Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Very specific sound, very of its time, which I happen to like. Sunshine Of Your Love is deservedly iconic and several other tracks, like Tales of Brave Ulysses, still impress. But the album is uneven at best; I did not find Dance the Night Away all that danceable and several other tracks like Blues Condition and We're Going Wrong aren't particularly inspiring. Take It Back was a surprise fun treat. Overall, a worthy entry in this list.

Iconic!

A very psychedelic album by Cream! Some of the more popular songs I had heard. Even Clapton seemed to have been experimenting a little bit! Over all I enjoyed the album.

Mi canción preferida es Sunshine of Your Love"

seee 8/10

Excellent

Just a really good psychedelic bluesy album. Blue Condition and Mother’s Lament were both bad but the rest of the album was a warm gooey jam. 4 stars

The album was released 1967 when I was 6 years old. ;-) I have not noticed it at that time, what a shame! In addition, my parents had a different preference. "Sunshine Of Your Love" is well known and a great song. Also the other songs are gentle music that are nice to listen too.

I'm not sure I would call this one of the greatest albums of all-time, but it is, at worst, really solid for sure, and has some really nice highlights in Sunshine of Your Love. The back half of the album is so good. I take back what I said before. This definitely belongs.

довольно банальный и в то же время изобретательный психодел. База Алкоальбом: любимый ебанутый коктейль в странном нью-йоркском баре

Truly the highest highs and lowest lows - the few songs with Ginger Baker on lead very nearly dropped the album a whole point. Sunshine fucking SPANKS tho.

Some good songs, I liked it. Claptons a prick though

Psychedelic rock at it’s best. Powerful rock blues album.

Strange Brew- 8/10 Sunshine of Your Love- 9/10 World of Pain- 10/10 Dance the Night Away- 10/10 Blue Condition- 7/10 Tales of Brave Ulysses- 7/10 SWLABR- 8/10 We're Going Wrong- 8/10 Outside Woman Blues- 9/10 Take it Back- 7/10 Mother's Lament- 6/10 81/110

Very impressive, stood test of time

And the Lord said let there be psychedelic blues rock. Classic, top shelf piece of art from the strange brew that brought the blues to white people. Jack Bruce is a beast, of course all three are beasts. Extremely British. Arguably colonial in nature.

Need to listen to this one back, but it's a strong 3.5 on the first pass. The middle of the album really felt like Hendrix which isn't that surprising. Hope we get more Cream!

My second favourite song of all time is on this album - Sunshine Of Your Love. Never listened to the rest of it til now! Holy shit this album is over quickly but it's a fun ride, really varied! Ok, what the actual fuck is Mother's Lament lmao.

Power trio band at it's finest and pretty much a must have album for anyone that wants to include late 60's psychadelic blues rock in their collection.

very good, better after repeated plays!

Everyone digs “Sunshine Of Your Love,” but it’s under-appreciated tracks like the groovy “World Of Pain” and—perhaps my favorite Cream song—the absurd “SWLABR” that rise to the top of this supergroup’s sophomore album.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: World of pain, Sunshine of your love

easy listen with a few bangers

The more well known tracks are excellent, but putting those to one-side the remaining tracks were also strong. I found myself turning up the volume a couple of times. Really enjoyed this album and will add it in to my playlist.

Never thought I’d say this about something Clapton was involved in, but it’s not bad. The strengths are primarily with Baker’s drumming and Bruce’s vocals, though.

Fantastic. Awesome 1960s vibe. Songs like sunshine of your love have some of the most memorable guitar riffs.

Rediculously short album but I liked it

1. Blues inspirert, jammin. Trad rock. Kult. 2.

Worth a 4 for sunshine alone. Love this 60 classic rock

Bogs down in the middle a little but the beginning and end of the album are fire

Muy buen álbum, tenía un rico sonido de guitarra y bajo , hay varias canciones que realmente no me gustaron pero los ritmos si

Their best. Highly ranked and well produced. Hard to give less than 4.

Really good album. Enjoyed listening a lot.

Didnt have high expectations for this one, ended up having a good time with it A joyride of psychadelic rock, blues, and dead babies

World of Pain foi a que mais me surpreendeu.

I'd probably give it a 5 stars if it had white room on it.

What a classic. Found some new songs. Funky

I liked it! Pretty fucking swag if you ask me.

I've listened to this album over 50 times in high school, so no relisten necessary. The hits are obviously huge highlights, but I really enjoy most tracks aside from the joke ender, and a couple on side 1. Still a great album and I listen to a lot of these songs still. 4 Stars.

Great album.

Note: re. Eric Clapton - I am reviewing how I feel about the music not the musicians and I am aware that many on this list have had problematic behaviour/opinions I don't like but this will not affect my rating unless I notice it in the music itself. My mum had this album so I am familiar with it. It's a mixed bag - a few excellent tracks, a few okay tracks and a couple of weird ones. The good tracks and that guitar is so good, however, it pushes up my rating. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Sunshine Of Your Love (no competition) Rating: 4

Clapton es dios buen disco, rock

The cover offered a Strange Brew, but didn’t leave me in a World of Pain at all. It was a delight, like Cream in my coffee.

