to the lyrics and political writings of it all, as opposed to just getting into reggae. I'll probably never pick it out again but if someone spun it, you wouldn't hear any complaints from me.

Just pretty isn’t it? Vibes like a summer day.

I enjoyed this. Very nice chill vibes for a summer night. Have to knock it down a star though because I found it a bit repetitive. I'd hit some highlight from it again though.

It's just really... really infectiously happy. Pure and simple. Not sure I've ever heard natural mystic before? great. Synths/organ and on the heathen are rad. And the guitar! Exodus really drives, so strong. love the bassline. What can you say about Jammin, really? There's a reason this version alone has over 500million streams in total. Kind of wish I'd heard this album a long time ago, instead of the best tracks peppered all over best ofs and rinse/repeated ad infitum. I think this is a 3.5 - I'm not a massive marley fan, but you just can't deny how catchy, easy going and optimistic it is. I guess it's brought down a little by the religious context for me.

Some really great tunes and variety, not your standard reggae album.

Is it clearly a revolutionary reggae record? Yes. Is it as good as Funky Kingston? No.

Half hour was good with such a distinct style. Imagine live was better. Hits are great.

It’s classic beach music. I liked a few of them quite a bit, but the same beat for the whole album gets a little repetitive.

Classic Marley sound. Didn’t get a chance to go in depth with the lyrics. Not bad, but not my fav genre. Can’t knock it tho.

"I hope you like jammin, cause I want to jam with you." I think he's not talking about playing music! The first songs were OK, but not that interesting. But then I started getting interested. It really picked up and I enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful arrangements and upbeat, really nice! Solid 3 stars

Its ok

relaxed

I'm still staring at the cover. At first I thought the font was cheap, but it has gradually melted into a totem, or some Lovecraftian script. Rastafari is not in hock to Cthulhu, but the religious text of this album made me uneasy: what did they want us to take away from these words about fated suffering, Jah, "they" who "crucified Jesus Christ", religious war, heathen up against walls, exodus, and trumpets? Most reggae doesn't do much for me: it can be a lazy minimalism that often leaves no song to hang from, space unfilled, and it takes the otherworldly blasts of dub to pull me in; much of the first side is like this, though the rhythm section entices, particularly that hopping bass. Exodus is a juggernaut, Old Testament ritual chant set up against disintegrating guitar notes and this insistent, bullying bass riff, and a whole lot of dub roaming around. I'm surprised by how much I like it, having heard it in the background maybe a hundred times without caring. It's ominous and shifting, and that suits the subject matter. Jamming, Three Little Birds, and One Love are impossible-to-forget nonsense; Waiting In Vain is the most soulful track on the record. Marley had a distinctive voice; listening to him now, I hear the imitators, who without fail fail. It's a good voice, even if the words are a murk of mystic obfuscation. I enjoyed this more than I expected to.

It's got all lot of the hits on there, and not much of the more interesting stuff. This is the coffee table end of Marley, the white people friendly end. That said, a great pop single is a great pop single.

А чё! А мне нравится. Это совсем не моя тема, но три ставлю.

Not really my thing but I can appreciate this album's significance. 3/5

It was a nice relaxing listen.

este disco huele a marihuana

Not bad

Fine for a certain mood

Pretty decent and fairly enjoyable listen from Rasta man and band. But nothing much more to say about it. Natural Mystic is a great song and opener though.

I'm sure it's nice, but did not listen. No more Marley mon.

Best Song: Three Little Birds. Although borderline cheesy to listen to now, it has an uplifting, undeniably kind quality. Worst Song: Jammin' - 12" Version. Why not listen to the real version? Overall: In many ways, Bob Marley is a victim of his own success. His music is so prevalent, and often to tightly coupled to a particular "vibe", that it's hard to appreciate it without all the baggage that comes with it. It's good music though.

I can tell it’s good but it’s not for me.

Eh. Idc. 3 stars for Ez Birds.

Normally dislike reggae but I loved BM Greatest Hits as a teen and many of these songs are on here. Maybe I'm just nostalgic but I enjoyed the songs I knew. 3.5

If you like bob Marley and reggae, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this, too. 3.2

I have never been a reggae fan, although that is mainly based on shitty white-boy cod-reggae like UB40 or The Fucking Police. I knew the Bob Marley standards and always found them to be OK if nothing more, so was looking forward to actually listening to one of the great reggae albums. Meh.

It’s not hard to see and hear why Bob Marley is so heralded, not just in rastafarianism and reggae but in music as a whole. I don’t like reggae. I find it repetitive and sluggish at most times. But this record is something different. This record is Bob Marley at his best. Perhaps it was because I listened to it on an original LP, complete with intense crackling, but I don’t think that can skew my opinion too much, and that opinion is that this is an excellent album. It’s still not particularly within my tastes, but I can absolutely appreciate it culturally and musically.

