Electric Ladyland
Jimi HendrixThis is a masterpiece of electric guitar and creative freedom. However that’s all it is. The lack of lyrics and track dynamism made me feel bored despite the incredible guitar.

I wasn’t expecting to like this one but it absolutely slapped. Good job Metallica
Might just quit my job and read in a cafe with this in the background for the rest of my life
Ah yes the music of bell bottoms, pretty guitars and many drugs. The string orchestra is a nice touch
Boomer sex playlist
Ye olde keyboard smash
Interesting but not my jam
It’s not a phase mom
Chill indie ☺️
They made punk long and boring. Dishonour on their guitars
Chill music and good mix of big band and ballads. However, anyone who unironically refers to themself as a genius in their album title deserves -1 star from me
Automatic for almost making me cry
Beautiful and warm
I can see these songs going hard at a club and understand why people like this but “Smack My Bitch Up” as the opening track put me in an uncomfortable mood for the whole album
Thank you Pixies for introducing me to the beautiful concept of surfer grunge. Super fun album that channels the adventure and pretentiousness of being a teenager. Almost makes me want to go back to 15
A spectacular reflection of psychosis, depression and insanity. The sounds are so precisely chosen that each song’s story shines through the cacophony. Bonus point for being a concept album
Amazing level of talent and creativity. I’m not a huge U2 fan but this a critically acclaimed album for a reason. One star off because it didn’t convince me to listen to more U2.
This album is beautifully cohesive in sound and lyrical themes. The first time I heard it in 2021, I felt the need to listen to more Lorde. Supercut, The Louvre and Hard Feelings/Loveless all have core memories attached to them and I listen to them regularly. 0.5 rating off because some songs are skippable
Some interesting takes on a very 60s sound but not overly original. Lack of lyrical depth and memorability makes the band seem better suited to a concert opener than a headliner.
4.5/5 Interesting, creative, fun and overall an enjoyable experience. -0.5 for Every Breath You Take romanticizing deeply unhealthy relationships.
Currently 4/5 but may increase with more listening. I didn’t have time to listen to the whole album properly so I’ll definitely be listening again. Love the goth vibes and can completely see why the post-punk nature of this album was influential for so many artists.
It wasn’t bad music but I can’t say I honestly enjoyed this album
List for Life and The Passenger are great songs. I also enjoyed Neighborhood Threat cause it was punk adjacent. The rest of the album reminded me how pedophilia, glorified destruction and uncontrollable ick drive me away from listening to more classic rock
Disappointing album. Adele has an incredible voice but this album felt flat and overly sappy. 21 is much stronger
This is a masterpiece of electric guitar and creative freedom. However that’s all it is. The lack of lyrics and track dynamism made me feel bored despite the incredible guitar.
Honestly I enjoyed this more than expected. The blend of soul, r&b and pop with nods to 60s girl groups creates an intriguing and dynamic sound. I’ve added Back to Black and Me & Mr. Jones to my main playlist because they immediately caught my attention and are 10/10 for dramatically dancing around the house with or without a glass of wine. +1 for the line “what kind of fuckery is this” which caught me by surprise but instantly reached me on a spiritual level.
Not a bad album but I didn’t enjoy it even after listening through twice to give it another chance.
3.5/5 Iconic, creative, and culturally influential album (+4), impressive for a debut album (+1), multiple lyrics that give me ick (-1.5)
Solid album. Fun, interesting and overall enjoyable
Groovy, interesting and weirdly relaxing. No complaints
LOVE the concept, feel ambivalent towards the execution. I didn’t really like most of the songs on this album (I’m not a huge fan of hip hop-pop) but I’m willing to relisten a few times and let them grow on me. The spoken word tracks were an excellent addition and enhanced the theme of the album. This album is rich in cultural and sociological critiques and will thematically hold up well.
Sounds like a worse version of the Mario Kart soundtrack. I respect the experimentalism but didn’t enjoy it
Lively, fun, and brightens rainy days with ease. Also a very nostalgic sound for me since my parents had several Afrobeat CDs including some by Femi Kuti (Fela Kuti’s son)
Love political punk but this was a bit of a slog
Undoubtedly culturally and historically significant album. Lots of energy, anger, and socio-political critique. Simple and effective.
I really liked the sound of this album but found it a little cheesy
Too slow for clubbing, too fast for studying. Not a fan of this kind of electronica. The integration of the streetscapes was cool though.
