Reviews (page 2 of 13)
Most S & G stuff remains indistinguishable except the one inferior Dylan ripoff. Liked what they did with the blending of Seven O’Clock News/Silent Night but not much else here for me
Wasnt enjoying it too much but then Dylans voice came on and tanked the whole damn thing
Ihre Namen so groß wie ihre Sanftheit äh sanft. spurlose 1.2
Bob cato took the album pic. Taking photos was obviously not his bag, but apparently art direction was. For two cover designs Cato was awarded Grammys by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. They were for Barbra Streisand’s “People” (1964) and for Bob Dylan’s “Greatest Hits” (1967). Allegedly ground breaking at the time. Later, in 1997, the Recording Academy would award Cato its President’s Merit Award. (source Rochester Institute of Technology) - got to say as he seemed to get a lot of credits - must have worked really hard at making sure his name was on it as 'Vice President for Art and Design'. Music on this record is great.
Perfect album - short songs - great lyricism - harmonies - social commentary that could be written today, somehow still feels fresh and did I mention short album and short songs can we bring that back. Faves are: Flowers never bend with the Rainfall, Homeward Bound, A simple Desultry Phillippic (bit gimmicy but I enjoyed the gimmic today perhaps I'm just in a good mood).
Very the carpenters vibes, I love the soft country vibes. I could listen this on repeat on a good day. Plus points since I can understand what they are saying.
Teenage folk classic. More than a few memories of youth group parties attached to these songs
These guys could sing anything and I’d likely love it.
Are you goin' to Scarborough Fair? Patterns mi ricorda vibes da viaggio in India negli anni '80, alla Darjeeling Limited
YES! Soft boy hours. It's time to pine, baby. Everybody pull the collars of your trench coats up against the drifting rain, because you're damn right; we've got some melancholy to feel! WOOOOOO. Got nothing to pine for? Just imagine the girl who worked at the quirky bookstore you frequent in Brooklyn moved back to Rhode Island. Not a quirky bookstore guy? GET THE FUCK OUT, PAL. This is exclusively for real longers. Real vintage shop shoppers. Real gaze out the window of the train at nothing in particular type of fellas. The brand of bloke to say something like "There just isn't a safe space for poets in this polycule, I need to find myself again." Golden threads woven into a basket which is full of puppies that are also made of golden thread. Also, the puppies have three legs each and cardboard signs around their necks that say PLZ ADOPT ME and the P is backwards. 5 HIGHLIGHTS: It was December. Colder than usual, but no frigid chill could match the misery in the empty expanse left in my heart.
Great album, a true classic
Love me some S&G.
I wish I had it on vinyle
the perfect monday album this is classic. you can't beat it. patterns? great song. do i have any idea what it's about? ya know i'm not listening for meaning, i'm listening for music. words come later. my only comment to improve it is that walt whitman pairs better with emily dickinson than robert frost does.
Paul Simon’s writing is brilliant. I love every bit of this album. I was unhappy when Simon and Garfunkel broke up. But, I soon found out it just continued to get better.
A personal favorite album that I love. Flowers Never Bend and Poem are sick af

Mythique.
Обожаю альбом, под одну можно потанцевать вальс, а на других просто танцевать
As someone who’s largely gravitated toward folk rock and last few years, I’m a huge Simon and Garfunkel fan. I’ve listened to so much of their stuff over the years, but honestly I mostly listen to a playlist of theirs shuffled, so will be fun to listen to this again front to back. Just going in, a few favorites are here. Homeward Bound is probably my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song. Their harmonies are so perfect. It’s crazy. Some great songs on the first half. Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, 59th St Bridge Song are all classics. The Dangling Conversation is an absolute gem to start the second half. A somewhat underrated Simon and Garfunkel song that’s one of their best. It seems some songs get a little lost between the really good ones. Making it feel a little bit uneven. But their vocals always keep you engaged. Love the random Dylan inspired A Simple Desultory Philippic. It’s a fun song, even if it’s kinda out of nowhere. I can’t tell if it’s an homage or an insult as a song. It’s followed by Art’s probably best vocals on the album with For Emily Whenever I May Find Her. Then it closes with the Silent Night news coverage song. Love this. Feels like they hit another gear on some songs which elevates a lot of it. Even if it doesn’t fully all hit that 5 level. I’m torn between a 4 and 5. There are some of my favorite songs ever here yet all of it just doesn’t reach that level. Really good listen. Thinking about it now, and feels like a 5.
I haven't listened to this in well over 20 years, but I still knew the words to every song. Simon and Garfunkel were huge parts of growing up for me. 5/5
The album gave me a familiar feeling. Like spending a windy summer day in a field surrounded with people you care about. It felt lighthearted. Gave me the sensations of the brush of a subtle breeze on your skin. The instruments that can be heard at the background of every song are exquisite. Really great songwriting.
I LOVE IT!!! It scratches the itch so good and I love the sharp wit and the cohesion and that feeling of a deep love of music. It's so simple and so complex and HEAVENLY!!!
These two, man.
Álbum que no te crees que sea de esa época me gustó mucho
Beautiful album.
Some of my all time favorites!
Good stuff
Did not expect to enjoy it this much!
personal rating: 9/10
Beautiful and in ovaries, a great album.
Heel leuk! Ik kende maar 1 liedje.
esse cd me fez entrar numa toca de coelho que eu cheguei até na macedônia. e agora sei que as palavras desultory e philippic existem
I knew this band from the German version of Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme, and this album is just incredibleeee, 28 minutes are not enough!!
Great album
It's a beautiful album. There's nothing quite like Paul Simon's songwriting, and especially here. Beautiful instrumentals go hand in hand with the dark storytelling in the lyrics. The album feels like a walk through a lush garden on a dark and cloudy day. My favorite track is probably Flowers Never Bend With the rainfall, with The Dangling Conversation being a close second. I hadn't heard this album before but it might be Simon and Garfunkel's best work. It's a masterpiece.
one of my favorites
Have it on vinyl, really like it.
Nice
4.5
Grew up with PS. Best songwriter ever?
Theres a reason this is a legendary album. Beautiful but not sleepy. Better than the two of them apart.
Fucking MAGICAL. i think i loved everything here. holy fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk music is beautiful??????????
It's been a while since I listened to this one. Simon and Garfunkel made some excellent music together. Great album with lots of great tunes. Dig it.
