Underworld
2/5
There are some good songs on the album. Although I wished they had put in more of the slower songs, those were the best to me. Other than that this is DnB music as pure as it gets. Noce beats and a tempo that makes you want to dance. Not something I would listen to often but also not something I will turn off if it comes on.
After listening to the album I looked up their other songs and they made Born Slippy, that explains why some songs (like Pearl's Girl) sounded similar to something.

Beatles
2/5
Yesterday I got a Rolling Stones album and wrote about not having nostalgia for the band and apart from a few songs I don't really listen to the band. I can still agree with their contribution to music and bands that came after.
The Beatles are the same to me, their music contribution might be even greater but I don't really enjoy them enough to come back an listen again.
Listening through the album today didn't change that.

The Doors
3/5
A very old classic band once again but to me this has aged better than a lot of the Beatles songs. While the mixing and recording still shows its age this album still have a bunch of good songs that I enjoy even though I haven't listened to the bad much before. They use the synth to make the music more interesting and songs like Alabama Song adds a nice twist to the other songs on the album in style and genre.

Muddy Waters
2/5
Old soulful blues(?). Whan I think about when people talk about the genre from the 50s or 60s.
Nice rhythms but nothing I would listen to daily.

Mylo
2/5
I thought this was completely new to me since I didn't recognize Mylo at all. Then I got to "Drop The Pressure" and was taken back to my teens.
This album is great. It has a few songs that sound very generic to me but this is definitely something I would have playing in the background while playing games, cooking, or just going about life.

Parliament
3/5
Känns som definitionen av "funk". Väldigt goa rytmer och skön musik. Dock för mycket prat för min del. Hade nog hellre haft jazzmusiken/funkmusiken utan pratat (eller med sång).
Dead Kennedys
3/5
Classic British punk. A lot of the messages still ring true today.
Thtat being said, the punk sound/style often isn't the most pleasant thing to listen to (as intended I guess).
Black Sabbath
4/5
While I know who Black Sabbath and Ozzy are I havent relly listened to a whole album of theirs before. Dreamer is the stand out song for me but the whole album was a good listen. FX as an instrumental song in the middle seemed a bit out of place but from what I knew about the band I guess I shouldn't be very surprised. Laguna sunrise as a later instrumental song fit the album much better in my opinion.
A strong album but not something I would listen all the way through again.
The War On Drugs
4/5
Really well made Indierock album by an artist I hadn't heard about before. The songs are easy to listen to and the whole album sets a mood with the first song and gets you stuck in it for the whole album. Definitely some songs I will listen to again.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Really good album but it needs a few listens to appreciate fully I think. At least for someone like me that has english as a second language.
I like the vibes and the mix of instruments in the songs. Works great even just on in the background with the chill beats.
Keith Jarrett
3/5
I dont often listen to a pure piano album from start to finish very often even tho I have a few songs on different playlists. I'm not well versed in classical piano more than to say that this was a nice hour of just good music to have on in the background while reading.
Solomon Burke
5/5
Excellent soul album. The sound and feeling from the songs are pure soul.
Some times in life you just want to listen to some songs like these and do nothing for an hour or five. And right now I just wanna lay back in my sofa, close my eyes and listen to Solomon Burke all day.
Ray Price
3/5
A mostly slow-tempo country album in the old "classical" country style. A lot of songs remind me of elvis. Pretty ok album but not my style for the most part.
The Beach Boys
5/5
I remember my dad having beach boys on LD discs so this gave me some flashbacks. Good catchy songs all through the album and the fact that some of these songs still gets added to playlists the world over is a good testament to its quality.
Neil Young
4/5
I have heard the name Neil Young through the years but I have never really listened to him before.
The soft vibe of the album, the piano, and the harmonica all makes for a great album.
I am now a Neil Young fan!
Coldplay
3/5
Ive been a big fan of Coldplay for years so while these songs arent new to me it was great to have a listen through the album as a whole.
Baaba Maal
4/5
This album threw me of the deep end to say the least. African music isn't something I have listened to at all (except for some Cristpher Tin songs).
So this African singing with soothing background noice or pop rythms was like a whole new experience that I truly loved. Experiencing something new in ways of music doesn't happen very often so even tho I probably wont play this on repeat in the future its something I will carry with me.
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
I dont even know what to cassify this album as. The messages in the songs seems very punk and the time period in britain seems right for it but the sound doesnt really match that energy for me. The album as a whole is way to stranger for me. Perhaps I needed to hear it when it came out or maybe I needed to live it.
Beatles
3/5
Classic album from a classic band that a lot of people have at least heard about. I've listened to it before andit has some really good songs but a lot of them are in a style that I dont really like personally.
A lot of the songs feel "samey" and straight up old. The Beatles contribution to music history is great but as something to listen to in 2024 when you haven't grown up with it around you it falls flat.
Talking Heads
2/5
An intereresting album in many ways. I understand why I have only heard one of their songs before since they have a different sound through out the album. Not my kind of music and not something I will listen to again.
The Modern Lovers
1/5
Rock bands from the 70s and 80s is really hit or miss with me and this album is a miss. Usually I can find at least a few songs from every album that I like even if they wont be added to any playlists. That wasn't the case here. the songs are just to slow and repetitive.
4/5
David Bowie is great and so is this album. I have heard some songs from Bowie before (who hasn't?) but this was the first time i really listened to the songs and a whole album back to front like this and it was a great ride.
Leaning back and listening to this album cured an otherwise bad day.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Having never heard of this band before I was pleasantly surprised. Many good songs and a cohesive album. Not much to say other than I really enjoyed the listen.
Blue Cheer
2/5
Old school cool. A very heavy sound with nice rythms. They switch from some kind of proto-metal in one song to a heavy blues in the next.
This was an interesting listen but not something I will go back to anytime soon.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
I heard this band for the first time a few days ago from this site so its still fresh in my memories. I enjoyed this album from them as well. But just as the previous album I dont have much to say other than I really enjoyed the listen. Nothing I will add to a playlist or search for in the future and at the same time nothing I would skip if it starts playing on random.
The Prodigy
2/5
There are some songs on this album that almost feels like cassics ny now. Listning to them today I get reminded why the Prodigy was a band I never got in to.
Stephen Stills
3/5
I have never heard on Stephen Stills before this. Or so I thought before I remembered the group Crosby, Stills & Nash that I never listened to but have heard of. Knowing that I expected some kind of country and I would say that is what I got.
It was a pleasant time listening to the album and it seems like a solid country album with some good ballad but not the kind of music I would listen to very often.
Deep Purple
3/5
I have only hears one or two songs from Deep Purple before and I have to say this was ride. I like 70s and 80s rock but a lot of albums from this era were very experimental and this one is no exception. The guitar feels very familiar but the singing (if you can call it that) and the long keyboard parts is something I didn't expect from this band.
After all that said, the album was a nice listen and a fun ride from start to finish.
Eminem
3/5
Born in 1988 this album came out at just the right time with MTV and my almost-teens. Love the vibe of the album and most of the songs. While i like the album after this more it still have songs I love.
The Divine Comedy
4/5
Never heard of this singer before. The pop sounds and occational almost bossa nova like singing makes for an album that is easy to listen to.
Good album throughout.
Cornershop
3/5
Brimful of Asha is a song that still plays on the radio from time to time but I have never looked up Cornershop for any other song before.
The album is very much what I would expect from the group that made Brimful of Asha. Easy listening songs throughout the album with some surprisers thrown in. The songs in Hindi as well as the songs with a female singer were a fun addition to the album.
Arcade Fire
2/5
While I have heard of the band I have never listened to them and now i know why. The music isn't bad but at the same time its not something that appeals to me at all. Slow pop rythms that almost put me to sleep by the second song. Not bad but not for me.
Lorde
4/5
Very soothing music. A lot of good songs that makes me just want to lean back, close my eyes and listen all day long. Love it!
David Crosby
2/5
While the vibes and guitarr playing is great a lot of the songs are just to weird for my taste. Its fun getting introduced to music by a person I have heard about from other things (crosby, stills & Nash) but this isn't something I will listen to again.
Kraftwerk
3/5
Classic electronic music that I have listened to before and will listen to again.
Not something where I would listen to their albums front to back but I do have a few song on different playlists.
Radiohead
2/5
Experimental rock? I don't know what to classify this album as. Its very mellow songs and I enjoyed listening to the album as a whole. Its not some thing I will listen to regularly to thought.
U2
3/5
Classic U2 album from their earlier years filled with ani war messages throughout. All the songs have good lyrics but some are catchier than others. Not an album I will listen through again but some of the song are and will stay on playlists for the foreseeable future.
Lupe Fiasco
2/5
To me this seems like generic hip-hop. Nothing I haven't heard before and nothing I will search for in the future.
Animal Collective
1/5
Indie pop? Indie rock? Experimental? I don't know what to call this music. It sure is a unique sound they have made throughout the album.
While it was an experience its not something that appeals to me.
Cat Stevens
4/5
Some really classic songs on this album. I love his voice and the mellow guitar playing. Very relaxing and cozy songs. I already have a few songs from the album on playlists and always love when they come up.
Prince
1/5
Except for 2-3 of his most famous songs I've never really listened to Prince before. I don't think this is his most famous and popular album and I'm not sure if there is a correlation but a lot of the songs seems kind of meh.
Its not bad in any means, its just not that good or anything that sticks out. Nothing that makes we want to come back and listen again.
Mike Ladd
1/5
While some of the beats were great this is not an album I enjoyed at all. Maybe I'm not in to hip-hop enough but I need something more when listening to the genre.
Willie Nelson
4/5
Willie Nelson to me is an older guy who shows up as a side character for a single scene in where the joke is about smoking weed in random movies.
That being said I got kind off excited when this was todays album since I've never heard his music.
I really liked this album. Slow country music with guitars and a really nice voice. This seems perfect to put on at home and just leave playing while reading in the evening.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
I have listened to a lot of RHCP throughout the years and they have a lot of songs I really like. Not every song is my favourite on this album but the songs that are great already have their place in my playlists.
Raekwon
1/5
This kind of hip-hop isn't really my style. The heavy focus on lyrics over beats and melody gets lost when English isn't my first language and I can't relate to the messages in the songs. This just isn't for me.
Eminem
4/5
This album was popular in my early teens so I have a lot of memories from moments and music videos on MTV from these songs.
A lot of great songs that I still listen to too this day and still love. Maybe its the memories, maybe its the songs just being that good. Either way this album will be my background noise for the rest of the day on repeat. As it has many times before.
Count Basie & His Orchestra
4/5
A great wind, big band, just straight up cool music group.
While this isn't something I listen to every day I can't help getting dragged along with the rhythm and instruments throughout this album.
Just good music the has its time and plays even today.
Erykah Badu
3/5
Smooth rhythms and great singing. The whole album is full of great R&B songs. Not much more to say, just a solid album through and through.
The Beach Boys
3/5
I remember listening to the beach boys on my dads old record player. To me its classic dance music with good rhythms and catchy lyrics. Listening today brought me back in a good way.
Deep Purple
4/5
Its Deep Purple, I don't know what more to write. Highway Star and Smoke on the water are classics in my eyes and songs that I will always love.
Great band and a great album.
Steve Winwood
3/5
I've never heard of Steve Winwood before but I really like his sound. The songs have a great rhythm that feels very 80s to me. A nice smooth listen through and through.
Caetano Veloso
1/5
Nice rhythm and feeling to the songs but they feel very old in the mixing. That plus me not knowing the language and therefore the lyrics made me not like the album. Also what's up with the Philips product placement on the album?
