Reviews (page 12 of 15)
Radiohead IN RAINBOW it not an LP to "rock out" to. No rock horns, Pay-What-You-Want model was a ballsy one off release effort. Found the LP enjoyable.
I am really only a fan of 90s Radiohead. And even that I am sort of sick of. This album went by with barely anything that stuck out to me.
I bought this direct from them when it was released, which was novel at the time. Back then, I wanted it to be more OK Computer or even a little Kid A, so I was disappointed at the time. Definitely appreciate and enjoy it more listening to it now. Still a handful of songs I would skip.
I liked it
Pretty good nothing crazy, felt like it was going to be better than it was but still solid
I have listened to radiohead before and they have some songs I really like. This album might just be a bit to experimental for me though. Amongst some really good songs there are some that I just want to skip.
Interesting. 3.4.
Not my favourite Radiohead album. But enjoyable
Ordentliche Rock-Musik 3/5
Not my cup of tea but interesting music nonetheless.
I like the music better than the vocals, which kind of sound like whiny emo. Jigsaw Falling Into Place is my favorite track.
An interesting sound, I vibed with it. It had a good driving beat and timing which I liked. Bodysnatchers captured the energy of this album well I think. I don't think I would need any of these songs, but they make good background music. I'll need to come back to this album though. 3/5 stars.
One of the better Radioheads I've listened to
Radioheads GAYEST album More like GAYDIOHEAD But of a drag tbh, didn’t hate it but nothing really bringing me back
There are six Radiohead albums in this book and I have gotten four of them. Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows and Kid A. I have given Amnesiac, Kid A and Hail to the Thief a "3" rating because it really feels like they aren't that good, but they are artsy, so these albums are considered good. The final 3 Radiohead albums are the ones I prefer the most. Finally, I'm getting there. I would like to give In Rainbows a 3.5 because I do like it more than I like the other three Radiohead albums I have heard. I can't do that, obviously, but there are two Radiohead albums I would revisit and this is not one of them. Yet, I do like several of the songs on here and it's a good album. The experimentation and artsy crap works better for me. I would say half of the album works for me. I can't wait for the other two Radiohead albums but for now it's going to be the same grade for this one like the other three.
Sometimes their sound portrays a pounding rock beat, and other times it transitions to slow dreamy flows. Their lyrics can be mesmerizing, screaming in your face, or matter of fact. There’s a little bit of everything in this album. ,
This was a lot more palatable to listen to than the last Radiohead album. Good stuff to have on when working. Maybe this group will grow on me.
I cried, loved All I Need and Jigsaw Falling into Place. I would say that this is a 3 stars album. Don't get me wrong it's pretty cool it's not just up my alley if I could give it 3 1/2 I would. XOXO Maggie
I still don’t get it. While I find the music interesting and okay, I don’t get all the hype. It’s a good album, but not one I would choose to listen to again. Occasionally I listen to Radiohead to see if I’ve grown into the music. It still hasn’t happened. Maybe someday.
None of the classics were on it :(
I get it why people love this so much, but it still isn't my cup of tea after 2 listening sessions of the album...
This album wasn’t too bad. I was kind of surprised that I didn’t hate it, although none of the songs were super memorable. It was spacey and ethereal sounding. But was it ethereal enough???? No. No it wasn’t. I wanted more. I wanted to be transported, but I was not. 3 stars
In my list of Radiohead albums, this one is a bit lower unfortunately. It doesn't mean that it's bad, but it's definitely not my favourite from them. Nevertheless, it still is an amazing record.
Enjoyed it. I think i may give Radiohead further attention.
I liked it, but a bit dreary. Fun percussion.
Jigsaw falling into place…Actually not gonna start with this one. Gonna give the album a shot. I think Radiohead in general are a little too much for me. Too much darkness into one place. This album is no exception. Their music is melancholic but there is no hope on their songs, no upside. Nothing to turn back to or rather to move on to. It is, plainly, sad. That is how they make it dark. I am not educated on their story, the history, it seems to me that if you are writing from the heart, you should not exist, Radiohead should not exist. There is no hope in their heart, no hope in their heads, in their music… Maybe this is the cliche in me speaking but the album screams imbalance. What I will say is that I do not cherish their path, I do not want to be them, even though their music is influencial… Exactly because their music has influenced me. If this was the plan. To educate others not to follow their path. A lot of people write music to share what they are feeling. The song Bodysnatchers comes to mind. It might be the most energetic song of the album, yet no positive energy comes of it. Just that of partying, being not young anymore and yet still not realising what that means. Not changing your ways. This is just my narrow point of view though. You get through another dark song and here comes Weird Fishes and your entire view changes. The melody, what a plain melody, yet powerful enough to give you the hope that you did not get from any other song, just the melody. But as you again go through the song, it slightly gets sucked out of you. They possess the power to do that, it is their superpower. You move onto new lows. The next to songs try to show you new kinds of low. The different flavours of rock bottom. I think that is it. Yet the album is not called that, it is called “In Rainbows”. I cannot put my mind onto that. Why would a rainbow have any association with the rock bottom that you hit listening to this album. Maybe this is the expectation put on to them by the outside world. The luxurious and envious life of a rockstar. It is full of colorful rainbows. It must be beautiful. Maybe I am just entirely wrong. After all it has happened before. Maybe their happiness relies on getting out all the darkness. Maybe this is how rainbows are produced. By letting go of all the dark there is nothing but light left inside you. And somehow we get back to Jigsaw. The jigsaw has fallen. It has created a mess. It has broken everything. Not even hope is the same after its work is done. Nothing is the same. What remains cannot be. Cannot exist. It is contemplaiting the remnants, are they worth saving…Better yet, why were they saved. Why were they the only things that survived. That is it for me. I cannot listen to another minute of this album. I am just intrigued by the mosters in the closet. What is their story…
alter, rock, 2007 -> 3
On listening to this album I recall one of the most shattering moments of my life. I was working away having listened to some album or another. I’d never really tried the Spotify album radio that comes on following whatever you’re listening to finish, but I was receiving quite a pleasant mix. Suddenly a song played that grabbed my attention - fairly rare for something new shuffled in. I stopped my work and picked up my phone. My face blanched, sweat beaded on my forehead. My office chair rolled back and I slumped to the floor. My colleagues rushed to my aid, thinking I’d had some sort of hypertension related health episode. A psychic arrow had rent my hater credibility asunder… The song I had inadvertently enjoyed…. It was Jigsaw Falling into Place by Radiohead.
