Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Pretty easy listening. Off the first listen it’s a little homogenous but I think I’ll return to it!

Very mellow, feels like ending an old chapter in your life you don’t wanna move on from yet.

6/10, Favorite song - Baby Driver

Bridge Over Troubled Water feels like a warm cup of hot chocolate, the kind you drink while listening to sad music my dad would play in the background and some sort of a gentle nostalgia to it. I love the film “The Graduate” and “Baby Driver”, I can hear why Simon & Garfunkel’s music works so well alongside film because it feels cinematic and emotionally soft around the edges. I’m wasn’t familiar with Simon & Garfunkel’s game, but this album feels inviting rather than overwhelming. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with Bridge Over Troubled Water. The lyricism is poetic and beautiful, and each song feels like it’s telling a story through harmony and carefully chosen instruments rather than big dramatic moments. Still, I don’t think this is an album I’ll remember vividly a month from now. It leaves more of an overall mood than specific standout moments.

A few classic songs. This was fine. I wouldn’t choose to put it on though.

Sounds like a Zach Braff soundtrack

A cutsie little album very calm, would listen to baby driver again. I wonder why they didn’t use this song in the movie baby driver it’s so cute and it probably would’ve fit well. Oh never mind I found out that they did I just don’t remember. I should watch that movie again.

ok not my favorite

Pretty fun listen

Zzzz..

sweet sweet sweet vibe-wise, the album holds together, but as standalone songs not very much the flute moments were really nice though

For me it's the production values that save this record. Some outstanding tracks but also some filler. The Everley brothers cover shows they had run out of material and ideas

-wow this is really good. def prefer it to Bookends.. quite a few songs i recognize from my childhood, my mom is big into Simon & Garfunkel -this is the exact type of folk rock i enjoy and would like to hear more of. keeping it at a 3.5 for now but could definitely turn into a 4 after another listen i think -Favorites: Bridge Over Troubled Water, El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, and The Boxer

I think the hits really hit on the album, but the songs that don’t aren’t great. It’s highs and lows for me, I’d give it a 3. Bridge of troubled water, the boxer, the only living boy in New York are definitely highlights.

There are songs here that I really enjoyed, and others that didn’t stand out as much. The album is nice, but it felt a bit uneven for me. Still a good listen though, I liked It.

Hyggelig dette 👍

Tittelsporet er 5/5, litt kjedeligere låter innimellom der men chill vibes.

Live tracks don’t add much Bye bye love 👎🏻 Frank Lloyd wright would fit perfectly in any 1960s nyc film soundtrack Very nyc album Brill building folk rock

Very easy listen and classic tunes. Didn't blow my mind but I did enjoy it and it is easy to see how Simon & Garfunkel had such an impact on the music scene and inspired so many other artists.

Okay, but nothing crazy

2,5 stars Cecilia as my heart

There were a few songs that hit, but it didn’t capture me. I really wanted this album to be great. I love the era and some of the messaging, but musically is just didn’t resonate with me.

I like a few of the songs on this album, namely the boxer

Good vibes but not into it right now

I was really into this then the last song came on and it had a live audience clapping along which made me vomit

My only other experience other than this album was their album Bookends which I thought was incredibly underwhelming other than like "Mrs. Robinson" and "America." Rest of the songs on Bookends felt like demoes. This album is similar in sound, but I believe this one was executed better than Bookends such as, it has a nice subdued sound with wonderful melodies with Mike Love making a surprise appearance appearing as a guest vocalist on "Baby Driver." Highlight Song/s: Cecilla and Baby Driver

3.5 stars

qué buenos son los hits de este disco, pero las demás canciones se me hacen un poco meh. quisiera poder ponerle una calificación más alta, pero sí se me hizo unremarkable como un álbum

Baby Driver and The Boxer were something I like to typically listen to. Overall not a bad album. Not my cup of tea, nonetheless, still a good album.

More enjoyable then the last S&G album. The album cover looks like he ready to kill lol

Not my speed, but enjoyable nonetheless. ★★★

Frank Lloyd Wright song was pretty weird. What the hell was that?

Never really got Simon & Garfunkel. It's fine, just... a bit boring.

This album was pretty boring in my opinion. I hadn't heard any songs before this listen. To me, this is just pretty outdated. I wouldn't be mad if someone put this album on, but it would never be my choice.

Enjoyed this but thought it was quite front loaded. Cecilia was the best track IMO

This was nice! Cecilia? lovely little vibe.

There are some generational songs here, ones you never forget..even some lighter tracks are fun, like Cecilia (which feels like a blueprint for Some Nights by ironically, Fun). There are also a lot of tracks that are too light and made for the time, leaving the overall album unbalanced. Still bloody good though.

A little too much easy in the easy-listening, though pleasant enough. The songs don't get interesting until Cecilia. The Boxer of course a gem. Moments of delight mixed with head for the exits. The pluses carry the 4.

Wild that this is their 5th and final album. It's such a mix of hits and misses.

Not a fan.

