Nae tae bad!

Its nice enough but doesnt really get out of second gear

Couldn't get into this at all. Listened to it the first time last week, thought it was dull, then listened to it again when a couple of you thought it was really good and still didn't get it, then listened to it again this morning and still find it dull. Too beige for me, doesn't do enough to elevate it above background music. 2/5.

Pretty generic late 2000s early 2010s album. Kind of the sound at the time with a few tracks that had staying power. It's not that there's anything particularly BAD about this album just nothing particularly good.

It's like background lift music, don't hate it but can't feel anything for it.

I just didn’t jive with this album. To mellow and I don’t think dreampop is a genre I’d ever return to

This album would make fair background music in small doses. I did not like it and felt like I wasted my time listening to it.

I absolutely believe this album was released in 2010 - a few cool beats here and there, but they’re buried under all the cursive.

Dreamy background music that works as foreground music, too--meaning that these are identifiably songs. Not catchy or moving songs, but songs nonetheless, which is more than most dream-slush peddlers manage.

Inoffensive but completely forgettable

a nice album, but rather boring. each song had the same kind of tune, and nothing stood out. i certainly didn't hate it, but it's just fine. this album must be a lovely listen right before bedtime, though.

Pretty samey, but not terrible.

Well, this album had nothing for me today. There was no assault on my senses, it just didn’t touch me at all. I could see playing this if I was having trouble falling asleep. But since I don’t typically have that problem, I don’t know what part this album can play for me.

The opening track Zebra perfectly fit my mood and needs at the moment giving me high expectations for the remainder of the album. Perhaps too high. No other track rose above a non-committal shrug on my how-much-do-you-like-it? meter. Songs are simplistic and repetitive, both rhythmically and melodically. I wanted bigger changes, more surprises. There were times when they teased me with a build and I thought, ok here we go, and then...no. Overall, this just didn't do much for me.

Too calm, low contrast.

I've never really been able to get on board the Beach House hype train. There's bits of shoegaze (at its blandest), there's bits of Flaming Lips (at their blandest), there's bits of MGMT (who outside of the hitz were pretty bland themselves), but 12 years on I'm still struggling to find much of interest in this. It's hipster MOR. I was surprised it made best album of the year lists back in the day so I am even more surprised it has made it onto a best albums ever list.

I had never heard of them and I always welcome a new discovery with the promise of a back catalogue to explore. However so far they make all of the right sounds but I'm yet to be engaged. The reviewers who reference a shoegazing musical style must come from California. This is much more cheerful version of life. Cover art 1/5

This is OK and I can see why some may see this as valid on this list, but a little too ethereal for my liking. "Silver Soul" "Walk In The Park" "Used To Be" and best of all "Take Care" are ok but sadly not to my taste and wouldn't be in my list I am afraid.

The glut of positively beaming critical reviews make me feel like I’m missing something, and that like LCD Soundsystem, I’m losing my edge. See what I did there? For me, ‘Teen Dream’ is pleasant but ultimately drab and forgettable indie/dream pop. Fast forward and listen to ‘Lover Of Mine’ which is the best and most interesting song on the album, then head back to opening track ‘Zebra’ which is also OK. You can pretty much skip the rest of the record.

Boring

Good opening track, decent end track, all a bit samey in the middle

Pretty bleh

Very exhausting to listen to. It’s alright, but also rather creepy

achei meio chato mas entendo o hype

Very chill indie, it was enjoyable but not really a stand out for me. 'Lover of Mine' would be my top pick, the synths were very reminiscent of 80s pop.

Not grabbing me. Sounds like advert music.

Plays like a bad 70s movie credit-roll song.

Dreary and forgettable.

Не зацепил.

started ok, but then I realised I was listening to the same song for 45mins

Amazingly boring...

Was not a huge fan altogether. A few songs stuck out, but this wispy, ethereal type sound can miss me.

It was ok, pretty chilled vibe to the album

Didn’t care for it, most songs sounded the same

There is NO WAY this is one of the best albums of all time. It's fine, but it's really only one song, and I feel no need to listen to it.

Deece.

Not special

Klinkt best aardig, maar iets kabbelend.

