Reviews (page 9 of 9)
To be frank this album bored me. Most of it was just fine with some being a little bit worse than others but nothing on this album was above a 6 for me. It had good ideas but it got lost in all of the synth sometimes which got repetitive after a while. The beats I can say were pretty nice for the most part but overall it was just a pretty boring experience of not so dancey dance songs.
Oh. EDM. Not my thing. They don't sing. Just go bling.
Not bad as background music, but if that's the best one can say does it really belong on this list?
I don't really like the synths on the album
It’s a dance album, keeps you moving but nothing to insane going on
Fav songs: - The Party - DVNO
I can appreciate the effort here - didn't do it for me though
Listened Before? N Meh, it was okay. Doesn't really fit my style. Not big on dance/electronic music, and I don't particularly enjoy instrumental stuff. It does have some redeeming qualities but I doubt I'd listen again. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: D.A.N.C.E.
I truly do believe there is no such thing as "not my genre", only music that isn't to the listener's taste. This is definitely a good example of that for me. I get how this album may have influenced some modern electronic music that I do like, but this.. well... Not my cup of tea.
Yeah not digging this one. The biggest hit D.A.N.C.E. sounds like the Wiggles on ecstasy or something. The rest of it sounded like 8-bit sound clips mixed on a Radio Shack Tandy 1000.
Simply not a fan of electronica
4/10 idk why this was super hard for me to get through. Rather repetitive and I didn’t like the vocals at all.
3/10. Started out okay, and then I got to a track with vocals and it got worse, and then everything just started to go on too long and feel miserable to listen to.
Ok. Not my thing.
Fine, noughties-y funky housey something or other. Think basement jazz and daft punk. People went wild for that sort of sound but it washed over me a little bit. The album art is Sarah Lucas, who is excellent, and that's the highlight. If I recall, she did tlher crosses based on the crucifixion of Sebastian Horsley who was a very interesting man. Massive fan of top hats, heroin and sex workers. Basically, this album refers to more interesting stories happening elsewhere.
Прослушано! Типичная электроньщина, не моё.
Not great, but one or two songs I didn't mind.
Hmmmm....felt contrived and lacked something important...
Very.... electronic. OK.
Works well enough in the gym and, one supposes, at the club, though you'd really have to ask the kids. Besides the pure energy aspect, this, like most dance music, gets repetitive to the point of tedium awfully quickly and, thus, falls well short of one's minimal requirements for worthwhile listening. Perhaps there's craft one might notice if one knew more about the subtleties of the genre, but any sense of artistic merit is nowhere to be found and further study seems a non-productive exercise given that one's time is finite and one is, as the book title reminds us, going to die some day, which will certainly come to pass before one hears this record again (at least intentionally).
Ok beats.
I liked some of these songs in college. But I really did not like it on repeat listen, and overall as a CD it’s not very good. They’re just way too long on truly unpleasant sounds- songs like “Let There be Light and “Party” are so tremendously unpleasant to listen to. “Dance” is still fun and catchy, but hardly anything else is. There’s two main reasons why I didn’t like it this time. One is the distortion- now I’m a fan of a little distortion. But every track has these massively over-saturated lead lines on it- it sounds like a guitar novice who doesn’t know how to use the amp, and it’s a thoroughly ugly sound. That sound pollutes the entire album- I guess they liked it, but not for me, and like I say, distorted guitar never bothered me. The other is how repetitive it is- it’s dance music, so I guess that goes with the turf, but every song is basically one idea run into the ground, and I like a little more variety.
Honestly, it was fine. Definitely buoyed by a few songs but overall pretty repetitive. If this album came out in 2022, I'd probably have hated it. Cool cover but mostly boring music. Standouts: Genesis, Stress, Waters of Nazareth, One Minute to Midnight
Another electronic album full with loops, random noise and repetitive beats
It's pretty annoying actually. If you're not dancing to this, it is a fairly obnoxious album. I don't have much to say about it. I'm open to electronic music now and then, but not the dance albums. I like some of the mixes here and there, and D.A.N.C.E was alright, but overall - I couldn't really get into it.
I really want to like Justice and should like them, as i love Daft Punk, the Prodigy and other electronic acts. However they just sound like a poor version of the above.
This tries to be Daft Punk, but, despite what the book says, fails by a long shot. I found the listen tedious. 2/5
Enjoyed D.A.N.C.E - didn't really care for the rest of the album.
Here I thought it was Daft Punk all along.
D.A.N.C.E. is een tof lied. Voor de rest is het helemaal niet mijn muziekstijl, soms had ik moeite om een lied af te luisteren.
Sounds ok but it's EDM, it gets boring.