Miles Davis
3/5
Soulful and catchy. I don't know if this was played by ear or if they had notes but its really good.
OutKast
4/5
Great groupd and great album. This came out when I was 15 and I still remember a lot of the music videos on MTV. Multiple songs are on my playlists to this day.
Seeing it as todays album make me smile widely and listen through it yet again.
Dirty Projectors
1/5
While I cant call it bad by any means this music just didn't resonate with me at all. Indie music is very hit and miss for me and this was a miss.
Simple Minds
2/5
The only song I know by Simple Minds isn't on this album so I kind off expected more like that song and that is what I got in many ways.
Atmospheric songs with electronic melodies. It feels like a great album to have on in the background when cooking or something like that, nothing I will listen to every day though.
The Band
2/5
Smooth and pleasant to listen to. Not my kind of genre to listen to daily but enjoyable in piecemeal.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Slow and dark. Cosy and reassuring. Soulful music that resonates with me a lot. I like this album more than I thought I would when I started the first song. Great album over all even if it doesn't fit every time and place to listen to it.
Muddy Waters
2/5
Old soulful blues(?). Whan I think about when people talk about the genre from the 50s or 60s.
Nice rhythms but nothing I would listen to daily.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
Very psychedelic and strange but I like it. Its easy to bob along to the songs and its easy listening for the most part.
R.E.M.
2/5
While I have heard R.E.M plenty of times I dont think I have ever heard any song from this album.
Their sound is the same as what I have heard before though.
Catchy songs that contain a messages about the time when they were written.
Dinosaur Jr.
2/5
While I usually like this kind of music this artist or at least this album didn't resonate with me at all. I can't put my finger on exactly why but I didn't enjoyed my listen through.
Bon Jovi
3/5
Great album with plenty of songs already on some of my playlists. Simply good rock music.
Dire Straits
2/5
While sultan of swing is a great song the other on this album didn't speak to me att all. They were mostly ok but nothing I will listen to again I think.
Sonic Youth
1/5
I have heard about the band but never listened to them. Today I found out why. This wasnt an album I enjoyed at all.
Dexys Midnight Runners
1/5
THE one hit wonder band in my opinion. But this album wasnt very good in my ears. Slow and dragning lyrics, a lot of talking. A few Nice rhythms didn't fix the feeling I got from the album as a whole.
Milton Nascimento
1/5
Nice rhythms through out the album but the songs didn't catch my ear and the combination with me not understanding the language made me skip a lot. Not the best sign when listening to an album.
The Cure
1/5
Moody but catchy. The album balances just on the line for me. I like a few songs but can't really listen through some of the others. I'm conflicted on how to rate this but since I don't think I will listen to the songs again or add them to any playlists I can't give it a high rating.
The White Stripes
1/5
Except for seven nation army non of the songs catch me or even seem very good. The style of the album just isn't something I enjoyed.
The Cardigans
2/5
Some great songs on this album, Lovefool being the best. I have listen to the cardigans a fair bit since they are from Sweden so this isn't a new listen for me. Good to hear some of the songs I haven't listened to a while tho.
Fela Kuti
2/5
Really nice jazz album with classic 10+ minutes songs. The groove and feeling of the album was good. I enjoyed my listen throughout.
Nirvana
3/5
A classic album in the genre and some songs that I have heard throughout my life. Grunge isn't really my favorite type of music though so no high score from me.
Faust
1/5
I read that this is considered "Krautrock" a term I haven't heard before and one I probably wont see again for a long while.
It was a fun time listening to the album even though a lot of the songs have really weird vibes. Strange sounds in the background, rhythm changes, and new instruments are introduced throughout. Not something I will listen to again but a fun experience anyway.
Morrissey
4/5
Great voice and mellow songs. I just sab ack and enjoyed.
I haven't listened to Morrissey before but I probably will in the future. Great album!
The Verve
4/5
Bitter sweet symphony is the first song on this album and the only one I've heard with the Verve before.
While most of the album sounds similar to that first song there is something missing for me. I'm not just hooked on most of them. That being said there is still a few songs on here that I really liked. I had a nice time listening through it and will probably add a few songs to playlists.
Quicksilver Messenger Service
1/5
This has a clear sound of its time. By that I mean that its music that people certainly loved at the time it was created and people who listened to it back then still have fond memories about it. I would say that for the rest of us this feel outdated. I don't really know what to class this ass, rock? Folk? something in between before the genres were what they became maybe. Perhaps this album was the inspiration that created the albums that I would call timeless? There is maybe a hint of something with the guitar riffs and the style of singing.
While a nice snapshot of 1969 its not something I will listen to again.
Underworld
De La Soul
3/5
Great beats and a vibe throughout the album. Not exactly the style of music I usually listen to but I really enjoyed this album.
Kate Bush
3/5
Running up that hill has been a song I have loved for many years and the spike in popularity last year was well deserved. Other than that I don't know if I have listened to Kate Bush at all so this was something I looked forward to as I saw todays album. It was a mixed bag for me though. Some songs were slow or had strange rhythms that I didn't enjoy at all. Others were really atmospheric and I liked them a lot.
So not something I would listen to every day but certainly some songs that I really enjoy.
Dion
3/5
Very soulful album. Good singing and coherent smooth vibe throughout. Good songs that I could see myself listen to if in the mood.
Roxy Music
1/5
This was just to strange for me. The lyrics, rhythms, and sounds throughout the songs are to disconnected for me to enjoy them. Not something I will listen to again.
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
I have heard of a few Franz Ferdinand sons and I enjoy their music. Not enough to love every song on this album though. For me this has a lot of highs and lows. Some song I just wanted to skip mid way through because they weren't very good.
All that said it was fun listening to more of a band I had a limited amount of exposure to.
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
I like a lot on this album. The rock sound and the mellow singing are highlights. A lot of the songs become samey to me though. It feels like a lot of the album from 1991 and the comparison to Nirvana seems fitting even if the vibe of the songs are different.
The KLF
1/5
This electronic album didn't resonate with me at all. Perhaps its on this list because the band was pioneers in the genre? It just feels like a lot of things I've heard before.
Blondie
4/5
Great album. Her voice and the guitar riffs just made me lean back end enjoy for an hour.
While I recognize some songs every one fit the album in a coherent way really well.
Al Green
3/5
Classic soul. I knew what to expect and I got loads of it. Love the soul sound and the feel of the album. Gets you right in a soulful mood.
Moby Grape
2/5
Old school music that still sounds good today. Not much to say other than that the songs are good but its not something I would listen to often.
Grateful Dead
1/5
This was a ride and to be honest I'm not sure what to say about the album. Its a mix of a lot of things both from song to song but it also switches within the songs themselves.
It was a fun listen but not something I enjoy enough to listen to again I think.
Elvis Costello
4/5
Great songs throughout and I really like his voice. After reading I understand that he is quite big with the older generation. I think I have heard the name before but couldn't name a song he made. After this listen through I will definitely listen to his songs again!
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
2/5
Slow and impactful music. Not something I will listen to often but certainly an album that has its time and mood. When that feeling comes I think these songs become great.
Mylo
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
Great voice and really good jazzy music. Not something I would listen to every day but also something that I wouldn't switch away from if it started playing.
Radiohead
4/5
Good rock music and the singer has an interesting voice. I really like a lot of the songs.
Various Artists
4/5
Some really classic christmas songs on this album. Several already on my christmas playlist. Not much more to say other than the songs fit the season really well.
Love
2/5
Psychedelic rock can be very hit or miss with me. This album is both. Some songs are catchy and I enjoy them. Others are far to out there for me.
Harry Nilsson
2/5
He has a great voice but the songs didn't really appeal to me, the album might be to old to resonate with me maybe.
Even the "number one song" wasn't something I would listen to again if I had a choice. That might be because the cover seems so much better to me though.
The Byrds
2/5
The albums from the 60s have to have something special in it for me to give it a high score. While I understand the impact they might have had on later bands I judge them on what I hear and this album, while not bad, is not something that appeals to me. It just feels like there is so much better music made later than this that I would rather listen to.
That being said its another example of an album I'm glad I listened through just for the experience.
The Cult
3/5
Nice sound and good guitar riffs. This feels very 80s rock in a good way.
I hadn't heard about the band before but now that I have I will probably add a few songs to old-school rock playlists.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
This sure was a ride to listen to. Its experimental to say the least. Pretty slow with good vibes but nothing that compels me to listen to it again.
The title track had a nice story in the lyrics and probably the song I would most likely listen to again if I had to.
Turbonegro
1/5
Nice rock with a bit of punk sprinkled in. As a lot of punk is though the music often rely heavily on the time and place where it was created. As someone not from that time and place this doesn't appeal to me very much.
Sonic Youth
2/5
Reminds me a lot of other grunge bands but not as aggressive and I don't know if it fits. At the same time it also feels like some kind of pop-rock but with more dist in the guitars which also creates a sound I have a hard time pinpointing. That being said a lot of the songs are easy to listen to while going about the day. I don't know if its something I would actively listen to but I also wont skip to the next song.
Suede
2/5
slow britrock. While good I feel like I've heard it before even before I listened to the album. Nothing wrong with the music but nothing that makes me seek it out. While the singer has a good voice and I don't dislike the songs on this album, Beautiful Ones is the only song that I know by Suede and I don't think any song on this album will stick with me enough to remember it.
Nick Drake
1/5
The guitar and backing music is rhythmic and smooth. The singers voice doesn't work for me at all though sadly. Ofc this is purely a personal opinion but its to whiney for me, couldn't listen through the entire album.
Madonna
3/5
While I haven't listened to this album before there are so many songs I have heard a lot throughout the years. Hearing them on the same album makes me realize just how many good songs Madonna has. Even though I don't actively choose to listen to Madonna when I pick what to listen to she has so many songs that I never skip when they come on.
That being said I really like this album and had a great time listening through it.
Janelle Monáe
4/5
I love when the days album is by an artist I have never heard of so I have no idea what to expect when I start listening.
After the first song I went about making breakfast with the album playing in me headphones and suddenly 7 songs had passed and I was really enjoying the music. While its not a style I often listen to myself songs from this album will have their place in several playlists so I can groove along when they come up.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Great classic album and really cool that it was live at san Quentin. I've heard a lot of Cash before so not much more to write than that I really like it!
The Rolling Stones
1/5
While the rolling stones is one of THE classic bands in history this album isn't their best work if you ask me. While I clearly recognize their sound and where they evolved from none of these songs are as good, or even close to, some of their later work.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
A really pleasant album with smooth songs that feels perfect to just lay back and relax to. I'm not that familiar with Stevie Wonders songs so this was a nice album to listen through to get to know his music better.
David Bowie
2/5
David Bowie has made a lot of great music and some songs on this album are definitely included when I say that. Even to a lot of this album doesn't have a lot of singing the ambiance it brings is great. Not something I would listen to every day but it certainly has its place when the mood kicks in.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I have heard Leonard Cohens name throughout the years and I have heard Hallelujah sung by him but before this album that's about it.
He has a nice voice and the slow tempo songs creates a mood in a great way. If I were in that particular mood I can see this album being the perfect thing to play in the background while reading for example.
That being said its definitely not an every-day listening album for me.
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
Maybe its me who doesn't get it but the mixing on this album where the drums and distorted guitars are so loud that I can't hear the singer/singers (I really can't hear if there is 1,2, or 3 singing) makes me almost instantly dislike this album. The instruments themselves are good and it feels like something I would enjoy if I could hear what they were saying. I understand that this mixing was a choice from their side but for me it doesn't work at all.