Not really a fan of folk, at least it's not too long. 6/10 Favourite track: El Condor Pasa (If I Could)

These guys commercialized folk music while wearing those outfits, so that’s something. I had to learn a dance to Cecelia at summer camp and unfortunately that song has lived deep in my subconscious ever since. I think it’s worth reconsidering the proposition that sparrow > snail - I have a pet snail and he’s pretty cool.

Cecilia is a classic. Probably could have omitted the Frank Lloyd Wright song

Enjoy the variety here. Some good songs and interesting instrumentation. Not my usual taste but it’s very listenable. The guitar playing on ‘The only living boy in New York’ is so good. The live song is a bit random.

My most controversial music opinion may be that I think the title track here is a Bad Song. The lyrics are good, but it's so slow and sleepy and the ending climax feels overdone and unearned. Luckily the album picks up after that, turning into what is probably the duo's most diverse album. After the opener come the lovely "El condor pasa" and the hand clapping "Cecilia" - only three songs in and we have three distinctly different tunes. There's some pretty standard folk pop from the duo after that, but a few more left turns as well. It's pleasant, but that's as far as I'll go. The band has trouble nailing a middle ground between the too-quiet songs like "Frank Lloyd Right" and the too-loud ones like "Keep the Customer Satisfied." The best of both worlds is "The Boxer," which is good but not amazing. A pleasant pop album for sure, but not one that's hit after hit.

Lupsakkaa. Baby Driver oli hieman ärsyttävä muuten kiva.

solidi büez, ganz Stimmigsvoll aber am Endi vom Tag hald immerno Simon & Garfunkel cuteness mit country-untertön. Kei Kombi wo mi us de söckli haut. 3 son of a bridge vom Timon & Goetschfunkel

Pretty good album, a few songs don't do much and are a bit average but a lot of great tracks. Garfunkel's singing on Bridge over troubled water are the best vocals on the album not sure why he wasn't used more. Paul Simon's voice gets a but tiresome after awhile

A quiet and peaceful album that I wouldn't normally listen to.

The Boxer slaps so hard

Its nice music. Reminds you if simple times. Easy to liaten to with good lyrics. But a bit boring for me.

Vanskelig denne. Flere veldig sterke. Ceeeciiiliaaaa! Men noen helt intetsigende og. Tenker 3,5/5.

I thought this would be very boring tbh, and one of those albums where you can recognise that it was important for the time within music, but doesn’t necessarily equate to a good listen in the modern era. Have to say it was very enjoyable actually, very good tempo and catchiness throughout and best of all didn’t bore me.

Correcto

They made their mark in music. Defined a sound

First listen to this but plays like a greatest hits. So many of these songs are ubiquitous. Simon and Garfunkel are kinda whatever to me.

шесть песен отсюда знаю. ШЕСТЬ! но в целом заунывновато)

Tranquille

7,5/10 Highlights: El Condor Pasa Keep the Customer Satisfied The Only Living Boy In New York

Fine in the right context. Not something I’d have in my general rotation.

Transitional guitar rock nostalgia. Honestly listened to as background music while driving, very listenable

mid 2.75/5

quite a pleasent listen was nothing too crazy but i still enjoyed listening to it

3.5 I’ve always had a soft spot for Simon & Garfunkel just as I have the movie The Graduate, though I don’t really remember which inspired me to appreciate the other first. Regardless, this is post-Graduate S&G and the end of the road for their partnership (aside from a brief reunion in the ‘80s), so it stands on its own in a lot of ways. For that reason, I think people tend to over-romanticize this album just a tad - don’t get me wrong, it’s very good, but I don’t think it’s their best combined effort. I can get behind the title track being considered the group’s definitive swan song, but the rest of this album is all over the place. It’s not an outright bad thing, as it puts a lot of diverse songwriting on display, but it also just kind of lacks a sense of organization or flow. Fortunately, the quality of the songwriting makes up for that in a lot of ways, but it’s something that stood out to me nonetheless. Still, the boys sound as good as ever, and there’s no shortage of great songs in the mix, with The Only Living Boy in New York, So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright, Baby Driver (loved the classic ‘50s rock n roll sound here), and their signature track, The Boxer, all being favorites of mine in these listenings. I admittedly found Cecilia kind of annoying, but I can see how it could be considered a precursor to Graceland in some ways. Also, while I do appreciate Bridge Over Troubled Water, hearing it always evokes memories of 8th grade choir, and I cringe just a touch thinking of our performance of it then. Obviously, that’s a personal issue; objectively, it’s a great song. Above all, another quality release from a duo with no real misses in my opinion, but I still think Bookends is the superior album.

Pretty good, lots of songs I recognized

I liked this one. Will explore Graceland from Paul Simon. 3/5

I know I am in the minority as somebody who doesn't get the art worked by this duo, but there it is. Apart from the obvious classic, I found nothing on this album to excite or move me. Of course it's easy listening... And maybe it's just too easy for me.

