I've heard this described as one of, if not THE, greatest hip-hop album of all time. Well, if this is the definitive, then I'm prepared to write off the genre as a whole at this point. I'm sorry to say that I hated this. I went in with an open mind and listened to the full album, watched a review of the album that provided a lot of context, but I just simply did not enjoy this. I won't be listening to this again. Sorry to all Wu-Tang Clan fans out there, it's just not for me. At least I can say that with confidence now having given it a real chance.

Wow! This may be the best hip hop album I've ever listened to. Fantastic from start to finish.

I didn't enjoy this much at all. Some songs were torture and I ended up skipping it entirely (looking at you, Track 2). Some of it was good soul music, I enjoyed the song "Sex Machine" a bit, the vibes were good. But this just isn't my thing overall. Some songs reminded me of The Who who I know were popular in this era. Not something I would listen to again.
I really enjoyed the album. I've been wanting to get into reggae for the past few months now so I'm glad that this was my listen for today, I thought this was a strong introduction to this type of music. No Woman No Cry is a classic for good reason but so many of these songs were catchy and fun to listen to. Great pick for today.
This album is a brilliant musical adventure. I didn't love every single track but every track surprised me and kept me engaged. I was looking forward to hearing what was next. There's nothing predictable about this album. It's something I would definitely listen to again and maybe the tracks I didn't like as much would warm up on me. Very pleased with this pick.
First listen ever. It's not bad, it has some good (even great) moments too. But I found it repetitive and not that interesting or unique. Sounds like some quintessential 90s/2000s to me though, really captures the zeitgeist of the time. Not all bad, just not my thing, I can respect it though.
This is a good album -- I liked what I heard. To me, I don't think this one is going to be memorable overall, but I definitely did not have an unpleasant experience listening to it and would be pleased to hear it again if someone turned it on. It's easy listening music, pleasant, nothing exceptional. I'm happy to have experienced it though.
I've never really been into punk/emo, whatever you want to call this. Google informs they are a "rock" band. But this was a really fun listen and it helped me work through some anger that I was feeling this morning. If I had listened to this (and had the capacity to listen to it objectively) as a teenager, I think it could have been an album I listened to regularly. Not so much my vibe these days but you know what, it's something I could still listen to occasionally. You're never too old for Linkin Park. "Crawling" and "In The End" were my standout tracks. Good pick today.
I listened to the first few songs and had no desire to listen to the rest. Moving on.
Fun, soft, gentle, and cute! I liked this one. My favorites were My Drug Buddy and the cover of Mrs. Robinson.
I didn't feel strongly about this album either way, felt like background noise to me, it did not do anything special. Not memorable at all for me. My favorite track was "The Girl Who Wanted to Be God".
I liked this album, it was a pleasant listen. The lead singer's voice is so smooth and soothing, and this album was funky. It was a fun listen. My favorite track was their cover of "Listen to the Music".
Is it good? No. Does it stand the test of time? No. Is it fun? Mostly! I didn't grow up listening to Britney, I was too young. This album came out when I was just 1 year old. Listening to this album today I tried to adopt the mindset of a 13 year old girl in 1999. It's a fun album, but it's not empowering at all, no good values to be found here for teenagers girls. Teaches women to live for love and for men. I guess Britney was never positioned to be a good role model for women...but she was, all the same, and I think that says a lot about the late 90s and early 2000s what kind of role models women had. I don't know. I'm reading into this too much. It's girly bubbly teen pop. I really liked "Soda Pop", it's a great vibe change and a really fun track. Overall it's a decent album, definitely iconic.
Repetitive, boring, bad singer. No idea why this was on the list.
I liked the first few tracks but it got worse from there. Sad, I really wanted to like this one. 3.5
Fun rock album! My favorites are "Want You to Want Me" and "Surrender". The rest of the album is just fine but these two songs shine through.
It's really great. What a classic. I'm going to listen to this a lot more often.