Nude and jigsaw are fire Overall good album, but not one I’d find myself coming back to besides listening to a couple songs on the album here and there. When I’m doing other things and listening it all blends together for me and just sounds like a bunch of background noise
Ok
Good but not great
3.5
Enjoyed the music but Thom Yorke's voice is really annoying.
I am really disappointed that I didn't love this album because it's the first full Radiohead album that I'd ever listened to and my expectations were high. Generally the sound and harmonies seemed ok - not bad but not super exciting. Maybe I miss some context or something, idk. I loved Jigsaw Falling Into Place and that's it.
not their best but listenable
Radiohead has such a unique sound. Unfortunately for me - some of those sounds seem so damn whiny and moody.
I've always respected Radiohead more than I liked them. The intricate musicality, the ambition, I could tell it was exceptional in them more than most bands. But I could never grasp it all at once to fully appreciate it. This listen was slightly different as I finally started to *like* some songs in a way I never did before. I wanted to relisten to this album right after finishing it; something I've never done with a Radiohead album before. Am I growing?
i'd like the ominous moaning with less funky beats please
better than expected. like a kruder and dorfmiester
This one was ok, it was chill and dreamy to listen to. But it was also a bit too dreamy and almost psychedelic and I didn't super enjoy that as much. Standouts Jigsaw Falling Into Place 3/5
Some decent songs, it's just really boring!
I have always found Radiohead boring and depressing. I appreciate they have a massive following but this is music you either get or you don't and I'm afraid I don't. Very talented band though!
#68 Chill.
Sure, this music is alright, but if I'm going to listen to whining it better not be introspective.
3.5 for me but will round down.
My favorite Radiohead album on this list so far, with 15 Step being a standout. However, it still can’t overcome the fact that there’s not many hummable melodies.
Knew it wouldn't be long before I encountered my unofficial official favourite band of all time on here (I'm in a permanent love affair with Modest Mouse - it's complicated). Gotta be honest, I've never really been much of an In Rainbows guy. It's a damn good album, but I find it to be more than a little sterile coming off the back of HTTT and all massively conceptual albums that precede it. There are definitely some good cuts on here, though. I can't deny that.
No. 278/1001 15 Steps 3/5 Bodysnatchers 2/5 Nude 3/5 Weird Fishes 4/5 All I Need 4/5 Faust Arp 3/5 Reckoner 3/5 House of Cards 4/5 Jigsaw Falling Into Place 4/5 Videotape 3/5 Average: 3,3 Still not really „getting“ Radiohead as much as other people. Bit this was quiet enjoyable.
I had fallen off the Radiohead train by the time this came out and maybe I’m spoiled by nostalgia or just in less emotional turmoil, but this was kind of boring. Beautiful, but boring.
I can think of 3 better radiohead albums without much effort
A couple solid songs from the 7th studio album, but a couple forgettable pieces. I feel the beginning of the album starts very slow then builds to a latter half that is quite strong.
ok
It's a pretty boring, easy-listening album. 3/5. Bland but easy to listen to so...yep. as average as average gets to me.
I've heard diametrically opinions on this one. For some, In Rainbows is the best thing since slice bread, while for others it is a lesser album for a majestic band. I find it somewhere in the middle, I really enjoyed some parts, but for me it is nowhere near a masterpiece as Kid A or OK Computer. I would really like to rate it with three and a half stars though.
Meh to be honest i see why its a good album but i didnt personally enjoy listening to it
One of their better albums, yet I still found myself yearning for some OK Computer. Maybe I just can't let go...
Not my jam, but definitely a vibe
Not my favourite Radiohead album, but definitely a good one! It's interesting that it sounds a bit more raw than usual, like if it was their first album, rather than one of the more recent ones. Also gives me quite a bit of Muse vibes (although the influence certainly is in the other direction, haha)
Radiohead is a band that, on paper, is the perfect band for me but in actuality, I've never been able to get into them. Mostly because I'm really not a fan of Thom Yorke's vocals. "In Rainbows" was surprisingly listenable. At times, Thom Yorke sounded a bit like Bono and at other times he sounded a bit like Jeff Buckley. Both were vast improvements over what he usually sounds like. There was much less sad-sack going on than usual, too. I'll give it 3 stars. i didn't enjoy it enough to recommend to non-fans, but i was surprised how much i did enjoy it.
