Reviews (page 12 of 13)

A good album, but not hugely cohesive and a little uneven in places. The live track was also not particularly welcome.

I think this could be a nice chill listen. It just wasn't what I wanted at the time I think.

Gute Musik, sehr ruhig.

The title track and "The Boxer" are standouts.

The title song does drama right, very intense and sad in the way you want it to be. Also love having songs about other things other than damn love.

Fismrst 2 songs are nice the rest is meh. Stil 3.5!

Some incredible songs but doesn’t grab me as an album

Very chill and relaxing, but with no memorable highlights at the first listen

I recognize the album cover but I wouldn’t have been able to name a single song that was on the album. However, I did recognize several songs. I enjoyed Bridge Over Troubled Waters and El Condor Pasa the most. Songs like Cecilia and The Boxer have elements I really like in the songwriting but the production wasn’t quite my taste to feel like they’re perfect. I do realize that I probably would really be into more subdued covers of those songs. I think the song I was surprised by the most was So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright- I read up a little on how Art had initially majored in architecture and asked Simon to write this yet Simon knew little about FLW it’s really about both of them breaking up the duo which is quite nostalgic and sweet. It also sounds more understated than the rest. I understand the love for the album and think it’s a good solid album. 3.5/5

Production is a bit muffled, but songs are good with a few classics. Bridge over Troubled Water-classic, but kind of surprising this is the opening song and not the closing. El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)-more Renaissance sounding than Spanish Cecilia-classic upbeat folk with Latin-styled percussion Keep the Customer Satisfied-upbeat pop with horns So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright-dreamy slow song, bossa nova-ish, feels a bit long but is < 4 min The Boxer-classic story song Baby Driver-upbeat boogie woogie with horns The Only Living Boy in New York-one of my favorite songs Why Don't You Write Me-bit of a country twang in the guitar lines, horns and percussion almost make it funky Bye Bye Love- live recording, standard cover version Song for the Asking-another live recording? Pleasant folksy song with strings. Highlights: "Cecilia", "The Boxer", "Baby Driver", "The Only Living Boy in New York"

I think as delighted to get this one. This is obviously a classic and some fit be tracks are proper American songbook standard. A full listen through was delightful, but revealed a couple of lower level album tracks and some weird orchestration so it's not perfect but it's damn good.

El Condor Pas, Cecilia, and The Boxer are pleasant songs, as well as the strings sections in Song for the Asking. Overall a pretty soothing album. Much better than their Bookends album.

Bridge over troubled water & keep the customer satisfied & the boxer &

Very atmospheric, this album constantly transports you... To church then an elevator then a funeral, and a concert hall sometimes. I'm exaggerating but the world that kept coming to mind was lullaby. I understand why they were sensational, it's nice music for nice people 🙂 I liked a couple songs Favorite song: Baby Driver 6/10

Have I heard this album before? No Rating: 7.7/10 Some really well written songs and nice harmonies. Good album.

Some classics but didn’t grab me

Some great acoustic stuff, with some fun numbers intertwined with a few slightly longer emotional tracks. Certainly an enjoyable and easily-listenable album via its warm atmosphere and short length, with a similar sound throughout despite the variation in emotions.

Not my type

Beginning was quite good but most of it was mediocre

I think the reputation of this album largely rests on the ethereal, otherworldly, brilliance of the title track. ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ is a beautiful song, an all timer and the first track on the record. It’s like church. The rest of the album just never quite lives up to this opening.

I can understand why people could really like this but I just don't. I hate the dual vocals. The more monotone folk songs all blend together. How is Cecilia on this album? It's like they decided to snort a line of coke in the middle of recording and get some energy. "Why don't you write me," is the only other real stand out for me.

Ugh, this really bores me. The Boxer is a hit. title track is a chore. Cecilia should be erased. That said, realising the opening chords from El Condor Pasa is the sample from Shadow's You Can't Go Home Again was worth the price of admission.

Keep the Customer Satisfied is a fun song. For such a famous album I thought I'd recognize more songs. Baby Driver is fun too.

This was a good album. The songs were distinct and pleasant, and I enjoyed most of them. There were just a few duds on the small tracklist. All in all I wouldn't listen to it again, but not bad. 3/5.

Garfunky

Dirge, followed by some Bangers then dirge again

The instrument is nice with the folk material makes it sound really fun.

Creative sounds, rich orchestration. Still, a folk album.

Good vocals. You can hear the influence on modern music. Dated sound but still enjoyable. 6/10

The Boxer was cool, the rest was fine.

All good. Apart from the vocals on the title track!