What an absolutely beautiful album. It blends in meaningful and poetic lyrics with melancholy tunes in a seamless and artistic way. It definitely requires a certain introspective mood to listen to, and is best listened to alone (even better if surrounded by nature, maybe on a park bench or under a beautiful tree?). My own exposure with this album may have me biased though as it was not a first listen…. The lyrics to the song “the dangling conversation” in particular was on the cork board in my room in uni and listening to it brought back some good memories. All in all, listening to this album feels like submersing into yourself and having a good look around and appreciating the melancholy as well as the silver linings. Will listen again.
a classic with several favourites. First time I'd heard the full album.
You had me at harpsichord. They are a band I always forget is amazing. In my head they're just some random folk duet, but the music is secretly very diverse. It's subtle and honestly pretty complex in a sneaky sort of way.
Weird album art, but a killer album. Scarborough Fair, 59th St Bridge Song, Homeward Bound all on the same album?? Fantastic. Wild that the album itself touted "The Dangling Conversation" as one of their singles off of it. It feels to me one of the least interesting songs on the record. Really enjoyed "Patterns", "Cloudy", "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine", and the Bob Dylan kind of parody (if you can call it that?) that is "A Simple Desultory Phillipic" when it came to songs I didn't know before. Feels rare to have an album that is fun to listen to top to bottom.
A great classic album
Love the lyricism at play here, it's simply one of my favorite albums of all time. Elegantly simple.
Great length. Very pleasant. Second song I’ve listened to on this list that mentions midtown east in the title. Used to go to the Trader Joe’s under the bridge. High 4 / low 5
Music is so folklore, but in all the good ways, lyrics like poems, well structured with the music, and THOSE ARMONIES! And I was impressed by the level of REBELDY in it!
This might be the best folk album I've ever heard. Etheral, beautiful, smart, and catchy. I can't believe how well rounded the album is, and it's only half an hour so you're just left demanding more!
El mejor unplugged de MTV lejos
I surprisingly loved this - clever lyrics and great melodies. I can see why it's a classic!
Sounds like they dipped their toe into psychedelic music in parts of this album, especially with the second track, "Patterns". "Scarborough Fair / Canticle" has a mix of psychedelia with old English folk music, making for an interesting piece. The harmonies here are wonderful. "A Simple Desultory Philippic" pays homage to Bob Dylan musically and lyrically. The final track is a great dichotomy with the singing of Silent Night combined with the reading of the news of the day that emphasizes the chaotic upheaval of the times. On first listen, many of the songs sound out of place with one another because of the genre jumps from song to song, but additional listens allows them to start to meld together in a cohesive unit.
Tbh I wasn't looking forward to listening to this album, I thought it bore the saccharine and whispery brand of folk from the 70's that I'm not that wild about. Consider my mind changed. Yeah, that stuff is there, but the context, tone and lyrics are deep and resonant. Its density and authenticity break through the skepticism I feel about sentimentality that isn't grounded in context of equal weight or consideration.
Booaaaaa, já começa com uma que eu gosto muito. Bem medieval, tipo Greensleeves. Curti demais a Homeward Bound, ouvir essa sozinho comendo uma berga... The 59th, ando devagar... Que álbum pra tomar um café no meio de uma floresta e pensar na vida. Eu escrevi isso no meio do álbum já, mas tive que parar tudo que tava fazendo pra deixar a letra das músicas no Spotify e não fazer mais nada, só ouvir. A última música, pourra... genial. Que álbum. Já gostava deles, músicas fodas, me deixou impressionado. 5 estrelas. Foda demais.
Big S&G guy
I’m sorry but I love Simon & Garfunkel. Full stop. Will not apologize.
This is such a beautiful album. All of it: harmonies, arrangements, poetry. Even the damn cover art is pleasant. This could have crossed the line from sweet to saccharine, but there’s the right amount of melancholy and longing to keep it heartfelt and true. Scarborough Fair/Canticle Homeward Bound The 59th Street Bridge
Obra maestra y con gran carga social y muy rockera
Classic folk album from a great team.
Really good album, very sonically pleasing, with clever songwriting and beautiful vocal harmonies. The themes also age remarkably well. Pretty pristine.
😮💨
Very enjoyable, ethereal and beautiful. There's a fair amount of variation in the sound between songs. I liked the most ethereal ones best, like "For Emily...", as well the Bob Dylan parody. I enjoyed all the elements (vocals, instrumentals, lyrics, etc).
This album really grew on me as I continued to listen to it. By the end of my listen through, I just wanted to keep listening to the album over and over.
Really great. I’ve never been completely sure about Simon and Garfunkel but I’ve ended up really enjoying this one. Bit of psychedelia and a bit of folk what’s not to like. I can just see these being covered in the best way too. 4.5 stars.
yeah it's peak simon and garfunkel. top tier songwriting even then. not my favorite of their albums, but perhaps the most consistent
Album 1068 of 1089 Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme - Simon & Garfunkel (1966) Rating : 5 / 5 My favorite duo, by far. This is just a beautiful album from beginning to end. While it’s hard to compete with Side 1 of Bookends in my personal rankings, taken as a whole, this one may actually take the prize. It’s consistently strong, thoughtfully arranged, and packed with songs that feel both personal and timeless. What I’ve always appreciated about Simon & Garfunkel is how they handle social commentary. They don’t bludgeon you with it. They don’t preach. They guide you there gently. The message is present, but it’s wrapped in melody and harmony so tight and natural that you almost absorb it without realizing. And then there’s “Homeward Bound.” In my opinion, one of the best songs ever written. Simple, honest, and emotionally direct. It never tries too hard. It just lands exactly where it needs to. The harmonies, the songwriting, the arrangements - it all works. It’s refined without being sterile, meaningful without being heavy-handed. A perfect way to start the day.
Hard to rate an album I've known and loved almost my whole life.