The Blue Nile
2/5
The songs on this album are very good at setting the mood. Its and album I think need the right place of mind to really enjoy fully. That being said I didn't dislike the songs as and the album is definitely something I could see myself listen to if I remember it existing when I'm in the right time and place. that's a big if though.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Great artist with a lot of great songs. I haven't listened to an album from start to finish by Bob Marley before so this was a great experience. Smooth and rhythmic songs with exactly the sound I expect from this artist.
The Beach Boys
1/5
I remember my dad listening to the Beach Boys on LP discs when I was young. That album was a lot more up-beat than this one though.
While I recognize the Beach Boys sound most of the songs feel almost depressing to me and perhaps that was the intention with this later album.
The album has a consistent vibe throughout but a bit to sad for me, at least today when I am listening to it.
Yes
3/5
A very interesting album with big differences between songs. The experimental parts mostly work well.
I liked the feel of the songs a lot. Its not a band or genre I have listened to a lot before but I think I will in the future.
OutKast
3/5
I listened a bunch to Outcasts album that came out 3 years after this one. That was wasn't as heavy hip-hop as this one is except for Ms. Jackson. This is also shown in the amount of listens each song has. Their later album was much more aimed at the general public and was played a lot on the radio and MTV.
I really like the hip-hop songs on this album though, the beat and flow is really nice and takes me back to early 2000s music. All the Interlude songs takes me out of the album as a whole though. I just want to vibe out to the music and a lot of the interludes takes me out of that. Take those out and you have a bunch of songs I would listen to again and just put on in the background while going about my day.
Frank Ocean
1/5
I have listened to this album before and its mostly ok. Its a lot of the same for me. The songs don't really drag me in and the tempo never changes.
The Jam
2/5
A good album as a whole but the individual songs differ to much for me. Some are great while others I can't get in to at all.
Very mod-rock-isch with a very British sound all around.
The Isley Brothers
2/5
Very soulful music that feels right out of the 70s or 80s. Definitely a vibe throughout the whole album. I recognize parts of Summer Breeze but other than that the album is new to me. Most of the songs are something I wouldn't turn of if they came on while listening to music but soul isn't a genre I listen to a lot either.
Pixies
3/5
I got this album on day 115 and I have realized that I write more and more about how albums sound like the start of something or that I can see why an album is on this list based on the fact that I can see all the later bands that got their influences from there.
This album falls somewhere in between. It both takes from previous alt-rock bands but transforms it to something new that I feel I have heard parts of a million times in rock bands all through the 90s and 2000s.
Good songs throughout and even though all of the songs doesn't create a consistent feeling or flow the songs all fit together and the differing feelings made me enjoy the whole experience.
James Brown
1/5
The Godfather of soul has a lot of great hits throughout the years. A few of them are on this album. It is however live and an artist I don't listen to a lot. That made me appreciate it less. It was an ok listen but if I want to hear James Brown I wouldn't choose this album.
The Gun Club
1/5
Not very agressive punk was my take away after the first song and I feel that I was right with that take. The songs were okay but not my kind of music from the start and they didn't win me over.
I have mentioned it before but some albums on the list seems to be there because of the influence on the genre they had/have and this feels to me like one of those albums. Nothing bad about it per say but nothing that pulls me in and want to listen to it again either.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Much slower than his earlier albums, especially the live from prison album. But so soulful, so earnest, so good. This is a great album through and through.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
I have heard the name of the band throughout my life in various media but I have never listened to the velvet underground and its not at all what I expected. For some reason I thought they would be a lot more punk-ish. That being said this is a really nice album with some good songs and some I didn't really like.
Not my cup of tea for everyday listening but not bad at all.
The Who
1/5
I usually like old school rock but the mojority of this album was just to strange for me. The distorted guitar sounds are really cool though.
Richard Thompson
3/5
Some good songs on this album, soft, slower songs with a lot of feeling to them. While I don't get why this albus is considered a masterpiece its definitely good. Songs to play in the background when you want this particular kind of mood to be your backdrop.
Radiohead
3/5
I have listened to radiohead before and they have some songs I really like. This album might just be a bit to experimental for me though. Amongst some really good songs there are some that I just want to skip.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Classic Michael Jackson is great. This album has so many classic songs from him. Since I have listened to him a lot before I don't have much more to add, the reflections from listening to the daily album kind of looses its point when I already have a clear picture and feeling about the album.
All that being said I'm gonna lean back, close my eyes and listen to man in the mirror again.
The Cure
3/5
The cure was a big part in creating genres that I can enjoy today end unlike some others that has done that this album still feels relevant to the genre. A lot of others feel old and obsolete in their sound when compared to newer albums that have evolved the genre.
While dark and gloomy this album doesn't get me in a gloomy mood. I quite enjoy most of the songs. It is an album and genre that demands a certain state of mind to listen to though.
Paul Simon
5/5
This is a really interesting album and I mean that in the best possible way. The songs are very different with Pauls distinctive voice and the guitar as some of the only things that binds the album together.
I cant stop listening to the album as a whole. The switch from an African choir singing in what I assume is their native tongue to an accordion is insane and yet it somehow works. And then suddenly "You can call me Al" comes on. How have I never heard the rest of this album when I've heard this song so many times before?
Very good album throughout and an awesome experience to listen through it.
Iron Maiden
4/5
I have listened to a lot of Iron Maiden in my youth and they have a lot of great songs. I really enjoy this album but since I have listen to the songs so many times before writing my impressions here feels wrong somehow.
Great early metal and an iconic band still going strong.
Aerosmith
2/5
While I have heard Aerosmiths most famous songs I haven't listened to this album or any of these songs before. And after doing it I understand why I never listened to more than the greatest hits.
The audio mix and scream-singing he does over and over makes me fell uncomfortable more than it makes me rock out.
I like a lot of old-school rock but this doesn't hit that note with me at all. This is an album I wont be searching up again.
Grant Lee Buffalo
2/5
Clean sounds and interesting songs. Some songs are much catchier than others though. Not catchier as in sing-a-long catchy. More along jamming along and wanting to listen to again catchy. I had a good time listening through the album but I don't think I will come back to it anytime soon.
Santana
4/5
In the middle of the second song i leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes and listened through the entire album. Its perfect relaxation music. Not much more to say other than this is one album I vill have to remember and come back to when the mood kicks in.
Korn
3/5
One of the biggest things I have learned while doing this is that year and genre doesn't mean I have listened to an artist or album as much as I thought. Early 00s were my teens and I consumed a lot of music back then yet I still find "new" music to me which I love.
That being said I listened to Korn (along with P.O.D a lot) when this came out. I have listened to the album many times and I owned the CD.
Great alt-rock album through and through.
Its sometimes a bit strange but it works well as a coherent album that brings me back 27 years in time.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
1/5
Solid guitar riffs and old school rock feeling to the album. It doesn't connect with me though. It feels to slow and I'm not a huge fan of the singers voice in most of the songs.
Faith No More
3/5
Epic is a great song and the only one I had heard from Faith No More before this. It has a few interesting songs with different genres as a base it feels like.
It was great listening through the album but I don't think its something I will listen to again at the same time I wouldn't switch away if it turned up in a random playlist.
U2
2/5
Some really classic U2 songs on this album but its the same as the band has always been to me their hits are great and I love hearing them. Then they have a lot of songs that sound kind of same-y that I usually skip and this album has a lot of those kind of songs so not a very high score from me even if One and Mysterious Ways are good enough to listen to on repeat a few times.
Common
1/5
Some good catchy songs on this album. As with a lot of music in the genre it unfortunately doesn't hit as hard when English is your second or third language since it requires looking up the lyrics and reading along to get the depth of rap and that in turn requires me to get interested enough in the song to look that deep in to it. I still enjoyed the album and the beats bobbing along catching bits and pieces here and there.
Fairport Convention
1/5
Folk music isn't really my vibe most of the time and really old folk music even less. I can understand why people like this but the slow songs and gentle singing puts me to sleep. And just when I'm relaxed the singer hits a long high note from nowhere that is two times as loud and I wake up again. I bet this inspired a lot of todays folk music singers but even the evolved version of this isn't for me.
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
This was a great rock (or bluesrock in song songs) album. I haven't heard the band before but I really like the guitar playing. After this I'm gonna go listen to a non live album to see what they sound like with some more mixing in a studio environment. I have a feeling there will be songs I might add to many playlists.
Hole
3/5
Another totally new band for me. It was a fun listen through of the album. I felt like I was back in my youth listening to alt-rock bands. While it isn't the music genre of choice for me any more I still appreciate the songs and I liked quite a few of them. If I would have found them 20 years ago I can see myself feeling even more nostalgic today.
Iron Maiden
2/5
The first album from a band I have listened to a lot throughout the years. I didn't recognize any of these songs though and after listening I now know why. While the sound they made synonymous with the band is kind of there somewhere in the drums and guitars but other than that I think they have made so much better music later on that I can safely pass on listening to this again without missing out on a great band.
R.E.M.
3/5
I liked this album quite a lot. It has some really good songs and the rest aren't bad by any means.
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
A classic album I have heard many times with some really good and hard hitting songs. Loved it just as much today as 20 years ago.
Black Sabbath
2/5
I have heard a bunch of black sabbath through the years and I like a lot of it.
Their signature sound is certainly here in this album and you can clearly see where they started. At the same time it makes it clear what they refined towards later albums. It was fun listening to this album but I think I'll stick to the later songs personally.
Nirvana
4/5
Really interesting having an unplugged/acoustic album on this list. Its really good though. A lot of raw emotion in the songs that stir up a lot of feelings.
Don't know if its something that I would listen to daily but I'm glad to have listened to it and when the mood is right I will probably listen again.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
This album starts of with the Immigrant song, one of the greatest rock songs ever if you ask me. Its a hard song to follow and this album has some songs that I would rather skip but that's mostly to get to some of the other really good songs still left on the album. Its a really mixed bag for me but all and all I enjoyed it as a whole with some great stand out songs.
Billy Bragg
3/5
I have heard the name Billy Bragg before and Wilco seems familiar but I can't say I know if I have heard a single song by them.
The songs are smooth and calm with a good tempo. After listening through the album I don't really know what to write. The album didn't really make me feel anything special or react in a certain way. I just leaned back and enjoyed the songs and a lot of the times that is exactly what you need from an album.
Miles Davis
3/5
I was surprised when I was just 2 songs on the album. Then I saw the length of each song and remembered who Miles Davis is and it made a lot more sense. I don't listen to jazz very much but this was a fun time hearing the musicians jamming out. I can see myself having this on the the background with a drink in my hand a summer evening in the future.
The Cure
2/5
The cure isn't a bad that I have liked a lot before. Its not that I dislike anything in particular about them its more that I don't get the appeal and their songs don't stick with me. While I haven't listened to an entire album like I did today my opinion is still the same. I cant quite put my finger on it but I just don't vibe with this music at all.
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
Classic soul music. Great vibes and good music. Not an everyday listen for me but when you get in the mood nothing beats this classic sound.
Snoop Dogg
2/5
While I don't listen to rap a lot some songs on this album are classics I couldn't have missed even if I wanted to. A lot of the songs I don't recognize are noticeably worse though. As I have said on other rap albums, me not having English as my first language makes the barrier to entry bigger since the song has to have a great beat/hook for me to give it enough time/chances to learn the lyrics and understand the deeper message that is often there in rap/hip hop.
