Great album cover. Started off strong but got a little bored. Maybe if I listened to this outside of work I would’ve liked it more. High 3
Listen I like EDM as much as the next ABG out there but this was boring. 3/5
wild 7am listen
Overall pretty generic electronica, had a fun sound with some good to listen to songs.
Dont listen to dance music but this was alright, can imagine its good while running
WOW. The heavy and distorted baselines reign supreme on this album. The album is a very pleasant French electro and its songs are sequenced well.
Maybe just give Daft Punk a second entry and be done with it? Nothing wrong with this but it doesn't really grab me either.
It has been a hot minute since I last listened to this album; a 15-year minute. Much like Black Holes & Revelations, I wonder how well it will hold up for me now that I am crusty adult (that album proved to be 3 tracks good, 9 tracks awful for modern me). It possibly doesn't stand as much of a chance as it used to, as I have grown a lot more accustom to raw instrumentals and vocals (spoilt by the likes of Black Sabbath, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc.) Immediately, due to lots of use in TV and Commercials, "Genesis" is recognizable with it's evil fuzzy bass tone and near-gothic piano chords at it's close that can accentuate the feeling of so many different vibes; it is still a masterpiece now. "Let there be light" with it's shrill blips and reverbed bass is not as good as I remember. Despite the near-vocal synth tones that sound very similar to Daft Punk making for a nice ending to the track, it wasn't worth the slog through the rest to get to it. "D.A.N.C.E" and "NewJack" are as I remember them; fun electronic tracks with lyrical samples that fit perfectly. Both still very listenable to this day, which is great. Both parts of "Phantom" had their moments, but ultimately felt forgettable, as did "Valentine". In the past, I don't think I appreciated "TThhEe PPaARRtTYY" because of it's vocals, but now I feel as though more Justice songs should feature lyrics, as their sound (much like Daft Punk's before them) seems to thrive most when the eletronica supports vocals. For the same reason, "DVNO" is equally punchy; the change up from female to male vocals was also fun with the two tracks back to back. Whilst I understand the artistic value behind "Stress" being to generate just that with it's sound and video, it makes for tough listening as something to be enjoyed casually rather than something to be engaged with as an artistic experience. I am in two minds about this track: to dismiss it as a dumb inclusion on the album -or- to appreciate their attempt to do something different to what nearly every other artist does. "Waters of Nazareth" did nothing me, but "One Minute to Midnight" did and I'm struggling to put into words why this is. It's possibly the "darker" vibe of the beat in the latter that's having an impact, as I reminded of later stages in retro video games leading up to the final boss with this track. Overall, it's more hit and miss for me; a common theme throughout this journey it seems. I would do well to try and isolate why exactly this is, as quite a few albums fit this description now.
Good album.
From the very first note, this album felt familiar. I looked it up and found that Justice had collaborated with The Weeknd on “Wake Me Up,” which helped set the tone right away. The album then opened the door to a sequence of solid electronic tracks. It’s energetic, well-produced, and consistently engaging, though it does feel a bit padded at times. Overall, I found it enjoyable. I liked "Genesis" and "Waters of Nazareth".
Big nostalgia men litt for spaced. Alt burde vært D.A.N.C.E
Classic, I used to enjoy this album way more than I do now…still appreciate it
It's fine. Low rent Daft Punk
Strange, and had some positive points, but mostly just odd.
I'm not a huge electronic music fan, but thought this was a decent album
good loud , grungy, dancey noise
Danceeee
Ah, 2007
Some great tracks
fine dance stuff
Good dance pop electronics with a bit of edge to them. Favorite track: Genesis
Lots of familiar songs. Did not realise they were by this band. Enjoyable album
Another one not what I was expecting. The cover made me brace for heavy metal but it was heavy synth. Liked it
Never heard of this artist before this list. As EDM goes it did not annoy the sh#t out of me and that is saying a lot. D.A.N.C.E. is pretty great.
Cool I don't think it aged amazing
This was something I'd probably enjoy a bit more not through my headphones but quite fun electronic music. I had no idea that this artist was so popular.
If this was in the club then sure. Unfortunately I don't think music with this sort of high energy fun dance vibe works amazingly unless being played through a loud speaker with good bass- and I was listening to this in my headphones while trying to do maths so...
Surprised myself by really enjoying this.
I love a bit of heavy dance music and I love quite a lot of this. The heavy bass line cooks, but the tinny choice of top end sounds burned into my ears. I tried both on boombox and headphones and it makes no difference, it just hurts in places. The kids on "D.A.N.C.E." in particular are grating - that's a skip. Actually this album got better the longer it went. I've added it to my list of re-listens, but for now it's a 3.
Very solid choice of sounds, which provides a wonderful structure. Bolder than I remembered. With electronic music, I think my usual lack of feeling impressed comes from the sounds chosen and what feels like a locked standard of comfortability. I wasn’t blown away from start to finish but I did hold on to the texture from this album more often than not. I wish there was an even greater sense of movement, but I did enjoy a good number of the locations that were honed in on. A fairly airtight album, that I wanted to see continue with its boldness. Faves: D.A.N.C.E., TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY, Phantom
Warble
Cross as in mad? Angry Daft Punk. D.A.N.C.E. ✅✅✅
There were some jams on here
good vibes
started pretty strong, ended not as strong. Still decent.
Great electro album Song I like: D.A.N.C.E, Stress,
ahhh its instumental not fully. I only liked their instrumntals
3.7
Extra kudos for being an engaging listen despite the absence of any lyrics. A record that helped define “cool” in the 2000s.