5/5. Simon and Garfunkel were my pandemic band. This will be another instance of my exposing myself as young, but I was a sophomore in high school when I really began to tap into S&G. My dad had always been a fan, so I heard a variety of their hits on car rides throughout my childhood, but this era is when I actually fully dove into their albums. And this one ended up being my favorite with its lush and beautiful arrangements and weary/dark storytelling. My high school band teacher had a wall of vinyl records in her classroom and she let students borrow them every now and then. She happened to have a copy of this Simon and Garfunkel album so I borrowed it and brought it home since I loved this record. Then the pandemic happened before I could return it so it technically went from borrowing to stealing. All that’s to say, Simon and Garfunkel ended up being one of the groups that soundtracked the pandemic era for me whether it be this album, or bookends, or sounds of silence. But this one was my favorite of theirs back then and remains my favorite now. It’s kinda funny, Bridge over Troubled Water is probably their most famous and culturally significant album, but in my ranking of Simon and Garfunkels five main albums it would rank second to last (it’s still very good.)
A great, great album
Very soothing album
Excellent! Everything they did was extraordinary.
Einfach nur super mal wieder. Wirklich tolle Künstler die mal wieder voll abliefern!
Perfect
Start to finish, perfect. An excellent master class in songwriting, composition, production and harmony.
Amazing! My favorite!
Published: 10 ottobre 1966 Listening: 24 February 2026 Very “in the nature on a summer (back in 1969 when summers were still sustainable)” kind of tune. OBSESSED with “Homeward Bound” (Track 4) and also their version of “Cloudy” (Track 3). …why do i find myself listening to “Silent night” in the middle of February (?) oh there’s a speech at the end. The album mind you is from october.
I have listened to this album multiple times before this suggestion. I really like Simon & Garfunkel to listen to while working, cooking, puzzling, etc.
Great album and one that really hammers in that without Garfunkel, Paul Simon never would’ve seen the light of day.
I like it!
LOVEEEEEEE.
Excellent
Absolutely formative. This was in my mom’s album (vinyl) collection and I listened to it constantly during middle school. At that time I did not appreciate the hilarity of “A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission)”. I had t had my Bob Dylan era yet.
This is one of my favorite albums from the 60s, absolute track for track perfection. These songs are beautiful, whether it's Simon and Garfunkels harmonies, Paul Simon's underrated and flawless guitar picking, or the generational poetry written between the melodies. The Dangling Conversation is one of my favorite songs of all time as well among these perfect tracks; this record is simply art.
I loved this album. Instantly recognisable as Simon and Garfunkel, nobody else sounds like them. The perfect mix of upbeat, melancholy and songs you recognise. I also loved that it was all packed into 28 minutes.
I was in the mood for this. Acoustic, classic, poetic, and beautiful that's what this album is. The vocals and instrumentation, especially the guitar, moved me and evoked memories I cherish. Scarborough Fair/Canticle is particularly close to my heart; it's one of my favourites to sing at campfires.
This album FLIES by. It is just done SO well. Simon & Garfunkel are so good. The guitar work is so amazing and the songwriting is top tier. This is so well done. This is probably a 4.5 rounded up to a 5 as it did begin to feel repetitive. Liked Songs: "Scarborough Fair / Canticle" , "Patterns" , "Cloudy" , "Homeward Bound" , "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine" , "The 59th Street Bridge Song" , "Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall" , "A Simple Desultory Philippic" , "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her" , "7 O'clock News / Silent Night"
Simon & Garfunkel songs work well together and solo.
Honestly, this may be my favorite whole album experience by these guys. It's interesting as I consider them a classic duo and have some of the best American folk songs/rock songs of all time. However, their albums always have a had at least a song or two I did not enjoy. However, this one feels very sonically cohesive. A little less goofy as some of their tracks get. Even their brighter experimental songs don't have any kitsch or corny aspects as much as some of their others do (I'm looking at you keep the customer satisfied and save the life of my child). It has a very "blonde on blonde" vibe with those tracks as opposed to the beautiful acoustic duets that we're so used to. also did they just make fun of bob dylan on one of these tracks? lol
These guys made some beautiful music, and wow does this album evoke a specific point in time!
so good. always
2026.02.02.
Love this album
An amazing album with profoundly beautiful songwriting and great tunes. Gentle melodies and pitch-perfect harmonies accompany its poetic core. The record stays consistent throughout, and each song adds an additional layer to the themes of this deeply introspective work. If I had to pick three favorites, they would be “Scarborough Fair / Canticle,” “The Dangling Conversation,” and “Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall.”
I’d forgotten about how good these songs are! Very 60s.
bello album, para disfrutar el momento
loved it
Leggo Simone e GarloFunkel, 5
boze ALI ZAISTA opening notes prelepe i ceo album tako klizii savrsen za kuvanje onako i uzivanje uzivala sam i dodala u svoju biblioteku
This is an all-timer album, I had never sat down and listened to the entire thing in one go before which is a damn shame because I LOVE it.
Giving it less than 5* would feel like shooting a puppy. So I'm giving it 5*.
It is absolutely haunting and beautiful. The album and its songwriting made me feel like I was in a dream.
love
I’m listening to this album in January of 2026. It feels bleak right now, with insurgent fascism and state violence (never forget Renee Good) in the United States, the relatively peaceful post war world order looking shaky, not to mention the usual long-simmering conflicts in the world, a climate that is rapidly degrading, and add whatever other horrors you want to that list. This album is a momentary respite from that. The guitar work and vocal harmonies are gorgeous. It’s idealistic, smart and literate. The kicker for me though is the album closer, “7 O’ Clock News/Silent Night” where Simon and Garfunkel are singing the carol over audio clips from the news at the time, which feels not all that different from the stories of war, catastrophe, murder that are in the news today. It anchors the album, gives it a weight that it needs, and makes the more idyllic aspects of it feel like they’re making a deliberate choice towards gentleness, towards poetry and literature and music, in the face of a brutal world.
I loved this one
Great musicians, great herbs, great use of 28 minutes
A pure pleasure to listen to. I was amazed how short this album was but how good it was.
This would honestly deserve five stars for "The man ain't got no culture [HARMONICA JANGLE]" in the Dylan parody alone... classic for a reason
💜
Great album. Beautiful and creative.
My mum used to sing this to me as a kid I love it
Classics !!
Excellent, shame it’s so short
This album was just what I needed today. The instruments and voices work really well together and the lyrics feel like poetry. Favourite song(s): Scarborough Fair / Canticle, Cloudy and 7 O'clock News / Silent Night
What a great album!! made even better when listened to on a cold, gray January day.
That’s a pretty great set of tunes. And a nostalgia bomb.