It was alright unfortunately couldn’t change my mood

Solid album, some bangers

I liked the grooviness, and the abstract absurd lyrics for some of the songs. … genuinely enjoyed listening to the whole thing. A few songs were kinda blah, but overall, I really enjoyed the blues sound mixed with strange psychedelic vibes! Mother’s lament was so fricken strange! But I can’t say I didn’t actually enjoy the weird humour.

First two tracks are amazing and the rest is just good. This might be a really unpopular opinion, but I prefer Cream’s debut over this.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this, but I did; I think I was anticipating more of a Beatles flavor, where this felt a bit grittier. Pretty sure “Sunshine of your Love” was used in one of the menus for Guitar Hero 3 - it’s one of those songs I’ve heard and and always enjoyed, but never placed. The album feels a little more like junk food than a meal, but we’ve all got our vices. Good music to drive to. Highlights: - Strange Brew - Sunshine of your Love - Tales of Ulysses

More like a 3.7 for me but a classic. Some great songs but not something I would put on to listen to very frequently.

Great memories from teens listening to my dads copy. Very late sixties. Great guitar and bass

Nie wiedzialem ze tu Clapton gral - samo plumkanie spoko, moge dac 3-4

Je les avait oublié, mais quel bonheur de les entendre a nouveau.

Great 4.0

Great classic album, enjoyed Sunshine of your love the most

This was a slow listen and the energy didn't match the breakout hit "Sunshine of your love"

Favourite tracks: Strange brew Sunshine of your love Tales of brave Ulysses

I’ve only heard a few songs by Cream before and was able to discover some others I liked because of this album Favorite songs: Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Outside Woman Blues

After listening to it in full, I can safely say that Cream is a great album. The guitar riffs were catchy and really fun to listen to and the vocals fit every song perfectly and on top of that, the album was the perfect length. I guess it seems that Psychedelic Rock has proven itself to me. Best Song: SWLABR Worst Song: Strange Brew

Pas mal rock a l'ancienne

Pure Psychedelia. Tales of Brave Ulysses is a favorite. Whole album was worth the listen, easily can see why it's a classic.

Brevity was key with this project. The highs weren’t as high as Derek and the dominos, but more consistent. Might be 3, but today, I’m feeling 4

sunshine of your love is definitely what shines from this album. Eric Clapton is really talented at playing guitar. we’re going wrong and outside woman blues we’re my next favorites

Funky, good vibes, with a good funky undertones. Beat heavy.

Classic rock always great fun. Love Clapton's sound.

almost got totally put off by the first track liking: sunshine of your love, world of pain, tales of brave ulysses, outside woman blues, take it back giving it a few more listens and it grows on you

There are some absolute classics on this but also one or two duds sorry guys

Short and sweet. Tales of Brave Ulysses is the stand out track on this album for me, a seminal psychedelic rock number that served as a template for decades to come. There were some other very good tracks, Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love also stood out as excellent. There was also some weird, almost comedy/ skit tracks, including the very strange Mother's Lament that closes the album. Definitely not 5 stars, probably somewhere between 3 and 4 for me, but closer to a 4 than a 3.

i felt like i was in "once upon a time in hollywood" throughly enjoyed it ngl

Solidan album više nego šta se može reć za većinu claptonove diskografije

Stylistically iconic, crazy how little you can hear cymbals on this whole album, makes the production feel so sparse.

Classic

Some incredible songs. Sounds like greatest hits album. Filler tracks are weak at the end (blues and then mother's lament). Really solid album let down by weaker tracks at the end.

Great stuff. Perfect psychedelia without being too jammy. Hendrix could have taken notes on that front. This could use a remaster. It’s pretty muddy.

Fantastisch album van een legendarische band. Clapton, een markant persoon en iconische gitarist, drukt zijn stempel op dit album. Fantastische gitaarsolo’s en een mooi afwisselend repertoire.

i mean it’s a classic for a reason. multiple great songs

Some nice high point. Low points are low. Clapton on guitar does the heavy lifting

pretty good

cool riffs some of the lyrics were wack

Fine album, sunshine of your love alone is a crazy influence on future rock

Hall Of Fame Stoner Album.

I am obviously familiar with a bunch of Cream song but I think it was the first that I listened to the whole album. Good times.

I fucking hate Eric Clapton, but I cant deny that this is a fantastic album. 4/5

Long listen, tried it in 3 sessions with some overlap. Listening by the pool with the sun shining and having a swim maybe enhanced my appreciation. I don't know that if I were working that it would have been inspiring, but probably would have been solid for a coding session.

There is some really great stuff on this record but also some stuff that I think just hasn't 'held up' over time. Clapton is relentlessly impressive, both in technical ability and in his artistic choices. The rest of the band is also great. There are some parts of this that are needlessly silly - perhaps I just didn't always get the joke? This one gets a 4 just because so much of this record has become such a part of the 'background' art of society - Strange Brew, Sunshine Of Your Love, Tales Of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR

Not terrible for 60s rock. 7.5/10.

