Nahhh not my thing.
Some nice tracks, but not for me 3/5
I was really excited for this, but I don’t think it aged as well as I thought it would. The beats are good but somewhere in the middle it just kind of gets annoying. stress is just fucking awful. The first song really makes me want to buy a Cadillac though.

From the bombastic opening of "Genesis" to the sheer, heart-pounding tension of "Stress", the production is a masterclass in using samples and analog synths to create a sound that is both raw and meticulously composed. While there are a few moments where the momentum shift, specifically the more vocal-heavy tracks like "The Party", the overall journey is an absolute banger that has aged remarkably well...

A couple bangers, reminded me of Daft Punk
It was okay. One song was a mild hit some years ago. Wouldn’t listen as a steady diet.
Not really into electronic dance music. But, it was okay.
Blije electronische zuurstokmuziek, met een hoes die er eigenlijk helemaal niet bij past. Laatst hadden we ook al van die pacmanmuziek en deze past ook in dat rijtje. Hier kun je jezelf heel lang heel blij op laten gaan, bijvoorbeeld omdat we (nummer 333) op één derde van de 1001-lijst zitten!
Fijne elektronische plaat. De rauwe nummers hebben wat weg van het rauwere werk van The Chemical Brothers. Deze heren lijken graag nog een tikje of een kraakje toe te voegen, bij voorkeur naast een mini-stilte. Daarmee halen ze het wat uit balans. Wat hen toch vijf sterren minder oplevert, dan de broers. Komen ze nog steeds uit op een respectabele 5 sterren. Meer van dit genre graag!
Funky baslijntjes, hiephoi! Maar dan in een moddervette french electro house variant. Af en toe komen er nog wat gameboy geluidjes voorbij. Huismerk Daft Punk dekt volledig de lading. Dit is iets wat je live wil zien in een volle dampende stampende festivaltent. Zoals Pendulum op Dour. Of zoals Daft Punk vrij aardig heeft weten te pakken op hun Alive 2007 albums. En dan maakt het niet eens uit dat ze alleen maar op play hebben gedrukt.
I swear I’ve heard the song Genesis before but I cannot recall from where. Overall it was a decent album. Electronic music is definitely a genre that I haven’t explored much that I would be willing to do so.

If static was an instrument
Another album from my younger days that was an absolute staple. Havent had it on in years but even after the first note of Genesis it took me back to my 96 reg Corsa. Genesis is the track I’d have as my walkout theme if I was a boxer or a darts player, or if I was putting together a compilation of goals for Football Focus. Anyway, I loved this then and I love it now. Its cool as fuck without it ever being a dickhead. It makes me wish I could pull off a leather jacket and a fancy haircut and take up smoking. Manages to capture a lot of what was mint about mid 00s music without any of that landfill rubbish that clogged things up. Electro, dance, indie, some funky bass riffs. It’s big and bold without being crass. Here’s a big hill I’m prepared to die on: this is better than anything their compatriots Daft Punk ever did. 10/10
Along with daft punk and MSTRKTFT, Justice are the sort of rock driven dance music I can get on board with. Very nostalgic, D.A.N.C.E was an indie club staple in the uni days. While it isn't that varied, I'm not sure you'd expect much variation from an album like this. While I do have this album on my phone, not sure if I've listened to it in the last 5 years, so was great to hear again.
Really surprised by this - I can tolerate Daft Punk, and so roughly new what to expect. Valentine, Phantom Pt. II, Dance, and Genesis were my favourites. Sort of felt amped up but also chilled out afterwards. I didn't actually realise that so much of this album is used on soundtracks - felt sort of nostalgic and exciting. Almost no tracks outstayed their welcome either - and one or two ended too soon for me, which is rare. I'm struggling to think of a reason not to give a 5, so 5 it is.
I've listened to Justice before so it was nice to revist this album. I personally prefer their second album "Audio, Video, Disco" but this is a hell of debut album. DANCE is a bit overplayed for my liking but there are many other great songs here. Theres a great tempo to the album and it never got boring. Highlights: Genesis Phantom Waters of Nazareth One Minute to Midnight
I've listened to this album in the past, had a housemate in Birmingham who loved this type of music. Had his own electro emo type band too, who were awful. Lots of big hair, eyeliner and tight pants... Aside from this slight nostalgia, this really isn't for me, not a big electronic music fan. DANCE is ok and was played a lot back then. Genesis and phantom part 2 are ok too The odd song I can tolerate, a whole album is way too much. It's hard not to compare to daft punk, but I think the main difference is that daft punk is more rooted it rock where as this is more rooted in house or something. Daft punk is a different league imo The odd song yes, a whole album no 2.5
Amazing
Love that this album is here. I think it's sort of fallen out of favor the longer it's been since release, but it's a phenomenal album rivaling Daft Punk.

