My kids’ imaginary band, “Electric Cheeseball”, is better than this.

Ooh, a late 90s singer/songwriter I haven’t heard of! ***three tracks later*** Oh, that’s why I haven’t heard of him…
Jeff Beck’s tone is so distinctive. And I will never listen to Rod Stewart the same way again. Absolutely incredible album. Low point was the strangely mixed applause on “Blues Deluxe”, which was distracting.

Surprised how many songs I recognized, and despised, from this album. This is LB at the height of their global hatred.

Thanks for inviting me to the group! This was a great first album, it has some great jazz influence. “Frustrations” was the highlight of the album. Real emotion in Femi’s voice.
A 25min rendition of Bo Diddly’s “Who Do You Love”. What’s not to like? I also wear a rattlesnake as a necktie. Reminded me of the Doors “Live at the Hollywood Bowl and their (relatively short) 8:15 rendition of “Light My Fire”. By the time I got to Calvary, I was pretty spent on the jam session, however.
Made it 3 tracks in. Maybe you “had to be there?”
I’m gonna dedicate this album to all the lovers tonight, and I think that might be the whole world…
I don’t think I ever listened to this whole album before, but I remember hearing almost every song on commercials or in movies. Crazy how this album wove its’ way through popular culture.
The first half of the album is solid, I always get lost in the 2nd half. Could have cut about 6 tracks and had a more coherent album (1 hour later) This album is too damn long.
This made me happy.
Huh. That was weird.
First four songs are amazing. Title track is the weak point of the album
I don’t hate it, and I thought I would hate it. Feeding me to the lions was a bit much. Jolly Roger was a bad attempt at a pirate shanty.
Birdland makes me want to dance like Charlie Brown.
Really was digging this album, and when it finished Amazon Music just sent me into The Clash. Great way to spend the morning.
Mama Mia!
Not my style, but I enjoyed parts. Hard pans in mixing make some tracks hard to listen to.
I can’t say I enjoyed listening to it, but I appreciated it as an early version of Heavy Metal. The recording quality is horrendous.
“Just when I think you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this, and totally redeem yourself!” – Harry Dunne
You’re damn right
One of my all time favorites
If this was created in 2020, I would say it was just someone with an iMac and too much time on their hands. But being a 1996 album composed from vinyl on a sampler - respect.
60 seconds in… who thought this was a good idea? The saxophone was a real surprise.
This caught me in the right mood. Had heard the opening track before.
Huh, I always thought Lou Reed was the name of a jazz musician. “Because you know what they say about honey bears, when you shave off all their baby hair, you have a hairy minded big bare bear”
Really not sure what to think of this album.
Got a few tracks in..
Much respect to Eddie, he’s a virtuoso. The rest of the band? Not so much.
Despite the fantastic musicianship and interesting song structures, Radiohead seemed to lose the ability to write lyrically in their later albums. So hard to connect with. Nude comes the closest to capturing that magic of OK Computer and The Bends thematically, but lacks substance.
Oh, this is who sings that song! Really enjoying the first two songs, “Everything” is a low point with cheesy melody and cringy rapping.
I’m sure it was appreciated in its time
Wow
A solid and forgettable album.
I liked it!
So, so grungy. I liked “Broken Hands”
I can hear the hard drugs pumping though my speakers.
Jeff Beck’s tone is so distinctive. And I will never listen to Rod Stewart the same way again. Absolutely incredible album. Low point was the strangely mixed applause on “Blues Deluxe”, which was distracting.
“Teach your children” might be the low point of the album, despite being so famous. “Almost Cut my Hair” has some funny lyrics and some wicked guitar. “Our House” is probably my favorite song, it just sounds like a Laurel Canyon jam session
“No sympathy” is a great track.
Hungry Freaks, Daddy - wow, this is good! Who are the Brain Police? - Huh, interesting, but I like it. Go Cry in Someone Else’s Shoulder - Hilarious Trouble Every Day - fantastic song, great groove and vocals Help, I’m on a Rock - greatest song name ever?
“Paralysed” and “Vapour Trail” were my favorite tracks. I imagine every member of the band has hair hanging in front of their face as they stare at guitar pedals.
Meh
Really enjoyed this. Prob won’t ever listen to it again!
“The world is sound” Huh, that was weird
Woof. Rod needs Beck back. The country comfort duet with Ronnie Lang is painfully soulless.
It makes me mad that this album is 28 years old.
Liked this a lot more 25 years ago. A few tracks still hold up
Picture Book is a great track.
Incredible Floyd album. One of my all time favorites.
I don’t get it
A white girl names Dusty sings Motown
Great album I never would have heard of!
Is this Ok? I don’t think this is OK.
So good, this album echoes through punk and rock for decades
Woo-hoo!
Meh
My kids’ imaginary band, “Electric Cheeseball”, is better than this.
Better listen the second time through
The beginning of the end for good Aerosmith, but it’s not the end yet..
A safe choice
Better than I remembered as a teen.
Surprised how many songs I recognized, and despised, from this album. This is LB at the height of their global hatred.
Great start to the weekend!