This is special
I want to like it but the 80s synths have aged poorly and just sound cheesy. The mall pop vibes get on my nerves.
An undeniably talented singer. Album was little sappy and whiny for my taste.
I wasn’t expecting to like this one but it absolutely slapped. Good job Metallica
Interesting themes and imagery but I didn’t really like the songs when they first came out, nor do I really enjoy them now.
Nostalgic sound that takes me back to driving around with my Irish grandmother. Love the mix of lyrical and instrumental tracks. Interesting lyrics and topics.
Overall cheerful and cute. Some lyrics aged very poorly.
A work of art that deserves to be here but not a style I’m a big fan of
Quintessential pop rock. I would potentially sell an organ to time travel into CBGB and watch Blondie perform live
First half 5/5, second half 3/5. Love me some danceable rock and roll.
Good music, but not my jam
Soul crushingly beautiful, amazing cohesion of multiple genres, and relatable lyrics like “I think I’m in love (probably just hungry)” This is an unquestionable 5/5 for me
Millennial hipster beach party with a couple joints vibe
This and stargazing in a field until you can barely stay awake This and dancing around the kitchen This and catching up with old friends at a cocktail bar This and reminding me that life can be beautiful
Groovy, nostalgic, and overall solid
I understand the mixed reviews on this one but I genuinely found it enjoyable. Muse was my first concert and seeing Starlight, Knights of Cydonia, and Take A Bow live were mind blowing. Many of the lyrics are shallower than I previously thought (at 16) but the thematic and musical elements of the album still hold up for me.
Fun, great guitar, and not gross (lyrically) unlike many classic rock musicians of the time.
Love the sound and energy but the constant “no one loves me wahhhhh” whininess gets on my nerves
It’s loud, it’s angry, it’s political punk that brilliantly reflects a socially turbulent time in the UK and I live for it
Lots of solid songs but also lots of meh
First half was 4/5, second half was 2/5
Weird but innovative. I imagine listening to this while high would be an absolute wild trip.
3.5/4 Interesting and fun
3.5/5 Long but overall enjoyable
Mostly overrated but I enjoy Don’t Look Back In Anger and Morning Glory
Had some good moments musically but I can’t justify any more than one star for lyrics so repulsively misogynistic that I genuinely felt sick
I’m a big fan of the 2000s indie rock revival but I found this album very mid
Immaculate coastal grandmother summer vibes but none of the songs really stood out
4.5/5 Overall excellent with important social justice messages. -0.5 because I found some of the songs too sappy for my taste.
3.5/5 Adorable lyrics and overall fun sound. Too long and disorganized to qualify a four for me
Don’t know why this album is on this list nor what the band was thinking when they approved half-assed lyrics that start promising then reveal themselves to be the work of a smooth brain. I liked the sound of the music though
Not mind-blowingly good but really enjoyable. I’m happy to be introduced to a new chill indie rock group
I know there are a bunch of religious and socio-political contextual references that I don’t really understand but even without this knowledge, I can tell this is a powerful record that sounds and feels good
Not bad but still overrated
I now understand why early 70s rock was considered a hangover compared to 60s rock. Quite frankly, this was lame.
Interesting lyrics, not a big fan of the sound
Love the instrumentals and indie rock revival sound but found the lyrics/vocals so repetitive, shallow and emotionless that it somewhat took me away from the music
Not bad music but not my jam. Interesting if you’re into music theory (I’m not)
4.5/5 Not my usual jam but the levels of talent, creativity, and grace makes this album special and very worthy of being on this list
Cheesy and generic
4.5/5 Fun, sunshiny, and sweet. This album is lemonade in a summer day
A rock album that you can dance to? That’s something I can get behind
Not my usual type of music but a nice change from all the 70s/80s rock in this generator. I felt out of place listening to this at my office/lab job but I think I would enjoy it at a rave. The length got to me a bit and I’d rank it 3/5 if it were under an hour
A rock opera was promised and 100% delivered. There was drama, humour, love, and tragedy. I give many thanks to Queen for helping popularize rock operas and inspiring some of my favourite albums. That said, the “I love my car” song should never have seen the light of day -1
Spooky and unconventional. I like it.