Incubus
3/5
Some pretty good songs on this album. The alt rock I remember from my youth (not specifically this band though). Good vocals and a sound that feels like it probably influenced a lot of later alt-rock bands since I feel like I have heard similar things to this but later than 1999. Definitely something I will listen to again, at least individual songs.
Metallica
4/5
Classic metal album that I have listened to a million times before and will listen through again now that you gave me the opportunity today!
Calexico
2/5
I was really vibing with this album. Loving the first 2 songs and then the third short song took me out of it. The start of Black heart didn't help at all.
While the album tried to find itself again after that I couldn't. While later songs weren't bad at all I couldn't get back to that initial feeling I had from the first two songs.
The Velvet Underground
1/5
I just couldn't get in to this album at all. I can't really put my finger on why but something about the style of music, the mixing, and the singing just didn't vibe with me at all. I might have to come back to this another day to see if I feel differently then.
The Pogues
3/5
To me the Pogues have always been the "Fairytale of New York" band. Their sound is the same throughout this album and I like it a lot. A very nice folk music feel.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Great voice and good songs throughout the album. A really solid pop album with a lot of slower songs which I really enjoyed.
1/5
This album was the opposite of my vibe from the first note to the last. I can't find much to like about the songs at all. They are to slow, the voice is whiny, and the mixing is kind of weird at points. Big no from me.
Def Leppard
4/5
Classic 80s rock music that I've heard many times. Some great songs to jam out to. There are some I would skip but as a whole the album is good.
Metallica
4/5
For me this is as classic metal album as it gets. If you know Metallica you recognize their sound straight away and the album delivers exactly what you expect. Nothing new to me but certainly an enjoyable listen through again.
Depeche Mode
3/5
Good electronic album with some songs i recognize. Not the kind of music I listen to every day since its so slow but not something I dislike either.
Rush
2/5
I only knew of Rush as a rock band so the first song on this album being over 20 minutes long took me by surprise. It has a lot of twists and turns and while I don't know what genre they are categorized in I would put this heavily in stoner-rock. Its definitely an album that you have to close your eyes, lean back, and just take in. It was a great ride though. I liked the first song more than the other 5.
Coldcut
2/5
Since this albums isn't on Spotify I listened to it on Youtube which had the full album available.
Its a good album with nice electronic songs that has a different vibe to most of them yet the album still feels cohesive. I had a fun time listening through it but I don't think I will come back to it again. There is better music out there that I would pick before this to listen to.
AC/DC
5/5
AC/DC is a great band and this is a great album. I heard it growing up and listening to it today brought me back in a really good way.
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
This was a really fun album to listen through. Great beats throughout and the song had a cohesive feeling that made the whole album great as something to listen through in order. I can definitely see myself putting this on while reading when its dark or stormy outside.
The Beta Band
1/5
This was way to experimental for me. I couldn't vibe with it at all. Most songs are just so slow and a lot of the background notes physically hurt my ears.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Some pretty good songs on this album. She has a great voice and the different instruments they use to layer the songs sound great. Added a few songs to playlists and when in the mood this feels great as background listening at an afterparty while cooling off.
Soft Machine
2/5
Very jazz heavy album with some psychedelics thrown in. I was jamming along to some parts of the songs but then they got a bit to strange for me. The instruments were great and then the singer started making strange sounds for a while before singing. I would have liked the album much more without the singing parts. Just the jazz sound would have gave it a higher score for me.
Les Rythmes Digitales
1/5
A fun electronic album with some remixes of songs i recognize. Mostly it made me want to listen to the originals though.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I love CCR and I have listened to them a lot throughout the years since my parents listened to them when I was young. This album have some absolute classics on it like Proud Mary. Its easy to see where their classic sound has come from. I was going to write something about maybe choosing another of their albums personally but the songs I feel are CCRs best are so spread out through the years that an early album like this is a good way of showing how good they have always been.
4/5
A good rock album with a singer who has a really good voice for the kind of music she makes. It reminds me a bit of Fleetwood Mac at times. The more mainstream rock music and her smoother on the verge of raspy(?) voice creates songs that I will come back to in the future.
Supergrass
3/5
Quite good rock music with a sound that feels really familiar, probably since a lot of alt-rock around this time has a similar sound. Supergrass do have their own twist that clearly shows in the album. Great tempo and some catchy songs on here. Will definitely listen to again.
Ramones
3/5
Classic punk album that I have heard many times before. Mixed quality in the songs to me and a lot of the deeper meaning is kind of lost since its from a time before mine in a language that isn't my first. All that said I had a great time listening through it again today!
The Kinks
2/5
Very old sounding rock that seems very "of its time". Not really my tempo at all. The singing of the uniqueness is often something that cam make me appreciate older music but this didn't have anything that drew me in.
Jazmine Sullivan
4/5
Really digging the feeling of this album. Great soul music that I haven't heard before. I closed my eyes and starting swaying along with the music and then the album was done. Gonna go listen again!
Leonard Cohen
4/5
I wish I had gotten this album in the autumn/winter months. It feels like it would have been even better on a dark day with rain or snow outside. That said its still very good on a sunny day as today. So much feeling and depth to the songs. Its hard not to fall in to a calm and deep mood when listening to this. Something I will definitely safe and listen to again in half a year or so.
Blur
2/5
I've listened to this album before, many years ago. There are some good songs on there but the kind of music blur makes doesn't resonate with me much. I can't say exactly why but I'm just not really drawn in by the songs.
The good songs are added to my playlists since before and the others wont be.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
I have heard Nick Cave and the bad seeds before and they never drew me in. Its music that I wouldn't skip on shuffle but most songs aren't something I would listen to daily. The singing style is something I don't like very much which is sad because the rhythms and instrumental parts are great.
That being said I found some songs on this album that I really liked so forcing myself to listen through the entire album paid off today. I might have to listen to some more of their songs to see if I'm missing out on something else.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
3/5
This group was totally new to me. Their sound has a really good base with country and then they add other things on top. It's not something I would listen to every day but I can certainly appreciate how well put together and mixed the songs are. It was a fun experience listening through the album.
Hugh Masekela
3/5
I really like the heavy trumpet focus on this album. Its of course natural since the man who's name is on the album plays that instrument but I feel I needed to add it since jazz isn't a genre I usually listen to.
While I enjoyed most of the songs a few of them seemed to drag a bit and some of the screeching sounds he makes with the trumpet are just bad.
Although all that might just be me not "understanding" the album. Either way it was a fun album to listen through.
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
From the first note you know this is going to be psychedelic music and it certainly is. In a way that is about 200 percent to strange for me. While some parts of certain songs were good they quickly turned in to strange notes, strange singing and things I don't really know how to describe. Its always fun listening to the album of the day but I can't say this was something I will ever listen to again.
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
An ok electronic album in my eyes. No song really pulled me in but no song sounded really bad either. Very middle of the road for me
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
Holy distorted guitarsound! I am kind of lost on what to say about this album other than that. The singing is so so so low volume, the drums and bass is in the middle and then they guitar is twice as loud if not even more.
I couldn't get in to this att all.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
While I certainly have heard about Stevie Wonder I have never listened to him before this. I like the funk sound throughout and the whole album had a lot of nice songs. The genre itself lowers the score for me though. Its not really something I see myself listen to on its own another day.
The Smiths
3/5
Good rock music and the singer has a nice voice. Really nice to have on in the background while working around the house.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Another Creedence album is always welcome. Although its songs I have heard many times before its still great and I will continue listening in years to come.
Carole King
2/5
I don't know exactly what it is (I think its something in the audio mix) but the songs have something that makes me dislike the sound. I can hear parts I like in the songs but there is something in the back of the audio that just pushes me away from loving it. I listened to some of her songs from later albums and remasters and the feeling was gone. The songs sounded lovely and what I heard felt so much better.
Nico
1/5
Not my vibe at all. Very depressing in a bad way. Emotional albums with a somber mood can be great. This one isn't if you ask me.
Public Enemy
3/5
Good hip hop album that clearly shows what time its from which isn't a bad thing in this case. I haven't heard much of public enemy before but I like a lot of what I hear here.
Motörhead
4/5
I've seen Motörhead live more than once and live their music so the songs aren't new to me. Having a live album on this list wasn't something I expected though. The quality of a live performance from 1981 is extremely good and the crowd yelling along adds to the feeling.
The album is great, the band sounds just as good as when I saw them 20+ years later.
Alice In Chains
4/5
Really nice rock album. I like the grunge feel to it. If I had heard this in my teens it would be played on repeat a lot. Today I will have to make due with a listen through and adding some of my favorites on suiting playlists.
David Bowie
2/5
I like a lot of Bowies earlier albums and songs, he has some real classics. This album doesn't vibe with me at all though. I don't know how to explain it. The songs aren't straight up bad but I just can't get in to them.
Sisters Of Mercy
1/5
Dark rock from the 80s isn't something I was expecting today. Its not something I'm familiar with and after today I probably wont be again. Its very monotone and tries to create an atmosphere that just doesn't work for me. Its just boring.
David Bowie
2/5
An ok Bowie album. Some good songs and some not so good ones. None were great though which is to bad. I didn't get pulled in enough to listen again I think.
Joe Ely
3/5
Good classic county. Great when in the right mood but not an everyday album for me.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
She has a great voice and catchy music. I had heard one song before but the whole album was a blast listening through.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
l love Springsteen and this albums has some real bangers. You can clearly hear how much younger he was compared to now just based on his voice. Listening through this at least once today and it might be more.
Bill Evans Trio
4/5
Some chill jazz was exactly what I needed today without knowing it. Just a lovely album through and through.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
5/5
I love RHCP and this album is a classic in my eyes. Nothing new but a great start to my Saturday with a cup of coffee and this in my ears.
Orbital
1/5
I liked some of the songs on the album but a lot of them had sounds mixed in that just doesn't vibe with me. It take me out of the mood and song completely.
2/5
The Kinks are a band I've heard a lot before. Not many songs from this album though and I kind of get why after today. While their sound is similar to their more famous songs there is something missing for me with this album. Nothing bad about it, just something missing for it to be really good.
David Bowie
3/5
Not my favorite Bowie album but some good songs on here. If you know Bowie you know what you´re going to get.
Tom Waits
1/5
This was so bad I had to stop halfway through. I don't even know where to begin with this. Its just the opposite of what I would want to listen to at any point.
Manu Chao
3/5
While I don't know a single word being sung the vibes are great. Definitely something I would have on in the background in the summer.
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
I have head the band name before but couldn't give you a song name at all. Some of the song names sure are a sign of the time it was written. All that being said the album is a funk/soul album with a few pretty good songs a bunch of songs that makes me want to listen more to the genre. Just not this album or band. There is definitely great things happening in the songs, the brass and singing is really good. It just sort of falls flat for me a lot of the time.
Shuggie Otis
3/5
GREAT vibes throughout this album. The song quality is very up and down to me though. The highs are really high so I would choose my favorites and just add those to a playlist rather than listening to the entire album again.
Slint
2/5
A very interesting album, a lot of different things going on in every song. I had a fun time listening through it even though Its not something I think I will listen to again. When I listen to music I often get a sense of when I would listen to it in my everyday life. I can't say I get that feeling at all with Slint.
Queen
5/5
I love Queen and I love this album. I could listen to this all day and i just might.