Vlees noch vis.

So boring...10 mile stereo is the only song that saves the album.

forgettable dreamy 2010s electro pop. somehow i know walk in the park despite it not being a single. its of that swath of dreamy music from that era that all sounds the same. bit of a snoozefest.

First time listening to this album. Nothing in it really grabbed me.

not bad, but kind of the same thing over and over.

Not bad as background music. Couldn’t really tell the difference between the songs. Wouldn’t deliberately listen to it again. Boring.

didn't like. every song sounded the same to me.

oppblåst

You wait till these boys hear bloom. Shit themselves.

not my thing

melancholy pop

Too backgroundy at times but a couple of lovely tracks.

Eipä jäänyt mieleen

Boring as hell

Not the type of music I would seek out. Good background music when sitting in front of the fireplace reading a book or having a quiet evening with another person. A little bit boring and repetitive

Elevator music thats self important.

Ne mogu više ovaj izbor albuma na ovoj listi, završit ću na liječenju 🤣 bojim se da će mi ukupni score na kraju projekta pasti ispod 2. 1/5, 1/10

Snore.

Too slow for me dog

I was 18 and life felt so full of possibilities

So boring.

This was a very dull lisen

uninspired and bland

Not my thing

There is very little that gets my goat as completely as “faux indie” so I was surprised to find that this was quite the best of the one star albums we’ve endured so far. Tom.

One of my goals for 2026 is to be less harsh with my reviews. I want to reserve 1s for only the most heinous of albums. Congratulations, 'Teen Dream'! That's you! Seriously. If I wanted to chill out to the delicate sounds of soulless non-music, I'd find some good ASMR. Note to admin: This is misclassified. It should be under shoegaze; not pop and definitely NOT rock.

Whenever it’s notated in the album’s review that the album was on the 1001 list I know that it’s going to be a one star. I think it’s supposed to give the album some credibility, but it just warns me nonsense awaits. Makes me question my life choices now that I’m 300 plus albums deep in this mess.

Classic Shoegaze. It is perfectly ignorable. There is literally no statement, no musical point of view, no reason for existing. Album cover is perfect … almost there but not really … if you take the time to look closer, you’ll just be disappointed.

Wouldn’t even be on 100000000001 albums to listen to before you die

*Joe Pesci Tales from the Crypt Meme* What the fuck is this piece of shit?! God, this is so not my vibe, and I'm gonna rate it completely on that. I hate whatever "dream pop" is. And this is that. Miss my ass with this. (it does sound lovely, tho, so here's your 2)

So bland, I forgot this was on. Meh.

Snoooooooze.

Forgettable

I'd never heard of Beach House before and after hearing them I'm not sure how they have been influential in the music world. The music seemed pretty repetitive and for many tracks it mostly drowned out the vocals, often with a strange shushing echo tracking the vocals. As such I don't really know whether the lyrics were in some way influential, although I suspect not. Not horrible music, just not one for me.

I struggled to find anything to enjoy in this. Mostly I found it dull, derivative and irritating.

The music is as plain and boring as the album art

I'm sure this is well done for what it is, but I really can't stand this style music.

this was monotonous

Indie girl vocals are over done and an instant album skip.

kinda boring, sounds like music from TV propaganda

Teen Dream by Beach House completely passed me by back in 2010—I’d never heard of the band or the album until now. Given the glowing reviews, I was expecting something truly special. But honestly, this one just didn’t land for me. I understand that it was seen as a fresh alternative to indie and pop at the time, but to my ears, it feels middle of the road. Nothing stood out, nothing stuck with me, and overall, I found it quite dull. It lacks the energy and inventiveness of similar-era acts like MGMT. Favourite tracks: “Real Love” and “Silver Soul” were okay. Least favourite tracks: Most of the album, unfortunately. It just feels very mediocre. Album artwork: Not much to say—uninspiring.

This album is like when you get stuck talking to the dull person in the office or at a party. You can kind of tolerate it for a bit but after a while, and you realise no-one is coming to your aid, you’re just getting more and more anxious and desperate to get away. 2010s indie, I despair at your naffness.