Great bass
Better than OK COMPUTER and HAIL TO THE THIEF and worse than KID A. The only 2 tracks I enjoyed were "All I Need" and "Reckoner". As an album, I personally don't think it works. I'm also convinced that Radiohead is way over represented on this list due to recency bias. Still find his voice annoying as hell.
I never got the hype for this album.
I missed this album. In fact, this album made me stop being a radiohead listener, because the whole "pay what you want" thing was something I wanted to support but I was a broke college student, so I never did. Then I fell out of the cycle. Anyway, now that I'm not a radiohead fan, this is a pretty forgettable album.
It was okay
Grungey but good rock
Not really my cup of tea but okay
Not a Radiohead fan, but this was not bad. Kept a couple as favorites.
I know I'm supposed to like Radiohead...I've tried to like Radiohead...I can't get into Radiohead. Drones. No oopmh. I guess okay background while working...
This recording was OK. I can see to a point how Radiohead has become legendary too many folks. Still, to me, it is very moody and didn't resonate with me when it came time to give it a listen. Just a 3...
I enjoyed this one, but no songs really popped out at me.
I've never been a Radiohead fan. The whole album makes me feel anxious
Lyssnat fler gånger. Men tycker inte det sticker iväg, puttrar på lite lagom. Trist att ha fastnat i 3-fällan. Men det är helt ok, som många album i rad nu.
Meerdere keren gedraaid, niks maakt echt indruk.
Het valt me dus best mee. Maar geloof ook weer niet dat ik dit nog eens op zal zetten.
My 5th Radiohead album along this journey. Not as memorable as The Bends or Kid A. Certainly listenable but no standout tracks for me.
No bad.
Not my usual thing, but I enjoyed even though I did get a little sad - 3/5 15 step slays so so hard, I love it so much, that track is 5/5 Reviewed 14.09.2024
This album is really well mastered. Sounds great through my headphones. Favorite: 15 Step
wasn't the best, not my favorite. Wasn't bad but...
Enjoy the more mellow tracks, like track three “Nude”
I appreciate that Radiohead is different and pushes boundaries. And I like this. But I don't love it. Good, but not great. 7 out of 10, rounding down to 3. I love "House of Cards" though.
Radiohead always has me kind of bouncing from “this is boring” to “this is great”, and this was no different.
Radiohead is difficult to review. Some of their music is otherworldly and some of it down and dirty rock. This album is stuck in between. The whiny high pitched 90’s baby talk vocals are horrendous no matter who is singing, that alone keeps me from being a fan. The band is incredible, no denying it, but there’s so much whine singing.
3.5
Meh
Decent, but didn't draw me in as much as some of their others
First two songs are quite good then it turns into the same mildly boring song over and over.
I liked this more than the last Radiohead album, but still a bit gloomy overall. Sad music for sad people I feel
Here I'm Thom Yorke: "Wot if I was a computer mate, would I have emotions"
Was pretty underwhelmed with this, my 2nd, Radiohead album. 3/5
Not sure what it is about their tone, but it just feels flat. They have all the pieces that I enjoy and respect, but it feels as if they purposefully never let themselves go all out with feeling.
So, I like Radiohead. But this isn't their best work. The album art is amazing though so that makes up for... some of it?
Muzikaal echt prima.
thom yorke’s usual signature warbling vocals layered upon the ethereal sound of his band. basically what you would expect from this band, although a few of the songs had an industrial sound to them. good album.
I. Might rate it higher than 3. 31/2 would be more like it.
Far from my favorite Radiohead album. Not sure why this one made the list.
This is the second Radiohead album given here. I had never listened to them before. I really like them overall. Pleasantly surprised! 3.5
Average Radiohead album
Good band, but Thom Yorke's whinny voice sometimes can get the better of you. House of Cards is a keeper.
This isn’t bad but there’s so little here that resembles a tune Quite forgettable
Radiohead's like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get.
A very solid album, one of Radiohead's best
3 stars
I liked this one better than Kid-A I just don't think Radiohead is for me. I was just generally disinterested by the droning on and on some of the songs had :(
i'm pretty big on radiohead but this was only ok for me.
3 stars
This is probably a pretty rad album but I’m just so sick of Radiohead on this list. I suppose I would say this is the third best one I’ve heard, and the absolute cut-off for the last album that MAYBE should be on the list (but they could have got away with just two… or one.)
I'd lost interest in Radiohead long before this came out. Turns out that it's not bad and just more of the same sounding songs. There is no particular stand out track on it. Which surprised me, but all are just good enough. Not sure if I'll ever bother with it again, unless I need some melancholy background music, but I have much better go to albums than this.
Et dejligt album, men jeg er mere til OK Computer.
Ma če sem čisto iskren mi to njihovo jodlanje ne sede najbolj.
No nostalgia for this album.
Radiohead’s discography started to fall apart for me around “Hail to the Thief”, which had some good songs but not all of them were winners, or even that interesting. It took me a long time and many listens of “Kid A” and “Amnesiac” to really appreciate them both but I I got there and they were worth the multiple listens. I didn’t do that to try and understand the albums, I did that because they were genuinely good and improved listen over listen. Unfortunately, this album doesn’t feel that way. There are two or maybe three different styles of songs on this album. The fast tempo with experimental instruments, the Thom Yorke odd ballad, and “Videotape”, which is the best track in my opinion. Radiohead has way more range than this album lets on, and it’s intimately a disappointment. The songs are all listenable and even pretty good in some cases but as whole this album is a let down to me. I expect so much more. It’s really not up to the standards set by literally every album before it.
