Reviews (page 11 of 15)
Radiohead is one of those late 90's/ early 00's bands that I hear named fairly often, but don't actually know that much about. I do remember hearing something from a media production elective in high school about them challenging traditional record companies, but couldn't remember the specifics. Looking into it now, it sounds like they released this record directly from their website without a record label and it was the first major release to be "pay what you wish." Pretty cool. I definitely have to be in the right mood for ethereal/ atmospheric stuff, but this was still pretty enjoyable. "Weird Fish" reminds me of some of the music I'd listen to with my cousin driving across small town South Dakota to the video game bar in Aberdeen late at night.
Still don’t get the Radiohead hype. It sounds decent just in my ears like in the background but can barely tell when it goes from one song to the next I have no idea what they’re on about and nothing really stands out. I know ppl love them so maybe one day I’ll get it. But this album defo didn’t change my opinion
I have already heard this not too long ago and honestly I’m not a fan. I think Radiohead is not only overrated but also mid
Nude (!) Reckoner House of cards (!) Jigsaw Falling Into Place (!!) Videotape Радиохед не мое совсем, сонный альбом, в целом группа кажется какой то апатичной, но тем не менее миленькие по звучанию Надо считаться с легендами...
Surprisingly not the Radiohead I know. Which is I guess the point!
Chilled album. Some interesting arrangements.
Never really been a fan of Radiohead because I find them boring, slightly depressing, and a bit too experimental for my liking - this album isn't an exception, but I'd listen to it again.
Does not interest me
Was not familiar with this album and will listen to it again but for now it’s a three.
I really like parts of this, mostly Nude, Weird Fishes, and Jigsaw, but some parts feel a little slow in a not-very-groovy way. Still a vibe though
don't think a single song stuck out to me. such a lack of crescendo that all the songs melted together for me
Good
AHHHHHHHH LEAVE ME ALONE THOM YORKE
For me, not their best, but still brilliant
its radiohead so duh
Wasn't looking forward to a Radiohead album coming up. Enjoyed this more than I thought. Still not fantastic, nothing really stands out, but a decent enough album overall. Was this out on the list purely because it's Radiohead?
Was interesting to read about, but no headline Radiohead songs for me here? And I loved Radiohead back in my late teens and early 20s? Never listened to that album though, fun to try out!
6,5/10
Most of this album fell a little flat for me but the song House of Cards is super nice and chill and relaxing.
Brief moments in each track where something is going on, if only they put those together into one good one. Nice background noise otherwise
Not very reliable
Easy to listen to.
very drummy and guitary. Knew two songs prior to album listen: All I need (a previous liked song of mine) and I have also heard Weird fishes/ arpeggi but i had no clue what i was listening two. first two songs gaem the same upbeat punk rock kind of vibe and also i can tell this album was from the 2000s something abt it just seems like a flip phone. Nude very slow (kind of a standout so far) very angelic sounding. listening to werid fishes/arpeggi and i remedering liking the begining and the beat. okay just looked up and its a very cool song with a deep meaning. the idea of like falling for someone or a realtionship and just like throwing caution to the wind and following them only for it to fail and be left stranded cause u legit lost urself. and the repeating cycle of that. fav so far All i need, just jammed out i know this song very well and it comming after weird fishes makes sense given what werid fishes is abt. sorry also have to say the build, the ending with the repeating phrase, i lovveeeee a sogn that does that cause it's so human to tell urself something over and over again so that u will belive it. Faust Arp:short so much happening lyric wise just wanted to point out the outro tho cause i love metaphors and the author says "youve got melted to butter" which i guess is just like bro u are so soft wth. also faust is some mythalical creature like icarus not sure much abt him but he i think is ruined by love or smth. really enjoed violins Reckoner: yeah good idk like its a good deep album would i listen tosome of these songs aagin yes would i listen to them everyday no so in ava opion i would give it like 6.5/10. sound:8/10 lyrics:5/10 (like theyw ere deep but idk i couldnt connect that much with it) meaning: 9/10 i think this album have a very deep meanaing to it but i dont think i get it sober lol
Lindo muy chill, le falta un poco de Algo
It grew on me.
Better than the other ones. Still had plenty of meh stuff though.
Drums interesantes, sorpresa. No me esperaba algo asi. Mezcla perfecta entre rock y synthes experimentales, drums electrónicas. Likes: 15 step - Nude - Jigsaw falling into place - Videotape
Decidedly weird
More Radiohead. It was fine i think and may have even liked a couple of songs. My struggle was when would I actually listen to this. What mood what I need to be in. That’s my hang up with this band.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
I’ve always struggled to get into Radiohead and this listen has not changed that. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty good though gloomy album.
rend trop triste
really random, some songs were ass, some good terrible start made me want to stop listening idk i dont this will be the best radiohead album i knew jigsaw falling into pieces before and it was the best one 15 step - 2/5 bodysnatcher - 2/5 nude - 1,5/5 weird fishes / arpegi - 3/5 all i need - 3,5/5 faust arp - 3/5 reckoner - 2,5/5 house of cards - 2/5 jigsaw falling into pieces - 4/5 videotape - 1,5/5 summary: 25/10=2,5, but no 2,5 so lets go for 3
Didn't have a high expectations, but it was very chilled. Felt like it eluded to wanting to be chill trance or island vibe but didn't take it there. Not offended but probably won't return for another listen or investigate Radiohead more.
7,34
Not as good as Pablo Honey, The Bends or OK Computer
Not the style of music I lean towards but I can see how it would have influenced later bands.
3/5 It was good but not mind blowing
I like Radiohead but didn't love this album. First alnum on this list I didn't entirely like.
Feels more unstructured/progressive than some of Radiohead's older albums. Pretty sedate, melancholy, dreamy, floating, experimental - not bad for working music on a melancholy/rainy day but doesn't feel like an album I would think, "hey, I really want to put this on." I actually liked how it started out with 15 step and bodysnatchers feeling a bit more upbeat with some interesting drum beat, and some of the more ethereal songs I liked but feels a bit too much like this will make me depressed listening to it. I'll give it 3/5.
