Reviews (page 9 of 13)

This is very well recorded and the players are all great - there are some FANTASTIC songs on here but the title track is a bit soppy for my taste. The Boxer is really remarkable, and Cecelia is still a great jam. Baby Driver, Frank Loyd Wright, Bye Bye Love, Only Living Boy in New York, all really great.

Good. Nostalgic. 4

i dont like this star system because i want to give like a nice little in betweener. really this is fantano strong 3 to liiight 4 because this album was very pleasant and also i want to stop giving 3s. very pretty i like the slow songs like its chill

My first album on the 1001 Album journey, and what a lovely album to start this adventure with. Though I had never listened to this album start to finish, most of the songs were familiar to me as this album contains, easily, 4 all-time classic songs from the '70s. One thing I am certain of is that, once I ask my children to listen to the album and rate it, they will most likely give it between 2 or 3 starts, as the sounds on this album are probably not apt to the "modern" ear.

Rockier than I expected but I guess they wouldn't be called "folk rock" if they aren't. Didn't know that The Vamps's "Cecilia" was a cover, I've got to admit they did butchered it a bit. It kinda gets draggy in the latter half but it's a banger of an album overall.

Embarrassed to admit that I kind of liked most of it.

Quelle ouverture !

bridge over troubled water el condor pasa (if i could) keep the customer satisfied the boxer the only living boy in new york

Норм

One of the first albums I bought.

A pretty remarkable work, offering depth and loveliness and simple listening pleasure, if one can overlook the gargantuan Simon ego, the tendency toward preciousness, and the clear reaching (that often is beyond their grasp) which is most often manifested the overdone arrangements (way too many smearings of cloying strings). . Quite a few of these songs suffer from overexposure (starting with the title track and the near-obnoxious "Cecilia"). "The Boxer" and "FLW" and "Only Living Boy" are all first rate.

Great record, I particularly love Cecilia. Just classic pop songwriting

Some really good songs.

Some great hits - El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, The Boxer, as well as the title track. Give it a 4 because everything else is meh.

Four unqualified classics and the rest of the record ain't bad either.

simon and fartgunkle

Having never listened to Simon & Garfunkel before, I was highly familiar with at least half of this album which is a great testament to its significance and reach. I must say though, I absolutely can't stand El Condor Pasa as it reminds me of white people dressed as Native Americans singing this song at various city fairs (in Lithuania, doing covers of popular English songs with Lithuanian lyrics that had nothing to do with the original was an interesting phenomenon of the early 00s). Otherwise, solid album

Great album

Yeah, very good

Obviously a classic. I prefer Simon's solo stuff, but this is at least a 4.5.

Fantastic sounds, relaxing, memorable songs. A couple songs I had to skip a couple because they like to do this thing of repeating a line/riff combo for 3 minutes before ending the song. Favorite Song: Bridge over troubled water

Just a beautiful album. Yes, "Bridge" is a perfect, perfect song. But I love "The Boxer" and "The Only Living Boy in New York". They just hit home.

Listened to this album last night on a traffic filled ride home from Maine. When Bridge Over Troubled Water played my coworker started to tear up a little. Unclear if that was because we had been in the car 3 hours and only traveled 30 miles or if it was because the song is that good. Simon and Garfunkel are elite songwriters, much like Bob Dylan, except they actually have a voice you’d want to listen to. Overall this album was great. Haunting and melancholic at throughout. The musical influences were varied and interesting. This album definitely has most of my favorite songs from this duo. There were some lulls in the runtime, but overall a certified classic. Strong 4 Fav songs: Bridge Over Troubled Water El Condor Pasa (If I Could) Cecilia The Boxer Baby Driver

What a great classic album

Liked el condor pasa a lot this pass. Great songs on this (cecilia, boxer, only living boy in new york). Bridge is such a huge song but I like other stuff more on this.

Album Nr. 81 Gutes Album mit kleinen Schwächen zum Ende hin. Vier Songs, welche ich auf dem Album besonders mag ist der Titelgebende Song "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "El Condor Pasa", "Cecilia" sowie "The Boxer".

It's a 'nice' album. Three particularly good tracks - Bridge Over Troubled Water - The Boxer - El Condor Pasta The Only Living boy is pretty decent too. Overall, a good 4

# Playlist track - Bridge over troubled water # Notes - I've heard the title track 1000 times since I was a kid and downloaded it on Napster or something. Still hits just the same. +3 stars. - Andean music?! Amazing. +1 - I'd love to say that I can't stand another "La la lie" from The Boxer, but I would be lying. +1 - I don't LOVE the final tracks. They're cool, but so far in the album the bar is too high. -1

Bridge Over Troubled Water is big, grand album. The title tracker opener and The Boxer will get most of the acclaim but Only Living Boy in New York is the actual star and that’s saying a lot. Beautiful folk rock with splashes of pretty much everything else. The live additions at the end seem unnecessary, though Bye Bye Love is great 8.2/10

First impressions I liked it more than I thought I would. Arrangements are cool and it’s really interesting seeing where Sufjan ripped his style from. Saying that so long Frank Lloyd wright had me laughing what was that?