Lots of good stuff on this album. Homeward Bound is a favorite.
Such a great album. Consistently great for the entire runtime. Was very happy to listen to this one again.
I love Simon & Garfunkel, and this album is a fantastic collection of folk songs and folk rock. It’s like a warm, cozy blanket. The melodies wrap themselves around you. “Scarborough Fair” in particular feels immersive with all its layers of guitar and vocals. Lots of other great songs here too including the classics “Homeward Bound” and “Feeling Groovy.” I’ve always been a fan too of “7 O'Clock News/Silent Night,” which is both a lovely rendition of “Silent Night” and a time capsule of the news in 1966.
There's such a delicateness to Simon and Garfunkel that I love and that I find to be missing from a lot of modern music and that I appreciate now when listening to them. In another world I think Paul Simon is seen as someone whose songwriting ceiling is to the level of the Beatles. He doesn't always hit that ceiling, but he's written songs that I think get up to that level of perfection. Lots of good ones here but I think "The 59th Street Bridge Song" is my favorite. It reminds me of being a kid and my mom playing it on repeat and just being happy. Just a really solid and beautiful album.
frolicking through a field. just try not to get hunted down…
They certainly didn't mess about with telling us the title of the album. I really enjoyed this, Simon and Garfunkel are excellent songwriters and have very good harmonies. Through different songs in the album I was reminded of a variety of different 60s musicians, The Beatles sometimes came through in their harmonies and there were traces of Dylan in many songs, especially 'A Simple Desultory Philippic' which surely must have been made with this in mind. I also liked the references to other songs and artists, Dylan's 'Girl from the North Country' was referenced almost straight away and in later songs so too were Mick Jagger, Dylan's 'Rainy Day Woman' and Joan Baez's 'Silver Dagger'. I also felt that the tune at the start of 'The Dangling Conversation' was a near on to one match with that at the start of 'Blowing in the wind', at least the version from 'A complete unknown'. I enjoyed the songs across the board, but in particular 'Scarborough Fair', 'The Dangling Conversation' and '7 o'clock news' stood out as favourites. 87/100 Score edited 28/01/26
I really like Scarborough Fair. Lovely. The interplay between the voices and instruments is really quite nice. Intro of patterns is great! Really well produced album, big fan of how the instruments are panned. Some very powerful lyricism from what I'm listening to. I imagine this will continue throughout the album. Big fan of their rendition of Silent Night. Felt like a glimpse into history. A different time. Same with the Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine being a caricature of consumerism apparently - perhaps unfortunate to see the message apply more than ever so many years down the line. A really really good listen. Short and sweet, I think everything in there belonged. A good pace. I didn't come into this expecting a 5, as even though I knew Simon & Garfunkel as one of the greats they haven't previously appealed to me much. However I think it feels wrong to give this any less.
This album is fantastic! Most tracks are extraordinarily written, with vivid imagery. Didn’t love all of it, but it greatly impresses me how much musical creativity is fit into such a brief album. This album is concise, heartfelt, and clearly comes from a place of deep desire to create great art.
Beautiful music from the 60's.
What a beautiful album. Its so comforting. It feels like a warm blanket.
Ohhh been on the Simon and Garfunkel train since I was a baby with Songs From A Parent to A Child. I am more familiar with Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Water but this album seems like my vibe. The music gives you the perfect background to the lyrics. The lyrics are my favorite part, some are so devastating, “ And we note our place with book markers, that measure what we’ve lost.” It’s so easy to absorb but I want to listen again to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Only qualm I have is I wish this album was longer! All of their albums are short, perhaps from lack of chorus’ or song structure, but they waste no time. I am partial to the lullaby tracks like Scarborough Fair, Cloudy and The 59th Street Bridge Song. But the folkier ones like Homeward Bound and Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall are so fun. Folk music just gets me so giddy. A Simple Desultory Philippic is so Paul Simon doing a Bob Dylan impression, you can tell the idea for the song came from Paul. This was a perfect album to recommend on the first day of winter. Especially with devastating 7 O’clock News/Silent Night, so powerful, a perfect teary eyed ending to this perfectly cozy album. Simon and Garfunkel, I love you.
It's great that lyrics of one song can sum up all this album perfectly: Doo-ait-n-doo-doo, feeling groovy Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy
mm this is good
Peaceful and easy to listen to. Started off boring but slowly grew on me more and more. 5
An easy 5 for the most beautiful song in Dorian mode (Scarborough Fair)? Classic. The rest is also ok, a short and very pleasant album.
Has some timeless classics and you can’t top the duo’s vocal ability. I listened to this one twice and loved every second.
Good
this was fab
I've not explored a lot of folk rock, probably should. This is one of my favorites, the harmonies and the lyricism draw you in.
It's not Bridge Over Troubled Water, but no less deserving of a 5 in my view. I'd never listened to this album before (please, I'm far too young for this "old people" music) but the songwriting continues to impress me. Occasionally I wonder what it would've been like if these guys had access to modern equipment, recording techniques and sounds... but honestly I think part of the charm and the vibe of this is that it's largely minimalist and folky, and that lets the writing and the harmonies shine through. Also the phrase "largely minimalist" is one of the weirdest things I've ever written, but I love it.
lots of my faves on here
So good, I loved it.
Nice and love it during the wintertime. Dylan is cool
Heard S&G since I can remember, when my parents would play. Found them for myself later and regularly listen to this day. Great combination of voices and Simon is a great songwriter. This album contains probably one of my least favourite of his songs with S&G, being the Dylan parody A Simple desultory … is it enough to make it not 5 Star, no not even close
Please tell me I have to say I'm not surprised but I am delighted to say how much I like this record. In fact, I'm pretty sure their whole catalog has gotta be at least this good. At least it seems to be rated that way. In other sources, I've been a graceland fan for a little bit, but never really cave. The Simon and Garfunkel side a shot. I think the album cuffers are just too cheesy for me. But that being said, this record is near perfect. I don't like the last track with the silent night and the news. But other than that, it was perfect. I'm not gonna dock it a star for that final 2 minutes.
Simon and Garfunkel = Music Music is Great Therefore Simon and Garfunkel are Great
I love Simon and Garfunkle. I grew up on this album, before I even had an opinion about music.
This site is trying to convince me that I actually like folk rock. Yesterday Nick Drake, now here's this album... Oh well...