525/1001
This album really faded together as one song Nude caught my attention immediately though something about it was so stunning and incredible might have to give another couple tries to some of the other songs Radiohead has so much hype and some of there stuff is great some not so much but regardless a 3 feels right
Classy
Lovely
S’alright i s’pose. Not a lot of Rainbow colour
A bit boring, not up to RH's best
For a band I've never really liked this was a pleasant surprise. Might have to go back and reassess some of their other work now. Might find my new favourite band?
It’s fine. Just like background music, it’s easy listening at least
Ik had om een of andere hogere verwachtingen van Radiohead
It was too quiet for me.
Pretty slow, soft, and synthy. Can’t really tell what they’re saying but doesn’t sound like anything ground breaking. Not every song can have the emotional impact of Creep but cest la vie. Very 2007.
no es mi estilo pero tiene canciones que me gustan, destacando All I Need, Reckoner y Jigsaw Falling into Place
Kinda a nothing album for me. I've listened to some Radiohead before and this album was very dull in comparison.
Favourite is bodysnatchers. More upbeat vibe. Enjoyed reckoner as it bizarrely reminds me of to all of you (American girls).
I'm surprised I didn't hate this. His voice is still painful to listen to buy the music behind the singing was pretty good.
3.5
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m going to be listening to every Radiohead album. Still have very mixed feelings about them. But this may be my favorite Radiohead, for what that’s worth. I remember when this came out and listened to it in 10th grade. So there’s some small nostalgia.
Solid
When I reviewed Kid A, I explained how that album rocked my little mind when I was 13 and how it sounded totally out there because I had no knowledge of Warp Records or experimental music whatsoever. Well, In Rainbows came out when I was 20, which made all the difference in the world. By this age, I was consuming plenty of Can, Faust, Ash Ra, Pop Vuh, Neu, etc and In Rainbows sounded pretty pallid in comparison. On relisten, it's not a bad album -- I especially enjoy the first few tracks. But I think this is the album Radiohead settled into a generic "Radiohead sound" they've maintained ever since. I can respect how/why some find this record mind-blowing in the right context, but that context isn't mine so it sounds pretty mid to me.
Definitely have heard a few songs from this album and Radiohead as a whole. This is a cool album with interesting tracks. My favourite track might have to be house of cards. Overall I give it an 7.5. It’s dope but definitely something different
Im on track 3. I get why people love Radiohead, but I am not one of those people. I like this record plenty, but it just doesn't blow me away. Maybe im missing the point.
3.5
It’s easy to forget that Radiohead used to be a rock band. In Rainbows sounds like what many experienced bands sound like after many albums: solid songs and performances that just lack a bit of the angst and urgency of the early records.
■ 15 Step - makes me physically move my foot so the title suits the song i guess + makes me think of the steps i had make in this life ■ Weird Fish/Arpeggi - feels like i am on an experimental indie film. rice fields and all. reading the lyrics, it is about being free. and the songs feels exactly like breaking into freedom. ■ House of Cards - they are on(to) something here....... ■ Bodysnatchers - intro immediately put FIRE AND LIFE within my soul. end is terrifying. ■ Jigsaw Fallen Into Place - the most "normal" song so far. OR NOT. just saw the lyrics and i feel like they are using substance.. no, wait. i'm judgemental. their lyricism is just weird (pos) for me. ■ Videotape - piano in a radiohead song??? LOVE the lyrics !! death. ■ Nude - NURSE, THEY ARE PROJECTING ONTO ME !!!!! i will NOT hear you out. end is heavenly tho. ■ All I Need - melody feels suspicious, like it is awaiting me to lower my guards down and when that happens, it will devour me down to my bones.. WHAT ROMANCE? THIS IS THREATENING ME ■ Faust Arp - song that my family, specifically my mother, would dedicate to me i guess. or i'mm just overthinking the gibberish lyrics... ■ Reckoner - idk... no comment MY FAVE IS DEF WEIRD FISH <333
Hey look! Another radiohead album.
I enjoy other Radiohead albums much more than this one.
Fine album, nothing grabbed my attention.
I just can’t get into Radiohead. I like a lot of the guitar lines, but there’s just so much noise around it.
This slightly better than the Black Album
I didn’t listen to this when it came out but I probably should have. I thought they were more experimental and I would not like it. I found myself enjoying it.
I am a big Radiohead fan but this is not one of my favorites. A bit too industrial for my taste.
Pretty decent. 7.5/10 The instrumentals were really good like 8/10 but the lyrics and sameness dragged it down a little
3/4
15 step- 5/10 more upbeat than i was expecting, alot of drums. a solid 5/10 as there was too much happening. body snatchers- 6.5/10 loved the distortion, more my style.again there was alot happening overstimulation nude- 7/10 wasnt expecting it to be so good. definitely added to the playlist weird fishes/ arpeggi -6/10, bit sad for me and too long of a song. still good tho. all i need- 7.5/10 popular for a reason. beautiful song, captures feelings of helplessness and longing perfectly. faust arp- 5/10 overly sad. felt like it had no peak. filler song. reckoner- 4/10 another filler song. no climax. nothing overly special house of cards- 4/10 too sad for me jigsaw falling into place- 6/10 good song, had a build up, bit too long of a song. video tape- 4/10 i dont like the slapping noise in the background, feels repetitive. sad song. overall- 6/10. clearly a very talented band but just not my style, good music and singer. favourite is all i need
pretty coool but completely different from what i expected favs: „bodysnatchers” and „all i need”
Started really nicely and the vibe was amazing. It isn't something I think I will listen regularly but I enjoyed it
I liked it. I've recently been coming around to Radiohead. Definitely need to relisten to this.