Gran album, buenas canciones; algunas demasiado conocidas.

Classic!

Delightful.

Great album. I never actually listened to it before, so it was surprising how many of the songs I knew already. Highlights: El Condor Pasa

Great album.

The harmonies! So amazing. Cecilia is one of my favorite songs.

-It’s obviously good, a little more funk to it than I would imagine -good mix of uppers and downers -I think this is one of the best designed/curated albums we’ve listen to in terms of straight through line sonically

Not for me

Great songwriters. Good album.

A classic.

My mom had this record so it was one of the first non-kids records I branched out on.

A couple of the tracks reminded me of late Beatles or McCartney solo pop (Baby Driver, Keep the Customer Satisfied). Highlights for me were the big lush orchestral ones (title, New York) and The Boxer. Besides a couple of flat spots and a late tail off I thought this was a cracker.

might be a 5 bc I don't think there's a miss? (maybe Baby Driver?) - will revisit this

Not mine but very good

not their best but good

There are some truly great songs on this album. Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia and The Boxer are all superb. Big melodies, emotional weight and songwriting of the highest level. The title track in particular is timeless and powerful, while Cecilia has that infectious rhythm that makes it instantly memorable. That said, parts of the album lean a little too heavily into the folk side for my taste. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright and El Condor Pasa do not quite land for me. They feel softer and more delicate, and I find myself drifting slightly during those moments. El Condor Pasa especially with the flutes just is not my thing. When the album hits its peaks it is brilliant. I just prefer the bigger, more direct songs. Favourite song: Cecilia Least favourite song: El Condor Pasa Album artwork: An iconic and instantly recognisable cover

Chill music

(4.5) nearly perfect

So full of classics, but just one that I need to keep on rotation and it isn't the big moody title track

Classic. 3.8

Really enjoyed…easy listening

Classic

I kind of like El Condor Pasa, Cecilia, The Only Living Boy in New York, I like Baby Driver

little soft and slow

So many bangers

Great easy listen

Some great songs and some great memories, eventhough it was before my time. Love the harmonies and the epic drum in The Boxer. Cecilia makes me want to clap and dance

Solid album. I love these guys. The standouts that I hadn't heard before were "Keep the Customer Satisfied" and "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright."

Loved a lot of this album. Lots of songs were middle of the road, but there are a couple seriously good ones

powerful vocals, light rock. almost orchestral. flutes, strings, lots of instruments, wood blocks? mellow, touching, soulful, folksy. a fair amount of mournful songs.

I like The Sound of Silence.

Very strong two opening songs, classics know worldwide, and then a solid album full of traditional Simon & Garfunkel style songs. Hard to find anything against this record, other than just my personal taste doesn't really align with that style, but one cannot deny that Simon (and the other guy as well, I think), are really talented.

A Classic

Classic for a reason.

Simon and Garfunkel is such a silly name to me. But I only found out today that the Simon is actually Paul Simon. I don’t know how I never put two and two together, but here we are. I was fully ready to enjoy this. I like folk music. I had an idea in my head of what this would sound like, and I figured it would probably a solid experience. But these songs are really something else. Even if in the beginning I wasn’t super blown away by a track, by the end nearly all of them had won me over. I wasn’t ready for how ahead of its time and groundbreaking this sounds. But it all makes sense considering Paul Simon’s ambitions when it came to working in the studio. This album really says a lot about him, and knowing it was written pretty much entirely by him makes you realize how genius he really is. There is just so much beauty and so much orchestration at work here. These songs are calm and almost dreary with how serene they are. But they are also cheerful and leave me feeling good about the world. And some of these songs have such gorgeous moments. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright specifically cut deep for me. There is just one particular moment where their producer Roy Halee yells, “So long already, Artie”. And knowing that this was their last album, and the tensions that were between them makes that song stand out so much to me. Paul and Art harmonize so perfectly, and this album just feels really special. It comes off as way more than just a folk pop album. Rating: 8/10

I forgot how good this album was. Cecilia and The Boxer are two of my favorite S&G songs. The title song always seemed to me to be a bit over done but overall a great album.