This album was pretty cool but I'm just not that much of a fan of instrumental music/music without lyrics. That being said, my favorite songs from this album were Genesis and Stress.
Not into EDM
Not bad, but not clear what's significant enough about it to be included here?
D.A.N.C.E is quite catchy and somewhat enjoyable. I remember giving this album a go at the time. I didn't manage to get into it this time around either.
I've never liked this album even though it's a genre I generally love. it's all just a bit too harsh in sound. A very dirty Daft Punk.
I would have so been into this a decade ago when I was regularly going to Burning Man… now a bit more sober and I’m so not feeling this. A
Not bad overall - just not particularly special or interesting. Many of the songs start strongly but then peter out and end badly.
No Justice. Just us.
draft punk
pretty boring, if Daft Punk made a video game soundtrack but not in a good way
Budget Daft Punk.
Interesting, but sounded a little dated already. Lazy comparison, but I'd probably turn to Daft Punk if I was in the mood. A half decent Body Pump fitness soundtrack.
Very cool and clear production, but overall I didn't enjoy the song structures, and at times the instruments were downright grating. 'The Party' is the only sing I enjoyed all the way through.
Couldn't get into it.
Ok, a bit reliant on noisy synths. There are better albums of this style (daftpunk obviously)
I listened to this blind; I'd never heard of it and knew nothing about it. The album started interestingly and I was somewhat intrigued, but have a few tracks it was all starting to sound very similar all the way through. Possibly the result of using such small snippets of samples (yes, I went to the Wiki page) within a very limited musical palette and with only a few musical ideas. It would be fine to dance to a couple of tracks on a night out, but I'd soon want something else.
2 1/2
putas tetas porno
Música un tanto tecno y pop. Sin mucho alarde. Demasiado instrumental. Le han faltado muchas cosas. Se me hace muy plano. Desconocidos en su totalidad
There are a few great tracks on this album, these tend towards the vocal tracks and less the instrumental tracks. The album seems to have a loose running instrumental motif running throughout which ties it together, but also has the added effect of making it feel long and drawn out. With only a few stand out tracks, the album tends to feel a bit samey. Not terrible, but not great!
Indie kids in clubs. What a time it was. Thank fuck for the lack of smart phones. Other than D.A.N.C.E. this album is a bit of a mess, i shouldn't be surprised by that but i remember how fucking big they were for about a year. I don't remember the album from first time round but i definitely went to some nights where justice were on, don't really remember them either but that is clearly for other reasons.
Like shit Daft Punk
Dance music is definitely not my thing, but this wasn't terrible; it starts fun, upbeat and tuneful, sort of predicting Daft Punk. But then it begins to illustrate several of the universal laws of dance music. 1. It doesn't work outside of a club (with possible exception of gym). 2. It doesn’t sound right at any time of day other than late night. 3. Listening sober is no good. 4. It began to grate the longer it went on. 5. The more vocals the worse the track. 6. Darker tracks read as failed attempts to be taken seriously. 6. The sound ages poorly (in this case the drum machine and synths), starting almost immediately, because of the overreliance on tech. 2.2 at best, even grading on the dance music curve.
Cross by Justice (2007) Most of this album is ‘instrumental’, if the meaning of that term is stretched to include electronic/synth/mechanical beats and elaborate sampling. Very elaborate sampling. The sound is cool, despite the proliferation of ‘clipping’ of samples, resulting In very little resonance in the overall sound. Three of the twelve tracks (“D.A.N.C.E.”, “The Party”, and “DVNO”) are actually ‘songs’, meaning that they include (maudlin) melody and (limp) lyrics, although even here, melody and lyrics take a backseat to the beats and samples. The greatest weaknesses here are the unrelenting repetitions and lack of development and dynamic variation. All the dynamism is in microseconds. 2/5
Daft Punk's brattier younger brother. DANCE is great, not really a fan of the rest of the album. Step away from the compression, kids. Every beat doesn't need to hurt.