Do not listen if sleep deprived. This is snoozy. Classic but sleepy. I have listened to this album too many times to feel anything. But that could also be the sleep deprivation.

Well known group for a reason, but more of a background thing for me. Very soft and melodic.

not my style

Decent album. The famous hits were good, the other tracks were fine. As a whole, just average for me.

A few great songs, but I found the whole thing too folksy

Can't say I'm a fan but you can REALLY hear the influence on modern dream pop

Though, Bridge Over Troubled Water was considered by many as the high point of the Simon & Garfunkel catalog, I was indifferent and unsure if it was their best album. Commercially, this is their best known work and contains some timeless classics, but the title track I always thought as over-blown produced and even schmaltzy and never liked the song. Same with Cecilia, I didn't care for the song. I would consider, The Boxer one of S & G's best songs and I still rank it one of my favourite songs from the duo. The rest of the album is okay, but not essential and if you're just discovering the group (or cutting through the filler), start with the greatest hits album and earlier albums which have some really good deep tracks. Oh, and Paul Simon's first two solo records are better!

Oh whatever.

Classical

This was kind of nice, enjoyable as background music but not much more

I like the album. I just can't help but think about the Family Guy episode where Peter and Quagmire made a folk music duo. Simon and Garfunkel are definitely legends and awesome together.

Surprisingly not my favorite so far; loved the Boxer and Song for the Asking.

Too relaxed for me. Still good but just for the 1 listen. Will I listen to again: 5%

“Why Don’t You Write Me” is my pick off this album.

Title track, the boxer, only living boy all great,

Good Album

First time listening to this entire album, I have heard Cecilia though.. currently 8 songs in and I am trying to like this but it really isn't my thing lol, couple good songs tho, we'll see if this last bunch will "save" it. yeah, nah this one isn't within my tastes. It isn't terrible, but I'd really only revisit a couple songs in this album like once a year and then forget they exist. 3/5

Yeah I can see why Bridge over Troubled Water is their best known songn

Really good but something is stopping me giving it a 4… don’t know what. 3.5 I reckon…

Most of the songs are very familiar which takes a little shine off the album as a whole. Best track the Boxer

good album.

Actually quite good

Perfectly fine, bit dreary

better than I expected it to be, couple of bops

ben platt and jonathan groff’s famed album! - bridge over troubled water .. classic - el condor pasa sounds like if two groups were given the same music sample and s&g made this while abba made fernando - cecilia also a classic, makes me happy - keep the customer satisfied is a banger

What I expected, like some, others not, generally not my thing but obviously classic songwriters.

Felt so slow. Maybe good for lo-fi background music.

Some great moments in it and decent for a background listen, bit too relaxed for me overall

3 stars. A few nice songs but mostly waffle.

Pretty and melodic, overall this is a hushed and chill album that either fades into quietly into the background or demands close attention to the masterful song-writing, subtle phrasing, and understated instrumental prowess. Paul Simon loves a bit of the old cultural appropriation: the soaring Andean melodies and harmonies with pipes and charangos on El Condor Pasa are great and woven nicely into the structure of the pop song. Unobjectionable, and I get there's a lot of craft to it, but its never been my thing. Music for coffee shops and used book stores.

Are they classic songs because they're excellent or because they're so cloying that they appeal to a lot of people likely to have questionable taste (including kids, religious people, one's parents)? The arrangements on the title track sure suggests the latter. One will admit an anti-Simon bias (mainly for his preening self-regard), but still finds a good bit to like ("Frank Lloyd Wright" and "Only Living Boy") but the rest of it seems on the cliched side. One doesn't much care about their breakup. Like much of this records, that too was overdone.

Keep the customer satisfied The boxer Baby driver The only living boy in New York Song for the asking

I think I've listened to this album more than 20 times. It's rare that country-rock songs hit this much all over the world but I can understand why because I listened to them many times.

Many folk rock classics on this album, although never been the biggest fan of Simon and Garfunkel

Some absolutely beautiful songs, but as a whole didn't wow me.

There was one song that I liked and the rest was Fine

They sound like goats i forgot how many famous songs came from this album (baby driver, Cecilia, etc). Like this must have been a favourite album for many of the artsy kids with aspirations to move to New York in the early 60s/70s. Maybe the lame artsy kids - everyone knows the cool ones listened to the velvet underground.

Mixed. Nostalgia value - my dad likes this - don't know if I'd listen again though

Some of my favorite S&G songs, some of my least favorite S&G songs... Hard to rate.