I don't feel very strongly about this album. Situation: at my desk, doing some work. had it playing through my speaker. Stand out songs: when i was paying attention i would say 'jigsaw' & 'bodysnatchers' stood out. Likely 3/5, not bad, just not great.
Enjoyed it, but not their best
Default 3
Liked this one more than I thought I would. But still so boring.
I like Radiohead but im not a fan. So i can't just blindly give it a high score eventhough it might be more profound than i can understand in one listen. The whole album is well written, deep and has a unique melancholic touch. Despite that, i can't recall any songs just minutes after listening through it.
Kinda beautiful but very miserable. Yeah.
Songs: "15 Step" 6/10, "Bodysnatchers" 6.5/10, "Nude" 6/10, "Weird Fishes" 7/10, "All I need" 6/10, "Faust Arp" 6/10, "Reckoner" 7/10, "House of Cards" 6.5/10, "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" 7/10, "Videotape" 6.5/10. Thoughts: I like the sound of the main singer's voice. Good instrumentals. But I am not a fan of the electronics they use in the background. Less electronic than Ok Computer. Most songs are sad sounding, sad lyrics, sad beats. Much more instruments than the other albums I heard. Really a slow album. Rating: 6/10. I'm not blown away by it, but I would listen to it again.
Perhaps a slightly more upbeat version of Radiohead (for the most part). I remember hearing this album a bunch when it came out. I still feel about it how I feel about most Radiohead where I like it but it depresses the shit out of me. Like there's plenty of music that evokes feelings of sadness and strong emotions that I absolutely love, but there's something particular to Radiohead that seriously-seriously makes me depressed, like on some ideation shit, know what I mean? Like ready to bounce out the life-piece shit. I'm also just not a Thom Yorke person. I think Radiohead is great and important and all that but I'm never in the mood, namely 'cause, as stated, Radiohead depresses the shit out of me. Regardless of my personal feelings, this is a really good album. "All I Need" is particularly good and (unsurprisingly) makes me depressed as shit.
A little ethereal, a little rock n roll, a little melancholy.
I liked this better than other Radiohead albums but I still wouldn’t own it. Thom Yorke just sounds tired and whiny most of the time.
Makes me want to hear more of them!!
I struggle to immerse myself in Radiohead’s music. Every time I think “that was a nice melody” or “I like that synthesizer tone” they do something extremely on-brand and it just snaps me out of listening to the music and instead think “yep, I’m listening to radio head right now”
It's a radiohead album. Not sure it's their best
Standouts Nude Weird Fishes
Meh. Radiohead can write and perform a number of sounds — the sound of this album is just not my cup of tea. It has too much of a windgey male falsetto, woe-is-me vibe. I’ll give it a 3. It’s not over the top whiney and the band is obviously influential and masters of their element. Their confidence is inspiring and comforting
Not my favorite
Interesting. Never listened to the album. Enjoyed it.
It was alright
Trodde Radiohead skulle være litt mer spennende. Dette albumet var egentlig litt kjedelig.
Kinda angry that they're trying to be too deep and stuff but alright album. 3/5
On paper, this is something I should probably like. And it was overall good, with some great production quality that you’re probably missing out on if you listen on old car speakers instead of good headphones. That said, I just didn’t overly *love* the album unfortunately. Especially after hearing The Bends and knowing not all their songs sound like this. A lot of it sort of blended together in my mind. I listened to this three different times and still didn’t “get it” so I don’t think it’s gonna click unfortunately.
I DO like Radiohead, so I'm not going to write a nasty review about how they're a bunch of pretentious dicks. However, I think this is one of their weaker efforts and I never really understood the universal acclaim it received over many listens across multiple life stages. There are songs on here I really like, but it's a bit too downtempo whispery for my overall taste.
Annoin taas mahiksen tälle ilmeisesti arvostetulle orkalle.
Good band but this one has been the least shocking up to this point. Don't get me wrong, it was ok but it didn't sound fresh as the previous ones. Also I'm not the typical target so I kind of expected it.
I liked OK Computer better but this was enjoyable
Love Radiohead. The early stuff though
It was ok, I was expecting to like more than I did.
2nd Radiohead beeps and boops. Can’t listen
All I need is All I Need. That jam is better then some artist's entire career output. A great summation what they do. Of all they. Make em wait. Give a taste. And out. Leave me wanting more but also satisfied.
I love Radiohead, but I don't think this is their best album.
I like this album, I think it’s my favourite by Radiohead, but I also think a lot of that is probably because it makes me think of old friends who liked this album and in particular Jenni who always had an In Rainbows sticker on her laptop at camp. Favourite track is probably the opener 15 Step. Overall smooth and interesting stuff, but also never going to be a band I reach for often. (3.5 stars)
I still don’t get Radiohead, but this one is my favorite album of there’s. Still don’t really care for it but I don’t hate it.
I can understand the "like" on this one, but not the "love".
Very emotional album- maybe a tiny bit too mopey for me but there were some lovely songs, I can understand why people love it but I'm not one of those people. Favourite song: Nude or Faust Arp Least: Bodysnatched
Not a good album to listen to at work. Sorry guys. But I’ve heard it many times before, certainly. It’s beautiful and sinister in a way that is less… structured? differentiated? from their previous albums. That is to say, there’s a uniformity of style on this one whereas OK Computer reaches highs and lows with tracks that are much more distinct. I’ll play rhis again… but only after Kid A and OK have had their turns.
A few songs like, 15 step, are weird and wouldn’t listen to again. But overall good album
There were moments of this that I liked, but for the majority of it, I felt that Thom Yorke was kinda just up his own ass. It was interesting to finally listen to the album that was *everywhere* in 2007, though.
This is about where I'd started trailing off in my love for Radiohead's music. However, still probably better than a lot of records out there.
Radiohead is fine I guess. Sorta need to be in the mood for them. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is a cool song.
moody yet a great listen
later
07.10.25 #13 Favourite Tracks: Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi Rate: 6/10
I gotta admit this was fairly tolerable for a Radiohead album.