This is a very hard album to rank. As far as EDM goes, I liked this album more than others I have received so far, but there were some issues that I couldn't overlook that ended up bringing it down quite a bit for me. On the positive side of things, 'Cross' was not boring or generic in the slightest. It didn't seem to heavily rely on samples which I personally feel can be a detriment on a lot of these well-regarded electronic albums (while it takes talent to recognize/manipulate good samples, it is not as impressive in my eyes as original creations). I loved the original melodies and instrumentation present on this record. It had a great bit of variety featuring funky bass, Supertramp-like electric organ ('Valentine'), and old-timey piano ('Stress') that helped make it something unique. Most of the songs did not feature vocals at all which allowed for the music to stand on its own. With that being said, this brings me to the two major negatives I found on this album. The first (and not as big a deal) is when vocals actually show up, they are either weak ('DVNO') or downright awful ('The Party'). The latter featured a singer that I would describe as a bootleg Ke$ha which is a description I hate to give to anyone. The second issue and what mainly brought this album down for me was ironically the synths. The electronic noises on this record were terribly loud and super distorted. Maybe it was just my earbuds, but there were moments where it made some songs almost unlistenable, and even if the ones where they were a bit more subdued, it would still take me out of the experience a bit. If the synths were more clean or incorporated more into the production, this would probably be my favorite electronic music album outside of some of Daft Punk's work, but I don't think I will be coming back to this one due to how it is intended to sound. I think EDM fans should give this one a listen, but I can't give it the recommendation that I wish I could give it. 2.5/5. , but some of the synths are terribly loud and distorted that takes me out of it a bit. The Party is one exception where vocals are present (second half of the album has more vocals DVNO), and it is pretty bad. Reminds me of a bootleg Ke$ha (if that's even possible).
This isn't really my thing, but some of the songs (like D.A.N.C.E) were good. That one in particular was a dedication to MJ, which I love to see (and has references to some of his songs).
Not my thing.
I started out sort of liking this one, thinking of it as a 3.5 star album. But it got significantly worse during the second half. The Party was pretty bad and Stress was so annoying that I had to skip it to remain sane.
I was excited to listen to this album because I’ve seen it for years and how good it was. Disappointed - a few standout songs, but majority are just repeating noise.
Didn't love it. I liked D.A.N.C.E., but it got really old fast. All of it just sort of blends together.
inte alls like bra som jag kom ihåg det? allt lät samma och ja mm besviken
In the late 90’s I was into The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim quite a bit. This seems like a second tier act to them. The Party song is woeful and some of the samples actually pull you out of the song rather than add to it.
## General notes: Maybe it was ground breaking at the time, but I found it uninspired and ultimately boring. REALLY reminiscent of early Daft Punk while not bringing anything fresh or unique to the mix. Not for me. ## Song by song **Genesis:** Glitchy house, not an interesting progression, but nice sound. Some Daft Punk influences. **Let There Be Light:** Vintage drum machines, more glitchy sounds. A sense of theatrics. Really interesting distorted bassline. Nice electric piano coda. String machines and airy synths, Opens up the range a little of what was shaping as a kind of boring record so far. Ends in interesting cacophony. **D.A.N.C.E.:** Wait. What if I made the beggining of the song like I'm tunning on a radio? What? That's already been done? A thousand times? Nevermind, lets do it again! Kind of interesting house/disco sounds but also kind of boring ultimately. **Newjack**: More of the same really, this is not getting better. Dropped the album ultimately, I'll listen to something else
De singles zijn duidelijk een heel stuk toegankelijker dan de rest van het album, die duidelijk niet mijn smaak was
This comes across as a less-inspired knock-off of Daft Punk. I get it, Daft Punk doesn't own or didn't pioneer the genre but this record sounds derivative of that style and falls flat. I see this was released in 2007, so they had 10+ years of evolution in the style to add some innovation but they had nothing to offer.
It's...eh. I don't really like this kind of music. Overall, I think the album starts off okay and then kinda drags. I'd definitely say it's a little too long. Could have been worse, but I wouldn't say that I needed to hear it before I died.
hmm
October 6, 2021 Not what I was expecting. Meh.
Not keen, funny how dated it sounds
Cross may be goofy, cheesy, and often tasteless, but it isn't completely boring either. Whether it's the chopped and screwed antics borrowed from Aphex Twin for more populist purposes on Let There Be Light or the disco thump and girlish vocals of D.A.N.C.E., there's often something to surprise, amuse, or hold one's interest. One thing I should mention--with the exception of the vocals, easily 90% of the music on Cross is composed on laptops from samples. That these samples come overwhelmingly from house, 80s R&B and techno goes a long toward explaining how texturally ugly and cartoonish Cross is. This is offset by the high level of detail in the arrangements. Cross may not be IDM, but it's not blazingly obvious and stupid either, which is more than I can say for most dance music. And if you can stomach the sound world, you might even describe Cross as fun. Sure, that's a low bar, but Justice just clears it, so I'll hold my nose and give Cross 2.5/5.Okay, I wrote the previous paragraph just a few songs into the album. Unfortunately, Cross gets more conventional and less daring as it goes along.
Not my style
Eh. Like a way less compelling Deadmau5. I could live with never hearing this again.
Proto dubstep, nice enough but not bucket list material. Might come back to this for woodshedding at work
First Listen. First few times I heard this, I didn't like it at all, now it is growing on me. Enjoyable. 2/5.
Pretty musical for this type of music. Long-winded sometimes. Not really my style.