It's endlessly odd to me while listening to the album straight through that Simon & Garfunkel put stuff like 'bridge over troubled water' and 'so long frank lloyd wright' on the same album as stuff like 'cecilia' and 'keep the customer satisfied,' and then i remember they broke up acrimoniously. the boxer is a perfect song. the lyrics are almost conversational but flow with the music perfectly like a gentle downhill stream in a way i don't think anyone else has ever come close to matching. most of it is listenable, a lot of it is good, and bridge over troubled water is one of the most annoying songs ever recorded.

rating this like a month after i listened and i still have fuckin' "Keep the Customer Satisfied" stuck in my head

2.5-3.0

Beautiful production, with dreamy vocals, sizzling brass, and booming percussion. Deeply influential sad boy intellectualism. Not exactly to my taste - it's a little too kitschy to affect me as deeply as the lyrics suggest. Still, top-notch song writing and performances from this classic duo.

Bridge Over Troubles Water — is already one of the favourites song of the album, right off the bat. El Condor Pasa — has this mexican-sounding tune or rythm that I do not totally dig into. Of course, the flute solo’s are beautiful but maybe that’s only the instrument, not the melody itself ? Cecilia — such a change of style ! Love the percussions and the joy. I must add I find the lyrics a bit dull, but I guess it’s more of a "hit" so it totally makes sense. Was suprised to find the flute again, and the typical Mexican or Southern notes. I feel like I know another very famous song that sounds just like it, couldn’t name it though. Keep the customer statisfied — very country ? Don’t like it much. Very much don’t know the era, but this boys-band style of singing sounds just like the Beatles. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright — Back to a solo singer on guitar, much like the first song. Very soothing. Back to solo flutes again, a continuing theme throughout the album. The lyrics though, still can’t get attached to them… The Boxer, I already like the lyrics more. There’s an instrument which I can’t name that adds such a deep and great note. Also, some battery finally !(okay maybe 3-4 beats) Baby driver — too american/country for me The only boy living in New York — some novelty in the singing, finally some battery and rythm that lasts more than a sentence ! Why don’t you write me — GREAT change of style ! So different, deep voice, a female singer and makes me want to dance way more. THE INSTRUMENTS TOO ! Instantly instant music solo. Best song of the album for the moment ! Bye Bye Love — Not bad, I feel like the concert version on Spotify ruins the song for me a bit. Song for the Asking — Very short. Appreciate the classical instruments, but the song in it’s entirety is not something I would listen. After some reading : this is Folk. Didn’t exactly know that style, and definitely not for me. Favourites songs of the album : - Why don’t you write me - Bridge Over Troubled Water

I thought I would like folk rock, but it felt a bit too folky. A lot of the tracks were so mellow that I thought it could be waiting room music. However, it was mostly enjoyable but I would never put it on for myself.

This was quite nice. Not sure I'll listen to the whole album again though.

3/5. I have fond memories of my father playing this album on his speakers for us when we were kids; just as his father had done for him. So many hits on this album, but I even enjoyed the deep tracks. So interesting the Frank Lloyd Wright song, as I didn’t realize there was a connection there.

Enjoyable listen with a few standout tracks

Has some good relaxing vibes. Album is from the 70's but still sounds good today. Not an every day listen for me.

Pretty cray

wel geinig

Highlights- The Boxer, Cecilia, Baby Driver, Bridge Over Troubled Water You need to be in the right mood to listen to Simon and Garfunkel. Unless my ears are deceiving me, it sounds like Paul is mixed louder than Art in the duets. I sorely wanted to like this album, but there is something about it that doesn’t stick. Overall: 6/10

I really dislike the composition of these songs, way too much going on and totally detracts from their vocal chemistry. Also hard to not think about the Flight of the Conchords episode where Brett and Jemaine become a Simon and Garfunkel tribute band. Jemaine: You booked us a gig as a Simon and Garfunkel tribute act? Bret: Murray, we don't sing other people's songs. Murray Hewitt: Oh, I know, Bret. But here's the thing. I listened to some of their songs, and they're actually better than your songs.

6/10. Recognize the hits and enjoyable but not something that gave me any pause.

Wa just another Simon and Garfunkel

This was better than the other Simon and Garfunkel albums I've listened to on this list. There were several songs I recognized and they were actually decent. Still not really my thing. 3/5

Pretty good but I prefers Paul Simon’s solo work

Pretty, pretty, pretty good

Pretty nice, couple bangers but mostly just cruisey arvo music

Back half of album is stronger The boxer, baby driver

1. Simon and Garfunkel, Bridge over troubled water 6.5/10 Would I listen to it again ? Yes Favorite song : el condor pasa HM's : Cecilia, keep the customer satisfied, why don't you write me. Least favorite : the boxer Very fun / very somber moments, impressed by the variety of sound and subject matter, loved the instrumentation start to finish especially the flute.