Man, I remember this album. It kind of blew me away in 2007. I was never really into this scene, but this album was so heavy and catchy! That bass tone! Their stage presence made a big splash too. Not as amazing as it was before, but still, for me I gotta give it a 3.5 - 4.

Highlights: D.A.N.C.E The Party DVNO I think I'm learning that I don't really enjoy the heavy distortion sound. I find it jarring and distracting. I'm going to start by saying that this isn't music I normally listen to and I have very mixed feeling about this album. On a whole, I didn't really enjoy it, I found it to be over produced with the heavy distortion and distracting from the parts i did enjoy. With that said, I liked all the songs that featured lyrics and thought the underlying base lines to be really good throughout the album. I dont see myself coming back to this one but I probably would dance if one of these songs came on while I was out.
This is one of those albums I probably would have loved as a 21 year old bottom up the clubs. As a 50 year driving to work, it doesn’t hit the same. Not bad, just not my style anymore.
Somewhat accessible, but too much dance club noise
This is my 87th day doing this project, and the 9th Electronica album I’ve been assigned. More than 1 in 10 rate. Coming in to this listen, Electronica is my second worst rated genre, at 1.88 average. After this rating is added, that’ll drop to 1.78. I just hope I don’t get subjected to any/many more. Sorry, this just isn’t my thing. And this specific Electronica offering is probably my least favorite of the Electronica albums I’ve had to endure. 1/5
Groovy, baby!
First few songs were nice background music as I cleaned up the kitchen on a Saturday morning. Halfway through the album, it was getting more annoying than entertaining. Overall, like listening to Daft Punk.
Great electronic album. Really cool parts, and has a break-out mainstream electronic hit with D.A.N.C.E.

The French sure knows their electronic music. I recognized the opening track from before. There's rock influences that are prominent on a lot of the tracks. Definitely worth a listen.
Actually enjoyed it as a workout album. Fun beats and DANCE is an undeniable jam for whatever reason.

A couple of bangers hidden amongst some others that maybe pushed a little too far towards sounding electronic and not enough towards sounding like music. You will recognize D.A.N.C.E from one movie soundtrack or another and it is definitely the standout track of the album. As a rock/alt/metal listener, this was still enjoyable overall, though a few tracks had me hitting skip to avoid flashbacks of the dial-up internet days.

Not for me
Starts out pretty strong, but fades after D.A.N.C.E just when I start expecting my ass to get blown out. At their best sounds like a cross between Daft Punk and Fuck Buttons. While this may be a (the?) seminal French Dance Rock album of the mid aughts, it was a 3 for me.
It comes out of the gate really strong with this hard rock meets dance punch in the face. But it starts to blend together after a while. Overall good vibes, happy to have it on, and we’ll be hearing that one great song forever, but not an album I’d frequently reach for.

Justice's Cross disappoints with its dull and repetitive nature, heavily reminiscent of Daft Punk. While some hail it as a resurgence of dance music and a revival of the golden age of EDM, I find it lacking in originality. i did really like Phantom, and Phantom Pt. II because it let my brain rest after the first few songs in the album. that was really nice. my favourite song from this album overall is Phantom Pt. II. Usually not my genre but this is a good album. I remember the hit singles which I might have heard a bit too often back then and was surprised that for me there wasn't a song on it where I felt the need to skip.

Yeah it’s alright
Wasn’t sure what to expect, but this album was pretty good. It’s like someone said, “we need more music like Daft Punk” and another group from Paris, France called Justice stood up and answered the call.