Haunting, personal, beautiful, depressing. This is a great artful album especially after listening to four days of Britpop. I totally understand why this is on the list. It's impactful and is different from anything else I've listened to before.
Just literally no desire to listen to this album. It's so not my thing. I'm sure it's good and worthy of being on my list. Just not for me whatsoever.
I thought this was a really strong album, so many classics. I hesitate to give it 5 stars but it's so close in my eyes. Some songs are a bit grating but this album rocks overall.
I liked Keep on Moving, it was a strong start, but quickly the album fell apart into bad vocals and repetitive tracks. Not for me.
Sunshine of Your Love is really only the song that I enjoyed from this album. It does have a strong cohesive sound and I think it holds up well. But it didn't stand out a lot for me. Decent album, would not mind listening again.
I barely enjoyed listening to this at all. Not my thing.
I can't believe I haven't heard this album before. I've heard some songs from it before, as they are very popular, but it's unfathomable to me that so many hits spawned from one album. In fact the quality and volume of this album is insane to me. I enjoyed nearly every track on the album. I'm definitely going to listen to some of these songs over and over again, what a powerhouse. Stevie Wonder is an icon.
I really did want to like this one but this album mostly annoyed me. The stand out track for me was So Hot - (Wash Away All Of My Tears). I really love the sound of this song and unfortunately it's found nowhere else on the album. Based on the first track, I really was hoping that I was in for something special but it ended up being mostly a disappointment. Giving this album, sadly and as much as I wanted to enjoy it, a 2/5. It hurts.
Nice album, easy listen, pleasant, only left a slight impression. Songs kind of blend together but at least it's not a bad sound. My favorite track was "All the Way".
A super strong rock album. It's hard to believe this is their debut, there are so many hits and they have a consistent sound throughout. Fantastic rock through and through. No complaints.
No way I got this lucky. This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I own this on vinyl and had the pleasure of listening to it twice. Every song is fantastic and about half of the album is comprised of some ofu favorite songs ever. Baba O Reily, Behind Blue Eyes, AND Getting in Tune? What a treat, what an album!
At first when I was listening to this I wasn't a huge fan. I thought that this album was long, bloated, and repetitive. It wasn't too novel and each song blends together but it was pleasant and easy to. But after I read how much Stevens read about Illinois to prepare for this album, I realized that that the structure of the album commentary on what it's like living in Illinois, or living in the Midwest in general. Long, repetitive, and it all feels the same. I'm not sure if this is exactly what he was going for but this really helped the album click in my mind. If you're curious about what I'm talking and what he's doing here, look up Midwest Regionalism studies. Literature, film, and music (or any media) related to the Midwest. Throughout so many works of the Midwest you can find these common themes of longing, dissatisfaction, feeling like an outcast, repetition, and boredom. This is a great entry into that genre, putting to song what Illinois is truly like. I may not listen to this album a lot front to back but I think I will start listening to Sufjan Stevens more often. Great sound.
Seems like a good fun soul/jazz album. Not really my thing regularly but it was a fun groovy listen for today.
1
Really groovy album, not much to say here but it was solid! I would listen again, I love instrumental rock.
I haven't listened to much of the Beatles. Despite being familiar with their hits, diving into this album was a new journey for me. 'Revolver', with its unique and distinct sounds, truly stands out as a product of its time, and it's hard to believe it came from the 60s. This album showcases The Beatles not just as musicians but as true innovators in the music world. While I admire the album's originality and the way it broke new ground in the music industry, I find it's not an album I see myself returning to regularly. There are definitely a few tracks that struck a chord with me, and I will be adding them to my regular playlist. Overall, I'd rate 'Revolver' a solid 4 out of 5 (4.5 if I could do half stars). It's a brilliant piece of music history, but for my personal taste, it doesn't quite hit the mark for constant replay. It's a must-listen for understanding the evolution of music.
It is a perfect album.
