Reviews (page 8 of 9)

This album is a sleeper. I don’t see what the critics were acclaiming after listening to this album as it did nothing for me whatsoever. It was essentially the same dull song over and over again. No bueno.

There was absolutely nothing interesting about this music. I appreciate that this is relaxing and calming, but even so, there needs be something that keeps you engaged. There is just nothing to grasp onto here. The cover art is very appropriate, barely visible beige, that sums up the album well. Barely noticeable.

Ethereal but good for little more than background music.

Not very bad, but certainly not good

--Zebra...a dreamy alto --Silver Soul...I get the feeling this album has a vibe that it's going to stick to. will it get old? --Norway...song is nice, but very similar to what came before as I suspected. and we have 30+ more minutes of this --Walk in the Park...why is this over five minutes long? --Used To Be...the vibe continues. I appreciate that this is "only" four minutes long --Lover of Mine...I think this highlights one of the limits of the 1001. We only have so much time to listen before we move on to the next and sometimes an album is very much a "mood". I am not in the mood for this today --Better Times...I am liking this one. it has the same feel as the other tracks but the vocals are a little more exciting --10 Mile Stereo...another fine vocal performance but why is it five minutes long? If this album were a tight 35-40 we would be cooking --Real Love...same stuff --Take Care...I feel like I've listened to this same arpeggiated intro chord at least five times by this point

I’ve just never been able to really get into this band. I find it to be kind of a snoozefest.

Not a bad album, but the NME naming it as one of the Top 500 albums of all time tells you more about NME, than the music itself. And so here we have a very dreamy album. It doesn't inspire - it sends you to sleep. Which may - or may not - have been the point. Pleasant enough, but hardly a rallying call.

Little too dreary for me.

A little too ethereal

This one's a time capsule, even though I never really listened to it. I remember soft synth rock and dream pop taking off around this time. Bonobo. M83. The xx. Empire of the Sun. Maybe it was a reaction to the sudden proliferation of hype EDM and partyrock shite. Those other bands did the dream pop sound, but snuck in radio-friendly hits that made it into festival remixes and car commercials. Beach House kept it dreamy, which is fine, but on a real listen, I think it could've used a bit more pizazz. Zebra's a nice intro. Silver Soul has orders of magnitude more listens on Spotify than the rest, don't know why. Seems kinda unremarkable for a single. But it sounds like they'll get up to some slide guitar shenanigans throughout the album. Norway - yeah, nice slides. The middle songs kinda meander until 10 Mile Stereo, which has some motion and drama. Sounds like M83 with lesser vocals. Take Care is a good ending. It feels like it completes the dream. Overall, some nice instrumentals, but not a lot to distinguish it. It's not even that dreamy. Everything is played pretty safe. The pace and vocals all keep to the same narrow range. But I'd be interested to hear later albums and see where they went from here.

avocado music

It's not unpleasant but it's really boring.

what a snooze

Never heard of album or band. Immediately tell it’s going to be alt-ish. Zebra was fine. Nothing special. Silver soul has a better start. Emotional, but I like it. Pretty poppy. Love a good song to sing fade in. Norway is pretty good, I want to like it more but there’s some parts that I don’t get. Walk in the park is the best song so far. Pretty catchy but not much more to it. Used to be is pretty fun, good song writing and I like the piano. Lover of mine is mid. I actually like better times a lot more than the last few. Emotional and good background music. Really like the guitar. 10 mile stereo is pretty good too, picking up towards the back half of the album. Real love is pretty good too. I like the piano a lot. Really cool outro too. Take care is a really good closer, one of the best songs of the album. Overall, not life changing. Good not great. Probably won’t listen to again. 2.4 stars

Shoegaze, dreampop, whatever you call it, it is not for me. Norway sounds like discount Lykke Li. This is infinitely better than Cocteau Twins. Maybe dream pop is better than shoegaze? The only good shoegaze is the song by Alabama Shakes. Just as I'm thinking that maybe this isn't so bad, Better Times comes up. This wavers between terrible and tolerable.

Not for me

Norway

Feels like a 49-minute-long song in the best and worst way possible. Beach House released way better albums after this one. I would not call this an essential album at all.

Pretty boring and insipid. Very difficult to keep my attention on the music.

This was fine. Like, the tunes and voices were alright, a bit mgmt in places, but the instruments were just nice. Too nice. I felt like they just lacked a bit of edge. A bit of interest. And because of that it was a little bit boring.

Not my cup of tea, so I wasn't paying too much attention tbh. Ig it was good for background music.

Boring

It had its moments. But overall not great.

A bit insipid and uninspiring. Nice enough for background but never grabbed my attention really.

Uninspired but competent dream pop. Probably closer to a 3, but at one point I literally forgot I'd already listened to it.

Never seen a more appropriate album cover. This was just bland nothingness.