It’s a beautiful album. Accomplishes a lot in only 28 minutes, some other artists could learn from that ability to keep it brief.
Jes, lisää Simonia ja Garfunkkelia! Sehän passaa itselleni. Tätäkin on tullut todella paljon kuunneltua vuosien saatossa, mutta miksei tänäänkin. Keskenään kivan erilaisia biisejä. A-puolellakin oikeastaan melkein virsimäinen Scarborough Fair/Canticle, kivaa Americanaa Homeward Boundin muodossa, ja kunnon rokahtavaa menoa The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machinessa.
Great songs
take me to church S & G
wonderful as expected
Classic
a true love of mine
idk what recommendation will ever top this album. this was stunning.
cool
I wish it were a longer album!
This album is SO GOOD!!! With me NOT being a huge fan of 60’s folk rock, this album moves me on so many levels. None of the songs are overly long; but despite their briskness they fully evoke strong emotions and a sense of familiarity. Many of these songs I haven’t heard before BUT I feel like I have heard them before….if that makes sense. I couldn’t stop listening to this album over and over again. And it only got better after each listen.
A blend of beach boys, Beatles, the cure, and
Love lots of the songs on this album
Short and sweet. Little bit folky and samey but a fantastic album.
Simon & Garfunkel at their best. Most of their greats are found here.
9/10
Great singer songwriter lyrics and music. Classic.
This is an album of my childhood. Always playing.
Such a lovely album. I can see inspirations for Elliott Smith, and I can hear Bob Dylan's influence (honestly though, a simple desultory philippic is so good)
Not to be obnoxious, but this was really good on vinyl. I've listened like 4 times since this came up on 1001; didn't realize I hadn't actually reviewed it. It's perfect. I can't remember what the review I'm sure I wrote and didn't publish would have said, but I am moved by practically every track on this album. It's very earnest, which with less gifted musicians would have hurt the performance, but not this time.
Definitionen av Singer-songwriting. Folk och pop samtidigt. Och vilka röster, vilken stämsång! Femma, solklart!

Had to go listen more Simon & Garfunkel to decide if I wanted to rate this a 4 or a 5, so I guess I spoiled their next albums on this list. I really liked this but they've made even better music in my opinion. Edit: after a couple more listens I changed it to a 5.
What to say about Simon and Garfunkel? And this album specifically? I have been a huge fan of theirs since I was a small child. This is music that was playing in my house and in my friend's houses. My music teacher in elementary school taught us to sing Scarborough Fair and The 59th Street Bridge Song, among many others. Whey they toured together in the early 80's I got to see them live. With all of that, I actually haven't listened to this album in many many years. I was a bit nervous jumping in, as I worried that maybe I wouldn't love it as much as I used to. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Their vocals touched me as they always had, and the musical accompaniment is perfect for each song. I had mid 60's Dylan yesterday and this record today, reminding me that I don't dislike folk/folk rock when it's done so very well.
Really great work. Snapshot in time.
masterpiece.
a new favourite i think! gentle, sharp and quietly radical. just encapsulates everything i love about folk. 5/5
A perennial favorite.
Excellent folk album. Love the rendition of Scarborough Fair (besides the American mispronunciation of ‘Scarborough’) and the Silent Night closing track with the gradually rising news was quite powerful. Some really excellent tracks throughout the album too - Cloudy, Homeward Bound, Feelin’ Groovy. Love that the album didn’t overstay its welcome - short and sweet. I’m a fan of Simon & Garfunkel thanks to this generator. Will revisit.
Super chill & nostalgic One song I used to sing in elementary school
intersting worth another listen
Day639 - they sound so good together i hope they never break up
Tremendously beautiful and gentle in every way. Normally I take every opportunity to make fun of Paul Simon, but it must be said that he has always been an important blueprint to emotionally driven teeny boppers... from the stomp clap hey-ers to midwest emo to whatever Billie Eilish is doing (I assume). I would love to see a highly fictionalized Simon + Garfunkel biopic directed by Kelly Reichardt in which during the production of this album there is a montage of Art Garfunkel looking longingly at Simon.
pleasant
Maybe too chill for Monday morning, but we’ll put it on. Oh, this is delightful.
I am really enjoying this album. The opener is just a joyful and classic folk tune. These songs remind me of learning to play classical guitar. The string arrangements and orchestral elements are super 60's in the best way. I may have to do a deeper dive into Simon & Garfunkel, I have heard the hits but not the real folk-y acoustic songwriting they seem to excel at. Also - Carol Kaye plays bass on some songs! Hal Blaine on the drums. The Wrecking Crew is all over this album as was the fashion at the time. Very neat. "A Simple Desultory Philippic" blasts straight into Dylan-esque fuzzy rock. I think this is maybe a diss track? It's very on the nose and also sort of comes across as a proto-"We Didn't Start the Fire". In any case, it really jumps out of the album with the harmonica and distorted guitar. I think this is going to be an easy 5, I really enjoyed it. Just beautiful melodies and songwriting. I feel that in a lot of ways this type of music isn't ever going to be exciting enough to be mainstream again and I can't imagine a new artist "making it" playing songs like this. This makes me a little sad as I feel there is a real magic to these "simple" and beautiful songs - they are short, to the point and contain multitudes in their lyrics like the best poetry.
Wonderful. Some classics and some lesser-known but still special songs. The songwriting, the harmonies, it’s just that good.
So 4 or 5? Brilliant stuff classic songs. Holds together. Of its time and a massive marker in the road. Never tire of this. 5 I spose.
One of the best albums I've listened to so far. Straight to the favourites folder.
Overall: 9/10 I've always enjoyed Simon and Garfunkel's music but never thought I'd ever love one of their albums until now. This is a treat, honestly. The songs range from slow, beautiful ballads to straight up rockers in a way that I hadn't known them to pull off. Their harmonies are perfect and both members get their moments to shine. I might have found my next vinyl purchase with this one. Fav Song: Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall
Phenomenal. Every song is fantastic. Patterns, homeward bound, and flowers never bend were new to me and they were sooo oooo good
Een heel warm, zach album met naar mijn mening 2 fantastische stemmen e mooie instrumentale begeleiding. Voor mij was dat 5 reten, ik kan er niet meer aan vuil maken. Absoluut een album om te luisteren.
