Not my tempo!
Irriterande, men tidvis ok
Simon & Garfunkel, a duo that certainly earned its place, albeit not necessarily in my frequently played artists playlist. And Jesus, I expected some more acoustic guitar singer/Songwriter stuff like on the previous S&G albums I got, instead, this album launches straight into its title song that pulls absolutely no stops on the pathos - it's MUCH more sappy than I remembered it. A sort of pseudo-Greek/Latin/Italian/no idea folky thing follows, which is fairly awful. It gets a tiny bit better after that. The good news is: Simon & Garfunkel have 3 albums on this list, which makes this the last one I'll have to listen to.
Somehow I find the music to sound unnecessarily crowded.
Some nice songwriting but not that exciting
I feel like I wasn't in the mood for this album today. They have a lot of great songs in their catalogue, but this just didn't really hit for me at the moment.
Really disappointed I didn’t like this one more. Was previously a big fan of past Paul Simon work & headed into this hoping I’d feel the same but only ended up liking a few.
I didn’t enjoy I rally really wanted to but the vocals were pissing me off maybe picked the wrong day and should try again with it?
Better than the other one that I rated from this but still - Garfunkel's vocal style is so whiny that it's hard to enjoy in long stretches. It's too soft for my tastes though the title track is extremely great. El Condor Pasa is great and Cecilia is a sweet little track but the rest is just forgettable/too soft for me.
Assumed this would piss me off and was pleasantly surprised by the contrary! Light and lovely.
Meh, quite boring. Can be fun in the right mood, but overrated.
quite boring, but with somehow pleasant atmosphere
LIke beatles but worste. The best in my opinion is El Condor Pasa
I bet they walked so other bands could run with their music, but it's like, they became a cliche of music. 2 stars, sorry.
Some great songs but not my vibe
I get it, but it’s all rather folky-twee.
It was good I'd say, the first two songs were great, then cecilla was the best song of the album imo, after that the album started to get boring and uninteresting, the rest of the songs sounded just the same as the ones before. But still I enjoyed a few songs on it, so good record...
Song progression: 1 - I liked the chorus 2 - This one was actually kind of good 3 - A classic I think? I've heard this one before. I didn't love it though 4 - Nice lyrics, actually kind of a bop? 5 - Had its moments, but the instruments in the background just ruin it for me (not my style of music) 6 - Had like, one moment of enjoyment 7 - Intro was sort of good I guess, rest of the song wasn't for me 8 - bad 9 - oh boy he's desperate 10 - I'm so done with this album pleasee 11 - I FINISHED YAY! Final thought: The album is just not my taste! Just the style of music isn't for me. It's about this guy who is very passionate about his lover. At least at the start.
I love Graceland. I hadn't spent a lot of time with this album. As I forced my way thru it I realized, at least for me, I wasn't missing a ton. I just don't really get it.
Me manda a dormir.
Liked Songs Bridge Over Troubled Water
I am familiar with this album. My dad had this when I was growing up. Typical folksy album. Not a bad listen.
Didn’t leave much of an impression
Maybe at another point in my life. But for now, not a lot going for me.
These guys again? come on...
I do not like this.
I can not for the life of me figure out why S&G don’t really do it for me, and never have. I did like this better than I liked Graceland a few weeks back, so maybe Paul Simon is the issue. Didn’t hate this one, it just didn’t stick with me beyond giving it a listen.
First thought: Oh, that album with the funny mustache picture. Final thought: Oh, that album with the funny mustache picture.
A cultural touchstone. You don't have to like it, but you do have to know what it is.
I enjoyed the Paul Simon solo album far more than I did this album. Felt like music for people that genuinely enjoy church music. Frank Lloyd Wright reference was crazy tho
A few good songs on here. They new how to pick the singles.
2 stars..... not great.... 1-2 classic old songs but they dont slap
Did not finish or enjoy
I’m just not a S&G fan.
There is way too much Simon & Garfunkel on this list
Can't remember the last time I actually listened to S&G outside of the samples included in Girltalk's mixes. Cecilia stands out I don't really enjoy this to be honest, but it's fine I guess. 2
Well, I followed Master of Puppets with this album, so that was a vibe change for sure! Took a few rounds of listening to confirm this in not my type of music. But I gave it a solid go! Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: might have inherited it? Favourite Song: Baby Driver (the most upbeat one)
Middle part of this is solid. Either end is meh. Deducting one star due to the presence of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
CSNY but even more boring
I liked Cecilia, and some parts reminded me of a less experimental version of The Beatles.
Relaxing, but a bit wet
Pretty and melodic, overall this is a hushed and chill album that either fades into quietly into the background or demands close attention to the masterful song-writing, subtle phrasing, and understated instrumental prowess. Paul Simon loves a bit of the old cultural appropriation: the soaring Andean melodies and harmonies with pipes and charangos on El Condor Pasa are great and woven nicely into the structure of the pop song. Unobjectionable, and I get there's a lot of craft to it, but its never been my thing. Music for coffee shops and used book stores.