Truth be told, I tired of Ginger Baker's drumming mid-way through the album. He's got his style, for sure, along with a reputation for being a gnarly bastard, but the constant tom-foolery (sorry for the lousy pun) got tiresome. Listening on headphones and having it panned in my right ear did not help, but I thought there would be more of a similarity to Mitch Mitchell's drumming and there just wasn't. So, beyond that, the album was good, but I'm not a Cream devotee. Vocals were strong — I was really struck by how Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) must have listened to this band a lot — and I appreciated the humor. A 3.5, but "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Brave Ulysses" and "Strange Brew" warrant the bump.

I likey

Highlights: "Sunshine of Your Love," "Dance the Night Away," "Tales of Brave Ulysses," "SWLABR" I'm pleasantly surprised by the bardic vibrato in two-part vocal harmony, namey with "Dancing". I thought that was a Bowie signature, but he would have taken cues from this. It definitely represents much of Homme's investment in psych as well, for a contemporary rock reference point of this band's extensive influence. Things like "Ulysses" and "Sunshine" are undeniably proto-Sabbath and subsequent metal, too. Hot on the heels of Hendrix for forays into a heavy new psych sound departing from both blues and boy band rock.

Genuinely loved the vibe going on here. This felt like a giant of an album.

Interesting kind of soul/rock, I like the vibes. Sunshine of your love is cool.

Classic rock. I like this.

Love the sound, Clapton is a giant twat

Great rock album. First one in awhile here i actually enjoyed

While I have respect for the album and Cream as a band, the whole thing feels a little hollow somehow. The instrumentals are killer (as to be expected), but the lyricism leaves a lot to be desired. I'm at a point where I want my music to shred, but I want it to say something meaningful more than that.

Good stuff. Appreciate some of those riffs.

In college, I really liked Eric Clapton. I read his memoir, I listened to a fair amount of his solo work, and I really wanted to get into the music that he had made as a part of different groups (Cream, The Yardbirds, Blind Faith, etc.). The furthest I made it was purchasing that 20th Century Masters greatest hits for Cream, of which I listened to "White Room," "Crossroads," and "Sunshine of Your Love." I always wanted to listen to some of their whole albums, but never got around to it. Now, I finally have no excuse not to listen to an entire Cream album. I really enjoyed listening to this, and I hate that it took me this long (this was infinitely better than Derek and The Dominoes, which I still don't think I've ever recovered from). Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and even England's best xenophobic guitarist, Eric Clapton really show off their talents here. I love that there's a good mix of vocals from both Bruce and Clapton. When he's not spewing racist garbage, Clapton really does have a voice that's enjoyable to listen to. I really enjoyed the psychedelic sounds here; "Sunshine of Your Love," "Strange Brew," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" were my favorite tracks here. Overall, this was a great album, and I'll probably listen to it again soon.

Highlights: Strange Brew, Sunshine Of Your Love, We're Going Wrong

Highlights: Strange brew, Sunshine of your love, tales of brave ulysses.

Awesome! Loved this! A LOT! Funky, rocky, chilled out casual rock n roll! Excellent stuff!

Classic stuff

Classic

The genius of Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. They managed to make this experimental, fun album despite having dull blues technical Eric Clapton (the anti-Hendrix) holding them back. Sometimes I can only imagine how great Cream could have been if they'd had a less egotistical, more creative guitarist -Jeff Beck maybe. But nonetheless, this is a cracking album. Psychedelia offered up by musicians who weren't shambolic.

Loved it!

going into this, i’m ashamed to admit, i had never actually listened to this album. the only songs i was familiar with was the radio staple “sunshine of your love” and “tales of brave ulysses”, the latter of which chicago doom metal band, trouble, covered in 1984. having said all of that, this album is a brilliant amalgam of psychedelic rock and blues. smooth vocal delivery (as well as amazing harmonies), flawless guitar work by eric clapton, bass duties held down by jack bruce, and ginger baker’s thunderous drumming tying it all together. highlights: “sunshine of your love”, “tales of brave ulysses”, “outside woman blues”.

A very good album, but not a 5 for me. I imagine this would have been really exciting to listen to when it first came out, but some of the songs sound a little silly today. At its best though we hear 3 of the best rock musicians of all time sounding way bigger together.

This was way better than I expected. I’m not sure why I’m surprised as the songs I’d already heard off it I liked. First half definitely better than the second for me, seemed to tail off a bit at times, but overall a great pyschedelic rock album which at times reminded me of Hendrix. Clear influence on Them Crooked Vultures too. Canny this.

Cool psychedelic rock punctuated by a couple of dull Beatlesy songs, though I can only really remember the baby down the plughole song now! Went by git quick which is always a good sign. Went to a brewery called strange brew by chance the same day this came up, beers were also a 4/5 I'd say, would recommend both.

Really enjoyed this album, has a great funky blues sound. Thought I had not heard any of their tracks before but immediately recognised Sunshine Of Your Love. The only blemish is the album ends on a bizarre note which sounds nothing like the rest of tracks. Highlights: Strange Brew Sunshine Of Your Love Tales Of Brave Ulysses Outside Woman Blues

The wiki says this is considered one of the greatest albums of all time.....I definitely don't agree with that. I bet it was pretty mind blowing in the 60s though. It is good, I just wanted it to go up another gear in quite a lot of tracks, turn up to 11 type thing. Strange brew and sunshine of your love were the only tracks I knew and are probably the best. The following 3 i thought were quite dull. Tales of Ulysses was more interesting and SWLABR was the best of the tracks I didn't know. I assume mothers lament was a bit of a joke. Probably would give this 3.5 if I could

Some epic songs. But some also ...