Meh, kinda cool. I liked it here and there.
So this is supposed to be a modern classic for French House? I don't think its any better than Daft Punk's albums. There are certainly good songs on this album, I really liked D.A.N.C.E, Phantom pt 2, and One Minute to Midnight, but the rest was just okay dance music. I think it'd worth a listen for the good songs, but I can't give this more than a 3.
used to like this album a lot more. actually I think this makes the first album on the list I can say I had already listened to the whole way through, or at least that was already familiar to me. I had listened to it a lot at the gym in the first half of last year and because of that Justice actually scored a distant fourth place of top artists on my spotify wrapped. on a critical revisit during which I’m not super amped up (like I would be while lifting), the album falters quite a lot. It often lacks the virtuosity or variety that should bolster such heavy-handed ideas. At times it’s great (especially the last three songs), but in this album Justice tries to sound bigger, more important, and cooler than they really are. DVNO sucks ass
Solid
Was familiar with a couple of the songs prior to listening. Pretty good album overall.
I’m quite tempted to call this Poundland Daft Punk but it did have some good moments. I enjoyed a lot of the grooves but found lots of things quite formulaic and predictable. A well-placed “clap-clap” can be quite satisfying in an ironic-electro-cheese kinda way but when it appears every sixteenth beat it gets a bit tiring. Definitely took a page out of Underworld’s book, which is ok in my eyes but would like to have heard a few more original ideas.
Quite refreshing, although not my usual choice of music; really good when one wants to listen to something in the background while being productive :)
Similar to daft punk. Genesis smacks actually. Not sure why DANCE was more trendy (upon ready reviews it is because of Michael Jackson). No lyrics, so more so just rave music. Not my everyday type of music, it catchy just not for me.
Svårt. Pepp på nyår = magiskt. Trött på nyårsdagen = skona mig. Nostalgi? 100%.
Nobody does quirky, off beat electronica quite like the French. You can trace a direct line from Jean-Michelle Jarre to Daft Punk via Air to this album, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s described as an Opera Disco album, which if nothing else makes for a unique genre crossover. As you might expect it features a lot of sampling, including over 400 “micro-samples“ supposedly too short to be identifiable - take that, copyright lawyers! I know that at least a couple of these tracks will be going into my dance music playlists on a regular basis. Put on your best stripy jumper and beret, light up an ironic Galloise and give it a spin! Frog-tastic!
Beats were funky af
This is an interesting experiment. Maybe it works sometimes, maybe it is ... kind of different. I don't know. I did not hate it. You sense the vibes of Queen sometimes, but so totally different, so much more electronic (which I like). I guess I don't know what to think in a way. Interesting to be sure...
Actually listened to this for the first time a few weeks ago, it was okay, nothing too special, and played it very safe within the genre
3.3 stars rounded down.
I could see this being a favorite of mine but in practice it just isnt. Im not sure what it is but it has alot of things I do like. Its kinda heavy and grimey at times. It has some quick tempo on occasion. It just doesnt do very much for me. Its good but not really for me. Maybe if I gave it some more time I would get it but so far I dont see the appeal for myself. I can easily see this being some random friends favorite record. Just not for me I guess.
Some fun electronic stuff. Some not. Probably go elsewhere if I'm in the mood for this.
I don't love it, I don't hate it. I like how all of Justice's album covers follow a similar format to cross though. No particular songs jump out to me, but "D.A.N.C.E" is pretty good. I think I prefer Justice's remixes to their own songs though.
You know what, hell yeah!
3*
I get why Cross became a big deal. It’s bold, stylish, and packed with the kind of distorted electro-funk that must have blown the doors off clubs in the late 2000s. There’s a fun, crunchy swagger to the production, and some of the grooves flirt with being genuinely funky. But as much as I respect the creativity and the energy, this isn’t fully my lane. The blown-out synths and maximalist textures wear on me after a while, and I don’t feel the same pull to come back to it that I get with records I truly love. It’s fun in the moment, sure, but it’s not something I see myself returning to often. Bottom line: notable, occasionally thrilling, ultimately not essential for me. A solid three

some fun tunes at first but got increasingly annoying
It’s not for me but I get why it’s here
I've only heard "D.A.N.C.E" from this album and "Neverender" feat. Tame Impala. I very rarely listen to this kind of music, but I actually like it and it was interesting. If I were a fan of the genre, I'd probably rate it even higher. Still, 3/5 —————————————— Liked: — Genesis — Stress — Waters of Nazareth
J aime pas trop le bruit
alright
6.5/10 Exciting, but not always pleasant to listen to. Very strong start, but overstays it's welcome a bit. Highlights: Let There Be Light Genesis DANCE
New to me. This style of Electronica isn’t my favorite but I like some of the album.
I didn’t really get on with this when it came out, thinking they were less refined Daft Punk and less weird Mr. Oizo. In time I’ve come to appreciate the construction of the tracks and while I wouldn't think of listening to the album in full there are enough stand out tracks to warrant a listen once in a while.
Shows we've found something the French won't run from... Funky dance beats! Album started off so well, Genesis into Let There Be Light was fantastic and any album that starts with a smooth transition between songs already wins in my book. However the album starts to get weaker and fall more apart further on and the lyrical songs are just down right not good (The Party is an objectively bad song if I've ever heard one) Phantom II and Stress pick things up in the mid to late album but it's just a bit inconsistent. I did genuinely enjoy my listen and it's an album eveyone should try but those lyrical songs really detract from the overall album.
another one of those “i have heard better NOW” albums that just don’t feel that significant to me TODAY. But, it was still a fun listen
French people make good electronic dance music. It’s not particularly a genre I want to sit and listen to for half an hour, but if I have to, this is quality.