Standouts: So long Frank Lloyd Wright
Ei iske. Perustylsää rallattelua. Ainoa mieleenpainuva biisikin on suora ryöstö muualta.
I enjoyed this more than my preconceived opinion thought. More on here I recognised than I’d have guessed. Favourite track is ‘The Only Living Boy in New York’. Pleasant album but unlikely to form any part of my rotation going forward. 2 stars
kinda boring 2.5 if i could
I've HATED Cecilia for years. Always played at parents parties when I was a little kid and utterly detested it. Never bothered to find out who sung it as I didn't want to associate that anger with a name but here we go. Congratulations Simon & Garfunkel. I've previously accused you of being the dullest artists ever but now you go and double down with infuriating. The only time the album wasn't awful was when they were ripping off the Beatles. Some good stuff in those bits.
2.5
Folk rock isn’t my thing. I do like The Boxer but the title track is vastly overrated. I know many people like this but I’m in the minority on this one.
This did not please me.
I'm less of a songs person than most. Love the chamber music flourishes here and there.
Some classic tunes and obviously a massive inspiration to a lot of bands. Having said that, not really my cup of tea. Starts strong and then just gets a bit much for me.
I am not a fan.
Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either!
Did not hit for me, too soft of an album
Don't know, was looking forward to this and left me cold. Even the title track could take or leave.
In fact only a few songs really stick, but overall not a convincing album for me.
Had only heard the odd song from Simon and Garfunkel before and didn't particularly enjoy them. Unfortunately this album didn't change my mind. Highlights were "Baby Driver" and "Why Don't You Write Me".
NORMI LAULU ÄÄNI... joo hyviä biisejä huonoja biisejä the boxer paras
Great songwriting, but the delivery does nothing for me. Soporific, under-seasoned, ineffectual.
I know of Simon and Garfunkle, I know that songs like Bridge over Troubled Water are regarded as legendary - but, I really didn't get much enjoyment from this album. Maybe is a folk thing, but it's just pretty dull.
Background music
Bridge Over Troubled Water ist gut. Rest ist eher schwach.
skill check. i could not vibe with this. undiggable. there are things i like about it but for whatever reason this sucked the life out of me and ended up being a slog to get through.
I really hate folk music but this isn’t as bad as most other folk records
Had a really hard time not skipping Bridge Over Water, worst jam on the album Love El Condor Pasa! Put me more in the headspace for the album, maybe shoulda lead with this. Then Cecilia took me right out of it, I think this is probably more of an overplay problem (looking at you highschool art class). The Only Living boy in New York feels like it shares some common ground with a lot of the fold I listen to these days. Standout Tunes: El Condor Pasa, Living Boy in New York
A couple songs had a relaxing instrumental This was just overall boring Favorite track: Cecilia 4/10
It exists. I now know I don’t care for them at all. Maybe one song I moderately got any pleasure out of.
Man, there is just something with Paul Simon that doesn't agree with me at all. The record is fine, it's pretty, and the lyrics are very well written it's just so... chaste. Just not my thing. Favorite tracks: "Cecilia", "Baby Driver"
Nice vocals harmonies, as expected, and it is pretty easy to hear their influence on so much music that came after them, but the songs themselves aren't really doing much for me.
I feel like maybe if I had lived in this era as a young adult I’d really vibe with this, but alas I didn’t. Not really my cup of tea, but not all of them can be.
Meh
I will be honest, and say I'm still not and have never been impressed with "Bridge over Troubled Water". Ofcourse, on this album you'll find several pop classics, but this album is far from a masterpiece. The title-track itself, and quite a few other songs, are immensely overproduced kitsch in my ears. Violins, choirs and the lot. There's a few plus points to the album as well ofcourse. Songs like 'The Only Living Boy In New York' is beautiful, but it doesn't save the album. It feels it's an album on multiple thoughts and might be known as one of the all-time classics. But not for me.
genuinely thought that Cecilia was a Suggs original. never had a reason to think it was a cover. which brings me to the conclusion that yeah they do write a very good song. the problem is that their versions of the song are a bit shit. get someone else to do it. I'd genuinely rather listen to Suggs do a cod reggae version.
Nice but bland
What to say, … it would take a few more listens, but its much like crosby still nash and young. great talent, i know they are loved, not hitting that bar.
Yes, good, but not my thing.
I don't know. I'm getting kinda tired of this american folk music on this 1001 list.
Some classics but also some really dreary tracks that I'm not here for
Sad... Sad... Oh Cecilia! Meh... Sad.. Sad... This is an album to listen to whilst staring into nothingness, but I'll be honest, there isn't a single track on this album which doesn't have a cover that is 100% better than the version on this album.
Simon & Garfunkel's fifth & final album together released in 1970 and was their best and most effortless. This folk rock album contains some of their greatest hits and is certified 8 times platinum. This album also won 'Album of the Year' at the Grammy's. You can almost hear their impending break up in the musical production of the album, but at least they went out with a bang. Also, not my type of music at all, but still good.