Imagine buying this album new because you heard “Come On Eileen”, and discovering the rest of the album sounds like this? I want my $12.99 back from Sam Goody…
Not bad for a Rod Stewart Album
Great live album. Wish I was there.
Groovy-ish
Led Zeppelin at the peak of their powers. A masterpiece.
Just can’t do it
All time great jazz album
Dude really likes congos
Not sure why a cover album of a bunch of standards is an album I have to listen to before I die
This one feels like a gimme
So fun listening to a band that influenced everyone from New York Dolls and The Smiths through Poison and even The Darkness. Ballrooms of Mars is straight David Bowie.
I liked this better as the album went on. The title track is probably the worst on the album
“The Stars are out tonight” is a banger. “Where are we now” it’s overwrought and bland at the same time, surprised that was the first single. “If you can see me” is delightfully awesome.
This has aged well
Dramatic
It’s the best of a terrible band
This is kinda cringey
Cool to listen to this whole album as one piece.
Not really my thing
Just kept getting worse
Need to listen to the first two Pixies albums and see if I appreciate this more
Brings back some good memories!
Gotta see “What we do is secret”
Surprised I hadn’t heard this album before, it’s right in my wheelhouse but 2-3 years before I developed my musical taste.
Love this album!
Not the best vocal performance, surprisingly. But the songwriting is excellent. The Partisan could have been the title track for “What We Do In The Shadows”
Great guitar tone, weird album!
Lead singer has a distinctive voice, the album grew on me as it went on. Then it stopped growing on me.
Excellent album
So nice I listened to it twice
Huh, what? Did I fall asleep?
Two listens today. Side A was very good. Side B was weird. I like Bowie, and I appreciate his influence , but I don’t love listening to his albums. I get it, I just don’t “get” it.
Took two listens to appreciate this one
Sounds like it would have been fun to be there.
Some memorable tracks
Meh
Hard to listen to without cringing, hasn’t really held up
This is offensive to me
The downside of the album is just how overplayed it is.
What an awesome surprise of an album. Guess they didn’t like LBJ much?
David Bowie’s formula. One big hit to start the album, a few mediocre songs to round out the first side, and some weird shit on side B. Don’t have it, but don’t love it
Not Metallica’s best performance, but it was a very novel concept at the time
So many better examples of this genre and from this year. No reason for this to be on this list.
I forgot this album while I was listening to it
I didn’t love all of it, and I didn’t hate all of it. Half the album was a 4, half the album was a 1 or 2. And it wasn’t have the songs, it was like half of each song.
I hadn’t appreciate how good the songwriting is on this album before this listen
This album just sounds like it was fun to make
Awesome album
Better than the Disc 2 B-Sides
Anyone ever feel like Elvis was just trolling the whole world? “It doesn’t matter how much I sing like an asshole, ya’ll are going to buy this shit anyway”. Blue Suede Shoes is undeniable, however.
The homophobic slurs haven’t aged well
Early ska sound
Sorry you lost your legs
For the era, I think this was super impressive
Amazing production
This album has absolutely no business being on this list, or any list, unless it’s a list of absolutely overwrought, poorly written and mind-bogglingly boring albums. I find this so much more offensive than hardcore pornography.
It would take most good bands a whole career to write this many solid songs. The Beatles did it on a Soundtrack.
It was what it was
Would be 4 stars, but Brown Sugar is just too disturbing.
Mixed bag
Got a bit better as it went along
This was something
Ooh, a late 90s singer/songwriter I haven’t heard of! ***three tracks later*** Oh, that’s why I haven’t heard of him…
I get it, but I just don’t get it
Post-peak Radiohead
No idea why this album is on here
I don’t get it
Boring!
Unremarkable but enjoyable listen!
Besides I shot the sheriff, the rest of this is very mediocre.
Wow this was bad
An earlier Hozier
A more complex album than I anticipated
Songs are way too repetitive.
Hard to rind a copy
Nice morning music
good vibes. Upgraded 3 to 4 while listening