Great Clapton album

The prototypical heavy psychedelic album. Good stuff, even if Eric Clapton turned out to be a racist douchebag. Fun fact, the song Strange Brew is about a groupie who hung out with the band a lot. She was gorgeous, and always wore a bright, "electric blue" outfit, but she had the worst gas any of the band members had ever experienced. They would always say to her, "Girl, what's inside of you?" 4 stars.

Nice variety on this album. Fun guitar licks in the songs. Quite short and honestly I had trouble getting through it anyway but might have just been a day I lacked focus. Still, most of it's quality. Even the songs that aren't popular by spotify standards are good on their own merit.

Good god that slaps. “Where the blues ends and the sound got heavy.” Agreed. That last throwaway song about the death of a child feels f@$@ing eerie with Clapton playing there.

Nice short album, liked it. Only song I knew was sunshine of your love from gh, that was probably my least favorite song on the album

Throughout the late 60's there were a lot of psychedelic rock acts. Some were good and some were bad, but the popularity of the genre was undeniable. As such, I think it pertinent to carefully select which psychedelic rock albums will make the list. This is absolutely a correct choice. Alongside Jimi Hendrix, Cream's music would help sculpt the sound of hard rock for the 70's. While we would see more of that on their followup Wheels of Fire, Disraeli Gears' sound is still undeniable. Clapton's slick riffs, Baker's driving drums, and Bruce's vocal personality make for an iconic trio. I've been told the mono mix sounds better than the standard, though the stereo mix sounded just fine in my opinion. No matter the mix, you'll want to listen to this all the way through. Excellent closer track too.

Very uneven. Wheels Of Fire is their 5 star classic

Classic. Possibly the last good thing Clapton did.

Strange brew, overall very modern sound

Hippien metkuja. Toimii kyllä! Cläpä on kyllä vanhentunut aika huru-ukoksi mutta eihän se tähän vaikuta. Ei turhia kappaleita. 4/5

Another classic album. These guys really made the blueprint for psychedelic rock in the 60s and 70s

Not really my thing but like every song is pretty catchy and the album has a unique sound.

Neat album, pretty psychedelic and bluesy. Some really good tracks in here, a few that just felt like nothing more than filler, and one or two just bizarre tracks. I think it could have been a five but that very odd final track just kind of ruined it. Still a very good album though, right up my alley. Favourite: Sunshine of Your Love

Cream is one of those bands that do not get enough attention. Sure, everyone knows Sunshine of your Love, White Room and maybe Tales of Brave Ulysses, but thats about where it ends for most. The album reminded me of Queens of the Stone Age -- as in, QOTSA has some similar sounds which makes you think, they must be inspired a little by Cream too. Top banger of the album for me is Strange Brew

They are definitely groovy. I think they were influenced by blues. I like the folksy joke song at the end. Every song is really great I liked it.

Enjoyable. Liked the blend of classic blues and hazy psychedelia, the recording was a bit rubbish but it would've been a lot worse if it were the Eric Clapton show.

Clapton's kind of a racist dickwad but it does hold up

Cream - Sunshine of Your Love => sampled by => Comunidade Nin-Jitsu - Merda de Bar

4, belle creme

Is the band related to the magazine?

This is great heavy-ish psychedelia - I didn't think I knew any Cream, but a couple of tracks turned out to be very familiar. ("Mother's Lament" used to be a campfire song back when I was in the cub scouts!) I think with more familiarity this coulda been a 5. Fave track - "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" are both monster tracks - great stuff!

I was only familiar with the 2 big hits but most of the other songs are great, with similar style to the hits. 2 songs seem out of place; if they were left off I'd rate a 5.

played Sunshine of Your Love in band a million times, nice to see how it fits in with the rest of the album.

I would have rated this album a 3 but the skill of these musicians just shines through. I loved the drums. Hearing Eric's guitars sounds to me like listening to one of the pioneers of later rock ... which of course it is.

Such a fantastic sophomore effort. It’s clear Eric Clapton has always been a virtuoso guitar player. There are some riffs on here, outside the obvious one, that should be iconic. Great overall album. A height for ‘60s rock.

Classic, classic rock. 4/5

Nice album, but the vocal parts of some songs were a little too experimental. I could listen all day to the blues songs with Clapton doing his magic.

Psychedelic, bluesy, proto-hard rock. Not counting the obvious joke Mother’s Lament there are three songs that are kinda meh and the other seven are perfect.

When it comes to blues guitar you can't really go wrong with Eric Clapton even tho I do have to say I'm not a big fan of the guitar tone on this one

Great guitar tone, some absolute classics and an overal nice 60s vibe

Really liked it. Easy listening, good for work/not too distracting

Great musicianship. Some of the most iconic psychedelic rock songs. Great album.

Dit was behoorlijk goed zeg!

The first four songs were really good and caught me by surprise. The rest of the album was alright, but not as good as these beginning songs. Still, I liked this album more than I thought I might. My favourite songs were Sunshine Of Your Love, Strange Brew, and World of Pain.

