Mid house
Nice and soothing albeit slightly dull
Enjoyable chill vibes
'Zebra' is great, the rest ok.
Well this is an odd one, very dreamy to say the least
sweet and chill
The melancholy in the album did that thing that melancholy can do - both absolutely connect with my mood and provide a distinctly uncomfortable externalisation of my mood. I really quite liked this album, but at the same time didn’t. Weird.
I had listened to Once Twice Melody from 2022 already and liked it a bit more, which surprised me. There’s nothing wrong with this album, but none of the songs really clicked with me.
This album suffers from lack of interesting aspects. Neither music nor vocal are compelling. At the same time they are not straight bad. I could accept it as background music. I guess dream pop is not for me.
Definitely dreamy. Freaked out a bit on “Lover of Mine” for how dang close it is to Vampire Weekend’s “Unbearably White.”
Cool dream pop.
Honestly kind of nice music. I don't even know what you would really call that, I doubt I will remember even a single song, but it was also nothing that bothered me on this album. But not really what I am listening for if I want to listen to music, but this list certainly has very wide range of different styles.
Great soundtrack for bickering about who should've looked at the map.
Some good songs, but otherwise a bit boring indie guitar stuff
I've never heard of Beach House before and my first impression - before listening - was that I probably wouldn't like it... BUT, then I started the album. Every song is just the kind of music that I tend to like. I like the "dream pop" category it has been placed in. If this is dream pop, then I want to hear more. I liked the immediately from the start. Standouts: Zebra, Used to Be 3/5
sounds like something I would've put on in the background while I studied in college.
Perfectly fine but not outstanding to me in any particular, pretty run of the mill soft-rock alternative, with its million dubiously differentiated subgenres.
Not terrible. But isn't really my thing. Too much gentle pop sounds going on.
Tylsää mutta ah niin mukavaa musiikkia. Rauhoittavaa, klassikko-indiee
I thought that it was going to hate this. I did not. It's pretty pleasant for the most part. It did start to bore me a bit as it went on. The "preciousness" of the music can get old. I'll probably listen to this album and band more in the future. I think it might be better with more listens.
Dreamy zone out times
My first time listening to a full Beach House album and this is exactly one of those not turning the radio off but not turning it up albums for me. It was fine, but nothing particularly stood out for me. Other than my wife being utterly convinced it was some secret weird Vampire Weekend album. From the two or three Beach House songs I'd ever sampled before this is pretty much exactly how I expected this one to go. Other than my wife's Vampire Weekend bit.
Beach House is real main character music. This album is really good but I prefer their next two
Dia 2.
Highlight: Zebra
It is music to fall asleep too. For what it was or was trying to do I guess it works but not my thing. This could maybe be setbreak music but it's just too damn chill so I don't know
Norway, Walk in The Park are my highlights. Solid album with a common overall vibe. Calming, peaceful and brings some nostalgia. Would listen again.
Soft and tranquil, always fun to learn the origins of tiktok sounds
Dull!
The album feels overproduced and it was tough to really get into it. It’s definitely an outlier to a lot of 2010s music which I appreciate. I like a lot of the ideas here but it really didn’t do anything special for me. I’ll give it 3 stars to be generous.
Ah started writing a review and lost it haha! I really like dream pop and hadn't heard of Beach House so was quite excited to listen to this. I really liked the opening guitar and track in general which was a promising start, lovely and relaxing. Now as the album goes on I find myself hoping for something more unusual or interesting to jump out at me... It's lovely but not super special.
Beach House has always been more of a vibes band than a songs band, and you can really feel their Urban Outfitters shoegaze coming together here. I prefer Bloom, tbh.
normal
This is a solid modern alt pop style album. As far as contemporary music goes this has a nice feeling of old styles with modern sound. It’s not something that I would listen to all the time but given the right mood or setting this music is pretty enjoyable. It’s not too complicated but the layers of sound make it a good album. 6.5/10
Not their best, but an impressive and meticulously crafted album
Nothing wrong or offensive with this, but doesn't exactly jump through the speakers or headphones. It is a tick too sleepy even by the standards of dream pop, of which one much prefers the lilting, rather than the droning, variet, as manifested here. In fact, this drones to the point of being inert. One would like to compare this effort to their other records, but save for the odd outlier, they are quite difficult to tell part. Something like eight times now have they been have been on the same drone-rinse-repeat cycle. If Beach House are this generation's Cocteau Twins or My Bloody Valentine, one feels mainly pity for this generation.