It wasn't what I expected based on the cover. It's actually an album you can listen to.
Noisy nostalgia
Didn’t hate it, even the songs with vocals were decent.
Dance music, fine in the club but not much.
Meh
Good stuff. I forgot to buy this in Paris.
started off fun but by the end i was soooo tired of it
I am generally not into electronic dance music but this felt a little different. It was about the tempo - there was a groove to be found throughout the album, unlike the hyper paced 90s stuff. I dug this one - again the tempo and there were cool melodies throughout. I can’t give it four stars though.
When this album came out, and Ed Banger Records was pushing French electro house, (Cross) felt like a breath of fresh air. Justice really stood out in that scene with their gritty and abrasive style that brought in some rock influences. I also liked how they played with samples, like pulling from old trance tracks and bands like Devo, which gave it a fun edge. My only issue is that some tracks felt like filler, just there to connect the better songs.
Rougher daft punk
Silly fun
Phantom Pt II is the standout so far. Otherwise this album is good but not quite as refined or mature as their contemporaries Air and Daft Punk. A little aggressive in it's sonics for me, but I bet it works better in a club setting.
Some big, fat, fun beats, if you're in the mood. Diminishing returns through the album - it's overlong and there's weaker stuff in there, but when it's great, it's great. 3.5
Couple of bangers. Hadn’t listened to the whole thing before.
I found this album to be a little tough to get through. Something I'm learning about myself is that when the music feels repetitive I can find a whole album to be a bit of a slog. That said, any one song off this album was awesome! Especially D.A.N.C.E. - a song whose slightly off-key child vocals should have annoyed me but absolutely didn't. I'd listen to any of this again, just maybe not all at once.
electronic. FIne. not my flavor
I expected to like this, but I found it surprisingly abrasive (not in a good way). I decided to give it a second listen and found it less abrasive, but definitely not the kind of thing I can listen to on headphones while working. This is meant for rolling on molly in a giant club. Even then, "Newjack" would still sound schizophrenic.
Its a good sound
Kinda fun.
Heavy hitting beats and fun synth sounds, hyperactive songs full of ideas that're constantly changing and introducing new elements, textures, samples, and rhythms glitching in and out. Anytime there're vocals it drops way off though, very annoying inane stuff.
I've loved all of the French electronic albums I've gotten on this list, but this one was just okay.
Not really my cup of tea but credit where credit is due- this is one of the more enjoyable electronic albums I’ve listened to. There’s a good amount of musical variety here that I feel like most similar projects lack
I dig it, good road trip music
Not bad
Never heard of them. oddly decent, for a bout half the album, then became a bit derivative.
Album is named Justice by Justice in Spotify, not Cross but this is an EDM banger. I enjoyed it.
transgressive and important to have a smoke to in a gay club. are justice the final bosses of sampling?
Fun party album in the vein of Daft Punk. I can play it around my friend Marc, who is “always raging”.
Hmmm. I don't think this is aging well tbh. The rocky bits are a bit tacky for me. Of course I love D.A.N.C.E, and The Party and DVNO were two tracks buried deep somewhere in the recesses of my brain, but a lot of the rest didn't do much for me. I think the songs with words are stronger, they give the tracks more meaning. Fave Tracks: D.A.N.C.E., The Party, DVNO 3.3/5
I could see how with the right environment and substances, people could find this enjoyable
I didn't hate it! That's about as much praise as I can muster for an electro-dance album. Not my thing, let's just say. But this one probably benefits from the fact that I am just a few weeks back from spending some time in Paris, and I can feel the Parisian vibes that I still so crave emanating from the music. I doubt this'll ever make it into my regular rotation, but I had fun bopping my head to this listen.
Have 1 iconic song
This was way better than I was expecting by the description.
On paper, this looks like something I was going to hate. Nice surprise that I actually find it very interesting. Lots of bloops and blorps, with glitchy/choppy staccato delivery. Not usually my thing, but what stands out here is that all of this very modern approach to music making is fused with the rhythm section of a '70s disco band, which acts like the backbone to the whole party. Even I have to admit it works.
I could hang with this. Not sure it would be on regular rotation - but as far as Electronica on the list this was good-ish.
Surprisingly interesting, diiiirty bass
Wnnabe RAM, not bad tho
Um. It's decent electronica. I don't personally find it to be the big deal it's made out to be, but I don't really know squat about electronica. I'd listen to it in the background, so that's good for a star.
Disciples of daft punk. Or should I say shades?
3/5. Electronic music. Okay, but it felt a bit generic.
I didn't want to like this, but compared to some of the recent submissions, I'd be more likely to listen to this again. Some interesting stuff.
Weird album, sounded like they were sampling 1980’s Atari games at times.
Not a genre I’d usually go for, so surprisingly enjoyable
It's fine, nothing super special though
Definitely heard the disco influences on this one. It's better than a lot of its peers in this category.
Started good, but at the end it was all just the same shit
It does have a unique sound.
that is nice, has Daft Punk vibe, I love how versatile their songs and approaches can be, but it did nit catch me
This album is exhilarating. And somewhat exhausting. My ideal house music has bouncy drums and something light over the top with cut up vocal samples. The tracks on here that sound kind of like that - like "D.A.N.C.E." - are great. But most of the others put way more emphasis on the synths than the percussion, and when the beat primarily comes from those distorted synths it's harder for me to get into. The first track is a good example of that - I'm not sure how I'm supposed to dance to that mid tempo synth line. By the end the noise overwhelms me, especially on "Stress." And I'm someone who likes noisy sounds in noise rock and other genres! I just done want it in my dance music.