I am familiar with Cream's hits, but never delved into their back catalog, so I am looking forward to this listen. I immediately recognize Sunshine of Your Love and Strange Brew. This is some fantastic psychadelic rock, and Eric Clapton's guitar playing is phenomenal. The bass groove in Strange Brew is awesome. There are some "out there" lyrics throughout, especially in the song SWLABR (got that rainbow feel, but the rainbow has a beard) Both the album cover, and the strange lyrics tell a tale of psychadelic drug use. Overall, a great album! Glad I listened. Favourite songs: Take It Back, SWLABR, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Outside Woman Blues Least favourite songs: We're Going Wrong, Blue Condition, Dance the Night Away (in certain songs, they employ a mournful wailing lyric delivery which I find irritating) 4/5

Cream is one of the groups from the 60s that mixed electric with lyrics very well. This album in particular had lovely well known songs that are still in playlists today

I know praising Clapton is not the vibe, but I’ll hear no bashing of Cream. This is damn-near perfect hard rock, with each member bringing their all. Even the weird tracks like “Mother’s Lament” are lowkey bangers. A-

Pretty good album, enjoyed the psychedelic guitar riffs and lyrics

Kinda liked this album

Point off for Clapton being Clapton, but this is a classic.

What you get when you mix three of the best musicians* with their respective instruments together, and throw in a whole lot of drugs. That is to say, a rock/blues classic. * I’m trying to write this without passing judgement on Clapton as a person.

Disraeli Gears has some very epic and timeless examples of psychedelic rock nestled within its tracks. Also included toward the end of the album is some heavier blues rock, and even what seems to amount to a sea shanty. The blues rock sound was not a surprise, as Clapton would eventually become pretty well known for this sound. That said, I'm glad this album was heavier on the psychedelia (without letting it overrun the album) and lighter on the blues, but honestly it could have been even lighter on the blues for me. Cream clearly found success in a certain sound, as the song Tales of Brave Ulysses and White Room (not on this album) have almost the exact same chord progression. Both of these would become two of their greater hits. When this album slaps for me, it REALLY slaps, so while the rating probably falls somewhere between a 3.5 to 4, I'm going to go ahead and bump it to a 4.

Dit is top, claptonhype

This is pretty tight. Not as good as their live jams but still groovy

Undoubtedly influential, but not necessarily an incredible album. I enjoyed the somewhat minimalist, psychedelic rock sound, and the peaks when they would go harder than usual. Those moments were few and far in between though, since most of this record was unfortunately so-so and to be honest, a bit lazy sounding. That said, the peaks are real peaks and you can't deny the influence. Loved tracks like Sunshine of your Love (obviously) World of Pain, SWLABR, and Outside Woman Blues. On a slightly related note, shame that the last surviving member of this trio went on to become an anti-vaxxer while playing cat and mouse with COVID-19. Eew.

Classic classic rock album

Here's a big one! Knew this would be on here, just a matter of time. Excellent entry right at the juncture of "heavy metal" as it was once called and psych rock. These guys had hard rock riffs and most likely a lot of drugs. "Sunshine of Your Love" is a Guitar Hero staple, and it's also just a hell of a jam. That's how I'd describe the whole album, a hell of a jam. Clapton may have become a real dork but he was involved in something great here. Also special shout out to "Mother's Lament" for sounding like some lads stumbling home from a pub in the middle of the night, love that feel. Favorite tracks: Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses, We're Going Wrong, Mother's Lament. Album cover: Absolutely adore the color on display. Perfectly psychedelic to match the music. Just so vibrant and detailed, I can't look away. 4.5/5

This album shows how versatile the guitar can be. It’s not always in the forefront, but when it is, it soars. It plays off the bass so well to create just enough dissonance to notice that they’re playing two separate, beautifully melded lines. It’s always easy to hear the contributions of each, individual instrument, something that can be quite difficult when instruments are electrified. While I found some of the vocal performances lacking, overall, it’s a beautiful album. Standout songs are SWLABR and The Tales of Brave Ulysses. Also a shoutout to Sunshine of Your Love for being incredible, but I prefer the other two.

A nice listening. The song I liked the most is Dance the night away. Some songs didn't catch me that much but I liked the album.

Great album! Some really nice 60's psych rock that is very clearly influential in that music sceene. Reminds me of bands like 13th floor elevator and Quicksilver messenger service. Right up my ally. My favoytite tracks after the first listen through are Strange Brew, SWLABR, and Tales Of Brave Ulysses. Id give it a 7/10

Cream is probably my favorite group Clapton was in. But for Jack Bruce, I felt it held him back. Clapton needed the other bandmates, but they really didn't need him. Their solo output could develop well. And yet HIS is the name people know. Go figure. The biggest problem with Cream is their sound. If they had a better producer, their sound could have developed more. When you listen to "Strange Brew" or "Sunshine Of Your Love," the music is really stuck in the time. Whereas Zeppelin's music really transcends the 70s. I always wonder if they got Jimmy Page or someone as good as a producer what Cream's sound would have been. Songs like "World Of Pain" and "Strange Brew," the guitar, bass and drums are struggling to be in the foreground. It makes it difficult to imagine what they were like live until we got the live albums, whrre they took some of these pieces and stretched them out a good 10 minutes long. Even with their most well-known song on here, this is still not where they peak for me. It had to be "Wheels of Fire" they really go for a lot of range in that album. Here, there is also a lot of imagery in the lyrics with little meaning. "SWLABR," for example, or "She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow." ........ WTH is that all about? I have heard that song a number of times and I still don't know. And that last song "Mother's Lament" could have been completely taken off. Funny only gets you so far. So as much as I love the band, it is not their best. So 4 stars from me.