Between 3 and 4 on this. Decent stuff, last song was the best
Decent
I know the main song of this album, Silver soul, very well from the internet and memes, but over all the rest of the album sticks true to a theme which I always respect. But again not really my type of music, but I can see some moods where this would suit perfectly, gloomy rainy day, where I am not happy/positive. Like a nice wine with cheese.
Very mellow, soft music. Nothing so catchy as to be distracting but still pleasant to listen to. Favorite - Used To Be.
3 Love all songs!
Fav song: Take Care
Eh. Mellow, forgettable.
Very sleepy, but pleasant.
I like me some good dream pop now and then. Based on the Wikipedia article, I was looking forward to listening. Unfortunately, I don't understand the hype. While the music was mostly pleasant and totally fine background listening, I found it to be very shallow.
That intro guitar is off to an incredibly great start! I'm familiar with Beach House which jumped onto my radar from the dreck in the last couple of years only but had not heard this particular album. I like this atmospheric band that has slight echoes of MGMT in certain places but seems fresh and new in their approach. It's a good album but not necessarily one I will seek out again.
This was great ... for the first little while, but I grew tired of them. The 'instant five!' I was feeling after the first two songs dwindled considerably over the course of the album. Though I appreciated all of the repetitive electronica, I felt like I was watching the soundtrack to a murky coming-of-age teen drama that only goes in circles. Granted, there would've been a time in my life that I may have thought this was a great use of 49 minutes on repeat, but eventually you get kicked out of your apartment, have your cell phone shutoff and get your car towed because you've refused to grow up or change. This is the album that fills in time before all of that happens.
Beach House is a name I feel like I have heard a lot in the last 10 years, and not just from planning vacations. I'm sure I've heard them on Sirius XMU, and know that they are a much buzzed about indie band. But I couldn't have named or successfully Heardled any of their songs. I listened to "Teen Dream" in two parts, both in the car, but those two rides a mere hour apart found me in quite different moods. I was quite unimpressed by the first half of the album, but when I got back in the car I was a little bit agitated, and Beach House soothed me and calmed me down. By the end of the album I was really enjoying it. I went back to figure out why I had heard the name so much, and found that "Teen Dream" was one of the most acclaimed albums of 2010. Pitchfork even named this the third best dream pop album of all time, right behind Mazzy Star, which I enjoy, and the #1 ranked "Heaven or Las Vegas" from the Cocteau Twins, which the record will show I really don't like. Mood and emotion are deeply impacted by music (and vice versa). Is dream pop a very varied genre, with some stuff I like and some I don't? Or is it partly that how we respond to music is sometimes so dependent on mood that it's hard to fairly judge or compare things listened to at different times/moments in our lives?
Kinda blah, but in a good way.
This melancholy material is pretty nice, but boring. Sounds boring to play and to listen to. Its not bad, just strictly vanilla missionary. I would sleep to it. Not super exciting even as chill-out music. When that lil beat machine kicks in you know they were in their bag. Lover of Mine stood out as exceptional.
This album starts off the way an album should. Zebra starts out with a stripped-down, dream-like sound, until it slowly grows into a full song by the end. It shows and doesn't tell what they are capable. With smooth melodies, interesting lyrics, and a powerful voice, they manage to set the stage for what I hope will be a very interesting experience, while also not giving too much away. (Also the main stanza of the chorus says among us. 10/10 album already.) The next song, Silver Soul, continues from where Zebra left off. With a fuzzy, pulsating backbone, it doesn't need a build-up to start the song off, it just launches you right into it. This song sounds like happy shoegaze, and makes me very excited for what's to come. The next song, Norway, seamlessly transitions from Silver Soul with a simple driving drum beat. This song feels more behind the beat and gives a very drowsy feel. The quivering synths give it a very laid-back sound. In this song, the vocals seem to take part as another instrument, adding depth and secondary melodies to the instrumentation. The next song, Walk in the Park, reminds me a lot of The Kills. The vocals have a very Alison Mosshart flow to them, and the singer has a voice similar to her as well. Other than that, this song doesn't really showcase anything new, but is still an enjoyable track. Used to Be is in the same boat as Walk in the Park. While it doesn't offer anything new, it still maintains interest. I believe this could be because of the formula I'm seeing them use. The combination of organic and electronic to create a sort of dreamlike trance while also maintaining that upbeat poppy sound. While I enjoy this song, I do think that they may need to add something new to the table to freshen up the sound and keep my attention. This is the same with Lover of Mine, and Better Times. Though Better Times did have a bit of an interesting change in terms of arrangement, which was something I hadn't heard before. Unfortunately, the rest of the album didn't really change or evolve much, and it all kind of sounded the same. But the songs that were good were good. This album does suffer from a better first half than last half. Favourite song: Silver Soul Least favourite: Take Care
Pretty chill, didn't fall in love but some good tracks
Ok album, music sounded all similar, singing as well. Didn’t move me on the first listen
New artist! Next listening to “depression cherry” 2,5/5
A bit slower than expected. Reminded me of Tame Impala circa 2015. Gods listen for a long drive
Fyrsta hlustun var ágæt. Þarf að renna aftur í gegn. Held hún vinni á með tímanum.