I was dancing in my chair at the beginning and enjoyed most of it. The end start to drag a little. I didn't need two parts to Phantom and The Party and Stress started to get a little obnoxious. D.A.N.C.E and Let There Be Light were my favorites.
Dance music, not much bass
Poor man’s Daft Punk, it’s heavier than I remember
Interesting to see this album as part of this project! I know the popular Justice tracks so listening to the whole album was a treat. I’d say 50% of the songs were perfect, no notes, dance all night. But there were some misses there too, vibes were off… loud without a reason. The good ones are great but the bad ones are tough.
Electronica
Very decent electronic dance music. Some great bass lines. Suffers in this challenge from hearing it at home rather than out at the discotheque.
Strong 3, but still feels a bit like A Daft Punk rip off
Reminds me of a darker version of Daft Punk. It was an interesting listen, but ultimately I wasn't in the mood for electronic music today.
Heard Daft Punk, Chemical Bros influences in there. They drove a solid beat, but had some aggressive sounds not really my style. The party was tik tok lite amirite
Listen, I can't lie and say this album is my favorite. I really don't care much for electronica and found quite a few of these songs a bit jarring at moments. However, D.A.N.C.E and Genesis are absolutely phenomenal, and both of them can, and did absolutely, go on my playlist. The rest is not as good, but huge props to those songs for carrying this album up a star in my overall rating.
I was surprised that I did not hate this.
This was OK, like a rockier version of Daft Punk. The core sound is built on heavy drums and bass, not DnB but a strong kick and snare on top of which they layer Larry Graham/Louis Johnson-style thumb bass, although I suspect it is all sampled/programmed. The influences include disco and hiphop, but also metal-adjacent rock, classical, 8-bit computer-game music, Supertramp(!)... The cover looks very metal too - the black cross on the black background is very Black Sabbath, although it also owes a lot to T-Rex's Electric Warrior with its golden light highlighting the subject. None of the songs particularly stand out although they are all listenable. I wouldn't go searching it out but neither would I switch it off if it popped up somewhere.
Loud! Probably good, wasn't the vibe right now. Just made me want to listen to Daft Punk.
Let's get this party started right let's get drunk and freaky fly 😝
old school dnb lol
Some great tracks on here. Their live set is phenomenal. It doesn’t hang together as an album as well as I would like, but lots to dig into.
This was okay! I do love electronic music and I’d never listened to this band before. Nice to have something a little more modern than the 90s stuff.
Hadn't heard this in a long time, It's very 2007. Enjoyable, glitchy tuneful electro. Not sure it belongs on this list though.
Die erste Hälfte war cool, die zweite Hälfte ab The Party war etwas zu stressig für meinen Geschmack.
Daft Punkish but less
Had some cool elements but overall not really my style of electronic music
When I was younger and this album would have just been released I would have hated it. As a young kid into "real music" I felt inclined to automatically hate anything electronic and write it off as being lesser than the music I liked. I can say that as an adult listening to this I actually think it's kind of brilliant. I still don't "love" it, and wouldn't expect to, but there is definitely a lot of talent effort and coordination to produce an album like this.
When I saw the cover and title, I hoped this would be an underground yet critically-acclaimed Christian metal album that would be new to me and potentially life-changing. Twas not. D.A.N.C.E. was pretty great however - one of many things that eluded me in 2007. All in all, better than Daft Punk and if I was home-invaded and forced to play EDM I'd be okay with putting this on.
Well, this was quite something! Opens really well with Genesis, and doesn’t really let up at all! I’ll lump it in with the likes of Skrillex and Chase & Status and say that while it has a time and a place, it’s not something I’m ever likely to bang on the player. I can for sure see the appeal in this though. Good fun!
The first half was heavy and cool, glitchy and “mathy” with some cool sound collage and found sounds. It devolves into the usual and tired tropes in edm with the twee-singing chill hop and Daft Punk influenced dance pop. Disappointed after an intriguing start.
A real mishmash of interesting dance music!
An album wearing its influences on its sleeve and never really matching them. Some superb standout moments in a blitzing opening run; and later with 'Valentine' when the over-fuzzed rhythm section is given a backseat to spiralling and nostalgic sounding melodies. The album falters very badly over the last few tracks, and draws exceedingly unfavourable comparisons with those it tries to emulate. Balancing at midpoint.
From the rococo, maximalist end of the French, sample-tastic electro-disco-house spectrum. There are brilliant, banging moments on here for sure and Justice have a trademark, inimitable sound. For 48 mins though? Bit much for me
I don’t love this album the way other people seem to. It’s not bad but I don’t think this genre is for me. I’d rather listen to Daft Punk, but there are some good songs. 5/10
Likely is a complete masterpiece in a club full of people but sounded a bit meh when I was driving my car
Ihan toimivaa tätä tämmöstä musiikkia.
I remember hearing D.A.N.C.E everywhere for a few months in my teens and really fucking hating it. Hearing it again, it's every bit as screechy and annoying as I remember, which is a shame because the rest of the album is actually really good. 3.5/5
I was never that into this album. I think it's fine but honestly would just so much rather listen to Daft Punk.