Big fan. Recognized some songs. Would listen to multiple songs 4

Really strong folk pop album. The harmonies are so clean and chill, the songs are great. I found that I enjoyed this more on a headphone listen, there are a lot of intricate details in the music that I didn’t pick up prior. Didn’t love the entire album, I feel like Simon just had to slip in a weird one with Keep the Customer Satisfied, I didn’t care for that track. They’re a great duo though and this is a great album. 4 stars

Listened to it 4x without noticing. Solid album albeit a little one note at times.

Fun to hear the stuff i haven't heard a lot

All the songs I know are great. The songs I didn't know...I likely will never listen to again.

Album no. 6/1001 Great, but not as quite good as the other Simon & Garfunkel album. Bridge over troubled water, rather be a sparrow than a snail... third/fourth(?) song more punchy, liked The Only Living Boy in New York towards the end more.

not my favorite. mais bon The Boxer reste un instant classic. 8/10

Always love this album with probably my favourite S&G song the Boxer

1/22/24. Great album, these two keep you entertained throughout each track, with some creative writing and song structures. I understand why they were so popular back in the day.

The highs are extremely high. The lows are meh, because Paul Simon can sometimes be a lazy lyricist. The production is overwrought but that's okay.

Minä pidän tästä levystä. On mukavasti toimintaa, ei pelkkää S&G:n perushymistelyä jossa on ärsyttävän ironishymyinen pohjavire. Nimikkobiisi tietenkin koskettava, vaikka onkin imelä.

Great album overall and heard it several times. I love the Singles and I'm so glad these 2 ended with their best selling album. Well deserved accolades.

Not normally my style, but enjoyed it a good deal

I thought I would have heard all of this music before but a lot of it was new to me. It was a little depressing at times, but also quite beautiful. It made me think of a time that is now lost, and a lot of nostalgia for a world before electronics took over.

Great stories, melodies, voices.

Very enjoyable, i knew 80% of the songs but not the whole album. You can pick the year “1970” pretty easily but that’s not necessarily a bad feature for these beautiful pieces of music. “…there were times i took some solace there.”

Iconic

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Admittedly this has 2 all-time greats w/ Bridge Over Troubled Water and Cecilia and a few other great songs...there are just too many so-so tracks otherwise to make it a true classic. I prefer my Simon and Garfunkel in greatest hits form.

This is a perfect album to start this journey with, I'm already familiar with Simon and Garfunkel as my parents are both fans of them. Also it's a pretty easy listen, this wasn't in a drastically out there genre for me, and I feel like anyone could listen through this thing with not much difficulty. Of course I knew the song bridge over troubled water, the boxer I've heard quite a few times and my dad knows the entire story behind it. I really like the song baby driver, I didn't know about that one before but I had a moment of being like "ohh that's why Edgar Wright named his movie that" Overall this is still a great album. I'll have to talk to my mom at some point about the time she had to research and listen to this album and interpret it for some kind of course she was taking.

Bridge over troubled water: 10 El Condor Pasa: 5 Cecilia: 8 Keep the Customer Satisfied: 7.5 So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright: 5 The Boxer: 7 Baby Driver: 7.5 The Only Living Boy in New York: 7 Why Don’t You Write Me: 7 Bye Bye Love: 7 Songs for the asking: 5

This album was really great, a lot of slower and sad sound music so not something I'd listen to on a daily, but when you're feeling down or just want that kind of peaceful vibe this is a great album, I can see why it's one of the best selling albums of all time

Great album

What a classic to start with. I remember the cassette version on my old TEAC tape deck on my crappy 3-way hifi speakers, borrowed from the local library. Only S&G could get away with El Condor Pasa right after BoTW...

I love Simon and Garfunkel, but I listen to songs, not albums. So to my surprise it turned out that there are a few songs on this album that I don’t know. Keep the Customer Satisfied and Why Don’t You Write Me are new to me, and I think they aren’t among their stronger tracks. But the album also includes my favorite S&G song, The Only Living Boy in New York. So on balance I’d say this isn’t their best album but it’s still good. Some of the songs sound more like they’re trending toward Simon’s solo career, and for all that I love S&G I’m not particularly a fan of Paul Simon on his own.

It’s hard to find any fault on a Simon & Garfunkel album. So many classics on this one, but Cecilia and El Condor Pasa are my favorites!

It’s simple but really nice to listen to. Unlike some of their contemporaries, they also don’t blow out everything else with a ludicrous amount of harmonica, so in my eyes, that is a solid upgrade.

Simply a classic.

Many all time classics

Just great collection of songs. Cecilia rules.

Contains some masterpieces, and I see why they were amazing in their time. But now, the whole indie scene is saturated with this.

Great songs on this album: 1. Cecilia 2. Keep the Customer Satisfied 3. The entire first half of the second side. Five great songs on one album is pretty strong, but I’d be fine never hearing the title track ever again. “Sail on silver girl” 🙄. Definitely an album everyone should hear.

bello, tutti grandi classici niente da dire

Love this album. Love S&G in general. So many great songs on this album.