I never really gravitated towards Beach House naturally tbh. Knew the song Silver Soul from Tikto lol. Very dreamy and relaxing (would love to hear the album in a spa or something) but sill doesn't do a lot for me personally. Solid album overall for a nostalgic 2010's indie feelings can't say something really negative about it, just a bit boring for my taste. Best Song: Lover of Mine i guesss? kinda more groovy vibes the the rest Most skippable Song: Used to Be, hated the piano folky sound Song that surprised me most: idk, all kinda stared to sound the same

Indiozinho 2010. Legalzinho. 2,5

# 583 : Teen Dream Teen Dream – More Like Sleepy Whisper “Dream Pop,” they call it. And sure, it’s dreamy—if your dreams involve floating through a scented candle aisle in slow motion. This album is so slow and soft it could be used as background music at a health spa… or maybe during a guided nap. I don’t dislike it, but I also can’t have fun with it. It’s aural wallpaper: pleasant, unobtrusive, and entirely forgettable. Nothing here feels special or groundbreaking. The cover is bland, the vibe is neutral, and the whole thing is so uneventful it could be prescribed as a sleep aid. To its credit, the songs all sound similar—so it’s cohesive. I listened to the whole thing, but I forgot what I was listening to about halfway through. It’s like being gently ignored by music. Verdict: ★★ for cohesion. File under “albums that whisper you into a coma.”

Nice sound but all a bit samey for me

Well, it was just a bit shit wasn’t it? 2 stars

Felt like background music. I was completely indifferent.

Hmm at one point i thought something in reaction to the music a positive thought.

2.0 - Weak

I felt myself calm down when listening to this. A bit boring though.

i liked some of the beats but i was a little bored

2/5. Sure it's nice, and I honestly understand why this got the praise it did, but I just already know this genre is not for me. It's same feeling I have about Grizzly Bear as well, just poppy enough to leave me wanting more. There is not much substance in the lyrics either. Not quite fantastical but not down to earth either. It feels like it knows what it wants to be but also still experimenting. I don't know, I'm kind of just left feeling not much about it. It stands in places so it's not terrible but not my cup of tea. Best Song: Zebra, Norway, Take Care

I normally like Indie music but this just cant grab me. Probably it is fun in a live music setting but at home it just bores me. 2.5 stars

This is what constitutes as dream pop nowadays? I love that genre, and I hear it very little; I just hear generic early 2010s pop music. I might as well have skipped this one, because I heard nothing new, memorable or interesting.

An ok album. Nothing jumped out and made me think that it is a classic. I shall listen to it again to see if me view changes.

Kind of boring. Not really for me. The music is pleasant, but doesn’t really do anything interesting. 2/5 Won’t listen again

Good album, but kinda boring , round down to a 2

Bit dull, needs right setting.

Forgettable

Not sure I entirely understand the concept of Dream Pop but if it is supposed to be sleep inducing then this would appear to fit the bill.

Pleasant Muzak. I could wander unperturbed through places I’d rather not visit with this playing in the background.

Seemed promising at first. But became repetitive. Like a never ending commercial for chewing gum or something else with little value

Not my thing. But nice back ground music.

Just okay.

Meh. This was too mellow for me. I know the band is popular but I seriously almost fell asleep listening to it. Maybe in a different scenario I would have liked it but I have no drive to try it again.

Album 855 of 1089 Beach House - Teen Dream (2010) Rating : 2 / 5 This one didn’t quite land with me. I can understand why some might find the sound dreamy or transportive, but it mostly struck me as a bit too slow and sad for my taste. Nothing jumped out and grabbed me, and by the end, I was just kind of ready for it to wrap up. I don’t doubt that there’s skill and intention behind it—and I know this band has a loyal following—but it’s just not one I’d return to. That’s part of the fun of this project though: hearing it all, even the ones that aren’t for me.

I only listened to it yesterday and already I can't remember it well enough to write a review.

It was okay.

Not for me.

Airey upbeat and ambient dreamy indie made for chilled out coffee shop background music playlists - pleasantly woozy and unobtrusive, pretty, light, lush with energy from the bass, style from the synths, and heartfelt earnestness from the vocals - but ultimately kind of boring empty purely mood music.

This album is so lame, if it was a person I'd want to push them into a locker. They can't decide if they want to be alt rock, shoegaze or folk pop, so it ends up as an amalgamation of them all without satisfying any of them. For some reason I really liked Lover of Mine, that was it though.

I was really disappointed by this album cause I have friends who are fans but this album was just not for me at all. I felt like I was falling asleep but not in a good way. I have a hard time giving a bad review when I like the guitar playing and there’s definitely excellent guitar all throughout the album. But I honestly just didn’t care for the singer at all and the lyrics weren’t doing anything for me cause the only part of this whole album I enjoyed was the guitar. So kudos to the chef for that ultimately I’m never going to remember this album sadly.

I like a lot of bands that are supposedly similar to Beach House, but I just can’t get into this. Annoyingly dull.

25/06/2025 This album was very boring.

Alright, that's my first album on this website. I guess we all gotta start somewhere eh. I think I like it. It does it's magic in background but fails when one really listens to it imo. Taken on their own, each song is alright. But when you take the whole album in one go, it feels like a chore to sit through... unless you forget about it and leave it in the background. Welp, I don't know. I guess I got a problem with putting baby in the corner.

This kind of dreamy pop really doesnt do it for me.