Better than Bookends but not by much. Some solid hits, but really not much beyond that

- This should be fun! Another album I've heard but never really focused on - Very gentle. Dated. Not a big hit with me

I thought it was mostly good when it came to the more prettily arranged songs but the more folksy to country stuff... didn't really land for me. Still a nice album

This work both solidified my appreciation for Simon and Garfunkel's talents, and pushed me away. The first half of the album starts strong with the extremely melancholy title track, then it confuses its listeners with a strong niche Latin American influence. The second half of the album sounds more like what I would've expected with my limited knowledge of the duo, except for that one ska or "reggae influenced" track that confuses the listener but is more easily appreciated on mainstream US radio. I liked it, but I can understand why it was met with initially mixed reviews, it's showing ideas from different cultures and that takes some time to get used to. It does feel cohesive, there's a ton of talent throughout the compositions in general, it's just feeling goofy to me in too many places. I'd snag a copy at a discount price. 3.3/5

Cecilia, Baby Driver, The Boxer. Only Living Boy in New York are undeniable. Can't be ignored that some of the coffeeshop folk songs on here are absolute snoozers, though.

Some good tracks

A clearly very good example of music that just isn't for me. It had its moments but it just doesn't get me going

Did Simon ever write for another voice regularly again after parting ways with Art? I like some of his solo work but it’s probably no small coincidence that a lot of the best material he subsequently created is in partnership (or “partnership”) with other musicians. That’s not to take away from his considerable achievements (well, I guess it kinda is, I’m sure he’ll be fine), but it does get back to a recurring concern of mine about what constitutes a “solo work” and what is actually a front for a project involving many. He seems to benefit greatly from that give and take and it opens up his creativity - that’s a good thing! Case in point: this album! I’ll probably never vibe completely to his melodramatic twee affect but there’s a lot to enjoy here, from the Spector-worship to Art’s lead vocal showcase to off kilter inclusions and of course the immensely pleasant guitar fingerpicking throughout. Good stuff. (Although I am always immediately reaching for DJ Shadow after the first bit of track 2)

I appreciate that this is a good album, maybe even great, but their music has never clicked for me and I can only take them in small doses. Listening to this entire album was like being softly hit on the head with a pillow for about 40 minutes. It didn't hurt, it got annoying pretty quickly and I was happy when it was over.

Just a normal music. Unfortunatelly nothing special

gentle melodies of the 70s. fantastic songwriting and buildups. doesnt really have the verse chorus bridge chorus repetition of modern music.

Bridge Over Troubled Water - 8.5/10 El Condor Pasa - 7.5/10 Cecilia - 7/10 Keep The Customer Satisfied - 7.5/10 So Long Frank Lloyd Wright - 9/10 The Boxer - 8/10 Baby Driver - 7/10 The Only Living Boy In New York - 7 Why Don't you write me - 7/10 Bye bye Love - 8/10 Song For The Asking - 8/10 76/100

Good but overrated. The title track is amazing and so is the boxer but i cant see why this album is so highly rated. 7/10 Favourite: Bridge Over Troubled Water Least Favourite: Bye Bye Love

Beautiful

This album was good

fine 3/5

Not my fave

It's all-right. I'd give it a 2.6

1. The Boxer

A little slow and had difficulty following along. But this album has one of my favorite songs, The Only Living Boy... so 3/5

Calming, gentle, second half very forgettable (although maybe that’s because I was locked in on spreadsheets)

Classics

Surpised I didnt love every song, but also only did one listen. Great for long drives, introspection. Might need a second listen, as songs like these really grow on me over time. Instrumentals and vocals are stellar, but I think the subject matter on many songs was not my taste, feeling singsongy (just the genre).

so i'm liking this one much more than i liked Bookends.

Bridge over troubled water is such a beautiful song to me. Funnily enough, it used be a fave of mine when I was little and the band Hearsay did a cover of it. Although, the original is definitely better. Also really love the song Cecelia, the rest is the album is good but I prefer Paul Simon’s solo stuff more.

- Has a cool vibe to the entire album - I would not choose to listen to this normal but I'm vibing to it and enjoy it quite a bit actually Was not exactly what I liked but that didn't make it bad. It was cool to listen because it was quite influential and overall pretty alright music.

My fourth S&G album (counting Graceland by Simon), and 200th album of this project! Out of the S&G albums proper on this list, probably my least favorite of the three (gave both the others a 3 as well). Not much really stood out to me aside from Baby Driver (love the movie the song inspired as well). But everything else is pretty solid. The title track, I swear I'm more familiar with a cover of it but I can't figure what version that is. None of the covers (or original) I'm finding on Spotify are as bombastic as I remember. But yeah, good album. Couple great tracks. Weakest of the three S&G albums on the list, but they're all some flavor of 3 to me. But better than Graceland which I gave a 2.

its good, but didnt feel amazing

Well, here we are again. Another one of the top rated albums of its respected genre on the site, this time being Folk Rock. And, it’s another example of something that I can confidently say is objectively a 5, and yet personally I would only give it a 3. When something just isn’t for me, it’s always tough giving it a fair score, which is why I think everyone using this site should use their own individualized metrics to grade albums. Mine isn’t by objectivity, no one is ever going to read this review. It’s more of a fun journal to tell myself how much I liked an album and what songs are worth coming back to, if any. Sometimes these reviews can go wildly off track and I could just end up talking about something that happened in the world that day, or I could simply just tell you how my day was specifically. The point being, it’s not to be taken seriously as gospel. But yeah, “Cecilia” is my favorite song here. They’re all great, just not my cup of tea. I wouldn’t necessarily even call this Rock. The 36 minute playtime is also just the perfect length, bonus points for being so tight with no filler. So, yeah, I reiterate. Objectively a 5, personally a 3.