The album has so many iconic songs it’s just not something I could pickup and listen to anytime.

5 absolute classics 5 pretty good songs 1 inexplicable live Everly Brothers cover 4.3

Pretty Chill. I like their version of Bye Bye Love I listened to this while studying so did not pay close attention

This album was surprisingly a lot more fun that I thought it would be. I originally thought it was gonna be just 2 guys with a guitar but it quickly showed me The songwriting prowess and skill that both of them have. There's quite a bit of a variety of sound here. The lyrics and stories take the stage though.

I'm not a serious listener of recorded music, i listen more for fun. But this was very well done. A snappy little folk album.

I do like their sound. I know a few songs by them. Another group the parents used to listen to 😊

Any album with a tribute song to an architect is an automatic 4+

Wonderful album, really sets the table for an very underrated strech of Paul Simon solo albums. Interesting Knutson factoid, it contains both of our favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs. Mine being Only Living Boy in New York and BKs being So Long Frank Lloyd Wright for some reason

Listened to this while playing Aeon's End: War Eternal with my partner against the starting boss. We lost hard. This album is such a classic. How can you resist making an explosion noise after all the "lai lai lais?" I am so tempted to give this a 5, but it will end up with a 4...just become it didn't move me quite as much as some of the other albums. Still...a great album for any mood. Also...the album cover always makes me think the guy in the back (Simon? Garfunkel?) has a crazy handlebar mustache kinda situation going on.

A Bridge Over Troubled Water; the song is pretty good, the album is okay. Further songs I liked; Cecilia (pretty weird lyrics ngl) and The Boxer (my fav).

A couple of truly classic songs makes this album.

so tender :')

great vibes

Great folk album. I liked it a lot

Wonderful album, Simon and Garfunkel can do no wrong.

a nice lil folk pop album with great harmonies. it was fun. i had fun listening to this.

Having studied now its immense popularity, I am quite surprised i didn't know this album nor the artists before. Nice acousticy sound focused a lot on the vocals. Generally a chill album that I wouldn't necessarily listen to otherwise because it doesn't really hit much on the first listen. But only gets better as you listen more. So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright kinda reminds me of that last ILYHB song in the second album. Enjoyed 7/10

Never heard of Simon and Garfunkel before, and I think they probably are a part of the general musical knowledge, that most should at least have some clue about. I like the album, mostly reminds me of the Beach Boys. The Boxer and So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright stuck out to me, and The Boxer felt like I've heard it somewhere before. I will relisten to it later to get more of a sound grasp on the specific musical elements.

Much better than the last S&G album. This one really was them at their best. Such good variety within the album. I thought "Keep the Customer Satisfied" was a particularly great track. And Cecilia is always a bop.

Good album. Solid songs throughout.

A nostalgic classic.4*

Didn't want to like it but was brilliant.

Classic!

Fantabulous, the boxer is one of the best songs of all time

timeless classic for a reason!

Never been a fan of the song, but the album is pretty good.

Golden oldie

Know and love this album, it's definitely high on the nostalgia for me, so I'll be curious to read how others feel about it. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because Graceland by Paul Simon is the clear winner, and I'm patiently waiting for that album to drop in here.

well they CALL me BAby DRIver Listening to this on the record player was a nice experience.

I feel weird giving this not full stars but I honestly think it’s just personal preference here, possibly a bit of a generational gap for me too on this. Bridge over troubled water will forever be timeless in my heart along with El Condor Pasa but the rest of the album I was more neutral on.

"Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel is an album that pleasantly surprised me with its diverse range of musical styles. While I'm not always a fan of folk, I was genuinely impressed by the influences that I found within this album, spanning from bossa nova to R&B. The inclusion of instruments like the xylophone, tuba, flute, and double bass adds an extra layer of richness to the music. The album has an unique sound, taking you on a journey through a variety of musical styles, proving that even within the folk genre, there's room for exploration and innovation.

Solid especially for its time! Fav track; the boxer

More Beatles influence than I remember. Really great songwriting.

It's so great to hear that not everyone in the late 60's was writing their music while high on acid. The chords in Bridge Over Troubled Water cement Paul Simon as a master songwriter, and so many songs on this one take the folk vibe in unexpected directions. Garfunkel is a real crooner, but despite his vocal acrobatics it's easy to hear why his career faltered without Simon writing the songs with him.

classic

rad, cecilia always gets stuck in my head and i can never quite get it out, but it's a really solid album absolutely worth the time

Clean and great. Almost perfect classic with a few songs that aren't sweet classics, and those are still pleasant.

Sweeties. Glimmers of future Paul. I always wonder what Garfunkel thought about all of it but I don't really care enough to go find out.