Dull and soulless Dream Pop. The only reason I can see to think this is remotely Shoegaze is the half-hearted attempts to play some strange guitar parts halfway through. I'm actually amazed that something so mediocre is on the list, 2 stars.

Weiß nicht, fand es ziemlich langweilig.

Fine background music. Not exactly groundbreaking.

This teen has really boring and somewhat mood dream sequence

Kinda boring. Some good songs tjough

Никак не зашло

Tedious non-music

Ikke min kopp te. Forglemmelig musikk og tidvis slitsom vokal.

Not my style

A pretty soulless and boring indie album, from an anonymous band that I have never heard about. Not much to explore in here, a bit of a waste of time, unfortunately.

A bit boring. Songs sounded very similar and didn’t grab me. Some good ones

I don’t mind a bit of shoegaze dream pop or whatever, but I do mind when it’s safe, samey and on album that feels long than 40 odd minutes. Every track sounded like a minor revision of the one before, and they lack any rough edges. It doesn’t surprise or enthral , but it’s not terrible. On the plus side, it’s gentle and soothing, and the lyrics don’t really trouble the brain much. Better Times was probably less not great than the other songs, and it has a floaty feel about it. I also liked 10 Mile Stereo because it reminded me of MGMT being played at half speed. Overall, though, it ain’t for me.

Boring and monotone.

Meh, it's ok I guess.

Forgettable.

Dream pop is right, I felt myself dozing off while listening to this. It's not bad, just quite disposable and very like a hundred other similar bands. Although I like the return to simple production in bands we are seeing now, this particular one didn't do much for me.

Would you have called them a “dream pop duo” if the word dream wasn’t in the album title?? Seems odd. I have no idea what this is or how it got so many publications to state it was so good.

I was uninspired.

Okay, but fairly boring after a bit

Much like the album's cover, the music is insipid, forgettable, bearably perceptible. 3/10

No, definitivamente no.

First one on this list where i hadn’t heard of the band … didn’t do much for me and not sure why it’s here.

Dream pop hey. Just not my thing after hearing this, felt like being stuck in 2nd gear and dreary boring aimless journey. Guess it’s a mood thing but just wanted it to end and no interest in a second listen, 2 Star

This is *not* what my dreams were like as a teen

Didn’t really do much for me

Not bad, not good, not even particularly boring it’s just uninteresting.

Good alternative band. Good music.

Dream Pop... ok.

Was really hard to find and was not worth the effort to find, some of the most generic Indy rock of the time nothing more than background music.

Teen Dream was definitely an interesting listen, but it just wasn’t for me. The dreamy, atmospheric vibe is cool in small doses, but the whole album started to blend together after a while. I can see why some people are into it—it’s well-produced and has a unique sound—but personally, it didn’t really grab me or make me want to come back for more. Just not my style.

ambient. bit dull. not for me

Maybe if Natalie Portman gave me her headphones and told me this would change my life I’d care more. But as it is it’s just boring generic shoegaze.

Repetitive shallow Indie Rock apparently this is supposed to be called Dreams Pop.

Nothing special

There was nothing here to evoke any emotions; if this were a colour, it would be grey.

Not a fan

Not relaxing, just boring. I don't hear much creativity, not even for the Dream Pop scene. They call it dream pop now, but we would have called it darkwave or even goth back in the day. Sounds like a tired uninspired version of Black Tape For a Blue Girl or the other Projekt Records stuff that sounded fresh in the late eighties and throughout the 90s, even into the early 2000s, but seems a bit dated and boring now. Certainly not vital or required music to listen to before you die, but the engineering and producing was done well, so 2 stars.

This sounds like one of the weird indie bands that would feature on the soundtrack of The OC. Now, I very much enjoyed that show in my younger years, obsessed over it even. But that doesn't mean that the soundtracks were always good. They were largely hit and miss, much like I feel this is. The music is quite nice but the guy's voice is a bit whiny for my liking. Wanted to like this as it's something new to me but it's just not doing much for me

Bullshit - bore off mate

I was bored about two minutes into this album and remained so throughout. Real Love redeemed this towards the end but overall just forgetable.

Oooh, not for me. Bit bland. I get some people might spend their lives seeking out relaxation and 'chill vibes'. That's ok occasionally, but if that's your life, I think you might have missed the bus. Good luck to you, enjoy hangs at the bus stop. Two stars.

Sometimes, even when you know that an album is technically great from a musical standpoint, it’s not the vibe for you. I tried SO HARD to enjoy this record, making up every argument in the book as to why I should rate it a 3; it’s consistent, they’re talented as hell, the influence is obvious, there are good moments and a song or two I like here. But deep down, I have to be real– this isn’t for me, and I just find this style of music extremely boring. If you’re depressed and high and need background music to vibe out to, I get it. But for me, this is empty and ephemeral and there’s very little here for me to latch onto, so I don’t care. Kick me out of Brooklyn over this opinion 🙄 #sorrynotsorry

I love me some indie pop, but I found this to be pretty dull and average. Nothing stood out in the entirety of the album. I feel like I spent 48 minutes listening to the same song with slight changes. I don’t understand how this made a list of albums you must hear before you die. Maybe albums to listen to before you sleep.

