Reviews (page 10 of 15)
I've listened to other Radiohead albums in the past but never to any of the songs off of this one. I liked quite a few songs off of this, but Radiohead is a bit difficult for me to rate because I find that I have to be in a specific mood and setting to listen to and enjoy their songs, plus their music was a bit of an acquired taste if I'm being totally honest. So I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars.
Many remember this for the manner in which it was released ("pay what you want"), I more remember it for the first Radiohead album that came out after I was already an unabashed fan. Doesn't quite reach the heights of their preceding albums but still very, very good.
Starts great, but gets a bit repetitive. Wonderfully produced
This one is good. Changes my opinion of Radiohead a bit.
I am really really really really liking Radiohead these days. Just listened to this album a few weeks ago, still need a bunch more listens of all of their albums to get a better feeling of them all. I have a friend who is an obsessive Radiohead fan who said that In Rainbows was his favorite and a good portion of the rabid fan community seems to agree. I believe that Radiohead is the next incarnation of Pink Floyd and much of their creative direction. I liked In Rainbows a lot; nothing stood out as being smashingly good to me like on a few other Radiohead works. I really don’t think I can give this a better or more critical review without a few more listens. A solid four star that will probably get better with time.
This ones pretty good. However it felt like it faded into background music very quickly. Good background music but I dont feel like it engaged me very much. I think I will still give it 3.5 stars but its closer to 4
Listened at home while eating and playing catan
Good stuff. Radiohead never disappoints.
This is probably the best experience I've had listening to Radiohead - either i'm starting to 'understand' a bit better or this is just a really great record. Or both. Although highlights for me were House Of Cards and Bodysnatchers and they are in the lower half for Spotify play count so even when I like Radiohead I like the songs other people don't I guess haha
This album is so good and it’s still not a top 5 Radiohead album.
4/5 because if Kid A and OK Computer at 5/5 this has to be lower
4/5
Very good, bit subdued for me but very good low-key music
7/5/10
- Chill vibes while listening - Make me want to relax - Could listen to this album at night before bed
Not my fave band. Decent but too whiny for me
Good album. Jigsaw and bodysnatchers stuck out to me this listen
enjoyed the eclectic nature. I tend to enjoy this artist in general, they didn't disappoint.
twas good. Didn't pay enough attention cause was doing stuff but i enjoyed it
good
Cat: I really like this! Very creative and different AJ: my first new Radiohead album. At least the first new one I cared about. First one I was there for? It’s pretty good.
Not the best radiohead songs
quirky ass indie kids will do tricks for this album like it’s tony hawk pro skater, but they’re not wrong to do so (just know you’re annoying af)
Really nice listen! Easy to tune out and tune in
Radiohead remains a band where I need to listen to their albums a few times in order to “get” it. I preferred Kid A to this though.
Fantastic!
stand out track - Weird Fishes / Arpeggi
In Rainbows by Radiohead is a solid indie rock/ambient outing
yes
great album... but perhaps not THE greatest.
Great, Radiohead produced this disk. I remember I downloaded the version legally and free from their website. A good album, not the best Radiohead album. 3.75.
I don't really like Radiohead, so this is going to be tough. I liked 15 Step until the beat did a weird change-up. Bodysnatchers is solid the whole way through, maybe I like it because of the straightforwardness. The subtleness of the instrumentation can be cool to notice.
Groundbreaking release format. Great album to boot.
I like this album best when it doesn’t know what genre it wants to be— or, perhaps when it wants to everything all at once.
Highlights: 15 Step, House Of Cards. In a nutshell: an abstract evolution. Overall: 7/10
Have listened to this album many times before, but paid more attention to the lyrics this time. Made me feel sad and happy, a bit wistful.
Good stuff, nothing wrong with it tbh but it’s just not like my FAVORITE thing even tho I don’t rlly have any problems with it. pretty cool
Really big fan of this one. Haven't listened to a ton of Radiohead, but this one was pretty good the whole way through. Reckoner and Weird Fishes are my choice picks.
Wow this was great
Hard to describe other than musically mature, beautiful and melodic. No real “hits” but really enjoyed the interplay between the band and the layers upon layers of cool sound. Tom Yorke sounds much more grown up as an artist and didn’t mind his voice this time. I never really listened to this album back in the day and missed out.
I think this might be like the 3rd Radiohead album I've gotten. I really like this one. Nude is a great track. Weird Fishes is soooooo good!! All I Need is great too. Good album! 4 stars
Weird fishes and Reckoner <3 the rest were okay
Nice mellow
You inevitably have to compare this to what came before, and I don't love it like I do Ok Computer/Kid A/Amnesiac. For me this seemed like a revisiting of what they had already done rather than something innovative, which is why it's a 4* for me. That said, it's still Radiohead and has beautiful moments - Reckoner is a classic.
It took me a long time to warm up to Radiohead. I was aware of when they were first gaining some notoriety, but I couldn't quite crack into what Radiohead had to offer. I also remember the news about how In Rainbows was released as a pay-what-you-want online purchase, but I never heard a single track. I was pleasantly surprised with this album. The vocals were given a chance to carry more melody and not as much angst in their delivery. Radiohead has some tracks on earlier albums that leave me feeling a negative vibe. This album flowed from track to track, and I finished knowing that I could listen again to have a chance to hear what I may have missed the first time through.
I love OK Computer and early Radiohead. I struggled with this though. I listened to it twice and nothing really stood out, but I felt there were hidden depths. I don't feel it should be getting a 4-star rating on the basis that it might grow on me, but the fact I heard so much new stuff on a second listening was enough to push it from 3 to 4 stars.