Steady
Great music accompanied by some of the most dreadful lyrics, painfully moaned, I have ever heard
Lots of noises, kinda overwhelming Nude-is this what cognitive dissonance sounds like? These dudes love instrumentals, I can tell I’m floating in the fish song This is like mitzki for emo dads So dramatic and for what (I get it) I love violin in songs It’s kinda jazzy
Not really for me.
Ugh I love Radiohead’s Kid A, Ok Computer and The Bends, but I’ve never really gotten into this album. Not sure how much I like it either.
Warm & Fuzzy
Nice album to play in the background
Only a few good songs on this one. Older Radiohead is better imo
jigsaw rips, the rest made no impression
Not my favoriteRadiohead album. But I like them for doing it.
Nice
I expected more from Radiohead than Sleepy Pop.
Radiohead just doesn't do it for me. The music is good but I think I just don't love the lead singer's voice. Maybe I'll like their other albums more.
Much like Jazz as a genre, I don't think I'm cool and/or sophisticated enough to get Radiohead. I like a couple of their songs from other albums and they're clearly talented. Maybe some day I'll get it and join the ranks of. . . Radioheaders?
15 Step 3.5 Bodysnatchers 3.1 Nude 3 Weird Fishes/Arpeggi 2.8 All I Need 3 Faust Arp 2.7 Reckoner 3.6 House of Cards 3.5 Jigsaw Falling into Place 3.4 Videotape 3 Score: 3.16
2,5
Spent a few days here to make my mind up, although it's one I owned when it came out. There are some tracks I really enjoy here but there's also just too much arty, directionless later-Radiohead noodling under the whiny, mumbling version of Thom Yorke. I remember now why I lost interest in Radiohead after OK Computer. The good moments are too deeply buried in art noise.
Oh I was mistaken and there was another Radiohead album. Well my view hasn't changed. They are very good at writing the same song 10 times in a row. Did they really need 5 albums on this list? Absolutely not. 2 would be sufficient to get the gist.
It’s Radiohead so it’s great.
Not as engaging as other Radiohead albums for me. Best track Jigsaw Falling Into Place 3/5
Art rock to the max. This was a chill listen, and I would play it in the background in certain settings. I liked some of the elements and experimentation. I listened to it twice to give it a fair shake. Outside of the mainstream hits, I’m just not a huge Radiohead fan.
Nice lil album. Grateful for bands like radio head putting out different music when so much sounds the same. Liked this album but just needed something more for me to get to 4.
Seemed fine to me
In Rainbows was the first Radiohead album I'd ever heard. I listened to it sometime back in 17' when my buddy Cody showed me a YouTube video of Videotape performed live. He explained to me about how Thom is playing on the offbeat and in the particular video Thom kind of snaps at the audience for clapping and throwing him off. I think he said "earworm". After that I decided it was time for my Radiohead phase which quickly gave way to my Weezer phase. This is probably my favorite Radiohead album that I've heard. It's fairly concise, pretty catchy and not too much. I had this on vinyl at one time but sold it. I've been meaning to pick it back up. 3.5
It’s Radiohead
Didn't love this at first, but it grew on me as I listened. Not my favorite Radiohead, but even with that said, it's pretty good. My favorite songs were "Faust Arp," "Reckoner," and "Videotape." Wish I could give this a 3.5, but I'm rounding down.
Faudrait que jle réécoute.
Radiohead is hit or miss for me. Sometimes they strike me as brilliant and sometimes much less so. I had not listened to this record before today. There are elements that I enjoyed but as a whole it was just okay.
I liked some moments of this but it just didn't grab me alas.
Hmm - there are better albums from Radiohead
I haven't really checked out Radiohead before and this was pretty enjoyable the second half. Faust Arp and Reckoner are pretty songs. Jigsaw Falling into Place is a cool song too. A couple of their earlier albums are supposed to be their best so perhaps I'll give those a go.
I was already pretty familiar with this album from an old ex, but i havent heard it in years. Listened to it again front to back and there's a few things i like more now than i did then, but mostly how i felt about it stands. Its more interesting than moving, though with a few very tracks that ill be happily re-adding to my rotation. In the end thats a win
I was previously familiar with OK Computer and may have listened to this album once before, but it's quite different. Radiohead is known for reinventing themselves. There's some definite electronic influence present here. It's fine, but honestly I could take it or leave it. I did not have the emotional response with this one that I feel with OK Computer. Because of how much I like that album, I'd give this one more listens to see if it clicks, but it has not done so yet.
Chill and eerie. I enjoyed it.
Radiohead's ok. Sometimes a bit too ethereal and hypnotic for me. Not real big on the slower songs but I liked Bodysnatchers and Jigsaw Puzzle Falling Into Place.
Not my favorite Radiohead album. Always some interesting songs but a bit too trippy for me.
The first album I got to listen to on here was by Radiohead just two months ago. I can't remember a single track from that album, just like I can't remember a single track from this album less than 24 hours after listening to it.
If we call off the wedding, it’s because I am only giving this 3 stars and Joe can’t marry someone who has neutral feelings about his third favorite Radiohead album. This definitely sounds like Radiohead! But the songs all sounded pretty similar to me and none of them particularly grabbed me.