Great album, the title teack is a timeless classic reaching to the depths of human trouble and compassion. However el condor Pasa and baby driver are also great tracks. Not my favorite album but certainly a great listen nonetheless

Too folksy for me but has some really good songs.

Not bad

Pensive

Top: The Boxer (obvio), Bridge Over Troubled Water y El Condor Pasa (If I Could).

Gran Disco, muy buen rato escucharlo

Really good. Favorites: title track, the boxer, cecilia.

A culmination of everything that made them great

A phenomenal album, hits like bridge over troubled water, cecilia and the boxer are all a joy to listen to. The piano on bridge is just amazing.

had classic songs on it, though perhaps just needs some more listens for the other songs to settle in the same way.

A beautiful, powerful and hauntingly sad album. Somewhere between melancholy and hope, the album operates at the nexus of joy, sorrow, and nostalgia.

Most enjoyable album so far. Baby driver. Banger. Keep the customer satisfied. Hidden banger. 4/5

The title track is incredible!!! Most other tracks are really nice also!

Great lyricists, lovely album

I hate the song Bridge over troubled water but the album overall was excellent otherwise.

I'll start with Art. Possibly the greatest math-teacher-turned-vocalist in American history. Garfunkel is the oft-reduced half of this iconic folk rock duo and is an excellent singer with a delicate voice and a great ear for harmony. Paul Simon rivals Dylan as the best songwriter to emerge from the 60s NYC scene. Whether you want a hand-clapping sing along about a romantic interest you just can't figure out (Cecilia), a meditation on the struggles and traumas inherent to selling our labour to get by (The Boxer) or a surreptitious bossa nova-tinged farewell/tribute to Mr. Garfunkel (So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright), Paul Simon can write it all. To boot, it's snappy. If a song's not for you, it won't last long. Not Simon's best album, but a worthy and accessible entry into his life's work.

8/10 me likey

4/5. A great album but some limited songwriting, feels like Paul Simon was stretched out. The instrumentation is wonderful but some songs are too slow or too short. Frank Lloyd and El Condor Pasa are overrated. There is a tension throughout that feels off. There are some great songs and the album front to back is good, but not perfect. Still will listen again in the future and Bridge is a perfect song.

Really liked this album Cecilia and the Boxer and my favourites Don’t really like the bridge over troubled water Milk carton kids are good shout if you like this music if two dudes over guitar

Sounds of silence is a better album in my opinion, but this is probably a bit more interesting in terms of the instrumental backing

HAIKU REVIEW Art and Paul make art with perfect harmonies that soar in timeless songs

This album is carried by the strength of The Boxer and The Only Living Boy in New York in my opinion

Fucking fantastic album from the word go. Whoever produced this album deserves a kiss

Alfa, reminds me of surfs up.

I listened to this 2.5 times. Half-way through the first listen, I was so annoyed by the audio engineering that I just had to stop—this should be about the music, and not the 1970's distain for any tones under 600Hz. “I'mma fuck your ears raw—with sound.” - Every 70s Audio Engineer After recomposing myself and remembering that not EVERY 70s album is so... bright—Paranoid is so good, right?—and that there are many other redeemable attributes, I put on a good pair of headphones, turned the volume down, dug in, and braced myself for the next attack. It opens with a funeral dirge and then jumps into some high energy, catchy tunes. From there, we wallow back and forth in a wonderful manic-depressive state from smooth coffeehouse jams to energetic revelry. (And, they finally let the bass open up a little bit as Baby drives away.) First [next] impression: Okay, I'm digging most of the music, it's pleasant, emotionally moving, and it makes nice use of stereo separation. Also, yikes a lot of their long-time hits came from this album alone! Good on 'em. But, what the heck were the lyrics? I mean, they're probably important. I better listen again... Second [point five] impression: Wow yep, they said words. I love the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) layers they mixed down in these tracks, everything is crisp and clear, and dang that stereo mix creates a great atmosphere! It's a good thing I listened with headphones. I thought I'd listened the album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme before, but after a review of that tracklist, nope! This was apparently my first time* with Simon & Garfunkel. If recent history is any indication, I'll be back around soon. And my ears will, too. * Excluding compilations and best-of albums

Really good album with some great vocals and folk acoustics. Both men have brilliant voices and some really enjoyable big hitters such as “The Boxer” and the title track. Only criticism is I feel the performances do slightly dwindle on the second half of the record but not my loads. Great start. RATING: 8.0/10

A great album. The classic voices of Simon & Garfunkel over big, beautiful instrumentation along with good, memorable melodies.

Really, really good. Fav track was Cecilia.