I like this one.
Good fun, saved
Very good album - worth a few listens.
Love it, but not my favorite Radiohead album. Jigsaw falling into place is my favorite Radiohead song though.
Favourite tracks: reckoner; 15 steps; house of cards; all I need
Classic that just gets better
Not my favourite Radiohead album but love many songs on this album 7/10
Setting the album up for success by opening with 15 Step. Faust Arp and Reckoner are the other two I go back to a lot.
I have a general prejudice about post-melody Radiohead and I don't think I bothered listening to this much after I availed myself of their generous offer to download it for free. However, my reaction to this surprised me. Sure, they were drifting away from songs to sounds and mood scapes, and deep into prog rock, but this is an interesting album. Johnny Greenwood is a genius and I found myself quite immersed in this.
I remember the big hype around this one because you could pay whatever you wanted to get a digital copy of the album. The good old days before music distribution platforms eh? Looking back this feels like a consolidation Radiohead album where they still do the electronic experimentation but in a more standard a song structure. A best of both worlds type of Radiohead album. Highlights: Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Reckoner, Jigsaw Falling Into Place
This is fun to listen to. Hell of a lot going on, but it all comes together. Great lyrics, production is impeccable, feels completely original, fun to listen to. One of the bands greatest works. Not my favorite of theirs due to lack of range, but definitely top three. 4/5
I listened to this for another list in the last year and rated it a 3.5. Considered just re-rating it the same, but didn't wanna miss the chance to listen to Nude again, so I listened through the whole thing again. This album never fully clicked for me, after loving Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief. However, today it is clicking. I really enjoyed it and even though it has a cleaner sheen than the previous albums, I'm feeling it. Nude is great (duh), but so is House of Cards, 15 Step, Bodysnatchers. The songs that click less with me are still good. 4/5
These Radiohead guys are nice to listen to. I never really like any individual songs but really like the album overall. Guess that means the songs kind of run together so that would be my only criticism of it.
A brilliant concept and the instrument is amazing. Greenwood's talents writing movie scores really on display.
I'm firmly in The Bends / OK Computer era, but you have to admire a band that constantly evolves and experiments.
Beautiful, progressive, complex, intricate and at times indecipherable Radiohead. Lovely album.
7 outta 10 saved to my fav songs! *Edit* Such a great Album and its the First album i had on this list lmaooo. I had the regret of giving it a 3 Star because i didnt knew how good this album is compared to all these elvis costello albums at least lmaooo
LP
This is lovely and was a return to form after Hail to the Thief, but I still question giving one band 6 spots on this list. Regardless, this is an excellent album, if not quite as consequential as the band’s earlier work.
Really good, but not quite 5/5 for me. That might be down to the genre. But I find I can easily let it be background music, which can be nice but doesn’t say 5/5 to me. Super solid, though, and very worth listening to!
perhaps the best radiohead album? i'm giving 5's sparingly but this is 4.8
The first side feels like a trance, in a good way. Still think it is one of the best of its decade.
It's a good album; several really strong tracks, though it can feel a little monochromatic at times.
I appreciate Thom York and the gang but much like Beyoncé it isn't ever really something I choose to put on when left to my own devices. Would give it a 4.5 if I could! Hard to think of critiques or praise of this album that hasn't already been said ad nauseum. It's probably a reverse recency bias but I found myself appreciating the back half of this album more this time around
It’s Radiohead so I feel like there’s very little I can add to the conversation. As an album it’s cohesive and eerie. It’s missing the oomph to make it a 5 for me but great nonetheless. All I Need, Reckoner, Videotape are the faves. All I need
One if those albums that made me realize I like other things than just classic rock. Radiohead was weird (good) music to me growing up but now it’s just good
I own one Radiohead album and this is it. Despite being critically acclaimed, a lot of their music is esoteric and not easy to get. This is very different. Far more accessible and easy to enjoy.
I knew this album as the first major "pay what you want" album but had never actuall heard the music before. It is sonically impressive and though it was released in 2007 still sounds futuristic. A really interesting blend of technology and human elements that made me feel like this is the kind of stuff the Beatles might be doing if they were making music in the 21st century. The basslines were fantastic and the guitar parts had really nice texture. As I typed that previous sentence I realize what a massive compliment I just gave Radiohead and that I must give this album a high score. However, I do wish the melodies were stronger, some of these songs felt too atmospheric and not enough like "songs" which would not have happened on a Beatles record. I do think melodies are really imporatant ot what I look for so that was the disappointmnet for me. A great album that felt a bit too much like work to listen through. Would do a 4.5 if possible.
I remember being underwhelmed with this album when I first heard it, and wrote off 'latter years Radiohead' in general, but actually it's been really nice to re-visit this. First off I think the production on this is sublime. There's so many interesting layers to the songs, lots of variation in tempo and style, and just a very consistent mood sitting underneath the whole thing. It's definitely a whole album experience, I don't think I would dip into any of these songs individually from here.
Not in love with Thom Yorke's singing voice. I do really love the guitar, bass, and drums though. I bet you could convince people that Weird Fishes / Arpeggi is a U2 song. Regardless, it is a certified jam. All I Need is another certified jam. Love the entire crescendo at the end especially drums and keyboard. Videotape is a great way to end this album. It's unsettling in a good way. I definitely grew to appreciate Thom Yorke's falsetto more as another instrument in the whole ensemble as the album went on. The technical skill and variety of the guitar and drums are what really stood out to me. This album was good, but does not inspire me to get a silly mouse tattoo. I wonder if this is the latest album that will be on this list.
