Clapton
Great riffage and poppier overall than I expected. Will revisit with more time.
Great era. Solid music
Where's the opium den? Good jams, mellow mood.
I really enjoyed listening to this album. Including the strange brew, sunshine of your love, tales of brave ulysses. No overall theme, but contains good lyrics and great guitar playing.
amazing perfect legendary....
🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Okay, sorry, I've heard and dismissed "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love" at many a dad jam—I don't know how to articulate this, exactly, but a lot of 60s rockers like Cream, The Who, or even, dare I say, The Doors are missing a certain... I don't know... dare I say whimsy? Dare I say feminine influence? That I think someone like, dare I say, Jimi Hendrix really is able to capture. Not everyone needs to be flouncing flower children or anything, but it's just a little swirl of whimsy that needs to be whisked in there (yes, I know Jim Morrison is that swirl, but for some reason it doesn't always take). This theory is very much undercooked and I think it needs just a twinge more time in the oven, but whatever it is, Cream just has a characteristic flatness to it that I find in a lot of classic rock. THAT SAID: "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love" were, unexpectedly, the second-place highlights of this one by a long shot. They're really solid, and I'd listen to them more were they not so overplayed. I found the rest of the album to be fun but sort of forgettable, with the vast exception of the last song. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! THAT'S the kind of british I want! 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities) | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing
I got nothin'
Bluesy and dankly psychedelic
Sometimes I don't want to listen to folk rock
It was alright. There are a few tracks I like, but the album as a whole is just alright.
Helt ok. Sunshine of your love och Tales of Brave Ulysses var bäst. Bra musiker förstås men i längden lite tråkig.
It was fine. Good psychedelic rock with probably 3 all time classic rock bangers. Record is uneven outside of the hits.
I kind of got lost in it. Really enjoyable but I don't remember too much
After the opening two tracks thought I was going to love this, ended up just kind of liking it. The rest of the album ranges from decent to mediorce to the outright bizarre. Probably will listen again at some point.
It's fine. Perfectly pleasant to listen to but doesn't really reach out and grab me.
Funky 60s jam pretty stripped back guitar at some points
Yea I mean sunshine of your love is an all time song. So tuff. Strange brew was enjoyable too. Dance the night away really cool guitar work. Clapton lol. Listening to more of it I don’t really feel much, some cool fills by ginger baker, and some great riffs for sure. The melody’s and vox kinda buns tho ngl. Outside woman blues fire. Overall a 3, massively carried by sunshine of your love
Fine album for a wee jog, with a few standout tracks. Favourite track: Sunshine of your Love
I was very disappointed in this album. Really thought I would like it more. I have never really liked Sunshine of Your Love and found most of the songs pretty boring and unforgettable. It’s always a letdown to me when an album starts with its best track. Strange Brew is the only song I really like a lot from this.
I’ve never been much of a Cream fan, but I will say this: Cream is about the only time Eric Clapton’s playing has been interesting to me. 6/10
I know everyone likes to shit on Eric Clapton for being a boring hack, but I thought this was mostly fine. A lot more interesting than the Derek and the Dominos album on this list.
I don’t really like this album’s approach to psychedelia. Something about it feels a bit forced. The playing is good obviously but I can’t really get behind the songs.
Late 60s physcedelic guitar rock. Bit boring, 3 stars.
this was fine but i can never get behind the sunshine of your love obsession i am so entirely ambivalent towards that song no matter how hard i try
A good album. Not one I think I would have chosen to listen to necessarily. Unlike the Doors album, this is much more nuanced. If there were half marks I would rate it 3.5 stars, but due to the constraints I will have to mark it as a 3, as I don't believe it to be a 4.
One of the cooler aspects of this 1001 albums thing is that I get to discover the original context in which famous songs I already know were first released into the world. I think most people know the song "sunshine of your love," and I think it mostly deserves It's fame, but I never could've told you the name of the band or anything like that. Like I said in our group chat, I think the whimsical lyrics and energy can be just as much a feature of British Pop as it is a sign of laziness in songwriting at the time. Obviously the 60s and 70s were immensely good decades for music, and pretty much every album we've heard from the time, including this one, display is very quality instrumentation and good music. I was not particularly impressed with the singing or the lyrics.
We listened to this album, but I don’t remember anything about it. I think I liked it? But honestly the fact that I can’t remember anything about it says loads.
Everything felt very samey here. Just... And the same effects on the guitar all the way through, the songs all sounded the same... We all know Eric can wail.
i've heard sunshine of your love before so it's nice to place it with an artist. they give me beatles meets led zeppelin vibes meets david bowie. very bouncy guitars and easy vibes. a smooth listen.