My first listen was not as favorable as my reactions to the other two Radiohead albums I’ve already had on the list. I listened again and then I listened again while driving. Just like other albums, this one finds its place in the circumstance. I was distracted while I listened to it when working; I was relaxed while driving through the country to a job site. Each Radiohead album is unique (yeah, obviously all albums are, else copyright becomes an issue); however, there is certainly a familiarity to their work. I don’t really listen to them as songs, but more as musical interludes. They don’t flow like traditional music. Verse, verse, chorus, verse, bridge, chorus, outro. Nope. Lots of “play as long as it feels good” phrasing. Instrumentation is often layered “noises”. Vocals are sporadic, but placed where they belong. It’s almost like chaos that randomly collides to make music. That, to me, in a nutshell, is Radiohead.
Another Radiohead album. This is probably the weakest one we had on this list, and if 'OK Computer' also shows up (which I assume it will), it will probably remain so. I really like 'Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi', but otherwise there are not many songs that sticks with me. Holds a pretty high lowest bar, but this definitely belongs in the middle for me.
The first couple tracks feel overly cluttered and the singing is just silly. Nude was better but not overly inspiring. I found myself enjoying all I need, faust arp and house of especially house of cards a bit more but they weren’t revolutionary. As most other people, jigsaw falling into place was the highlight for me. Ultimately, it did get better as the album went ok but it was too little too late honestly.
I enjoy some Radiohead, but I can’t always listen to an entire album.
Unique, not bad, not something I would seek out again.
Prefer their earlier albums, but not bad.
Pretty good
Quite liked it. Think it needs more listens to score higher though, had kind of forgotten all the songs by this morning. Will try check out more Radiohead.
All the other Radiohead I’ve heard I really liked but this didn’t do a lot for me. I knew Jigsaw Falling into Place because Brad Mehldau has done a mint cover of it which I preferred.
I enjoyed the listen. Reckoner Is an amazing song and will go on my permanent playlist.
Better than Kid A
So.. no Radiohead?
I just don't get Radiohead. I know many people who flat-out love the band, but they are kind of the rice cakes of rock for me. Musically, I find it quite impressive, but I think it's the nearly flavorless vocal melodies that turn me off.
There's parts of Radiohead I like and parts where I just feel like I don't get it.
Meh. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. Enjoyed it most when I was walking through the woods with my dog. It fit that atmosphere. Was just waiting for it to be over though, by the end of the album. Some of the instrumentals were quite beautiful—vocals a bit whiny and slurry. Wouldn’t convince me to listen to more.
3.5 one of these days I’m gonna get Radiohead
Probably a 3.5. Fine album and all, but definitely not my jam.
This would have been an absolute four for me even more so than the last album, but the last song of the album has this weird drum beat at the end of it and it pissed me off. 3/5
Me like slinky guitar sounds.
Not my cup of tea, but interesting. Slow song are to sweet for me, but I liked some of the quicker ones.
I like the Radio Head sound instrumentally, but I have never liked that, wispy, whiney vocalist and this album doesn't do anything to change that.
Another Radiohead album, another middle of the road review by me. It was ok, a couple of tracks were really good, especially '15 Steps'. Maybe it's me, but I can't get too excited by Radiohead and ntierh can I get too despondent.
I’m not the biggest Radiohead fan but I’d give this another listen.
There were some great songs ("Weird Fishes", which is my favorite Radiohead song) and some songs that sound like they exist only to be unique.
i enjoyed this more than expected, 3.5
Very meh.
One of my least favorite Radiohead albums. Still like plenty of songs I like… but way down there on my list of RH albums. So I almost never pick it as a listen.
Honestly, not one of my favorite Radioheads. But even bad Radiohead is still three.
Radiohead really stands out for the distinctive vocals. Such a defining and unique sound. Only negative to this album is there aren't any hits or upbeat tracks.
Yea. I like weird fishes
Too high pitch voice, but has good songs
It ends way better than it starts only the big songs are the ones that will stick with me and Videotape is a great end to an album. I just don't get it I will keep revisiting over the next few weeks to see if I get the hype but my best friend said this is one of the records that has influenced him the most and I just do not get it. I like half the songs on here and the others are just whiny Tom Yorke man speak up please. I understand this is an iconic record but I just find it so hit or miss and the genre-bending does not do nearly enough. Weird fish all i need Jigsaw Video tape Reckoner those were the highlights. Again I want to give it more chances but for now it is just okay upon like 2 listens
It was as definitely Radiohead. Don’t love them but they have a distinct sound and play well.
Have never heard this album in it's entirety. I've known about Weird Fishes/Arpeggi for a handful of years and that was my favorite of the album. Not bad overall, not sure how often I'll go back and listen to this one.
Didn’t entirely finish the album, it’s overall okay. Radiohead never stuck with me much, the vocals never hit as hard as people say. On the other hand I get it, it’s got some beautiful instrumentals
Radiohead. 3
Here we have a curious case. I have been around since the beginning when Radiohead was topping the alternative pop charts with "fake plastic trees" and the like. I followed them throught the "groundbreaking" Kid A album, and now for something completely different here. Now for the difficult part: if you are a Radiohead fan all of this progression is amazing and innovative and ... cool! But, if you do not know Radiohead, this album, (just like Kid A actually) will lose some audience via its unusual quality. For example what genre is it really? Or the fact that Radiohead is very much still Radiohead on this album but only if you "know" the band. I think this album will be very polarizing in ratings.
naja, bestenfalls hintergrundmusik.