Absolute banger. I don't even really like radiohead but In Rainbows is a special album. Videotape and Last Flowers are my favorite (I listened to the 2 disc version)
Not their best album but it's a lot closer to the top then I remember! Starts off with two absolute bangers!
There are a few Radiohead albums on this list, and I'll be keeping an eye out for them. Never listened to them before - I get it now.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: I really did enjoy it, very raw and powerful with the use of experimental sound and extended vocals in parts (gonna have to revisit this one) Favourite song: Track 7 - Reckoner
best: house of cards worst: faust arp overrated: weird fishes/arpeggi underrated: videotape Overall: 4.2/5
Radiohead is as always great. They're experimental but not too much, artsy but not in an annoying way and uses electronic instruments in moderation. As usual the words in Thom Yorke's singing is hard to understand at times but it doesn't matter that much (c'mon, I listen to death metal with death growling). In Rainbows is not Radioheads best album in my opinion but it's still a great album. Songs like Bodysnatcher, Reckoner and Jigsaw Falling into Place are all songs I go back and listen to from time to time.
Still a very good album
I've never gotten super into Radiohead but I have been impressed by what they do and I enjoyed this album. Hopefully I will get more from this artist soon 4/5
Radioheads second best album? It’s a tough one to call as we all know that their discography is second to none. This album is melodic, calm and also exciting. It’s not OK Computer (but then, what is?) and that will put some people off. This is an excellent album from start to finish and I’ll never tire of hearing it. Truly exceptional.
Incredibly classic and regarded by many as one of greatest of all time. I don’t love all the way through like I do some but so many good ones.
I've come to like this album over the years, but never have really enjoyed it. That being said, its good. I think Faust arp is my favorite song on the thing. Give me OK computer, the Bends, or Pablo honey any day.
this album kind of loses me in the middle. I've always really liked jigsaw falling into place, some other goodies as well
As I get older, my relationship with Radiohead complicates. For the longest time I dismissed them as too sad, but as my appreciation for music and music theory develops its hard to ignore their commitment to write music thats developing ideas and genres. So, 4 stars - Nude and Weird Fishes are great, I don't quite get the rest yet but it seems to me that some day I might.
Radiohead in its whole glory.
It’s the best Radiohead has to offer
Good album
I really enjoy the weird vibes that Radiohead gives me. They always put me in this place somewhere in-between. I love the guitar, and the way the songs have you kind of floating into space. The eerie vocals double down on their strangeness and bring me to edge of some abyss, I'm asking for more. I've always been a fan of this odd music, and in rainbows reminds me that I haven't listened to enough recently. 20/15 bananas.
It's Radiohead. 4 stars
Need to give these guys more listens. Never loved any of their songs really but have never hated any either.
Nude - Soooo goood. The kind of song that make you feel something inside, changes your mood entirely. Outstanding vocal Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - My friend recommended this song to me before. Good music to listen to, but I dont know what this song is about. All I Need - I used to listen to this a lot. Faust Arp - This might be the best one so far. I am not sure why didnt I give a lot of love for this album before. This is actually really freakin good 4.2/5
Another case of multiple listens matters.
One of their best!
Never gave this one the proper time it undoubtedly deserves. This is partially due to my confusion over how to react to the initial release format. I kind of stalled out and just ended up listening to other people's copies/downloads instead of getting my own. I do recall listening to it on a particularly memorable road trip, but it's the trip itself that I remember, not the music. It just didn't grab me in the same way as their earlier material had. Listening to it now, it's basically like listening to a brand new album. I have no real memory of any of these songs. I do like it, there's plenty that I like here, but I guess that's simply the nature of one's relationship to any great band or artist that manages to last long enough; you eventually find a point of where you simply begin to drift a bit further away. Not to say that you won't drift back again at some point. This was a transitional time both in music and in my life. The music industry was trying to figure out how to better integrate with digital downloading and this album was a big step. A step that sort of overshadowed the actual music for me. As far as my life was concerned, I had just come off a major breakup and was starting my relationship with Janie. It was a rollercoaster ride, especially at first, but I was largely in a stage of a renewed optimism and infatuation. I didn't have much room for Thom Yorke's cryptic existential doom musings. It just wasn't the right backdrop for me at the time. Listening to it now though, there still does seem to be something missing from this album when I compare it to their earlier work (which might be unfair). Like I said, there's plenty I like here, but its more a matter of what I feel is a lack of cohesiveness overall. I definitely have a strong preference for Side A. But Side B, from "Faust Arp" on, it just sort of loses it's momentum and can't seem to recover from that stark tone shift. It could also simply be that I am somewhat desensitized to their sound by this point - having built up a tolerance of sorts.
Kind of had this on in the background and it made for quite relaxing working music, when I did pay more attention to it I could definitely appreciate the interesting sounds so will come back to this one again if I find myself wanting to listen to something a bit different
Best Song: Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. That guitar work is beautiful. It really feels like it takes up all the space in your brain. Worst Song: Nude. Aptly titled, as Yorke's voice is laid a bit too bare here, and with nothing to hide behind it sounds extra warbly. Overall: Compelling, clearly "indie" music that always feels crunchy and unique. I really like how much is going on in each track, which gives an intoxicating sense of complexity to the whole album. Probably the most I've liked Radiohead.