The Bends is one of my all time favourite albums. I really like OK computer and Pablo Honey had a few great tunes but the rest of their stuff kind of baffles me! This record is perfectly fine but doesn’t really light up for me.
Best Track - "All I Need"
I love Radiohead but this one is a bit too mumble for me.
Didn’t like the beginning at all but it grew on me by the end.
Good album with a few standout classics.
Pretty much a sad Englishman singing over melodic guitar chords. Definitely enjoyable, but not what I expected from the third best album on Rate Your Music. My favorite tracks were the hits: Weird Fishes and Jigsaw.
Didn’t really losten
I normally find Thom Yorke to be a bit whiney and woe is me, but I liked this one.
Sometimes I wonder if Radiohead were following a kind of musical version of Marxist theory: first destroy everything in order to rebuild a new and “purer” order. After conquering the world with some of the finest alternative rock of the 1990s, they tore it all down with Kid A and Amnesiac. On the ashes of those albums came this one — a blend of the old, guitar-driven Radiohead and the new, electronic, deconstructed version they seemed to have always wanted. To me, the electronics dominate — perhaps because I dislike them so much that I can’t ignore them. Still, there are traces of the earlier brilliance here: melodies, atmosphere, moments of beauty. Yet where classic Radiohead thrived on haunting melodic lines — the kind that jazz pianist Brad Mehldau or full orchestras would later play — this album feels restless and agitated. Tracks like “Bodysnatchers” and “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” make me tense; opener “15 Step” is even worse, with its messy hybrid of real and electronic drums. I’ve listened to this record many times, trying to form a fair, objective opinion, but most of it simply doesn’t stick. The songs slip away the moment they end — except for “House of Cards,” which has a touch of the old Radiohead magic, that same fragile beauty of “Street Spirit” or “Exit Music (For a Film).” The middle of the album is stronger — “All I Need,” “Reckoner,” and “House of Cards” stand out — but it’s not enough. By the time “Jigsaw Falling into Place” brings back that frantic drumming, I’m exhausted. In the end, despite flickers of greatness, it’s a disappointing record from a once truly remarkable band.
Jigsaw Falling Into Place est vraiment bonne
I feel like I should appreciate Radiohead more given that a lot of people’s music taste I trust truly love Radiohead but I’ve always found them particularly average and it’s taken me many, many, many listens to “like” certain songs.
It's alright. It does feel more pretentious than their older work, but they have talent for what they do. I'm not a fan of the more electronic sound they had but this album balances it far better. I'm now going to listen to their first three albums again.
I reflexively bought the fancy version of this album when it came out, then probably listened to it once or twice, before selling it to Amoeba before I moved. That said, this is a step up from the bloodless, distant Hail to the Thief. In Rainbows isn't hooky per se, but it has more moments that at least qualify as grabby or adjacent to grabby. With Radiohead, that's about all you can ask for.
A weird listen, but sort of addictive.
Its alright? It's not terrible but I don't think its close to the best thing Radiohead ever did.
A little boring.
This is where they left me behind.
Not an album I ever listened to much. Turns out: it's perfectly fine. Though I really struggle with Thom Yorke's voice.
It was alright, def an upgrade from kid a
Not their best work, but an enjoyable listen. Too melancholic for my taste.
Not all Radiohead is for me. And sometimes Yorke’s vocals grate. But I find this record quite listenable. A comment that would probably make Radiohead fans puke. Not their best IMO but still a good record.
It's fine but not my thing. Thom Yorke's voice is still weird.
The most fine of the Radiohead albums. And by fine, I mean it's just fine. That's it. Yorke's vocals aren't for me at all.
I guess you could look at my other Radiohead reviews to understand how I feel about them, because this album didn't change much for me. But you probably aren't going to do that, so I'll summarize it below: Radiohead makes music that is sometimes obtuse, sometimes interesting, and sometimes both. Their music is sometimes challenging, and sometimes easy to understand. What it never does, though, is stray from any of those things. You hear a song, you know it's a Radiohead song. Maybe it's the unintelligible vocals. Maybe it's the guitars or synths. Maybe it's just the general vibes. I don't know. But you know it's them. I could never hear another Radiohead album in my life and I would be 100% ok with that. I just don't get it. I never have. Thom Yorke may be singing the most relatable lyrics in the world and I'd never know it because you simply cannot understand him. The music is cool but it starts to sound a little samey after a while, album to album. Three stars. It's perfectly fine and what I expected from a Radiohead album. Which isn't always a good thing. Standout Tracks: 15 Step, Bodysnatchers, Faust Arp, Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Okay, but a bit slow
Just don't dig Radiohead.
Not my taste in vocals. Chill vibe. Drum track on the opener seemed to mismatch. The whole album felt like background music for depression.
Svp mettez moi des albums moins connus, jsp
I liked this. I might like Radiohead more than I think I do? I liked 15 step, bodysnatchers, and arpeggi.
Good as far as Radiohead albums go - which get pretty shitty after this and immediately before.
There's seemingly too much Radiohead on this list. Not to say that I particularly despised this album, it's probably their best work since OK Computer. But a majority of their modern work sort of lends itself to sad boi wailing over acoustic guitars with the occasional electronica experimentation. This particular album has its moments and may meander a bit, but closes out nicely. The marketing for this album may have been more notable than the album itself, being one of the first "pay-your-own-price" albums to be released, which was bold at the time.
Did not listen
One thing I learned with video Radiohead is that their music is not for everyone. Thom Yorke’s vocals can be pretty off-putting, and I don’t think In Rainbows exactly showcases his vocal talents. Much of this album has him mumbling, humming, or providing general vocalizations. But his vocal decisions pay off big in an album like this because his voice adds to the vibe in just the right way. The lyrics are strong, when you can understand them, and I love a good theme. In Rainbows is more of a downer than an upper, but I already said I enjoy themes.