I’m halfway into this and it’s just not for me.

Not quite as bad as most Indie/Alt BS but still grating. The Norway single in particular is annoying AF and sounds like it’s warped.

As my son liked to say when he was a toddler many, many years ago…this is bow-ing! Once again I must asks, why is it important for me to hear this album before I die? I hope the next one is better. I haven’t been enjoying these selections much lately.

Eh…whiny and not very interesting.

The Good: A Teen Dream by a Beach House… The Bad: Is it really a dream? The Ugly: Is it really a beach? I don’t understand why people would rave about albums like these. It is something you’d probably want to hear while sitting in the waiting room of your dentist’s office, just before your fifth root canal… So, yeah… Not for me… 1 1/2* cause it didn’t make me want to remove the experience from my memory…

Why? Why on the list? Why would someone like this? Why would someone make this? I know I'm being obtuse as it's art. It just had no appeal to me.

Pleasant, not very exciting. Nice singing, reminiscent of Fleet Foxes melodies. But if this was the best album of 2010, then that must have been a musical low point. (Possible)

This album is way to slow for my taste. Fever dream stuff. Can you imagine going to their concert? Ugh. Damn chairs better recline, cuz I am out!

Sounds like they were enjoying themselves, bit of a Summer-y vibe but don’t need to hear it again.

A typical pop album since the 2010s. Very bland, fueled by auto-tune, and a lack of instrumental pieces. There were some sentimental moments, but nothing to brag about. I don't mind this type of music in the background of a commercial when I'm reading a book, but other than that, I'll never seek out a Beach House album again. Favorite Song: "Zebra"

Its like the worse pet shop boys album on heroin. Super slow super mehhh too indie and too long. Not my type of music way too predictable and boring

I had never heard of this band before and I won't be rushing to hear them again. Every song sounded the same. Boring 😴

Very pop, not much else to say.

Unoffensive, but unremarkable.

Not my type of music

Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 🦓💭🤍 Mix: 🔪👂🩸 Musik: 🙄🥱🤷 Wertung: 🦓(🦓)/5

hey you know what I hated in 2010? a bunch of 'beach' bands showing up out of nowhere, with sounds ranging from lazy disaffected surfy guitar to lazy disaffected keyboards. The children of the CSN give-up-before-you-start generation giving up before they even thought about starting. music: forgotten. (⌐ _ )

This stuff washes over me like it’s nothing at all. It did in 2010 and it does now. I remember when this sound first started emerging as a trend in rock music, and thinking “this doesn’t bode well”. Guess what: I was right.

Calming and somewhat bland

Very nice sounding but would have benefited from some variety, feels like a lot of the same to me. I like reverb as much as the next guy, but when bands over do it (Tame Impala) it loses its effect and ends up making everything sound washed out.

There’s a fine line between relaxing and boring. This is right on the edge. I am both unmoved and unbothered by this album. Reminds me of the shins but less catchy. Where’s the beef?

this didn’t move me much in either direction. could i write poetry to this? n

Background music

Mostly I was just really bored listening to this one, and every song sounded similar enough that I never got shaken out of that feeling Standouts - 2/5

Not bad but kind of forgettable. I sort of forgot that I was listening to it and it never really grabbed my attention. Probably should give this one another listen just to see if there is anything that I missed.

Only one tempo rather dirge-like

3.81 rym leggo dream pop e so già che sto per frantumarmi le palle 2/5 potrebbe essere peggio ma non ha comunque nulla da dirmi

The worst parts of the Beach Boys and Fleet Foxes blended with a bar of Xanax. Every song sounds the same; not every vocal needs to be winsome call down the hallway of an abandoned sanitarium. Not offensively bad, but blech just the same.

ähm, wirklich poppig, und schon beim dritten track weiss ich nicht mehr wie der erste klang. oder ist das noch der erste?

2 easy listening atmospheric but overall boring

Not unpleasant, but I'm also not hearing much that's innovative. Pretty sure I'll have forgotten this album and group ever existed by next week.

This is fine. It's just so basic. Nothing outstanding or distinctive in my opinion.

Another nothing album. How the hell this list of albums you have to hear before you die was compiled by the author I have no idea, maybe he meant 1001 albums they've heard

Day136 - sounds like they should have stopped the list before 2010

I mean it's a nice listen and everything, but nothing special.

these are all the same song, and it's a good song, but i dunno what punch the album is meant to bring to this activity. i guess i recognize how it could be considered important by idk lana del rey and her whole entire thing

Nothing about this album really popped out at me.

Gepflegte Langeweile!

A bit too gentle. 2/5

Not listened yet

90s shoegaze and ballad mixed. Not sure why those ever took off in the alternative genre in the 90's.

Quite pretty, fine to have on in the background at work, but I found it hard to engage with this album. Every time I started actively listening I kinda.. slid away into other thoughts. Undecided if this is a 2 or a 3... I think a 3 indicates I might hunt it out and listen again sometime, which I probably won't do.

Nice, but not nice enough to put into my regular play list.

An album for which the word “mid” was made. It’s pleasant. It’s fine. But it’s thoroughly unexciting, like a trip to DSW for a pair of shoes.