I had high hopes for this because it was an artist I recognized, but I was disappointed. Cecilia is obviously a banger but the rest were nothing special IMO. Made me sleepy.

Not my favourite album, but that's probably just because I'm not a massive Simon & Garfunkel fan. Feels like a really confident album by a duo at the peak of their sound, but it's just not for me. I was looking for a little more pizzazz

This is a puzzler. You've got great songwriting and signs of what was to come for Simon with Graceland. But it's a downright mess of an album to listen to in full. You play the opening track - it's a belter. One of the most emotive and beautiful songs of all time. On comes tracks two and you're then thrown into Peruvian folk with some rambling nonsense about sparrows and snails... Also got to feel a bit for old Art. Asked to do sweet fuck all in terms of artistic contribution and then the album cover is a further kick in the balls: Simon: walking in front of him and blocking out half his face. Garfunkel: dead eyes looking off into the distance as if to say "I've been overshadowed by this little prick all my life"

Okee beter dan ik dacht eigenlijk

It’s alright

Can appreciate the quality of the music, but this just doesn't stand the test of time in terms of actual joy to listen to.

Not bad.

Happy and peaceful - didnt expect to enjoy this one but was pleasant!

Some pretty good songs on this album. Never realized before how much Perfume Genius' voice sounds like Art Garfunkel!

1. Cecilia 2. Baby driver 3. Keep the customer satisfied

Some big songs on this LP. Again reminds me of sitting in the living room on the late 70's with my parents. Bridge, El Condor Pasa, Cecilia and The Boxer the obvious highlights. Was never a big fan of them, but their songwriting is top notch. Let down by some of the slower folkier stuff such as Song For The Asking. A low 4 or a high 3? See how I feel in the morning 😂.

Better than expected. A little too mellow at times but can see the influence on groups like Phish. Overall I'm glad I listened to it.

Title track bangs, sod the rest of it

I was hoping to like this one more given the level of respect music people have for Simon & Garfunkel, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. A couple above-average tracks, and I didn't dislike any of them, and I appreciate the harmonies...but the album as a whole didn't stick with me.

I've enjoyed Simon and Garfunkel in the past and some of their other hits are just great. From this album Bridge over Troubled Water and The Boxer are favorites. Other songs didn't really connect much sound or lyric wise. Cecilia is catchy but listening to the lyrics...WTF? Bye Bye Love is familiar, but it is an odd song for people to clap enthusiastically along to, that seems weird.

Not my thing. The boxer wasnt bad.

Obviously Bridge Over Troubled Water is a well made song and incredible song. The rest of the album was meh

This album is a bit mixed for me. It has some real highs and real lows. I think there is a good reason some of these so songs are so enduring and you keep hearing them now 50 years later. They are excellent and are absolutely bright spots on this album that isn't full of them.

The tracks I knew are indeed great, but the tracks I didn't know weren't so great, making this difficult to score. I feel a 3-star rating is a little on the mean side, but I had lost any interest by the time The Boxer ended and the album just kept going.

Not the common whining from 'em

not bad. a little boring but that’s to be expected with these guys

it's Simon & Garfunkel

they were cooking up something but only for half of it

i really enjoyed some parts but im nott sure if i would give in a 4, more like a 3,5 stars for me

Sorry. Just can't bother. Other than The Sound of Silence, I just can't bring myself to listen to any more of S&G.

Why Don’t You Write Me is the fartiest song I’ve ever heard. Beautiful album but doesn’t quite hit the peaks of other classics of the same ilk.

Grimon and Skreetfunkel

Cecila Boxer Baby Driver Beginning a little too slow Ending finishes well Weird choice to throw a live song in there

strange

nice album to listen to, though the songs I had heard before seemed to be the only standouts on the album. favorite tracks: Cecilia, The Boxer

Hmmm. So The Boxer is very good and The Only Living Boy In New York is outstanding. The rest of the album isn’t great and the title track is a schmaltzy ott dirge that feels genetically designed to be covered by desperate contestants in those exploitative tv talent shows.

Another artist(s) going forward in time to steal a song to go back and record it first! Who does it best (Suggs!!) I feel like I should be in some kind of medieval court dancing round a pole waving a hankie or some shit. Lie la lie, lie la lie la lie la lie Lie la lie, lie la lie la lie la lie, la la lie la lie Did this song inspire the film, 'Baby Driver'? It is a toe-tapper though! Thematically, this record feels all over the place. Yeah, it's alright, but massively overrated, I feel. 3 / 5 stars.

