What a sack of shit

Just a load of repetitive noise from a piano-bashing nonce.

Very annoying.

High energy, lots of bravado, and tons of piano key banging. Also a pedophile. 1/5

Dude could bang out some rockers, sure. But live albums are pointless

He's a whiz on the piano, there's no doubt about it, but he sings with the nuance of a dump truck navigating speed bumps. No matter the song, he sings it the same, and usually with the same narcissistic flair. I'm adding a star for the album being only 22 minutes long, but removing two for almost certainly killing at least a couple of his 7 wives. If we start talking about his marriage to his 13 year old cousin, we're going to need negative stars and an extra layer of hell.

Incredible live album from one of the worst guys who ever lived! Just a truly terrible man! 0/5 person! Do not need to be reminded that he once lived and died, before I died!

This one was a ndf for me. I just can’t stand this type of music. Got like 2 tracks in.

He married his 13 year old second cousin

Wasn’t that into this but I get why it’s important for the history of music!

it’s ok but jerry is not ok

Lol imagine becoming a jerry Lee Lewis mega fan in 2024. Not happening.

I have a hard time listening to him based on his personal issues...I know that's not relevant to the music..but...

I am not into live albums

Jerry Lee Lewis was a racist, predatory, cousin-fucking pedo and for that he gets a 1

Eh, whatever. I guess this is important and foundational and all, but it's not interesting at all to me now.

When do you separate the art from the artist? For me I think it's when the art is not something you're willing to lose and the art itself is not an extention of the toxic behaviors. Here we have the racist pedophile singing songs stolen from black artists with the smug satisfaction of knowing he'll always make more than them. Jerry Lee Lewis reminds me of the kind of asshole that would go to an open mic just to mock young artists. I don't care how well he performs. Give me James Brown and Little Richard please.

This is 22 minutes of the 12 bar blues and other people’s songs. Jerry Lee Lewis was also a piece of shit. Fuck this guy and fuck this album

this shits ass and he likes 13 year old children

The music is ass but everything else about him is really funny

Apparently he was a freak pedophile soooooo

I tried, but there's no way I could stomach this entire album. Jerry Lee Lewis is just too fucking creepy. He kicks off the set with "Mean Woman Blues" where he sings, "She's got ruby lips, shapely hips" and you immediately call BULLSHIT! "Nice try, Jerry Boy, but we all know that shapely women are NOT your type, mate." But then, disgustingly, he follows this with a track called "High School Confidential". HIGH. SCHOOL. CONFIDENTIAL. Yikes. Ew. Gross. Yuck. 🤢🤮 I switched this weirdo off during that song. On this occasion, it was simply impossible to enjoy the art separate from the artist. Fuck Jerry Lee Lewis. 👎👎

Ok. Expected more though.

This one is not for me. Not my era, not my style of music or vocals, and especially not a live set. If someone wants to tell me what a heathen I am, fine, do it. But I'm not listening to this whole thing just to say I did it.

Not a fan of pedophiles

terash

Let's get this out of the way. Fuck Jerry Lee Lewis. I can't believe that guy even had a career after people found out that he MARRIED HIS 13 YEAR OLD COUSIN. Anyway, this album isn't even that great to begin with. There really isn't much to this album. It's a live album, something that I believe I've only experienced once all the way back with that Johnny Cash album I did a while ago. That one was alright, not necessarily because it wasn't made by a pedophile, but because it had something special with its energy. Johnny's interactions with the crowd made it feel special, especially given the context. This album just kind of has cheering from the crowd and that's about it. The music itself is decent as far as sound. It's passable 50s/early 60s rock and roll, but it's not original at all. Jerry Lee Lewis only wrote two of the thirteen tracks off of the album. I know that that was kind of the norm at the time, but that still doesn't sit right with me, especially since he was also racist and most of these songs were originally written by black artists. Okay then, I could try to separate the art from the artist! The problem with that is how much he name drops himself. One of the two songs that he wrote was called "Lewis Boogie". So apparently, he's also a narcissist! On top of that, most of the songs are about love and stuff, so it's even harder to get that knowledge out of your head when you know that the song could've been written about a 13 year old. Overall, even if I could separate art from the artist, the content's of the album are not only negatively affected by the knowledge of what the singer did, but also aren't original or spectacular enough to warrant listening to this ever again! 1/5. Rest in piss Jerry, you piece of shit.

Dude had more wives than songs on this album

Pedophile

every song sounds the same, its mostly the piano carrying and repeating the song title 50 times

So this is what cultural appropriation sounds like…check I’m looking at you Jack Harlow 😉 Although he’s from Louisiana … he also married his 13 yo cousin. I guess someone had to do it (not the pedo incest stuff) but to be the poster boy for the style lifting from the disenfranchised black south… Elvis too. Now that you know he’s a pedo, his songs def have a sinister undertone, right? Ugh 😣 that guttural cat call is the definition of CRINGE Thank god this album is only 20 minutes long 1 star because he said something cool about New Orleans otherwise he would’ve gotten 0 Maybe I’m acting too woke? I dunno. This album was cringy af. I’m glad that ride is over. But I guess I’ll say something positive …. He broke the cultural barrier making it cool for white kids to openly listen to black music…. But does music truly have a color? But he’s still an incestuous pedo

Terrible.