I've heard songs of Bob Marley & the Wailers here and there all of my life, but I've never truly sat down and listened to entire album of their work until today. I was already a big fan of "Waiting in Vain", having heard it decades before when Annie Lennox covered the song and I was introduced to it. I enjoyed hearing the original as well as "There Little Birds" which I had heard countless times before. As an atheist, who is not from Jamaica, and does not like weed, there was not much on this album I can relate to. I respect the performance and production quality, and their place in popular music history, but I am not likely to put this album on again, so I cannot give this a higher rating than a 3.

C'était chill. Pas mon délire mais intéressant.

Waiting in Vain is the best song on this album. Love that track. This album got me feeling relaxed.

Would be 5 stars if there was an entire recording of Police Chief Wiggum singing Jamming.

Legend

I usually find Reggae boring and this isn’t really an exception, I bumped it up to a 3 thanks to So Much Things to Say and The Heathen, some standout songs

A good reggae album, but there’s such a thing as too much reggae. This was too much reggae for me. 6/10 Top 3: 1. Three Little Birds 2. Natural Mystic 3. Jamming

After seeing a bunch of the One Love trailers these past few months at the movies, I feel like I've heard this album before! It actually made me enjoy it more being familiar with a few of these like Exodus and Three Little Birds. Damian Marley actually uses samples from Exodus for his song Move! and I wouldn't be surprised if there were other songs on his albums, or his brothers Stephen and Ziggy. Marley was a king, and this was a fantastic album to show that. Can we all just chill out and listen to this music? I think that's his overall message (kidding).

Reggea, easy listening Eher unbekannte Songs, gut zu hören aber keine Highlights 3/5

An interesting album. You hear a lot of his songs across different forms of media but i dont get why he became SO huge. His music is enjoyable but there are better reggae artists out there. Maybe he influenced them?

The thing I like about Reggae is that it is always feel good. Even when the topic is about oppression, or something in a negative light. The music has this chill vibe. This album was just that. Not really my type of music. But I didn't mind it. It sort of played a background track to what I was doing, and it fit well. Three Little Birds is still an incredible song. I play this song every now and then. Bob Marley had truthful messages in his music and I think his importance in music will forever be recognized.

The engineering and mixing are gorgeous. The musicianship is top-rate. Marley had such a talent for melody. Almost every song has at least one ear-worm and several have a couple. Truly incredible melody-maker. But his lyrics! They sound tossed off the top of his incredibly pot-addled head. They are consistently SO poorly thought out; it sounds like he has feelings on religious/political/intimate subjects and was so celebrated at this point that he began believing he could just stand in front of a hot mic and riff and the truth would emerge. It's a mess, for the most part. The love songs on side two are somehow less cringe inducing - maybe because we expect people to sound adolescent when singing about love. All that said, Three Little Birds and One Love are two of the greatest tracks of all time.

My impressions of Marley were shaped by seeing a bunch of white college kids listening to reggae all the time. For me then, I just couldn't get into the long, repetitive nature of the music. And, I was definitely reacting against this idea of Bob Marley amongst the stoned college crowd. I gave Exodus a listen a couple of times today, turned it up as often and as loud as possible. I can appreciate it more than I could then. If someone had put Natural Mystic or Punky Reggae Party on for me first I might've had a different impression of Marley overall.

It's the Godfather of reggae & this contains some of his iconic tracks to give you that euphoric rush whilst struggling in a dull utopian life.I applaud the talent but right here right now not for me.

Good, but I’m more of a greatest hits guy.

Listenable

Gentle grooves

Not a big fan of the Island music. This album was an easy listen and I enjoyed it.

Good. I think I've heard these songs so many times though it was hard to be "wowed" by this album, even though had I been listening for the first time I might have thought it was great.

This is their third entry on this list. And as usual, it's groovy, well-produced, and a bit monotonous.

Hard to assess something with so many ubiquitous, but similar, songs.

All sounded the same

Exodus, three little birds and jammin are classics, but I didn’t find much else I liked in this album

I mean, it’s good. The message is good, the music is good - but it’s no better than any other reggae. The same message and same rhythm all sounds like the same song after a while.

Unvergessen, machte den Reggae populär, bis dahin Weltmusik und sentimentale Urlaubserinnerungen.

was ok

Nice, maybe I just wast in the right mood when listening

Again a bit in dubio about a reggea album. There are certainly days where this feels like a 4, but on other days it gets way too repetitive musically.

We're jamming

Had heard much of this album before and it was nice to hear again.

Really enjoyed, mostly have listened to other albums so was nice to have a new one. More a 3.5

Definitely a good album. High quality playing , song writing and good production. Awesome bass. Interesting (and good) bluesy guitar licks mixed in with reggae and similar with jazz sounds. I like reggae but not my taste to listen to lots of it. Bob Marley is absolutely there at the top of the genre.

Not bad. There were actually some songs I enjoyed, despite never having heard them before. I like this style of music.

Classic

Not my type of music. But I guess it could be good since he’s so famous