Genesis and 'let there be light' did nothing for me. D.A.N.C.E. is a bit more fun with the 'choir' thing / little girl voice thing going on. Its catchy. Newjack is just annoying. Phantom is better: at least it has a bit of tune on top of the heavy beats. Pt2 has a fairly arbitrary organ-like stuff on top, which doesn't particularly help : doesn't go as well with the beats. Valentine passed me by a bit Tthhee Parrtty has a fun cheeky voice-over thing going on - from let get this part started. Bit of bounce to it. DVNO - ok Stress- quite like the 'rough' scratchy thing Waters of Nazareth - uggh. bit too 'hard house'-y for me One minute to midnight - quite liked this - a bit more sci-fi digi-pop going on!
Album didn't do much for me. A couple times I said "yeah this is cool" but just as many times I said "pretty annoying". Don't foresee a second listen for this. 2.5 🌟
Electronic music is not my taste.
Certainly not a first thing in the morning album, but I quite enjoyed it. Perhaps more as driving music for a long journey.
Het stof ligt weer mooi herverdeeld in de woonkamer. Toch: meer 'mjah' dan 'critically acclaim'. Wel leuk om nu te weten uit welk nest D.A.N.C.E. komt.
Elektronisch. Kein Zugang. Nicht auffallend schlimm
Weird but not in a good way
not for me!
Okay to listen to if I didn't pay too much attention. Got better as it progressed.
.
Des musiques que j'aime bien mais angoissant dans l'ensemble
I bought the album at the time......didn't play it much.....my opinion hasn't changed
2/5
An unholy, noisy mess. Daft Punk did it better. I gave it 1.5 stars but rounded it up because its a nice sunny day today.
meh, just couldn't get into this. im not an electronica fan.
Bueno, electrónica...
mediocre, dated
nao gosto de eletrônica dsclp
Not entirely sure what that was, but i don't think I'm a fan!
Alright.
I respect it, but I am not a fan of EDM.
D.A.N.C.E was great , otherwise too glitchy
5/10, average. Some good tracks, but doesn't stand out from particular era of electronic music
Nie je to nič pre mňa. Mám rád veľa elektronických vecí, ale toto ma nechytilo. Nič, čo by som potreboval opakovane počúvať. Tým pádom 1.
Meh
This album is electronic disco. I don't get this at all. It seems amateur with the cheesy (in a bad way) synth sounds and simple production. The songs with singers are slightly better.
I've been on this planet for 60+ years, and heard a lot of electronic and dance music. Most of it has been enjoyable, with Kraftwerk (for example) having earned a permanent place in my play lists. This album, however, is one of the worst I've ever heard. Truly abysmal.
Annoyingly tedious. Someone pressed the Demo button on a Casiotone.
2/10
Näää, damit kann ich nix anfangen
YGBFKM! Enough of the weird electronica crap. 1.
2 minutes in and this shit is going to be painful. On the second song now and it's somehow worse. This shit is absolutely terrible. It's not even interesting like Duck Stab. Honestly, this is making me want to increase Duck Stabs rating. Fuck this album. This is borderline not music.
i remember the hype when this came out, and listening and it just wasn't for me. let's see if time has done it any favors. update: nope, still not for me.
I'm not sure I would've described other albums on this list as painful, but this one is pretty close. When it calms down the melodies aren't completely awful, but that's damning with faint praise An assault on the senses with little to no redeeming qualities: not one of my favourite geometry dash levels
I can get with some EDM but this is just grating. Terrible
1.1/5 Not a style of music I really enjoy. If I was at a dance club I'd probably like it but not just to listen too.
Oh I do not like. Fav song is ‘THHEE PPAARRTTYY’.
DNF
This isn't Monster Magnet at all.
This was very bad. It’s better than that Mariah Carey bullshit but not enough to get over a 1.
Quite the penitential experience
French electronic music duo are 4 words that shouldn’t be combined. Dreadful
auditory hell. sounds like a group of kindergartners playing around with a synthesizer. there are many many better techno, dance, electric musicians than this. Avoid at all costs.
No for me, just churning, obnoxious noise. Far better examples of influential electronica out there.
Day821 - i want to find the guy who listened to this and decided i need to also hear it
29/03/2026 1. genesis - very dramatic... electronic? not really my thing, but the bass is nice :) 2. let there be light - like how the tracks fade into one another. 3. d.a.n.c.e - nice bass. again, not my thing! 4. newjack - like the start of it more than the previous tracks... alright as background music i guess? 5. phantom - like the distorted sound, but this just does not appeal to me at all!!!! 6. phantom pt. ii - like the strings. not much else lol. 7. valentine - nothing else to say. 8. tthhee ppaarrttyy - do not like the start... do not like the rest of it either. 9. dvno - like the vocals in this one more.. not mad on the lyrics though.... bit pervy? bass near the end is nice. 10. stress - more interesting sound... very tense! bit long though... gets repetitive after a while. like the kindof harpischord sound near the end. 11. waters of nazareth - nothing else to say again! so happy this is almost over!! 12. one minute to midnight - so glad this is over!!!! was worried this was going to be a metal album from the cover, so was a bit surprised when it was electronic! just not my thing, didn't really enjoy any of it!