Low key, inoffensive, alright for background music since it’s so innocuous. But therefore nothing particularly interesting or enjoyable.

Sounds like music to make love to. But I wasn't soooo 2/5

In the 2010s there were so many bands like Beach House that just seem to be making music to be background music on an episode of Gossip Girl.

Este grupo me deja frío. Me recuerdan a muchas cosas que ya oí, pero sin brillar ni aportarme (Everything but the girl, The XX, Florence, Cocteau Twins, etc.) No pasa nada por no oír este disco.

Hey you got any weed? This album would be so much cooler if you did! I had never heard of this one and, honestly will probably never look for it again.

I thought I liked this band but I had them confused with something else. I don’t like this band.

Ho, hum.

This is ok, I guess. I'm not super excited by it though

Aika vähän kiinnostavaa kitarapoppista. 2/5

Boring and generic

Nice and completely boring

Never been the biggest fan of "Indie Pop" and this record is a great example of why. For what it is, I respect the effort and talent that creating something like this requires, but to me it sounds like a lot of the same. The songs all melt together, nothing really stands out, and there's just not a lot of variety in the sound.

Nice not crucial

I love "Take Care" but I really have so much trouble distinguishing one song from the next throughout the rest of the album... don't understand why this is considered so exceptional.

Drifty dreamy soft rock. Occasionally likeable but gets increasingly annoying.

All the songs were just okay, none really captivated me.

i didn’t like the voice and indie kinda isn’t my thing now so it just made me like it even less

Honestly, this was a bore and totally uneventful. Maybe “dream pop” is just not the genre for me, but nothing at all about this album caught my interest. Maybe something I’d put on as background noise to fall asleep? Is that why it’s called dream pop?

Electronic Pop. Perfect for elevators in a shopping mall. Does nothing with me.

Dreamy. Not bad but it also wasn’t my fav album ever. Probably 5/10. Can see why people would like it though. It was kinda calming and relaxing and not too crazy but not like what I listen to right now. Kinda just songs that people could love or hate. Album title makes sense though lol

Somewhat forgettable. Album has just finished playing and I can't really recall any standout features!

Okee de erst song losi gad bim sunneufgang luege im zug da hilft. Jaa isch definitiv sunneufgang musig, etz in winti uf em gleis isches bitz langwiilig. Ich find etz es tönt sehr noch musig wo d kritik gern het. Packt mi eifach nöd so Okee nei saulangwiilig

Knocked me off to sleep half way through. This is one of the many shite bands that released this soulless crap during a very bad phase for indie.

Decent background music maybe. Nothing standout on the album. Not sure why it’s on the list.

Never heard of this band before and didn't recognise any tracks on this album. The actual band is great. However, the singer is fucking dreadful. Whoever is producing that cool, interesting music deserves far better than this boring-ass vocalist. Such a shame. When Skynet eventually takes over the planet and we are mere pets for our Robot overlords, every singing bot on Metaverse Radio will sound like this AI-generated Beach House motherfucker. 👎👎

Sounded like something I'd hear in a coffee shop

I don’t like this kind of music and found this album really boring. Might appeal to some, it’s not objectively bad and the lyrics (while also not my thing) were poetic. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Didn’t have one. Rating: 2

I'm new to this band. Theoretically this dream pop stuff is the kind of music I'd expect to like, but... Another reviewer said it was uneventful, and I think that's the right word.

The music reflects the album cover. Plain.

Not a fan of this too slow and mellow. Will give them credit they have some talent just not what I am down for.

This was pretty boring. Parts weren't bad, but I just couldn't get into it. 2/5

Nothing to see here.

Monotone

Not bad, a little boring. 2.5?

It was okay. Lyrics and songs did not really move me. Singer has a good voice. Certainly not what I consider alternative music.

Well that was 55 minutes of my life I will never get back. That was like staring at a beige wall for almost an hour. It was bland, uninteresting, the lyrics made no sense, you could barely tell what was even being said, musically it was a total drag, nothing happened. It was like they were trying to make an album with as little emotion or flavor as possible, and they succeeded. Sarah and Ian might like this but I hated this it didn't make me feel anything and that is the opposite of what music is supposed to do. Blah.

totally "meh" & forgettable. after 2 songs they all blended together & album was about 9 songs too long.

Soporific. I honestly think if only one of these songs were on a mixtape/playlist it would work nicely. But one of the big problems I have with this album is the mid-to-slow tempo near exact sameness of every track. Also important: not advised to play while driving in a northeast blizzard. The other - and I would say largest - aspect is their very-2010s approach to so-called indie music [and yet I fully understand why people like it] the fact that you're listening to a band (or yeah yeah studio layered instruments, we'll all play along) and for the most part can't even pick out a particular instrument that is highlighted. I mean it's a slight exaggeration but ... listen to it. Not really. There's some guitar, there are keyboard lines, pads, organs, it's all very melodic - truly. It's all a wash and just so bland. Incredibly bland. This took me a while with this band to really grasp what was strongly preventing me from making any connection whatsoever to this quite melodic group - and that really nails it. Nothing sticks out at all. Awash in reverb, I suppose there's your dream-pop. I do see why people like it. It's not that I hate it, it's that I feel nothing listening to this. zero. Give me one song as a mellow break - sure, it's nice. But over and over it not only doesn't work but I've already forgotten nearly everything about the record. Not my speed; almost literally. 3/10 2 stars.