Finishes super strong. The last three tracks, (Stress, Waters of Nazareth and One Minute to Midnight) are certified bangers. Definitely influenced by Daft Punk but a tad more abrasive. Most of it works.
Freakin great music. Not typically my style but I had this on while I was packing up for a move and I really enjoyed it! Super fun to listen too.
Played this album to death when I was at Uni, love it still and listening to it today just takes me back to those clubbing days, up there with the best of electro house. Added back to my permanent rotation.

A really fun and well produced album. Upbeat, funky as all hell, and touches on those electronica notes that I loved so much around the turn of the millenium. Solid, fun album.
2007. Not the worst electronic album, there were some melodies here and there and not every moment was unbearable.
I love lots of electronic artists and genres, but I really can't get along with Justice. The sound is big, bold, clean and energetic, but ultimately feels brash and soulless to me. This style of electro-house feels like it takes influence from the 1990s "big beat" sound, but it doesn't have the same sense of humour, use of break beats, or even danceability. I do love Mr Oizo's earlier albums, which come from the same wheelhouse, but have lots more interesting going on. 2.5*, not bad but entirely disposable.
- It's well worth it to go see the music videos for DANCE and DVNO. Pretty good house album. I didn't fall in love with all of the tracks like I do with Daft Punk records, but there are still some classic house hits on this one. Some of the electronic sounds (especially on tracks like Genesis) haven't aged incredibly well and have that deadmau5 vibe, which seems to be exclusive to electronic albums released between 2005 and 2010. Fave tracks: D.A.N.C.E., Phantom, Stress
There are some absolute bangers on this one, can't deny that. There are also a couple tracks that sounds pretty dated now, so a bit of a mix bag here. Overall though I enjoyed the listen, brings up some nostalgic feelings for sure. Fav tracks: Genesis, D.A.N.C.E, Phantom Pt. II

This was a good album. I will admit I am a sucker for sample heavy, glitchy electronic music. The dark undertones of the album were a nice touch.
I remember this band seemingly coming out of nowhere with their singles and the amount of hype was palpable. People were comparing them to Daft Punk and when the album dropped, no one could contest that this seemed like the natural evolution of Daft Punk's music. With more metal influences, this album's ethos was much darker and was an instant success. Overall there are just a few tracks that I wouldnt consider perfect but I would give this 4.5 stars if I could. An amazing record

Seeing this was a electronic/dance album had me bummed out. Maybe my low expectations did this album a favor though because it far exceeded them. I don't think I could ask much more from this genre. The French have really got a lock on this genre seemingly, with Daft Punk also competing for the crown. Unfortunately, the album is maybe a touch too long, or maybe this type of music just drains my attention span a little more than others. This album was so good. I knew from the first song Genesis it was going to be a great album. It made something as mundane as a morning stroll with my daughter an epic adventure. The timing was perfection as I was pushing the kid in the stroller up the hill and stress came on it felt like Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill (thank you hades the game for that reminder). Can’t rate highly enough

3.5 rounded up. Not my easiest listen but on part because I milked every ounce of joy from if when it came out and in the years after, and I can't penalise it for that.
Well that was interesting... I can appreciate it's influence and can see how some others may like it but it's not my favorite.
As a fan of EDM, I'm surprised to say that I didn't really care for this album. It started off as a generic three, but as it moved along, track after track a growing sense of “I cannot wait for this to end” welled up inside of me. I found the vocal tracks particularly distracting because it sounded similar to Ke$ha's early vocal style, but without her energy, sarcastic delivery, and clever lyrics. Since † precludes her debut by three years, all I can assume is that perhaps Justice was a source of inspiration to her Animal/Cannibal duo. There's some decent tunes in this album, but I don't dare trudge through the full thing again to earmark them.
EDM is still not my jam, but I thought this was more enjoyable than Daft Punk's "Homework" album.
I wish I listened to house music in the 90s when it was becoming popular so I could have had more time enjoying it. I supposed young, ignorant, musical tastes are designed to be refined. I really enjoyed this record, however, there are other house subgenres that I prefer and am more likely to return to.

This is how to do electronic music. It's not quite Discovery but it's close to that good. Lovely surprise. I had never heard of this band before. The Party is the low point but even that track could have been good if the vocalist had any flow or at all. My kids liked it too.