Great Radiohead Album, just not The Bends
Really enjoyable, less paranoid spaceman, beautiful vocals, great musicianship. Radiohead I will be exploring you more now
"In Rainbows" is the seventh studio album by English rock band Radiohead. The album was eventually produced by Nigel Godrich after Spike Spent didn't work. The band used conventional rock instruments plus electronic instruments, strings, piano and the ondes Martenot. The lyrics were less political than previous albums. As lead singer Thom Yorke described them: " an anonymous fear thing, like sitting in traffic thinking you should be doing something else." I've been there. The band limited the album to under 45 minutes (actually 42). That's a good thing. The album was famous for being self-released, a pay-what-you-want download. I remember that. It also won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. "15 Step" starts the album with a hanclap rhythm inspired by Peaches "Fuck the Pain." Guitar coming in. Organ keeping the background music. Frustration about not being able to break pattern. Thom Yorke said "Bodysnatchers" was based on Wolfmother, Neu! And dodgy hippie rock. A underlying grinding guitar. Layered guitars. Eerie keys. More hand clapping. Cool song. The second single "Nude" was actually their first single since "Creep" to make the Billboard Top 40. Just a drum beat, strings and a slow guitar progression. Majestic ending. Can't change the world around you. "All I Need" ends Side One and is also one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Guitar, glockenspiel. About unrequited love. The piano picks up the pace and the songs ends in chaos. Johnny Greenwood had the string section play every note of on the scale and blanket the frequencies trying to create white noise. The quality does not step down on side two. "Rekoner" has clanging percussion, meandering guitar, piano, strings and Yorke in falsetto. Life doesn't last forever. "House of Cards" is softer with a plodding guitar, strings and Yorke now wailing. People leaving unstable marriages to be with each other. The first single was "Jigsaw Falling into Place." A quicker beat. Guitar led. I think about the impossibility of finding someone of significance when you go out drinking. Yorke did say it was based on the chaos of drinking. "In Rainbows" has a few of my favorite Radiohead songs. I also feel this album really has no filler; every song fits and is worth a listen. I think their album goal of 45 minute worked. It's difficult for me to rank Radiohead but this would be in upper half.
OK Computer.
Rock indie
Good but it was too depressing for my depressed monday mood
Pas mal!
I wish Radiohead made a long-lasting impression on me with an album that wasn't OK Computer.
I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Long notes and smooth voice, perfect music for a rainy afternoon where you want to lean into the coziness of the weather without being bogged down by it.
Pretty (in Radiohead terms) and less rock than might have been assumed from hearing Bodysnatchers. A really good all round Radiohead album.
This album is lauded but for me it feels like Radiohead light. It's held up to be as good as OK Computer and Kid A but it isn't. It's more Amnesiac level. It's just a tad too subdued for me and it's following the Radiohead formula at this point - Dadist style lyrics, occasional glitchy electronics but nothing too scary and some guitar drizzled over the tracks. Great if it was someone else but only really good for this band. Best Tracks: Bodysnatchers; Weird Fishes/Arpeggi; Jigsaw Falling Into Place
This was close to a five.
Right? Should listen again
Apparently (per Wikipedia), Andy Kellman of AllMusic wrote that In Rainbows "will hopefully be remembered as Radiohead's most stimulating synthesis of accessible songs and abstract sounds, rather than their first pick-your-price download". I haven't listened to most of their albums, but I'm inclined to agree.
It’s not what I expected that’s for sure. It’s a very thoughtful and intimate album. Will be listening to again.
4/5 vaikka ei olekkaan Muse
I may be becoming a tougher grader. This is my 27th album and seconod Radiohead album. Hail to the Thief was #14 and I commented that any other Radiohead album would likely get a 5 rating. I'm going with a 4 on this one. Really good album and songs. I'm not totally sure what's missing...maybe the songs need to work together a bit more than they do. There are few bands that do that better than Radiohead. I guess the weak spots for me are the front half of Bodysnatchers (love the second half), Faust Arp, Jigsaw Falling Into Place and Videotape. Again, not bad songs, just not songs that bring this whole album to a 5. Maybe Radiohead's arc is straying outside of what I like the most about the band. I haven't gotten through "King of Limbs" or "Moon Shaped Pool," but need to give both another try or two.
I’m generally pretty positive on this one, “Nude” kind of brings the thing to a screeching halt
In Rainbows is an album that I've heard a lot about since its release, so I was very surprised that I didn't recognize any song! But I'm glad I didn't so I could experience for the first time. This album has an interesting mix of digital and analogue and it flows so tenderly. The music feels both complex and effortless, experimental but familiar. I have never heard anything quite like it. Thom Yorke's voice is a treat to listen to!
This is a very good album — a classic, even, for it's time. But isn't it kind of weird that none of this music is really memorable? Shouldn't a classic album have songs and melodies that stick with you over time?
Listened Before? N Radiohead definitely has a style. This one is no different. It makes me feel like I'm stoned out of my mind when completely sober. I actually don't mind this feeling, but it takes a certain day to want to feel that way. That being said, as an album, this one is fairly coherent and well made. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Weird Fishes, House of Cards
in rainbows got that 15 steps to the apocalypse. fuck yall. good album.
It's not my fave Radiohead album. but it's still great
I am definitely getting some exposure to Radiohead in this project, and I am pleased. I would like to spend some more time with the album because it was generally appealing to me, but I had too many distractions today to know for sure how I feel about it.
Still not completely in love with Radiohead but I'm closer? Once again, there were a couple of songs that felt like something special. The rest is better than fine just not quite there.
I received this album for free when it was released via the whole "Pay What You Want" system. Don't blame me. I'm Gen X, and that move was right on brand.