This particular album was far too melancholy for my taste, but still artful! "Cecilia" and "Why Don't You Write Me" stand out in particular, and "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" honestly makes me feel as if I am listening to a bard in a medieval tavern.

Algunas canciones bien buenas: bridge..., Baby driver y the only living boy

Classic album. Lots of finely crafted music and you get a great live selection at the end.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is a classic for good reason, but I couldn't get into most of the rest of the album. It certainly wasn't bad, just not entirely my thing.

I like listening to these as a complete album so I can hear the different styles and methods they use.

ehhh I thnk it was alright. A good song here and there. 3.5 to generous 4

Pretty nice

beautiful! continues on from the magic that is parsley sage rosemary and thyme but doesn't feel like they're just going thru the same motions. what a fantastic partnership this is I sure hope someone doesn't sleep with someone else's wife. best tracks: bridge over troubled water, the boxer, el condor pasa

1 Cecilia 2 Bridge Over Troubled Water 3 El Condor Pasa (If I Could) 4 The Boxer 5 Song for the Asking 6 Baby Driver 7 Bye Bye Love 8 Why Don't You Write Me 9 Keep the Customer Satisfied 10 So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright 11 The Only Living Boy in New York

Great, with several dare I say important songs. The over-serious and maudlin Boxer tips some of the duo's weaknesses however. A couple of shifts to an almost country and western vibe create turbulence in the album's flow, though not unpleasantly.

The album has the best song they recorded. And others as well.

A great album filled with known songs that scream nostalgia even if you weren't young when these songs came out as everyone just absorbs some songs my osmosis and these are some of those.

Beautiful songs i really liked it. Def a album that deserves a listen.

what can I say.

A classic and a Good Time

Almost gave this a 5. Not sure if I genuinely really rate this album or my brain is still a bit broken from the time it was the only CD we had on a roadtrip

Huh... I remember hearing Cecilia somewhere. I don't remember if it was a cover or a Live Lounge or something? But this version doesn't sound entirely familiar. Didn't know it was a Simon & Garfunkel song originally. Goes to show how little I know about Simon & Garfunkel really. This is a nice and pleasant album. It does get a bit too slow and boring for me at times, though it had a few songs with a bit more fun and energy, and I especially love the punchiness and general drive that Cecilia has, it just has a motivational feel to it. Overall, this isn't really the best album in my opinion but it's definitely a good one. Favourite: Cecilia

Bridge Over Troubled Water- 4.7/5 El condor pasa- 4.2/5 Cecilia- 5/5 Keep the Customer Satisfied- 4.9/5 So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright- 4.4/5 The Boxer- 3.8/5 Baby Driver- 3.9/5 The Only Living Boy in New York- 5/5 Why Don't You Write Me- 4/5 Bye Bye Love- 3.2/5 Song for the Asking- 3.6/5 Total- 4.2/5

Some of the duo's biggest hits and not a bad song on the album. 4.5.

Best songwriting album I got so far. Wish I was around a campfire listening to it.

A staple in folk albums. So many immediately recognizable songs from Bridge, to Cecilia, the Boxer, etc. It's got its' own flair and styles and was a worthy finale of Simon and Garfunkel

I did kind of like it, but not my style. I realized I knew 3 songs off this record already!

It's enjoyable, not especially exciting but enjoyable nonetheless.

Un par de temas hermosos

Great album. A little too mellow at times…

Really exceptional album. A joy to have on and drift in and out of. I could imagine continuing to come back to this in a quiet moment to relax and to feel comforted.

Beautiful stuff

This album has an absolutely amazing and gorgeous A-Side that is nothing but excellent music and the peak of folk music. This steam continues on to the B-side with The Boxer, but as the album winds down it starts to lose a lot of its muster, and the inclusion of a live piece, while it makes sense, is really jarring with how loud the crowd is, and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth, being pretty much the finale. I could see me coming arouns to a five with this album over time, but as it stands, this is an extremely high four. I'm glad one of the Simon & Garfunkel outings on the list didn't leave me feeling disappointed, even if they are also good.

Listened Before? Y Great album. An American classic, and S&G's last. It's too bad they couldn't get along and continue, but at the same time I feel they walked away on top. This album is solid beginning to end. There are some sleepy ones here, and I don't really enjoy the up-and-down arrangement of the songs (I feel they could have put the slower songs on one side and the faster ones on another), but overall great stuff. There's even some "hidden gems" here (as much as there can be hidden gems in a classic album). Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Boxer

Helt nice

Obviously a classic. Don’t have anything meaningful to add to that except that there may be some Simon & Garfunkel album I prefer as a whole

Ridiculously good, not a 5 but certainly a 4.5, I mean it's bloody close to a 5.

The great tracks are great but too much dross for a 5

Fun folk pop

Beautiful instrumentation and lyrics. A classic for a reason.