Ugh, this mother fucker.

I can normally separate the art from the artist. It's something I rarely have an issue with. Jerry Lee Lewis is an issue. I don't care how bombastic the performances are, how wild the crowd is cheering, or how iconic the melodies are. Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13-year old first cousin's daughter. Twice! And big surprise, she was "subject to every type of physical and mental abuse imaginable". That's just one (major) bullet point in the list of reasons why JLL was a piece of sub-human scum. This album came out over 6 years after their marriage was public. The fact that he even had an audience to record this in front of is digesting.

Bullshit.

Billy's gonna rock.

If you don’t have a problem with pedophiles…

- Great Balls of Fire

I'm not feeling like rating this piece of shit's album.

Talented for sure. Also a monster.

I really hate this genre. He can play but I hate it anyway.

I'm just not the kind of person who can say "Well, he might have been a racist, incestuous pedophile who abused people, but he sure made great music!"

Livealbum, sjøl om da e kult at da e fra Hamburg

Though I'm only familiar with the same song everyone else is familiar with, I knew more of these songs than I thought...because they were sung better by others ('Long Tall Sally' and Little Richard, 'Money' and just about everyone else.) Even if I could get past what I knew of Lewis as a human, this still mostly sounded like someone who couldn't sing very well going to town on a piano.

I'm sure this was very influential when it came out, but it didn't age well. The standard blues chord progression gets tiring very fast.

No thanks. Stay away, creepy teenage cousin marrying pedophile.

It’s not my kind of music. I really didn’t enjoy it.

This sucks and i hate it Also why is anybody saying this guy invented punk right here first of all i fail to see anything here that could be influential to punk and if there was he would be far from the first Racist pedophile piece of shit

boring as shit and he's a nonce and about 5 of his 7 wives died on "accident"

Kan niet.

can barely understand a fucking word he says. basically he just copied what everyone else was doing at the time and rode the coattails of his contemporaries. he’s a watered down Little Richard wannabe. like if i want to listen to generic 50’s rock i’m gonna listen to the guy that fucking invented it, Little Richard. oh and he’s a pedo. go fuck yourself Jerry Lee Lewis you’re not special you just got lucky.

the energy on this album! jerry lee lewis brought so much excitement to the stage, and it's evident through this recording. i mean, multiple times the crowd chants his name! i can understand why this live album made the list. lewis' piano playing remains unique to this day, and it's a big part of the energy captured here. i think lewis' notable "great balls of fire" showcases that--but also his original "lewis' boogie," a charming song. also, today i learned what a huge racist and asshole lewis was! hope you rot. he could've gotten a 3 or 4 from me, but he's stuck at a 1 now. i have no remorse.

The only thing I will say about this artist or album is that other artists have recorded great covers of some of these songs.

Full of energy, sounds like a fun concert. But that doesn’t excuse JLL being a racist pedophile, I can’t see past that.

I found this too much but the reviews made me go and look him up. Dear god, what a delightful chap 😳

The first song was just noise, and then after he butchered money (that's what i want) i had to sack it off. Sounded like a good time in Hamburg though, cool place.

Wild man. Married a Child. Played big Rock'n'Roll piano. Alway hated it .

Not a fun of Live Music

I haven’t heard much by Jerry Lee Lewis as far as I’m aware. I did used to like Great Balls Of Fire as a child, but I think that may have been because I found the word “balls” funny. Songs I already knew: Great Balls Of Fire Favourites: Great Balls Of Fire I’m very surprised that this album is considered to be essential enough to be in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. There are 8 songs on the album, and I counted 6 of them to be 12-bar blues, basically meaning the music was the exact same, just maybe in a different key off at a different tempo. As much as I may have enjoyed Great Balls Of Fire in my youth, I would say this song makes it worth buying this album, and the rest of the songs certainly don’t either. Overall, it feels Mosul like listening to the same song over and over, so I simply don’t get the speak of this.

Jag tror att Jerry Lee Lewis är en riktigt dålig artist, han spelar inte alls bra på sin gitarr och hans sång är inte alls artig.

All his songs are stolen from better artists and he is a paedo

There's no Jerry Lee Lewis with Little Richard.

obnoxious. also every song is the same

Live album

not bad but live, so fuck off

- i dont like rock n roll really, cant see the significance

Ofmetið klisjudrasl. Über problematic gaur.

a zabavno, al ono

BORING

Nothing special. Did great on the piano 🎹 but not a fan of the rest of the music

How bout no?

this aint it chief

Definitely not my favourite, probably won't listen again. All the songs on this album sounded quite similar so it wasn't very interesting to listen to straight through.

Mejores: Whole lotta shaking going on Great balls of fire

Inoffensive. Minus 2 stars for whitewashing black peiople

Dirty. Not nice.

Straight Balls of Fire. Great 60s vibe.

Young Americans is so awesome, added to my happy playlist. "Win" is a little slow moving,