As far as Radiohead goes, this one just doesn't do it for me. I appreciate their creativity and abstract nature. There's just very little here that interests me. Jigsaw Falling Into Place is a pretty fantastic palate cleanser though. Favorite tracks: Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
My only exposure to Radiohead (aside from the odd passing single) has only ever been through this list, with having OK Computer generate previously for me. So it's interesting listening to such highly-praised projects by a heralded band for the first time While I didn't find this as great as as OK Computer, I still really enjoyed my time with this and will definitely be returning to a heavy majority of tracks from this
In Rainbows. I've never been much of a Radiohead fan, their stuff just doesn't do it for me, although I think this gets a bit closer than their widely-agreed best works. That's not to say I really liked it; Bodysnatchers and Weird Fishes/Arpeggi are my favourite tracks, the rest are generally okay, interesting enough without moving me, House of Cards isn't any good though, nor is Videotape, and that makes for a disappointing end to the whole album. I dunno, their stuff never goes where I want it to go, and while I know the whole comparison between them and Muse was always ill-founded in the first place, Muse give me what I want from a falsetto-type vocal and some of the experimental touches on top of an alt rock foundation. Probably gets a 3 because it made me engage and there were all of those hints of stuff I want to like but nothing that really gets me to do so; it wasn't bad, objectionable or completely out of my tastes, so gets a middle of the road score.
Don't get it. I listened to this when it came out, didn't get it then and don't get it now. It's not that it's a bad album, it's just not one that captures me in the same way that it does a lot of people. And it doesn't have anything that stands out in the way that OK Computer does; Weird Fishes and Jigsaw Falling Into Place get closer than the rest of the album, but neither will stay with me in the way Paranoid Android or Karma Police do. 3/5.
Pas mal, s'écoute bien. Bonnes mélodies.
I may need to give this another listen, I started getting into it the second time around, but didn’t get too far. After one listen, it wasn’t my thing.
mid
I quite enjoyed this one. Pretty calm and relaxing album
Erzeugt eine tolle Klanglandschaft, die zum Hören einlädt, auch wenn es aus meiner Sicht kein wirklich rockiges Album darstellt.
Not their best work….
Vulnerable sounding, loose production in a way as I’m not super tight or crispy, it felt like it wasn’t trying to impress anyone and was just what the artist wanted to say, despite it not being so much for me
Cool
Not even close to Radiohead's best album. This album feels like Radiohead got "cool" and said "no, we hate that, let's try and be weird again". Radiohead was already at the forefront of "weird, quirky" music and it is incredible. This album truly fell flat for me in comparison to their previous albums.
Noget meget funky, men er stadig bare ikke fan af Rafiohead. Forstår ikke apellen
Overall a good quality but totally forgettable
I am surprised by how not-too-depressed (as I thought) Radiohead would be. I don't think that I have listened to any other of their songs, apart from Creep, but this wasn't too bad. A couple of the songs were a bit too much but the rest were decent.
the album's themes explore the complexities of love, existentialism, and societal reflections, and is a testament to Radiohead's continued evolution as artists, maintaining their reputation as a band with a willingness to experiment with sound. it’s not a bad album, just not my style. i’ll rate it a 5/10. full rating on ig: @musicwithnessa
Good album and nice production. Not quite my speed. Feels very british. Gives me the same vibes as British police dramas
Liked the vibe and instrumentation although repetitive at times but wasn't a fan of the singing mumbling voice as I couldn't even understand the words sometimes.
Quite liked this which surprised me, will definitely listen to this again and a bit more Radiohead in the future.
3/5takie do lecenia w tle. nie jestem fanem smętów
I’ve enjoyed listening to this album. The diversity of styles and musical elements kept it interesting throughout the album. I would definitely give it another listen if the opportunity arose, but I likely wouldn’t seek it out
Clicky with thom whines. That may be too harsh some tinteresting parts
Not at all what I thought it would sound like. Ok but not really my thing.
Always depressing, but this time with more electronic sounds!
Not the biggest fan.
Good stuff!
2.5 rounded up. "Weird fishes/Arpeggi" and "House of Cards" are the stand out tracks. This is easy listening Radiohead.
not my usual genre, but i did like it. i liked the vibes and it wasn’t too angsty which i usually associate with these type of bands, so i liked that. a bit too repetitive and a few too many guitar solos, but i would listen again.
While I never listen to this genre, low key had a good time listening. Fs the most experimental album I’ve ever listened to. Best song(s): House of Cards, 15 step Worst song(s): All I need
Pretty good alt rock album. It was an easy listen for someone who's not a big Radiohead fan. I like alt rock, so there's that. Nothing profound to say about it other than it was good.
Kind of a mellow offering. Was pleasant.
Musically I liked this. I wish I could understand even 20% of what Thom Yorke sings.
Good album, went by fast. Not sure where this album comes in the discography but ok computer is better.
Still not OK Computer.
Album 252 of 1001 Radiohead - In Rainbows Rating : 3.5 / 5 Wasn't blown away but didn't mind listening. Kind of 'meh'. Haven't listened to a lot of Radiohead so don't know how it compares to their others. I'll find out, at some point.