A few classics, a few filler tracks, very lush and expensive sounding. Not for me, really, bar the outstanding title track, but very pleasant and nice

Surprising classic

Kolmosta.. hyviä biisejä löytyy useempi.. en ymmärrä mikä homma laittaa 2 live biisiä loppuun.. joko live tai ei live.... ei voi ollla siinä välissä.. vaikka kvanttifyysarit väittääkin heh heh...

Bombastic softness with a pinch of Kitsch. 2.9

I have a soft spot for Simon & Garfunkel. From this round of listening I would say Cecilia and Keep the Customer Satisfied are my faves.

There’s good stuff and it’s well produced but I was never a Simon and Garfunkel guy. They’re a little like dark ethereal(?) rock for my taste. Good songs on their own

Beautiful songs on this album. Personally not something I would listen to daily, but still good music nonetheless. Fave track(s): El Condor Pasa (If I Could), Baby Driver

2 estrellas

First two tracks were slow and I didn’t like them at first, but I relistened and liked the opener, especially with its buildup. The album picks up afterwards with Celia & Keep the Customer Satisfied. Very folky album and some nice guitar work (Baby Driver) and cute melodies (The Boxer). The mix on Bye Bye Love with the audience hurts my ears, especially into the last song. Fav tracks: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, Keep the Customer Satisfied, The Boxer, Baby Driver, Why Don’t You Write to Me Worst track: Bye Bye Love 7/10

Solid record. Gonna tell my kids this was Tenacious D.

this is some grandparents shit. and its fucking great. Title track is gorgeous, of course. I only know the hits. Are the album tracks good? Probably. ... yes. and Cecilia is great. Love the beat. One of my fave S&G tunes they love a good architect. Good for them. and a good Boxer. a Classic of course i've always thought that honking sound was annoying. like Donald Duck having a fit in the studio. Still a great song. why was i not hip to the joy bomb that is \"Baby Driver\". Was it not on my greatest hits. Have i always been a joyless funk? Only Living Boy in NY is gorgeous as well. \"Why Don't You Write Me\"-ok this one isnt my favorite. at all. Quite an enjoyable listen. These are some fine tunes.

Looks like almost no one hates on this album. Quite rare at this point on the site, I like it and I hear the great execution but found it a bit full tbh. Even then it would get a 4 if it wasn’t for the lame cultural apropiación of track 2.

Not sure why I just can't get all that into these guys.

A good solid album. lots of different genres which I was not expecting. I knew a lot more songs than I thought I would.

Not quite as interesting as some of their earlier releases to me personally. It's a little safer and happier sounding without that haunting edge that I adore. Still some solid guitarwork and vocal melodies though.

Good album. Have listen to it too much because of my parents when I was young, a kid. So I am not able to judge it with enough emotional distance. So, I think it is a gentle intimate type of music. Well made but a little too sentimental to my taste

Another day, another Paul Simon album. The Wrecking Crew is on fire and yet the older I get the more I dislike the production, especially the sound of those drums with the massive reverb. Once again it's an inconsistent album. Leading with the title track makes most of the rest feel like filler, especially the inclusion of the live Everly Brothers song. 'The Boxer' is lyrically impressive and after the recent(ish) Buffalo Tom cover of 'The Only Living Boy in New York', I have a new appreciation for it.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah, it’s rather calming and endearing Favourite song: Track 3 - Cecilia

Surprised at how much I recognised from this without knowing it was them. There’s a couple of tracks I really didn’t like but that was offset by how much I enjoyed large parts of the rest. I’d never heard The Boxer until now, but what a song!

If Luke doesn't give this a 5 I will eat my hat.... The only living boy in New York is such a great song. The boxer is good too. Bridge over troubled water has its time and place. A cassette of a cover of Cecilia, by Suggs, was the first music I ever bought embarrassingly Can't say too much else interested me. It sounds more dated than 1970

5: The moustache that appear on Art if you put your thumb on Pauls face on the album cover. 3: The actual album. Didn't really speak to me. Although I can see myself listening to this on a long drive through beautiful scenery.

Good lyricism but instrumentals not to my taste

It's high quality.