Khaled
1/5
While some songs have catchy rhythms to them I just can't get in to it at all. While I listened through all the songs I think the singing being in a language very different from mine made it a bit less enjoyable. To me the singing wasn't on beat and very harsh in songs where it didn't fit at all.
The xx
3/5
Intro is a really great song that I have heard many times before. Other than that I haven't heard the XX at all. I kind of get why today. While the other songs aren't bad by any means they just aren't as good as Intro.
The whole album has a great mood running throughout it that I enjoy and Infinity is one of the songs I added to a few playlists for the future.
Jimi Hendrix
1/5
Another album where I have heard one song and the rest of them doesn't even have close to the same amount of listens combined. While there isn't anything wrong with the other songs most of them are very experimental and from a time which I am not. These things combined gives this album a low score for me. Maybe hearing them in another context would change that but I can't think of when that would be other than in the 60s.
Duran Duran
4/5
I like Duran Duran, its pop music in the best of ways. I grew up with some of these song and hearing some of them again after many years were a thrill.
Missy Elliott
3/5
An album from my teens. I remembers a lot of the songs from the radio and MTV. Great listening to them again. The songs that weren't as successful I kind of get why now. They aren't straight up bad. They just don't hit as hard.
Grateful Dead
2/5
Good vibes throughout this album. Relaxing and easy to listen to rock. Not something I would listen to every day but I can see it playing in the background on a summer day while outside relaxing.
David Bowie
3/5
The 3rd (I think) Bowie album I've gotten on this list. This one is the closest to what I think of when I hear someone talking about him and I like it. Great voice, good songs and a coherent vibe throughout.
The Darkness
4/5
I remember when this album came out. The high pitched voice. The Guitar riffs. It feels like 80s hair rock made 20 years to late but still exactly when it was meant to. It came out of nowhere and is just as good today as I remember it when I first heard it in 2003 more than 20 years later.
Little Richard
3/5
Great fun songs and happy vibes throughout the album. I had a really fun time listening and loved his voice!
3/5
Pretty good old-school rock. Good singing and you get a good feel for the time it was made. Not an everyday listen for me though.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
Not my favorite album or songs by this bad but its not bad by any means. Really good sounding older rock and Tom Petty with a great voice.
The Boo Radleys
3/5
Some interesting and good songs mixed with some experimental songs. Not an album i would listen through from start to finish again but the songs I liked might be something I will add to playlists.
Iggy Pop
1/5
Not my kind of rock at all. I don't really vibe with hos voice and most of the songs feel to slow in some way. Its hard to explain what I mean, slow songs can be great but these feel slow in a unintended way.
The Strokes
3/5
Great distorted sound on both vocals and guitar. Some nice songs on the album but some songs also didn't speak to me as much, a mixed bag.
Slipknot
4/5
Some great songs on the album. The singers voice is really good both with the darker voice that comes out in some songs and in songs where he mostly sings cleanly like Dead Memories. I had a great time listening through this one!
Minor Threat
2/5
Punk isnt really my genre. Especially not this kind. That being said some songs are okay I my book.
Jeff Beck
3/5
Great voice and guitar playing! I really like the vibes of the entire album.
Adele
5/5
So many iconic songs on this album. Her voice from the slow low songs to the high notes... A true 5/5 for me.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
The punk music hiding behind the seemingly random noises doesn't come close to saving this for me. If I could give it a lower score I would.
FKA twigs
2/5
Interesting music and I'm happy its in this list. Not something I will listen to again probably though.
Pearl Jam
4/5
Pearl Jam is a band I have listened to a lot but never a whole album. 3 songs were already on some of my playlist and while Eddie Vedder had a great voice about half of the songs don't speak to me as much.
It was fun listening through it but I will probably stick to my favorites.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
I have heard about the man but not the band. Never listened to him before I think. Nice pop-punk album and a few songs that really stand out. An artist I think I will look up and listen more to After this.
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
I Love Springsteen and this album, while it doesn't have any of my favorite songs, is great. Exactly what I expect and want from him.
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
It was a real treat listening to this album. I have heard a few songs from Jerry Lee Lewis but I've never heard him live before.
Not my favorite music genre but the energy I got from this feels great!
Coldplay
3/5
While i have heard a bunch of Coldplay songs before this album started of with some songs I hadn't heard before and they weren't bad by any means. But then The scientist and Clocks started playing and it became clear why some of their songs have more than 20 times as many listens on Spotify as others.
Coldplay is still a great band and they have many great songs. So while I wont be listening through the entire album again I did go on a binge of their best songs according to me.
The Kinks
2/5
An interesting album with a pop undertone. The age comes through clearly but not in a bad way. Not exactly music that I like to listen to but it was fun listening to.
Brian Eno
1/5
Another one that has to many weird sounds that don't fit in for me. Not something I enjoyed listening to, even just to have listened once like some other albums.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
5/5
What a great surprise this album was to listen to. It has a lot of great jazz songs and then Take Five came on. I had no Idea where this song was from or who made it but I have heard it many times before.
This was a real treat of an album, exactly what I had hoped to find when I first started listening through this list.
Killing Joke
2/5
Good old fashioned Punk through and through. Not really my cup of tea but not the worst thing I have heard either. It feels difficult to rate since its not a genre I listen to a lot or enjoy listening to.
Goldfrapp
4/5
Immaculate vibes throughout this album. The smooth singing, the range of instruments in different songs. It feels perfect having playing on a lazy warm day. The band is totally new for me but definitely something I will listen to again.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
Way to experimental/industiral ,or what you might call the mostly strange sounds that happen throughout the album, for my taste. I didn't enjoy this at all and I hope my Spotify discover weekly wont get any weird ideas from this.
Beastie Boys
3/5
Good old school hip-hop with a clear message in the songs. Brings me back a bit and the songs have a good beat. Don't know if its something I would listen to every day though.
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Fun and groovy music with themes from Africa and south America mixed with rap and instrumental. It kind of reminds me of Yello i some songs but the album as a whole is hard to put a finger on what its trying to be other than an expression of Malcom McLaren and what he felt like making. That isn't a bad thing, it just makes it harder to try and categorize what I just listened to.
Any way I enjoyed most of it so I wont think to deeply about it and just play my favorites again!
The Dictators
2/5
Really early punk-rock with a clear sound and even some sort of ballads sprinkled in (even if its a cover).
A real fun listen through.
Ray Charles
4/5
While I don't listen to it very often big band and swing is still a genre I really enjoy. When the mood strikes there is nothing better. Ray Charles is a master at this so its easy to enjoy this album throughout.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
He has a really great voice and the solemn music is really nice. It feels like exactly the right music for some occasions and something I would skip every other time it came on.
The Slits
1/5
Not a style of punk that appeals to me.
Radiohead
3/5
While I like the first album better this change of style sounds really good as well. The kind of rock that I listened to in my younger days and still speaks to me from time to time.
2/5
British alt-rock as it sounds in my head when I imagine any band from the 90s in the genre. It has a good feel to it but to me its more something that I leave on if it comes on the radio or on a random playlist than something I would actively listen to.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
He has a good voice and the guitar playing is great. Its something about that old recording sound that's old but not to old that feels really nice listening to. Its mostly to slow for me in the rock genre though so not something I will listen to often again.
Isaac Hayes
2/5
They voice is everything here and its deep and smooth. Its not enough to drag me in though. It was a fun listen but not something I will come back to.
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
Bossa nova and even some songs in a language I don't speak a word of is one of the things I love about this list. Something I would never have listened to if not for this.
The sound is exactly what I think about when I hear the term bossa nova. She has a great voice but I don't really know when I would choose the genre to listen to in my daily life.
808 State
1/5
I don't know exactly why but I couldn't get in to this album at all. It has some nice thing going on but the vibe just isn't there for me. After I listened I read about the album and my only conclusion is that acid house maybe isn't for me.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
To me this band is the best example of a one hit wonder. The ultimate answer to a quiz question. Everyone has heard Come on Eileen but not many people know the band behind the song.
I hadn't listen to them other than that song until today. Their sound remains the same throughout the songs and the singers voice is the same in all the songs.
Some were catchier than others but something is lacking when compared to their biggest hit.
Not a bad album at all and I added some of the songs on playlist for the future. A really fun experience listening to a band where I have heard only one song so many times before.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Fun rock album with a different sound. No song really dragged me in though. Nothing wrong with it, its just not something that I would pick when choosing music.
Chicago
2/5
Until I read the Wikipedia entry I didn't connect this band to the band I know as Chicago. They sond very different and their later sound really shows how a band can evolve.
There is nothing wrong with this album at all but it isn't something I would choose amongst other great music.
Rufus Wainwright
4/5
This album hit absolutely right with me today. Great voice slow music with clear lyrics and great feeling throughout.
Black Sabbath
5/5
Classic rock/metal album with songs I have heard growing up. Ozzy's voice and the guitar riffs are so classic it gets me in a great mood.
I could, and probably will, listen to this all day!
Tori Amos
4/5
Tori has a great voice and the songs are catchy and easy to listen to. I haven't heard her before but I will definitely listen again!
The Sonics
1/5
While I can appreciate bands like this that paved the way for many bands I listen to today and the sound they helped create I can't get in to this at all. The recording sounds way to bad and the levels are all over the place.
Brian Wilson
2/5
The album as a whole is okay and Brians voice is easy to recognize. But to me there is something missing that a lot of beach boys songs have and I can't quite put my finger on what. This isn't bad by any means but not something I will listen to again I think.
Steely Dan
3/5
Smooth rock album with a nice vibe to it.
The Afghan Whigs
2/5
Alt-rock with nothing special about it to me. Its not bad but no song pulled me in and made me want to listen again.
Stan Getz
3/5
As I understand it this is the start of the bossa nova craze and it delivers exactly what I would expect in that regard. Other than that the saxophone parts a really good. While I don't understand the language at all the smooth voices still makes it a good album.
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
I have never listened to this album all the way through just some of the more famous songs (of which there are many). There isn't a bad song on the entire album. This is one of the best albums through and through that I have listened to.
The Kinks
3/5
Some really good rock songs on this album that I hadn't heard before. Not the kind of rock I usually listen to since it often feels kind of dated. This album has a part of that but it still holds up good enough for me to enjoy it.
Tangerine Dream
1/5
This is way to out there for me. Maybe I'm just not in the right headspace for it but 3 out of 4 songs i disliked. The last one was okay but sounded more like something that should be in the background of a movie scene then something that I would listen to when wanting music.
Christine and the Queens
4/5
A solid electro-pop album. The fact that there is 2 albums with the same songs but one in English and one in French is really cool. I listened through the English album and then I listened to the songs in order but in alternating languages. A really nice time and easy listening music.
The Notorious B.I.G.
3/5
A good rap album that is very of its time. You can clearly tell where and when it was recorded.
Big Black
1/5
To much distortion and strange noises for me to enjoy.
Air
2/5
The album sets a mood and it does it really well. As something to have on in the background while reading or wanting to feel a certain way is something I could see myself doing.
Its not music I would listen to everyday though.
B.B. King
4/5
B.B. King is a legend in not just blues but in music as a whole. It was great listening to a live recording of songs that I have listened to a lot before.
Scissor Sisters
2/5
I remember when this album was released and the songs that were everywhere on the radio. The songs that hit it big still holds up but for me the album as a whole becomes to much after a few songs in a row.
Skepta
2/5
A few good songs but those songs are the songs that are the least grime on the album. Its not a genre I really enjoy listening to that being said I can appreciate a well made album. I have heard a lot worse throughout this list.