I find a lot of Radiohead's music post-90s to be hit or miss for me. Sometimes, their music really clicks as modern and enjoyable alt rock, and sometimes it lands more as spacey art rock that doesn't really do anything for me. This album is a pretty hefty mix of both of those things. I will say, as far as post-90s Radiohead goes, this album is definitely further up there for me than some of their albums. But even still, my connection to this album felt minimal. Part of me really wishes I could connect more with Radiohead, as so many people seem to be able to. Anyway, a decent album, even if I wasn't really feeling it all the way.
I’m aware of a handful of Radiohead songs, and recognized this album artwork - not sure if it’s because I had a single track from it or because of the ‘pay-what-you-want’ download. The album starts with high energy and interesting lyrics. I overall enjoyed the music, the melodic guitar, and the haunting vocals typical for the band, but didn’t feel like the album had much direction. If I were to take two tracks with me to listen to again they would be All I Need & Reckoner, but otherwise I’m unlikely to give the album a full listen again.
Fine Radiohead as it goes
Not my fave of theirs, but atmospheric
Consistently fine, but did not grab me.
Better than I remembered! But I do not find much of it memorable at all.
Love seeing a band I’m familiar with but not sure I’ve listened to this album too many times start to finish. The basement sets on YouTube are 🤌🏻 Great modern Radiohead sound, production amazing and even better listening in headphones. Lovely variety and skill throughout and plenty of standalone tracks too. First half feels much stronger than second, but still good songs throughout, all with a different feel. Average of 3.5 as a result.
Not the last we'll hear of Radiohead. I liked "Body snatchers", "weird fishes", and "Jigsaw falling into place".
It was fine I guess, it just kind of blended together. I like pretty much every other radiohead album way more.
Best Radiohead album so far, but still meh.
Hi internet. I know this is "the greatest album of all time". I know everything thom yurk touches turns to gold midas style. I know all these things. But I dont love the music. I just dont. Its fine dont get me wrong. But I have not currently learned to levitate or shoot lasers from my eyes yet after listening to it. But jokes aside its fine. Too whispy and ethereal for my tastes. And I really dont like the vocal style at all really. Big turn off. There are one maybe two songs that have some get up in their DNA but the other 10 tracks are just so meandering and honestly uninteresting. I thought kid a was futuristic and cool but this is just whatever. No teeth for me. I'll probably never come back until I meet some hipster guy who will cut my pinky off if I dont like the radiohead. Idk man ther just are so many better records out there and I dont get the cult like following of these guys. They are good but nowhere near the praise they get on shitty message boards
thom yorke is a douchebag
I'll never understand what people hear in 2000s Radiohead, I guess. I know people who think this is the greatest album ever, and to me it's just like fine? Nothing awful, but nothing particularly standing out.
Not particularly my style I think. Maybe need to listen through it a few more times but overall didn't pique my interest.
Nothing special 3
so this is one i would say i was there for and have fell out of over the years. i got this record when it first came out, and it was an instant hit and felt like a breath of fresh air for this group. they've been around forever now, and the catalog is can be blindly picked as variation goes. this felt like they could still move with modern music, and i would listen to it while driving. Bodysnatchers should be first, not 15 Step, but its fine. i don't love every song on this, and i don't listen to it other than nostalgia.
Twee, pretentious, and boring, but still better than I expected. I see why others like this album, but I struggled to get through it.
This album is probably #3 or #4 in my list of Radiohead albums, but it's still pretty good.
Inte en skiva jag tänker på som ett av Radioheads stora album. Inget epokgörande. Men det låter ändå bra. Gillar den minimalistiska tajta ljudbilden.
I like weird fishes
more like a 3 and a half honestly
Radiohead is a good band. My son loves them! He says this is the best album ever recorded. For me, it's just so so.
Not too bad, I was at least able to listen to the entire album without an overwhelming desire to turn it off
Klingt traurig, dystopisch, nostalgisch. Viele übereinandergelegte Sounds. "Leidender" leiernder Gesang, wirkt traumhaft als wäre man in Trance.
It was good!
Got slow at times, but was still great. 15 steps and Jigsaw amazing.
The longest I’ve ever been able to stomach Radiohead outside of creep. Still can’t help that they’re the musical equivalent of thinking your shit doesn’t stink
Good, but too sad and boring for me Favourite song: Weird fishes / Arpeggi
Really solid, Yorke's voice not that grating on this
Not in the top half of the best Radiohead albums list. Solid one from them and couple of juicy tracks, but as an album it's a bit dull.
I have always felt that I don't want to listen to Radiohead just because of all the hype surrounding the band. I have a similar aversion to many bands. So, I am basically a completely new Radiohead listener and I liked the album a lot, the strings work wonders. However, this album doesn't rise to the stars in my category, because while listening, I realized the album had gone around and I hadn't noticed. This indicates either poor concentration or repetitive songs.
First time with a Radiohead album with big expectations. It had brilliant moments where I understood all the rave about them. However it felt underwhelming as a full album. It could be more a grower than a shower but I’m unlikely to find out.
A very interesting album that was well ahead of its time in 2007, and would have inspired a lot of the alternative music that came after it. However, probably not as “good” as it was important. The 90s albums like The Bends and OK Computer are still much better listening
Yep, this is definitely Radiohead. There’s always a few tracks off of their albums that click for me. I think this will need to be a repeat-listen album, because right now this is 3 stars, but I could see it going up as I get more familiar.
Overraskende chill, kunne hørt igjen
There they go again. Not giving the fans what they want, but still kicking goals anyway. Respect. Fun fact, I paid $3.50 for this album when they released it digitally on their ' pay what you like' model. Worth it. Does it appeal to me like other Radiohead albums? Not as much I don't think. Good, but not great. That's ok. Three stars.