Tough one. You totally hear the influence and mastery of psychedelic rock in this album right away in Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love, but also in those two's b-sides - Tales of Brave Ulysses and SWLABR. Those are 4 incredible tracks, the latter two just as good as the former big hits. Heavy is a good word to describe them - full of sound, especially a bluesy overlay. Outside Woman Blues and Take it Back also have a great blues sound. After that I'm a bit split on the rest. We're Going Wrong feels like a slow trudge, but I guess still psychedelic. World of Pain and Dance the Night Away aren't bad but I think they're better when following the first two hits than listening to them on their own. Ginger Baker should not be allowed to sing - Blue Condition is tough to listen to (almost downright awful) and Mother's Lament is just so weird. The latter I'm actually intrigued by and don't totally mind because it sounds like they're taking the piss out of someone or thing - I just wish I knew more about the context.

Great album! Love the music. This is the first time I've felt like an audiophile snob, but the mix sucks. There's no bass to speak of. Sounds weird and flat.

Classic rock which dips into some bluesy stuff, cream is fun. Sunshine of your Love is such a quintessential riffy rock song. Mother's Lament gave me a smile.

Solid listen, very up my street.

Didn’t listen to the whole thing- little long but some goodies

great sound, solos, etc. favorite songs: sunshine of your love world of pain take it back least favorite: blue condition

похоже на Боуи

There are some great songs in here

Very good songs and perfectly executed.

Just some good old blues, Clapton is pretty good. The song in the British voices was funny

A clear classic! It's still not my own favorite, but I get this one.

I definitely liked this more than I thought that I would. The first few tracks had me loving the album, then it calmed a bit, but I still really enjoyed it all!

Love the funk so far. Gives me good vibes, would love to listen for an occasional bake session. Kind of makes me want to dance. Love the main vocalists.

Loved it. Sounds a bit trite to old ears

Great collection of songs! “Strange Brew” is of course outstanding!

Disraeli rocks. Some of the best 60s psychedelic rock I've heard so far and that's a big compliment because Jesus Christ, there's a lot of that on this list. "Sunshine Of Your Love" is an undisputed classic, same with "Strange Brew". The second half is a bit weaker and "Mother's Lament" is completely pointless, but still a very solid record over all. Obligatory "Fuck Eric Clapton" though.

So, the album is fairly funky so far. Surprised, solely because I didn’t realize it would sound like this (I am basing my knowledge of Cream on one of their songs). I recognize Sunshine Of Your Love, but had no idea this was the title of it or a song of Cream’s.

Listened in the past, not on this challenge

Awesome, some good hardrock classics. So much excellent music in the late sixties, it all kind of runs together.

This rocks!

Barreja màgica de rock, blues, psicodèlia... Per part de tres mestres de la música i en un dels contextes històrics ideals. Triomf assegurat. Temes com 'Strange Brew', 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', 'Sunshine of Your Love'... són tan bons que és difícil de creure. Molt molt a prop de les 5 estrelles

Une franche réussite

je pensais mettre un 4 et je mets un 4

I thought it was a great album just not my favourite genre. I thoroughly enjoyed at least 5 songs! But it was a good listen straight through.

What a distinctive guitar tone these guys have. I could only term it ‘plastic guitar’ superlatively overdriven smooth blues. Most of the songs on this album can be taken as seriously good tracks apart from the final track (mothers lament), which did make me laugh, as I remember being sing it as a kid. Though the guitars are wonderful, I find the vocals a bit weak and characterless though. Still a very good album though.

Lisergico, bello

Peak Cream, I think, unless you prefer the bluesier stuff to the psychedelic, which I definitely don’t. Another one I knew pretty well note for note, despite not having listened to it for years. In my youth I owned it, one of my beloved cheap department store cassettes, and played it a ton. It actually holds up pretty well, although like a lot of this era a lot of the lyrical sensibility comes of as an odd mix of mawkish and ostentatious.

Such a fantastic album that really showcases how music went from short pop songs to more instrument focused jam songs

guitar last song what

Best thing Clapton did

First wave rock classic right here. Strong album all the way through. Sunshine, Strange Brew, Tales of Ulysses. Beauty.

It's challenging my attention span to listen to a whole album, so I'm glad I'm doing this. Only heard the two singles from this one, real fun album. I like the the British blues thing when it's mixed with psychedelic and even a little Beatles or Kinks-sounding stuff. Fun record to travel through Kansas with. Added a nice trippy vibe.

4/5. Nice n psychedelic rock music. Earned it’s rep

Some amazing stuff and some that isn't as great, but fun all the way through.

já conhecia o sunshine of your love, Classico cheio de memories de pequeno em palco. gostei, 7/10

Very good, of perhaps a bit self indulgent at points. Works well as a full album, with sunshine of your love and strange brew as clear stand out tracks.