What did I just listen to? I don't get it.
I guess there's some fun stuff on here. Clearly good, but it's not for me. Some of this is unlistenable. 2 stars for TOLBINY and Baby Driver
Jack says it's quite gay Very hard to get through this one
Good but snoozer
I would, If I only could, I surely would", provo tipo odio. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright, è l'unica che mi ha colpito.
I have an abiding dislike for Paul Simon and this didn't do much to change that, but it was still worth a listen. Seems like they tried to break the mold a bit by sampling some other genres and adding some different instrumentation, but still to much fetishization of the voices at the expense of other elements.
Boring
I understand how this is a good album, but I struggled to enjoy it. Prefer Simon on his own.
Obviously talented but boring for me
Like they tried to write a classic album by focus group. Aside from "Only living boy in New York" it has no conviction, and left me cold.
Igual nememen.
Not a huge fan of this one, very hit or miss tracks.
I feel like this is supposed to deserve an automatic 5-star. But I didn’t like it. It was sad, boring, and lame. Sorry.
2.5
Dull. If you put your thumb over Paul Simon's face, it makes Art Garfunkel look like he has massive moustache
Lowk to me its kinda bad but it’s not bad if yk, i don’t usually listen to stuff like this rlly but it’s calming too
This is by far the worst thing that I ever listened to in pop music.
Not a big fan of them. I’ve always thought Garfunkel was the most talented though.
+ voor de moeite. Beetje saai
Un coñazo
NOpe, nothing interesting here...
Snooze fest
Bastante insoportable la verdad
lwk ass
Solo me gusto la primera canción
Didnt really like it
Meh
ew gross
No es mi gusto
That didn't age well ...
Not my style
Lo siento pero no puedo con ellos... :(
I guess this one is ok. I listened and many of the songs felt familiar. Still giving it one.
el condor pasa and cecilia are good other than that meh
Not my cup of coffee
Unlistenable for me! Twee!
Gross
I am bored out of my mind.
Outside of Cecilia, this album is is not good. At least they kept it short. Simon is not good. Garfunkel is not good. Put them together and you get this album. .5 for Cecilia 1.5
Some recognisable classics but it's quite dull
No interest at all.
Not my Type of music, but at the end got kinda accustomed , still nothing I would listen to
1. bridge - 1.5 2. condor - 1 3. cecilia - 2 4. keep - 1 5. long - 1.5 6. bozer - 2 7. baby - 1 8. living - 1 9. me - 1 10. love - 0 11. zong - 1.5
Pull up the drawbridge. Let them drown.
Too slow. Too somber. 1/5
Not a fan.
its not my style. i dont hate it but I definitely don't want to listen to it ever again. i kinda like the track So long, Frank Llyod Write. his voice is nice and I like the music in the background. I'm so glad I'm done listening to this
Not really my thing.
Awful. Just awful. Basically an auditory war crime. I want to fight them both and their stupid dorky faces. Worst thing I've ever heard. Also what the hell is with the album cover? Why is Paul blocking half of Art's face? What kind of art direction is this?
3/5, ladilloso
Pony
Me duermo
I just don't care.
Ugh, this album was on repeat when I was a kid. My parents played it almost constantly (it definitely felt that way). For whatever reason I can’t stand listening to this particular album. I like some of Paul Simon’s solo stuff - just can’t abide the S&G material.
What is this the fuckin Partridge Family? Boomers were weird
Meh not a Simon and garfunkle guy
Yeahhhhhhhhh just very very not my type of thing!! Too slow I don't like the vibes I can just never picture myself listening to this again in any sort of scenario. Some of the songs are "ok" like catchy but again just not my typa sound.
it really sucks. The Boxer is tolerable, the rest is just unlistenable 60s flower child ukulele bullshit.
Maybe I’m broken but this felt like an ice pick in my skull
1st track: I hate it. 2nd: omg make it stop. 3rd: OK this is a jam. Rest of album: back to being awful. Sorry, the 1 track doesn't save you from 1 star.
Don't care for them
This one was hard to listen to. Didn’t jive with the style. I can understand how they've influenced other artists, but was just too slow and unmoving for me.
Just not really my kind
No really good
I really struggled to get through this one. I found it incredibly boring. It almost reminded me of being trapped in a school Carol service or something. It felt like it would never end.
I looked in the index of this book and saw that there are no Warren Zevon albums. This three songs with filler is, but no Zevon. Oh well.
BORINNGG
Eh not in the mood
I can see why this is popular and I can appreciate this for what it was at the time, but this is so goddamn sleepy. I have zero interest in listening again. 1/5
I did not need this today, awful.
This is v boring
No me gustó mucho
boring!
Blah....
I’m going to get the kids a new 🆕 car 🚗 for them so that I have them on their own so that we have the same thing as my parents house 🏠 for a few months so they won’t get a lot to go on their cars 🚗 but I’m just wondering 💭 how many miles a day is a good 👍 thanks 😊 have you had any of these drugs
Good
Lots of songs I knew.