I will never understand how these projects, whose entire goal is to just be bombastic production from start to finish are regarded with such critical acclaim from music snobs and nerds. I’ve been doing this project for a couple weeks and I have run into at least five albums that appear broadly to be all the same. All these projects lack any form of lyric nuance, narrative story telling, emphasize on melodic or harmonic production, live instrumentation or really human personality. They are in their truest forms funky soundboards in album form. That’s fine if you like it by why is this type of music deemed so high among the musically snobbish types.

Not a fan of the genre, but as far as dance, house music, electronica or whatever this is classified as, it's a good listen and I don't have too much to complain about. I appreciate the musicianship and it's production and have to admit I was nodding my head and tapping my toes through a lot of it. Funky and fun.

Well it's a dance album, it's like all dance albums, not made for listening to, but at least it tries a little more than a series of 4 bar repeats.
I like this album a lot, D.A.N.C.E. is my favorite song on the album, but all if the songs do sound similar. This would be a good workout album to listen to.
I never quite understood the hype, but after around the 3rd listen everything just made sense. It seems more freeflowing than most edm and more rock in spirit. Feels like great exercise music. My overall favorite moment is the classical elements introduced in the outro of Stress.
Gives Terraria. Techno mix with pop refferences, linked songs, chill overall.

Skrillex was really overplayed when I was in high school, so I'm pretty burnt out from this heavy electronic dance music. That said, this is good. Like very good music. The ending of Let There Be Light is phenomenal. Some of the songs on the back half of the album are causing me pain. Stress and DVNO, specifically.
Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé are geniuses and masters of audio mixing. Plain and simple. This is one of the best electronic albums I've ever listened to. I've listened to everything Daft Punk has released and I've liked and respected their work but I've never /loved/ any of their albums. They've always come across as too basic and repetitive for my tastes. Then you've got a band like LCD Soundsystem where it seems like James Murphy listened to Daft Punk a little too much and thought "I could do this too", and became the derivative musical version of Ernest Cline. But, Justice... Wow. They really know how to sequence a song, keep it dynamic, and give it interesting melodies and harmonies, not to mention their amazing skill at texturing and sampling.
I like the electric music style the album has going. In particular I liked D.A.N.C.E.

With good headphones, this feels like a brain massage at times. Both physically and psychologically. Hard to explain. I like it.

First listen for me outside of the one big hit on this. It's like a crunchy daft punk and probably more to my taste because if that. Goes in some unexpected directions, but all in very entertaining. It got liked in spot, so I'll be coming back.

I wanted to say that this record is dollar-store Daft Punk, but that is offensive to both Daft Punk (obvi) and to dollar-stores. They’d never sell this shit. Sounds like ‘my first synthesizer’ by playskool. This record is a reminder that 1001 albums is actually a fair shit-ton of music and by sheer odds there’s got to be some seriously, craptastically bad music. This is that. 0.5/5

Don’t know much about electronic music history but this album is great. I can only compare it to Daft Punk as another electronic duo but there’s some real hits in here. Dance is a good homage to Michael Jackson and overall all of these songs are easy to groove or dance to.

a pretty fun, danceable album. i knew d.a.n.c.e. beforehand, but nothing else on the album, so i was hoping it would be along the same lines - and it was. was fun, not particularly mindblowing for me, but a fun time overall.
Liked it a lot except for the rlly dramatic lyrics on a couple songs. Otherwise was a really interesting album, thought the fusion of house and rock was cool. happy monday, very nice sunny day today. I'm almost 50 years old. I don't like to be annoyed when listening to music - I like to enjoy it. Therefore, this isn't an album for me, with all the beeps, boops, buzzing, music cutting in and out, and drilling(!?) This is music that should only be played in a TV show/movie while a group of edgy computer hackers are taking out some evil corporation. However, I did enjoy D.A.N.C.E a bit, but it was an anomaly. Also, dumb album cover and doesn't match the music contained within.
Whilst a little long, and god knows that "The Party" should've been cut from this album, this is a massive sounding album full of catchy tracks. Electronica isn't my genre, but I enjoyed this a lot overall. Honestly, just the quality of the production and how big these songs sound is enough to make it a good time.

Repetitive, like most edm, but catchy and riffy rather than dull and boring. Little to give it away as French, perhaps because their influences are so firmly rooted in the US and UK music scenes. Not my thing, really, but better than the average dance album.