Not for me

What even is this? It's so insipid and boring

When I was a kid I would fly between houses as long as I put my blue cape on. As I got older I could still fly but then it was between cities as long as I had the cape still on, which was getting a lot smaller on me. Now that I am in my 40's I can fly between states and have perfected the art of flying with this trusty, tattered, faded, children's cape! That whole story I just told you is bullshit, but it is minuscule compared to the bullshit that is this album. The only thing in the world this Beach House album influenced is me to make up some bullshit to try and rival that bullshit. I get that "teen bands" are very influential (even if not my cup of tea) but to pick this over Backstreet Boys or N'Sync or any of the other similar ones that fit this category is bonkers.

This album was boring Didn’t go anywhere didn’t do anything Barely went about one tempo Hipster dud music

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Great cure for insomnia. Not much else was great.

really not for me. couldn’t finish it or even go passed the first two tracks.

Ei kiitos.

Washed up.

In a nutshell: shoegaze come undone… Tom Hughes from The Guardian said what I was thinking about this album: “… oddly icy and melodically a little ineffectual”. Teen Dream lacks melodic breadth. It feels cold and indifferent. There is a lack of variation with the backing instruments. Lead vocalist Victoria sounds like a watered down imitation of Tracey Thorn of Everything But The Girl. I share the same complaint as other users: a Yo La Tengo album should be here instead. We already have a better example of this genre from this era on this list too: The xx’s debut (a little more indie rock/electronica, but listen to tracks like VCR and you’ll hear dream pop perfection) Overall: 1/10

It doesn't really do anything, or go anywhere. There's no passion. It's like they're going through the motions and nothing about this sounds special or groundbreaking.

Once you've heard one song you've heard them all, not sure how this made it onto this list. 1/5 Won't be revisiting.

I’m very confused about albums like this and so many other songs this list. The music is listenable and fine but lacks any emotion or passion. It’s background music while you do another task. I absolutely cannot see anyone sitting down and intentionally listening to this album. 1.4

Super dull - felt like a funeral dirge the whole time. And not in a good, Black Sabbath funeral dirge way either. Just a boring album.

Absolutely nothing of note to say about this album. I may as well have been listening to Muzak, a white noise generator or hell I don’t even know how to describe. I wish I could give this album “null” stars.

Man, there has never been an album that fits the definition of 'not for me' more than this one

Every single song son of the same to me. Maybe I'm just old. Lol

This does nothing for me and if anything, I find it pretty annoying. For some reason, pretty much every dream pop band from this era evokes an unpleasant and visceral reaction from me.

Gave up after 4 songs... Almost fell asleep 1/5

Nicht meine Richtung

прикольненько

Only 1 song I really rate, others weren't bad but just reminded me of Highschool ...

Kind of meh broody

Light, breathy, insubstantial.

Forgettable

This album is all of the worst bits of the 2010s rolled into one. The anti-pop movement was badly needed. But it produced equally insufferable music

Not for me. I got to the 4th track on the album and that was enough. Each song seemed to be a near perfect facsimile of the previous one.

I only knew one song of this and just because of a tiktok trend and that song it's not even good at all. The hole album feels repetitive, good for background sound only.

Did not finish. Really generic, every track sounds the same.

It makes sense what many of these albums are on this list, even if they aren’t my personal taste. This, however, makes no sense. It is so bland it makes rice cakes interesting. It is at best background noise, but mostly it’s sleep inducing. Which I guess is good if you’re an insomniac.

This is probably going to get a low vote simply on the basis of having one of the most wankily pretentious album covers I've yet to see in this list. Oh shag. I've just read the reviews and the term used is 'dream pop' which is what the Americans call shoegaze. Amazing how the likelihood of pretentious wankery has just tripled. Sigh. Let's have a listen. Yes. Pretentious wank. Guff.

Boring 1/5

Same song 10 times in a row

"A sleepy sound, but with the sleepiness of chloroform rather than a lullaby." Orwell

Thought it was boring. Wouldn't listen to it again.