Nice
Favorites: All I Need, Faust Arp, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Videotape
It was radiohead. It was weird and cool.
My experience with Radiohead is almost entirely limited to their mid 90s output (I love Just), so I had never heard this before. In 15 Step Thom sounds like he's singing while trying not to sneeze but I really like the drum beat. The band also appear to be channeling their inner Pink Floyd with the shouting children. By Bodysnatchers I'm fighting the urge to yell enunciate. I quite enjoyed the start, but it's a bit too much of a jam track by the end for me. Nude seemed to start with some interesting (and creepy) reversed audio but otherwise mostly passed me by. I again really liked the beat on Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Part of the backing vocals reminded me of Mike Mills from REM for some reason, which is definitely a plus point. All I Need's low booming noise throughout was very appealing, particularly through headphones, plus Thom has dialled down the muttering. Very chill but feels like it needs to explode and never does. Faust App's strings are all Beatles loveliness. Reckoner I found a bit dull. House of Cards I quite liked, but once again Thom's delivery of the vocals grated on me. Jigsaw Falling Into Place was more mumbling but the music itself was nice enough. I liked the piano on Videotape but nothing much happened despite a long build up suggesting it might (again I liked the percussion a lot). I can't say I always liked it, but it was mostly interesting. Should really be a 2.5, but: 3/5
Sure is some Radiohead. Not changing my opinion on them but it's not bad
3.5, i would say even a 4 but i don't want to include it in my next listen
I like this album. I don't really have any strong opinions about this album, most songs are decent with a couple I enjoyed. 3/5 Favorite song: Bodysnatchers Worst song: Videotape
I feel like I've heard all I need to with Radiohead from their other two big records, OK Computer and Kid A, along with some of their more typical alt-rock stuff. As an album, it's good, albeit incredibly Radiohead.
This album is in line with their others but feels more like a band inspired by Radiohead. Not my favourite stuff of theirs but consistently good, even with less standout tracks.
Couple good up beat rock songs at the beginning, but finished slow
Just mid to me. It was ok. Didn't love it didn't hate it. 3 Stars
A very different album from what I expected from Radiohead. I really enjoyed it though.
Better than expected but needs more time to get into
I liked it. It's no the bends or ok computer, but it had a few harmonic songs which after a few listens would probably make it onto a playlist somewhere. 3/5
This is an album i got when it first released. If i remember right, it was available online only or something like that? Either way, it did not hook me then, so I am excited for another attempt. This was fine. A lot of it reminded me of old radiohead. I kept checking the track name to see if it was "everything in its right place" and it never was, but you could have fooled me. Over all, its fine. I did enjoy it more than back when it first came out. So thats good!
While clearly influential, a lot of its style seems neutered and generally quite uninspired. But it's at least consistent.
I have to confess: I have never heard this record before. After OK Computer I was kind of just out on Radiohead. Dips into the subsequent records never grabbed me. And this one didn't really either, though I admire many of its textures, sounds, and ideas. And there are some killer songs, the second one especially. But not grabbed.
Some good/interesting songs here but I wasn’t blown away. We can go this deep into Radiohead’s catalog, but apparently we don’t have any women’s albums we can feature?? I know, we’re early in the 1001. Maybe today is the day?
This is one of the few albums I don't have a lot to say about. There was nothing here that demands my comments. I wish I either loved or hated it because then this review would be better
Started well then morphed in to typical Radiohead
Liked it better than hail to the thief, but only marginally
Pretty good album, enjoyed it but was in a big sad. sad mood + sad music = sad ^2
= the Beatles Radiohead up there for most overrated bands of all time. Every time I get a Radiohead album I get excited to listen and hear what everyone else does but I always end up disappointed. This album is at least music. That said, I got excited when the first song was pretty good but then the next track started that sounded like hotel lobby music and that continued for the next 40 minutes... It's fine. It's ignorable. It's the definition of 2.5 middle of the road passable music.
Sterke stukken (bijv. einde All I Need, de opgenomen strings). Ik dig niet echt z'n stem in een bak reverb (House Of Cards). Heb een mega Radiohead-fan gevraagd en dit vindt hij 't op één na beste album van ze. Ik ben nog niet radiohead genoeg om het te spotten.
kind of hard to pay attention to
This was fine but I’m not really in the mood. Want to understand the deal with Radiohead but as yet I have failed
I have never listened to this one before but it's a nice record. More accessible than most Radiohead records
Not bad
Less experimental than the other post OK computer albums. All the songs sound the same and none of them are memorable. Technically good but I am rounding this down to a 3.
Ah, it’s decent enough in the contemporary Radiohead style. However, it really lacks some standout tracks for me (first track or Faust Arp maybe the best), and overall it just feels a bit meandering. I’ve never really felt a connection to it as a result, and would head to other albums if I need a fix.
anything else than rock please
I thought it was a decent album. I don't like Radiohead that much, but there were a few good compositions. Can't complain, but don't think it's too great either.
Lowkey enjoyed it. From what I have heard I thought it would have sounded like The Smiths. Contemplated adding the Jigsaw Falling Into Place into a playlist.
This is my first listen, and it’s both how I expected and not how I expected it to sound. It’s got the usual Thom Yorke wails, which are standard Radiohead fare, but it’s a lot more tuneful than I expected it to be. I prefer Pablo Honey era Radiohead, when they were noisy Nirvana wannabes (Creep notwithstanding) but this offering is pleasant enough. A little bit distant and emotionless, but I expect that from them. The vocals are mixed too low down, and the rhythm is quite bland so there’s nothing interesting there. I think that’s the influence that Radiohead have had on contemporary popular music. The songs are also quite similar which makes the vibe dull, and I think it totally loses its way 3/4s of the way through. The last couple of tracks are dreary and protracted. On the whole though it’s better than I expected. It’s influenced future music but I don’t think I’ll be listening again too often.