Its not you, its me. I know everyone in the whole world LOVES Simon and Garfunkel, but I don't. They are great singer-songwriters, but the esteem they are held in baffles me. Most of these stars are for the Album cover - Place thumb over Paul Simon. Embrace the moustache.

gute produktion ++ songwriting nicht ganz so meins 6/10

Lots of emotions listening to this whole album. I heard it a lot when I was quite young.

this one was pretty good. “the boxer” is an all timer for me. i realize the title track is one of their biggest songs, but i could never really get into that one. solid album.

I think after a few listens it'll really hit but for an initial listen, it wasn't bad.

"Gentle hippies, put your filthy hands together... for the folk stylings of Cylon and Garfunkel!"

some classic mellow bangers on this one.

A classic that cemented these two as great songwriters of their era. To bad Paul Simon turned around and bashed Garfunkle to smithereens.

I love the instrumentation in this - it’s so rich and I love whilst it’s a folk rock album, they’ve taken so much liberties in making it as genre fluid as they could for the time. Nice listening experience - wouldnt mind listening to it in the car.

None of the songs are bad but I can't say they all excite me

What I like I like a lot, but the rest is hard.

I’m not crazy about Simon and Garkfunkel but I do think this album is far more compelling than Bookends. Plenty of great songs and performances on this one that have far more direction than other tracks of their I’ve heard. Over all, don’t mind it Fav tracks - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Cecilia - The Boxer - Baby Driver - Why Don’t You Write Me Worst tracks - So long, Frank Lloyd Wright

Art Garfunkel is vaginal dryness in human form. 'Cecilia' is good, tho.

Not what I was expecting from folk music. Not bad and can see why it’s widely appreciated.

It’s so pretty. Very easy to listen to.

nice easy listening, highlights: cecilia and el condor pasa. 6/10

Very nice, not my kind of music but I still think it's a beautiful album.

One of those I've listened to countless of times due to it being on heavy rotation in my mum's collection. Yes, the harmonies are great and some of the arrangements are as well. I just enjoy it less and less each time I listen to it.

I liked some of the songs but I feel like there was something missing to the songs.

The good songs on this album are great and classics, obviously. The other songs are annoying at best. But there's a lot of good songs. 3/5

Not bad,

This was really not amazing

First one is good and I recognise it but I wouldn't listen to it usually, very country sounding. Some sad some happy, all good

Way more energy than I expected, quite liked it

Meh. Hade högre förväntningar. Töntig musik som ändå är mysig. Helt ok. Men vet inte för vilka tillfällen.

I really like a few songs on this album. Obviously the title track is the highlight of this album, and if I were setting the track order, I'd put it at the very end of the album, because having it at the very beginning kind of lets you down for the rest of it. 3.4/5 Highlights: Bridge Over Troubled Water (this is the only version I like of this song) The Boxer El condor pasa Cecilia

Kind of a mixed bag of interesting stuff and garbage

Some classics, and then some I realize weren't on the "best of" album for a reason. Hard not to hear some of these and think of Blutarski smashing their guitar at a frat party in 1967.

I quite like the opening track, but there was a bit too much of this and I just really struggle with Simon and Garfunkel in general

Альбом не тронул и ничем не зацепил.

Did not enjoy as much as Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (which I gave 5), idk what the difference was

C'est ok Je n'arrive pas à comprendre qu'il ai été aussi populaire

Soft and sweet, like a strummy lullaby. Great job, guys!

I love their harmonies so much.

Boring. 3/5

Tons of hits on this album like Cecilia, The Boxer, and El Condor Pasa. There are also many slow points on this album--though I get Simon and Garfunkel are kind of known for being slow, you get what I mean. Keep the Customer Satisified is a pretty bad track, and the title track isn't great. In fact, outside of those three tracks, and maybe a couple other decent ones like Bye Bye Love, the album isn't stunning as a complete piece. Most of their albums are like this. It's just that those singles--especially Cecilia and the Boxer, are generational hits. 3/5.

I always found their vocals limp and weak, something that really stood out when listening to their cover of Bye Bye Love, which I thought was really insipid. But this is a good album, I think I can finally hear some of what makes them so appealing and beloved by so many. There is stuff in here that reminds me of The Beatles, and some foot-tappers like Cecilia and Baby Driver, and then the sentimental The Boxer and The Only Living Boy in New York.

The hits are great, the misses...