It’s either pop or it’s something else. Adding a noun or andject to the fronts smells of superficiality. And I think shoegaze is not to my taste. Pah. 2 stars. Pfui.

Plinky shite

Not my personal favorite genre so it wasn’t as easy to get through, nothing stood out for me.

too subdued for my taste. That plus they sound fairly the same

Pretty but boring

Very high pitched. Didn't like at all

I gave this a few spins back when it came out and my opinion hasn’t really changed. This is just dull.

This sums up 2010 era music for me. It was big and dreamy and hit the big stadium sound at times but it felt a bit bland and empty to me

From the liner notes: Fusing the layered sound of ’90s shoegaze, the passions of ’50s doo-wop, Rolling Stones-style ballads, and just a touch of lullaby, the Baltimore duo forge a style that’s beautiful but tough, mysterious but open. 90s shoegaze?

Came up short for me. One and done.

It was interesting. I don't think I'll come back to it though. 2* for me.

The aspects I liked I can find elsewhere and the aspects I need are nowhere to be found. It was infuriating that every time I expected a crescendo to explode it just fizzled, the beats I expected to drop were caught before the hit the ground.

I didn’t hate it. Kind of boring and one note. Really didn’t like the song with the dissonance. Hard to understand the lyrics. Voice was decent. Meh.

I saw one track by Beach House, Space Song (from a different album), is approaching 1 billion streams on Spotify, so I thought I'd be in for something relatively mindblowing. In reality, I thought Teen Dream was decent, chill background music, with no particular standout track or impactful moment. I wouldn't give it a second spin.

The album cover represents the music very well. Almost nothing exciting. I couldn't tell when one song ended and a new one started. Rating 2.4.

Early 2000s pop not my usual style but is fairly decent

Listening for the second time, the twee bullshit of the lyrics to Zebra kinda pissed me off. It’s not a ‘black and white horse’ it’s an entirely separate species. And why the fuck is this what you’re writing songs about? And then the rest of the album just sort of faded into the background. I guess it’d be good for studying, but I always found Lo-Fi Hip-Hop Beats To Relax/Study To always fit the bill just fine

I do not doubt there are people who this is 100% their shit. I am just not one of those people

Boring and uninspired. Sounded like one long song with nothing unique or original.

Fun album, picked up in the second half

Pretty depressing, and not in the fun angsty 90s alt-rock way. It’s dream-pop only because it puts you to sleep.

Not great

I remember all the rage for this when it came out... its pleasant for sure but not much more than that. Perhaps a little harsh....

Next 5 songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: St. Vincent - Laughing with a Mouth of Blood Phoebe Bridges - Motion Sickness Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal Crumb - Ghostride Craft Spells - For the Ages

The album art is spot on. Pretty enough but nothing interesting, nothing offputting, only memorable in broad outline. A slight upgrade from no background image (or music).

Mostly boring to me. Vocal quality is a little whiny. Music is pretty repetitive. I did like Norway for being dissonant.

I couldn't quite get into this. I've liked one of their songs already which I do really like (Lemon Glow) but this album was very different. That's how artists and albums work though. This one just wasn't for me. Standout Track: Take Care

Not for me. Nothing abut the music or singer that I found to be offensive to my ears, but absolutely nothing about this album to get excited about. Kinda felt I hear hearing the same thing over and over again. I guess if you are looking for something to help make you sleep at night, this album may be for you. I say that as a compliment to the music, but again, this is not for me and I was really unmoved by what I heard. 2

2.5 I was really excited for this one because I like a lot of dream pop and shoegaze, but unfortunately this just didn’t do it for me, and, to be blunt, I think vocalist Victoria Legrand has a large part to do with that. I feel like an important part of either genre is to have a voice or delivery as calming, hypnotic, and nonchalant as the music, and while Legrand’s voice is certainly nice, it felt like overperformance more worthy of an Adele song than dream pop. It completely took me out of the music, even on tracks like Zebra which I feel like had a really strong foundation in its instrumentation. And even then, I would say the instrumentation and atmosphere grow weaker as the album goes on, to the point where the last handful of tracks feel like borderline piano ballads, adding to the Adele vibes. That’s not to say I have any kind of issue with piano ballads or Adele by any means, but that’s not what I’m signing up for when I’m in a dream poppy kind of mood. Anyway, this album was pretty mid. I didn’t outright dislike it, but I just couldn’t get into it, and nothing really jumped out to me. Gonna go listen to some War on Drugs and My Bloody Valentine now.

This is pretty but very boring.

Niet mijn soort muziek, al moet ik bekennen dat het album over na de derde keer wel op me begon te groeien

This was like listening to an album being played at you in an old, abandoned, potentially haunted church. Not for me or the living. If you are allergic to reverb then avoid. I jest a lot but very little of this album spoke to me. Very well produced.