3-
Light and dreamy but not as lush as the other album I heard. Didn’t give the emotional punch.
I have a long, drowsy history with Beach House. I have to work today, so here's hoping this doesn't knock me out. Eh, I mean - this wasn't the worst. It stayed in the background but at the same time it didn't sound completely generic. I could see it working it's way to a four some day.
This is dream pop, I guess? It's fine as things go. I found the wonkiness of 'Norway' appealing, but much of the rest falls into that bracket of music that seems like critical catnip but which I am yet to be utterly charmed by. There's a soporific quality to much of the sound, indistinct and pillowy, buoyed by coos and sighs that lull and beguile. The problem is that it all comes out as a big powder-puff yawn, and if you're not mentally drifting away in a Limehouse opium den then it doesn't quite resonate. Still, you can hear the Big Star influences and all those looping, chiming noises are pleasant. It don't get the ol' krovvy pumping though, yeah?
It,was,fine
Didn't like it all initially but grew on me as the album progressed. Used to be and Better times were the picks for me, seemed to have the most going on. Very pitchforky in that they are another band that get huge praise from them and sound just okay to me.
Had a very mellow dream like sound to it which I enjoyed. I think I might like it more with some extra listens but it was quite nice as background music. Highlights were "Real Love" and "Silver Soul"
Never heard of this group before..... I barely noticed I was listening to it while working tbh. Completely inoffensive chilled background music. Nothing grabbed me, nothing offended me. Beige
Calming
"Dream Pop" might be one of the most pretentious genres ever. Seeing that this was dream pop, I was ready to hate this. But, lucky for me, I didn't hate it. In fact, it was kinda nice... Until about half-way through when I got real sick of everything sounding the same and never picking up. In small doses, I think I could dig this. As a whole album, it's soporific. Which I guess was in the name so I can't say I wasn't warned. Anyway, I didn't hate it but I also couldn't take a whole album of it so it gets a middling score.
This was a pretty good album. Nothing that was on here was going to blow any minds, if you know the band then you could expect pretty much all of what you're going to get from this, if that kind of thing appeals to you then you're probably going to like it, which I did. 3.5/5
Interesting but I won't rush out and buy the album.
Not much to say because there’s not much going on here.
It's very pretty, but it's not something I loved. It's fine.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Norway (3) 2 - Walk in the Park (4) 3 - Zebra (1)
Nothing notable
Ihan miellyttävä. Tykkäsin kovasti laulajan äänestä. Suosikkikappaleet: Zebra, Used to Be
I like this band but this isn’t the album I lean toward. The next two are much more complete.
I'd obviously listened to dream pop before, but I never knew that's what it was I was listening to. This was a good introduction to it. It was comfy! I think that's the best way I can describe this album. By the end it got a little samey, but if you're looking for this kind of music then that's not necessarily a bad thing.
A nice trippy listen
2/10, 20%
I like Beach House, I don't love Beach House. Hard to believe this album was released in 2010, sounds like 2022. They didn't invent Dream Pop, but they really make it sound good.
Dreamy. slightly melancholic, but pleasant indie pop. This was nice to have on in the background while doing other things.
Very smooth, I like Beach House, not an everyday listen but Space Song is one of my favorites.
This was not an artist that I was previously familiar with, but I did enjoy the soft, easy, melodic stylings, especially Used to Be, Better Times, and Take Care.
Cuatro
dreamy and pretty but hard to focus on
Always love some beach house
Sway and sleep to this underwhelming album. Nicely constructed but doesn’t get you where it matters.