I knew a confusing amount of songs beforehand, quite a few of them from their Finnish translation counterparts too, which I had not realized was a thing. I am also very happy to report it does not sound trad. folk enough to make me want to poke out my ears. Not the kind of music I enjoy listening, but I did somewhat enjoy this once over.

#578. This isn't bad, but I really struggle to get into shit like this. Maybe you just had to be there to get it. I kinda wonder had I lived through this era of music would this be like Creed, where I hated it at the time but now I kind of enjoy some of it, or like Nickleback where I hated it at the time and now I hate it more. I suspect probably the latter, but who can say. 3/5: mid

Yes it's a beautiful album with some all-time classics, The Boxer, Bridge, Cecilia. Personally I'm not *huge* on Simon & Garfunkel, but I can appreciate them every now & again.

Solid 3 star

3 big hits love Cecilia

Just two dudes who made decent Americana road trip music. A classic album.

2.8/lots of songs i know via deja vu but overall not my thing fully

A pleasant album to listen to, especially as background music.

This kinda fell into the background for me. I've never been a huge S&G fan, so I'm not sure I really got much out of this.

I was expecting this to be more familiar to me as I've definitely heard of them the most so far, but I only recongised Bridge Over Troubled Water. The rest was fine, but nothing special.

It sounds just like any other Simon And Garfunkel music, as well as any Paul Simon song. Just continuous, monotonous mediocrity in Rock music. Favorite Track: "Cecilia".

While the songs are iconic the album production feels bloated and emotionally overwrought.

I'm pretty lukewarm on Simon and Garfunkel.

Antingen fryntligt eller deprimerad men en banger

Short and doesn't overstay its welcome but a little indulgent in how sentimental it tries to get at times and I didn't love the live rendition of Bye Bye Love. The Boxer and Cecelia are both classics that absolutely stand the test of time and The Only Living Boy in New York is a new favorite.

I found this pretty boring despite loving songs on it I already know

It's the first time I've ever heard the title track, and my God what a beautiful song. Perfect angelic tones by Art Garfunkel. Just when you think it ends, it comes back with more intensity, more percussion and some nice orchestra and builds to a wonderful crescendo. What an opener. 'El Condor Pasa (If I Could)' follows it, and it's a really lovely track. You don't get enough flute playing in songs for my liking! From here it's slightly hit and miss. Nothing bad by any means, but wavering quality. I will say though, you can hear the influence from The Beatles on some of these tracks. 'Keep The Customer Satisfied' and 'Baby Driver' you could absolutely find right at home on an early album from the Fab Four. I personally don't think the rest of the album lives up to these heights of the opening two tracks. It's ever so slightly boring in places, but the dull tracks are worth enduring for the jewels that they surround.

I liked it!

Listens: 3 Stand out tracks: El Condor Pasa (If I Could), Cecilia

Didn't realize all these songs were on this album. There's a good mix of vibes and genres. There's some Beach Boy & Beatles feels, western and stripped back piano stuff. Probably too much on the slow side for me, a bit of a snoozer but I guess not too bad for background music. The songs I knew, I enjoyed, the rest were average to me.

I know that name from somewhere

These two are legends. I don't know much of their music but I do know what they bring. Too slow for me at the moment. 3-starts

Got bored. It's my problem. Neve enjoyed Simon.

We sang Bridge over troubled water in my middle school chorus class. The album was too gentle for even a weenee like me. Some undeniable brilliance but I would need to be in a very specific mood to want to hear this again.

Imagine a world where Simon and Garfunkel never met. I doubt that world much would be different, but I wouldn't have had to listen to this. I have faith Paul Simon could still have figured out Cecilia, and I may miss that far off cannon blast reverberating drum in The Boxer, but I think my life would be better.

Average good album with 2-3 hits like El Condor Pasa, Cecilia....

good album but too chill for me.

It was okay. Classic but just okay

I liked it!

Pleasant listen, don't know all that much about Simon and Garfunkel admittedly. I'd like to hear more

It's a beautiful sounding album with some beautiful songs on it...but it isn't Simon and Garfunkel at their best. Paul Simon is one of the greatest of all time, however. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)

great harmonies and some lovely tunes

Good album but not quite my style can't deny the songs are good but its a little slow and dull. Cecilia is definitely a highlight for me, as is The Boxer.

My favourite part of this album is the cover. Put your thumb over Paul’s face, Art gets a funky-ass ‘stache. The hard-pans are incredible, especially when it gets to “Baby Driver” and you get that stereo panning of the hot rod. I don’t like the live Everly Bros song jammed on there. Just feels so out of place.

Liked songs: Bridge over Troubled Waters, El Candor Pass, The Boxer, Why Don't You Write Me, Song for the Asking Ok: Cecilia, The Only Living Boy in New York, Bye Bye Love Disliked songs: Keep the Customer Satisfied, So Long Frank Lloyd Wright Album review: 5/10 Some good songs, but there wasn't much cohesiveness between song orders. Would listen to the liked songs individually, not a part of the album as a whole

The great songs are a couple of the greatest. But the rest can be a pass. As this is a list about great albums that must be heard, and not great singles, I regret to give an average rating. Their live in New York is a significant step higher.