Radiohead is one of those bands I always feel like I’m supposed to like more than I do. I hadn’t heard this one before and it was pleasant background music if not attention grabbing.
Too indulgent and dramatic. Not my favorite Radiohead album for sure.
I need to re listen to it
Liked it but this record doesn’t bring anything too surprising nor interesting to the Radiohead prisma.
I generally like Radiohead, but some of his albums don't engage me as much as others. This is one of the less engaging ones. Only one song stood out to me as memorable.
Ok
I harbored some naive dreams about the internet freeing us from the stranglehold of the Content Monopolies (don't laugh kids) and was very excited by the unconventional release of this. I'm not sure it belongs on the list of the absolutely essential Radiohead. Listening to it for the first time in a long while, I found it held up, but also held the same flaw I originally perceived: the first half is very strong but it lags considerably on the back half.
Played, but kind if got lost in the background. One to give your full attention to maybe.
Each track has something cool happening musically that is made worse by Thom Yorke screeching over it. His voice actively detracts from everything. It fit well with their early material but as the band branched out in different directions his voice couldn't keep up.
I've heard a lot of hype behind this album, so I think the fact that it didn't click with me is a pretty good indicator that Radiohead just isn't my bag. Which is a shame because there's a good amount of interesting instrumentation here. But the vocals are just something I can't get behind, and as a side-effect the lyrics often slip by as well. Not to say that there's I think is bad here, just nothing mind-blowing to me. Highlight: Jigsaw Falling Into Place Lowlight: Bodysnatchers Surprise Hit: Faust Arp
I feel like this is an artist I should like a lot but they aren’t clicking with me like that. I think it’s fine, but I don’t really love anything I’ve heard from them so far.
Not an album that I would listen on a daily basis. Overall the album itself, at the moment for me is a 6.5/10. I should give another listen.
downloaded 4,8,9,10. was familiar with jigsaw falling into place before but most of the album is slow for me in a way i wish i could appreciate more - but i cant. rock on radiohead tho...
Pretty chill
iha ok, vähä ehk liia tunteellinen mun makuuni
It got weird
I guess we're just getting my worst Radiohead take out of the way now. Don't particularly love the second half of this album, but there definitely are some tracks I adore on here.
bodysnatchers weird fishes reckoner jigsaw falling into place
It was the first time I listened to Iin Rainbows and I feel I should listen to this album more to rate it, because it takes more time to get into Radiohead's music. It is more chill and perhaps emotional than other albums I listened to by this band, but I preferred their other albums so far (The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A) except one (Hail To The Thief). Now I'm giving it a 3.5 out of 5.
3.5 Syns Radiohead er litt overvurdert jeg:0
Pretty good
не успела много послушать, но в целом тоскливовато. возможно потому что уирд фишез слишком много раз слышала (кавер)
Radiogłowa zawsze wjeżdża
Not my favorite Radiohead album
so good and so much originality and emotion. Excellent album for Radiohead.
15 steps is good but overall the album is too abstract to my liking
Its not bad, just not my vibe at the moment. Shoutout to Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi, a classic Made me want to listen to Jaydiohead Reckoner has a sick beat, reminds me of Ratatat
Relaxing, my favourite track - nude Wouldn't normally listen to this normally but enjoyed the album
Ok but not terribly memorable. I liked “All I Need”.
Enjoyed
Started off strong and somewhat fell off near the end. Listened to twice on a bike ride and it wasn’t quite what I needed tempo-wise, but still a pretty solid album.
My experience with Radiohead (Pablo Honey, A Moon Shaped Pool, random top-hits) is usually described as this: a slow burn. And, that continues with this album. I don't hear anything specifically that I don't like, I like all of the ingredients, it's excellent as excellent as down-tempo, drone music, but my brain tells me it's worth more. It's like learning a foreign language—I need to immerse myself in it, and give it more time and it'll start making sense eventually. All that being said, I'm not sure why this particular album is highlighted versus others from them. Favorite tracks: Weird Fishes / Arpeggi, All I Need, Reckoner, House of Cards.
I think this is the only Radiohead album that I would choose to listen to in its entirety. I haven't listened to a ton of their albums, but I like this better than "OK Computer." That being said...it's fine. It's got some good tracks, like 15 Step and All I Need. I think this was the "pay whatever you want for it" album, which was a cool idea in the age of music sharing/piracy.
While there are moments of sheer atmospheric beauty I felt unfulfilled by the end. This is a strike against it. A while back I learned that I need to consider Yorke's vocals as an additional instrument rather than a vocalist and that helps my ability to enjoy the band. That said I bet I would like instrumental tracks a tad more.
OK for Radiohead.
I've tried and failed to get into late period Radiohead. I love the mid-90s stuff but this is all to avant-garde for my ears. That said, I enjoyed this and there were some beautiful moments. Another listen required.
Best Songs: 15 steps, All I Need, Reckoner Nude has amazing vocals (reminds me of Creep)
Many would put Radiohead’s earlier work near the top of the alternative genre, but apparently by 2007 they had ditched novelty for music that could today be created relatively easily by AI. Some of their songs are hits (“Creep” and “Karma Police” come to mind first), but this album generally functions better as background music, especially “Weird Fishes,” “All I Need,” and “House Of Cards.” The main exception is “Jigsaw Falling Into Place,” whose influence can be heard across the Glass Animals’ discography. In Rainbows might just be a forgettable mid-2000s fever dream. I don’t dislike it, and it’s a pleasant album to work to, but the fact that I don’t have many concrete takeaways (positive or negative) means it can’t be anything other than a three.