Incredible chill folk
Theres a goofy song here and there but overall great
I didn't really get into S&G until I watched "The Graduate" in my film lit class in high school. Great art reaches across generations, and that film, and its soundtrack, spoke to me. Or maybe it was just Katharine Ross, the greatest love interest in cinema.
this album opened my eyes on the profound impact of phenomenal songwriting. paul simon and art garfunkel created magic every time they touched the microphone.
This album is like pressing a dried flower between the pages of your existential crisis journal while staring wistfully out the window at autumn. Every track smells faintly of vintage bookstores and unresolved tension at Thanksgiving. Simon & Garfunkel were in full poetic monk mode here—armed with harpsichords, harmonies, and enough melancholy to drown a small town. It’s delicate, yes, but underneath all that beauty is a quiet rage at modernity… delivered via madrigal. Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: Like getting slapped with a silk glove embroidered with anti-war lyrics. Favorite Track: “Scarborough Fair/Canticle” – a haunting Renaissance fair fever dream with political subtext whispering from inside a lace doily.
Yep, it's pretty good - manages to be folk but with an extra level of texture that surrounds and suffuses everything, but never overwhelming. Melody and arrangement worht returning to, and doesn't outstay its welcome. Hello lampost!
One of the great mid 1960's albums. Really good.
Acoustic guitars, harmonies and weed. Potent combo. Timeless music.
Love this album. Full of great songs
Haunting vocals give this an ethereal feel hauntingly beautiful album. Have always been a fan of Scarborough fair and Homeward Bound.
Opens with their brilliant version of the traditional English folk song "Scarborough Fair", and the English influence continues with the pensive "Homeward Bound" (allegedly written while waiting for a train at Widnes station). Other highlights on the album include happy "The 59th Street Bridge Song" (aka "Feelin' Groovy"), and the beautiful "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her". The album closes with the moving "7 O'Clock News/Silent Night". Part of your soundtrack if you grew up in the 60's and 70s.
One of Simon and Garfunkels' best! I feel like David Byrne would characterize the production on this record as "tight", while each of the tracks are quite short, they're all excellently arranged and the harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel here are truly wonderful, just an overall pleasant and great listen!
great 10/10
Album #30 of my 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die List Simon and Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme I’ve dabbled in Simon & Garfunkel before, though not this album. It’s loaded with songs that filled me with melancholy, as in, the songs kind of depressed me. It’s not just this album, but a lot of folk music kind of depresses me. No idea why. There are some upbeat moments like A Simple Desultory Phillipic, in which Paul Simon does pretty good impression of Bob Dylan. But otherwise, it's a lot of acoustic guitar & heartbreak. The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine is a hoot. The album is a masterpiece & I find myself listening to it over & over. Many of the songs or their arrangements make them feel like they were sung in the woods by knights who are drinking grog in a tavern in the forest on their way to slay a dragon. The fancy way of saying that is baroque. The album is really short, which is commendable. All the songs are great, & you are likely to have heard Homeward Bound. If you want a taste of why S&G were such a huge influence on folk and music in general, this is a great album to listen to.
Brilliant album
Lovely songwriting, loved every minute of it.
This was wonderful. Every track was enjoyable, no skips. Simon & Garf really knew what they were doing and it shows. Five stars.
I love Simon and Garfunkel their music feels like a calm rainy autumn morning. This album is poetry masterpiece.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme? More like Poetic, Delicate, Timeless and Harmonies.
CLASSIC! Loved the album before, will continue to love it forever. I can't believe we got scarborough fair and homeward bound on the same album.
Beautiful, relaxing, melodious and stunning!
A little Garfunkel with my Simon.
Can’t playlist it because it’s a specific vibe
Great folk
Man, that album cover is terrible. Don’t judge the album by that though. Paul Simon pens some great songs here.
This was sooooo great, one point a song sounded just like Babe Rainbow
A classic!
Nobody could harmonize like Simon and Garfunkel. This album is a truly transcendent experience. The “Silent Night” ending hits pretty close to home these days. Unfortunately timeless.
Sublime. Great Harmonies and guitar work. Timeless.
Man, taking me back to my childhood and loooong drives.
This is a masterclass in harmonizing. I also loved hearing the Afro-Cuban influence on Patterns that Paul Simon would take into his solo career on things like Graceland.
Wie auf einem Mittelalterfest und sehr nostalgisch klingend, sehr schön
classic
9/10 Turns out I love S&G, 2 five star albums so far. This one was pure folk rock, a lovely collection of little gems. I had heard way more of these than I thought I had. You’ve got to respect an album that gets its job done in 30 minutes and is more or less perfect. Best: Homeward Bound
Reet lovely that
Для фона и приятного прослушивания - потрясающий альбом и довольно необычный в моей коллекции. 8 из 10.
Really liked this one! Calm mellow vibes. Best song: Patterns Notable(s): The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her, 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night (this one is just a really neat concept)
Honestly, I believe that Simon and Garfunkel's catalogue is seamless in its perfection. While listening to this one, I realised that I wasn't as familiar with this record as I thought I was. There a true moments of songwriting brilliance as well as some humour and Dylan pastiche thrown in to lighten up the mood. Right from the start, the harmonies will overwhelm you with their beauty.
omg i always thought simon and garfunkel were disney characters, like crunk or lumiere. so that was gaggy i didnt know they were real 😭😭😭. i feel like a hobbit trekking through mountains singing listening to the first 2 songs, very lord of the rings, very folky!! a little psychedelic but not in a tame impala way, it’s more calm. like a light dosage instead of a bag of lsd. then the vibe kinda shifts from Cloudy and Homeward Bound, it gets kinda beach boys like sitting in that volkswagen van on a coastal road with a guitar and a dream. the vibe shifts again with songs like The Dangling Conversation, it’s like that one scene in a 90’s romance film where they are giggling and strolling in a park!! “Communist cause i’m left handed” in A Simple Desultory Philippic is crazyyy they hate to see left handed people win; but i like this song its very camp, like they didn’t really take this one to seriously. the random silent night cover had me gagged LMFAO i was like whattttt, but the layering of the news headlines kinda ateee, they kinda did their big one. very atmospheric it literally felt like christmas night just chilling, and i love the juxtaposition of the very violent harsh headlines with such a calm song. standout to me is Patterns, it gets kinda africany with the bongo sound (i honestly don’t know what instrument they used for that) and it’s a interesting blend.