Lots of rich production. never listened to simon and garfunkel before so it's good to be introduced

really is such a great album and a folk rock all time classic

Good-to-great album that doesn't quite reach the level of Bookends. Contains a handful of classics but also a few duds that drag it down a bit.

So many great tunes. I'm a bit of a sucker for this. At times it feels like a greatest hits.

Paul Simon and art Garfunkel knew how to make music. This is definitely their best album. It’s full of solid songs and hits that will always inspire people. The songs bend through the genres and it’s done seamlessly. Simon has always had a world view of music and been able to make it popular. Garfunkel helped make this duo one of the best ever. This is a great album but not a personal favorite so it gets dropped down a little. 8.5/10

On the face of it, this is not an album I expected to like, but there is something quite seductive about the songs. Some great song-writing craft and skilful crooning.

HERE COME DA TUBA

I knew more songs than I expected! I haven't ever been into them, but it is a good album.

a beautiful album full of cracking songs

The breakup album. This album was kind of all over the place in terms of style and sound, reminds me a little of The White Album. After getting past the first two songs, it's nearly perfect with Cecilia and The Boxer highlighting, Fav Track: The Only Living Boy in New York. "Hey, I’ve got nothing to do today but smile"

Near perfect album.

Lovely album, very soothing. Will listen again.

Classic Album, cannot go wrong. Bummer they hate each other.

very good folksy album!

classic that i've never listened to from cover to cover before. enjoyed many tracks on here, particularly the titular bridge over troubled water. by the end of the record, some tracks felt a bit samey and bland.

I've never listened to this whole album but here are a lot of good songs. Some I knew and some new ones.

Simon & Garfunky

There are some tremendously strong songs on here - I'm in two minds whether there's enough of them to justify a five star review...... I'd probably go 4.5. Also, dig hearing the intro to "El Condor Pasa" as it makes me want to revisit DJ Shadow's "Private Press"... Fave track - the title track is epic. "The Boxer" likewise...

Another classic

One of the most beautiful, heartfelt folk-pop records ever made. A powerful swansong album. The first half is marginally better, but overall a very solid album! Favorite lyrics: - Your time has come to shine. All your dreams are on their way. - Away, I'd rather sail away. Like a swan that's here and gone. A man gets tied up to the ground. He gives the world. Its saddest sound. - And I’m one step ahead of the shoeshine Two steps away from the county line Just trying to keep my customers satisfied - Goin' home. Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me. Favorite Tracks: - Bridge Over Troubled Water - El Condor Pasa (If I Could) - Keep The Customer Satisfied - The Boxer - Baby Driver - The Only Living Boy In New York 8 out of 10

An Album that I used to listen to a long time ago. Brought back some great memories, very easy listening.

"Cecilia" es suficiente para hacer de este disco un discazoooo

Great!

Damn. That’s my shit. Favourite Songs: Bridge over troubled water, !cecilia!, bye bye love. And it is really well put together. The songs that follow each other fit together but there is also this contrast between upbeat songs followed by slow songs. The only reason why it’s not getting five stars is because I don’t love all songs of the album.

This is not something I would have listened to without this list but Im glad I gave it a chance its not the worst thing but I dont know if i will give it another listen any time soon

It started out feeling like midevil minstrel music. Then it exploded with Cecelia. Definitely some highs and lows. Mostly lows. Great for a relaxing day of contemplation. Goes without saying amazing harmonies from these two

So many recognizable tracks! Instrumentation and vocals are great. The title track, Cecilia, and The Boxer are standouts for me.

A wonderful listen!

An excellent album but has a few too many bland songs for a 5. The singles are phenomenal. Bridge over troubled water is one of the most beautiful songs of all time (although I kind of prefer Cash’s cover). I do think it should have been the last song instead of the first because the rest of the album can’t live up to it.

Very good album. This is not my typical music preference, but beauty is beauty. Favorite track: Baby Driver

o melhor de simon e garfunkel. musica parada e tranquila

Simon & Garfunkel will personally hunt you down and give you Clockwork Orange-style concert if you claim you don't enjoy them.

On hieno platta! Aikamoiset viikset!!! 4/5

A worthy entry just for Bridge. Bit too folk and slow paced for personal liking. A bonus star from me because Bridge has to be respected

Some of their best work. This album is the perfect blend of Paul Simon's lyrics, Art Garfunkle's harmonizing and the amazing backing musicians from the Wrecking Crew. 4/5.