Listened on my way to a funeral for someone I have known since these songs were on the radio. Same as it ever was, but good to hear it in a mournful mood.

This is #day172 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... here's to the second Simon & Garfunkel album on the list, which turned 55 years old recently. Now, folk rock has never been my go-to genre... it's something I don't mind listening to very (very) seldom, if ever. I did enjoy the duo's first album that popped up a couple of months ago, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. Something was charming about it that made it impossible for me to rate it lower than a 3. Or, I might have been in a more appropriate mood. This one may still be an occasionally lovely listen, but it doesn’t quite hit the same mark. The title track and a few others are nice, but overall, I'm feeling less captivated. This is a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day173.

Some classic songs on this, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I like them. I can’t stand “Cecilia” for some reason, but “Keep the Customer Satisfied” is great. Such a mixed bag that on the whole this is a 3.

Good pop songs

You had to have this album in my youth, even years after the release date. I didn't have it. Many songs were played at cozy gatherings in the cliques back then. The girls in particular preferred this album. That's why I have fond memories of it. I like listening to Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer again. Overall, however, the music has always been too cloying for me. 3/5

3 or 4 great songs on it. I think it's best when the songs have some sort of percussive element to them.

I didn’t realize how many songs on this album I was familiar with, or how strongly I would associate Simon and Garfunkel with Wes Anderson movies. I found this a pretty uneven album though. I enjoyed just about every other song, and found the ones inbetween pretty dull (including the title track). “Baby Driver” was my fave, and one that I don’t recall ever hearing before. Over all, this album was fairly enjoyable, but I probably will never go back to it other than for a couple individual songs. 3/5

Overall not bad, musically, but way too earnest.

Cecelia is a bop.

"El Condor Pasa" is great - unfortunately the other songs don't reach that same level for me...

not my vibe, but cannot deny the impact it had.

zzzzzzzzzzz

A few good ones but not my favourite

I liked this but not as much as bookends. Cecilia is a classic. Bridge over troubled water a bit overrated. The pan flute is one of the most annoying instruments ever made.

I mean there’s some serious schmaltz on this album. But you can’t deny that there’s a lot of classics on this too. He reminds me my parents. In a good way. Doesn’t mean I wanna listen to it very often, but I can’t hate on it either

ouvindo agora. mas bonito o início

This is my first time listening to Simon and Garfunkel, and idk I guess I expected more. It is fine, but a lot of these songs sound really lame. They aren't bad, but they just sound really cheesy. There is definitely stuff to enjoy here, and I can see why people like it, but this album just isn't for me. High 3.

It’s was enjoyable but Paul Simon gives me the creeps sometimes. He’s like little angry song writing robot

this record wasn't really my cup of tea, but 'the boxer' took me to another world

This definitely feels like early Simon & Garfunkle- lots of Folk influence and a lot of softness/airiness in the tone of the songs. It definitely has some hits- Cecilia and The Boxer are both powerful performances. And as is the case with S&G, the songwriting is the strongest component. Overall- I enjoyed it.

MTroche za spokojne dla mnie, ale If I could podoba mi się dzięki temu że jest takie mistyczne, The boxer i the only living boy im NYC ze mną rezonuje

Good album, with some nice songs and some less interesting ones.

Just like all of the other S&G albums, this is a very good easy listen but nothing I would throw on again. Always happy for them so come up though. This one does feel like it was the best so far I really liked The Boxer.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is a good song. Very peaceful and introspective. Cecilia is a jam too. The rest kinda became background noise. Not bad in any sense but just nothing spectacular. Just there.

A beautiful record. Just not my cup of tea. Deserves to be here for sure though. Just tends to fade off into the background. However special mention must go out to the title track but moreso The Only Living Boy In New York. Unbelievable song

Decent

я обычно фолк не слушаю, но мне понравилось в этом альбоме, что музыка очень разнообразная поэтому было хотя бы не скучно (в отличие от боба марли….) favs: keep the customer satisfied, so long frank lloyd wright, the boxer (за исключением «лай-ла-лай» части)

The Boxer such a great tune! Great album.

Decent album. Many popular songs that have gotten airplay over the years.

love paul simon solo and quite a bit when he's with garfunkel , but never really loved this album despite it having some very popular big hits. 3

Classic album, heard these songs so many times before, just not in the original sense through a full set. 3.4

That was a nice album to listen to. It was interesting take on American folk motives. However today, for the foreign ear (I am from Central Asia) it sounds as "far away" music. Boxer is good.

If this list has taught me anything, it’s that I enjoy Simon and Garfunkel a lot. I think other albums of theirs are better, but this is still very good.

FAVO: Cecilia, Keep the customer satisfied, Baby driver

Could i write poetry to this? n

These two sure knew how to write a pop tune.

This is another album where I can recognize its beauty, even though it may not align with my personal taste.

Good Sunday album.