Interesting and pleasant listen.

Very good

Overlooking for a moment the fact that Eric Clapton is an absolute shit stain of a human (so is Morrissey, and I love the Smiths), this is a classic album and it is not just ANY rock album. It straight up SHREDS. I don't usually love straight-hitting, 4/4 rock, but there's just enough creativity and killer guitar licks in this collection to elevate the experience. Every few measures there's something unpredictable to keep your ear on the hook. And compositionally, they know what works and continue the part that you keep anticipating. Take, for instance, the famous opening lick in "Sunshine of Your Love". That's the kind of sound that serves the purpose of a hook in a rap song: it's the part that cements the entire song structure in your head. It's the crazy glue, the mortar that holds the bricks of composition together. Considering the album was SO fucking long (I opted for the deluxe), it mostly didn't lose my interest which says a lot. A strong four stars. I'd say five but there are a few skips on here for me.

Really good album, a revisit for sure!

While definitely a landmark album, I’ve just never been a big fan. Strange Brew, Sunshine, ToBU are all great examples of the style I guess but I could take or leave them. But for the mark on rock and roll, a 4.

7/10 but I wouldnt go back to most of this album

There were just a few odd ones in here that felt off thematically with the other instrumental. But sunshine of your love is one of the best songs ever

Supergroup, good album, average title, poor last track.

I liked it

Vinyle

I was prepared to dismiss this album as aelf-indulgent over-rared shifted, but it's not. ( ok maybe We're Going Wrong is that, but...). Most of the deep cuts are pretty damn good; World of Pain, Dance The Night Away and Blue Condition which has an almost indie-rock feel are three fine songs that make up the middle section. All the songs are short so they don't wear out their welcome. I really enjoyed this albu, much more than I thought I would. 4.5 🌟

Classic psych rock that feels timeless. Sunshine of Your Love is just an all-time great song. Clapton is a major POS but his guitarwork here is legendary.

Классный блюз-рок

Good album, with the sound of the 60's. I really enjoy this album. Sometimes a little bit linear but in general great.

Would have got 4.5 if I was allowed. Tales of Brave Ulysses is amazing.

Plenty groovy but doesn't rock as hard as I remember.

Amazing 60s rock album

Really should be a 4.5 stars. Some of the best Brit Rock songs done in the late 60s.

Had only heard 'Sunshine of Your Love' before this album. I enjoyed the different styles of song.

I like this album a lot but always felt it was sort of two separate albums in one. One is a really good blue album, the other is a really good psychedelic album. Somehow it works together, but it's not perfect.

Like, sunshine of your love is omniscient but I’ve never heard the full album, this was good!

Some good old-fashioned 60s psychedelic rock. Eric Clapton sounds amazing.

Not the first time I've listened to this album, but it's not one I'd revisit by myself. It's good, but I don't think it's as good as it's made out to be. In particular, too many of the tracks just don't sound like they're going anywhere. Being a showcase for instrumental talent is just not enough when songwriting is this loose. Also I generally prefer the bluesy side of Eric Clapton over his psychedelic rock side. All of that said, it's still a good album.

Really good, with some awesome songs. I really love the Tale of Brave Ulysses, and the album has a very consistent flow and theme.

The mono mix is probably better. 3.5

This album is an old friend. Cream was a 60s super group that produced some great music. Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses, and Sunshine of Your Love were big hits and are standouts on the album. There's a lot of good music here,

A great album to vibe to. Sunshine of Your Love is a true banger and is bolstered by a solid album.

Pues por 1o2 rolas nomás

Great Songs liked the vibe a lot

'Sunshine of Your Love' is such an incredible song, but the rest of this album is well worth a listen. Clapton's guitar work is legendary.

Who let Eric Clapton sing? Who let Ginger Baker sing?? There's some proper ballast filling this out, but the best stuff - 'Strange Brew', 'SWLABR', 'Sunshine...' - is simply immense. Anyway, happy new year and fuck that racist dickhead Clapton.

Ginger Baker = GOAT Eric Clapton = GOD Jack Bruce = DADDY

Great album. Not quite a 5 star album for me bit it's still a total blast. Bonus points for being just a little over 30 minutes. I like records that don't plod on.

Really good album. Great guitar work. Good writing.

Predivan album i sve vezano za njega

Another psychedelic romp, powered by great writing and guitar. Don't forget "Tales of Brave Ulysses"

8/10. I didn’t love all of this and the vocals were weak at times, but overall a great psychedelic album w some standout tracks

I like the well-known songs but the rest is kinda boring. 7/10

Like it but don’t love it. Good but not great. Can be spoken of in the same conversation as The Beatles and Hendrix but not quite up to that standard

No geral um bom álbum, muito típico da época. O álbum começa bem e mantém se bom durante toda sua sequência sendo que as músicas finais fraquejam um bocado. Nota:7/10

Fresh at the time; still fresh today

I was ready to give this 5 stars after the first three songs, but as the album went on a few of them let me down. What a classic, defining sound though!

This may be the only band I actually like that Eric Clapton was in. And that is mostly due to the rhythm section if Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.