All these 60s blues rockers (Yardbirds, John Mayall, this lot) might’ve had some kind of aura about them at the time, like they were doing important work (barf!) compared with the pop groups, but the passage of time meant that by the time I was hearing it, that magic dust had settled. That’s not today btw, I probably first heard Cream about 25 years ago, but it matters not since my point is that I like to take all these albums on at face value as much as I can. They get a bit psyche, some also say jazz but I wasn’t hearing it, and there are some decent songs. No need to mention Clapton’s and Ginger’s reputation (to clarify I’m talking about musical reputations not them being a set of bastards) and Jack Bruce delivers some quality material but no matter the talent involved, I’m simply not gripped/awed like I am listening to Hendrix. It’s a good 60s rock album (apart from the “hilarious” closer) which I could easily listen to again but certainly don’t think it’s anywhere near the classic it’s often held up as. Although I’ve picked up quite a few bargain Cream albums over the years, I won’t be in a rush to fill in the Disraeli Gears gap.
...
decent, not super memorable
Dis what 🤨🔥
7.5 / 10
Not bad. Little samey from time to time but good vibes Favorite song: sunshine of your love
Well, it’s Cream. Everyone knows this record. It blew my mind when I was 12ish. Now, there’s some tasty guitar obv but overall it’s not standing the test of time really. The type of record which sets the mood at the time, but now so many people have done it that it feels old.
Not bad; Sunshine of Your Love is the big one.
3.5
Semi-psychedelic classic Clapton; exactly what you’d expect.
Cream's foray into true psychedelic music; Sunshine of Your Love was a killer track, but the rest of the album stands on its own;
3.5
Very vibey
nothing that really stood out to me, but definitely not a bad album
I can tell that all musicians are excellent (of course since they’re Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton), but it’s not my thing. It sounds very dated and I’d need to be in the right mood to listen to it.
Hmm so-so
Aight
Nice, but not super memorable for me.
Cool to see that this is the album that brought us sunshine love a song. You will definitely hear on a classic rock station, and I was able to walk away with a couple new songs from cream that I didn’t know about, but nothing that pushed the needle to make it super super memorable so decent listening experience short album let’s keep it pushing three out of five
Hurt my ears Best Song: Sunshine of Your Love Rating: 5.5/10 Stars: 3
Really good highlights. Some stuff I just won’t ever come back to
Fair
Overraskende flat produksjon.. lite trøkk i bassen. Clapton spiller kult.
Obligatory fuck Eric Clapton I like the hits from this album a great deal. Just good psychedelic rock. Sunshine of Your Love has aged remarkably well for a very "hippy" song.
This one grew on me a decent bit the second listen. Sunshine of Your Love is the iconic track and theres some other great guitar riffs throughout. Decent amount of variety in the songs as well. Rating: 3.2
Ever since I've been involved in music nerd spaces, I've been hearing that Eric Clapton is some sort of guitar god. After hearing this, I honestly don't see it. He's certainly talented, and there are a few standout moments, like the arpeggios on Dance the Night Away and the hypnotic wah-wahs on Tales of Brave Ulysses, but for the most part it sounded like enjoyable but fairly standard blues guitar to me. I was honestly more impressed with the drumming. "Enjoyable but fairly standard" is a good way to describe the album as a whole. It doesn't hit as hard as other blues rock I've heard, but it doesn't achieve the same lush atmosphere as other psych rock I've heard. Some of the slower cuts, like Blue Condition or We're Going Wrong, failed to make any impression on me whatsoever. I enjoyed the lyrics for the most part, which leaned into surrealism while still maintaining some grounding in the loneliness of blues. This is solid, but compared to other 60s blues-psych like Jimi Hendrix, I'd hardly call it essential.
Ik herinner het me niet meer echt.
Aangenaam maar forgetable
well of course spotify I'll take White Room after listening to this album. Doesn't belong to this album but the album itself is good too, but not on white room level.
Sunshine of Your Love is all I really got time for.
Kinda cutesy, kinda bluesy, kinda three different albums in one
Listened to a lot of Cream as a child. SOYL is still good but I can leave the rest.
Wow- tired of 60’s psychedelia. Oh and Clapton. Joy. Maybe now I will understand why he’s a guitar superhero? No. No such luck. I am beginning to believe the Clapton guitar master is a mythology manufactured by British recording studio executives. Because between this and 467 Ocean Blvd I have seen little evidence of anything that blows me away. Just saying. Not that I am some guitar hero myself. But… I generally really get into drums. And the drums on this DO stand out. On further investigation I must admit that the drumming and the mix are pretty exceptional. Revolutionary. But the rest? Yeah. So 3. Because of the drums. Boolean: yes, damn it yes, I guess it’s good to have heard all this dang psychedelia to, you know, know. But now that I do, don’t need to again.