This album is a brilliant musical adventure. I didn't love every single track but every track surprised me and kept me engaged. I was looking forward to hearing what was next. There's nothing predictable about this album. It's something I would definitely listen to again and maybe the tracks I didn't like as much would warm up on me. Very pleased with this pick.
Some parts were too weird for me but there were more than enough moments that were OUTSTANDING that I think I liked it?

D.A.N.C.E. rocks The Party: Why did a 14 year old girl sing this lol. It sounds like what I imagine a Jojo Siwa song sounds like. Only track I haven't liked so far. Honestly, except for D.A.N.C.E., I didn't really like any of the tracks with vocals. Overall, I think this was a good album. I was distracted again, but I think I got a pretty good feel for it. I would definitely listen again.

the ESTABLISHMENT hated JESUS for his ideas, and put him on the CROSS. the ESTABLISHMENT hated ME for thinking this album is lame, and they will put me on the CROSS. History repeats itself, and so does this album because every track feels the same.
Loved the first three tracks, but unfortunately after those it meandered into several generic electro dance tracks that favored style over substance. Thankfully the final few songs were pretty good.
Genisis: Funky song, unlike anything I've listened to before, quite interesting! It does have a very good tune. I like this! Let There Be Light: Interesting, not sure I like the constant electrical sound bit or its solo but it isn't bad for sure. Bit busy. Did like the ending though! D.A.N.C.E: Very interesting! Pretty catchy somehow, fancy! Do the dancee! Newjack: Uhm what, this one's a bit weird. No real rythym to be found here. Last part of the song has somewhat of a rythym but still confusing. Phantom: Had to turn the volume down for this one. It's LOUDD. Phantom II: Probably my most liked song from this album? It's a great tune The Party: Not entirely my vibe this one... DNVO: This is good stuff, kind of trance like. Stress: My stress levels literally went up with this one. Waters of Nazareth: Interesting name this, funky tune tho. One Minute to Midnight: Honestly not a bad tune, actually a vibe. Name reminds me of the impending doom of humans but the song itself is just good tbh. Overall: Way better than previous album as I definitely wasn't bored while listening to it. Quite a different style but it was pretty good stuff.
Very interesting vibe, Electronic music can be hit and miss for me but this one is overall pretty good. I tend to like the lyricless tracks the most. Genesis is well known for a reason, but Phantom pt II is also pretty great.

I didn't love the album as much as I thought I would. Alot of the drum patterns are kicks on 1&3 and snares on 2&4 for large spans of time. There's some cool experimentation but a lot of the kind of dirty synth patches feel a bit samey by the end of the album. I've heard most of this album before so maybe it just lost it's luster / novel appeal because I'm familiar with a lot of the material.
D.A.N.C.E. is great, one minute to midnight is good, and the rest is borderline unlistenable.

A very, very good album. All of the best songs were right at the beginning, and in my opinion it all kind of went down slightly as the album went on. There were no BAD songs, just less great ones. I wanted more from the ending but it was perfectly serviceable. I went into this album kind of expecting a slightly heavier Daft Punk, since they’re both French electronic duos. But that’s not at all what this is. There are a song or two that sound kind of like something Daft Punk would make (D.A.N.C.E for example), but other than those, it’s totally different. This album also has something that always makes an album 10x better for me: the tracks flow into each other. There’s almost never a pause between songs, it just keeps on going, it makes the album feel so much more cohesive. Loved this album, will probably listen again. 9/10 Top 5: 1. Let There Be Light 2. Genesis 3. D.A.N.C.E 4. Stress 5. The Party
Genesis starts very metal and ominous, and jumped into an insane crunchy beat. Let there be light almost felt like a public service alarm but again became some beautiful crunch. D.A.N.C.E was a very upbeat change and was enjoyable. Newjack was cool but sounded not unique. Phantom had a cool bounce Phantom pt. 2 was a little grittier but about the same for me Valentine felt very ominous kinda video game-esque The party wasn’t really my style probably my least favorite so far DVNO sounded the same as what they previously did Stress was just a mosquito in my ear Waters of Nazareth was crunchy and fresh definitely my favorite. One minute to midnight was very rock oriented probably my second favorite. Overall:5.7/10
Electro house isn’t my natural jam, but this album keeps itself interesting with constant variations in rhythm, sounds and vocals if they’re in the song. Love getting that thought about what turns just random sounds into music and this album was thought provoking in that regard.