Not their best but still good
Know this well. As Easy listening as Radiohead has got ! excellent
Enjoyed
4.3 + This is Radiohead at their most subtle and mature. I miss the murky electronic quagmires on "Kid A" and the moments of ecstatic opera on "Let Down." But after a couple of relatively weaker releases ("Amnesiac", "Hail to the Thief"), "In Rainbows" feeling like a true return to form. For once, their studio wizardry and abstruse musical influences took a backseat allowing us to hear the music for what it is. The first half is brilliant, particularly "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi." The second half lags somewhat with "Reckoner" and "House of Cards" but "Videotape" wraps it with a hauntingly beautiful closer. Of their brilliant albums, this one rests somewhere at the bottom of their first tier but it's a wholly satisfying album nonetheless.
The first two songs had me thinking that they had changed their sound since I listened to them in the 90s, but then it got back to their roots. Solid album.
I really enjoyed this album. And I didn’t even realize I liked Radiohead!
Super mellow. Would be a good Sunday morning album.
Already at song 4 i can say that this album is one the best i've heard
While I like Radiohead, I haven't listened to a ton of their stuff. I've mostly only ever been a fan of Kid A, and the singles from OK Computer. I was aware of this album but hadn't listened to it. I liked it a lot! I don't think I'd add it into my regular rotation of music, but if a Radiohead mood struck, I wouldn't hesitate to listen to this again.
Own it on vinyl - 4 stars.
More upbeat and funky than I thought it would be. The only songs I knew prior were Nude and Weird Fishes - one of which is outright depressing/beautiful, and the other melancholy - so my expectations were set for something with similar tone throughout but I was pleasantly surprised! Pretty sure I’ve heard 15 steps before… I want to say it was in twilight but would need to check lol (confirmed :o). Big fan of it, on my second listen through. On my first listen, the last few tracks felt like it was dragging on a bit, but let’s see how the second round goes.
Realmente, bueno.
beter dan verwacht voor radiohead
Not that big of a fan of Radiohead, but it was a nice album to listen to.
this was a nice album, new to me, with some good variety. my favorite songs were nude which the title made me laugh, weird fishes, and faust arp. creative, unconventional, and enjoyable.
Very enjoyable- glad I listened to it!
my notes for each song as i listen to them: the album starts on a pretty high note, with 15 step having a very upbeat sound. bodysnatchers has some sick overlayed guitar. nude is absolutely one of my favourite tracks on the album, it takes on an entirely different feel compared to the first two, and is incredibly melancholy while building so gracefully; this song makes me feel so much. i love the feel of weird fishes/apreggi, the guitar and the drums blend with the vocals so smoothly. this band is a god when it comes to builds. All i need is VERY low compared to what the album has been so far, the sound is super deep leading up to the end. faust arp is pretty close to acoustic and is quite the change from the electric guitar used on the other tracks. not as prominent of a build compared to the others. this album keeps coming at me with the vibes from every angle. reckoner pulls it back into a rather upbeat sound that still manages to have that undertone of sadness with the vocals. house of cards has some amazing lyrics. the vocals are beautiful as well. definitely another favourite jigsaw falling into place feels a little more fast paced to some of the other tracks, the drums and the guitar slay so hard in it. absolutely another favourite, i’m a sucker for fast songs with some good vocals. videotape finishes this album off on quite a somber note. the piano a stark contrast to some of the other tracks. the vocals also feel a lot more prominent. the lyrics are a little crushing, they’ve got me entirely in my feels. i rushed this album a little bit because i’m almost at my mark so i absolutely didn’t go into the depth i wanted to with what i thought of each song, but overall i really like this album.
Standouts: Nude, All I Need, Faust Arp, Reckoner, House of Cards, Jigsaw Falling into Pieces and Videotape. Great album. 4/5
I liked to listen to this album on a Monday morning, but I miss the "dark" tone I was expecting from Radiohead. I know that the lyrics of this album are far from optimistic, but it does not look like the same band from "Ok computer," even being a good release.
15 Step was a great intro to the album, the snappy distorted percussion grabbed my attention. The smooth sound engineering on the guitar really feels pronounced when it enters stage and rounded out by the vocals makes for a wonderful soundscape when the chorus kicks in. The album really hits a stride for me on Nude, there's a sad romanticism to the album, progressing through the songs and developing like a open ended question. Personally really intriguing. Coming back for a second listen the lyrics start to stick out, there's a litany of metaphor underpinning the albums theme.
Not an album one can comprehend after one time listening. But I'm highly intrigued. Great Sounds, Great Singing, unconventional - therefore interesting - rhythems and song structures. 4/5 for me at the moment. With the potential to go up to a 5/5 after a couple of additional times listening to it.
Whew! I'm always a big fan of Radiohead. This album is kind of the perfect soundscape to be bummed out to. Vocals are emotionally raw, production is on point--all in all a rewarding listening experience, and definitely one I'd return to. A few tracks I felt meh about but that's personal preference; overall an incredibly strong album. Fave track: 15 step. The opening track is straight FIRE. Love everything about it. Fave track:
Good album not my favorite Radiohead so a 4 will do
Not as high as the highs of OK Computer and Kid A, but serviceable.