7/10 - Only 2 songs *really* grabbed me. Probs would enjoy this more if I spent more time with it. I do enjoy more at each listen Fav Tracks: Sunshine Of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses Heard before? ---–- ✅ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ❌ Will Listen Again? -- ❌ Album Cover ------- Might vinyl just for the wall
My dad told me this was a glam rock album, so I wasn't expecting this more psychedelic mood at all. Sunshine of your love and Strange brew were good openers, but can't say I was very impressed by anything else
The singles were all good, the rest were some standard English blues rock. Ginger's drumming throughout was top notch, though. 3.5/5
Good but not great. I could see what they were going for here, however much like most stoner rock, it feels as if this would be best experienced under certain influences so to speak. Many of the songs blended in with one another, meaning that there's not a whole lot of memorability, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it because I was impressed by a lot of the guitar work from Clapton. Favourite track: Sunshine Of Your Love Least favourite track: Mother's Lament
Some boring blues, some boring psychedelia, some interesting blend of the two.
Hippieh Rock? ‚Sunshine of our love‘ ist ziemlich nice - woher kenne ich dieses Riff?
Sunshine of my love apparently
not bad
Cream nepatrí medzi moje najobľúbenejšie kapely 60.tych rokov.
Strange Brew - 3.5/5 Sunshine of Your Love - 5/5 World of Pain - 3.5/5 Dance the Night Away - 3.5/5 Blue Condition - 3/5 Tales of Brave Ulysses - 3/5 SWLABR - 3/5 We're Going Wrong - 3.5/5 Outside Woman Blues - 3/5 Take it Back - 3.5/5 Mother's Lament - 2.5/5 So I had high hopes going into this album because Sunshine of Your Love is an amazing song and I though that the rest of the album would be as great as it. Unfortunately, I remembered that Eric Clapton is a part of this so naturally all the other tracks blended together into a bluesy-rock mush. Overall: 3/5 Favorites: Sunshine of Your Love
Not really my kind of thing but it was a decent slice of blues rock, with accomplished musicians, and one obvious standout classic.
I know and like the first 2 songs on this album - "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of my Love" - but for some reason never got around to "liking" them on Spotify. I am familiar with these since they were played on Classic Rock radio a lot when I was a kid. But I've never listened to the whole album. Oh yeah, I remember "Tales of Brave Ulysses" also. It's pretty good. I thought the guitars on "Dance the Night Away" had a really interesting sound. Wikipedia says they used 12 string guitars inspired by The Byrds. Good job getting away from the pure blues sound.. "We're Going Wrong" - I liked this, had a good vibe - more atmospheric than any of the other songs. "Sunshine of Your Love" is definitely the best song on this album, no wonder it has the most streams by far - almost 6 times more than "Strange Brew". The voice on "Blue Condition" had a sort of Ray Davies (of the Kinks) sound to it. But most Kinks songs are much better than this one. "SWLABR" - has a mostly cool sound but the lyrics are just too dumb to make me want to listen to this - "rainbow has a beard", "picture has a mustache". I never understood the literal worship of Eric Clapton - back in the 70s you would occasionally see "Clapton is god" spray painted in various places - or at least in the NYC area where I grew up. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is so much better at guitar and overall Zep songs and vocals and lyrics are so much better than anything on this album. Both came from the Yardbirds - Led Zeppelin got the better end of that deal. Even for the songs I that I do like on this one - I like pretty much any Led Zeppelin song more than these ones. These are all just OK to me. Anyway, I rediscovered some forgotten songs and found a couple of deep cuts that are decent. Liked songs on Spotify: 5/11 Rating: 3/5
It's fine. No, really I like it. 3/5
3.3
This album sounds just like its cover looks. Also, what the hell is Mads Mikkelson doing in the cover?? Other than that it was okay.
This record misses a certain something. An "Oomph" that makes the songs hit. It feels like the musicians are just kinda holding back in some strange way? It is not bad per se, but it doesn't excite me. Also apparently Eric Clapton is a dick. So that sucks.
Didn't love it. I understand Eric Clapton is a phenomenal guitarist, but this doesn't stand up with other classic albums fromt that time for me
Solid late 60s hard rock / Clapton. 3.75
Best Track - "Sunshine Of Your Love"
Nie podobał mi się ton gitary
It was fine? Didn't hate it, didn't capture my attention
Not bad but these guys are tweakers
Pretty solid but nothing mind blowing
Oh cmon give me something good thats not boring for once This is the most 3 star worthy 3 star album im ever going to give in the history of 3 star albums. There were a few good songs on here and the rest i could fall asleep to Your grandmas favorite album
its a album to listen to under the influence of drugs and psychedelics. its very repetitive and regulating and its main instrument is guitar and bass . it’s definitely some white people music and it’s what bob Marley is to us to them
It's a great album, just not really "for me."
Solid album. I can hear alot of modern rock influences in this album
Its pretty cute, and funny, and quirky
Two songs that I know and like are on here and I had no idea of the titles. But I enjoyed it.
Canción, y ahora álbum, que me recuerdan a papá.
Cream! Didn’t know it was such a phsychaedlic rock type of rhythm and blues band
Killer guitar tone and riffs, paired with great drumming, and oh yeah, maybe the worst lyrics ever, song after song. The fuzz is killer though and list worthy.