Quite cool
Not much to say. It's good. Not bad.
good for them
3.5* 84%
Not their best album. 3/5
enjoyed it
This is the #3 album of all time according to rateyourmusic.com. I've tried in the past. I've really tried to figure out what I was missing. This time around I listened over and over to see if it would hit me with time...nope. I've mentioned before that I only really liked Radiohead through Ok Computer (#2 all time on RYM), then they just got too weird. This album confirmed how I feel about them. Here's a particularly bad sign - I liked it better on my car stereo obscured by road noise compared to my high-quality noise canceling headphones. In other words, I liked the album less when I could hear it clearly. This means to me the bones of the songs are decent, but the effects they used are irritating (15 step is a prime example, but also much of the album simply sounds muddy, examples include Faust Arp and House of Cards). There are also many things I dislike about Thom Yorke's singing on this album, whether it's the frequent use of falsetto or when he goes full mumble (as I've noted before, he can definitely sing "normally" and very well when he wants to). Tracks I liked most (or at least, liked the bones the most): Bodysnatchers, All I Need (I outright liked this one - very cool sound), Faust Arp, Jigsaw Falling into Place (lots of good bass lines here and throughout the album), Videotape (for the overall atmosphere of the song).
Soothing with a good mix of tempo changes. Probably my favorite Radiohead album.
Radiohead is not for me. They make good music, but it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know, maybe emotional music doesn't really affect me, and lyrical content is not something I care about much. It's too quiet, too melancholic, without many energetic parts. I wouldn't call their music boring, but I would still rather listen to something more exciting. I do like it, just don't love it like most people seem to. 7/10
Not a huge radiohead fan
Angiepilled. Previously listened to 2 songs off of this album (Weird Fishes / Arpeggi; Faust Arp). The album itself is very dreamy and transcendent, at times it felt like I was floating or being chased inside a surreal/futuristic landscape. Probably not the best album to start off with with Radiohead if you've never listened to one of their albums before (as is the case with me). It grew on me gradually and I made an effort to listen because I have always appreciated Radiohead, but if you're trying to convince someone of becoming a fan, you'd be hard-pressed to try doing that with this album. Nothing was super compelling in terms of adding it to my current rotation. It's gorgeously crafted, ultimately, but left me wanting more. I'm on the fence on whether this is a 3 or 4 for me. I can certainly see myself switching towards a 4 upon further listening sessions. Favorite Song: Nude
Good songwriting, annoying vocals -> instrumentals
I'm not going to deny it's not very pretty almost all the way through. Or that any of the vocals or instrumentals or lyrics or production were bad at any specific point. But for an album with a reputation like this one, the one that all the nerds go crazy over, I was a little underwhelmed. I've spent years avoiding the band due to a belief that I'd become even more unbearably pretentious, so this was my first full album listening experience, and I obviously needn't have worried. I did really like Bodysnatchers, All I Need and Jigsaw Falling Into Place, so this can get a 3.
So I thought, finally, a band I have wanted to explore for a long time now. I remember the hits from the first two albums, but I always heard about how unique and experimental the band became with their third album and how much acclaim it received. I decided, I can't really start with their seventh album, so I decided to listen to everything from OK Computer to In Rainbows. Well to be honest, OK Computer and Kid A bored me. I was expecting some unexpected and experimental music, but not the moody soundscape those two albums pretty much were. I skipped Amnesiac as I read it's more of a continuation of Kid A. I felt I painted myself into a corner, so I pushed on to Hail to the Thief. This album was much better, so my hopes were high for In Rainbows. I have to give the band progressive credit, as in seven albums, they keep exploring, keep changing things up. In Rainbows is a good album, as with their previous record, but are these albums something I would buy or even listen to again? I a lot of their music is an acquired taste, and maybe take a couple listens to grow on you. I am sure more albums will pop up on this list, so it will be interesting to see if my view changes. I also plan to listen to their later albums to see where the bands journey takes them. These albums are definitely a far cry from songs like "Creep" and "High and Dry", which keeps listening interesting. Favorites from this album, "Body Snatchers", "Reckoner", and "Jigsaw Falling into Place"
I can appreciate this album but I didn't really feel anything listening to it. Except for one song, which I regret not catching.
It's good.
Very mellow deep kinda depressing but has a good beat
It was OK, only a few good songs
kind of sad I like body snatchers Hmmm very emotional 3.5/5
3.5
Album is ok. Not personally familiar we ith their style of music, so not a big fan of the album.
Clearly not my favorite Radiohead's album but a really good one with always this weird and cool vibe. I particularly liked "Bodysnatchers" really intense and catchy. "Reckoner" is obviously a classic to have really enjoyable. In general the album is good but as I said not as good as it used to be.
Cool one, hadn't listened to radiohead before.
It's certainly a decent album and was pleasant enough to listen to. But Radiohead isn't really my thing and this one didn't sway me either. There were some nice moments but I wasn't paying much attention so a lot of it probably flew over my head. One of the greatest albums of all time, I guess.
Sub-par compared to their earlier albums.
Not bad by any means but not one of my favorite Radiohead albums. May be critically acclaimed (I feel like most of Radiohead's stuff is), but this doesn't do it for me. A little too much ghoulish waling and not enough songs where I think "wow that sounds beautiful" which is how I feel about some of their work. 5.5/10 (2.75/5)
A bit better out still slightly depressing
Melancholisch, sehr ruhig, laut den Streamingzahlen erfolgreich, „Videotape“ bester Track, All I Need und Weired Fishes sind in den Top 10 vom Künstler -> für meinen Geschmack zu wenig power
I'm not a Radiohead person.
Dachte anfangs ist n elektronisches Album lol Insg standard Radiohead Kram, kannte vorher keinen Titel glaub ich Jigsaw Falling Into Place ende wie Muse Letzter Titel cool mit den offset drums
Enjoyed it but in a passive/background kind of way. Strong nostalgia to the Troy B&N days when it was ubiquitous.
Mostly good tracks - very Radiohead!!