Just good chill jams. Nothing to crazy and the songs may be too similar at times, but just was an enjoyable listen, especially at sunset. Not sure if would play too much again but it’s music for a specific mood
Simple and easy beauty, like enjoying a sunrise before the day begins. Better Times is my favorite track
No sé si me gusta o me cansa
Enjoyed it a lot, will certainly revisit it.
Wasn’t into it at first but grew on me a little bit.
Chill and dreamy melodies but nothing too stand out n quite dull after a while
some good tracks but i don't think i'll be digging this out too often
not really my cup of tea but can tell its very well done. Would have to be in a certain mood to listen to it again.
I remember this sound, and other bands did it better than these guys.
3.5
Fine background music. Inessential.
Cool to hear the Money Trees sample Very chill 3.5 stars
An interesting alternative album, couldn't put my finger on who they sounded like but enjoyed it. Still waiting for that "wow" album that has been missing from the last week or two. This one aint it.
Nice album, very smooth production and vocals. Not as intriguing as some of their other projects but still a fun listen. Favourite songs are Zebra, Silver Soul (classic sample), Walk in the Park, Used to Be (fav), Real Love and Take Care (fav). Beautiful outro.
I love the dreamy sleepy soundscapes of Beach House. This album is not my favorite, though. The vocals seem out of place, and their 'sound' is underdeveloped. I think first time listeners should skip this album & go straight to Depression Cherry - that album is ethereal, wavy & emotional.
This is a good album to listen to on a rainy day
Dream pop is a genre I he'd never previously heard of, but it describes this album well. It was quiet, melodic and relaxing. It wasn't bad.
Ok
ya know it's beach house it's ethereal and weird and ok
Certainly has that dreampop/shoegaze element. Enjoyed, although the songs do start resembling one another.
I personally never got that much into Beach house. I don't mind them as a band, I just think most of the songs have the same style and maybe one of them is worth mentioning.
Godammit I like this genre. I know it's not very inventive and gutsy but it's easy listening and chill. Reminds me of a lot of bands that I suddenly realise are not very original. If all the best tracks from all the 'dream-pop' bands were put in a 'greatest hits' album then that would deserve to be in the top 1001 maybe.
Better than I expected. Very dreamy and relaxing/depressing. Songs do kind of blend together tho
Helt klart ett mysigt album!
Having just come down with COVID this was exactly the languid experience I was after.

I always love it when I refresh this website to see what today's album is and it's something completely new to me -- the artist(s), the songs, the album, and sometimes even the genre -- and I especially love it when it's contemporary like this one is. And it's quite good. These songs are compositionally and harmonically interesting to my ear, and they are performed and recorded superbly well. Such great style and texture here, and I love that no one voice or instrument is pushing its way to the front. Everything blends and bends together so beautifully. I will listen to this one again and also explore their other albums.
This is probably the album Zach Braff plays in an attempt to make people think he's deep. He's not.
Some nice synth textures here. Overall a little too downtempo and one-note for me. I feel like good headphones and a joint may improve the album though.
Never heard this band before- I like the sound! - As it was proposed, this makes me think a little about a beach house. Some nervous excitement, some calm warmth, some beauty, some chill. - The first track, "Zebra" is such a lovely buildup. I was really let down by the drum tones/performance when it finally hits though at 2:20. The kick and (more specifically) the snare sound so weak. Regardless, the rest of the track is really nice! Great chord progression and textures. I sort of back-burnered the rest of the album and didn't really focus too hard on elements beyond this first track though. Nice album!
Not bad. Pleasantly surprised.
It's lovely, the first track is like a warm hug. However, the problem with this lovely dreampop is that over the course of a whole album, nothing much happens. Nothing happens very beautifully, but still... Nothing happens.
Good background music.
This was kind of bland, I don’t really like this kind of indie.
A favourite artist of my teenage kids. I thought it was OK - though sounded a lot like the Fleet Foxes
This layman’s opinion on Beach House was that they have a great, unique (and therefore list-worthy) sound, but not necessarily many great tunes to match it. Did this album change my mind? Maybe not, but on this particular day its dreamy vibes proved to be the perfect soundtrack to my walk. I’ll give it a hearty 3.5 stars.
It was ok. Bit forgettable. I thought they were great when I saw them live but I have little desire to listen to their records
One of my main complaints with dream pop is that it can be too, well, dreamy. It ends up coming across as monotonous, unexciting, and a bit boring. This album pretty much fell into that pit trap for me. It was pleasant enough to listen to, but I wouldn't seek it out again. That said, Zebra and Take Care (the album opener and closer) broke the mold a little bit, and did catch my attention as standout tracks.