Incredible, start to finish. Ethereal sound. Knew a lot of them but For Emily, Wherever I May Find her was a gorgeous find.
Paul Simon is a genius! Love the harmony with their voices, great song writing
• 5/5 • beautiful, eclectic, and packed with great tracks • timeless
Great album from my youth.
Probably one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkle albums
10/10, banger after banger. No notes.
One of the best albums of the 60s
Any Simon & Garfunkel album is automatically 5 stars.
Bao demais
If there ever existed a timeless product of its time, it’s this. Anchored in it’s contemporary world of 1966 it still transcends time thanks to its earnestness and beauty.
Perfect for evening light reading.
Amazing
Lowkey had a spiritual awakening whilst listening to this
just beautiful, relaxing and calming piece of art.
Peak hippy shit.
Amazing, specially Cloudy
I'm sorry but who hasn't heard Scarborough Fair? Homeward Bound? The 59th Street Bridge Song has been in countless commercials and movies. Why? Because this album represents some of the best folk rock ever. I don't have to talk about the two-part harmonies, or lush arrangements - you already know that. It would be another 20 years before folk rock was this good (except for Simon and Garfunkel's own album, Bridge Over Troubled Waters).
This album has become even more enjoyable as the years go by.
Beautiful Harmonies, this is the perfect slow album, Paul Simon is a great singer and songwriting but as well as that an amazing acoustic guitar player. Excellent record
I only knew a couple of these songs before so this album was a treat. Paul Simon is just an incredible vocalist and he sounds amazing on this album. You don't need to write 10 minute prog songs to be a great guitarist, and tender vocals delivered like this can be miles better than any belting metal roar etc Homeward Bound is the best track but I really like Dangling Conversation among the ones I didn't know. The strings are really lovely and reminds me of Nick Drake
How can something be so beautiful and so sad? History and poetry all in one. Love it.
Beautiful.
I expected to enjoy this album and give it a 4, but on the listen through I was transported! (plus I really wanted to add Homeward bound to the 1001 Best of the best playlist) The only track I didn't really love is the last one, but so many of the others make up for it! Fave tracks include; Homeward bound, For Emily and A Poem on the underground wall.
five. no questions.
Pre-listening thoughts: happy 4/20 but guys, you forgot an herb… hehehe… Post/during listening thoughts: after our last album was 2.5 hrs of drum and bass, I will welcome a 27 minute folk album with open arms. Their harmonies bring me to tears. Just really stunning and gentle stuff. This album is the equivalent of finding a patch of sun by the window. Better than Bookends. 10/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: yes but i was also familiar with over half of this album before sitting down to listen to it so it kinda feels like cheating Fav tracks: this is a no skip album but really special shoutout to Homeward Bound and 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night, two of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard Least fav tracks: n/a
This album really surprised me. I am not the biggest fan of folk music and I was expecting a difficult and boring listen. I was wrong. Scarborough Fair / Canticle is so beautiful and I loved Homeward Bound and The 59th Street Bridge Song as well. The songs are all short and sweet songs, and the harmonies and occasional strings are incredible.
This album takes me to a calmer time when things felt simpler. Almost their greatest hits album with so many regular favourites. I listened to this album a couple times over the last few days and will be adding more S & G to my playlist
Was going to give this a 4, to be conservative in light of giving Bridge Over Troubled Water a 5 (Because surely they can't both be 5s), but then banger after banger had me switch up and go back to 5. It's a great album, not as iconic as BOTW, but pretty spectacular in its own right.
Felt like a theater performance with a little touch of medieval grace. Not nostalgic; more like it pulled in what was happening at the time and didn’t shy away from it. Great album. It packs a punch for a 28-minute runtime.
Folk is not my favourite genre but this album is delightful. Well written songs don't get old.
Part of my musical DNA, their mid-‘70s greatest hits is one of the first two albums (well, cassettes) I remember and we played that thing to death. Hard to see how this couldn’t be a 5.
I loved this album I can’t believe I had not heard all of this before. So listenable but also intricate ? Like I don't have much to say that hasn't been said tbh but yeah I love this
Pure acoustic bliss
Another collection of great songs
Top tier songwriting and sublime melodies throughout
this may not come as a surprise after my zz top review, but i adore simon & garfunkel. i grew up on them and they were one of the earliest artists i really loved. this album has some of their best songs, starting strong with Scarborough Fair, and keeping up that sleepy stoner energy throughout with Homeward Bound, The Dangling Conversation, Flowers Never Bend and For Emily. it's complex and beautiful folk rock that was composed and performed with great care. it takes itself just a little bit too seriously, and paul simon is more than a little bit pretentious, but there's some charm in that. this is quintessential S&G and is still solid today despite its specific mid 60s social message, maybe in part because of it. is this their best work? aside from other singles here and there, it might be. it's really good. i was planning to give this a 4 because it's a little too short and A Simple Desultory Phillipic and Pleasure Machine are really goofy and stand out for it, but to be honest i felt refreshed after listening to it twice in a row and decided it's my favorite album that's come up since i joined the group. 5/5 he even lets Art sing the lead a couple times
Brilliant album. I’m becoming a big fan of S&G through this list.
This album sucked
Id give it a 6 if i could. this is top shelf. they were beautiful souls.
These guys were maybe my first "obsession" (...as a 3 year old but it counts...). A rare act that got progressively better with each release - which when you only have 5 albums isn't that monumental but still impressive - and this one was a big leap from very quaint folk to bigger productions (e.g. "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine") and even a song like "Feelin’ Groovy" feels like would have sounded less full / more amateur a year or 2 before. Feels like I should give a note about Art G since he's one of the few vocalists I love so... here's the note. He's the best. Rapidly reaching their songwriting and performance peak which they'd get to on their final 2 albums but literally every song is worthy here (although truthfully "The Dangling Conversation" is a little too Paul Simon-y...enough already) and if you can't spend a half hour with this then well, best of luck to you. 9/10 5 stars.
Love them. They are a go to and I neeever get sick of them - I listened to this 3x through while working at the computer, sublime. The songwriting the harmony the lyrics - everything they are so comforting and lovely! For Emily (this earlier version will do just fine) .. is probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard
Gin and tonic. Laurel and Hardy. Yin and yang. Simon & Garfunkel. Some things are just better together.