The Youngbloods
3/5
I did not expect this king of folk-rock feeling from an 1969 album. I guess that shows why listening through this list was a great choice for me.
The album it self has some very good songs and some that I would rather skip. It feels really experimental as a whole while individual songs has more of a clear goal of what it wants to be.
Fugees
3/5
Ready or not and Killing me softly with his song were everywhere when this came out. They are still both great. I haven't heard the other songs before and while it is a mixed bad there are more songs than just those two that I like.
Pavement
2/5
Not a bad album but no song really pulled me in or made me want more.
Ice Cube
1/5
The guy from Boyz n the hood, Barbershop 2 and XXX: Return of Xander Cage made music?
All kidding aside Ice cube has done a lot of good songs throughout his career. I have problems separating the artist from the art though and the shit he has done since 2020 leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
I never really got that in to this band. The singers voice felt to nasally when I heard them in the early 90s.
Today I can appreciate the music better with more mature ears/attitude.
There are several good songs on this album and it is definitely something I would listen to again.
Lenny Kravitz
2/5
Not a huge fan of this album but I cant really put my finger on why. The instruments and the genre sounds good. The singing isn't mt favorite part but its not bad. It just feels like something is missing or that its trying to be a blues album but doesn't get all the way for me. The mix lands somewhere in the middle of blues and rock for med but it doesn't land exactly right.
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
While I like a lot of song from Pet Shop Boys almost none of the songs I like are from this album. The songs aren't bad but they mostly makes me wish I could switch to their bigger hits.
American Music Club
4/5
Good indie rock album. To bad Its only available on Youtube as a full album. Would love to add a few of the songs on my playlists.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Classic old-school rock. Not one of my every day bands but definitely something I like and listen to from time to time.
The Divine Comedy
2/5
While not bad this album didn't speak to me at all. I felt mostly neither positively or negatively about the song. They were just there, probably something I could have on in the background but if it comes to that I have other things I would rather have playing.
Happy Mondays
2/5
I have never heard of this band before and even though that isn't uncommon on this list I am surprised that I didn't even recognize the one song that had 60-120 times the amount of listens as the others.
Its another band that feels very "meh" to me. No song that I enjoy enough to save to a playlist or that I feel the need to hear again but nothing wrong or bad with the music either. I don't really get why it appears on this list. What does the author want us to experience by hearing the album? Its noting revolutionary and doesn't do anything unique in my eyes and its not early enough to have influenced a genre as some other albums on this list have.
ZZ Top
4/5
Great rock album and some really classic songs on this album.
The Yardbirds
3/5
Really old-school rock with a sound to match the time it was made. I get the feeling it probably influenced a lot of later bands with their sound.
Billie Holiday
3/5
Such a great voice. I would love to hear more of her songs in even better quality. I feel like some of the grandeur of her voice and the big bad behind her gets lost in the distortion of the older recording.
Japan
2/5
The sound of the songs and the singing feels very early 80s. I feel like I have heard the singer before but I know its not the same person.
Nothing bad to say about the album but it doesn't interest me at all.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I already have a few songs from this album on playlists I listen to often so its not something new to me. Its a good album from a great band.
Arcade Fire
2/5
Not my kind of rock music, its to slow and it feels depressing which I usually don't look for in music.
3/5
Really nice music with a lot of interesting mixing going on. I think I would have liked it more without the singing though.
Radiohead
3/5
A really good mostly slow rock album. A bit to subdued for my everyday taste but definitely something I could see myself listening to whilst reading or doing stuff around the house.
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
Not my favorite Pet Shop Boys album but as always they have some really good songs and the feeling throughout the album are great.
Syd Barrett
2/5
The whole album feels so slow its almost painful. While one or three of these songs would have been nice on an otherwise more speedy rock album I would have enjoyed them more. As 13 songs ina row I almost fell asleep before it was over.
Blur
3/5
The epitome of 90s English rock music for me. Not music I listen to everyday anymore but some songs are still burned in my memory for 25 years now.
Jeff Buckley
3/5
Everyone has heard Hallelujah. Other than that I haven't listened to Jeff Buckley at all though. He has a great voice and the songs are really soulful and beautiful. Its music that fits really well when you are in a certain headspace. In the middle of summer while I'm on vacation its not the music I would choose though.
Lana Del Rey
3/5
I haven't listened to Lana Del Rey before but the album name made me laugh out loud. The album itself is a good pop album. Very softspoken music but never dull. For me it would have been nice with some more energetic songs mixed in but it feels like that's not her vibe at all.
Van Halen
4/5
Some great songs on this album. Hair rock when it was reaching its peak.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Great voice and good guitar playing. No one song really pulled me in though.
Stereolab
2/5
The songs that has less synth in them are good. While I don't understand French I still enjoyed the singing and music. Most of the songs have synth sounds that I don't enjoy though so the album as a whole isn't for me.
Nitin Sawhney
3/5
Great album with lots of feelings in every song. While this kind of music is something where I often think you need to be in the right mood to listen to I didn't feel that with this album. Its an easy enough listen that I could see myself having this on in my everyday life and not get dragged down in sadness straight away.
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
A really good pop/country album form a new artist to me.
I was surprised that there weren't more songs with a more upbeat tempo. Its all very slow paced but it fits her singing well.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2/5
Heads will roll is already on some of my playlists but that is also the only song from this band that I know of and that I have heard before today.
After listening through the album I get why that one song has so many more listeners than the others. I can't put my finger on exactly why but the other songs didn't catch my attention at all. Its something that could play in the background and at no point would I sing along or find myself getting caught up in the beats.
Madonna
4/5
As with most Madonna albums the worst songs on here are still really good and the best songs are very good. Its different from her earlier albums but not in a bad way, it just fits the time period it was created just as her earlier work.
Belle & Sebastian
2/5
Indie pop is very hit or miss for me and this album is a miss. I can't really tell you who though. It might be the singing that sounds sad even in the more up beat songs. It might be the random flute not quite feeling like it was on pitch. Most likely is that its all the small things together that makes me not want to listen to this again.
Rush
3/5
This album starts off with the one Rush song I have heard before so that was a great start to show what I should expect. While the album has its good song (amongst 7 songs it swings a lot) and some that I would probably skip in the future it was still a great time listening through it.
Good rock music with a singer who has a unique voice.
M.I.A.
1/5
This album wasn't my kind of music at all which surprised me since I like a lot of hip hop. The flow didn't work for me at all in most songs and the random noises made it even worse.
The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
1/5
The focus on lyrics and a message over the beats and mixing doesn't work for me with this album. I get that the message is powerful and important, music as a way of conveying that message is a good idea but this almost feels more like spoken word poetry than music a lot of the time.
Suede
3/5
A band with a very unique voice and some good indie rock throughout. The album is very high and low. Some songs are great and I added them to playlists others don't catch my attention at all. That is true for a lot of albums though.
Pixies
5/5
A really good album with some great songs. Discovering artists that I have missed even if they are as big as the Pixies seems to have been is the thing I had hoped for when I started this list.
Primal Scream
2/5
To slow for my taste is what I felt during the first song and that thought was true throughout the album.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
Great album from a great singer. Her voice is so so good throughout. Even though I had just heard Respect before the other songs are just as good.
Beatles
3/5
3-4 really good songs and the rest are very meh to me.
I have heard the Beatles before (everyone in my age and older has) but its not something I listen to a lot. While I understand the contribution to music the Beatles have don't I feel like others have improved on it.
2/5
Nothing wrong with some good old fashioned country and Loretta has the voice and style to match it. Not something that appeals to me very much and not something I will listen to again though.
Jean-Michel Jarre
3/5
There is something funny to me in the fact that Oxygen, Pt. 4 has 8 times the listens as Pt. 3 or Pt. 5 and I don't know why.
The album it self is really good, slow music that fits well in the background when relaxing at home.
Mudhoney
1/5
This album didn't vibe with me at all. Not much more to say that not my style.
The Smiths
3/5
This album had a cohesive mood throughout but the songs varies a lot in how good they are. A few are great but most of them fall in the "meh" tier for my. Not bad but nothing I would seek out and listen to.
Madonna
4/5
I remember when this released and all the talk about Madonna yet again changing styles with the time and how well she does it.
The album has some really good songs and some that just pass by without making an impression. All and all its a good album with some stand out moments.
Emmylou Harris
4/5
Great voice, it is exactly what I imagine when I think old school country music. I enjoyed most of the songs and her soothing voice. Definitely something I will listen to again.
4/5
A band and album I have heard a lot before this and with songs that appear often on my playlists. Really good music from a good band with their own style. Not much more to say.
The Fall
2/5
Not my vibe. Old school rock can be very good or have high points. This mostly made me question why its even on a list like this. I have heard bands from this era that are so much better at the same kind of music.
The Vines
3/5
Very much an early 2000s alt rock feel to the whole album. Nothing wrong with it and some songs i really enjoyed. I just feel like I have heard this done better by other bands from the same era.
Pulp
3/5
Brit-rock is a genre that I'm not very familiar with since it wasn't something that I was interested in in the 90s when it was big so this album and band is completely new to me even though they seem very popular. The "hit" songs on this album are very good but most of the songs are very forgettable to me. They kind of meld together. I had a good time listening to the whole thing and will probably do so again. I might just have to skip a few songs.
Massive Attack
4/5
Smooth relaxing album with lot of different influences. Seems like something I would have on in the background while just relaxing at home.
Machito
4/5
This is what I expected more of when I started listening through this list. A genre that I am not familiar with. This one even has influences from other genres I'm not familiar with at all.
Great jazz album that is really easy to listen through. The addition of the African instruments that I don't associate with traditional jazz makes it even better. This is an album I'm going to listen to multiple times.
Brian Eno
1/5
The singers voice doesn't work for me at all. The music behind is was good but I just couldn't get in to a single song.
MGMT
4/5
Great album with a bunch of really good songs and no really bad songs. The vibes throughout are slow but sharp, While swaying to the beat there is a mix of softer notes and hard base with smooth singing.
I hadn't heard it before but its definitely something I will listen to in the future.
Steve Earle
4/5
This album reminds me a lot of CCR. Smooth singing with a good voice and a country-ish sound. I really enjoyed it!
John Martyn
2/5
The first song wasn't my vibe and the singers voice got really whiny at places but then a more up tempo songs was second and i was really digging it. Then the tempo slowed down again but the singer used a much lower voice as he continued for a few songs. Then back to the start.
This album sure was a rollercoaster of ups and downs. A few really good songs, a bunch good songs, and then a some that just dragged my rating way down by how much I dislike them.
Wild Beasts
3/5
A really nice indie rock album with some great guitar work. Not much more to say.
Pixies
2/5
I feel like I have written this before and maybe I have. While nothing wrong with this music it just doesn't work for me. I feel it goes to much towards punk for my taste in a lot of songs rather than rock.
SAULT
3/5
A smooth R&B album with good voices singing. Not a genre I usually listen to but not something I would skip if it got played on random.
Gram Parsons
1/5
Nice country sound from both the instrument choices to the singing. But the singer sometimes feels like he sings off beat and there is something missing when I compare to other country artist i enjoy but I can't put my finger on exactly what.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
A great album by a great artist. I have heard it before and today wont be the last day I listen to it.
Electric Light Orchestra
5/5
One of my mothers favorite band so I grew up listening to this. A lot of nostalgia in this album for me so I might be skewed but its a great album that I gladly listen to many times over.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
Cyndis voice is one of a kind in the best of ways. Some songs from this album are classics that I listen to often and others don't have the same highs but the floor on this album is really high.