Damn, I tried really hard to like this, but I guess it's just not for me, it doesn't tell me much unfortunately
Πολύ καλά κάποια κομμάτια
Gøy med sang om Faust og sånt
It might be well crafted, but it's a bit miserable
3.5... Yeah I know
3/5. While I had always been a big fan of the song 15 Step, I’m glad I finally gave this full album a listen. While I also enjoyed Bodysnatchers, I thought the rest of the album was lackluster.
classic joie de vivre
minus 1 star because radiohead fans can smd
Eh. I guess I don't get Radiohead. I probably would have loved them 20 years ago. Wait, when did this come out? Anyway, I don't hate them. But whatever.
Gøy med sang om Faust og sånt
I wasn't a huge fan of the last two Radiohead albums, but this one is markedly different. I much prefer this style to their previous one. The slow songs are still not appealing to me, but I feel like they are better in this album than in previous ones. This could have been a low 4 if there weren't so many slow songs. A strong to decent 3/5
The last Radiohead album I listened to was Pablo Honey years ago. I wasn't particularly blown away by it, and the same can be said about "In Rainbows". However, I did like the album even if the songs seemed to blur together after the first couple of songs. Favorite Song: Not really sure without looking it up. It all sort of blended. Recommend: I guess.
It's probably one of my least favorite Radiohead album but I had fun re-listening to it. I'm more of a kid a /amnesiac kind of guy. Favorite tracks were bodysnatchers, weird fishes/arpeggi, reckoner. 7/10
I'm a decent Radiohead fan, and In Rainbows ranks just under Amnesiac for me. It's a great album but not one I turn to all that often.
Jigsaw Falling Into Place was pretty much the only decent track after a 2nd listen
Is it just me or do none of these songs have choruses?
It was okay. Not my favourite Radiohead album, for sure.
Kind of wish I got one of the earlier Radiohead albums that are on the list. This was a good listen but I still feel like no am missing something with Radiohead. Critics act like they are they greatest band that has ever existed and I’m just not there.
Just masterful, with several songs that rank among their best – “Weird Fishes” and “All I Need” and “Reckoner." Alternately intense and lovely, but also edgy and disorienting.
Still not a Radiohead guy, and I honestly can’t tell if this one is so acclaimed because of its release history or if people really love it. It’s not offensive or anything, just not my thing. C
Thoughtful, but a bit self-serious.
It was very cool as Radiohead often is. Liked it.
It was pretty good
Chill, athmospheric. Very much a product of it's time tho, the singer sounds like any other singer in the 00s. After I had finished the album spotify kept playing similar songs and I didn't notice this albums ending and the similar songs starting.
Inoffensive but bland
It is good! Not too tied to it, but didn’t dislike it at all and enjoyed listening.
I think I like Thom Yorke's voice. I like the dark and desperate but playful aesthetic of the album. The songs sound nice, even if most of them are not on an earworm-level for me. + Weird Fishes/Arpeggio + Reckoner
OK. Radiohead aren't really my thing and this album didn't substantially change that view.
Toujours leur son propre, avec la voix de Thom York, c’est très intemporel. Les ambiances litaniques me font sentir mélancolique
Yeah I don't know about this. I am not well versed in Radiohead, and this is making no impression me. Seems like people love it though.
Radiohead has never been my jam. It’s good Radiohead, but it’s still not my jam.
I remember this, the apparent applause/derision of launching a pay what you want download. Very Radiohead. Didn't take off, but I suppose we mostly pay peanuts for downloads these days As for the music, it's Radiohead, without the hits. Wonder if they pay any of these tunes these days?
Not really my thing but the guitar tone was fantastic
i can hear the strokes of brilliance layered all over In Rainbows — the tender compositions contrasted against Thom Yorke’s existentially probing lyrics. right from the album’s opening, the thesis statement is clear: death is always around the corner, waiting, lurking, but there’s still beauty to be had too. and yet, for some reason, no matter how many times i try (and goodness, have i tried and tried), i can’t seem to connect with the music. as an album eternally hailed as perfect, maybe the music is too perfect to the point of sterility (?). there are a couple songs here that do rise above that perfection and cut to the bone: “House of Cards” is a lush take on unrequited love, and the run from that song to “Videotape” is sublime. and yet, there is a sense of something missing, an elemental detail that should’ve given the record a touch beyond technical perfection. or — i don’t know — maybe i’m not big-brained enough to get it. and so we rest, only to try again another day.
IN RAINBOWS marks a sonic change in direction for one of my favorite bands. I'm still unsure about this, but knowing that this album instigated the course that brings us to the current iteration of the band, I can't argue. 3.5/5.
certainly not my favorite radiohead album. But, as always, there are strokes of absolute genius.
It's ok, but for me there is something truly special missing from this album that would really propel it to greatness.
Not sure why so many of these British bands feel the need to sing in a falsetto so much, but it's not for me. The songs where Thom Yorke sang normal were all pretty good, with some cool instrumental parts, but the falsetto ones knock it down a bit and def give a late U2 vibe. Cool that they let listeners pay what they wanted for the album when it came out. As they say in England, this wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was still a fairly enjoyable cup of tea with some interesting notes. Sorry Kev.