I like this album becuase i really like howthe singers voice sounds. It sounds dream like or like a fantazy song. I like the the instruments in the background music and how it flows well with his voice. It sounds like a fantaxzy or like a fairy song. I would reccomend this song to people.
Rustig, mooie tonen
This was one of my dad‘s favorite albums, so I heard it frequently as a kid. However, listening to it now with headphones on definitely brings a different vibe than it did when I was younger. First off, I never realized that Scarborough Fair weaved the old rhyme with a very in-depth anti-war theme. I had to listen to it twice is surprise that it took this long to notice. I finally get it why that song was so impactful and not just beautiful. Homeward Bound is still a great song that brings up fond memories for me. 59th St. Bridge Song is Simon & Garfunkel classic. And 7O’Clock News/Silent Night: wow! What a statement. But I think my favorite song this time was a Simple Desultory Philippic as it gave a really cool view of their America in 1966. I can only think that this was how so many Americans felt then. Lord knows I feel like this now. I don’t know if this is my favorite Simon & Garfunkel album, but it is definitely a winner.
This album is like a warm hug from a nostalgic past. The songwriting, the instrumentation, the vocals- all contribute to a feeling of safety without feeling overbearing or overly corny. This is the kind of album that says "Sure, the world is messed up and sometimes life is sad, but in the end it will be alright."
It has been about a hundred years since I listened to this album and it is a lot more varied than I remembered or was expecting. The sound is excellent, the songs as much chamber pop-music as folk rock, the duo's voices weave around each other, the instruments complimenting them perfectly. Homeward Bound is one of Simon's best songs but there are so many other great recordings hear and the rendition of Silent Night layered over a news reporter announcing Lenny Bruce's death and the growing war in Vietnam, is still powerful. I was anticipating a couple of hits plus filler; this is so much more.
Ok this was a very good album. I loved the mix of psychedelic and folk rocks in most of the songs. I REAALLY loved “A Simple Desultory Philippic” cause it referenced the Beatles, Stones, Phil Spector AND Bob Dylan. 79/100 + 1 BONUS ⭐️ for Beatles reference
Loved this album. I ended up listening to several more Simon & Garfunkel albums after this one to get a wider view of them. I've always known of this group and a few of the hits, but never listened to a full album. I'm a convert, this is excellent.
Here we are, at my final Simon and Garfunkel album to review. As luck would have it, I will wind up reviewing their contributions to this list in reverse chronological order. Also, I gave five stars to Bridge Over Troubled Water, and four stars to Bookends, so I'm hoping that this contribution isn't destined to be three stars. It's time to get folky! Thankfully, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme was not a three star album. I thought this album was fantastic, filled with beautiful songs from start to finish. When it comes to S&G's catalog, I wouldn't count "Scarborough Fair" as one of my favorite songs of theirs, but I gained a new appreciation for it today. The harpsichord playing is fantastic, and captures the folk mood of the sixties perfectly. I loved the percussion and bass on "Patterns," which really surprised me, since I can't think of any other S&G song where the percussion stands out to me. "Homeward Bound" is probably my favorite song on the album though. The lyrics perfectly capture a feeling of homesickness, and the vocals on the chorus are fantastic. The guitar melody is great too, and the light organ playing rounds out the sound really well. I could write more about the individual songs, but I'll spare you my rambling, but summarize by saying that musically, this album was a treat for the ears. When it comes to the songwriting, PSR&T was another reminder of just how talented Paul Simon is as a songwriter. Last night, as I was cleaning up the kitchen, I was thinking about how I wish I liked Bob Dylan more, but his lyrics are just too figurative for me, and at times, listening to his lyrics can feel like translating Beowulf, and it becomes a chore. However, Paul Simon's lyrics contain the perfect balance of straightforward storytelling and figurative language to me. And speaking of Dylan, I thought "A Simple Desultory Philippic" was brilliant and pretty funny. Overall, this is another brilliant album from Simon and Garfunkel. Not only is this my last S&G album, it's my last Paul Simon album as well. PSR&T was a fitting way to wrap up my contributions from this duo.
A delightful 28 minutes of my morning, they really are nice Jewish boys
Surpingsingly large number of tracks on the album.
wistful and nostalgic. what giants of folk/singer songwriter genre. not sure I'll ever tire of Garfunkel's voice.
Quite possibly the perfect folk album.
An absolute classic.
Amazing album by amazing artists
Loved the sound, intriguing and relaxing at the same time!
Easy listening at its finest. Some classic tunes, sung with incomparable harmonies. What a great collaboration. Im a big fan of Paul Simon. But I don't think he would have ever been what he has become without Art Garfunkel.
Some classic songs on here.
I loved it. Some songs were nostalgic for me and we're still great to hear (not sick of them) and the new to me tracks were also really good.
A great album by the iconic folk duo. Tons of classic timeless tracks. Are you going to Scarborough fair is probably my favorite song on the album.
a.classic
The breakthrough album from Simon and Garnfunkel so had a string great singles before this. "PSR&T" really sees them mature as songwriters, Paul Simon in particular. There's a great mix of songs, many of which build up over 2 or 3 minutes before cutting off, leaving you wanting more and then shifting into something different. It keeps the music fresh and interesting. The social commentary of "Silent Night" does outweigh the actual music but it does create a good juxtaposition from being calm and happy to depressing news coverage. My only slight complaint is that there's a lot of recycled elements from previous releases but they seem to have really refined their sound. It's an incredible piece of folk music history.
Iconic treasure ✨️ Every song is a little treat
9.95 ★★★★½
A little slight at 28 minutes but in effect a mini masterpiece up there with Beatles’ Revolver as highest quality, most ambitious studio work of 1966. Has a mix of everything from spike-tingling renaissance covers, all-timers like Homeward Bound and 59th Street Bridge Song, swinging sixties vibe of Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine, intense folk moods of Patterns, savage Dylan parodying on A Simple Desultory Philippic and poignant sound collage with the 7 O Clock News/Silent Night closer. For Emily Whenever I May Find Her is astonishingly beautiful but Flowers Never Bend With The Rainfalls is a hooktastic lyrical masterclass and nudges into the lead as my fav. Not really a bad song and simply incredible harmonies and arrangements throughout.
This was CLASS