A complete waste of time. 1 star or F-.
I was not a fan to be honest.
This was NOT good. I hate this super electronic style. Everything starts to sound the same and fake. I guess some interesting things happened sometimes, but overall this wasn't great. Actual rating 1.5 Liked Songs: "D.A.N.C.E." , "Phantom Pt. II" , "DVNO" , Waters of Nazareth
Something about the production was very unpleasant for me 1.5
Ummmmmmmm
Ugh. Noise. Samples without intent.
Horrible, has Christian looking design and song names, but music sounds like it comes straight from he underworld
i don’t mind EDM but i thought the sound was harsh
It's mostly instrumental with a bit of vocals. Doesn't really land. Best song: TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY
Ta bort den där
No.
this best not be prayer music noooo I really like lyrics boi what there better be some lyrics in this album I don't... like..
Unbearable. 1/10
I enjoyed this more than I would have expected based on how terrible it is. I usually try to give every album a couple listens and this album was only tiresome during the first listen. It was excruciating on the second. However, that was nothing compared to the real pain which arrived when YouTube Music served me up some Justice-adjacent suggestions after it finished.
1 - TERRIBLE
I'm an electronic fan but this is pretty much terrible, exceedingly tough listen at the beginning, starts to redeem itself ever so slightly at Valentine and The Party then gets incredibly cringey and dated with DVNO, then continues to go downhill from there.
Not for me
not my taste, do not listen!!
Repetitive noise
Complete shite
Nearly unlistenable. One of the worst live shows I have ever seen in my life. People pretend to like this, right? Best Song: D.A.N.C.E. Rating: 2.0/10 Stars: 1
it was an abomination. What a racket.
sounds annoying
Nope
Why so much EDM on this list. All sounds exactly the same.
a miserable experience
Not my thing
Not familiar!
Didn't like this. Unable to connect with this
Never heard of them, of course. Click on the link, Apple Music opens, and I see "Electronic." Oh joy. Let's get this over with... First song does not sound terrible, but I see this getting VERY old VERY fast... Second song starts off sounding like someone fucking around with a Casio and then turns into noise that seems intended to annoy someone. I don't think I hate ALL electronic music. I have been to shows at Big Ears that I have enjoyed that would definitely be considered electronic music. But a lot of it annoys me in ways that other genres don't. Like, there's a lot of pop/country/pop-country music that I don't LIKE but I can listen to it in the background and basically ignore it. But a lot of electronic music actively bothers me - I can't ignore it because it aggravates my ears. Much of this album fits that description. (Sort of funny: While I was working with this in the background, part of this album was especially annoying so I clicked on the Apple Music window to see what song it was, and I was relieved to see that it was almost over. The song was called "Phantom." Then I looked to see what the next song was and it was "Phantom, Pt. II" and the annoying noise just kept going into the next track.) Unsurprisingly my favorite track was the first one with lyrics ("The Party.") Reminds me of Lords of Acid. Wikipedia says this track is actually called "TThhEe PPaARRtTYY" aaaaand now I'm annoyed again. Heard another terribly annoying sound later and clicked to see what it was and the track is called "Stress." At least it's an honest title. I now hate this album. I will be so happy when it ends.
Not for me this album.
Noise noise ugh save me
this sucked. it sounded like a bunch of meaningless sounds put together on a computer and it was way too repetitive - didn't/couldn't listen to a full song
Mist! Mist! Mist!
Electronic. Not my jam.
I get music, i love most genres. But if someone has the time to explain to me what this absolute dumpster fire of an album is 1star is generous
Good lord
Difficult to finish each recording.
Some decent moments. Quite some annoying sounds in others. We already had Daft Punk. One hit on this album and it features kids singing, not my thing.
too techno for me
Not in my edition of the book! 2007. 1 star. Tedious and annoying electronic noodling. Sounds like the background music from early video games. WTF is this shit doing on the list?