The Who
4/5
Bab O'Riley is an absolute classic. Yet I have never heard any other song from the Who. It might have been that I am to young. Or that my parents didn't listen to then when I grew up, But now really listening to them for the first time with a whole album I love what I am hearing.
Classic rock rhythms and a great voice on the singer. While some songs weren't my favorite I have already added several on my rock playlists.
Really good album that I will listen to more times!
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Great rap album from a great rapper. I haven't listened to the entire album from start to finish before and doing it today made the songs I've heard before even better. The songs mash well and the flow from song to song was great to hear.
Arrested Development
1/5
Some song have good vibes and a nice beat. But there were far to many random sounds and strange instrument choices for me.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
British rock/punk(?) isn't a genre I know much about or listen to.
The albums has a good coherent vibe throughout. While not a genre I listen to a lot I still enjoyed listening through this.
Sade
3/5
With such a smooth voice and saxophone solos. How could you not enjoy it? A great album to relax with.
G. Love & Special Sauce
2/5
A mixed bag for me. Some songs are great and right up my alley whilst others just don't fit my vibe at all. The album as a whole has some great highs but a lot is not for me.
David Holmes
1/5
This album wasn't for me at all. It has to much unexpected sounds and random talking and/or sounds throughout. I couldn't get in to it at all.
Deep Purple
4/5
I know of a few deep purple song but since they are more of my parents generation of music i haven't listen to a whole album or more than a few of their most famous songs.
Listening through an entire album, and a lite one at that, was really fun. Its really good rock and roll and the audience added a nice touch to the feel of the songs.
Neil Young
4/5
A slow smooth rock/country sound with a nice voice to match. New music to me but I enjoyed it a lot. Certain days music like this works so well.
Talking Heads
2/5
The music is nice but the choppy singing is really bad. Nothing I will listen to again.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Such a classic voice. While not my favorite genre how can you not get pulled in by his smooth singing?
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
I really like Simon and Garfunkel although I haven't listen to them a lot. From this album I had heard one song before. While none of these songs are my favorites of them they still have the sound and feel of the Simon and Garfunkel songs I am more familiar with.
Kraftwerk
3/5
Not my kind of genre but some songs on this album are smooth enough to enjoy either way. Not to many random noises or strange sounds inserted which can be the case in more modern songs in the genre.
Butthole Surfers
1/5
Wikipedia calls them a rock band and while I get a bit of that the background noises and distortion they use is almost more punk-ish to me.
Not my kind of vibe at all though
Peter Frampton
3/5
This reminds me a lot of the Eagles or Boston in the best of ways. I really like his voice and the live aspect of the album adds a nice touch to the feeling.
That said the album as a whole is a mixed bag to me. Some songs are great whilst others just makes me want to go back to the really good songs.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
The Rolling Stones are one of the all time great bands and the impact they have had throughout the years on later bands cannot be understated.
That being said other than the most famous songs I really never got in to them before.
Now having listened through an entire album I appreciate them a bit more. Its easy to listen to and has some great guitar work.
I still have other rock bands that I would rather listen to if I had a choice but its better than I expected.
The National
4/5
Really nice indie rock album from an artist that is new to me. Both the slower and more speedy songs add a lot to the albums over all feel. It feels cohesive and the songs flow well in to each other.
Definitely something I will listen to again.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
I can't put my finger on exactly why but this didn't work for me at all. The singing and the music both feel off somehow. Like I have heard this before but cleaner and more my style.
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Great album from a great artist. Her voice is instantly recognizable and she made such good songs. Almost all songs on this album are songs I already have on playlists and enjoy when the get played.
Rod Stewart
3/5
A good artist with a unique voice. This album has one or two great songs but the rest are very bland to me. Another of his albums might have gotten a higher score.
Beth Orton
4/5
Beautiful voice and smooth songs with a lot of feeling to them. Really good music to relax with at home.
John Prine
3/5
This is a nice old school country album. It didn't stand out to me at all so I checked the Wikipedia to se if I was missing something. The main focus there was on the writing and the influence on later artists. As a non native speaker that might explain why I didn't find that little extra that makes this album special.
That being said his voice is clean and the country feeling of the album is still great.
The Band
3/5
Not bad but no song sticks out as really good either. I feel like I have heard this kind of music a lot before and considering when this was made I probably have from all the albums and artists influenced by The Band.
System Of A Down
5/5
I grew up listening to SOAD and still do to this day. Their blend of genres withing songs. Serjs voice. The messages in the songs still being relevant today. There is so much I could say but nothing negative in my mind. Some of it might be nostalgia but I could listen to this every day and never get tired.
Mj Cole
2/5
Some nice smooth beats in a few songs but overall I didn't get pulled in to the album very much. Nothing stood out and I didn't get the feeling of wanting to relisten to anything.
Supertramp
4/5
I grew up listening to Supertramp through my mother so this feels nostalgic.
Its good music with an interesting use of instruments and the album includes one of my favorite songs Dreamer.
As a whole it kind of lacks more great songs to me and most of them are fine to good but not much more.
Barry Adamson
2/5
This felt more like an OST than a regular album with instrumental songs and slow songs with a voice just talking. After listening I went back here and looked and according to Wikipedia that is what the artist had in mind when he made it.
Some really nice songs with great feeling to them but not something to listen to every day. Like most OST albums to me.
The Auteurs
2/5
No stand out songs for my but solid soft rock that has a sound very of its time. It sounds so much like other bands from the same timeframe that I could have heard this before but not remembered.
The Mars Volta
3/5
I somehow missed this bad when this album came out even though it is in a genre that I listened to a lot back then. Hearing it for the first time now they have a nice sound and some good songs. Maybe its because It was 20+ years ago I listened a lot to the genre and the other bands have more nostalgia to me but nothing really makes me want to go back and listen again.
Neil Young
3/5
A smooth voice and good guitar playing can get you a long way when it comes to music for me. This album is a good "put on in the background while reading in autumn" album. While that sounds extremely specific (and it is) its also a genre that gets a lot of playtime for me about 3 months of the year dna I can see myself listening to this again in that context.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
The Rolling Stones have quite a few hits (none on this album though) that I enjoy but since Its from a generation before me (and almost before my parents) I don't have any nostalgia for it. While I can understand what they did historically for music as a whole and all the artists they inspired its not something I enjoy listening to. While not bad I just like other artists in the genre better, perhaps because they learned from this band when they got started.
Beatles
Pere Ubu
1/5
The experimental parts of this albums are just to much for me. Some of the great parts get lost in the mix of good. Some guitar solos save a few songs but over all not a great experience for me.
John Coltrane
4/5
A jazz album was a pleasant surprise today. Its a genre I don't listen to often but when I do I always say to myself that I need to do it more.
This album in particular was good with a heavy focus on saxophone, logical considering its a Coltrane album, with some really good drums in the back and some piano shining through once in a while.
In the ten minute song the saxophone went maybe a little to wild though with some notes I don't think the saxophone was even build for.
I enjoyed the experience as a whole and it made me want more jazz in my life.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
My dad listened to a lot of Creedence when I grew up so I did as well. A lot of it is very nostalgic to me and those songs still hit hard. The others not so much. Its still good music though so while I wont skip songs i might just play a best of album instead of this next time.
The Stone Roses
2/5
I struggle with what to write about this album. It doesn't stand out in any way to me. It isn't bad but not something I would choose to listen to either. The instruments sound good and the singing is nice but I can't remember the rhythms or lyrics after just listening through the album.
Extremely middle of the road in every way which isn't a great thing when it comes to music.
Femi Kuti
4/5
Good vibes and great saxophone playing. Wile it sometimes got a bit to much for me with the marimba (?) solos I really enjoyed the album as a whole.
Prince
4/5
A solid album with good singing and catchy song. Not much else to say, Prince was a great artist and that shows. Even on the weaker songs on this album the floor is high.
Paul Simon
4/5
Before going through these albums I had heard about but never really listened to Simon and/or Garfunkwl. This is now my second Paul Simon album and I have also listened through a Simon and Garfunkel album.
This album isn't as good as Graceland but better than Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme, the Simon and Garfunkel album I have gotten so far.
While I don't love all the songs the album as a whole is great to listen through and many of them I want to go back and listen to again.
Donovan
2/5
To slow for me and the mix feels very old (because it is).
Not bad in any way but not something I would choose to listen to again.
The Byrds
2/5
I have only heard the title track before and its the best song of the album to me. That song itself is very mid to me and the album as a whole isn't really my style. It didn't get me interested in any way.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
A huge buch of feelings hitting you with every song. Nick cave is a master of his kind of music. If you like that kind of music this must be heaven. I am that kind of person, sometimes. When the mood hits I can play this and just relax in the sofa. Other times, like today, its ok. I'm inclined to listen to it again or any more of his songs. But that feels okay beacusr I know where it is when I want it and that day will come again. I'm sure of it.
Marvin Gaye
2/5
A classic voice that I have heard many times. The music is good but not an everyday listen to me. Mostly because of the genre. Its not often I want to listen to this kind of music in my day to day life.
N.W.A.
4/5
Absolute classic album full of really good songs. I have heard it many times before and I'm happy to listen to it again today.
Amy Winehouse
4/5
A great artist with a great voice. Not my favorite album from her but I still enjoy most of the songs enough to listen through it more than once.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
While I know of her I have never really listened to Joni before this. Great voice and smooth vibes from most of the songs. It got a bit to much like talking instead of singing in some songs to me.
Some songs I will definitely come back to in the future whilst others I will probably skip.
Green Day
5/5
Great band and album. I remember this from my youth and even disregarding the nostalgia I still love a lot of the songs and listen to them from time to time.
Screaming Trees
3/5
I had never heard of this band before but their songs are pretty good. Nice voice on the singer and a sound that I really like. I read that people put them in the grunge genre often but this is more metal than that to me.
The album didn't really have a stand out song to me but its definitely an album I would play in the background while playing a game.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Janis voice is epic and timeless. To me that is almost the only thing about the album that I really enjoyed though. While nothing inherently wrong with the songs I just couldn't get in to them. The sound mixing, the instruments, the solos. Nothing stood out other than her voice, but sometimes that might be enough for some songs to be listened to a few more times.
The Smiths
3/5
Sound very much as I expected the smiths to sound after having heard Morrissey. Its the kind of music where I really enjoy 1-3 songs of an album and listen to them a lot but skip the rest. This album is no different. Not bad but nothing I will listen through from start to finish again.
2/5
A lot of slow and almost instrumental songs from a band I had only heard one song from before. Not at all what I expected.
Its good old-school rock with a lot of experimental parts. Not something I would listen to every day but not inherently bad music that I would turn off either.
Peter Gabriel
2/5
The electronic sounds going on throughout the album don't really work for me. If not for that It feels almost like a Duran Duran album or something like that. Not much from this album that left an impression enough that I will remember or think about after today.
The Black Keys
3/5
Catchy music and some good singing mixed with singing through a microphone that made me want to change songs. Thankfully most songs don't use that filter on the singing making it overall a really good smooth album that I really enjoyed listening through.
Meat Loaf
5/5
I love Meat Loaf and I love this album. I have listened through it many times before on LP and CD and doing it again today made me just as happy as before. Truly a great artist singing and an excellent composer in Jim Steinman. I think I might repeat this album a few more times.
The Pharcyde
3/5
Real old-school hip-hop but with a bit more fun lyrics and a more up-beat beat than I'm used to from this time period.