It’s sounds a bit like if Tame Impala never discovered synths.

Chill, deliberate, laid back and almost minimalist. I can definitely see the appeal. This music isn't really my style. 2010's style vocals over synth just don't do it for me. It's also just so repetitive. There's not a lot of different choices with percussion or tempo between tracks. Nearly every track is breathy vocals with synth riff and tambourine in the background. I keep waiting for the songs to keep building, but they just end when I expect there to be a pay off or climax. Again, I think this is a selling point for some people, just not for me.

Was refreshing for the first two songs and then got boring really quickly

Ikkje så glad i indie

So I liked the vocals pretty well, but god dammit there are other ways to evoke an atmosphere than just bouncing on quarter notes every song. It started out pleasant and ended up just boring into my brain

i'm sorry, beach house are boring af. the musical palettes aren't interesting, the compositions aren't interesting, the song structures are bland and tedious. i don't get it.

very calm and dreamy. makes me a bit sleepy. overall, relaxing and not bad, but very boring. i immediately forgot every single song after listening.

Meh. Slow and emphemeral, definitely an aughts sound. Too slow and quiet for my tastes

Dreamy, lush and ethereal sounding. The songs are all roughly in the same tempo. I found the only real difference between one song and the next depended largely on who was singing. The instruments were often indistinguishable from one another, lost in a background of synthesizer. Not my thing but not unpleasant in any way. Just meh.

When this started, I hated it. I found the singer to be so artsy and pretentious and grating. I didn't think I'd make it longer than ten minutes, even after skipping the second half of the first song. I will say that I found the later songs more appealing and listenable, although the singer still seems annoying. I finished the album and just the parts that I liked would probably have gotten three stars.

I know that it's the point, but this is way too sleep-inducing to hold my interest. Probably the least interesting form of indie music in the late '00s-early '10s.

Tästä tykkääminen vaatis jonku tieten mielentilan ku kuuntelee - ja eilen ei sellaista ollut.

I struggled enjoying this one as I didn’t find it particularly engaging. It was slow and boring. I don’t think it was terrible but I don’t think this kind of music is for me. I can understand how other people could enjoy it.

Too miserable and not interesting enough for my liking

If this is meant as an abstract representing dreams, it's more like what you might experience when the end is near and they pull the plug on you. Not necessarily unpleasant, but dead nonetheless. No pace. No presence. No pulse.

Ikkje så glad i indie

This is as bland as a piece of white toast.

I was familiar with Beach House but not this album. Their whole appeal in my eyes is that their music is good to chill and zone out to. It’s ambiance. For me, this album is weaker in that regard than both Depression Cherry and Bloom.

Can we play this album for Cody? Not my jam, but very relaxing and inoffensive. I would play this in the background at a potluck, baby shower, and even a few wedding playlists. Almost like new age church music. Very sweet sounding with simple instrumentation and soft vocals. Invite your friends over for a crisp autumn night of soap making and candle crafting with this record. Lover of Mine steals the show. Silver Soul is solid.

This was pleasant yet somehow a little depressing.

Very dreamy. Not sure I've been in the mood for this. Might give it another shot some other time. Not bad but didn't really get into it

Beach House is a “dream pop” duo. This record is certainly not their best. I feel like they never really honed their craft until “Depression Cherry”. This record sounds repetitive to me honestly. There are some cool tracks (the instantly recognizable “silver soul” which Kendrick Lamar sampled). Overall, I was bored while listening to this one.

Indie pop I guess? I don't mind it, but it doesn't do much for me

Mid. probably wouldn’t listen to unless someone else put it on. + I’d be OK with it.

Nothing wrong with it intrinsically.... but it's dull and acts best as inoffensive background music

This is my first time hearing about Beach House. They are a dream pop/indie pop group from Baltimore. This is their third studio album. The first thing I noticed was the shitty album cover. At first I thought that the album generator website was having issues drawing the album cover image, then realized there was something there....zebra stripes in an eggshell color over a white background....wtf. Negative points for the unoriginal, bland album cover. Moving on to the music, this screams 2010's. This was a time when everyone was doing the "dream pop" thing. This sounds like bands such as Fleet Foxes or Hozier without the folk sound, and more of a bland pop sound. The lyrics are heavy with reverb and sound like they were recorded in a church or a large empty space. The harmonies reached by the male and female voices are beautiful. There is so much harmony and reverb though, that the lyrics get buried by layers of echo, making it hard to understand. It doesn't matter though, because the lyrics are just nonsense. Couple this with the organ/guitar work, and you are left with a coffee house staple. Kind of bland background music. I find myself constantly loosing focus while listening to this record. Hipsters would love this music, hence its success. One song blends into another, and all of a sudden I've been daydreaming through 3 songs. I go back and try to focus, but again, I drift off. I don't know if it is the ethereal nature of this record, but it is super hard to digest. It isn't necessarily bad, it's just super bland. This pairs well with the bland album cover. This album is perfectly beige. Overall, not bad. I probably won't listen again, but I didn't hate it. It's going to be hard to highlight the best and worst songs from this one because everything blended together. Favorite songs: Silver Soul, Norway, Zebra, 10 Mile Stereo Least favorite songs: Real Love, Walk in the Park 2/5 (would have been 3 but what a dumb album cover. -1 for that)

Dream pop should be dreamy, not boring.