I liked some stuff more than others. Strange Brew, Tales of Great Ulysses and SWLABR are pretty great, though most of the other tracks don't quite reach those levels. Mother's Lament was Morbid yet quite cheeky. Eric Clapton is a cock.
Listening session: april 21st, while commuting home from internship Listened to before: heard one song before Thoughts: Sunshine Of Your Love is a banger, but the rest of the album is a bit repetitive and is more something I would play in the background because it’s not that interesting Favourite tracks: Sunshine Of Your Love & Tales Of Brave Ulysses
ok
Strange Brew? OPETH REFEREBCE RAAAHHHHAHAHBABAHJ
Er mye bra her men plata mangler det lille ekstra. Kjede me litt mot slutten.
mnja
Could have done without Mother's Lament. I like the genre but was hoping for some more jams like Crossroads rather than slower stuff like Sunshine of Your Love.
Pleasant enough!
3 stars.
Great musicians, but no great songwriter
Not bad at all.
Eric Clapton origins xD
WOAH I LIKE THIS
No. 160 Tales of Brave Ulysses is a really really good song, and i did enjoy most of the album, but the rest didn’t leave much of an impression
Trippy. Clapton is great, I usually feel like I need to be on psychedelics to fully appreciate a Cream album though.
3.5 stars
I really liked the psychodelic vibe of this genre. I really liked the first two songs, i think i listened before to this songs. Gave me a peaceful vibe.
Obviously some big tracks here but found a couple skippable. Blue Condition and Mother's Lament I didn't particularly enjoy. Very good psychedelic though. I'll come back to it but I'm not sure I'd buy it. I'd say 3/5.
The most uneven album I've come across so far, with very high high points (Sunshine of Your Love) and very low lows (Mother's Lament).
It was fine, but not really remarkable for me
Yeah
"Sunshine of Your Love" tervet plaati ei päästa. 3.4/5
Decent psychedelic blues rock. Sunshine is the shining star.
it was fine.
Relisten Pretty tight album, not much fluff to it. Sunshine of your Love is the obvious big song here but I liked the rest of it quite a bit too. Favorite Tracks: Sunshine of your Love, Dance The Night Away Least favorite: Mother's Lament 3.5/5
ok
Classic and satisfying
i don’t know how i feel about this one
Good album. Clean and classic. 3+
Likes the more blues influenced tracks
Cream have more or less bypassed me over the years. This is great - the playing and the songs, the presentation… That said, I doubt I’d ever need to hear it again. I wasn’t so completely enamoured with it to make it part of my life after all these years. I’ve got on fine without ever hearing it, but it’s not shit.
Tales of Brave Ulysses is a really really good song, and i did enjoy most of the album, but some of the songs made me really anxious for some reason? So probably wont listen to the whole thing again. But probably individual songs!
Sometimes forget that Clapton was in Cream. Pretty good album for the times. I wouldn't go out of my way to play it again. But if it's on, I'm not changing it. I think that is the kind of criteria that warrants a 3 star rating. Sunshine of Your Love is good enough to make the playlist.
Solid 60s psychadleic rock. Sunshine Of Your Love is a classic and the rest of the album holds up. Nothing amazing here, though.
fun
Ni slabo actually
Listened in the car. Don't typically like psychedelic rock but this was an example of it moving more towards the hard rock style that bands like Led Zeppelin came to popularize. Didn't mind it but didn't love it either.
Good album, I think it lacks a lot on punchy-ness within the production but that could be a result of the times, overall solid album with a lot of somber and enchanting hooks.
Pretty good album. I've got no particular thoughts on it but it was a nice listen.
Started off strong - really liked the first two tracks, including Sunshine of Your Love. The next several songs were meh, I ended up skipping a few of them because the vocals were whiny. Towards the end I started to get into it again, and the last song (sounded like drunken sailors at the bar) made me scratch my head - what was that about? (3)
This record has been held up as a classic for forever, but I don't think I've ever listened all the way through before. I'll talk about the Clapton of it all later and try to focus on the album as a whole first. Overall, I think I expected them to do more here - more psychedelia, more showmanship, just more. This is a very tight record, and I appreciate that restraint. Judging this against its peers, it's solidly one of the better blues & psych-rock albums of the era but I'm not sure it earns all the praise it gets. Had they not all gone on to have notable post-Cream careers, the band might not have carried so much mystique through the years. Alright, the Clapton of it all... There are hundreds (thousands?) of guitar players who sound like Clapton...NOW. But that's because he stood out so much in his prime. As a young guitar player, I revered Clapton on the top tier of players - right up there with Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. Though that might have been based more on reputation than actual knowledge of his catalog. It feels like the recordings only tell part of the story and his legend was really born on stage. In any case, I think this is Clapton's peak era - pre self-indulgence, pre tragic fatherhood, pre pandemic hot takes. Just a muppet-looking English dude shredding some blues guitar. Nobody has ever loved me the way English dudes in the 60s loved 'borrowing' African American music of the 30s-50s.