It was a fun listen and I enjoyed most of the songs. Its not the kind of music I would listen to daily though.
Megadeth
4/5
Trash isn't one of my favorite metal genres but I will acknowledge the impact Megadeath have had on many bads in other genres that I listen to today.
While there isn't anything bad outright to say about the album and the guitar and drum parts are really good even great in many songs its just not pulling me in and making me want to go back.
Nick Drake
3/5
Nick Drake is a kind of music that fits extremely well when in a certain mood. Other times i just want to listen to something else and today was such a day so I find it hard to score it high.
Eels
2/5
some good songs and some that were mostly talking over the guitar. I don't really get the appeal since it feels like I have head these kinds of songs many times before, but better.
John Grant
2/5
A slow album and the singer has a nice voice. Its not something that makes me want to listen again though. It feels like an album with songs that could play on the radio but that I wont chose myself.
Jethro Tull
2/5
I enjoyed a few of the songs on this album but there was no real cohesion between all of them. While I often enjoy old-school rock this is a big meh for me. It feels like they were experimenting and maybe another album of theirs would suit me more.
R.E.M.
4/5
While I have heard a lot of R.E.M songs most from this album were new to me which also shows in the amount of plays compared to their bigger hits.
That said I enjoyed the album as a whole. It feels less pop-ish than what I had heard before. I will probably add a few songs to my playlists after listening it over once or twice more today.
Really fun hearing new songs from a band and enjoying them this much even though it has a different sound.
Shack
2/5
Never heard of this band before and I probably will never think of them again after today. The album isn't really bad but it is a genre that doesn't appeal to me much and the songs feel really bland.
Television
2/5
Nothing about this album stands out or makes me want to listen again. It feels like it might be music that later bands are influenced by since it sounds more modern than 1977. I would rather listen to those bands in that case.
Beastie Boys
3/5
The Beastie Boys are very nostalgic for me which might give this a higher rating than it would otherwise. While some songs hit hard others I would rather skip and I think that has more to do with nostalgia than the genre or the songs themselves.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
An interesting album more than a great one to me. It has some really good guitar playing but I feel like it never goes anywhere far enough.
It just continues on with the same playing and rhythms throughout the song so it doesn't lead anywhere. It feels almost like a more modern song without a drop. Something is missing for the songs to make me want to listen again.
That said I'm happy Its on this list and that I got to play through it since this is exactly what I was hoping for when I started this list.
The Who
2/5
A nice old-school rock album. You can clearly hear where it has influenced later bands in the genre. Its not something I would listen to daily though, I'm happy just listening to the few songs that still hold up today.
The Temptations
4/5
Really cool soul music that is completely new to me. smooth songs and good singing. Might have to listen to a few of the songs again today now that I got in to the groove.
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Not my vibe at all. The guitar sounds made me want to turn it of straight away and the singing/talking isn't appealing to me at all.
Dizzee Rascal
1/5
I have heard a few songs from Drizziee and in the grime genre before and its not anything I enjoy at all. It has interesting parts and learning about the origins and evolution of the genre can be interesting but I would rather read up on it than listen to this again.
The Replacements
3/5
Pretty good punk-ish rock album that really feels like its from the 80s but not in a good way.
The songs vary in how good they are quite a lot with some that I wont be listening to the good songs are really good and that I've added to playlists straight away.
CHIC
2/5
I have only heard le freak from this band before and now I kind of get why. The whole album is in the same kind of vibe as that song but not as catchy. When I realized that I listened to le freak again and it is kind of a weird song. Its still catchy but the other songs will soon be forgotten by me.
Van Morrison
3/5
I have listened a bit to Van Morrison since my dad listened to him when I grew up. Interesting lyrics and a good voice. To me its good music to have on in the background while doing other things. Not something I will listen to actively.
The Fall
1/5
I'm learning more and more throughout this list that English post-punk or maybe just post-punk isn't my thing at all. I started to list what I don't like about the album but instead of that I will just say that its not for me one bit.
King Crimson
5/5
This wasn't what I was expecting at all with a name like that and the cover picture. The different genres mixing and the smooth singing is just great.
I am having trouble what to call this or how to explain it to other people and I'm loving it, every part of it. The jazz sections blew me away and the album as a whole makes me want to go back straight away and I thing I just might.
Skunk Anansie
3/5
Good voice and powerful songs. Another day I may have been much more in to this but today it feels good but not great. Some songs I wouldn't mind listening to again but its probably nothing I would seek out.
New Order
4/5
Really good and catchy music. The electronic beat and the singers voice is the highlights to me. Definitely something I will add to playlists and come back to.
Deee-Lite
3/5
Very funky an pleasant album. Very easy to listen to and catchy
The singers voice is great and the saxophone parts might be even better. Its not one of my favorite genres but when some of the songs come up in the future I will definitely turn up the volume for a song or two.
David Ackles
3/5
A very sad album but sometimes that is a great thing. Moving lyrics and good singing but its not very often I find myself wanting listen to this kind of music so I cant in good concience give it a higher rating.
Morrissey
3/5
Classic voice and some really solid songs on this album.
Nothing I have listened to a lot before but I really enjoyed it.
Leftfield
2/5
I listen to electronic music like this very rarely and when I do its to the songs that really catch my attention straight away. None of the songs on this album did that. I really get that 1995 feeling from the music and it feels old and that something is missing. I get the feeling that they probably influenced a lot of later artist with how familiar a lot of it sounds.
Buzzcocks
2/5
Sounds very much as an English punk band from the era. The singing, the distinct sound from the guitars, and the lyrics. I get why this and bands like this were big and great during their time from a historical point of view. Myself I don't like it very much usually and this album shows me why yet again. Its just not my vibe, had to specify more than that since its entirely a preference, nothing bad inherently in the album itself.
Fred Neil
3/5
I really enjoy his voice and there is a lot of soul in his singing. To me the songs are varied though,. some really good and others I would rather skip past. A lot of albums have a time and place when they are best listened to and I know I will return to some of these songs when the mood sets in.
Rod Stewart
4/5
Certainly not my favorite album or songs from Rod Stewart but for a great artist like this even the low points are good. His voice and the smooth music is just comforting.
Frank Black
3/5
Really speedy album with a familiar voice. Not bad but nothing I would go out looking for or choose to play daily either.
Kings of Leon
5/5
A really good album that is completely new to me. The singers voice and the space they leave between the singing in a lot of the songs is great. It feels very thoughtfully done. Definitely a band I want to listen to more in the future.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
The singing and guitar drew me straight in to these songs. I was enjoying it a lot. And then the drums kicked in and I wanted to stop listening straight away. The songs which doesn't have that really distorted heavy drum part are great.
This album is doing so many great things but I just can't stand it as a whole. I will keep some songs with me for the future but as a whole I can't give it a higher score.
Norah Jones
5/5
Beautiful voice and soothing music. I just want to lay back in a recliner, close my eye and enjoy this album over and over. While this is classified as pop, the jazz vibes it gives off is the best part for me.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
The pop and old school jazz mix works really well but from time to time the wailing gets a bit to much for me which sucks since the good parts of this album are very very good.
CHVRCHES
3/5
Good and easy to listen to po-synth music that feels like I could have hear on the radio 10 years a go. I really enjoyed listening to it but it also feels like music I have heard before.
Nine Inch Nails
2/5
I somehow missed this band growing up. Later on I have listened to a few songs but none from this album.
Its very interesting music with layering and lyrics that certainly fit the bands style through and through.
Most of the songs have to much noise for me to really get in to them though, what ever it is they are doing with the guitars in those parts of the songs it would make me click next as soon as could If I heard it in another context.
Lou Reed
3/5
An artist my dad listens to so I have heard some songs that way.
He has a nice voice but the music isn't really my taste. That being said some individual songs on this album are great and I already have them on playlists before this.
Aerosmith
4/5
An album from a band I really enjoy is always nice to see in this list. Nothing new to me but some really classic hits that I really love on here.
Cream
3/5
A totally new band to me. Their sound is very of its time. The style of distortion on the guitar and the singing, or really the silent spaces in between, and the strange psychedelic lyrics makes me think of other band from the 60s and 70s.
While the album as a whole was good and it was a fun time listening through it , no song really stood out to me enough to be memorable or that I want to come back to it again.
Cheap Trick
4/5
Always fun getting a live album on this list. Cheap trick is has a few songs I really enjoy but this live version is great. Although I don't recognize the songs the energy from the crowd makes me feel like I could sing along.
Devendra Banhart
2/5
I really like the mood this album sets at the first song and sticks to throughout the entire album. Its not my favorite kind of music by a long shot though. It was a fun one of listen to but not something I will come back to in the future.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Good smooth rock album with clean vocals and instruments. While short I really like it. Not much else to add when its a old school rock album. A genre I listen to and have listened to a lot.
Bob Dylan
2/5
I'm wasn't the biggest fan of Dylan before today and this album didn't change that. Its not a bad album in it self but its music and hos voice doesn't appeal to me.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
1/5
Distorted guitars is often a thing I like since it can be used very well. This is an example of when it isn't. Its to much and even covers the singing. Nothing I want to listen to again.
Giant Sand
2/5
An ok album in its own right with some nice guitar and singing. The songs feel meaningful and heavy. They definitely get the vibe they want across with these songs. That vibe isn't something I want to listen to often though. Maybe I will find this again one day when I'm more in the mood. Or maybe I will forget about Giant Sand today, never to return. I don't feel sad about any of those outcomes.
Sheryl Crow
4/5
Easy to listen to and fun, up-beat music that kind of blended in to the background. It's something I would expect to hear a lot on the radio and I mean that in the best way.
Janet Jackson
2/5
A good pop album from a really good singer. I really dislike all the Interlude tracks however. Doing an album a day is for me a chance to listen to the albums from start to finish, how most were intended to be listened to. But to me the interlude takes away more than it adds from the experience.
Death In Vegas
3/5
I enjoyed this album more than I initially thought I would when it started out. The singing parts were the parts I didn't enjoy very much while the music itself was very easy to listen to and great to listen to in the background while doing other things.
Richard Hawley
4/5
A really pleasant album from an artist that is new to me. His voice and mellow singing fits very well with the jazz and country feeling a lot of the songs have. I think I'm gonna listen through it once more today!
Joni Mitchell
5/5
I have heard of Joni Mitchell before but I haven't listened to her actively or sought her music out.
A really pleasant voice to listen to and the album is a very easy listen. An artist and songs that I will definitely listen to again in the future.
Otis Redding
3/5
Solid soul album with a great singer. Its not often I feel in the mood for straight up soul music but next time I know what to search for!
Morrissey
3/5
I like Morrisey. He has a nice voice and some really good songs. None of my favorites are on this album and while as a whole its a good album its kind of easy to forget right after listening to it. Only one song really got stuck in my head and then I was off to another album instead of listening again.
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
A totally new band to me but one that I will come back to for at least a few songs. While the album definitely shows its age through the mixing and quality its rhythms and the guitars are really good and makes up for the other parts.
Kings of Leon
3/5
Fun rock album from a band where I have heard a few songs on the radio before. While nothing is bad about it I don't really see its place on this list.
Nothing exceptional or groundbreaking going on or stand out that I can tell. Really fun listen through though and the country vibes to are great.
The Go-Betweens
3/5
A solid indie-rock album with everything I expect from the genre. From the soft singing to the guitar picking. Another album that isn't bad but doesn't do much for me either.
Violent Femmes
1/5
This album wasn't my vibe at all. The singing, the guitar, the talking. Nothing really worked for me.