I really like what I'm hearing here, it's experimental and fun and so interesting to listen to, and I really wanted to give it 5 stars but it just falls short of my arbitrary expectations for a 5 star album. I haven't listened to a lot of Funk or Soul but I know that I'm really open to the genre and I'm just looking for that one album to send me to the moon. This isn't it unfortunately but it's quite close. Just more confirmation that I really like Funk. My favorite track was Maggot Brain, it is dark, moody, mysterious, yet funky, and not at all what I expecting from the album going into it.
Not bad, inoffensive and a pleasant listen with some good moments here and there.
I was so surprised by this album. Beautiful, weird, experimental, synth vibes. An unexpected 5 stars.
Liked it! My favorite track was "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore".
Fantastic album! "Stand Up" is my favorite but I was groovin' from start to finish.
It is simple. I see Bohemian Rhapsody, I rate 5 stars.
Good tune, guy was a bad singer
Very unique sound with powerful lyrics and powerful emotive singing
Fun album, I love Tiny Dancer. Indian Sunset is a huge blemish though.
This album has potential, why don't they just fire the singer? What a trainwreck. The rest of the band is out here making great music and then the lead singer sounds like a drunken fool. Debating between 1 and 2 stars, I'm going to give it 1 star because I was consistently annoyed while listening to the album and I never want to listen to it again. Missed potential for sure. 1.5.
It didn't do much for me but parts of it were okay. Spotify only had half of the album so I could only listen to half of it unfortunately. For the sake of kind of liking it, and because I couldn't finish it to give it a full assessment, I'll give it three stars.
Weird imperfect but charming and fun and different to listen to. I'm not sure if I'll ever listen to it again but this was a nice change of pace I liked it. four stars.
Very little redeemable value. I do not want to be associated with anyone who created or who enjoys this album one star.
I really liked this album. It's the kind of calm, quiet folk that I really enjoy. Easy to listen to, great lyrics, great melodies, just all around pleasant and enjoyable.
It is such a good album. Every song is so sweet and beautiful. My favorites are Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and So Far Away. Such a classic yet timeless album.
More fun than I expected, honestly! I had a good time listening to this album. Took me back to when I was a kid playing Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero.
it's so bloopy and blorpy. This is why I wanted to do this project, to hear weird experimental music. Despite enjoying it for it's uniqueness, and I'm glad I listened to it because it was so different, I'm still giving it 3 stars.
Apparently Gilberto died of smoke inhalation saving this album from a fire. A tragic loss of life and tragic that this was the album she died to preserve. The story behind it is more interesting than the album itself which is a pleasant listen but nothing noteworthy.
This is fine, good even, but clocking in at almost two hours is a no-go from me.
Really unique digital sound, I liked the sound but quite a few of the songs didn't work for me. Some of them were awesome though. Weird and experimental, this is one of those albums where I'm glad I'm doing this project.
Left no impression at all
A classic Christmas album. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is an all-time great. A fantastic album, full of songs that I still hear all the time so many years later. Pretty incredible. Darlene Love has such a lovely voice.
Sounds like angsty girl pop. Not my fave but not really bad
I liked some of it at first but idk it got annoying and boring and I didn't want to listen to it anymore
I love ELO, but this is not my favorite album by them. A lot of their best songs are here but I think the album is bloated a bit. They could remove 5-6 songs entirely and I think it would be a more cohesive album. By the end of it their iconic sound gets weary due to the sheer length of the album. Still, I love ELO. 5 stars.
I liked this quite a bit, my favorite track is "I See A Darkness". I'm sad this isn't on Spotify, I'd listen to it a lot more. Pretty good sad boy album!
A classic that changed the rap world. Maybe the material is outdated today but the beats go hard and Em is spittin' bars. It's not my favorite Eminem album but what a precedent this sets, what it must have felt like hearing this when it first came out. Eminem is a legend.