Dreamy. Pretty... but kinda boring. Reminds me of the XX, but this one's a little more interesting. There's a few tracks I liked more than the rest, when they managed to do something really weird with polymodality like Norway. (prior listen)

BL: don’t know much about Beach House other than “Space Song” - But I think it’s pretty ok. There‘s not much to it. AL: I thought it was a whole load of meh. “Zebra” and “Used to Be” are good and remind me a lot of early tame impala. All in all it’s minimalistic electro pop which doesn’t really provide a whole lot of substance in my opinion FT: “Zebra” and “Used to Be” 2/5

Not sure why so acclaimed

Behaglig bagatell

Not much of anything interesting here.

Cool vibe to it, but that vibe doesn’t change or develop at all. I only know that one beach house song that went viral on tiktok and every track on this album I thought was that song. It’s not even on this album. Too samey

The start is very weak, the album picks up after this, but not close to on any playlist for now...

Taki nieudany white album

I'm just not really into Dream Pop.

Erinnert mich an Band of Horses, "Everything all the time" und "Cease to begin" waren 06 und 07 respektive. Beide Bands haben aufm selben Label released. Ansonsten selbes Fazit wie bei Band of Horses: gute Einschlagmusik.

Kind of one note isn't it

There’s nothing wrong with this collection of songs. They’re all perfectly fine and inoffensive. But I can’t say that my world has been rocked and I will probably never listen to any of it again…

It’s competent indie rock with a capable singer. Unfortunately, the songs don’t seem to go anywhere.

Smooth, mellow pop

very mediocre

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzzzz.zzzzzzz. zzzzzzzzzzz

Нейтральное, 2+

what even is that

Best Song: Silver Soul. One of those quietly rising and building songs that feels like it has an element of inevitability to it. Worst Song: Norway. I'm not musically literate enough to fully explain what it is that I don't like here, but something about the backing instrumentals feels... off. Overall: It's fine. Very sleepy, kind of quiet background pop. Not worth paying close attention to, but serviceable to throw on while having a quiet night in.

Beach House from Baltimore, MD, USA. Dream Pop; Indie Pop Active from 2006-Present (2022) Teen Dream is their 3rd album. Singles: Zebra (#14, US), Used to Be (#13, US), Norway (#41, UK; #12 MEX), Lover of Mine, 10 Mile Stereo. I've never even heard of them before. The genre is something that I have come to appreciate and enjoy over the past couple years listening to the albums on this list. I will definitely continue to listen to it in the future. 2.5/5

Not for me. Liked the first song, but I thought this was pretty forgettable album.

I've never really been able to get into beach house. Not bad to listen to though.

This album gives impressions of other much better albums that you could be listening to. Soft lilting tunes are more interesting when it's not one or two lines repeated for four minutes and thirty one seconds. Do yourself a favour and just listen to the Beach boys or Sarah Blasko. Favourite track - not sure it all sounded like one track. not horrible but ends up just being there not grabbing your attention.

Boring

If the Cocteau Twins and the Fleet Foxes had a love child it would be Beach House. This style of dream pop is like mellow shoegaze. The first track is the best song on the album, but the dreamy vocals and the “wall of sound” effect wears out its welcome fast. I could have sworn that the lead vocalist was a guy but it’s a woman. Kinda like how I always thought the lead singer of Rhye was female 🤷‍♂️

Dense. Kinda boring

Surprisingly mediocre offering from them, IMO

Listened Before? N Very ethereal and dreamy. I found it a bit sleepy and uninspiring. It sounds like the early 2010s for sure. Lots of hipster experimentation back then and it shows through in this one. Not necessarily a bad thing, but others did it better. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Silver Soul

It's kinda ehh. Didn't know you could dilute dream pop this much. It's like cheap vanilla ice cream.

If you were to ask me what I thought early '00s Indie music sounded like, this would be the example I could give. Surprisingly, this is my first time hearing this album or this band (unless it was playing in a Starbucks), so ranking this as a must-listen album that sounds like every other album from it's time period and not seeing albums I've heard of makes me scratch my head. 2.5/5.

não curti muito, pouco empolgante

Sooo boring

Kind of a mellower Band of Horses vibe. Maybe a bit of Lord Huron at moments. But not quite as good. Has that dreamy, echoey, psychedelic feel. This is one of those bands I've heard mentioned or played on KEXP a million times over the years but couldn't name one of their songs. Kind of background music for me

When this came out I was kicking around with a few people who loved this whole sound. It was also in constant rotation on triple j. I always thought this sort of hipster indie pop was lame though. It lacks oomph, and I know that's kinda the idea, but I guess it's just not my thing. 2/5.

4/10 what's all the fuss?

I listened 3 times but it just never held my interest.

-The guitar riff and drum fill in "Better Times" is fun -The orchestral crashes at the end of "10 Mile Stereo" are cool -Those were really the only interesting points in the album. Just not very interesting to me