First 4 songs were bangers. Fell apart after that.
Sehr divers Sehr experiment zum teil. Under anderem weg eim banger lied Runded mir uf uf drü regebogeboulvard rundene im mariokart uf hoffed mir das ich nüm so nalahne wie die letste bar rundene, hed mich us de bahn gschosse wies halt amigs vor chund im mario kart.
[7/10] Always dreary thom is
Au ächli Depro. Cooli Rhythme mit Gitarre- und Synthikläng. Grundsätzlich ächli zruhig für mich. Reckoner hät öppis. Gfalltmer. Jigsaw au.
He weiss nöd, es het mi chli verlore. Han glaub au nöd sehr aktiv glost
Alright, not my fav
Decent and surprising, considering it's Radiohead. 3/5
I liked it
3+ Stars (9/15)
It is not a bad album, but Radiohead doesn't draw me in. It has a couple of notable songs but many are easily forgettable. I will listen to it again to see if my initial impression improves.
This album is o.k. Nothing more
I don't understand this type of music, but good
Look this is my 3rd Radiohead album in as many weeks. I have made my feelings on them perfectly clear at this point. I don't have the ability/ desire to talk about this band again. 7/10
Pleasant enough, but hookless, and so completely overshadowed by OK Computer it's not even funny. You don't have to put 5 of every band's albums on the list!! You can just do the best one! 3.5
First half of the album: A little repetitive, kind of too soft for my taste of rock. Nothing spectacular but also not bad. Probably wouldn’t listen to it again though. Reckoner is pretty good. Overall 3/5
Prima album, fijn voor tijdens het leren. Lekker ambiant en gewoon een lekker geluid
Hey! Pay whatever you want! Modern day Hippie! Like it.
Love the band but way better albums in the Radiohead collection.
The instrumentation is great, but his voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard
Pretty good album! Not my favorite from Radiohead but it was still a good listen.
I feel that I need to put some context to this review. Prior to starting this project, my knowledge of Radiohead was minimal. As in, all I knew really was Creep. Yea, I was that guy. This is my second Radiohead album. The first album I got was The Bends. It became one of the few albums I gave five stars to and I might go as far as to call it one of the best alternative music albums of the 90’s. It felt like a good starting point as someone unfamiliar with Radiohead. So naturally, this album was next. I understood that this was a couple of albums away since The Bends, but figured I would probably still enjoy it just the same. Here’s the problem: I didn’t love In Rainbows. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate this album. There are good tracks, such as Bodysnatchers, Nude and Videotape. But compared to what I expected from Radiohead, this was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe I should have got OK Computer or Kid A prior to this, since it felt way different from The Bends. It was more softer, kind of similar to Coldplay (which may or may not be a good thing). I mean, I get it. It wasn’t the nineties anymore and Radiohead obviously evolved as a band. But personally, it didn’t click with me. The second half of the album felt like the same mellow song, just tweaked over and over. Honestly, I feared that perhaps I over-rated The Bends on account that it was Radiohead and re-listened to that only to discover that I still enjoyed that album. Maybe you’re reading this and thinking it’s stupid to compare those albums. You’re probably right, but that’s all I have to my Radiohead experience. I feel like this disappointment might be on me, since maybe OK Computer or Kid A could have helped prepare me for this album. But as is, I only thought this album was ok. It’s better than most, but for a band like Radiohead, it’s kid of a letdown. I hope I don’t feel the same with more of their albums down the road. Favorite track: Bodysnatchers Other hits: Nude, Videotape, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, House of Cards
Very pretty but not for me. Possibly too advanced for my thinking
3 sterne
Try as I might, I just don't really enjoy Radiohead's music, sadly. This seems like a decent Radiohead album, and more varied than most, but very little resonated with me. For some strange reason, nearly every track on this album on YouTube Music had an associated video, which made the listening experience a bit more interesting, although I couldn't initially tell whether all of the videos were actually commissioned or produced by Radiohead (the Wikipedia entry clarified that many of the videos were contest winners from a Radiohead competition). "15 step" had a bizarre Japanese animation (not as bizarre or compelling as OK Computer's "Paranoid Android", though); "Nude" had slightly mesmerizing slow-mo-in-reverse footage of the band members playing; "Weird fishes" had a high-quality stop-motion animation story about...something involving forect creatures, flying fish, witches, etc.; "All I need" seemed to be some sort of anti-sweatshop video (apparently part of MTV's Exit Campaign, whatever that is); "Reckoner" had a really interesting but extremely ambiguous animation about the perils and cycles of population growth and overgrowth; "House of cards" had a far less interesting effects-filter lens on Thom Yorke singing the song (apparently LIDAR); and "Jigsaw falling into place" had a kind of boring head-mounted camera sequence of the band members playing in a room. It kept me paying attention, though!
3.5
I really hate to say this is an album I find extremely overrated. I liked their other stuff but this was not for me.
It was fine. Not super memorable, the songs blended together a bit and I didn’t really love any of them.
This was not as bad as I expected it to be... at least the first track. It seemed to go downhill from there.
Some talent here, but not into it.
Not my favourite radiohead album!
Love this concept based band of experimental rock and rollers. This is not theor best album yet better than 99% of any album out there
It was mid frfr
Eh It’s aight Didn’t save any
Reckoner, 3 stars. The bends and OK Computer are peak 5 star radiohead albums.
Has songs that contain great moments (Reckoner is fantastic, sans the chorus; Nude and Bodysnatchers are mostly good as well), but none that work all the way through. Has many weaker, even annoying tracks as well (Faust Arp, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, House of Cards, Videotape). Not Radiohead's finest, but by no means their worst.
Neither here nor there, chill U2 vibes
Not as good as ok computer
I think it's fine. It's just this is my 4th or 5th Radiohead album basically within a year and at a certain point, it's diminishing returns. They ALL had to be on the list? Really?
Not their best