I did not care for this very much, the tunes are pleasant and simple but his voice gets grating after just a few songs. Not very enjoyable to listen to, felt like a chore after awhile.
Boring
Honestly great vibes
Didn't do anything for me I listened to the whole album and I do not recall a single feature of it sorry
I'm a sucker for classic country music, this was fun.
Very good
I mostly hated it but it was listenable
This was my first listen to this album and it is just fantastic. I love the sound, I love the cover art, I love the imagery and the tunes and just everything about it. I can't believe I'm hearing this for the first time. I loved it so much. Albums like this are why I am doing the list.
Fun! Intense.
Might be the most average album I've heard so far.
Where Is My Mind is good but the rest of this album is steaming garbage. Wtf
It was nice to have something a little different to listen to today! Refreshing.
Musically this is interesting and if I could tune out the lyrics I think I would like it. Unfortunately, I can't, so I don't. Not my thing. Sexist and vulgar.
I really love Pink Floyd, but of their more "core" albums (Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Animals) this is the weakest. It's hard for me because there are so many great tracks here. Yet there's a lot of songs that I have a lot of mixed feelings about. Overall I think that the album is bloated and incredible highs but some "meh" lows. I think it will be a rare occasion to listen to the whole album front-to-back and even though I love so many of the songs, as a whole the album isn't cohesive and I will gravitate to one of the Pink Floyd's other works. It's great but flawed to me.
How did this get made? Some of it is so amateurish and ridiculous. Not a good album but a fun time.
Too long, not very interesting to me
Mixed feelings about it, a lot of it was chill jazz and I liked that but near the end it got more preachy and like slam poetry and it wasn't something I enjoyed anymore. Too overtly political
Fucking intense album. Not for me but it was a good listen as it was a fun change of pace and I support that. Great, unique instrumentals and hardcore vocals. I like supporting the metal albums on this list.
Enjoyable listen but probably something I'll forget about by tomorrow
Reminds me of Rush but a little less prog. Pretty good!
Never heard of this album before. I was a bit surprised by the backlash, I thought a lot of this was great. I generally dislike albums that are over 50 minutes so yeah this one starts to drag a bit but I had a really great time listening to the first few tracks. Fun album! Folksy, rock, psychedelic, orchestral, lots of different sounds to love here. Maybe that's why it's disliked since it's such a grab bag. And maybe that's what I liked about it.
This was my first ever David Bowie album and I kind of hated it.
Good but forgettable. An hour flew by and I barely processed it
Whatever. Didn't like it and it wasn't unpleasant but I'm in a bad mood and this didn't help so 2 stars.
Ridiculously stupid but fun album. Fuck it, four stars.
5 stars? Why not? I loved it. Such a classic feel. Breaking Bad-core.
Good sound, a lot of hits I recognized. But the length though. Two hours? Not for me.
My first time listening to this album, what a treat!
Surprised by this, immaculate vibes
Might be one of the most forgettable and boring albums on this list. Still giving it three stars because it was listenable and not offensive to the ears in any way but I will never think about this album again, it left no impact whatsoever.
YHEOW!
This is my first time ever listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I liked some of the songs quite a bit actually. I would have given it four stars but it's just so long. -1 star due to length. Three stars.
I don't like Bob Dylan and I was tired of this after two songs
I like a lot of what I've heard here, and I really considered giving it five stars but it lacks that memorability factor that I look for in a five-star album. Still a very good and pleasant listen though.
I'd give it a 2.5 but I can't. I'm in a bad mood today so I'm going to round down.
A nice, easy listen for a Monday morning. Can't stop thinking about the review that said this was made for a FIFA video game soundtrack. I'm still laughing. That's so accurate.
Listening to one of these songs was good. Listening to a couple more, started to like it less but I still appreciated the harmonies. And then, as each of the rest of the 16 songs marched on, I started to feel like a prisoner of The Louvin Brothers and grew irritated. Not for me.
Super fun listen. Not every song hits. But what an eclectic range of tunes.