This is a puzzler. On the one hand, you have timeless songwriting, fantastic arrangements, beautiful orchestration and the signs of where Simon was ultimately going to get to with Graceland. But on the other, it's a downright mess of an album, with seemingly no thought to the flow of the songs. Why open with the title track?! You're heart and soul don't have time to process and recover from having been exposed to one of the most emotive and beautiful songs of all time before you're then thrown into some Peruvian folk rambling nonsense about sparrows and snails. Also gotta feel for old Art. Asked to do sweet fuck all in terms of artistic contribution and then the album cover just rubs further salt into the wound: Simon, seemingly obliviously to his presence behind, walks in front of him. Garfunkel's eyes look into yours and it feels like he's saying "I've been undermined and overshadowed by this little prick since childhood"

Great tunes throughout, arrangements too folky for me.

Beautiful and boring in equal measures. Also ruined the name Cecilia for the Cecilia's out there

Loads of great memories flooding back. Brilliant songwriting and some huge tracks.

Great little album

Not my thing but not bad

Several of the songs are well known. While it is folk music, Simon & Garfunkel do it in a way that isn't awful. I probably wouldn't listen to the entire album again, but I would listen to certain songs again.

Good but not really my style. I don’t think I’ll listen to it again unless someone else plays it.

Enjoyable, recognizable, gotta be in there right mood

So here's the deal: I really only know Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits. And I think that colored my view of this album. Because going into this, I was expecting something on that level. However, I found this album to contain a lot of basic filler folk songs that were okay and listenable, but not spectacular or up to the level of their greatest hits that were groundbreaking in the folk genre. But of course, the album does have some of their BIGGEST big hits such as Bridge, Cecilia, and The Boxer. So how does one review something they perceive as basic overall, yet has some of the band's best individual songs, and arguably some of the best songs of all time? Well, I don't know. But I will say that this album does have some fantastic harmonies and melodies, even among the filler songs, despite the fact that this duo was on the brink of a breakup. The album has a lot of world music sounds that work perfectly under the folk umbrella, and lends a quality to some of the songs that make them almost "renaissance" folk in nature. It is also easy to see that this was somewhat of a playground for these sounds for Simon, as much of his later work would be dedicated to world music. However, it also foretold what would be his tendency to take world music without appropriate credits, as was the case with the (albeit, beautiful) track, "El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)". Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer both are beautiful songs that build moment over moment until, by the end, they swell into even more beautiful music and unbelievable vocals, both showcasing Simon & Garfunkel's talent at its peak. These songs leave goosebumps EVERY time. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright was pretty boring, if I'm being honest, but I can appreciate any song that is a tribute to my favorite architect.

-The end of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is cool with like the orchestral swells but like they are all faded which is weird to me. I feel like I would have preferred it coming to a more normal crescendo but I'm probably stupid -Nice drum intro in "Cecilia" -I like the explodey drums in "The Boxer" -"Baby Driver" has some catchiness -Just barely edges up to 3 stars

Bridge Over Troubled Water, I thought it was a decent folk album. Although at times it was a bit lacklustre but then there were times that it pulled you in and lifted you up a bit. Best: Cecilia Worst: Bye Bye Love (Live)

Too mellow

A classic - nostalgic

[First note]Well, at first I did not like this album, thought this is too soft for me. But the powerful vocals and instrumentals got me hooked.

Great!

This album deserves significant recognition and accolades for the title track alone. It also has some other good tracks on it. I don't love all the songs, but they all fit the album's feel and what they seem to be going for. They are ridiculously talented as writers, composers, and performers. Just incredible.

Standard folk… with some famous songs!

Not the best, patiko cecilia nes negidrejau originalo niekada

Garfunkel may be a good singer, but these songs are nothing special. Most are either simple guitar or piano melodies or your average folk-rock-something tunes.

What can I say that I didn't on the last S&G album. They are good guys but a little too folksy for my playlists. Fun to listen in the background especially hearing The Boxer from Mumford and Sons (who I think probably did it better). And did Baby Driver make it's way into the movie? Look, S&G are no different than Penn and Teller, or any other duo that you don't know who is who but you do know who they are, the tall einstein one and the short monty python one. Love the album cover too as it adds to that mystery.

The title track is part of the modern canon, but there's so many versions they all merge together - not sure I've ever heard the album version before; it's definitely WAY overproduced and quite weak compared to more pared down covers. Discovered a DJ Shadow sample on El Condor Pasa too! Hiding in plain sight. I enjoyed this in the main but not something I'd ever choose to listen to

Interesting and beautiful. I prefer some of their other hits, but glad to listen to this

Me sorprendió.

It’s well known Paul Simon picks album tracks with Mad Libs - There’s no other way to get a bossa nova song about Frank Lloyd Wright. Anyways, love the hits could take or leave the rest.