Norway blew my mind...you hear it too right? (⊙﹏⊙)
Good album; but I'm not a big fan of the "Dream Pop" genre.
Beach House’s dreamy, ethereal sound goes down easy. I put it on last night as I laid down to sleep and was out before the end of the second song. Well-rested today I listened again. This time I made it through all the songs fully conscious. As each song started to lose my attention I started thinking about dreamy albums I like - for example The Virgin Suicides soundtrack by Air or Sigur Rós. That lead me to wonder how much more was left to listen to on this album so I could switch to one of those. Even the album cover is so light and forgettable that every time I went to the 1001 web page I kept thinking there was a problem loading the page. I sat down for a third listen determined to focus more and follow along with the lyrics. Before I made it halfway through I found myself reading the news as Beach House faded into the background. It was more pleasant in that context. This album seems to be best listened to while focused on something else. TEEN DREAM is like plain oatmeal at a breakfast buffet - not terrible or unacceptable but also not something I’ll choose if there are omelets, cinnamon rolls, sausage or French toast.
I LOVE Bloom, but I just wasn't digging this one as much. 7/10.
Não conhecia e gostei bastante
take care is such a nostalgic song for me <3
I can only imagine what Nigel is going to say about Teen Dreams. Yeah, this was fine. You might say it's a stirring reminder that good things can happen when you step out of your comfort zone. But I wouldn't. Would make a good support band for The Chuckle Brothers if one of them hadn't died.
An alright album. Nice background music. No real standout tracks. Just middle of the road average. Some songs more enjoyable than others.
Great, chilled out start to the week, not going to listen to it again but was a nice way to kick the week off
Good music, but not really my preferred genre.
it was alright but nothing special. i liked it but it didnt stand out atall to me really and all the tracks blended together kinda but not in a good way 3/5 alright but not amazing
Typical Indie. No better nor worse from anything else in its genre.
Pop. Ni fu ni fa.
floats along nicely, makes a pleasant enough layered sound and the vocal and songwriting hold my interest to a point but I'm not sure its anything more than a decent bit of shoegazey dream pop. 3/5
Bueno
Pleasant enough. Doesn’t make my eardrums bleed but neither does it thrill me
I listened to it twice but couldn’t hear it. Just became background. I should try again.
Ok Dazed off a bit
Not really blown away or anything. Better then "Meh" but I likely wouldn't listen to anything else they do. Kinda reminded me a bit of Florence and the Machine.
udmærket indie/dream-pop
Not bad for dream pop, but a bit too sedate for my tastes.
ok, bit fleet foxes, 2000's gentlecore
Nice enough album, good in the background
I expected to like it more. It kind of sounded a bit samey to me. I really like Beach house but it didn't hit as well as I'd hoped
Background music is an accurate description. Had great time listening to it but don’t think I would listen again deliberately.
Not bad-- good background music for working or chilling.
Teen Dream by Beach House (2010) The languid sounds produced by this duo have a remarkably attractive quality. Slow tempos and lush legato phrasings seem to wash over the listener with warmth and comfort. Even the peculiar wavering pitch effect (“Norway”) is disciplined and not off-putting or distracting. Melodies, chord structures, and arrangements are sufficiently atypical to keep the listener on his/her toes. Verdant, voluptuous keyboards and simple but competent guitar lines soothe the ears. Percussion is understated and bass is well subdued. Victoria Legrand’s vocal performance may lack formal excellence, but she makes even grievances seem maternal and honest, with sufficient feminine strength to sustain interest. The overall effect would make a man sit down and shut up. A couple of tracks have what sounds like hum and tape hiss, a puzzling (intentional?) feature in the digital age. Lyrics are neither flashy nor deep, and appropriately visual—obscure, and packed with enough inscrutable metaphors to keep a fan of Ezra Pound intrigued. This album makes for a very pleasant first-time listen. If your hair is long enough to cover your earbuds, you could listen to this album during a boring Zoom session. Try it and tell me how it goes. 3/5
Dreamy. Pretty... but kinda boring. Reminds me of the XX, but this one's a little more interesting. There's a few tracks I liked more than the rest, when they managed to do something really weird with polymodality like Norway.
spacey psychedelic lofi you can see how this inspired later indie 3.5
Okay but I wasn't in the mood.