A nice one

God, those opening chords. And to think I bought the piano music thinking I could do it justice 😆 could have done an LP listen but gets terrifyingly stuck on Cecilia

Really think they should have ended with the title track instead of starting with it, though there isn't much else to complain about. Had good range with both fun, fast tracks as well as slower, more emotional ones. Didn't like the live track, never do, but was overall very enjoyable. 4/5

really an outstanding album just in general, and when you get some perspective as to who they were at that time and what new york city was like in 1970 it kind of blows your hair back. 4/5

Simon & Garfunkel hold a special place in my heart. One of my favorite songs of all time is on this album, Cecilia.

Hey! Another album I own. Cecilia and Boxer are two of my top five S&G songs. Bridge over troubled waters feels like a weird first song choice.

What’s there to say. Great album. Great music and harmonies. Just great.

Acoustic guitar heros

Not too bad for a folk duo from the 70's. Not my typical jam, but enjoyable.

I was expecting a vanilla collection of pop folk songs, but “Bridge Over Troubled Water” took me by surprise. It’s harmonies, thematic, and instrumentation moved me to the point of stoping what I was doing to focus on the songs. Definitely, Simon & Garfunkel is one of those gems gifted by the 60s culture that we need to appreciate.

Primeiro álbum que escutei da lista, me surpreendeu positivamente!

From 1970. Not familiar with this album. Know S&G but not many of their songs.

Good, classic.

Another example of musical maturity. Beyond the folk song covers and into their own stuff. Garfunkel was brilliant and Simon no less so.

Love this album.

as much as i wish it was, this album is not a 5 as there is definitely a skip or two on here, i think a few of the boppier tracks are great songs but don't fit with the album, i wish they were sadder i guess favorite tracks: Bridge over Troubled Water, El Condor Pasa, The Boxer, Song for the Asking

Pretty good note to go out on.

Folksy emotional storytelling

Stunner of an album. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" "Cecilia" "The Boxer" -> are all absolute beautiful and timeless pieces of music. I love how songs from this act / these performers never feel formulaic to me. Sometimes I'll hear one of their hits and be like "man this is so unique inside of their sound". I love it. Strong 4/5 for me

Klasse folkrock, singer/songwriter, ambitiøst, effortless

Several songs on this album (bridge, condor, boxer, ..) are nailed in my head, frequently played on radio Fryslan when I was a kid. Combined with some more up tempo tracks they make a rich and diverse record.

Such a beautiful, well crafted album, and the perfect closure for the best duo in all of music history.

Was ready to pan it but as it continued the songs kept getting better, lots I didn't know were s+g. Surprisingly decent.

Folk rock. Varios megahits. Un 4.

4.2 This album is my definition of “fine” - where genuine talent and artistry can be admired but not particularly enjoyed. I did not enjoy the cover of “Bye Bye Love” - I guess during this Art was doing Catch-22, a movie I love, and it feels like he’s checked out here. Standout Track: “Cecilia”

I liked this album, I've never listened to Simon and Garfunkel besides Sound of Silence and I am a Rock, so it was good to listen to more of their stuff. The songs were enjoyable and I was vibing with it. Favorite song: Bridge Over Troubled Water Worst song: So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright

Close to a 5. Nearly every song hits for me.

Classic tunes.

I loved this album

It’s not their (his) fault - when an album includes one of the greatest songs of all time, the rest of the tracks will sound a bit medicore in comparrsion. Keep the Customer Satisfied sounds brilliantly cheesy and upbeat, and So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright is a genuinly good break up song, but it’s impossible to argue this is the greatest album of all time, or even the best Simon and Garfunkel record. But it’s equally impossible to argue against The Boxer being one of the finest songs ever written.

Absolute classic that still holds up. Not much else to say.

Brilliant songwriting, some absolute classics on there. Bridge Over Troubled Water has been ruined by X Factor/Pop Idol auditions, but If I Could and Only Living Boy in NY are superb

I often complain about albums that sound very “samey”, where the entire album sounds like one long interminable song. However this album is not guilty of this. They mix it up with a wide variety of styles here, but most importantly it all flows cohesively. The exception may be the last song which is a live cover of Bye Bye Love that kind of sticks out but this can be forgiven. Interestingly I’m not a fan of the title song, Bridge over troubled waters, perhaps it’s been overplayed, but to me it verges on being a “weenie song” as one of my esteemed colleagues in this journey calls songs like this. I think the best track here, and maybe S&G’s best ever, is the Boxer. Overall, this is a solid album.

This reminds me of a classic southwestern UK joke about Simon & Garfunkel having engine trouble over the Somerset town of Bridgwater. It's a terrible joke. But the album is good! Too many good songs to choose from, some that I didn't even realize were performed by Simon & Garfunkel. Don't ask me for specifics. I just liked it.

Nice and easy. Descend sound. Like

A classic

Reminds me heavily of the Beatles. The general flow and sound of the songs had me feeling a certain way. Liked it a lot