Good EDM is very subjective and almost all EDM is not something I would listen to outside club setting. I'm happy to report that this is not your basic bass/rise/drop/repeat looped electronica, but actual songs in the style of. The album kept the groove going from start to finish, didn't miss a thing. Some of the songs melded into each other, so I couldn't pin point what was different about them, but I did other things while it was playing.
Not too shabby, but I just can't shake the feeling that these guys want to be Daft Punk.
7/10. Pretty good dance album.
Found this enjoyable but not optimal. Samples were cool but lyrics lacking.
Good vibes, good album, somre pretty good songs
Not every track was music but some nice hints at what music could be without instruments
Daft punk esque
This album was pretty good, given that I’m not super into or versed in techno/electronic music. I enjoyed it.
That was fun but I probably won’t do that again.
I wasn't sure at first. But the back end of the album was very enjoyable
Beetje synth dance.
Some of these would be great for a movie soundtrack, others for a rave. Not for sitting at my kitchen nook and drinking coffee (which is what I did). Not bad, but I probably wouldn’t listen again.
EDM isn't usually my thing so I don't really know what separates the really good stuff from the good stuff. I hear that this album has been put up there with some of the greatest albums in the genre, and that it's pretty accessible, so I'll probably get some enjoyment out of it, even if it's just on a base level. Gonna keep an open mind heading into it. Otherwise my expectations are kinda somewhat mixed, though do enjoy a bit of Daft Punk and these guys are also French so maybe there will be some crossover there. Genesis Quite an imposing and menacing intro, reminds me of an early sci-fi film. Really electronic, loops quite a bit. Kinda glitchy. Doesn't leave a lot of space in the mix, there's a lot going on at once. Fine. 3/5 Let There Be Light Really impressive transition. The snare sample is quite good. Sounds like a malfunctioning piece of electronic equipment. The bassline is quite good. It's interesting, though not sure if I like it. Compositionally I think the song layers itself well, builds upon a consistent sound and stays engaging over its entire runtime. The quieter outro is quite nice. Has its ups and downs. I see the appeal. 3.5/5 D.A.N.C.E Their most streamed song by quite some margin. I recognize it but have never given it much thought. Gets straight into the action. Has some funkiness to it, the bassline is notable. Don't really like the string samples. I find it sort of annoying. Don't really like the vocals either, mixed weirdly and has an irritating cadance and pitch to them. Gets kinda repetitve. Might not be a popular opinion, but I don't like it. 2/5 Newjack Choppy. Crunchy. It's a lot of electronic noise, though I respect the experimentation I can't really find a satisfying hook in there for me to catch onto. The vocal sample sort of grew on me. I'm wildly out of my comfort zone here, someone with a larger understanding of electronic music would probably find this more enjoyable than I did. Obviously competent, but don't really get it. Confused. 2/5 Phantom Robot beep boop. Well produced, good sound quality. Catchy. Sort of gets stale after a while. The limited sonic elements sort of blend into each other, kind of overstays its welcome. Lost interest about 2/3 in. Fine. 3/5 Phantom Pt. II Builds upon the previous tracks. Like the added violin(?) sample. Sort of freshens up the track. Bringing the bassline more into focus certainly helps too. Repetive. Fine. 3/5 Valentine Like the radical change of sound from the previous track. Sounds kinda flat. Has a bored energy to it that I really don't care for. I like the concept of the two high pitched synths playing off each other, feels like a bit of a dance. Fine. 3/5 The Party Kinda obnoxious. Dollar store Kesha. The sparse instrumental does not help. Nice synth. Kinda sucks, but has its moments. 2.5/5 DVNO Don't like the mixing, muddles the vocals. Messy and chaotic in an annoying noisy way. The vocal performance has some charisma to it. The solo at the end is kinda funky. Got really bored if it, didn't keep my interest. 2/5 Stress This is unpleasant. Stressful, suits the title. All emotions are valid when making music, though stressed is the opposite of what I wanna feel after hearing a song. Executes its concept perfectly, but I absolutely hate it. Can't wait for it to end. Evil song made by evil people. I will never put this on again. Whoever added the jumpscare and the alarms can fuck right off. Straight to jail. 1/5. Waters of Nazareth Keeps up the stressful energy from the last track. Really loud, really repetitive. Whatever enjoyment I could get out of this album was killed by the previous track. Sounds like a really annoying level in a fast paced platforming video game where I keep dying to some stupid obstacle over and over. The synths at around the 3 minute mark sort of helped relieve som of the tension. Stressful. 1.5/5 One Minute to Midnight Bouncy and fun. Trudges along at a nice pace. Some of the electronics are really harsh sounding. A nice vibe once you get into it. Ends abruptly. Decent. 3.5/5 Honestly knowing I wouldn't be into it I'm quite happy I listen to it. Has a lot of interesting elements to it, which sounds bad to me now, but may sound good once I explore the genre a bit more. Was confused through most of the album, annoyed at other parts, and bored at some parts. The parts I liked felt really engaging, and had lots of decent rhythm and great composision. I recognize there's a lot of talent involved in making this especially when you consider how well they managed to capture the feeling of stress in the song "Stress". When you consider how perfectly executed that concept was (me hating the song non withstanding) it's only a matter of personal taste standing in the way of my enjoyment of this. If this sort of electronic music ever clicks for me I will definitely revisit. Not bad, just not for me. 2.5/5 leaning towards a 3. Fave track. Let There Be Light Least fave track. Stress
Love those digi-funk grooves where it sounds like my Bluetooth is struggling to connect
Decent
#513. Dance music outside of a club meeting is equal parts annoying and depressing. 3/5: fine
It's got a groove
Electro dance party! It's fun, if you're feeling like that sort of vibe.