Will I go to hell if I say I thought this was overrated and boring? I ask this because I feel like I am stuck at a Christian youth camp in the late 80s whenever I have to hear the title track

My least favorite S&G...

Ahh the harmonies. The Boxer and Cecilia are super strong songs. Still feels a little too earnest, but good stuff

Overall not bad. Has some of my least (Bridge Over Troubled Water) and most (Baby Driver) favorite S&G tunes.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is just fantastic. Dramatic and epic. Their signature vocal harmonies are very nice. Some of the songs are a little goofy but enjoyable still. Lost me in the middle with some snoozers.

I'd got it in my head that that was a Phil Spector production and was always put off by how reverb soaked the title track was. Turns out Simon just wanted to sound like this. Listening to it through, I realize that I like a load of this album, just none of the Spector-inspired, echo chamber stuff. Still, it's no Bookends, but it's got great music on it. This is definitely in 3.5 territory, but I'll bump it down based on me probably not coming back to it any time soon.

Melhor música: The Boxer

Too indie for me. No constrast, too calm.

There are some cracking tunes on this album. Bridge Over Troubled Water is not one of them. Do yourself a favour and skip the first track. Promise it gets better.

Not bad, very relaxing, good lyrics

I like biting little tits. They break off in my mouth easily and are very crunchy. This record reminds me on biting little tits.

Nice folk sound, I like it so far. Not too distracting, was able to work with it on.

Oh yes, a family favourite. The title track cuts deep every time, hard not to feel and sing along. Also love El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, The Boxer, and The Only Living Boy In New York. How can these all be from the same album!?

So far so good! I like Simon and Garfunkel so I’m excited to listen to the whole thing while cleaning. Okay cleaned and listened to the album! Two bangerz and the rest were pleasant but not really standing out, overall pretty good!

Can't get past first song

Another mellow winner

Well, it has a few drop dead classics on it (title track, The Boxer, Cecilia), but is it generally just well-produced filler? Not so deep as it seems? It's not a surprise that it sold 25 bazillion copies, 'cause there's not much here to offend. great melodies, terrific harmonies, fantastically produced album. Glad I listened, but I feel no need to own.

Quite a nice record. Lots of fun songs and good songwriting. 6/10

I don't know what else to say other than it was fine. Feels like an album you need to be in a specific mood for and I couldn't meet it there.

'The Only Living Boy in New York' might be the standout track for me on an album that is almost the perfect definition of pleasant background music, so much so that I hadn't realised it had finished until a song on the artist radio got my attention. Unlikely to deliberately put on again but absolutely wouldn't switch off if it was playing.

Very nice, smooth, lovely melodies and beautiful singing, but doesn't really get me in the feels.

I’ve never been a fan of S&G but glad I was “forced” to listen to a whole album. Overall, not too bad. Started off too slow. I still probably won’t be going back to S&G anytime soon. Still, not too bad of an album.

It was ok.

A good enjoyable listen, very unique I think

Weirdly I got this album and Bookends back to back, forcing a comparison between two albums by the same artist. I rank them - and Graceland, the other Paul Simon album that's been generated so far - about the same. I like Paul Simon as a songwriter quite a bit, but to me he never cracks the ceiling into greatness. All of these albums hover around 3.75 for me, with Graceland probably being the best overall, but I do like the echoey, doomy drums on the title track of this album and The Boxer. They always felt weirdly industrial, an odd backdrop for folksy 60s music, almost like a precursor for some of Swans' 90s albums like White Light From the Mouth of Infinity or The Great Annihilator. That's a pretty left field association to make, and the average Simon and Garfunkel fan isn't probably going to find much tonal similarity to latch onto the majestic but joyless music of Swans, but these are my observations.

Great song writing but have never enjoyed their delivery

Appealing at the time, but it's lost much of its lustre through overplaying, over the last 50-odd years

Iconic, but not really what I’m into, I started to get it though after a full listen through

Sorry Art - still prefer Simon on his own.

On paper I hate this, and most of it does indeed suck-diddly-uck flanders, but I found myself liking bits of it. The Boxer is an undeniably good song, same with the title track. The rest of it ranged from boring to passable. 2.5/5.

top notch hangover cure

Good stuff. Some classics

Pleasantly surprised, really did like this album. The chemistry between Simon & Garfunkel is beautiful to listen to. - @CJEdwardsx Loved the opening 4 tracks but thought the middle and end of the album were a step down in quality, also the over reliance on the guitar made a few songs one dimensional but a good album nonetheless. - Ali

Cecelia is a song I know but never known the name of, which is always fun to come across

So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright". 6/10

Nice enough, but certainly didn't love it. In fact, there were a few tracks I didn't really like at all (El Condor Pasa, for one). It feels like they really nailed it with Bookends, but went too far with the production on this record and it just ends up a bit of a mess at times.