Not a fan of this music

Completely unlistenable

I always try to guess the type of mood someone must be in to put on a specific album. This album is for those curled up in a little ball after witnessing someone run over their dog, getting out to laugh in their face about it before driving off never to give them or their dog a second thought. The album isn’t bad. It is just mildly monotonous and entirely inconsequential. It’s more fun to read the melodramatic Pitchfork review. “Carsick slide guitar riff?” Their writing is as meaningless as it is hilariously pretentious. Go hug your dog and skip this vaguely depressing album.

Meh. A bit too chill and almost boring. Lots of other options for those depressed stages in life💀

Sinceramente isso tem absolutamente nenhum mérito pra estar aqui

Never heard of them before this, never will again. Pish, which should never be in this list, or in end of year top album lists. Not one song I liked, or would be happy to hear again. Rubbish 1 🌟, only because 0 isn't an option!

Boring, forgettable, dreary.

I listened to this album while cleaning up the kitchen after a meal I didn't enjoy. This music was the least fulfilling part of my evening.

Boring

Not a big fan of this style of indie.

Very.. very… dry and boring. Not a single song was memorable enough to comment on.

After reading that this would be good music to "bone" to among the reviews has me questioning whether I ever want to read a review on an unfamiliar album again. It's all I could think of while listening to it. I don't know whether I should feel more sorry for the guy, the guy's wife or the both of them if this is the kind of music that they "bone" to. The feeling I was getting was to skip the fun and go directly to sleep. This album was bland, boring, dull and had an expressive and sonic dynamic range spanning from A to C. There wasn't a single track that made me want to listen to it past the half way point. Different strokes for different folks but this album did nothing for me.

Such dreary music for a happy band name

Never heard of this band. All the songs sounded very similar. Nothing I would want to listen to again. Not my thing at all. 1/5

There are a couple of good tracks here, but not enough to redeem the album. It’s just too breathy and too 2010’s indie.

Music for critics

Another 2010 indie rock band that sounds just like all the other 2010 indie rock bands, but not even one of the good ones. Almost every song sounds like it was made on an iPhone app. Bland and forgettable. Not a single song even stood out.

This album does have a great place on this list: it's a perfect encapsulation of why I hated 90% of the music that came out in the 2010s. It's anti-pop, which was necessary because the pop scene was completely out of hand. But then anti-pop itself is just this bland, high-pitched, whiny crap that's so high off its own farts to be anything interesting at all.

VRAIMENT PAS POUR MOI

This was considered one of the best if not the best album of 2010, all I can say is music in 2010 must have sucked

Another bunch of ever-whining hipsters

Vibey but it didn’t stick out to me

Musiikkia, josta saa pitää, mutta johon ei tule tyytyä.

I shoe-gazed so hard, I saw my toes through my unlaced combat boots that I got at a local thrift shop for $650. Or maybe I need new shoes. Best song: the one with the airy synths. Worst song: the one with the airy synths. 👟

landfill indie

Shoe gazing music is like if people were like how do we make the MOST boring, whiny and LONG music ever? Shit is insufferable.

What was this album? It is not memorable. It is not trash, but it is not entertaining. It is not good. I did not care for it. I am rounding down.

Too bored

Too tired to write a review.

Definitely not for me, found it quite dreary.

Slowing down and speeding up the tape is a nice trick on song one, by song 5 it starts to grate a lot. That this is in any list is baffling.

Album geskimmed. Doet me niks.

A little whispery and soft for my liking. Nothing in it stood out as overly interesting.

Sinfully boring.

tellement chiant

should not be on this list

This kind of music seems to be in a no-man's land between classic and modern. At the time of writing, it's cringeworthy heartfelt saccharine pop-folk without a hint of irony or authenticity.

What I thought this would be and what it actually was made for disappointment.

I know a few Beach House songs but this album just didn't do it for me

Hard No!

Did not like this at all

Why did I have to listen to that, 15 minutes of tedium and I gave up.

Nah...

I didn't enjoy this one. 1/5 stars.

Really not sure why I'd have to listen to this. It's terrible

i don't like it tbh Fave Song: Silver Soul

The only thing that matters is that we are in this world 🌎 where you are the without the fear and the pain that we have in this country we will not survive this country if it comes from big di