Awesome.
Listening to it fully may be it's downfall for me... I was on board with the first three, and I really dig "Phantom Pt. II".... But everything after that just stopped doing it for me. (6.8) ★★★
This is one of those things that's well-made, but just not my preferred style. I was kind of on board for the first few tracks, but ultimately, I just found it too repetitive. The fact that it was mostly instrumental didn't really help that. Ultimately, I'm going with 3 stars.
The tunes are tunes, the rest is the rest though. Bonn as.
I did not use a private Spotify session, though I had no idea what I was getting into. Turns out it was dance music. I immediately regretted my decision to listen to this album in the morning, thinking dance music would be to frantic for the morning, but it wasn't jarring. Not massively repetitive like some other dance music. I liked it, will have to listen to it again.
3.5
Besides the singles this was pretty unremarkable
6/10
Nice background music for baking. I enjoyed it for what it is. I don't dance much anymore but I appreciated the beat. No catchy hooks as you might expect, just a solid beat.
I’m not very into EDM, but this was a fun album to listen to. Immediately when the first song got going I recognized it as something I’d heard on a commercial or 5. Enjoyed listening to this one
Nostalgic so a delightful listen on that front. Memories of watching them live in Paris under a night’s sky gave me a proper bump at the start of the album but once that wore off I was just mildly impressed by it. It’s good music. I would probably want to own it but not because I rate it. More for what it reminds me of.
I really liked the vibe of the first half of the album. It felt a bit like Daft Punk but a bit more raw. I didn't enjoy the second half as much because the singing didn't feel necessary to me. The song "Stress" really made me feel anxious, which was probably the intention but isn't a feeling I want to have when listening to music. I'm saving the album to my saved album list because I do think I'll listen to it again while working or playing chess, but I'll probably skip "Stress" in the future.
Honestly a little disappointed as the only song I’d already heard was DANCE, and it’s by far the best on the album.
I kind of wish I could like this as much as I used to, but too much time has passed and I'm just not that person anymore. Still groovy, just not totally my cup of tea nowadays
First time listen & not bad
Nice sound from another band I'm not great with. Daf Punk's grandfathers
Medium. Didn't vibe with it a huge amount, but also wasn't bad.
Nice debut album by Justice. I was familiar with a few tracks by them, but never got around to listening the entire album. I prefer the instrumental tracks over the ones with singing. The jagged, chopped, and very prominent bass were prominent throughout the record. I wished, there were a bit more variety tho. Standout Tracks: Genesis, Let There Be Light, Phantom, Stress
I'm not really into dance music in general, but this feels like kind of evolved Daft Punk. Not really my bag, but not bad for what it is.
3.5 Fun listen, just not the type of music I normally enjoy
Favorite was D.A.N.C.E.
One of the better electronic albums. But... Still... Not for me.
Pretty cool sounding electronic stuff. I might have to be in the mood for this but I would come back to it. Favorite tracks: Genesis, Phantom, Valentine, One Minute to Midnight
Not usually a fan of this genre but it has some interesting appeal. DANCE is super funky. Quite enjoyable.
I'm not much of an EDM fan but this is perfectly pleasant, although it does get a bit repetitive and draggy towards the end.
New territory for me - I don’t listen to a lot of dance music but this is a good album that I think a lot of people would enjoy even if they aren’t into the genre. Took me a bit to get into the style but there are a few bangers that won me over including Newjack, Phantom, Let There Be Light, and One Minute To Midnight. Some clunkers as well - The Party and DVNO are both ruined by pretty bad vocals. The sounds range from clean and punchy to totally fuzzed out with an interesting mix of different eras of sythesis / drum machine and the occasional acoustic element in there as well. Enjoyed the slap bass that appears throughout. I think I would love this at a festival at 3am but probably won’t listen to it much otherwise. Solid 3.5 / 5 for me.
This is indeed a fun listen, and a nice occasion to figure out samples and their origin, for the one and other occasional track. I personally find the production to massively lack on bass, which diminishes it's value for the dancefloor. That is the main reason to only give it three stars - it is missing on its intended purpose and I wouldn't want sit for a full listen.
In 2007 I spent so much time at house parties where this album was in constant rotation that I ended up in a psychiatric hospital. In 2024 it made for a perfectly pleasant soundtrack to my morning jog. 3 stars for a grim reminder that time comes for us all.
I enjoyed it, but there are other albums from this genre that feel more inventive
I like that one song, but that’s it for me. 3/5
I kind of liked this one in the beginning, then the middle lost me, but the end of the album brought me back. I was surprised that I actually knew some of these songs, I think.
I liked some songs more than others. Not huge on this type of electronic music, but there were moments I enjoyed. I was surprised by how abrasive some of these songs are. My favourite track was D.A.N.C.E. unsurprisingly, the most accessible and poppy track. Still a good listen. 3/3.5
Fine album. Drags a little. Had an opportunity to improve on the best work of ratatat but is merely different.
Was not sure what to expect with this, but they seem much more adjacent to Daft Punk than I was expecting. This was a good listen and a fun album, though at times a bit much.
Less boring than what I was expecting for a house/ dance album. Some clever tunes and nice bass lines. D.A.N.C.E. is very catchy.
Nice French electronica. Some reminiscence of Daft Punk. Nothing outstanding, above average, but not much.