As we sponsor those who turn the artistic process over to the machines we, collectively, become less and less human. What exactly are we celebrating here? No human performance. Are we celebrating these two's ability to program computers to generate tones? AI can now do that, too. That people have become so desensitized to the difference between human music and robotic sound is tragic. Computers make it all so much easier. No one needs to hone their skills practicing instruments, or playing in school gyms or small local clubs, or listening to other musicians - whether to imitate and learn, or to learn to play within a group. Just sit in the basement and program your Mac. Look at the musicians throughout history. It took years, if not decades, of playing night after night after night to figure out what they sounded like; to bring new forms of beauty into the world. But the clubs where young people could do that are now gone; lost in a vicious cycle driven by our listening choices. What human element is, then, left in the process? In the very near future, the owners of the channels of distribution - Apple, Google (YouTube), and Spotify - will be the only human beings benefitting from the consumption of sonic entertainment. They’ll just program their machines to make it all. We’re almost there already.
No, I don't like listening to seizures
I just couldn’t do it. Maybe another day
This really sounds like you are trying to upset people!!!! It is not pleasant to listen to and is certainly not enjoyable!!!!!
Not my scene
Shit
I had to quit at the 4th track. Started out kind of promising, similar to the Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk. 4th track went back towards DP's earlier work, where the good stuff was punched in the face over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (ad nauseum) with noise by people pretending their stuff doesn't sound like shit. And then people lapped that shit up like the good little dogs they are.
yeah, no thanks
"Valentine" had a catchy groove to it that reminded me some of "Jet Set" by The Specials. However, the rest of the tracks, and electronic music like this in general, just doesn't do it for me.
Weird dance music
When I started this project, I promised myself that I'd listen to complete albums. Bad decision. I foolishly thought that the 1001 ALBUMS YOU MUST HEAR BEFORE YOU DIE would actually be good. JUSTICE is not my cup of shit. ⭐ ________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 81 🎧 LPs left to review: 920 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 18 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 20 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 23
Not bad just not a fan of electronic music
I no longer respect the authority of this list. I will continue to participate in the Random 1001 Album Generator but I will no longer refer to it as the albums you should hear before you die. Because it just isn’t. I was in high school when this album came out and when I tell you know one liked or talked about this band or album ever. Like why is this here?!
Why?
No
More dull electronica, why is there so much of it on this list?
Klingt immer gleich und nicht viel anders als Daft Punk.
I’ll be honest – Cross by Justice didn’t do much for me. I went in expecting something exciting, given the hype around it, but it left me cold. While I can appreciate what they were trying to achieve, the album feels more like style over substance, with only a handful of redeeming moments. By the time I reached the end, I was just relieved it was over. I’ll give credit where it’s due: the production is clean and polished. Justice knows how to craft powerful, bass-heavy tracks that fill the room. Songs like “D.A.N.C.E.” stand out with their catchy, danceable rhythm, and the vocal layering is interesting. The duo clearly has a unique style, blending disco, funk, and heavy electronic elements. It’s bold, and I can see why it resonates with some people. The use of textures and distortion adds an edge to the album, which, in theory, should create a thrilling listen. Tracks like “Phantom” do have moments where the layered synths and heavy beats come together effectively. But for me, the negatives far outweigh the positives. The album feels relentlessly chaotic, like it’s constantly trying to overwhelm the listener. Instead of creating an immersive experience, the constant barrage of noise became grating. It’s loud for the sake of being loud, and I found it exhausting rather than exciting. The tracks often lack cohesion. One minute you’re hit with blaring synths, and the next, a funk-inspired breakdown appears out of nowhere. It feels disjointed, as if Justice was throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks. Songs like “Stress” are aptly named because that’s exactly how they made me feel – stressed out. On top of that, many tracks overstay their welcome. They build up but don’t seem to go anywhere meaningful, leaving me counting down the seconds until the next song. There’s very little breathing room on Cross, and the constant sensory assault became tiring. I found myself just wanting it to end, which is never a good sign. While some might call this style exciting or innovative, for me, it felt like overindulgence at the expense of actual enjoyment. By the time I reached the halfway mark of *Cross*, I was already desperate for it to end. The chaotic, disjointed nature of the album made listening to it feel like a chore. Each track seemed to drag on forever, and instead of getting lost in the music, I found myself constantly checking how much time was left. By the final song, I was just relieved it was over. I never want to hear this album again. It’s the kind of experience that leaves you mentally drained rather than energised. Justice may have crafted something bold and experimental, but for me, it was a relentless, unpleasant slog.
That kind of music just doesn't make any sense to me... 1 star
There’s a part of me that wants to generously round this way up to a 2, because it Sounds Better than all the English dance music from a decade or so earlier. But I’m not sure it deserves it. It sounds better by default, being from Continental Europe, and being made by guys who are playing on a better computer than the ones available in the 90s. Either way, this sucks. It reminds me of all the sorta indie-rock guys I knew discovering cocaine and getting sweaty and annoying. Sounds like shit too.