Some were good. Mostly flowy sleepy music. Too slow for my taste but well made
Forgot about this one
All of it sounded too similar. Needed something else
Still a vibe.
It's ok I guess. A little bland. I usually quite like this kind of music but it just struck me like someone heard a couple of Yo La Tengo's dreamier numbers and tried to stretch them out over an album.
Very nice with a couple of great tracks but ultimately couldn’t help wondering why bother when Mercury Rev and Grizzly Bear are available
It has a nice dreamy sound, which alternates between pretty relaxing and slightly dull
7/10
Dreampop. Synthy, floaty, a bit guitary. Strangely effective on drives in the dark.
3/5
It's not bad but doesn't jump out at me. Like indie rock of the time but not really memorable. 6/10.
Nice, but I don't have much else to say about it? Very pleasant, but I coudn't name a track I'd want to listen to actively. Good to have on in the background
Nice, dreamy sound. Not sure if it beats the Cocteaus or Sigur Ros though.
Very pleasant
"Don't I know you better than the rest?" It's a question lots of great music asks, but usually not in the beginning of the text. But it seems like Beach House wear their hearts on their sleeve here. To me, the approach is slightly incongruous with the genre, and obscures the rich texture with few ingredients. Hardly sparse, but not over-subtle, a little loud: It's a grower. Perfect length, though, obviously.
Enjoyed it was very mellow...all about relationships.
It was ok
An alright listen, didn’t stick with me afterwards
Melodic album that's easy to listen to.
It nice, peaceful, and frequently ethereal. I enjoy the sound, but after listening to it several times, i feel like i lose my place and have no idea what song i'm listening to. It is pleasant but very samey.
Its that laid back alt sound. I like how Norway opens up. Meh.
Is this a perfect album? Every song is solid. Each is pretty and has a hook. Each stays faithful to the shared woozy mood of the album. The "soundscape" is beautfiul. I can't understand what the heck Nico is singing, no matter how long she draws out the vowels at the end of each phrase. But something about it all adds up to an energy-sapping experience. It's like trudging up a beautiful, steep sand dune and the view is no different at the top, just more dunes. Maybe Beach House + hangover + returning to desk work after river work is not the right equation. B+
Good album, just not much differentiation between songs. Every song felt relatively similar and I didn’t notice much distinctness. However the songs were well composed and I enjoyed them.
Liked the bit that I heard. I'll come back to this.
Very pretty and moody. I like it but got a bit bored as it went on.
An effortless listen. Not the most memorable of albums, but really enjoyable when you’re in the right frame of mind for it.
Pop. Dance.
Bland indie. Just okay.
Too mellow for me. Reminds me of Matt Berry.
dreamy, uplifting, not my thing
3.3
Totally acceptable 2010 brit pop
pretty good album, nothing springs out as of tracks but an enjoyable listen nonetheless
i liked this way more back in 2010
Good background music
Super chill and relaxing!
Ethereal, pretty, but a bit boring for me hence the middling score just reaching 3.
A nice listen but not quite my tempo.
Very vibey. Will be good for studying
I like the sound of this -
2 or 3 very good songs. The rest ok.
No le puse atención
OK, but got a bit bored of it
Pretty run-of-the-mill 2010 pop rock. Reminded me of Vampire Weekend.
Hauchwarme 3.3
Pop.
It’s ok. Nothing really adding to the genre but nothing special.
Very cruisy and easy to listen to. A good album to listen to during a long haul on a bus. He echoes her vocals nicely to make that dreamy sound.
Bueno a secas, Nada espectacular.
kinda ok
Meh
I kept forgetting there was music playing. I've heard this album at a house party before so I don't need a re-listen, I am giving it a third star for how unoffensive it is
Sólido. Aguanta.
this is absolutely _fine_
It was ok
“They call me mellow yellowww”
It was not bad. Daily easy to listen to but it was not my type of music. I only listened to a few songs.
Dream pop. Calming.
Very dreamy, but wasn’t necessarily in that vibe, but still good
Not my cup of tea but it wasn't awful.
Beach House is a mellow, psychedelic, vibe for stewing in the atmosphere, but not my favorite of their work. Still good, but they hadn't refined their signature musical sound quite yet.
Nice enough. Inoffensive indie, maybe a little bland, but happy to have it on in the background.