Not my usual genre, but this was very big, bold and mostly catchy, which I don't usually get out of electronic music. Sounds a bit like older Daft Punk, which is a plus for me. 3⭐️
Maybe the car was the wrong venue for this, I don't know. More boring than other comparable electronic music I like. Nothing stood out.
sorry all i got is uh, "inoffensive"
I have enjoyed this album in the past but today I think it was too much stimulation so my point in time assessment must be a 3
I remember D.A.N.C.E. from when this album came out. I'm not a fan of the heavy distortion sometimes used on this album. Other than that it's sometimes kinda weird, but mostly cool.
This just sort of felt all over the map for me.
Kinda weird and fun. Don't think I've even heard of these people before. The moodier, darker, instrumental stuff is nice.
This was pretty cool! Only ever heard that one song before.
STANDOUTS: maybe D.A.N.C.E? OVERALL: 3/5; I liked the general album noises. A relief from the British 70s rock/90s garage band noises I've been held ransom by.
Passed up the opportunity to see these chaps at Glastonbury, went to the far more on brand The National (sad lads) instead. Quite enjoyed this though actually. Not far off a four. Simpsons: No
Enjoy the vibes, considered a four but there were a few points in the album I wasn't enjoying as much. Would probably listen again though.
I had never heard of this band before, but I did kind of recognise the album cover. I quite enjoyed a couple of tracks but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to listen to it again.
Loved the opening and closing two tracks but the middle was just a bit middling
Nice production and interesting hooks despite suffering from sounding-robotic-ism. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Went in not knowing what to expect. It wasn’t this. It would definitely be fun to dance to but a lot of the songs are just a mix of glitchy sounds in a a different order. It became a bit of a chore. There were a few that I really enjoyed that I’d listen to again though. Highlights: Genesis Valentine DVNO
Some of it was quite good, really just not for me. Although, not unbearable
Woah, what a pleasant surprise for a Saturday morning. This is certainly an album I never expected to see on this list, mostly because we have a few Daft Punk records already. That said, as much as I love Justice, I don’t know if this one would make my cut.
Strong album, just have to find the right mood to listen to it. Not for the morning commute!
Gostei! Achei interessante. Eletrônico bem variado
first electronic album i actually somewhat enjoyed
Aww god, this started out banging and I was kind of excited but then it kind of fizzled out into all sounding the same. Damp squib for me. Great artwork though
Not my kind of music but it's certainly well-made.
I couldn't handle the last three songs ..they were like night at the Roxbury with lots of cocaine. The rest of it was enjoyable, but not my usual genre.
Kept reminding me of Underworld and early Prince which can't be a bad thing.
Think there is some mileage with repeated listens…
This is overall not my cup of tea, but there are some bangers in that record. Slower, heavier and dirtier electronic music than I usually hear.
This album got me through a lot of boring spreadsheet work about a decade ago.
Really just the one great track DANCE.
Not sure i get it. im not super into electonica/ dance and the sound is obviously very layered and well crafted but if I never hear this album again...ill be just fine.
Fun disco music with a twist. Good in small doses. Good rythm
French house and electro built from distorted synths, pounding four-on-the-floor beats, compressed samples, and occasional vocals feels like walking into a nightclub where the sound system has been turned up far beyond what the room can comfortably contain. The sheer force is impressive at first, but for me the constant distortion and repetition soon become more monotonous than exciting. There is a strong sonic identity here, yet I found myself standing mostly outside the energy rather than getting swept up in it.
Chaotic electronica. I love it but is it any better than a host of similar releases around the same era. Fun album just not as groundbreaking as this list likes to think it is
electronic dance music, kind of reminded me of daft punk. some songs were pretty good, others… not so much (“the party” was atrocious). overall, a mostly listenable album.
paar banger ab ansonsten a bissi anstrengend
Okay Album, but not really my type. I would describe it as synth-rock
Enjoyed it but some songs would be an immediate skip. Love the track Genesis

I didn't recognize this band until I heard that first break into the first song. It's a cool sound! Reminds me of Daft Punk with the genre mashing and tense yet cool energy. Something that this sound gets right is that it doesn't linger too long before it gives you something fresh. I appreciate that I could be dancing to this in a club or sitting down and drinking a coffee on a Tuesday morning before work, and the tracks on this album give me something fresh seemingly exactly when I want it. There's no 9 minute long meditations on the same exact beat that have been effortlessly copy and pasted in a D.A.W.
Decent album. Not great, but decent. 3/5
I thought that this was OK. Liked songs added: - Waters of Nazareth - One Minute To Midnight
Decent electronic pop mixed with rock’s harsher elements. I liked the distortion crunch throughout. The Party and DVNO were favorites. Wouldn’t really have a good reason to return to this though.
Et par bangers, men også et par lidt irreterende numre
Great record. Wild sampling ability. Heavily influenced by Daft Punk, but still brings a unique style.
3.5, didn't know D.A.N.C.E was from them.
Electronic music is not my favorite genre but this album rips! I’m in awe of the production, just some insanely dirty synths grinding out jams, beats that make go hard and make you dance driven by baselines so funky a prince himself would smirk.
Loud and noisy. Some songs are fantastic. Others induce stress
sonically nearly the peak of what electronic music has been in the last 20 years, but with a tracklist that feels a little too long and repetitive for its sound. However, it’s still a really great listen
3/5 Nothing spectacular
2,5
Eh
Not bad at all.
Justice is like Daft Punk but I slightly prefer them. It was okay but, even though EDM is my preferred genre, this probably won’t hit my playlists. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Phantom Rating: 3
that funky shit i liked it made by french people tho.... 3.3/5
3+
Just interesting
Interessant...