Great techno beats.
A very techno album, and its by a French artist and I didn't understand any of the few words they were singing, not sure if it was actually in French though... the music didn't have any story or emotion element for me. Feels like manufactured energy. I also don't really appreciate the intentional sound distortion and speaker blow out sounds.

Talk about a time saver. You know how you walk in some club and the first thing you see is an annoying deejay who's a little too excited about the shit he's playing? Despite the fact there's no one in the club besides him and a couple of bartenders who don't look like they have a clue what they're doing? What's great about witnessing that is you can just turn around and leave. Sort of like how you stop listening to this after a few minutes.
I have been in love with this album for about 10 years, the sound is so unique, revolutionnary, there are less interesting songs on here, but so many crazy ideas, like Genesis, Newjack, The Party, DVNO and Stress. I wonder how they ever came up with them and how they created the sounds. Sometimes the mix and compression can hurt some songs, but this is a classic
Favorites were D.A.N.C.E, Phantom part II, Valentine, and Waters of Nazareth. Far more intricate and interesting than your typical dance music

Let’s get this party started riiiiight. Absolutely love this album, so well crafted and flows well. Good breakup between lyrical and instrumental songs, all are bangers. The fact that you can understand the story with just a song title and some sounds tells you all you need to know. I have to give a special shoutout to Stress because I feel like it doesn’t get enough love considering it does actually stress me out every time I listen to it. Idk I’m rambling now but this is such an amazing album I wish I was old enough for the club in 2007 to hear this stuff.

fucking yes. Such a palette cleanser after Throbbing Gristle nearly drove me insane. I mean, anything after Throbbing Gristle is just gonna sound like hearing the fifth symphony for the first time, like I just discovered tonal harmony. But no. This is insanely good. Genesis is the most badass, microsampling, iPod-rattling, lightsaber-swishing song I've heard in a while. what happened to this kind of thing? Did everyone just get swept away by the tsunami of EDM and its spinoffs in 2010/2012? Because this is so fucking original and... cool. I want to be back in this world, where microsampling is cool again, Avalanches are cool again. And so original. Maybe the closest thing to me is early Daft Punk, but this is obviously far less reverent, more distorted, more experimental and ready to not give a fuck. Pure ear candy everywhere. And this really does sound like they made it on a Mac in 2007 running GarageBand with 256mb of RAM. I know I'm right. Limitations and creativity, man... Thank you 1001 for making me listen to this all the way through. It's a party! I still think it's cool. Guess I just want to live in 2007. 5/5

Idk if it is because I am listening in the wrong environment, but I felt like the songs just drone on and there isn't much to latch onto, but I also recognize that I listened to this while sitting at my desk at work when this should probably be listened to in a club or rave

It is more powerful that your typical dance or electronic music. I think this time, I am coming around. What drug do I need to take to really get into it? MDMA/ecstasy? Standouts: D.A.N.C.E., DVNO, Waters of Nazareth Others: Genesis, Let There Be Light, Phantom, Pt. II, Thhhee Ppaarrttyy, One Minute to Midnight. Justice Pretty cool. Definitely a sound of like 2010. DVNO and DANCE are the best tunes. The other songs have some cool sounds but need more compositionally. The stuttery short loud samples, bit crusher stuff, and super bright or midsy bass are a lot after a while. No warm tones at all all pretty harsh.
Good record for a late night drive. I typically don’t like electronic music at all but I actually really dug this. It was weird and groovy and the arrangements were interesting, it never felt too repetitive like this kind of music usually is.
The party sucks. There were fun moments but then the AOL dialup sounds never made me happy
Genesis - Brilliant opening drop, great horns and keys building towards the transition into let there be light, that has fantastic energetic wobbly synths, nice frantic hi hat patterns leading to a contrasting happy, chill feeling outro. Dance is a classic, Stress lives up to it's name and waters of Nazareth gives me GTA4 nostalgia.

Banger of an album. D.A.N.C.E is up there with MGMT for me for nostalgia for the ABC years. Genesis, DANCE, Stress and Waters of Nazareth were especially great. I love listening to house and hearing parts that are just blatant disco. Makes real sense that Daft Punk would rope in Nile Rodgers on their last album.