Ehhh it’s a solid 60’s psychedelic rock album with blues influences. It’s not bad, but none of the songs really stand out. I am completely neutral on Eric Clapton’s guitar playing and overall I found this to be pretty ok.
It’s ok. Ahead of its time but i like more albums from the 60’s 3.4 just below a 4… but it’s a 3 wtf is that last song though 5/5 album art
Not my bag but alright
Felt pretty unmemorable besides a couple songs, "Tale of Brave Ulysses" and "We're Going Wrong"
Some undoubtedly great stuff on here, but overall a bit of a mixed bag tbh. Some not great stuff like 'We're Going Wrong' and particularly 'Mother's Lament'.
I think the best work of Clapton was with this band. There are some rock classics on this album, but nothing notably interesting or inspiring.
Once you've heard one Cream song you've heard them all
Some great legendary songs on here. Milestone album for Eric Clapton. His guitar riffs are electric (haha). I enjoyed the popular songs but the lesser known ones are just weird. 4 stars Disraeli Gears is a malapropism referring to bicycle gears (derailleur), inspired by a conversation among the band members. Nerd Corner: Several releases of this album exist, but the best is the Deluxe Edition of Disraeli Gears, which includes the original mono mix on Disc 2. The master tapes were engineered primarily for mono playback, and the album truly comes alive in that format.
I think I really need to have heard this album when it came out to fully appreciate it. It's good enough music, but isn't blowing me away at all.
Of course I knew the hits, but never really listened to Cream. I think their original sound and guitar playing made them who they were, but if they didn’t breakup on their own, they would’ve been short lived anyway. Just a hunch. Sort of a one trick pony, but probably really unique for that moment in time.
top 3 - SWLABR, World Of Pain, Take It Back. It’s like, alright.
Oh no the Israelis are creaming 🍦
Psychedelische rock uit '67, maar deze keer wel interessant (looking at you, Country Joe).
It's good.
Didn’t leave much of an impression but it was better than I thought it would be at least.
Mothers Lament???
Not super familiar with these guys but I enjoyed the album.
3 A few great psychedelic tunes. You can hear the blues coming through.
I have a personal vendetta against Eric Clapton but this was still a 4 up until the last song, fuck you eric take my 3
Another time or day I may have liked this more but it was boring today
Sorry chaps this one didn’t really do it for me
I get the progression and this is solid, but just not my favorite feel. A few good memorable ones in there and the musicianship is good. 3.
3.5
Tales of Brave Ulysses sure sounds a lot like Sunshine of Your Love. Is that on purpose? Also, Mothers Lament sounded like it should have been a Monty Python song.
3.5. Not bad. Not great either.
moderately catchy but very same-y. guitars occasionally do something interesting, some of the vocals are decent, but it's the same texture over and over again. not really convinced there's more than four actually different songs on the album.
Some stone cold classics in this album, some less so. Very much a nostalgic listen based on the music I was around growing up.
Was very ready for a bit of psych but this didn’t hit as much as the first few tracks suggested it would. Picks up again after a baggy middle.
I listened to this 4 or 5 times to make sure. There are 5 solid tracks here, but none that I love. The mix has my favorite feature from rock music around this time where all the drums are in one speaker and the guitar is the other side. Feels foundational to a bunch of other music I like more. Ultimately settled on a 3 but can see how this could be higher.
Nice roots rock feel, band had fun especially towards the end of the album. Three stars because it's generally not my favorite style.
2/28 Pretty good. Good to know where the song Sunshine of Your Love came from.
buenas guitarras
𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘳𝘢𝘦𝘭𝘪 𝘎𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 feels like blues-rock with the intensity dialed back — you can sense the band’s raw power, but it rarely breaks loose. The one true standout is 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲, driven by Eric Clapton’s unmistakable riff, a hook so strong it practically carries the album’s legacy on its own. Beyond that, the record is competent and occasionally interesting, but it never quite catches fire.
In terms of classic rock Cream gets a resounding "meh 🤷♂️"
Sunshine of your love is such a good song, the rest were good but didn't hold up as much for me.
It’s not a bad album in any sense, but it doesn’t really stand out, either. After listening to the album, I can only remember "Sunshine Of Your Love", which is a bangers
3.5
Been a long time since I’ve listened to this whole album and I forgot how much I disliked Blue Condition and how the instrumentation of Tale of the Brave Ulysses is so similar to Sunshine of Your Love.

Disraeli gears- kinda disappointing. I had live cream vol 2 as a kid and I loved how they did power trio improvisation when it sounds like they are all soloing at once. This does not really capture that energy. I think Jack Bruce’s bass playing was the thing that made Cream interesting and special. The songwriting is pretty weak at points. Not really a fan of ginger baker -his drums don’t sound great on this recording and it often just sounds like he’s smashing without much time feel. I prefer Clapton’s more melodic playing in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. A lot of this sounds just like 60’s blues rock noodling but he guess he was a pioneer of the sound and super influential at the time. I’d rather listen to any Hendrix album or the first Black Sabbath album for this kinda 60’s blues rock. Tales of Brave Ulysses and Sunshine of Your Love are great though.