S’alright. Bit twee but it’s got some bangers.

Good album. Some moving tunes and some that I didn’t realise were S&G. Great for a Sunday Morning

From an album ruined by a voice to a group who were known for their voices. The first three minutes of this album are so wonderful. I've heard this song so many times and still it moves me. His voice is absolutely incredible, so beautiful. I think it's a shame they went for the crashing drums and the big crescendo though. The second track is a tune I remember from when I was really, really young, played on the radio I guess. After that my favourite track is 'The Only Living Boy In New York'. That's about it though. They did some beautiful stuff but for me their best album came 4 years before this.

Pleasant listening but lacks the sonic depth of more recent folk classics from the likes of Fleet Foxes. I enjoyed the opening track a lot, though.

I guess everybody from my generation is well familiar with this one. I was never the biggest fan as it's rather soft for me. The wife would give it 5 stars if allowed to vote.

A little mellow for my liking. A little too folksy for my liking, too. The Boxer has some interesting bass brass sounds (?) at the end, starting at about the 4:20 mark. Baby Driver - ew. Mouth farting noises are next level bad.

Não tem como ouvir "The Boxer" e não lembrar da versão em português. É um bom álbum.

Classic

First listen. Pretty good.

God damnit

A lot of it feels lightweight. I was surprised by how goofy it felt at times. Like the Monkees with more Davy. 'The Boxer' is still incredible. And I liked the Salesman one hearing it for the first time. But a lot of the lyrics aren’t as good as I feel their reputations would have indicated.

Really liked about half the songs on here (and moderately liked the others, though some were too slow for my tastes). Probably 3 1/2 stars? Paul Simon's solo material speaks to me a bit more.

I don't know if I ever listened to it from the top. Was vibing hard but I didn't like the third track cecilia, even if it does add variety, and from there I just never fully reconected.

I'm familiar with the hits, will be the first time listening to full album. The climax in "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is chill inducing. Favorites: "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)", "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright", "The Only Living Boy in New York" Least Favorites: "Baby Driver" (x1) 3 Stars, B

aardig plaatje.. enkel verstoord door stinker 'el condor pasa'

I don’t know how they do it. Everything about this is something I would hate, but for some reason I don’t really mind it. I felt the same about the last S&G album I got. Weird voodoo wizards…

It's hard to deny that's a pretty strong opening track. Followed by many more familiar and decent tunes. I've never deep dived on the lyrics too much though. There aren't many that are very meaningful to me. Cecilia was fun. Not sure I need any more songs about famous architects. Sam Rockwell and Will Ferrell should play them in the biopic. Good songwriting that doesn't really connect with me. Three stars.

Powerful for sure. I completely get why its on here and it definitely was a moment. The ballad style tracks weren't really my thing but I do love the folk elements scattered in and the more up-tempo tracks. I feel like I'm being transported somewhere. Highlights: El Condor Pasa (If I Could) Cecilia Baby Driver Why Don't You Write Me

I like The Boxer the best

Classic, nice, good pace.

I enjoyed hearing some of the songs that I never heard before.

I did not actually enjoy this album as much as I thought I would. I know these guys are great in the big picture sense and of course several massive best of all time songs are here... but for me it felt sort of overly sentimental like it was kinda being manipulative, like it was purpose built and not just made for love. I don't know? It just didn't hit like I thought it would... I was mildly disappointed although I am sure it is an unpopular opinion, it is real. Maybe someday I will change my mind?

Surprisingly average

Decent enough album. I really like "The Only Living Boy in New York".

My brother absolutely adores this album. I love some of it. Bridge.. Of course starts off so gentle, but builds so brilliantly that it's never overblown while sounding epic. I love the beginning of El Condor Pasa as it now immediately makes me think of the DJ Shadow song which sampled it. I can't really get on board with Cecilia. Probably because I heard Suggs' version everywhere for months in the 90s. Keep the Customer Satisfied is a slightly twee toe tapper which is fine I guess. I can't unhear Thunder, Lightning, the way you love me is frightening over the chorus. So long Frank Lloyd Wright definitely exists. The Boxer is a classic, no notes. Baby Driver, dear god this album is tonally all over the place. Pick a lane, Paul. Only Living Boy in New Cross..er I mean New York, is gorgeous, Why Don't you Write Me is another tonal handbrake turn. Decent enough song mind. Bye Bye Love is a banger. My daughter was excitedly telling me about The Owl House throughout Song For the Asking so I have no opinion.

Only song I listend to was Mrs. Robinson, but its great and I love it

Three stars not because I thought it was technically/musically bad but because it wasn’t to my taste.

I knew this album wasn’t for me when I thought it was starting to get really good but that’s because the album was finished and YouTube started playing something else. It’s not a bad album, just not my cup of tea.

Folk music isn't really my jam. Good for what it is

Ah, Bridge over Troubled Water! Like a lovely snuggly cardigan. 3/5

70s folk ain't my jam. It's okay.

Mostly boring with 3 good songs

Quality songwriting, the title track and Cecilia are a classics. Overall the musical style isn’t my favorite, but a good song is a good song.