I'm so bored of this electronic music. Bored Bored Bored
"GOD ONLY KNOWS..." I really liked this, but I have zero tolerance for combining religious symbolism and music without explanation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpgP7xI7i7Y&t=57s
Stil?, 2007 -> 1
Craptronica
Reminds me of the Friends episode where Ross was playing his music. Horrible.
this is so distinctly not for me i’m so sorry ….. what the fuck highlights: n/a (nov 12 2024)
dnf not my vibe
Na. It's kind of ok, but becomes tedious rather 7 quickly. Like short attention span music. Like making a collage out of your mum's magazines in primary school. My son is 12, and in his music lesson they have a digital platform for creating music. This reminds me of his creations. AI will certainly replace these types of musician, for better or worse, and I won't even notice. Picture a star with each point cut from a different magazine. With glitter glue. That's the star this album gets.
very 2007 indeed
My streaming device (Amazon) couldn't find either the album or the artist so I'm putting this down as 'obscure'
This was a rather annoying album
Boring.
this is just boring daft punk. next please.
Same song over and over. One continous song that sounds like its restarting again and again. On different one that I think was the single. These are soundtwck music for fight scenes or raves at movies. Not to sit down and listen. Fail
This was a tough listen. The less said about it the better.
Dance music
hmmmmm nope
Oh great, another Electronic album. no thanks
Nah
Not a fan of this album. It didn't flow nicely, not one song was good the whole way through. There were parts I didn't hate, but that's not ideal.
Hood music, gang music
D.A.N.C.E 👍🏻 some songs felt like there wasn’t much progression. Just the same part over and over. Very boring and don’t wish to listen to it again
Daft punk but ass
Jesus christ. People listen to this? The Orgazoid called.. He wants his shit music back.
Hard pass
A bunch of noises that don't belong in music. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I like electronic music, but man was that bad.
Meh. Alleen dat ene bekende nummer echt leuk
Sounds like a bad electrical connection
Not my style, hurts my ears, sorry
I didn't like it at all
This just wasn't it for me. Can't say I'd ever put this back on again.
I can not listen to this. I did try but had to keep skipping through.
Nahhh not my thing.
Mid 2000s hipster shit
Not a big fan of this group or their type of music really
No
Una mierda
Felt too abrasive
I'm sure others may enjoy this - but not for me.
Un horror
This is my 87th day doing this project, and the 9th Electronica album I’ve been assigned. More than 1 in 10 rate. Coming in to this listen, Electronica is my second worst rated genre, at 1.88 average. After this rating is added, that’ll drop to 1.78. I just hope I don’t get subjected to any/many more. Sorry, this just isn’t my thing. And this specific Electronica offering is probably my least favorite of the Electronica albums I’ve had to endure. 1/5
Repetitive rhythms with some sounds smashed in. Song with lyrics (one or two) were worth listening.
Not for me
Justice's Cross disappoints with its dull and repetitive nature, heavily reminiscent of Daft Punk. While some hail it as a resurgence of dance music and a revival of the golden age of EDM, I find it lacking in originality. The album's only saving grace is its clever use of subtle samples, but overall, it did nothing for me. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None
Nicht meins
i did really like Phantom, and Phantom Pt. II because it let my brain rest after the first few songs in the album. that was really nice. my favourite song from this album overall is Phantom Pt. II. I’m giving this album a 2/10 because while i can appreciate that it’s been done very well, i just don’t like it; if you like electric music / disco, this is definitely for you ! full music review on instagram @musicwithnessa
Not my taste at all. My AirPods Pro2 failed to play the bass…. The sound effects Sounds pretty bad
Listening to this was such a horrible experience, and you can't say I didn't give it a chance cuz I suffered through all 48 minutes of it. I'm happy I don't have to do that again in my life, Amen.
I didn't know them. And now I know why.
Don't like
I gave up halfway through this album. I couldn’t even make it through an entire song.
i like d. a. n. c. e. but that’s it. almost like rage music. not a fan.
**Disclaimer. This isn’t a fair review. Only listened to three tracks.** It took two guys to make this? I wanted to say that this record is dollar-store Daft Punk, but that is offensive to both Daft Punk (obvi) and to dollar-stores. They’d never sell this shit. Sounds like ‘my first synthesizer’ by playskool. This record is a reminder that 1001 albums is actually a fair shit-ton of music and by sheer odds there’s got to be some seriously, craptastically bad music. This is that. 0.5/5
This is a crime against humanity.
absolutely not into this, couldn’t even get through
Wasn't my thing, it was like this electric party dance music. It sounds like the music people would shuffle dance to.
nah
A very techno album, and its by a French artist and I didn't understand any of the few words they were singing, not sure if it was actually in French though... the music didn't have any story or emotion element for me. Feels like manufactured energy. I also don't really appreciate the intentional sound distortion and speaker blow out sounds.