It's fine. There are four songs on here I do really enjoy - Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, and SWLABR. Other than those, this really is just an average blues rock album, eclipsed by many of its peers. I truly, truly do not understand why Eric Clapton was ever regarded so highly, as one of the best blues guitarists (or even guitarists, period) of all time. From all that I've heard, his playing is pedestrian even for its time. Really, really overhyped.
Eric Clapton has some extremely disappointing views and I’ve never found his guitar playing as phenomenal as the legends tell. The first two songs are the highlight of this album and obviously Sunshine of Your Love is fantastic. Then the album lost me for the next few songs until Tales Of Brave Ulysses and SWLABR. The guitar playing finally got me!! Those were solid. Rest was nothing to write home about. Blah.
There's a lot to like in this album, Sunshine of Your Love is the obvious standout track , but there's also a good bit that I can admit I hated. Blue Condition is my least favorite of the original compositions, and Mother's Lament is just terrible. I know it's one of those songs that's just supposed to be a bit of fun for the band themselves, but I just never want to hear it again. Even Strange Brew is a bit of a miss. Shame though, since World of Pain, Dance the Night Away, Tales of Brave Ulysses and Outside Woman Blues are all really good songs
Mother's Lament is a horrible closer because if you didn't enjoy the album (beyond the first two tunes because they're objectively great) they highlight all the reasons why you're right not to. If you did enjoy the album they give you a powerful lens through which to focus subsequent listens, revealing a mostly dull album high on borrowed Americana. If you were on the fence like me it makes you realise that, just maybe, those doubts you had in the middle of the album were right...
3,0 Highlights: Sunshine Of Your Love, Swlabr
Really a 3.5 for me
those poor babies
Psych but just ain't hitting quite right. Cool guitar work tho. Got that groove. Kék kondíció Okay, Mother's Lament is funny af
I am pleasantly surprised. Just a really good rock album from the late 60s. Really good for the time. I would expect all the songs to sound the same but It doesn't, there's variation. There is some filler however. Still good though. Standouts: Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, World of Pain, We're Going Wrong
a groovy time
Some classics intermingled with some meandering filler
Classic rock
This one keeps on keeping on.
A classic album by Cream. I enjoyed it - the last track was unexpected haha fun way to end the album
7.4/10 some nice guitars and fun jams, but many a bit the usual 60s Psychedelic rock Highlights: Sunshine of your Love, Strange Brew, SWLABR, Take it Back
Interesting album cover 1967 67 This first song "Strange Brew" is trippy Sunshine of your love is a classic song, One of the first i was ever taught on guitar World of Pain gives me vibes that some shit is abt to go down like a bank robbery or something Dance the night away gives me some creepy vibes idk I'm imagining some skeletons dancing eternally Blue Condition sounds like a kids song but im pretty sure the lyrics are talking about being dead interesting song i think my least favorite so far. Tale of brave ulysses has interesting imagery im still trying to determine a meaning from it likely drugs tbh its the 60s SWLABR classic 60s rock song nothing wrong with it tho its catchy chorus is great. of course the lyrics are very random yet i somehow understand it if that makes sense We're going wrong is interesting not really vibing with it. Outside woman blues is starting off strong for me rlly interesting riff Take it back sounds great so far I like the ambient crowd cheering noises and i always love the hermonica, this one got me bumping my head Mother's Lament feels like something my Irish grandpa would sing to me randomly when hed get drunk. Def wna sing this in a bar even tho the lyrics lowkey sad tbh Overall this album aint bad this is my first album I've heard By cream. Eric clapton shows his very unique and sometimes genius guitar riffs that really defined this generation even tho hes a piece of shit RANKING 1. Sunshine of your love 2.Dance the Night Away 3.Take it Back 4.SWLAB 5. Wolrd of Pain 6.. Strange Brew 7..Outside Woman Blues 8. Tales of Brave Ulysses 9. Mother's Lament 10. We're Going Wrong 11. Blue Condition
Cream is a great band. Eric, Ginger and Jack are fantastic musicians. Strange Brew: 6.5/10 Classic Bluesy song but still original. Sunshine of your Love: 8/10 That riff is up there with Smoke on the Water. Fantastic song. World of Pain: 7.3/10 Basic and the words are spoken well. Dance The Night Away: 6.4/10 Nice 12 string Blue Condition: 6.1/10 Basic blues song. Tale of Brave Ulysses: 6/10 That riff sounds like white room. Pretty standard song. SWLABR:6.2/10 Not bad. Interesting song. We’re going wrong: 5.9/10 Boring Outside woman blues: 6.1/10 Standard Take it back: 6/10 Pretty normal blues track Mothers lament:7/10 Funny track. I like it.
Too much psycodelia for me
Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love and Tales of Brave Ulysses are the exceptional songs on this album. The rest are fine, but definitely nothing special.