I have to admit, I didn’t expect to like this album. I was afraid it was going to be really redundant and boring. However, I actually found it quite interesting. Justice layered so many elements, between the samples, drum tracks, harmonic progressions and vocals, that I found myself staying engaged throughout most of the tracks. It’s clearly designed for the dance floor, so I don’t see myself ever cueing up this album on my stereo…unless I host a dance party (not likely), but I’d enjoy hearing it if and when I make it to the dance club.
Good for what it is but this isnt me
There were some songs that just grated on my nerves but they were balanced by some pretty great stuff on the other side of the coin.
This has ground on and on in my ears over the weekend. I've listened to it oh, I don't know, maybe 6 times. It's been pleasant. It's had energy. It's had interest. It's had 'oh god why' and it had sparks of recognition in me as some riff and rhythm reappears after a couple of other tracks and it's done in an interesting and fun way. In another universe, I was a keen disco dancer. Not this universe, another one where I was perfectly happy with Cuban heels, shapely cotton shirts and taught denim, all washed hard with sweat from hours being cheeky on the dance floor while attempting to find my own style and panash. Thats not the now me. I don't do that (I kind of wish I did) but that guy, he LOVES this album. Its bringing back dance echos of the 90's, spinning into fun energy from the90's, avoids the trance rubbish of the 00's and stays honest with disco themed feelings that track back to fun vocals of the 70's. I don't know if the vocals are actually fun in this one. They seem to just be artifacts of getting a type of sound out. One track has an urgency of getting to dance, that's a fairly good bit of music I could actually listen to and kind of understand (I'm not good at lyrics, I really struggle to parse them). How to rate this, its a good discovery, I'd listen to it again, was it spectacular? No, was it rubbish? No. Let's go 3 stars, with optimism.
Classic
Probably a 2.6 . This album is more obnoxious to listen to in my 30s
Not feeling this one all that much, but some parts would make for a great retro-esque game soundtrack. It dragged a bit sometimes, but there also was noticeable creativity. Near their end, most songs changed, which was always a welcome surprise. Also, it's always nice to hear the songs beeing connected somehow. Notes: - "Genesis" hit me unexpectedly with "horns and timpani" - "Let there be light" first half dragged, second got more interresting (last different part positive surprise) - didn't care about "D.A.N.C.E." until last part, where it, again, sounded different at once - "Newjack" has change in the middle with "lv-up" sound - songs are generally connected somehow - "DVNO" funky bass ending
The fuzzy, buzzy distortion is interesting but I'm not a fan of the glitch oriented sound. I get the microsamples idea but it feels a little disjointed to my ears -- though you can tell there's a lot of thought to song structure beyond a disco beat. It feels ambitious and largely successful, but maybe not my flavor of electronic music. 3.6
Appreciate the talent and innovation. But not something to just sit and listen to. Better for having on while doing something.
It's good. Nothing more, nothing less!
As mentioned by many reviews, "The Party" is a bit hard to take. Otherwise, a rockin' party beats album.
Wasn’t expecting a dance album.. It’s not really my thing, but it is a 52 minute long banger
Meh
Some really unique sounding beats that I swear I’ve heard sampled elsewhere although I came up empty handed on WhoSampled. Maybe a bit long but it’s good throughout (3.5/5)
Meh
I was so not looking forward to this, but it was one of the better electronicas we’ve heard so far. There’s some repetition, but you can tell that they put a lot of effort into coming up with cool riffs and sounds to put it together as a composition. I think they did a really nice job and I felt mostly like I was listening to an actual song or musical piece, rather than dunchicdunchicboboombom.
Daft Punk vibes. Wayyyy too much saw wave synth. Genesis started the album off with a hype and cool beginning. The rest of the album used the same drum beat and saw synth, making it really boring. I avoided listening to this album for months, it wasn't too bad.
not a fan
Noch nie von gehört. Coole Franzosen mit Elektronica-Dance.
this is usually not my cup of tea, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not having a blast listening to this. I like that it doesn't sound like, over electric. electric music just isn't my thing, but this feels so organic and I love the soundscape. pretty cool listen :)
Aside from the nostalgia, not my kind of sound. Although do love the way the album ends, really emphatic. Went from a 1-2 to 2-3
It's got the hits and is a fun album but not sure why this would be on any best albums ever list. Generic dance music.
Enjoyable but not sure why it’s on the list
I think I've heard D.A.N.C.E. played out of shitty MacBook speakers in a beer soaked dorm room more times than I can count. 3.5/5
This was... fine. I just kept thinking it sounded like pre-Daft Punk. I generally like electronic music but this was kinda meh, to be honest.
Fun, enjoyable dance tunes. I knew D.A.N.C.E but nothing else. Really happy I listened and I’ll probably revisit
Definitely interesting. I did not care much for the few vocals in this album. Also, I'm pretty sure I danced to some of these tunes at various clubs. 🤣
Eh
ist o.k.
strange, but I do like it, lots of electronic music, 3 stars
Too much electronic for me.
Good album - I had previously never listened to the entire thing. Back in the day D.A.N.C.E was a smash hit and I'd hear it everywhere, but I had never heard the rest of the album or any other music by Justice.
Pretty good. Great for a walk or workout.
interesting...
A quintessential French House album, with some pretty solid tracks on it. However, there's also a few tracks on it that kinda drag it down. The Party for instance felt rather inane. Most of the more vocal-forward songs didn't really do it for me.