One of my favourite albums of all time. The rage, the tenderness, the vicious lyrics all come together to form a masterpiece of love and hate. Favourite tracks: The Chain, Gold Dust Woman, Silver Springs (deluxe edition)
Some good songs, many that aged poorly
Funky
I get if you’re a jazz fan, this is great. For me, it was passable background music
Sappy elevator music
Too much ego, not enough talent
Enjoyable but nothing really stood out to me
No denying he’s a world-class guitarist and this is impressive for a debut album but I had trouble connecting with the music and overall didn’t really enjoy it
Political punk automatic 5/5
If you’re expecting a four-man rock band, of course this doesn’t sound like music. Taken as eerie horror movie ambience, it’s excellent. Despite trying to not like this I found it intriguing and entertaining the whole time.
Cool use of diverse instruments but overall too sappy and not my jam
It’s a modern art museum
Lots of good hits but overall I didn’t feel connected to a lot of the music. It feels almost too safe and radio-oriented for my taste. Vienna is the exception. Vienna made me reevaluate my life choices.
If fans are heckling you at a concert maybe that’s a clue that you shouldn’t release this as a live album. First half was genuinely a painful waste of time. Second half was a bit more tolerable but even the harmonica seems to screech for help
Long but full of enjoyable and heartfelt songs. I was a little worried when I didn’t recognize any of the songs on the album but every Stevie song (especially Storms and Sara) stood out to me
White boys trying too hard to be cool but actually sounds decent
Love letters to other artists and anti-war propaganda are a thumbs up from me
It’s alright
Flower frolicking music
Interesting and influential for good reason. Would give it 4 stars if the horniness was less over the top and the band chose something other than “ding dong” to repeatedly refer to male reproductive organs
Absolutely legendary
If only there was a little more sexy guitar and a little less Robert Plant moaning
Groovy and captivating
Some bangers, some snoozers
The doors sound great when they steal other people’s music
Kings of darkness🤘🎸
This is a good album but not really my jam
Sounds like I’m getting abducted by aliens
3.5/5 I really enjoy the storytelling of this album. The layered imagery, stories of humanity, and emotional conflicts. That said, there’s a time and place for this album, otherwise it can easily feel boring
Half the songs on this album have been staples of my life since 2004. Of course I like this for the nostalgia but it’s also just a good record. Murder mystery, a diss track to a childhood bully, gospel choirs, strong guitar riffs and THE white person party anthem of the past 20 years… you can’t really go wrong.
Fun, groovy, solidly enjoyable
Irritating and repetitive. Reading through some of the lyrics was mildly interesting but the sounds were painful
I should like it but I don’t. Instrumentals sound good and I appreciate the artistic spunk but not my jam
Pros: -attempts to destigmatize sex and queer sexual orientations during a politically conservative era -talented vocals Cons: -multiple creepy and unsettling lyrics -ick production choices
Yeah can I please get a massive ego with a side of cool music
3.5/5 Funky and groovy. Some excellent songs, some meh songs but overall enjoyable
Yep definitely pills involved
Personal opinion: 1/5 -1 Sappy -1 Country music -1 Americana -1 Too much “oh lord” and thick accent that is typically shared by people with strongly opposed political views to me Opinion with atheist and anti-American biases aside: 3/5 The record is well done and James Taylor is obviously talented. I would rather drive in silence than listen to this on a long roadtrip but I understand why it’s award-winning.
Super fun album, definitely ahead of the curve
Sorry let me put on some black lace gloves and eyeliner before I listen to this album for the third time today. Anyways, exquisitely produced album. Love the beautiful weave of real instruments and synths. So many songs are rock solid and the whole album aesthetic is gorgeously cohesive without sounding the exact same.
Not bad but nothing stood out to me
2010s indie is usually an auto 5/5 for me and I like the sound but the album felt soulless. There was no passion or love that shone through.
Interesting and very forward thinking album
I appreciate the satire of the album but the style gives me unshakable weird uncle energy
Interesting concept and execution but not my jam
Fun guitar solos but otherwise boring
Feels like I’m having a stroke while high
Dude claims not to be misogynistic then proceeds to use really sexist insults. Overall smooth and interesting album though
It’s alright
Vibey Oasis
Beautiful songs. Didn’t make my lover and I want to swing though :/
Fun instrumentals, irritating vocals. Can’t believe these guys have three albums on here 🙄
Damn these guys need stronger antidepressants
Funky and danceable. Some great songs, some duds
Smooth anti-war music is a big thumbs up from me. Unlikely that I’ll listen to this again but definitely worthy of being on this list.
Cool music but don’t feel connected to it
Some interesting lyrics but parts didn’t age well. I enjoy the overall sound of the album but Neil Young’s voice is annoying.
Great if you want to drink moonshine and stare longingly at someone across a cornfield I guess