Somehow, I had never listened to this in its entirety
It's not bad, in fact it's solid listening but nothing since Amnesiac has moved me the same way. I like this album, but I'll listen to the the Holy trinity (OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac) any day over this. I really want to like this and all their other records that followed Amnesiac much more.
clean mushy moody vaguely somber. classic Radiohead
'It was grand. Not the worst shite.' - Jane (3) 'Didn't hear much but liked what I heard' - Bill (3.5) 'Great album. Good memories.' - Shannah (3.5/5) 'Class.' - Conor (4.3/5) (3.575/5)
Enjoyable, but didn't set my mind alight.
Muito bom.
On the whole, In Rainbows is a spatial and casually meandering album that feels at once both intricately detailed and yet effortlessly crafted. From reading the related Wikipedia article, it sounds like creative process that brought the band to this end was chaotic, but I would never have guessed from listening. Overall, the mood of the album is very cohesive and gives off an air of genre-bending high-art rock. While the majority of the album flirts back and forth between the upper boundaries of melancholy and the lower boundaries of explosion, the one track that bursts through with non-stop energy is 'Bodysnatchers'. I love this track and would be interested to hear a mix of the album that builds up to this as the conclusion, since it feels like such a perfect culminating track.
Ah Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood, the Creepy Freak twins at some of their most personally reflective here. Lovely album, particularly like "15 Step" and "Nude" too. These Oxford boys know how to turn out a good tune. Great album and rightfully on this list.
I've always found that Radiohead albums take an extra bit of effort for me to get into them. But once I get over Thom Yorke's whiney voice I can say that the music is undoubtedly nuanced and complex and they certainly have musical chops. This album is very understated and nothing jumps out at you, but there are some very good keepers here, including Weird Fishes/Apeggi, Videotape, and Nude.
I have yet to listen to a Radiohead album I didn't like
favorite: Jigsaw falling into place least favorite: 15 step
This album is beautiful, I really enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this.
First Radiohead album to pop up on this list, and it's one from 2007 which is a bit of a surprise. Don't recognize any song titles but let's see how this goes, as I really have enjoyed their major albums that I do expect will show up as I work through this. This album *feels* like Radiohead, but it also seems watered down and definitely not as impactful as something like OK Computer, or Kid A. Mostly Thom Yorke wailing along to some lofi instrumentals. It's ok, but hard to grasp why this is on the list. If I'm rating this as a Radiohead album, probably a 3. On its own merits though it's at least a 4
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: 15 step, Reckoner
3.8 - very accessible Radiohead album. Lacks the nostalgia factor of some of their earlier releases for me, but very enjoyable and listenable.
Chilled sad vibes but also peaceful, kinda lost in space Scifi vibes
My favorite Radiohead album
Red and yellow and pink and green, Orange and purple and blue. I can sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow, You can sing one too Black and brown and grey and black, Black and blue and red. I can beat my wife up, Beat my wife up, Beat her 'til she's dead
Not bad, rustig
Cet album n'a présenté absolument aucune surprise.
I had this friend who was just ... well, he was a good guy but he was pretentious AF. Just really into the "you couldn't possibly fathom this" side of art. He was also the biggest Radiohead fan I've ever met. Consequently, I've never had much interest in exploring Radiohead's catalogue. But, if this project has taught me anything, it's to be open-minded so I approached this album with a clean slate. I'm glad I did. It was not nearly as bad as I imagined it would be. In fact, much of it was exceptional. Was it a bit up its own butt? Assuredly. But the production was stellar and the songs were fun for the most part. Great background music for a morning of "git 'er done."
Buenisimo
Not my kind, I’ve knew Radiohead many years ago, when I liked Muse much more than now. The lyrics are very good.
Well, it's definitely Radiohead. Can't fault them for having a style.
This was decent but I preferred OK Computer.
It’s great. But not quite at The Bends/ OK Computer levels
What's this? A radiohead album I don't full dull and actively enjoy.. It really is the end of times
First time listening to Radiohead, pleasantly surprised. Bodysnatchers absolutely bangs, straight onto my playlist. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, is weird but cool at the same time. Again very solid album.
Tough. Sonically great album. Vibe-y, mellow, classic Radiohead space-y-ness, very chill. York’s vocals really work with this mature mellow rock. Love the bass/drum mix. Okay, guess I like the album.
Know this album well, love the bass line on Nude. Is it a 5 star? By Radiohead's high bar, I don't think it is. Videotape is a bummer of a closing song.
The best of this album IMO: - 15 Step - Bodysnatchers - House of Cards - Jigsaw Falling Into Place Ah, this album... Loved it as a teen. Still holds up today for sure. 3.7/5
great album. really consistent feel, mostly nostalgic. but super nice and chill to listen to. it feels almost sad, but not quite there. favorite song: probably reckoner
Heard already but absolutely great! 4/5
This isn't the most talked about Radiohead album, but it's a real good one. It's another step for them into the more psychedelic sound. Lots of haunting vocals and rhythmic guitar.
Not too bad, created a kinda bleak melancholic soundscape for me, which I enjoy but may not be for everyone
sassy and fun 3? 4
for it me it is strange, but i liked it
4.5
Sometimes a bit depressing but good style
Better than expected though still somewhat meandering and freeform. Second half better than first.
I liked most of the tracks that didn't have that built in 'tune out' thing where you keep missing them. It's like they're invisible. How do they do that?
Downloaded this for free as part of the great pay-what-you-want experiment back in the day, excited by one of the world's biggest bands choosing to go off grid. But at the time I didn't rate it much. Now Spotify makes it available for free too, but it doesn't *feel* free, it feels like part of the same old rotten recording industry system. And I enjoyed it a lot more this time. I guess you get what you think you paid for?
Great album
Amnesiacilla ja Hail to the Thiefillä. Vahva nelonen kuitenkin!