Little odd, not my kind of music.

There were some hits on this album, but overall it was just okay.

This album is tough to judge. It has some very good tracks and some that don't do anything for me - and I'm not sure the ones I like are the ones that are critically acclaimed. Definitely not my favorite Simon & Garfunkel, but still worth a listen.

Hadn’t listened to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel before this except for a few hit singles. I didn’t think I would enjoy this too much for some reason, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was!

Some brilliant songs, some that I didn't like at all.

Some songs I really like and appreciate peppered with some songs I really detest - just not my general cup of tea at all

I wonder where belle and Sebastian got their sound from? Oh yeah this. Weak streak lately.

Pretty quiet, but enough interesting rhythms to make it okay. Also, a couple of familiar/pleasant songs. 3/5.

Not bad, some solid tunes, but lacking some umph

Cecilia

Nooit helemaal gedraaid, leuk plaatje wel.

Tof album.

Some of my favorite songs of all time. I don't love the entire album though.

Good old ones

Songs: Keep the Customer Satisfied, The boxer, Baby Driver

Never have really loved Simon & Garfunkel. Can appreciate their hits every once in a while. "Baby Driver" was the most enjoyable track for me this time around, for whatever reason.

Is a classic but not totally my jam. Holly says, too country for her. Favorite song was If I could.

doesnt really hit for me- but still a classic

I get why people like S&G, but most of the songs are boring to me. Bridge Over Troubled Water is a prime example, lots of people like it but I'd rather listen to something like "The Boxer". There are a few Simon & Garfunkel songs that I really like, but there are a lot on this album I don't care for at all. Nothing is bad here, but personally listening enjoyment is a 3.

A lovely album that hits its stride moreso on the uptempo tracks than the broodier ballads. Whether sparse or wall-to-wall in production, the foot-stompers like "Cecilia" have an undeniable genuineness and joy that's hard to find nowadays

Decent mellow singer-songwriter album.

That wasnt too bad

All of their songs have this underlying melancholia, and I do love some melancholy. Quite a lovely listen, nice and relaxing, familiar sounding, safe and comfortable.

Lots of classic hits. Mellow album that's safe for an open office environment

Better than I thought it would be but didn't stand out that much

Some classic songs

Relaxing listen

Nothing really stood out but it was fine background noise while driving I guess.

Too slow and soft

for such a famous duo and album, you wouldn't think it would be so fuuuuucking boring. even when trying to look at other albums from that period, to me this does not hold up well to other artists.

Seventies folk, rock whimsy. Paul Simon's move into a more ethnomusically influenced and internationally explorative soundbase was a decision that forged him as a seminal musical voice of his generation. This album - whilst seminal for many, lacks the capacity to capture my attention.

Meh. Lacks some certain spice

Not the album I remember. A collection of mostly forgettable songs. Two songs even feature that baritone harmonica from Green Acres. I can’t in good conscience give this more than a 2.

I ont even remember this one tbh

Saccharine, legendary, egregious.

Not my style, but a couple decent songs.

I'm sure these are very talented and I can see why people would enjoy this but to me it sounds like music that would be played at a funeral and that's just not what I want to be listening to

no me gustó

I don’t get it at all. Nothing special vocally, lyrically, instrumentally.

Just not my cup of tea. Melodic, but just too slow. Good vocals, but almost sounds depressing a lot of songs.

While some songs have the nuance of creative ideas, the overall mood of this album is just too calm and safe. If you have a heart of glass, this album can help you cure. For me personally, I didn't get any kick out of this.

Love the mustache. Album is okay

bueno pero no mucho mi estilo

some hits but mainly misses … is that sacrilegious to say?

Two points for the nostalgia. It was and always will be pretty unbearable, with a few exceptions.

Quite nice

It was okay, but idk not really exciting for me

Not my vibe at all but appreciate

Not how I thought Simon and Garfunkel sounded tbh lol

This is my first time listening to S&G intentionally. I've avoided them for many years due to the only song of there's that anyone ever plays being sad and over played. The album as a whole is interesting. I wasn't prepared for the range of sounds. Since all I knew was 'Sounds of Silence', it felt like a nice reprieve to hear something else from them. Favorite Track: Keep the Customer Satisfied
