-this feels a bit like R.E.M with a punk rock twist to me, I’m surprised they didn’t get more popular. Definitely quite a few solid songs on here (Ice Cold Ice is great) but it felt a little bloated especially near the end when it felt like I was listening to the same song over and over. Not bad at all tho

-continuing my foray into British heavy metal with this one. definitely liked it more than i thought i would – it’s not a genre i had much experience with before doing this, and it honestly sounded a bit like Diet Black Sabbath to me.. that being said it had great energy and made for a very fun listen. would experience again

-my relationship with Elvis Costello’s music is complicated. it’s definitely pretty hit or miss for me but when it hits, it REALLY hits
-this particular album probably falls into the “hits” category. something about his vaguely annoying voice and kitschy country rock sound is kinda doing it for me??
-solid 3-3.5. really good for a debut album

Fela Kuti

-Fela Kuti is a somewhat challenging but also very rewarding artist to listen to imo. i absolutely adore a lot of his work (Zombie, Expensive Shit) though sometimes the long repetitive afrobeat numbers blend together for me
-this isn’t my favorite thing i’ve heard from him, but i still thought it was cool. definitely best listened to as a full album because there were a lot of similarities in the song structures

-wow this is really good. def prefer it to Bookends.. quite a few songs i recognize from my childhood, my mom is big into Simon & Garfunkel
-this is the exact type of folk rock i enjoy and would like to hear more of. keeping it at a 3.5 for now but could definitely turn into a 4 after another listen i think

-been a little bit since i listened to Suede, but this album struck me as a little more sophisticated than their debut. it’s probably an improvement, though i honestly found myself liking it less
-idk, guess it’s hard for me to get into Britpop / this particular type of glam rock as it sounds a little convoluted. don’t hate it though, solid 3

-this is a really good album. one of the most cohesive prog rock albums i’ve ever heard (this is prog rock right? right??). would definitely like to listen to it again because i feel there was a good bit i missed, and i would probably find more reasons to like it
-as of now it’s sitting at a 3.5 for me. would love to hear more from this band

-at last i am experiencing Biggie. definitely wanna relisten to this one sometime before too long
-early 90s gangster rap isn’t necessarily my thing (with the very notable exception of the Wu-Tang Clan), but he channeled something really cool here. East Coast hip hop will always be my favorite

-this is objectively a very pretty album. made me feel some serious wistful yearning
-that being said it’s not exactly the most interesting album in the world to me. sort of one note, and not all that memorable just from one listen. maybe i’m just biased against this guy somehow? idk
-but like i said. very pretty. 3 stars