Not big into dream pop
Some ok stuff
Sleepy, probably best enjoyed being played on vinyl, with a joint or tea. Songs can be a little long, but it was never unpleasant. I dislike using the word "hypnotic" but it probably fits in this case. Favorite tracks: "Real Love", "Walk in the Park"
I'm not a fan of whatever this is. I know that music is just sounds and noise, but if they just didn't sing and played music I would be much happier with the album.
Not really my thing
Teen Nightmare?
..
Just another mid album that I don’t know what to do with. But this band I never heard of has 15 million monthly listeners on Spotify so what do I know.
3 - lethargic mood music. Might be good in the right setting.
This album is so bland I forgot that I was listening to it a few times. Popped it on to cook dinner, and whist never offended or put off by anything on the album, I was equally neither inspired or intrigued. It was just... there, 16 years after listening to them for the first time and feeling equally underwhelmed.
It's fine. Nothing special, basic shoegaze. This one in particular is pretty boring to me. Would not listen again.
zzzzzzzzz
I remember Beach House being Pitchfork darlings years ago, but avoided them due to the hype. Now that I'm listening, my original assumption wasn't too far off. It's dream pop/alt rock that doesn't try too hard. Perfectly enjoyable for passive listening, but as soon as I start actively paying attention, the music seems more vapid. I can see where this would be enjoyable for some, and there may be artists similar to Beach House that I would enjoy, but this album strikes me as a siren song for hipsters in their 30's. 2/5
A bit too sleepy for me. I never really got into this era of indie, the songs are pleasant enough but there is nothing to hook me.
Superestimado.
I was bored.
It is fine. I remember when this came out and there were so many rave reviews. I was not a fan then, and I am still not a fan. 4/10 Top song Zebra
For a dream pop it’s quite bland and one-dimensional.
The lack of album cover definitely threw me for a loop. Thought the site was broken.
Every song goes on foreverrrrrr yawnnnnnn. Bloody indie music, just dull, just stop
I was pretty disappointed with this cause I really love the opening track a lot. Rest of it was completely blah and samey
It's the week of the weak. Not a single album in the last 5 days was compelling or T1001-worthy. I know the bands name but not their music and was intrigued with the listener counts on this album. My mind is blown that 46M people have sat through the entire opening track, "Zebra". It's repetitive and boring. 315M people listened to "Silver Soul", why? The world has turned upside down! My god it went nowhere in 5 minutes. 79M people listened to "Take Care", I was not one of them, I was so uninterested by that point I listened to the first 2 mins and was done. This was a completely boring album to listen to. Who is the crowd that loves this monotonous vanilla blah wall of sound? You guys ever heard of a guitar or a drum? Beach House is the food equivalent of Poi. 2 stars, damn I need a Red Bull or something now.
++: Lover of Mine, Better Times +: Walk in the Park, Used to Be, 10 Mile Stereo, Real Love, Take Care +-: Zebra, Silver Soul, Norway 5,4/10
Non offensive lump of nothing
Very minimalist. I wouldn't mind having a track or two on, but as a whole album it all bleeds into itself.
Hintergrundmusik
Everything on here except for 10 Mile Stereo felt boring to me. 5/10
Idk, nothing really did much for me. If I were to revisit, it’d probably be just the track 10 Mile Stereo. Maybe Better Times too.
Not really my jam but not too bad
Ethereal indie pop. Innocuous and pleasant enough but uninteresting.
While this is not bad music, only a single song had a soul. The rest is bubble gum and nothing special. It’s like they heard something of the era and decided we can do that too.
Forgettable
I have literally been more excited watching paint dry. 2
I can’t believe this but I’m giving it a 2. Not that great. Don’t understand the hype. But it’s the sort of thing I theoretically would like. But I really didn’t enjoy this much at all. Boring.
I'd never heard of this but it was somehow exactly what I expected (pejorative).
Robert Dimery: "Guys you have to hear this, it's prime 70s stoner folk rock!" Me: "...this came out in 2009." Nice aesthetic, hardly must-hear. Whereas most of what I support on this list is ahead of its time or unique, this is neither.
Not great
Blech House. Album art is already enough of a tip-off towards its blandness but this could only count as dream pop if dreams were always about white or off-white wallpaper. A better recommendation would be Memories In Beach House by City Pop supergroup Seaside Lovers comprised of Akira Inoue, Masataka Matsutoya, & Hiroshi Sato which is a beautiful, lush, dreamy, exotic record and actually does have a teen dream on the cover as well.