Just not a Bowie fan. Doesn't do anything for me.
I have a bias here because "Our House" is the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding, but it's still a very good album!
Pleasant enough, good background noise. Easy listening. Too long of an album for my liking.
Overall, it's just a little too intense and noisy for me. Some of these songs are really good and surprised me actually. As a whole I think that the production was well executed and their intentions come across clearly. It's just not for everyone, and it's just not for me. Special shout out to Kerosene which is genuinely a great song. That song alone I would give five stars. But overall, the album was kind of a tough listen for me. Very interesting though, I'm glad I had an opportunity to experience it.
My man really got his speculative noir film score into 1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die. Mad respect.
I would have loved this when I was depressed in college.
Reminds me of a modern day Bob Dylan. Pleasant listening today
Time it was, and what a time it was, it was A time of innocence, A time of confidences Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you .
This was surprisingly good!
I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, some of it was good enough, kind of boring, a little above average but something about it kept it down for me. Meh.
If I liked Punk music more, this would be great album! Unfortunately I don't, but I recognize that it's a great entry in the genre! Some fantastic jams here.
I like Yellow but the rest of this album is low-key boring
Completely dumbfounded by how much I enjoyed this. These songs are ridiculous and genre defying that it shocked me. And a Slim Shady feature to boot. It may be trashy but it's really fun to listen to. so many albums on this list I have no thoughts or feelings about and they pass by with no enjoyment and I still give it three stars. In contrast I found myself having a really good time listening to this one.
they really heard this man gently whisper over light guitar strumming and called it an album to hear before you die
Maybe if this were 40 minutes it would be an acceptable album but I was just annoyed
I wanted to like this one but there was just nothing here that made this above average
Something pretty different here. Didn't work for me but I commend the effort.
Some of these tracks are true classics and it was a joy to listen to. Other parts of the album drag on a bit and some of the tracks I'm not a huge fan of. The tracks that work really work for me but there are a few skips in there too that bring it down a star.
Sounds great but I really don't want to listen to two hours of this. Seems like a fantastic live album.
It's not unlistenable (well, it's literally not on Spotify) but it's not something that I want to listen to either.
Would have given this a three stars it's totally average, but given it's excessive length I have to take off another star
Wow! This may be the best hip hop album I've ever listened to. Fantastic from start to finish.
A challenging album to listen to, Duck Stab/Buster & Glen might be one of the most interesting albums on this list. I’ve never heard anything like it before, and that’s one of the reasons I started this list. Experimental rock that breaks all the rules of music including sounding good and having comprehensible lyrics. Which translates to 35 minutes of weird noises. God, now this is Punk music. Its short length helps a lot and on Spotify there are a lot of bonus tracks and different versions of the songs with better production. Quite thought-provoking and I’m glad it’s on the list but I don’t think it’s something I want to spend any more time with. I’m here for the weird shit and I’m glad this exists.
my man needs to swallow his food before singing his songs
Instrumental smooth jazz, good stuff, some easy listening today.
Inoffensive but overly long and boring. Would have given it 3 stars but two hours of this is unbearable.
Could not finish this album. Every song sounds exactly the same, with poor mixing and ass vocals. Not to mention the 70 minute length. Hard pass. I'd heard everything this album has to offer after listening to three songs, and it's not much.
Didn't make much of an impression but was a pleasant enough listen. Good sort of psychedelic/ambient music.
Very unique, haven't heard anything like this before. Good listen!
Iconic album, but some of these tracks are just rough and cringy to listen to
Just one of my favorite albums of all time. No big deal.
The first song is an absolute trainwreck. The last few are better but just fine.
While listenable, this isn't something I want to listen to. At all.
Too long, generic dad rock
Whiny-voiced lead singer, terrible listen. Not a fan but I actually really like We're Going To Be Friends so I begrudgingly give it a third star.
I love The Who usually but this album is just not it.
kind of sounds like adam sandler?