3 out of 5 Great classic rock album. Clapton!
Ok. Overrated.
Know it well! Half of it is classic stuff and such growth from the first record, but the filler is still pretty filler-y.
I'm not sure where to rate this. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't the best thing I've heard. Psychedelic tunes is a specific niche I try to give a chance, which can be a hit or miss with me. For this one, I'll settle with a 3 since it wasn't strong enough to be a 4 with me.
A couple of really good songs and a bunch of filler
Exactly what I was expecting based on the cover and my limited experience with Eric Clapton.
I tried to understand it but for me it is just ok. I enjoy it but it didn't blow me away in any form 3/5
Really falls off after the first few tracks. Makes me want to listen to, like, 12 other albums from the same era. Shockingly meh, despite the obvious talent involved. 3.
I thought this had some hits and some misses. Some of it sounds like it's from an altogether different project (especially "Mother's Lament"). I find "We're Going Wrong" interesting.
great hard hitting psychedelic rock!
This album is like your older brother coming home from university holidays. The family is having dinner and your brother has just handed you a beer, without even checking with your parents.
Definitely some good tracks on here, Sunshine of Your Love is a classic! I discovered Strange Brew and Tales of Brave Ulysses which were bops! I guess the melodies don't suuuuper hit me on every song but I can appreciate the album as a whole
really uninteresting psych rock. boring and underwhelming
It's just okay
Very front loaded, but mostly enjoyable all throughout.
Sikkert skamfett i 67 tho. 3/5 would buy the record on sale
Cream on my Gears
I liked it
Eh.
Sunshine of your love was almost enough to make me rate this as 4. Almost.
Strange Brew sets the tone for the album, leading into the classic that is Sunshine Of Your Love. The deep guitars and layered vocals throughout give the tone of struggle and release. Ending with Mothers Lament, we get the ending to the story we are waiting for.
Top Songs: Sunshine of your Love Tales of Brave Ulysses Take It Back
Due to my anti-Clapton bias, I was bracing myself for this to be two straight-up bangers (Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love) followed by a load of old blues wank. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that while Disraeli Gears is a tad patchy, it's not boring.
cool album
More white guy blues. This will always be boring
Cream Classico
Lite sådär, men Sunshine Of Your Love är grym
Muzikaal erg goed, voor die tijd bizar. Toch niet altijd enorm verassend voor mij.
Great album... but not for me.
Clapton is god right? Maybe…
Sunshine of your love riff is great, Mother's Lament is horrific. 7ish
Solid classic rock. Not really my thing. Good vocals and instrumentals.
Not much to get my teeth into after the first two tracks. But some interesting (and variable in quality) production, pleasant vocals and cool guitar.
3/5, a pleasant listen and has a couple amazing songs. "Sunshine of Your Love," a wonderful song whose legendary riff launched the sale of 10,000,000 super strats, is the obvious champ of the album, but there are a few that I enjoyed more: "Tales of Brave Ulysses," "SWABLR," and "World of Pain" were my favorites.
Groovy
Not listened to this one for a while, obviously very well structured but also obviously completely all on Acid, and way gone🤣 Still a very good album
It’s such a vibe, pretty good and groovy
Is there a reason for today? World of pain, in the falling rain, around me
Great vibe. And loved many of the lyrics. Like in the 3rd song. Was pleasantly surprised.
Mixed bag of blues and psychedelic
Not my thing, but it was alright I guess.
so this is eric claption right right album cover had potential buuuttttt i dont think it actually looks good. they tried :/ Also, not a long album. Love people nowadays complaining about wanting long albums back and then u get this lmao. Sunshine of your love slaps deserves to be their most listened song on the album. mister eric claptons guitar is going incredibly strong ngl still a piece of shit tho ey i liked it, buuttt i wanted more ig
Knew Sunshine of your love pretty well but haven't explored the album, the only song that really hit me though on this was the Ulysses one? Good to explore, probably my least favourite so far though
Strange Brew - This is a fun jam, I like it! Not my usual type of music but it’s fun. Sunshine of Your Love - Oh hey, I’ve heard this one before! Really like it. The riff is real nice. Quick favorite so far. Really like the guitar solo too. World of Pain - Ooh, very groovy, very smooth! I like it! It has a very interesting feel to it that I’m enjoying. Dance the Night Away - For some reason this isn’t really clicking with me right away. It’s not bad, it’s just not really hitting for me either. I do think it grows on me a little the longer I listen, though. Blue Condition - This one also isn’t really my thing. Slow in a way I don’t really enjoy very much. Again not a bad song, just not my thing. Tales of Brave Ulysses - Ooh, I like the start of this. I like the rest of it too! Another favorite I think. Really nice, really interesting, good jam! SWLABR - Ooh another immediate favorite, this is really fun! This is much more in line with the vibes I usually enjoy in music. Really nice and upbeat. We’re Going Wrong - A good slow song, not so much my thing though. I really enjoy this guitar in this one though. Outside Woman Blues - Oh this is fun! I like the intro. Some more really nice guitar. Take It Back - Oh this is a really nice one. Another upbeat one which I enjoy. This would be a good song to dance to. I really like it! A head bopper of a song. Like literally, I am bopping my head listening to it. Mother’s Lament - This one is really different from the rest of the album, huh? A nice change up, but not really something I’d listen to independently. OVERALL: A lot of it isn’t my usual style, but it’s nice! Another one I would rate 3.5 if I could, but I can’t, so it’s a 3. Favorites were Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, and Take It Back.