First listen…. Followed on from Simon and Garfunkel on my list and the intro to Zebra is a perfect dovetail between the two albums decades apart. Got a very traditional indie vibe. Nice, but not particularly attention grabbing so far. 2.5 - it’s ok. Don’t think I’ll be back again though. Maybe 2
fluffy dream melodies, mostly without substance and impact
412/1089 - There are other tempos besides 100 BPM you know? And other chords besides major and minor triads. You could even not use any chords and instead have lines which imply harmony! But instead it's the same tempo and chord changes for an hour which reject any fundamentals of what makes music interesting to listen to.
Beautiful but not fully my vibe
I don’t understand what shoegaze means
boring lift music... not aged well since the 2010's
Pleasant. But, ultimately, dull as ditch water. (I'm on a stinker of run here)
So dreamy.. and by that I mean it just about puts you to sleep.
Pipe this into the baby room at day care, and those babies will nap like fiends. It's music, but nothing stands out as extraordinary.
So boring. I don't know what dream pop is, but pretty sure it's not for me. I gave up and listened to Breach by Twenty One Pilots again instead.
Pretty boring. Chill emo music is really not my favorite genre.
More like a 2.75. I feel like this album really found its footing in the later half. Another one of those albums that you have to be in the right mood for. Also, another band where I could take a greatest hits album from them, but not individual albums. Well, with Bloom as an exception maybe.
At best this album is knock of MGMT or something. But mostly it's just fluff, the kind of stuff that defined this boring era in music. 2/5.
Same-ish
Meh
Pleasant
I liked the first two tracks, then the reverb, tremolo and the aetherial vocals became a bit too repetitive. 2.75/5
Beige
My only previous knowledge of this band was that Elegy to the void song that James put on a playlist so I was excited to try this. Sadly nothing on this album as good as that song. 10 Mile Stereo was my favourite
Wouldn't describe this as an album I needed to listen to before death. Sounds like someone has listened to a Fleet Foxes album and decided it was too edgy
The first track was nice but the others were all a bit same. Nothing stood out for me.
Heard Before? Yup, when it came out. Notes: - I appreciate a narrow minimalist formula, and I like the tiny tweaks they make to differentiate songs. - that said, simplistic arpeggiated leads, static pads, unvarying drumbeats and bored sounding vocals do not an album make, no matter how much they are recombined. - the entire mix sounds like it was filtered with a pillow, like post-punk drained of all edge and thrill. - yet another band blue-mixing their female vocalist for zero reason. Verdict: Beige music for beige people. Listen Again? Nope. There's just no reason to seek this out.
Kind of disappointing to be honest. I was expecting more. I've heard of these guys and had heard good things about this particular album. But, it didn't live up to it. It just stayed in neutral and never picked up.
I disliked this album in 2010 and I still dislike it now. It has all the elements of things I should like and there are very similar bands that I like, but this group just feels extra whiny.
Fine I guess for what it is but very boring. 2.5
Is this album really just one long song? If you're not looking at it move through the list, it all just blends together. I mean, it's fine enough music and the voice is lovely. But what's to grab onto here? Having listened a few times, I'll say it's perfectly fine background music. I don't think I could tell you three lyrics they used in a row, though. It does NOT belong on this list. Everyone that hasn't heard it is going to be just fine. They haven't really missed anything interesting or life-changing. Go listen to Cocteau Twins or Dead Can dance or Enya even. At least you can tell when a new song starts with them. While there's nothing annoying at all about this album aside from it's unchangingness, I'd usually give it a 3. MOR. But I'm annoyed by it's determined need to be the same the whole way through. I'm dropping it to a 2 because Why would you want to listen to it?
A bit whimsical for me
Zebra: 4/10 Silver Soul: 6/10 Norway: 6/10 Walk In The Park: 5/10 Used To Be: 5/10 Better Times: 4/10 10 Mile Stereo: 3.8/10 Real love: 5.4/10 Take Care: 5/10
Chill but didn't love
Boring and annoying at the same time.
2.5 meh
We had this playing on our ride home from New Hampshire yesterday. It was better background music to be stuck listening to in the car than yesterday’s album, but is that what music should aspire to be? Background music? I also learned something new - there’s a category of music called dream pop, which this apparently is. Aptly named because it’ll put you to sleep listening to it. This was a snooze fest. Not sure why people choose to listen to this.