I always thought "Sunshine Of Your Love" was a Hendrix jam, but after reading that Cream went to a Hendrix show and they came up with the song after... it makes sense. It's a bit hard for me to separate Eric Clapton, who I used to like a lot when I was younger, from the music. Between Clapton's "Keep Britain White" outburst and his most recent anti-lockdown songs (yes plural) "Stand and Deliver" and "This Has Gotta Stop" ... really? Hard to even utter anything positive. Objectively, this is a good album and one of Cream's best.

A terrific album with awesome sound. It provided a really interesting atmosphere and its definitely worth a relisten.

3.5, one great song, a couple of good songs and loads of good blues guitar.

Awesome! Need more dope Clapton rifts and more songs

I like Cream. The two firsts songs are the bests.

Bad ass rock blues album. Clapton has a very distinct tone, and I dig it. The album is a bit repetitive though.

Some “same soundy” songs compared to other albums and even songs on the same album, but the songs are really good

Two fantastic tracks ; Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love. I love Cream but even so I can only give 4*

Pretty good psychedelia. I like the witch rock elements especially.

very bluesy rock, a prototype for loads of 90s garage bands. really enjoyed it

Recognized songs: Sunshine of you love

Three musical virtuosos in one band, tearing it up. Ginger Baker particularly shines, and it's hard to deny the brilliance of a young Eric Clapton here. Incredible album.

Strong start, strange ending. LIked about 5/10 so cant rate as highly as id like to. i want to put 3.75 but im rounding up

Another great classic rock album, you can't get much better than this.

Psychedelic Rock for the ages

solid classic rock joint. not life-altering but super enjoyable!

I recognised some songs from this! Shout out to Sunshine of your Love

Great album

sunshine of your love is a classic

Great classic album.

absolutely loved it. great psychedelic tunes on this one!!!!!

First half was siiiick

pretty good

Sunshine of your love é a melhor. Strange Brew e Take it back são boas também

One of the original "super groups" that really flexes their musicianship across this album. Everything is on point, and it is easy to see why they made such an impact.

Oh wow. I thought Cream only had one album that was called Cream. It turns out that was "Best of Cream." Anyways, this album has a lot of songs from that best of, which suggests it is one of their best albums. The best of really picked the best songs off this album. The classics like sunshine, brave ulysses, and SWLABR make this album a legend. There are a few songs that keep this one from being 5 stars. Blue condition, written by the drummer, is just bad. They must have given this to the drummer to make him happy. Jeesh it is a stinker. we're going wrong is also terrible. It should have just been a drum solo. Oversinging is what it sounds like. The drums are the only standout on that song. Definitely give the whole album a listen, then get the best of.

Great example of 60s British blues explosion meets late 60s psychedelia. Great musicians. Half the album is Must Hear. A few fillers!

Solid rock album with a handful of great tunes (barring the album closer). Best track: Sunshine of Your Love

Nice have some of the songs liked

Brilliant Album! Very tasteful elements in the songs and timbre of the instruments/vocals. Everything is quite balanced and it feels really pleasant for me.

Strong start to the record

SWLABR is a banger

Het album klinkt minder chaotisch dan de hoes, en dat is een goed ding! Heb van dit album genoten, en zou het wel nog eens willen beluisteren.

not as good as when i was 15. felt very dated, but i remembered why i loved Cream. loads of wah, heavy drumming, and jack bruces psychadelic lyrics. it's got to be one of the best examples of mid/late 60 hard rock

Lots of 5s on this album. It feels like I’m waking with wine/drug hangover in a plush-paisley covered British mansion converted into an artists commune. The music songs to me like the bong smoking caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, self assured, ironic and a little fucked up. Clapton kills it with the crazy wawa psych distorted killer riffs. Ginger baker is just banging around on the drums, getting ginger-tribal, heroine making him a stiff armed and a bit loose with the beat. Pretty great album, really nailed down psych and set the stage for garage and metal. But some of the songs feel a bit loose, one sounds like the proto version of white room. I’m so close to a 5, but I’m giving it a 4.

I thought this was an incredibly fun album and I want to go back and listen to it again (so a 4 star by my scale). Good music, good messages, good album.

Great album! Wish there was a .5 option, because I would rate it 4.5, but I'm rounding down here. Also -i rated Springsteens "Born to Run" album a three before I figured out "comments first, stars second". That album probably a 3.5+, but my college roomate played it about 2042 times, so...

Sue says her baby-sitter used to play this record for her. It's hard to just listen to it, without factoring in who the band members were, what they went on to become, and the influence this music had on the stuff that followed. It's at the crossroads of blues rock, psychedelic rock and hard rock. Letting Ginger Baker sing wasn't the greatest idea the ever had.

Love me some cream.

Iconic 60s psychodelic rock.. Several very recognizable tracks like Sunshine Of Your Love.

Best Cream album.

Brilliant guitar. Blues is lit.

They 're good moments are very good, but feel there's too much filler in their work.

Pretty decent Beatles-esque psychedelic rock.

Sunshine of your love is just iconic

Good album. A few standouts and a bunch of kind of “generic” psych-rock songs (that were probably no generic at all at the time).

Mother's Lament might be the best song ever.

good- listened to it half while cooking a steak / half right before bed