This was good. I find myself increasingly enjoying Simon and Garfunkel. 3.5

I really, really wanted to like this album, but felt like there were one or two songs that carried it and the rest were meh. Keep the customer Satisfied was the first song that really impressed me, and it was because of the brass hits. I don’t like the softer songs, like So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright. The Boxer I do really love. Baby Driver - fun song Why don’t you write me - also fun, Beatles-esk

First three songs of the album were great! Feels bad to give the album a 3/5, but I lost interest after cecilia (excluding The Boxer). I enjoyed listening to the album but would only return to the songs I enjoyed. This is album 1/1001 so my rating scale might change as I listen to more albums.

Et af de covers jeg set mange gange, men ikke har fået hørt. Sangene er fine og ganske forskelligartede.

Yeah yeah great album and all that... Like a lot of these recommendations, I find it hard to listen to it out of the context of their iconic/boomer status.

It's fine, a couple songs really stand out, but it's a pretty average listen overall.

I feel like I everyone knows this album but everyone hasn’t listened to it and I get it. Cecilia breaks the mold on this one. That’s as much of a banger that this type of band can muster. Keep the Customer Satisfied tries to keep the momentum going and then it drops back into mellowdom. When they pick up the pace of the music it’s very reminiscent of peak Beatles. But then they let it go. This is a good album to put on to fall asleep to. That gives it a place in this world. Choice cut: Cecilia

It’s pretty alright at times, but can also be sappy, overwrought, and bombastic at times, too.

Not my cup of tea, but it's not bad

Worse beatles

Was more or less unfamiliar with this album outside The Boxer (though I think I might have heard Cecilia while checking out the aforementioned song). Expected to like this a whole lot more based on my experiences with some of the duo's other songs, but was relatively underwhelmed instead. El Condo Pasa (If I Could) is an amazing revelation though (easily my favorite track here), and although a little melodramatic, Bridge Over Trouble Water is quite good as well. And of course The Boxer. Enjoyed this, but was not blown away by any means.

Can't really focus on this enough to care. It's not offensive, but it's just such "background music in a dentist's office" that my mind does everything it can to push it out of the forefront of thought. Better than Simon's solo drivel in my opinion, but nothing I can get excited about either for or against.

Great album. So many well known songs. Wonderful harmonies. The swan song for a tremendously Influential duo. The singer-songwriter era will never be equaled. Total non sequitur……what is up with the album cover picture? Why is part of Arts face blocked by Paul? Never understood how someone made the decision to choose this picture.

The album is only half as good as the mustache review.

eh ja, siebziger! haben wir in den achtzigern rauf und runter gehört, seit dann gibt es aber schon mehr musik als dieses lagerfeuer-geschrammel. nicht (mehr) so meins.

Slightly overrated. But has my fav S&G song (only living boy). 3/5

7.5/10 really enjoyed the opening tracks from this album. However, I felt it lost its pace later on. I love the rock & roll inspiration across this one. The vivid storytelling of Simon always captures me.

Not for me. Some classic songs.

Anyone else remember Chris Eubank guest presenting Top of the Pops and introducing Suggs' cover of Cecilia?

3.5 stars

It’s a 4-4.5 star album that sounds like nostalgia. But although I’ve owned this record, downloaded this record and listened to it before I’ve only once wanted to put it on before now. And I’m almost 50. Great record

Niet mijn favoriete Simon & Garfunkel album, iets teveel quirky en te weinig schoonheid.

Starts out slow, but picks up energy as it goes along. Still a little too slow for me. 3/5 Might listen again

#43 - Huge for its time I'm sure, still some of the songs in here are bangers. Wouldn't call it a favourite but definitely a good listen.

Ganske udmærket plade. Stille og eftertænksom.

They were icons of their time for what they added to the environment. My fandom went as far as the radio. I didn't feel enough about them to ever pick up on of their albums.

Great album with some of the hits. There are a few skips, though, but such easy listening.

Ok but not fantastic

Relaxed and fun vibe. Solid harmonies and song lyrics but felt a bit similar overall.

Used to be a big fan, but it has waned...

B- Bridge Over Troubled Water 4 El Condor Pasa 3 Cecilia 3 Keep The Customer Satisfied 3 So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright 4 The Boxer 3 Baby Driver 3 The Only Living Boy In New York 4 Why Don't You Write Me 3 Bye Bye Love 3 Song For The Asking 3 Good job fellas

A couple really good songs and a couple of decent ones. The rest was a little too slow or folkish for my taste.

it's definitely good but i honestly just think i'm not in the mood for folk musci rn

Melodic…I’m not sure why but this classic album just didn’t so much for me this time around. Will need to revisit in a few years.

I’m so conflicted with Simon and Garfunkel. Some songs really stand the test of time of incredible songwriting, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, The Boxer. But then others just sound very dated and I would never choose to listen to them again.

Less pretentious than Parsley Sage Rosemary and Time. Still, tough to get through some of the deeper cuts.