Great album! No misses. Just great songs.
more interesting than I remembered it, I guess it only has a few that stand out at first but it's nice
I'm going to give it 4. Doesn't have any edge. It's not passive, it is aggressive, but it doesn't bite.
Loved it.
Memories of the Dwight spot.
Enjoyed thoroughly
Pretty upbeat. 7/10
I loved Radiohead most during their harder era. This is a great album all the same. Great beats, I couldn’t stop moving my body while listening.
I'm not as big into Radiohead as my other musical inclinations would suggest, but this album has grown on me a ton since it's release. I enjoyed this thoroughly and will likely add it into my rotation
Another amazing album and another career defining moment for the band. Great track all around with Videotape being my favourite. Better than Kid A in my opinion but I still prefer OK Computer to it.
Vraiment bon. Radiohead c'est de la bombe. Mais ce n'est pas leur meilleur. Quand même excellent 4.65
the white man's favorite album of the 2000s -roling stone
Actually liked this more than I thought
Good album with a couple of absolute crackers.
Beklenen verim alinamadi
I prefer the older Radiohead, but it was fun to listen to where the band went.
7.5, i enjoyed it
Back when I collected these stats this was my all-time most listened to album. Needless to say I loved it. Listening to it now… I don’t know… something is missing. I know, hardly subjective. But this album can’t be subjective. It is all predicated on hitting that emotional spot, like optimistic depression (to me). And now it doesn’t hit it. It sounds hollow. I don’t know. I’ll listen again later, maybe my mood was off.
Pretty chill but sonically just an amazing sound
Can Radiohead actually make a below 4 star album? Impossible. 4.45/5
radio head. I hardly know her. 4.8
cabeça radio
Solid. Weird enough to be interesting. Nothing standout amazing but enjoyable as an album.
More experimental as they progress and so better and better. This is a great album.
Pretty good. Had listened to House of Cards before. There were a few more songs on there that are bops.
Self-reflective. Sound and lyrics fill me with melancholy. An album you can listen to over and over and never get tired while still being able to pick up on something new.
First album I am familiar with. Enjoyed it when it came out and still a big fan. Though is another album that the critics love and I appreciate but not an all-time favorite I have on constant spin.
Pretty good
This isn't my favorite Radiohead album, so I never really went back to give it a second try. Glad I had this opportunity to do so, since I've rediscovered a few tracks I've really enjoyed. Writing down Nude, Faust Arp and Videotape.
Never listened to this before and really enjoyed the mixture of instruments and the variety of tracks. Really well done and very good to listen to in all moods
it was super weird and different but that’s what i liked about it, and the last song i really enjoyed the sound
I enjoyed this one! More uptempo than I remembered but slow songs are good too. Had it on in the background while reading so didn’t pick any tracks out
...the one where a hugely popular experimental band finally free of their record deal releases their first independent album by letting fans pay what they want then leads it off with a song in 5/4 time... Big thumbs-up here. :) In Rainbows is probably not the easiest intro to Radiohead (probably the best way to try to ease into the band is to go chronologically (but skip their debut Pablo Honey)) but if you want an accessible-ish great start, go with "All I Need" which is as normal as it gets here, and is still a great song. But Radiohead is not a singles band, meaning it's impossible to "get" or (for me) truly enjoy the band by listening to one song - in many ways they harken back to earlier days by truly being an "album band" - you need to digest this in its entirety to get the full breadth and scope. A song like "House Of Cards" is gorgeous in its layered melodies but it alone doesn't touch upon the organized chaos that the band brings so well in another track like "Bodysnatchers." All in all though, one of my favourite collections from the band and nearly as good as it gets - unlike some of their bigger albums (looking at you OK Computer) this one doesn't peter off at the end and stays strong through the final song "Videotape." Like most of their albums, this one also truly gets better upon repeated listens. Also a perfectly-digestible 43 minutes long (just because CDs ushered in an era where you could jam 72 minutes into an album didn't mean you should...). 8/10 4 stars
Great Album. I think they have nailed what they have been experimenting with. Best track - Weird Fishes
I am generally not a Radiohead fan, but this album is quite good.
1st Radiohead album I’ve listened to. Pretty good 👍
Quasi chef d'oeuvre: Videotape Reckoner 15 step et surtout.. Bodysnatchers Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Great album
I never took to this on release originally and I think I’ve skipped an album which based on three listens yesterday is right up there in terms of Radiohead’s releases - wonderful stuff
Infravalorado
Top tracks: 15 Step, Jigsaw Falling into Place
Best album since OK Computer.
Good musically, not sold on his boring voice, cannot be considered in the same breath as some of the greats, overall good, especially considering his head is a radio, very sad 😢
I liked it a lot, very radiohead
7/10. Hard to judge well because it definitely sounded better when I didn't listen on my car speakers, but I didn't hear much that interested me. Giving it the 7 over the 6 on benefit of the doubt since it did sound nice.
Mood: Frito y triste.
wow this album flew by. I loved the first song 15 Step but that is because it's the song from Twilight that isn't on the soundtrack so that was a nice surprise. I really enjoyed this album, it played all the way through without me skipping anything so that is a plus. It felt very easy to listen to but I still liked some of the more creative beats in many of the songs. Radiohead is one of those bands that I had heard bits and pieces of but not the albums so I'm glad we are getting a few of them on this list. Great album cover too.
An interesting album with experimental sounds, fused with rock, electronic ambient sounds and somewhat moody and atmospheric, I enjoyed it.