Talk about a time saver. You know how you walk in some club and the first thing you see is an annoying deejay who's a little too excited about the shit he's playing? Despite the fact there's no one in the club besides him and a couple of bartenders who don't look like they have a clue what they're doing? What's great about witnessing that is you can just turn around and leave. Sort of like how you stop listening to this after a few minutes.
No go, nobody listens to techno.
Not my style
Pjesma 6 jedina koja valja Pjesma 11 je zanimljiva Ostalo nije moj stil
Please stop giving me EDM albums
Sorry but I can’t stand this record. Usually I’m a huge fan of everything electronic. But this record is too much for me. I didn’t like it back then and I still don’t like it now.
Electrónica ruidosa horrible.
a não ser que eu tenha tomado ÁCIDO não tem a menor CONDIÇÃO de ouvir essa bagaça. cruzemcredo!
Nope, techo dance
Gud vad tråkigt!
Well that was less fun than playing in traffic.
Not for me
1/5 didn’t hear anything interesting or new here. chirpy/clipped sounds were more annoying than anything else.
I did not like it
Is this even music? Just noise..
The kind of electronic music I can't stand. Primitive
Turned it off after a couple of songs, not my kind of music.
I went in fully open-minded again, but Electronic Dance Music fails to enjoy me. Some parts were ok. Even a few small parts were nice, but is was mostly terrible. Maybe a 8am train ride isn't the best setting, but I can't image any other setting would make this better.
I hate electronic music. “Music.” every song got worse- the repetition along with the horrible sound just tied in my hatred for the entire album.
This sounds exactly like 2 guys got hopped up on goofballs and had access to Ableton Live for 72 hours and endless sound patches. Individually on a very micro level the sounds are really interesting. Drop in at almost any point for 20 seconds and something cool is going on. The problem is that *none* of these work as songs. And after wayyyy too short a time this is exhausting, literally. It's an assault on your ears. Like "let's cram EVERY hardcore saw wave synth patch into these and change sounds every 30 seconds!" enough, please. And fuuuuuu... the sidechain pumping is off the charts nauseating (that sense of pumping on the beat every 2 or 4 beats. it's too too much. all.the.time) Headphones on for a "whoa!" experience but take them off after half a minute before you get dizzy. 2/10 1 star
Liked D.A.N.C.E but not really any others
It’s not air or daft punk
First impressions: This is not my style...but trying to stay open-minded. I don't really "get" the album art + album title + song titles correlation or meaning. It's kind of hard to judge it as a cohesive album. Genesis has a good opening for an album but then has a part where it sounds like a plane is taking off which I hated. Let there be Light has a nice beat for dancing but then very quickly becomes straight up noise pollution. I think most of these would make for great, mindless lose-yourself dancing, high at Red Rocks or drunk at Bowery Ballroom. I just would never put it on at home, or on a road trip, or really when sober, period. It's just really really hard for me to accept that I needed to listen to this before I died. There are better albums out there. OH DANCE. Yes okay I've heard this one. This one is way better. Okay but then we're right back with Newjack and the static noises making me think my phone/headphones are experiencing technical difficulties. Such a frustrating song. I'm just...angry now. I made it halfway through the song but had to skip. This album is stressful listening personally. I dipped my toe into a few more of the songs and it's pretty repetitive. Valentine was better than most; The Party was worst than most (DNF). I listened to the last four all the way through. Stress was aptly named. I had to give up on it after 2 minutes because it was just winding me up. Not really what I turn to music for, especially dance music. Just sounded like a horror movie with that background noise. DVNO, Waters of Nazareth, One Minute to Midnight were better than the others. After 3-4 songs, I stopped, and following day had to grit my teeth and muscle through the rest of the album just to be fair to the artist. Only song on here I'd ever think of listening to again is DANCE.
I couldn’t finish it
Cross by Justice? And it's French electronica you tell me? I couldn't muster an ounce of enthusiasm for this even if you paid me a million dollars. Say it with me again everyone, in the hopes it actually comes true this time: NO MORE FRENCH ELECTRONICA!!!!!!
The fact I'd forgotten this is justice in itself.
This thing... it's not my kind of thing.
??????
nope
I can somewhat appreciate some of the works that was put into it, but its just abrasive. Its like if you take synth wave, mix it with whatever samples you can find, mangle it all up and add a dance beat to it. 1 star
Nop
Shit, not that I like.

down vote dubstep
Eww
Nah
Helaas, kan me niet bekoren
I tried to give this a chance, but it was terrible.
Kind of fun for work, but mostly monotonous and uninteresting.