Similar to Willie Nelson, I know how formative this album is, but it is not one I would go out of my way to hear again. There are plenty more authentic blues albums I would rather hear.
This is a fine 60s rock album.
Favourite Songs: SWLABR
Never heard a cream album before, the psychedelic blues was easy listening and I enjoyed most of it tbf
Strong record mixing the blues with other influences to create something that is different and more original. Still got Clapton and he unfortunately does all the best songs here but they all put in a strong performance
eff that guy for real
Fine
A (very) short trailer for Wheels of Fire.
assez oubliable
Startede godt, tabte kadence.
Yeah fine. A couple of good songs, but, otherwise, not for me. Talented musicians
chill not my fav
Ok.
3.5/5
What an ending
more kitschy late 60s psychedelic rock. a little strange, a little abstract, but chock-full of that creative cheese that was prominent throughout this era of music. it's generally good, although it's nothing too distinct. some of the tracks i favor over others, a few are definitely a little odd. this is the kind of album where some people think it's a true hidden gem in the realm of classic rock, others think it's just an unremarkable little oddity. i'm completely torn with these two descriptors, so one would just need to listen to judge for themselves.
Decent album
Okay.
Classic rock. Turn it up, dude!
Some great blues guitar work and great vocals. When I was listening to it I kept forgetting that it was just a trio, it sounds like more. There is a really nice vibe to it all. One big hit song stands out but the rest of the album is really good too. Very mellow and easy to listen to. I kind of forget about this band although I'm familiar with their work and the lead man. I'll have to put this one more often.
I don’t have much to say about this one, to be honest! It’s not particularly remarkable, but also not a bad listen by any means – there are some fun songs and a few standout guitar solos peppered in the tracklist. Definitely wouldn’t mind getting another Eric Clapton assignment soon! Highlights: Sunshine of Your Love, World of Pain, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, Mother’s Lament
Good album. Clapton guitar work is unmistakeable although I find he is slightly overrated.
Is it a classic album because it has 1 classic track on it - probably not 3 for me
Really wanted to like this album more than i did but the opening two tracks prevent it from being any lower. The final track is british humour at aome of its best.
Not bad
Good stuff
Psychadelic/Blues rock like this has never clicked for me, but I did not mind listening to this album. Sunshine of Your Love is such an iconic 1960s song. It's one of the 5 or 6 songs that every film or TV program plays to make sure you know the scene is taking place in the 60s. I just won't get into some of the personal baggage certain guitarists bring with them and it did not affect my rating for this album. Worth a listen.
Cream just seems like a less interesting of a band to me over time. Technically proficient but many of the songs are too heavy-handed with the instruments.
Solid psychedelic rock, enjoyable. 7/10 Favourite track: Tales Of Brave Ulysses
Feels weird to call a psychedelic album “no frills” but that’s how I feel about Disraeli Gears. Cream has a pure, somewhat plain sound that cuts right through to the meat of 60s rock. There are some bluesey bops here and a few standouts. This is exactly the kind of thing I’d put on again when I want to listen to some groovy guitar.
Two great songs, rest ok 3/5
Lots of psychedelic overtones, one of the great power trios, I can almost forgive that Clapton is in the line up, but not quite
A classic of the late 1960s rock scene. The high points of this album are very high, the riffs are blue, and let’s give one for the art. The low points of this album are pretty boring, though, overall I would listen to the classics again, but the rest is forgettable.
Nothing stood out to me other than Sunshine of Your Love
Rock with some blues vibes… wasn’t necessarily drawn to it but can see comparisons to other 60s bands. Guitar heavy.
Yeah enjoyed that, classic 60's/70's rock. Didn't fucking realise Clapton was English!
This is a good album
3.5* Blues riffs were cool, some weird stuff that wasn't.
A totally new band to me. Their sound is very of its time. The style of distortion on the guitar and the singing, or really the silent spaces in between, and the strange psychedelic lyrics makes me think of other band from the 60s and 70s. While the album as a whole was good and it was a fun time listening through it , no song really stood out to me enough to be memorable or that I want to come back to it again.
have never really been a fan of sunshine of your love and have always like ulysses better but overall i like this a lot more than i thought i would 3.5
These guys had some good drugs
Mercifully short and to the point - you get their vibe in less than 40 minutes which is always appreciated. Not exactly my vibe tho. 3/5