Some cool stuff but somewhat low-key for my taste right now. I’ll optimistically give it an 8 because I’ll probably listen to it a few more times.
this was one of the first pay what you want albums. I loved it when it came out. It felt a little rawer than most Radiohead stuff. A little bit of hip-hop influence too. Not my favorite or the most important, but a solid album
It's A nice album to listen and to be relaxing.
Mellowish, not my thing but I vibed with it
I love the music jigsaw falling into place, dnt know why, the album is really calm and relaxed me
I am not normally a Radiohead fan. With the exception of Pablo Honey I have a hard time sitting through one of their songs, let alone a full album. I will say that thought I did sit through this whole album and I I liked it more than I normally do.
mostly good
Another great album from Radio and the Heads! Much brighter than the previous (I think this album is notoriously their most accessible and least depressing), lots of tracks on here that I enjoyed. At this point, when I see Radiohead pop up, I know I’m in for a smooth ride. We’ve had two in about a month, and I can’t complain. Favorite tracks: 15 Step, All I Need, Jigsaw Falling into Place, Reckoner. Album art: Another iconic picture, I see this one a lot. Really love the multicolored text, and I’ve barely even looked through to the explosion behind it, but this one is really fun to look at. 4/5
Very adventurous album, a bit challenging at times. Has two of my favorite Radiohead songs (All I Need and Reckoner). Very strong
Melon is right
First RH album 7/10 song I liked
Great album, very artsy. Disk 2 is where it really peaks. This album is an experience.
Awesomely refreshing.
love the slower songs more than the faster ones
Quite nice
good job Radiohead, good job
Sick band sick album, bodysnatchers easy favourite. Weird Fishies and Faust Arp also great
-Still trying to "get into" Radiohead -Lots of it feels like Yorke wandering around vocally -The highs (Weird Fishes, All I Need, Reckoner) are REALLY high but some tracks feel like filler
Quite mellow but was good for easy listening
4/5
The best part of the Twilight movie was the credits. Good choice when it came to the music.
Listened before
chill
I don't know how to feel about it. Not really in for it but it's still gud Will I listen to again: 50%
I have listened to early Radiohead. I liked the Bends and OK Computer very much. I have heard that later Radiohead is quite different. I am about to find out. It is an experimental album. It is not rock and roll at all. York’s vocals are buried. They often sound haunting. A lot of songs lack a melody or a beat. Songs are a mixed bag. Some are interesting; some not so interesting. Quite a departure from their previous work. They don’t quite pull it off. An average album. Three stars.
I just can't get into this album. I loved a lot of their earlier work, and I understand why this one was groundbreaking on a lot of levels, but it just doesn't do anything for me.
7/10
hmmm.... i think i feel similar about this as i did with the jeff buckley album a couple days ago? like its pretty good but im just not really feeling "sad white boy music" rn. altho in this case the band is also on some zionist bullshit lately which doesn't help, anyway my favourite track is "all i need" with its atmospheric sound design and gritty bass, although "nude" is pretty close. but i think "nude" just sticks in my mind cos iirc there was a remix contest for it around when this album came out and the 3/4 time signature led to a lot of incredibly awkward sounding entries that clumsily attempted to force it into a 4/4 house track. it was a pretty good trick to play, knowing how prevalent house is in any remix contest.... i can still respect that about radiohead, at least. won't stop me thinking thom yorke is a dickhead tho.
Overall Rating - 3.25/5 (6.50/10). Definitely not my usual style of music. It's not bad, it's just different from what I usually listen to.
Great overall album and vibe! Never listened to Radiohead before, but I definitely will start! Liked the vibe and it was very easy to listen to. 3/5
Best one so far, it’s a shame Jonny and thom wanna shag the IDF
Enjoyed this. Like most Radiohead albums they take a few listens to appreciate them.
Radiohead is a classic.
Certainly not a lack of creativity and musical prowess, but there's just an overall lack of energy for me.
Didn't care much for this one. I do like one of their other albums though
chill. mellow. vibes.
Started listening to this early in bed before getting up and promptly fell back to sleep! Thought I’d better give it another go while on my morning walk (which I just noticed I also did with Kid A). It’s has some a very laid-back moments – even for Radiohead - and has a dreamy feel to a lot of it so I can see why it afforded me a bit more kip! It seemed to have a more up-beat tone to it overall though. As up-beat as you can get for Radiohead I suppose at least. I liked it anyway and although I know I’ve heard it before I can’t remember much of it but think I will be listening to this one a few more times now. Preferred it to the more depressing Kid A and think it may even be a step up from OK Computer eventually for me.
Radiohead is a band I have something of a love/hate relationship with, mostly around Thom Yorke's vocals which I sometimes find really a bit annoying. This album's really not the strongest Radiohead album, but we still have Yorke's wailing vocals.
Only 3 stars because I am unable to listen with earbuds or read the lyrics bc I was busy these last couple days. Hopefully moving forward, I will be able to pay more attention, although my fave songs were probobly: Jigsaw falling into place and maybe bodysnatchers
Most of what I knew about Radiohead going into this list was that someone I disliked in highschool was obsessed with them so I veered away and never really tried it. I kind of like them though, but it varies track to track quite a bit. There is a vague annoying quality but I can see that possibly fading with repeated listens. It's weird I like it but don't desire to go back to it. Bodysnatchers was good. All I Need was cool. Reckoner was cool. Much like the last one, probably a great album for a certain mood. Beautiful moments throughout, slow builds
I don't know why I thought I really liked Radiohead before this list but every album is just bleh to me.
